Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas revealed Tuesday that he is working with the social media giants to combat “misinformation,” which all too often recently has come to mean “dissent from the establishment political and media line.” What about the First Amendment? They’re working on ways to get around it.

Brad Stone, senior executive editor for Bloomberg News, asked Mayorkas if he considered “misinformation” a “part of your mandate at DHS, and how much resources are you devoting to fighting misinformation such as election falsehoods or Covid disinformation?”

Mayorkas responded: “I think that’s very much within, uh, our domain, uh, misinformation, uh, pointedly, disinformation has very serious and significant ramifications for homeland security. The integrity of our election system, the security of our election system is a prime example of that. And so, um, our office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans under Rob Silver’s leadership, CISA [Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency] under Jen Easterly’s leadership, uh, John Cohen leading, uh, the office of intelligence and analysis, uh, in an acting capacity, Samantha Winograd, a senior counselor to the Secretary and our Acting Assistant Secretary for Counterterrorism, these are individuals very much involved in their respective workforces, very much involved in addressing misinformation, disinformation, and the threats that they pose to the homeland.”

Instead of pressing Mayorkas about how these officials distinguished what was actual misinformation or disinformation from what was claimed to be by hyper-partisans, Stone lobbed Mayorkas a softball: “I, I know you’ve been doin’ this a long time. Personally, do you ever get, um, you know, or — do you ever get upset by just the ubiquity of falsehoods and misinformation — and myth —- in our public dialogue these days, and, and the ease with which they’re transported across social media and the Internet?

Speaking very slowly and deliberately, Mayorkas answered: “I, um, I do. I, I think that, uh, false narratives present a threat to our security. The propagation of false narratives is something to be condemned. Uh, we need our leaders, uh, to step up and fight against it, yeah, because the words of leaders, you know, they matter quite a bit. They can be very influential in the public discourse. You know, uh, the Department of Homeland Security, our, our work, uh, rests often at the epicenter of the country’s divide, and the country’s divide is something that has security, um, implications, and is also very saddening. You know, last week, uh, I was privileged to attend a memorial service, ahem, for Bob Dole, uh, one of our nation’s great leaders and great public servants, uh, and, um, heroes. And then — it spoke of a different time. It spoke of a time when, uh, people could disagree on policy and still work together in the service of a country that we all love. And, um, I, and so many others are working to renew that day.”

How is Mayorkas working to bring back those halcyon days of national unity and mutual respect? By restricting our First Amendment freedom of speech rights, of course. Stone asked him: “And when you talk about leaders who should be held to a higher standard, do you include, uh, Silicon Valley and other technology CEOs? Would you like to see private industry do more to combat misinformation?”

Mayorkas was reassuring: “So, um, uh, I think they’re very committed to, to doing so. I had, uh, very robust discussions, uh, with individuals. You know, the how-to-accomplish-it is something that is not easily navigated. We recognize that. Uh, the First Amendment, uh, concerns are extraordinarily important. It’s a founding principle of our country. I think they’re very dedicated to doing so. And I think the how-to and how-we-can-work-together-with-them is not so facile, and I think we’re all working, uh, through it.”

So Mayorkas is working with Big Tech on ways to circumvent the First Amendment in order to counter what they consider to be “misinformation.” They have to circumvent the First Amendment to do this because the First Amendment has no provision for gagging those who spread “misinformation.” It assumes that misinformation will be defeated by the truth on an even playing field and the idea of self-appointed guardians of the truth censoring what they consider to be falsehood is exactly what the Founding Fathers wanted to avoid articulating the First Amendment in the first place.

Mayorkas’ words were reminiscent of then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s notorious remarks at a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in 2011. Clinton claimed that “in the United States, I will admit, there are people who still feel vulnerable or marginalized as a result of their religious beliefs. And we have seen how the incendiary actions of just a very few people, a handful in a country of nearly 300 million, can create wide ripples of intolerance.” She blamed this on the freedom of speech: “We also understand that, for 235 years, freedom of expression has been a universal right at the core of our democracy.” But she had a solution: “So we are focused on promoting interfaith education and collaboration, enforcing anti-discrimination laws, protecting the rights of all people to worship as they choose, and to use some old-fashioned techniques of peer pressure and shaming so that people don’t feel that they have the support to do what we abhor.”

Clinton recommended using “peer pressure and shaming” to keep people from saying what she didn’t want them to say, and given the Left’s promiscuous use of charges of “racism” and “bigotry” against even the mildest dissenting word, it’s hard not to conclude that her recommendation has been heeded. And now Alejandro Mayorkas is working with the social media behemoths to neutralize the freedom of speech in other ways. It is striking how often Democrat officials turn out to be enemies of this most fundamental and important of freedoms, while establishment Republicans stand by indifferent as they work to destroy it.

Heidi Beirich is a hardcore Leftist activist who formerly led the SPLC’s “Intelligence Project.” Beirich is now working with another “social justice” activist group, the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism. She insists contra-factually that “the argument for curbing immigration is just a ‘white nationalist’ argument that America should be for white people, and everybody else is somehow subpar and doesn’t belong.”

Beirich took a run at me in the Toronto Star, calling me “anti-Muslim” for writing for Jihad Watch after I was fired by the Trudeau Liberal government for criticizing Islam. She was quoted as saying that “Douglass-Williams has been ‘on the anti-Muslim circuit for some time’ and has written hundreds of articles for Jihad Watch since 2012.” She falsely asserts that Jihad Watch is “anti-Muslim.” Jihad Watch is about the stealth and violent jihad; is she then insinuating that all Muslims are jihadists?

She and a colleague landed the Southern Poverty Law Center in a lawsuit for falsely designating the Center for Immigration Studies as a “hate group.” And after Robert Spencer was blacklisted by Mastercard, Beirich said: “We want PayPal, we want Mastercard, we want all of them to stop servicing hate groups.” And she herself is the self-appointed arbiter of what constitutes a hate group.

In 2017, Judicial Watch warned that evidence had emerged that Middle Eastern jihadists were entering the United States across the Mexican border. It is a common-sense observation that jihadists on a mission of conquest would exploit open borders. But Leftists, especially those who materially gain from the business of open-door migration, continue to defame and libel genuinely concerned citizens. Should anyone oppose the obvious dangers of open-door immigration policies, they are called “racists,” “Islamophobes,” “anti-Muslim,” and “white supremacists.”

Meanwhile, jihad training camps have been operating “in America’s back yard,” and with the opportunity that reckless open-door immigration policies offer, and the fact that martyrdom is the jihadist’s ultimate calling, America is in trouble. And drug traffickers and other unvetted criminals are also all welcome.

The argument for curbing immigration “is just a white nationalist argument that America should be for white people, and everybody else is somehow subpar and doesn’t belong,” said Heidi Beirich, who named her activist group, The Global Project Against Hate and Extremism.

The GOP has “benefited enormously from [establishment] media outlets actively normalizing anti-immigrant hysteria,” according to an op-ed published by the Los Angeles Times.

“This movement has very sinister origins, right? Racist eugenicist beliefs that have shaped the ideology,” claimed Lola Ibrahim, the director of the Migrant, Immigrant & Refugee Rights Alliance. She spoke at a December 9 online meeting of progressives seeking to minimize media coverage of Americans’ views about immigration.

The mainstream groups include the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), NumbersUSA, the Federation for American Immigration Reform, and the Immigration Reform Law Institute.

“The point is to intimidate people and prevent them from articulating these mainstream policy views,” responded CIS director Mark Krikorian. He continued:

If they can shut us up, they have a good chance of preventing these views from being articulated by politicians and writers. [If] so, they would’t have political effect because even if people agree with you, if no one is talking about those issues and no politicians are running on them, then people’s opinions and views can’t translate into policy.

It is somewhat successful but not nearly as much as they want. Obviously, concerns about excessive immigration are breaking out of the box that these groups would like to confine them to. It’s not just [President Donald] Trump — Trump was more a manifestation of that happening rather than the cause of it.

Multiple polls show the public is increasingly opposed to the federal government’s economic policy of cheap labor migration. That policy cuts Americans’ wages, raises their housing costs, and diverts politicians from national problems of productivity, alienation, health, education, research and prosperity.

For example, the left-wing Equis Research group reported December 13 that almost 51 percent of Latinos want to rollback asylum migration, and 45 percent want to reduce legal immigration:

A shocking propaganda video by the New Jersey Health Department features a child writing to Santa asking for the coronavirus vaccine in lieu of toys. This comes as Dr. Robert Malone, the highly respected inventor of mRNA vaccine technology, released a powerful statement warning parents about vaccinating children.

Dr. Robert Malone points out that “15,000 physicians and medical scientists around the world signed a declaration publicly declaring that healthy children should NOT be vaccinated for COVID-19.” The scientific evidence supporting their declaration is listed here.

The New Jersey Health Department clip, titled “Best Gift – Child” has received over 800k views on YouTube. At the time of this writing, the short video has received only “nine” likes. YouTube is now banning viewers from seeing the number of “dislikes”, but it is not a stretch to think people are not taking kindly to the taxpayer-funded propaganda. Comments for the video are naturally turned off.

“Dear Santa. I don’t want games. I don’t want toys,” an angelic little boy says in the short video. “Just get me the COVID vaccine,” he continues. A pleasant-sounding woman then narrates: “This holiday season, there’s no better gift than peace of mind. Get vaccinated today. Visit COVID-19 dot NJ dot gov.”

The video was posted on November 30, 2021, but has been shared since then and has aired on local television. “Did the covid vaccine make your wish list for Santa this year?” A tweet dated December 9, 2021, from the official New Jersey Department of Health account asks. “There’s no better gift than peace of mind,” they continue.

Yet another vaccine coercion video is currently airing in New York City. The video features teenagers playing sports and spending time with friends. “Your teen will miss out” if s/he does not get vaccinated, the narrator warns:

But even as state Health Departments push children to get vaccinated, knowledgeable healthcare professionals and scientists are begging parents to take a breath. In a statement, Dr. Malone implored parents to consider the potential “irreversible” consequences of vaccinating healthy children with the coronavirus injection.

Dr. Malone explains that if parents opt to give their children the Covid vaccine, “a viral gene will be injected into your children’s cells.” “This gene forces your child’s body to make toxic spike proteins,” he says, which “often cause permanent damage in children’s critical organs” and can “trigger fundamental changes to their immune system.” Dr. Malone continues to say that damage done would be “irreparable”. Further, he warns that “this novel technology has not been adequately tested.”

Illinois Ends Parental Notification of Abortion for Minors

In Illinois, a female minor must get a parent’s permission to have a tooth pulled. She must get her parents' OK to get plastic surgery. She will need her parent’s permission to get a tonsillectomy, should that become necessary.

But, starting June 1, 2022, a minor female in Illinois will no longer need her parent’s permission to get an abortion.

Abortion advocates are cheering this new law, claiming it “expands health care options” for kids. If it’s only a “health care option,” though, why leave parents out of the loop?

Daily Herald:

“Today’s bill signing by the governor strips parents of their basic right to know what is happening in their minor daughter’s life,” state Rep. Avery Bourne, a Morrisonville Republican, said in a statement. “Even more concerning, removing this common sense protection will increase the likelihood of sexual abuse, exploitation and allow the trafficking of minor girls to continue unchecked.”

But those who supported the repeal of parental notification argued this provides access to medical care to the most vulnerable minors.

“Access to sexual and reproductive health care starting at a young age is crucial,” state Sen. Melinda Bush, a Grayslake Democrat, said in a statement. “By providing resources and education, we are giving young girls vital information and bodily autonomy.”

Everyone knows there’s a lot more at stake here than simple “reproductive health care.” Since a young girl is destroying another human being rather than reproducing when she gets an abortion, calling it “reproductive health care” is absurdly off base.

But the rhetoric used by abortion advocates is very important. It’s meant to assuage the conscience of people who might be troubled by killing a baby. Calling abortion an expansion of reproductive health care sure sounds great, but it bears no relationship to the reality of what’s actually happening.

Governor J.B. Pritzker touted Illinois’ progressiveness in empowering children to kill their babies without telling mom and dad.

“With reproductive rights under attack across the nation, Illinois is once again establishing itself as a leader in ensuring access to healthcare services,” said Pritzker. “This repeal was essential, because it was the most vulnerable pregnant minors who were punished by this law: victims of rape and physical abuse in unsafe homes. I thank Representative Anna Moeller, Senator Elgie Sims and the lawmakers and advocates who have fiercely fought to repeal this law and keep vulnerable young people safe. I’m proud that Illinois continues to be a national leader in protecting reproductive rights.”

Pritzker didn’t mention all the exceptions that were already in the 1995 law, allowing a young girl to receive an abortion without parental notification.

A 1995 law required doctors to notify a pregnant minor’s parent within 48 hours before an abortion procedure, but it did not take effect until 2013 due to litigation. An exception could be made if the minor were a victim of abuse or neglect by an adult family member, if the minor were emancipated or married, if a medical provider determined there was a medical emergency, or if an adult family member waived the notice in writing. A judge could also waive the requirement.

Is there any judge in the United States who wouldn’t waive the parental notification requirement if a father was responsible for his daughter’s pregnancy? But why not tell the parents who are loving, responsible, and non-abusive that their daughter is to undergo an invasive medical procedure? Why should they be kept in the dark?

These laws are anti-family and anti-woman. They are not about protecting little girls from their abusers or rapists. They are about abortion. And if Pritzker were honest, he would have said so.

‘The Old Normal Is Not Going to Return’: Federal Appeals Court Rules Biden Vaccine Mandate Can Continue

A federal appeals court ruled on Friday that the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate for private companies with 100 or more employees can continue. The mandate, issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) through an Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS), is set to go into effect on Jan. 4, 2022.

On Nov. 12, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that OSHA could “take no steps to implement or enforce the Mandate until further court order,” noting that the mandate exposes the petitioners “to severe financial risk” and “threatens to decimate their workforces.”

Obama-appointed Judge Jane Branstetter Stranch, writing for the majority on Friday’s ruling, disagreed, opining that the ETS is necessary because “the ‘old normal’ is not going to return.”

Stranch wrote that the ETS is “not an enormous expansion” of OSHA’s regulatory authority. “Longstanding precedent addressing the plain language of the Act, OSHA’s interpretations of the statute, and examples of direct Congressional authorization following the enactment of the OSHA Act all show that OSHA’s authority includes protection against infectious diseases that present a significant risk in the workplace, without regard to exposure to that same hazard in some form outside the workplace,” she said.

The 57-page ruling dismissed the plaintiffs’ claim that the ETS could cause irreparable harm, noting that employers and employees will be permitted to utilize test-and-mask schemes, “which are entirely temporary in nature and do not create irreparable injuries,” undercutting claims of irreparable injury.

If the rule goes into effect, employees of companies with 100 or more employees will be required to either show proof of vaccination or submit to weekly testing and a workplace mask mandate.

“By contrast, the costs of delaying implementation of the ETS are comparatively high,” Stranch wrote. “Fundamentally, the ETS is an important step in curtailing the transmission of a deadly virus that has killed over 800,000 people in the United States, brought our healthcare system to its knees, forced businesses to shut down for months on end, and cost hundreds of thousands of workers their jobs.”

She didn’t mention that it was politicians and health bureaucrats who forced businesses to close, not a virus that has no power to issue such orders.

The judge quoted OSHA, which claims that the ETS will save 6,500 worker lives and prevent 250,000 hospitalizations over a period of six months.

“A stay would risk compromising these numbers, indisputably a significant injury to the public,” Stranch said. “The harm to the Government and the public interest outweighs any irreparable injury to the individual Petitioners who may be subject to a vaccination policy, particularly here where Petitioners have not shown a likelihood of success on the merits.”

The judge did not address the fact that millions of American workers who took the COVID-19 vaccine (and the booster)—many under duress from their employers and government officials—have since been infected with the virus and are themselves spreading the virus, presumably in their workplaces.

It’s very likely this case will be further adjudicated at the Supreme Court. In the meantime, many employers are already beginning to implement the provisions of the ETS—and many employees are either submitting (fearing for their jobs) or leaving their professions for greener and less-Stalin-like pastures.

Vaccine push CLEARLY a depopulation push

The New England Journal of Medicine published a study showing pregnant women given the Fauci jabs in their first and second trimesters going into spontaneous abortion shortly after getting the spike proteins injected into their vascular system. This vaccine-induced abortion rate is not at 4 percent, or 10 percent, or 50 percent – it’s at a whopping 82 percent.

Do the women of this world want to play Russian roulette with their baby’s life with four to five bullets in a six-chamber gun? Education today has moved so far left that, in many cases, it has even left liberals — in shock. A good example is the parents who’ve made news protesting the racial policies at their children’s ritzy, high-end New York City private schools. What’s more, as education watchers know painfully well, even math and other basic subjects have too often been reduced to a woke joke. In fact, a recent “letter” from a liberal mother attests to this very fact — and it’s eye-opening.

The testimonial was posted in a regional Mensa forum in response to an article by writer Bruce Deitrick Price, who specializes in analyzing our K-12 educational woes. Here it is, as presented Sunday by Price (who edited it slightly for clarity) at American Thinker:

I read your article and couldn’t agree more. I have lived it with my twins for the last 13 years. I nearly cried when we moved from a NYC public school to a school district in an affluent part of NJ only to find out they had the same mind-numbing constructivist Math program (TERC, Everyday Math, etc.).

As someone who loved Math in school, I couldn’t believe how much I hated and was confused by their math homework. There were many tears and much throwing of pencils across the room. At one point, I think around 6th grade, every single one of my son’s friends was being privately tutored. Which made me think the school system shouldn’t really have any bragging rights if their math scores are presentable since they are more a reflection of parents who can afford tutors, not an excellent program.

This issue was apparently raised shortly before we moved here and shot down by the school board. Every time I have raised the issue, I have been told, “Everyone loves it.” Why they are so married to this abysmal program is a mystery to me. I personally think it is an abomination.

I do believe it’s a follow-the-money situation. All that expensive “retraining” of experienced math teachers so they can teach the Egyptian lattice method? And don’t get me started on whole word reading. So ridiculous. I recall being stupefied when we were told not to correct misspellings because that would damage their confidence and that somehow they would magically learn the correct spelling on their own. Seriously?

My twins are now seniors in high school and doing well in spite of, in my opinion, not because of, their horrific foundation. I ended up doing flash cards and phonics at home. I pulled my kids out for one year to homeschool them when I realized my son still couldn’t add after 3rd grade. The idea of kids learning from other kids who are equally clueless is just so insane. And I want my kids to be well educated world citizens. But I did think it was a bit odd when they were studying Africa in 2nd and 3rd grade at their NYC school before they had even learned anything about their own country.

I don’t think this should have anything to do with political leanings. On most issues, I am usually progressive/liberal but would happily align myself with anyone who thinks our educational system needs some common sense injected into it. People need to stop worrying about offending “their side” and speak the truth as they see it. It is the kids who are suffering needlessly and our entire country that will pay the price for a poorly educated populace.

The letter mostly speaks for itself, but a couple of things should be noted. First, having to privately tutor children is a bit like having to hire private security: In many cases, it means the government isn’t doing the job it’s paid to do (via taxes), so the people must essentially pay for the same service twice.

Of course, poor Americans can’t afford to do this, which is why dysfunctional “education” models hurt them most.

As for this “nowism,” this fetish for new ideas no matter how fanciful, G.K. Chesterton wrote about its educational impact in 1910 in What’s Wrong With the World. To wit:

The trouble in too many of our modern schools is that the State, being controlled so specially by the few, allows cranks and experiments to go straight to the schoolroom when they have never passed through the Parliament, the public house, the private house, the church, or the marketplace. Obviously, it ought to be the oldest things that are taught to the youngest people; the assured and experienced truths that are put first to the baby. But in a school to-day the baby has to submit to a system that is younger than himself. The flopping infant of four actually has more experience, and has weathered the world longer, than the dogma to which he is made to submit. Many a school boasts of having the last ideas in education, when it has not even the first idea; for the first idea is that even innocence, divine as it is, may learn something from experience.

Doom Is Yours: Biden Threatens Winter of ‘Severe Illness and Death’ for the Unvaccinated

Old Joe Biden had a sunny message for the American people on Thursday when he announced that the unvaccinated were heading into a winter of “severe illness and death.” The apocalyptic preacher in the Oval Office, speaking through a black mask and looking like a demented Kris Kringle surrounded by his cheesy holiday decor, cried: “It’s here now and it’s spreading and it’s going to increase. For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death, if you’re unvaccinated, for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they will soon overwhelm. But, there’s good news. If you’re vaccinated and have your booster shot you’re protected from severe illness and death. Period.”

Also on Thursday, CBS News reported that “following a unanimous vote of its outside panel of vaccine advisers, the CDC on Thursday issued updated recommendations preferring Pfizer and Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccines over Johnson & Johnson’s, in light of new data about the risk of a rare blood clotting side effect linked to the Johnson & Johnson shot.” As for Pfizer, according to RT on Sunday, “documents released by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reveal that drugmaker Pfizer recorded nearly 160,000 adverse reactions to its Covid-19 vaccine in the initial months of its rollout. The documents were obtained by a group of doctors, professors, and journalists calling themselves Public Health and Medical Professionals for Transparency, who filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the FDA for their release.”

In other words, it isn’t at all clear that “if you’re vaccinated and have your booster shot you’re protected from severe illness and death,” as Biden claimed, but the guardians of acceptable opinion have decided that suspicions about the efficacy and side effects of the vaccines are not permissible.

Biden continued his scolding session by saying: “Get your booster shot. It’s critically important. And if you haven’t, you haven’t gotten your booster shot, get your first shot.” Regarding the booster, the BBC reported Friday that “UK researchers have analyzed the likely impact that a Covid booster shot will have on Omicron and say it could provide around 85% protection against severe illness.” That sounds great until you learn that “the protection is a bit less than vaccines gave against earlier versions of Covid,” and that “the researchers say there is a high degree of uncertainty until more real-world information is gathered about this new variant that is spreading quickly.”

So Old Joe is demanding that Americans get vaccines about which there are increasing reports of adverse side effects, and a booster that no one is really sure works at all. This is a magnitude of hysteria we haven’t seen since the Salem witch trials; what has been forgotten amid the regime’s Covid hysteria is that if the vaccines had really proven to be safe and effective, no one would have hesitated to get them at all. But the fact that they’re being pushed so energetically by people who are serially and habitually dishonest only makes many people all the more suspicious.

What’s more, when Biden warms that the unvaccinated will soon overwhelm the hospitals, his threat of doom for the unvaccinated comes with a whiff of menace. Biden’s warning came amid increasing calls on the Left to deny hospital space to the unvaccinated, which could happen on a large scale in the near future. Yet all of this is to combat a Covid variant that is mild, but about which Biden’s handlers and the establishment media are doing everything they can to whip up a new fever pitch of Covid hysteria.

So maybe the “severe illness and death” that Biden sees looming for the unvaccinated will come to them because they will be refused basic medical care, in what would be the crowning injustice of this outbreak of hysteria. Given Leftists’ ongoing, multifaceted and relentless demonization of their political opponents, it wouldn’t be at all difficult to envision a scenario in which hospital space is denied to those who note the growing evidence of the dangers and inefficacy of the vaccines. And those who deprived others of medical treatment would feel righteous, as righteous as the mask scolds who still haunt department stores and supermarkets. The good burghers of Salem who put the witches to death thought they were doing the right thing, too.
