The Foreign Service ought to be dedicated to defending America’s interests and securing the safety and rights of American citizens around the world. But this is the Biden administration, and so a considerably more woke agenda takes precedence over all that. The awe-inspiringly tone-deaf U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Karen B. Decker is the U.S. envoy of wokeness to Afghanistan, demonstrating once again the twisted priorities of the rogue regime in Washington.

Ever since Biden’s handlers’ catastrophically botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, we haven’t had an embassy there, but the U.S. government does maintain a Mission to Afghanistan that is based in Doha, Qatar. It’s ostensibly dedicated to using “every diplomatic, economic, political, and assistance tool at our disposal to uphold the basic rights of all Afghans,” as well as supporting “continued humanitarian access to the country” and ensuring that “the Taliban honors its commitments.” Heading up all this is Decker, a “career member of the Senior Foreign Service” who “specializes in conflict resolution and crisis management.” But from the looks of her Twitter feed, Decker specializes more intensely in spectacularly tone-deaf woke blather that has nothing whatsoever to do with Afghanistan’s current plight or with any realistic appraisal of the global situation.

Decker recently posted a series of tweets that make it clear that while she is supposed to be America’s envoy to Afghanistan, she is really more of an ambassador of wokeism. When she began to be mocked and criticized for the tweets, she deleted them, but the damage had already been done. Decker demonstrated that she knows or cares nothing about Afghan culture and mores, and sees the country through a Western woke lens that colors all her perceptions.

On Feb. 12, she tweeted: “Abe Lincoln was born today in 1809. He did some stuff. It’s also NAACP Day – home of grassroots activism, inclusive communities, and making sure Black voices are heard. What does that look like for Afghans struggling to be heard?” The sneering dismissal of Lincoln is bad enough, but the closing question is even worse. Afghans struggling to be heard today under the Taliban regime do not and cannot engage in “grassroots activism.” There are no “inclusive communities” in Afghanistan. Those who do not like what the Taliban is doing mysteriously disappear or are forced to flee the country.

The following day, Decker tweeted: “Super Bowl LVII. 2 elite QBs who happen to be Black made history in an epic showdown. Congrats to @Chiefs for the thrilling victory! Afghans – what’s the most exciting sports match you remember? #BlackHistoryMonth” With women barred from getting an education and the weapons that the United States left behind making their way to jihad terror groups in Pakistan and India, one would think that the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires for Afghanistan would have more sense than to ask Afghans about exciting sports matches, but no such luck.

Worst of all, on Feb. 15, Decker tweeted: “Are Afghans familiar with #BlackGirlMagic and the movement it inspired? Do Afghan girls need a similar movement? What about Afghan Women? Teach me, ready to learn. #BlackHistoryMonth @Beyonce @Lizzo” Libby Emmons of the Post Millennial responded: “I think there has never been a more tone-deaf tweet.” Rep. Dan Bishop (R-N.C.) observed: “This is unfortunately not a parody account.” Ron DeSantis aide Christina Pushaw went to the heart of the matter: “How dare she talk about some kind of ~magic movement~ when little girls are being sold to old men in Afghanistan, they are worse off now after the failed foreign policy pursued by liberal ideologues like herself.” Pushaw added: “Her tweet is incoherent.” Not precisely incoherent; it was clear enough. It was just the product of a mind that is so comprehensively given over to woke Leftism that it can no longer see the world clearly.

Karen Decker is a career foreign service officer who has had a long career; she “previously served as the Director for Afghanistan Operations for the Afghan Relocation Effort (CARE) from September 2021-August 2022 and as Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul from September 2018 to September 2020. Earlier assignments in Afghanistan include two years as Senior Civilian Representative in eastern Afghanistan (2012-2014), and tours in Kandahar and Ghazni in 2006 and 2007.” After all that experience in Afghanistan, she should have some feel for what the country is really like and what its actual needs are. Instead, she serves up reflexive wokeism. Good thing the adults are back in charge and America is once again respected in the world, eh?

Silicon Valley’s growing influence over government has extended deep into the Pentagon, placing America’s national security in jeopardy.

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the ranking Republican on the chamber’s Judiciary Committee, is pressing the Pentagon to reopen its investigation into a former official whose ties to e-commerce giant Amazon raise questions about ethics behind a government contract signed while she was in the Department of Defense.

According to a report by Breitbart, Grassley has uncovered new information relevant to a closed DOD probe into Sally Donnelly, who served as the senior advisor to Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis during the Trump administration.

Donnelly was under investigation by the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DOD OIG) for her financial ties to British financier André Pienaar, receiving over $1 million of payments from him while she served in the Pentagon.

Pienaar has done business with Amazon, and Donnelly served in the administration at a time when Amazon was seeking to land a $10 million contract for an ambitious Department of Defense cloud-computing project known as Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure or JEDI.

Donnelly sold her share of SBD Advisors, an Amazon consulting firm, just prior to entering the DOD in 2017.

Donnelly, who worked as a Time magazine journalist for 20 years prior to going into the Pentagon for the first time in 2007, has been a Defense fixture since that time, having served in the Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden administrations. She currently serves as a Pentagon advisor as a member of the Defense Business Board.

At the conclusion of its investigation into the matter on April 13, 2020, the DOD OIG concluded in its final report: “We determined that Ms. Donnelly did not violate any ethical agreements and obligations regarding Office of Government Ethics financial disclosures, [and] did not give preferential treatment to Amazon officials or restrict access to Secretary Mattis for other industry leaders.”

As Breitbart notes:

After pressing the DOD OIG for the Purchase and Sale Agreement for Donnelly’s company, Grassley found that the DOD OIG only had a copy with the identity of the purchaser’s name redacted, and that the DOD OIG had argued to him that the identity of the purchaser was not relevant to their investigation. Grassley said he finally obtained an unredacted copy of the Purchase and Sale Agreement in October 2022 — long after the DOD OIG ended its investigation — which revealed that an entity named VMAP Investor, LLC (VMAP) had purchased her firm. The “AP” in VMAP are the initials of its part-owner, Andre Pienaar.

… Pienaar is not only the CEO and founder of C5 Capital — one of Donnelly’s clients — but at the time he was also dating — and later married — the Amazon Web Services executive who was then in charge of the company’s bid for the lucrative defense contract, Teresa Carlson.

“Knowledge of the entity that purchased her firm is relevant and central to the question of whether a conflict of interest existed and could have substantively affected the protocols required to wall off Sally Donnelly from potential and actual conflicts of interest while employed at DoD,” Grassley wrote to the DOD OIG.

The senator added, “Based on information collected for this investigation, the DoD OIG’s conclusion concerning Ms. Donnelly’s lack of financial connection to C5 appears to be inaccurate. Indeed, two senior C5 officials, including the founder of C5 Capital, were involved in the purchase of SBD Advisors LLC–connections that existed while Donnelly was at DoD and received payments from the sale of her company.”

Another individual involved in the creation of VMAP, per Grassley’s findings, was Vincent Mai, the chairman and CEO of the private equity firm Cranemere and an individual owner of C5 Holdings in Luxembourg.

Originally, the JEDI contract fell under investigation and was canceled. But under Biden, it was brought back to life as the Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability, or JWCC, and awarded to four companies — including Amazon — at $9 billion over five years. Google, Microsoft, and Oracle are also on board.

“The purpose of this contract is to provide the Department of Defense with enterprise-wide globally available cloud services across all security domains and classification levels, from the strategic level to the tactical edge,” the DOD said of JWCC.

Is it wise for the Pentagon to trust its cloud-computing needs — and thus, the lives of service members and the American citizens they are fighting to protect — with companies friendly to the very foreign adversaries our military is supposedly guarding against?

Google, Microsoft, and Amazon are all cozy with Communist China — the country that recently sent what many say was a spy balloon over the United States — a balloon that may have been put together with the help of American manufacturing.

If China, by means of its friends in Silicon Valley, is already being handed the reins of the Pentagon’s cloud, then any future conflict between China and the United States will be nothing more than kabuki theater. Beijing has already won.

As tensions rise between China and the United States, Beijing continues to build a parallel international world order that challenges America’s increasingly tenuous hegemony.

Among the world powers with whom the CCP is forming ever-closer ties is Iran. China is strengthening its diplomatic ties with Tehran and moving forward with plans to integrate the two nations’ economies with a 25-year cooperation program.

As reported by the Washington Free Beacon, Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi traveled to Beijing this week in what was the first visit by an Iranian head of state to China in 20 years.

During the visit, Raisi met with China’s president, Xi Jinping. The Chinese leader vowed that his country “will unswervingly maintain its friendship and cooperation with Iran and advance China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership.”

During Raisi’s trip, it is expected that China and Iran will finalize several bilateral cooperation agreements aimed at integrating the two nations’ economies to a historically unprecedented degree.

Thus far, Tehran and Beijing have signed at least 20 agreements and documents, which outline economic cooperation in the areas of intellectual property, information technology, health, and international trade.

This comes at a time when the United States, and in particular its national security establishment, is up in arms over an alleged Chinese spy balloon that managed to make its way across the continent before the Biden administration finally shot it down. Then, over the weekend, three further unidentified flying objects were shot down over the United States and Canada.

Iran has expressed interest in such spy technology, and China might oblige in teaching its ally how to build it.

Political observers believe the new agreements are bad for the United States. The partnership will certainly make it easier for Tehran and Beijing to evade the consequences of U.S. sanctions.

Behnam Ben Taleblu of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a think tank, told the Free Beacon that the China-Iran agreements “will be one of the toughest for Washington to offset in the next decade, as both rogues tighten economic and security ties.”

As the Free Beacon noted:

Iranian officials say the country’s exports to China topped $12 billion during the last 10 months and that China exported around $12.3 billion of goods into Iran.

The Chinese leader celebrated the alliance with Iran in comments during a joint appearance with Raisi. The Chinese Communist Party “supports Iran in safeguarding national sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and national dignity … and in resisting unilateralism and hegemonism,” Xi said in comments carried by Iran’s state-controlled press. “In the face of the current complex changes in the world, times, and history, China and Iran have supported each other and worked together in solidarity and cooperation.”

The United States isn’t the only country struggling to deal with China’s growing dominance on the world stage. British officials are reportedly wargaming an economic response in the event that China invades Taiwan, as Britain and the West’s manufacturing dependence on the two Asian nations means their economies would certainly be impacted by such a conflict.

British MP and former Prime Minster Liz Truss on Friday is calling on her country to be more hawkish on China, advocating for the defense of a free Taiwan and urging sanctions against Beijing if it escalates tensions with Taipei.

Among the actions Truss wants to see are the creation of an “economic NATO” and regular audits by the Western-aligned powers to lower dependence on China in major industries.

As The New American has previously reported, it isn’t just China that is forging closer relations with Tehran. Russia is also partnering closely with the Middle Eastern power and is now the largest foreign investor in Iran.

According to Iran’s deputy finance minister, Ali Fekri, Russia “had brought some $2.7 billion worth of investment to two petroleum projects in Iran’s Western province of Ilam in the past 15 months,” accounting for 45 percent of all foreign investment secured by Tehran within that time frame.

The other top foreign investors in Iran for that reporting period were China, Turkey, Afghanistan, and the United Arab Emirates.

The collaboration was punctuated by the signing in January of a free-trade memorandum between Iran and Russia’s Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) — a move anticipated to grow the relationship between the two countries.

Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of Russia’s State Duma, called the mutual trade “extremely important in the conditions of sanctions pressure on our countries.”

Praising the free-trade memorandum, Volodin asserted that Moscow and Tehran should work on improving collaboration in finance and banking and that they can achieve this, in part, by using national currencies more often in settlements.

U.S. hegemony has long rested on its economic dominance, military superiority, the reign of the dollar, and its ability to punish “disobedient” nations with crippling sanctions.

Now, all of this leverage is rapidly being challenged by a rising Russo-Sino order that is clearly playing for keeps while Washington clumsily plays catch-up.

The concerns regarding the East Palestine, Ohio, Norfolk Southern train derailment, which until recently was barely even acknowledged by the U.S. government, are growing by the hour. Many in the state and federal government have written the disaster off as not that big of a deal.

However, many residents in the area are scared out of their minds of the after-effects of the derailment, which ultimately resulted in hazardous chemicals seemingly spewing everywhere. After you watch what Republican Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance tweeted while standing in a creekbed near the derailment site, you’ll understand why residents are frightened.

All it took for the senator to go viral on Thursday afternoon was a stick and a camera.

“Visited a local creek in East Palestine today. These waterways are still very polluted. It’s time for Norfolk Southern to finish the cleanup. Check this video out:” Vance tweeted.

“Hey guys, so I’m here at Leslie Run, and there are dead worms and dead fish all throughout this water. Something I just discovered is that if you scrape the creekbed, it’s like chemical is coming out of the ground,” Vance said before demonstrating what he discovered.

“This is disgusting,” Vance continued. “And the fact that we have not cleaned up the train crash, the fact that these chemicals are still seeping in the ground is an insult to people who live in East Palestine. Do not forget these people; we’ve got to keep applying pressure; that’s how we’re going to fix this problem. Thank you.”

One little scrape in that particular spot where the senator stood in the video, which looked undisturbed otherwise, and a sheen of rainbow colors immediately appeared across the surface of the water. So, either Vance struck oil, or that creek is chock-full of whatever nastiness came from the hazmat explosion at the train derailment site.

To be fair, action to mitigate the damage to local water supplies is well underway. In the video, Vance is seen standing in front of multiple containment booms, which help to filter out chemicals. It’s not accurate to say that nothing is being done about the surrounding environment, and it’s certainly not the kind of clean-up effort that will happen overnight.

CNN noted:

Ohio EPA and state officials have done several different things to try to contain pollution from the chemical spill. Crews have put oil containment booms in waterways and aerated contaminated soil and water.

Crews have excavated and removed nearly 500 cubic yards of “vinyl chloride-impacted material” including soil, according to Kurt Kollar, the on-scene coordinator for the Ohio EPA’s Office of Emergency Response. The EPA is also blocking off ditches around the contaminated dirt so that it doesn’t contaminate more water.

Tiffany Kavalec, the chief of the Division of Surface Water at Ohio EPA, reported that testing in Leslie Run shortly after the derailment revealed that “Data from February 4, the day after the train derailment, downgradient on Leslie Run and Little Beaver Creek showed very low detection levels of contaminants and mostly from fire residual chemicals. Data from February 10 more recently showed low levels of only two contaminants: butyl acrylate and ethylhexyl acrylate. Both are volatile, organic chemicals.”

So, are the chemical sheens simply firefighting chemicals hanging around from last week? Or is it something worse? Hopefully, in the coming days, we’ll find out more as further testing is conducted.

But people are justifiably uneasy about it all, especially when it’s viewed up close. On Twitter, many weighed in on Vance’s alarming video. One of the most significant concerns is that the water supply for East Palestine could be compromised, even though authorities insist that everything is totally fine right now.

“To those saying it’s all under control in Ohio (not many, I know) watch as @JDVance1 scrapes a creek bottom with a stick, instant chemical rainbow appears. This is people’s water supply we’re talking about and chemicals have been found hundreds of miles away,” DC Draino tweeted.

Another Twitter user expressed the harsh reality that this could be a long-term issue.

“Unfortunately I fear that it will take years to fully find out the damage these chemicals did to the community,” the Twitter user wrote.

As PJ Media’s managing editor Paula Bolyard noted Tuesday of some of the takeaways of Republican Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s press conference on the disaster:

Bruce Vanderhoff, the director of the Ohio Department of Health, said the main concern at this point is drinking water, in particular, for those who have private wells. He urged both those with private wells and those on municipal water to use bottled water until more tests can be conducted. He also implored those with private wells to call the hotline so they can have their water tested at no cost. Bottled water is also being provided to residents. Vanderhoff said that women who are pregnant or breastfeeding could be especially vulnerable, in addition to infants on formula that is mixed with water.

“Make no mistake: This is still a very dangerous situation, and there are a lot of unknowns. Residents rightly fear there could be long-term health ramifications from being exposed to deadly chemicals. Only time will tell if officials on the ground have done enough to mitigate the risks,” Bolyard, an Ohio native, added.

During his visit to East Palestine on Thursday, Vance had a simple message for the Biden administration.

“I haven’t spoken to President Biden. My message to him is pretty simple. One, the Department of Transportation, your Department of Transportation, has things they can do. Stop blaming Donald Trump, a guy who hasn’t been president for three years, and use the powers of the federal government to do the things necessary to help the people in this community,” Vance said, according to Fox News.

The government’s overall tepid response to what feels like a mini-Chernobyl is beyond disturbing and only raises additional questions. The possible health risks and cancer clusters from potentially contaminated water supplies could take years — maybe more — to fully realize.

As PJ Media’s Matt Margolis reported Thursday, DeWine was notified that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has refused to provide assistance at this time.

“The DeWine Administration has been in daily contact with FEMA to discuss the need for federal support, however, FEMA continues to tell Governor DeWine that Ohio is not eligible for assistance at this time,” DeWine said in a statement. “Governor DeWine will continue working with FEMA to determine what assistance can be provided.”

It’s easy to see why people are so scared, especially when they feel they’ve been practically abandoned.

Is there no end to the corruption of America’s First Family? Hunter Biden’s laptop is certainly more salacious, but when it comes to influence-peddling, Old Joe Biden’s kid brother Jim, who is a sprightly 73, is giving his notorious nephew a run for his ill-gotten money. And in yet another indication that the people who are really running the dumpster fire known as the Biden administration are tiring of their feckless and dementia-ridden mouthpiece, it’s all coming out now.

The UK’s Daily Mail reported Tuesday that young Jim “was hired to engage in secret negotiations with the Saudi government on behalf of a US construction company because of his relationship with the then vice president, legal documents claim.” Jim got the nod for this task because, according to an affidavit, the Saudis “would not dare stiff the brother of the Vice-President who would be instrumental to the deal.” All this involved Jim’s role in a 2012 “$140 million settlement negotiation between Hill International,” the American construction firm in question, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Jim was reportedly completely up-front about his role in the negotiations, telling Thomas Sullivan, a former senior official at the U.S. Treasury Department, that Hill International hired him to conduct their negotiations with the Saudis “because of his position and relationship” with Old Joe, who was vice president at the time. According to Sullivan, Jim Biden said happily, “Of course, the name didn’t hurt,” that is, the Biden name, and Sara Biden, Jim’s wife, added that Joe and Jim “told each other everything.” Heartwarming.

This appears to be a classic case of influence-peddling. “The Saudi government owed Hill $140 million for their work building desalination plants in the Middle Eastern kingdom dating back to the 1980s.” To collect the dough, Hill reportedly hired Jim Biden “around 2011 to fix a back-door settlement for $100 million.” According to V. Thomas Lankford of Lankford & Reed, a law firm involved with the negotiations, Hill sent Jim Biden to a meeting with the Saudis: “After many delays, a meeting was finally scheduled for mid-February, 2012, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia….Hill, acting through [its CEO, Irvin] Richter, sent Jim Biden – the then sitting Vice President’s brother. Richter confided that he selected Biden because KSA [the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia] would not dare stiff the brother of the Vice-President who would be instrumental to the deal.”

Lankford added: “Mr. Biden further confirmed that Richter used Biden as a settlement intermediary in order to capitalize on the influence and orchestration of the settlement by the then Vice-President.” When Sullivan questioned Jim Biden about all in 2017, Sara Biden told him ingenuously: “He doesn’t like us talking to people.” Who doesn’t like them talking to people? The Big Guy, of course: Old Joe Biden himself.

Lankford adds that all this was taking place in an ominous atmosphere: “I didn’t ask for a further explanation since I was looking at two large men in dark suits, in a big black sedan parked on a side street looking directly into their house down the walkway I had just exited. I thought they were some type of security, probably Secret Service.” The Daily Mail notes, however, that “Joe Biden’s family were not entitled to Secret Service protection at the time, as he had ended his term as Vice President.” Lankford continues: “Sara and I walked to my car. She told me that her husband and his brother were very close and that they told each other everything. I reached inside to give her a card, and just as I did, a blue sedan, with a single male driving, pulled quickly into their driveway. She said ‘See what I mean?’”

Yeah. It’s even clearer when one recalls another news item related to Jim Biden, from back in Dec. 2019. The Knoxville News Sentinel in Tennessee reported that the FBI was “investigating the delivery — via the mail — of a terroristic threat to a McMinnville couple who are suing the brother of Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden.” A few days after “Knox News publicly revealed their claims of fraud and deception against Biden’s brother, Jim Biden, in a federal lawsuit,” the couple, Michael and Natalie Frey, received an envelope in the mail. “Inside the envelope was what appeared to be blood-stained currency from a Middle Eastern country commonly known as a haven for terror groups and a ‘torture ticket’ — a voucher for the infliction of torture.”

What has become of the Freys and their suit since then? Nothing public. That Knoxville News Sentinel story from Dec. 2019 is the most recent one mentioning them. Did a blue sedan pull into their driveway?

Investigative journalist Daniel Greenfield concludes: “James Biden has been a lot bolder in cashing in on Joe’s name and saying so. Hunter, if anything, was actually a good deal more discreet, even in the throes of his drugs and prostitution escapades leaving behind less of a trail tying in Joe than James did. And it’s James who may ultimately prove more dangerous to Joe.” Indeed. As long as those looking into all this can keep the blue sedans at bay.

Acid attacks of this kind happen all too often to women in Pakistan and Afghanistan. They are a manifestation of the culture of violence that is created by the divine sanction Islam gives to beating disobedient women (cf. Qur’an 4:34). Celebrate diversity!

“Muslim Throws Acid on Young Christian Woman in Pakistan,” Morning Star News, February 6, 2023:

LAHORE, Pakistan (Morning Star News) – A Muslim in Karachi, Pakistan on Wednesday (Feb. 1) threw acid on a 19-year-old Christian woman for refusing his pressure to enter into relationship and convert to Islam, sources said.

Sunita Masih, who lives with her sister after the death of her parents, left the house in Masoom Shah Colony, in Karachi’s Kala Pull area, to go to work that morning. After getting off a bus at Cantt station, her Muslim neighbor, Kamran Allah Bux, threw acid on her and fled, said her uncle, John Masih.

“Sunita is just 19, but now her whole life has been physically and mentally scarred by Kamran,” her uncle said. “Even if he is convicted for his crime, will Sunita be able to live a normal life again? We all know how our society treats acid attack survivors, even though they are the victims of this heinous crime.”

Sunita Masih suffered 20 percent burns in the attack.

“My eyes, face, arms, and legs started burning as soon as Kamran threw the acid on me,” she told police from her hospital bed. “The pain was so excruciating that I collapsed on the road.”

Bux had been pressuring her to enter into a relationship with him, John Masih said.

“He would try to force her to renounce her Christian faith, assuring her that he would marry her once she became a Muslim, but she refused to surrender to his illegitimate demands,” Masih said. “Sunita had informed her siblings about Kamran’s harassment, and they had repeatedly complained to his parents, urging them to stop him, but that did not work.”

The family had registered a complaint with police to stop the harassment, but they did not act on it, he said. When all efforts failed, Sunita’s brother-in-law beat Bux, which also did not deter him, John Masih said.

The family, members of a Salvation Army church, was seeking justice for Sunita Masih, whose face and other parts of her body were disfigured in the attack.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Sagheer Ahmed of the Frere Police Station said officers had registered a case against Bux for hurt by corrosive substance (Section 336-B of the Pakistan Penal Code) and had taken him into custody.

“We obtained his two-day physical remand from a court during which he confessed to the heinous crime,” Ahmed told Morning Star News. “In his statement, Kamran claimed that he had fallen in love with Sunita and had attacked her with acid in retaliation after she rejected his marriage proposal.”…

Just a few months ago, Sam Brinton was a rising star in the universe of the woke. Back on June 29, he announced, with considerable fanfare, his new role as deputy assistant secretary of the Office of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition in the U.S. Department of Energy and tweeted happily about being “one of if not the very first openly genderfluid individuals in federal government leadership.” But it all ended ignominiously less than six months later: on Dec. 12, a Department of Energy spokesbeing announced tersely: “Sam Brinton is no longer a DOE employee. By law, the Department of Energy cannot comment further on personnel matters.”

Brinton turned out to be carrying too much baggage: his firing came after he was caught purloining that baggage from airports in Minneapolis and Las Vegas. On Wednesday, he appeared in a Minnesota court on luggage theft charges, and it wasn’t exactly like facing Old Joe Biden’s sycophantic, far-Left press corps in Washington.

Brinton likes to parade around in women’s clothes, but the seriousness of the charges he faces was apparently sobering; for his court appearance on Wednesday, he left his skirts in the closet and dressed quite conservatively (for him) in a suit and black button-down shirt. The suit’s burgundy color, however, did make it an outfit more suitable for a Batman villain than for a conventional government official. Brinton, according to the UK’s Daily Mail, “could face up to five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine if found guilty.” As a cosseted member of the Leftist elite, Brinton is unlikely to be sentenced even to a fraction of that, but there is no doubt that his day in court was not the inspiring demonstration of how “diversity is our strength” that the Left would like all the public appearances of “non-binary” people to be.

Brinton was in court to face charges related to accusations that he stole a woman’s bag from the baggage claim area at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport on Sept. 16. Speculation has persisted since then that Brinton’s grab-bag style when wearing women’s clothing resulted from his practice of wearing whatever he found in the bags he carried off. It’s tough to be essentially the only disgraced official of a spectacularly disgraceful administration, and Brinton had tried to dodge having to make this humiliating public appearance. His lawyers repeatedly requested that he be allowed to appear remotely, but Judge Gina Brandt stated that “the current District Policy does not allow for remote appearances to be conducted for Felony 1st Appearances on the Property Drug Calendar.”

Once he was in court, however, Brandt took pains to make him feel comfortable, accommodating his delusions by referring to him not as “Mr. Brinton,” but as “Mx Brinton.” According to the Daily Mail, which also fed Brinton’s delusions by ridiculously (and confusingly) referring to him using plural pronouns, “Mx is a common gender-neutral title given to non-binary people who do not wish to have a gender referred to in their title.”

Reporters on the scene, however, were less deferential. Brinton was peppered with questions, all of which he ignored, as he left the courthouse and walked to a waiting limo: “Are you here for an interview with the [Minnesota Gov. Tim] Walz administration?” That was a good question, as Walz would likely love to have a “gender-fluid, non-binary” individual prominently on staff. Another impertinent scribbler asked Brinton: “Did you visit the Larry Craig restroom?” Larry Craig was the U.S. senator who, in 2007, was arrested in a restroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport for soliciting an undercover police officer for sex.

Brinton was also asked: “Do you have any comments on the train disaster in Ohio? You’re an expert in these things.” Brinton is indeed touted as an expert in nuclear waste disposal, but the material poisoning the atmosphere in Ohio is apparently not nuclear; was the reporter implying that Brinton himself was a train wreck? In any case, another asked Brinton: “Why would you want some lady’s dirty clothes?”

There’s the rub. Why indeed would Brinton have wanted to steal women’s luggage in the first place? That question gets to the heart of the problem: the very thing for which the Biden regime celebrated Brinton appears to be exactly the same thing that led him to commit acts that have gotten him charged with felony theft. That was the biggest message of his court appearance Wednesday. Whether anyone among the political and cultural elites will grasp that message, however, is an entirely different matter.

A train — including one tanker carrying hazardous material — has derailed west of Detroit in Van Buren Township, Mich.

Police claim there are no injuries and no threats to the public, though traffic has been stopped on a nearby interstate for several hours.

TRACK-O-RAMA! The train that derailed outside of Detroit is owned by Norfolk Southern, the same company that owns the train that derailed near East Palestine, Ohio, earlier this month.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy is on the scene and also claims that there are no health threats to the community. No hazardous materials leaked.

Local Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) released a statement that included;

My team and I have been in touch with Supervisor Kevin McNamara, the Van Buren Fire Department, and other local officials regarding the train derailment in Van Buren Township. We are also in touch with the relevant federal authorities, including the EPA. At this time no one is aware of the release of any hazardous materials, the car carrying hazardous material has been put upright and is being removed from the area of the other derailed cars, and EPA is dispatching a team to ensure public safety. We will continue to monitor the situation very closely and remain in touch with federal, state, and local officials, and release additional information as it becomes available.

This is the third train to derail this week and the fourth this month.

The train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio has released chemicals into the air and water. Thousands of pets and livestock have dropped dead from the fumes. More than 3,500 fish have died in local waterways.

The dangerous chemical plume is floating down the Ohio River at about one mile per hour. Experts suggest the chemicals could dissipate before getting to Cincinnati.

Pete Buttigieg, the secretary of transportation, remained mute on the Ohio catastrophe for ten days but broke his silence to — astonishingly — blame Trump.

The Left’s war on American statuary is a calculated one. The idea of pulling down statues of Washington, Jefferson, and other former national heroes is to signal to Americans, and to the entire world, that a new regime is in power, one that has radically different values. The old order has gone, and a new one is in place, and those who fail to go along with the new authorities will be punished accordingly. The best way to communicate this to distracted, low-information, busy Americans is to tear down the statues of those whom they were taught to respect and revere as heroes and to put new heroes in their place. It is happening now in the U.S. embassy in France, where Old Joe Biden’s woke ambassador has made it clear with a series of wall portraits that the revolutionaries have triumphed, and the old regime has been overthrown.

Biden’s handlers’ far-Left ambassador to France, Denise Bauer, happily announced the change in a French-language tweet on Feb. 3. Over two photos, one of her standing in 2022 before portraits of her early predecessors, and then standing in the same area in 2023, with all the portraits replaced by those of Leftist activists, Bauer wrote: “It was one of the first photos taken when I arrived in Paris. 1 year later, we decided to do it again. Proud that the entrance to our embassy now better reflects the #IncredibleDiversity of my country. A value that I wear wherever I go in France.”

According to a Tuesday report in the Washington Free Beacon, “among the portraits Bauer banished was that of Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, who served as minister to France in 1796. A portrait of Pinckney, a signer of the Constitution and general in George Washington’s Continental Army, was replaced by a photograph of transgender activist Sylvia Rivera, who claimed to have played a prominent role in the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City.” Rivera recounted proudly: “I have been given the credit for throwing the first Molotov cocktail by many historians but I always like to correct it. I threw the second one, I did not throw the first one!”

Also getting the axe in Bauer’s redecoration for the new, woke America was John Armstrong Jr., who was “minister to France from 1804 to 1810” and “was a major during the revolution who eventually became a U.S. senator and secretary of war.” Likewise deep-sixed was “Swiss-born Albert Gallatin, known as ‘America’s Swiss Founding Father,’ was minister to France as well as secretary of the Treasury and founder of New York University.” The likes of Pinckney, Armstrong, and Gallatin have an immense mark against them: they were all white males. That will never do, not for the embassy of a duly diverse and multicultural regime.

Bauer doesn’t appear to be proceeding on her own initiative. Her “preoccupation with diversity in the embassy,” says the Free Beacon, is “consistent with Biden’s directives for the executive branch. The president on his first day in office issued an executive order to all cabinet-level agencies ordering they assess their commitment to ‘racial equity’ and develop an ‘action plan’ with the objective of ‘embedding equity in the everyday business of government.’”

Denise Bauer, apparently, is nothing if not a team player. Among those with whom she has replaced all those dead white racists is Dolores Huerta, “a labor leader and former honorary chair of Democratic Socialists of America. Huerta was a frequent speaker at conferences and rallies allegedly linked to the Communist Party USA from the 1960s through the ’90s, and in the 2000s was an outspoken advocate for the release of five Cuban spies arrested while operating in the United States.”

Also now adorning the walls of our embassy in France are portraits of labor activist Cesar Chavez, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, novelist Sandra Cisneros, and baseball star Roberto Clemente.

Notice anything? That’s right: Denise Bauer has filled our embassy in France with portraits of Hispanics. Does she think she is the ambassador to Spain? Does wokeness so eschew basic reality now that she thinks it’s all the same, Spain, France, all bad old countries of Old White Europe? It’s apparently not quite as bad as all that. The State Department explained that it was a “temporary exhibition space” for National Hispanic Heritage Month. So watch for a new assortment of woke heroes to go up for every new month of the Left’s new calendar. One thing you can say about our new civil religion: it has plenty of saints.
