Turkey offers to mediate Israel-Hamas war, but faces scrutiny for hosting Hamas leaders

Turkey is reportedly facing scrutiny for “offering to mediate the crisis in Israel” because it previously hosted senior members of Hamas. But that’s not all that should immediately disqualify Turkey from any consideration for a mediation role. In 2019, it was revealed that Turkey was allowing senior Hamas operatives to plot jihad attacks against Israel from Istanbul. Then in mid-August 2020, Turkey was accused of giving citizenship to Hamas members who were planning jihad terror attacks, which Turkey denied. Just over a week after that, Turkish President Erdogan hosted a large Hamas delegation, including wanted jihad terrorists who murdered Israelis. And then in 2022, Turkey refused Israel’s request to expel Hamas, stating that it didn’t view the group as terrorist. Erdogan has also called Israel’s response to Hamas in Gaza a “massacre.” It was Hamas that carried out a massacre, while Israel fights for its right to exist.

Turkey has no place in any negotiations involving the Israel-Hamas war. It is also a strong Muslim Brotherhood supporter; Hamas is a Brotherhood offshoot.

But expect just about anything since Biden is in the Oval Office. The Turkish government is expanding its influence in the U.S. It recently purchased a multimillion-dollar building in Washington.

“Turkey Faces Scrutiny for Hosting Hamas Leaders,” by Dorian Jones, VOA News, October 12, 2023:

Turkey is offering to mediate the crisis in Israel. But Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan faces growing international scrutiny for hosting senior members of Hamas, designated by the U.S. and others as a terrorist organization. Dorian Jones reports from Istanbul.

‘God has helped me’: Israeli woman describes living in war with Hamas

Liran Yael Siegal is using social media to share what it is like to live in Israel amid its war with Hamas militants. Siegal joins "NewsNation Live" to describe the latest from the ground, saying, "Yes, Gaza is still being bombed, but Gaza is still bombing us too." Despite this, Siegal says her faith in God has helped her achieve a sense of peace.

Israeli Couple Went Down Fighting, But Saved Their Babies’ Lives

A story getting widespread attention on social media, and on television, and not only in the United States, is that of the Berdichevsky family, who lived in Kfar Aza, the tiny kibbutz where many of the worst atrocities took place. When the Hamas murderers rode into the kibbutz on motorbikes early on the morning of October 7, the young couple, Itai and Hadar Berdichevsky, sprang into action. Hadar and Itai Berdichevsky, both 30 years old, were determined that whatever happened to them, they would fight to the last, no doubt realizing that they would soon be killed. They would make sure that their twin 10-month-old baby boys would survive. The parents’ heroism and sacrifice have even been presented on CBS News. More on this story can be found here: “Israeli twin babies found hidden and unharmed at the kibbutz where Hamas killed their parents,” by Li Cohen, CBS News, October 12, 2023:

An Israeli kibbutz just miles from the Gaza Strip was the scene of a massacre on Saturday [October 7] when Hamas terrorists attacked. Amid what officials described as a “haunting” scene, they also uncovered [sic] that twin babies less than a year old had miraculously survived — because their young parents hid them just before being murdered by the militants.

They knew that if they didn’t, their children would be killed. The mother, Hadar, having put the babies into their safe room, instead of remaining in her own shelter, emerged to fill their bottles. Her body was found in the kitchen, along with the bottles she had taken to refill. It is believed that she tried to fight, in the kitchen, before being shot to death. Meanwhile, like Hadar without a weapon, her husband Itai tried with his bare hands to fight off the killers. What damage he may have inflicted, and how long he lasted before being murdered, is not known. Here is what Hadar’s brother, Dvir Rosenfeld, told 60 Minutes: “Israeli couple who were killed protecting their twin babies from Hamas gunmen ‘were heroes,’ family says,” by Norah O’Donnell, Alicia Hastey, Adam Verdugo, Justine Redman, and Carrie Rabin, CBS News, October 13, 2023:

Rosenfeld believes she [Hadar] was likely killed when she left her own shelter.

“I know for sure that is what happened,” Rosenfeld said. “She went out to bring the bottles because they [the IDF soldiers who first came on the scene] said that there were bottles on the floor. And when she did, they just got into her apartment.”

At that point, Hadar might have raced back to her safe room, but that would have led the Hamas murderers to seek her out, and then they would likely have found, as well, where the babies had been hidden, and murdered all of them. She chose instead to save the twins by remaining outside their safe room and battling furiously against the invaders.

Hadar’s body was found in the kitchen. Her husband, Itay Berdichevsky, was found between the beds of their 10-month-old babies, who survived.

I know that Itay died trying to protect them,” Rosenfeld said. “And I can’t imagine what he has been through knowing his wife just got murdered, and his two sons are next to him, and he’s the only thing between the terrorists and the babies.”

The babies were at this point in their shelter, not in their beds. Their father was still fighting off, as best he could, the Hamas men in the house, knowing that his wife was already dead, and hoping to distract the Hamas terrorists from finding the babies. And he did. And he died.

For fourteen hours they [the twin baby boys] were alone, hungry, drenched in their own sweat and urine, crying uncontrollably, until finally found by the emergency rescue services..

The mass killing occurred at the Kfar Aza kibbutz, a community just a few miles from the Gaza border. Israeli officials previously said that when Israeli Defense Forces arrived at the kibbutz, they found “blood spread out in homes.”…

Imagine the horror,” Segev tweeted. “Two terrified parents who tried with all their might to protect their children, who are now orphans.”

It’s a haunting scene: the young parents fighting desperately, unarmed, against killers, and trying to distract them from finding where their babies had been hidden. May that haunt many people in the Western world, and stiffen their resolve to support Israel unreservedly, when they are being deluged with sickening claims that Israel is to blame, Israel is a “settler colonial” and “apartheid” state, and even, among those completely demented by antisemitism, that Israel is “no better than Hamas.”

Nadia El Nakla at Justice for Palestine Festival 2012 Dundee Scotland

The great thing about Muslim migrants moving to Europe is that it’s just like home.

Nadia El-Nakla

Nadia Maged El-Nakla (born 1984) is a Scottish psychotherapistpolitical activist and politician. She has served as a councillor on Dundee City Council since 2022, representing the west end of Dundee.[1] She is a member of the Scottish National Party (SNP). She is married to Humza Yousaffirst minister of Scotland and leader of the SNP.

Early life[edit]

El-Nakla was born in Dundee to a Palestinian father and Dundonian mother.[2][3][4] She gained a MSc in Counselling from Abertay University.[5]

Career[edit]

El-Nakla is a qualified psychotherapist counsellor and has experience working with addiction, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, eating disorders, bereavement and suicidal ideation. She is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.[5]

She worked as a case worker for Shona Robison, the member of the Scottish Parliament for the Dundee City East constituency.[6]

In the 2022 Scottish local elections, El-Nakla ran as an SNP candidate in the Dundee City Council's west end ward 3.[7] She was successful in her election bid and currently sits as a councillor, serving as the equalities spokesperson.[8][9]

Personal life[edit]

El-Nakla with her husband, Humza Yousaf, and her mother-in-law at the Court of Session, March 2023

El-Nakla was previously married to Fariad Umar, an IT expert, and they had one daughter together.[10] In November 2015, Umar discovered racist text messages sent to El-Nakla by Craig Melville, an SNP councillor, with whom she was having a sexual affair, after using software to recover messages sent to her phone. The couple eventually filed for divorce.[11]

In 2019, El-Nakla married Humza Yousaf, the current first minister of Scotland and leader of the SNP.[12] She later gave birth to her second daughter, the first of Yousaf's, and the family lived in Broughty Ferry, a suburb a few miles east of the city of Dundee.[13]

She has disclosed that she has had five miscarriages.[14]

In 2021, El-Nakla made a complaint of discrimination against a Dundee children's nursery that did not offer a place to her daughter.[15] The complaint was upheld by the Care Inspectorate who found that the nursery "did not promote fairness, equality and respect" in terms of its admission policy.[16] She later terminated the legal action.[17]

In October 2023 her parents, Maged and Elizabeth El-Nakla, became trapped in the Gaza Strip during the Israel–Hamas war after travelling to the area to visit a sick relative.[18]

Scotland’s First Minister Humza Yousaf has announced that the country is welcoming refugees from Gaza amid the war between Israel and Hamas.

Yusaf announced on Wednesday that Scotland is ready to offer asylum to the people of Gaza who have been displaced in the ongoing conflict.

He made the announcement on X (Twitter) emphasizing that they are willing to be a place of sanctuary for displaced victims.

“The people of Gaza are a proud people. Many don’t want to leave, and shouldn’t have to. But for those displaced, who want to leave, there should be a worldwide refugee scheme. Scotland is willing to be a place of sanctuary and be the first country to take those refugees,” he said.

Yousaf also urged countries in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, the United Kingdom, and the U.S. to welcome Gaza refugees.

“Let’s say that Scotland will be a place of sanctuary for them as we have shown kindness and compassion for others. Let us show it once again and this time for the people of Gaza,” Yousaf said. “And Scotland is willing to be the first country in the U.K. to take those refugees.”

In another video that Yousaf posted to X, he said that Scotland’s hospitals would care for people in Gaza who have been injured in the war.

The first minister asserted that he is now calling on the U.K. government to “begin work on the creation of a refugee resettlement scheme for those in Gaza who want to, and of course are able to, leave.”

He also mentioned that some of his own relatives were stranded in Gaza while expressing his country’s willingness to welcome Palestinian refugees.

Yousaf went on to say that Israel has the right to defend itself, but that it is inflicting collective punishment in Gaza, which is illegal under international law.

Several Democrat legislators have recently urged President Biden to push Israel into protecting innocent Gaza residents following a recent explosion in a Gaza hospital that killed hundreds.

Germany: Supporters of Hamas jihad massacre paint Star of David on Jewish homes in Berlin

Germany has been here before. It didn’t end well. But this new resurgence of violent Jew hatred in the country is their own doing. Angela Merkel opened the doors to a flood of Muslim migrants. Now Germany is celebrating diversity.

“Star of David is graffitied on Jewish homes in Berlin after Hamas attacks on Israel – in chilling echo of anti-Semitic persecution of the Jews under the Nazis,” by Elena Salvoni, Daily Mail, October 15, 2023:

The Star of David has been graffitied on the doors of homes in Berlin, in a chilling echo of anti-Semitic persecution of Jewish people under the Nazis.

Pictures circulating online show the symbol was drawn on several buildings, with four cases reported to German police in recent days.

Jewish people living in the German capital have reported a rise in abuse following Hamas’s bloody attack on Israel last week.

Among those targeted by vandalism was a young Jewish woman, who said she was shocked when she returned to her apartment on Thursday evening to find a star marked on her door.

The woman, who has a mezuzah – a Jewish house blessing – outside her flat, said that the incident was a ‘huge shock’ and left her ‘scared’.

‘I speak Hebrew, talk on the phone in Hebrew, and wear a Star of David… I really thought about whether I should stay at home,’ the woman told Bild.

Police said they are now investigating ‘whether the other houses have a Jewish resident and whether the incidents are connected.’

The incidents amount to a crime under German law, and seem to be an imitation of the persecution of Jews during the 1930s.

During the Holocaust, Nazi brownshirts painted the Star of David in white on the doors of Jewish businesses to discourage non-Jewish Germans from going into them.

It comes as a German intelligence chief claimed that ‘some Palestinians are openly and blatantly calling for a kind of Kristallnacht 2.0,’ in reference to the Nazis’ violent coordinated attacks on Jewish homes and businesses in 1938….

U.S. Embassy To Evacuate Americans Trying To Leave Israel

The United States Embassy announced that Americans who want to leave Israel and escape the ongoing conflict will have the opportunity to do so by sea.

On Sunday, the Embassy announced in a security alert that a ship would leave Haifa, which is a northern Israeli port city, on Monday, October 16th, and arrive in the Port of Limassol in Cyprus.

“The U.S. government is assisting U.S. nationals and their immediate family members with a valid travel document to depart Haifa via sea for Cyprus on October 16, 2023,” the security alert said. “Boarding begins at 0800 AM local time. U.S. citizens must arrive at Haifa port passenger terminal no later than 0900 AM local time.”

According to the advisory, before boarding the ship, Americans must first sign a written agreement committing to repay the U.S. government for their travel expenses.

The embassy also said that preparations are subject to change, depending on Israel’s security situation, and the government cannot guarantee any interested parties’ complete safety.

Americans will be in charge of planning hotels, flights, and travel to and from Cyprus. Meanwhile, U.S. embassy employees will be available to offer assistance, and chartered flights are currently being “arranged.”

The trip from Haifa to Cyprus will reportedly take between 10 and 12 hours.

This comes as the White House and State Department announced on Friday that they had launched chartered aircraft from Israel to Athens and Frankfurt, in order to “facilitate the safe departure of thousands of U.S. citizens.”

According to reports, additional flights have been scheduled between Tel Aviv and Athens until at least October 19th and more than 400 Americans have already signed up for the first flight.

John Kirby, a spokesman for the White House, also claimed that the government was still considering additional strategies for evacuating Americans.

“We’re just trying to add to the options,” Kirby said.

Media reports stated that between 160,000 and 170,000 Americans are currently residing in Israel as tourists, residents, or in other capacities, including up to 600 American citizens in Gaza.

The State Department issued a Level 3 travel advisory for Israel, advising Americans to “reconsider travel” to the nation.

Israeli tanks line Gaza border as hostage numbers confirmed

Doctors in Gaza say they fear thousands could die because hospitals are running desperately low on generator fuel and basic supplies. Palestinians in the besieged Strip are struggling to find food, water, and safety, as they brace for a ground offensive. Israel continues to urge Gazans to flee the north - giving them more time to take the main road south. The Rafah Crossing - the only exit not controlled by Israel - remains shut as Egypt refuses to allow foreigners out until Israel agrees to let vital aid in. The UN estimates that almost half of Gaza's population has left their homes - the number of people in Khan Younis has more than doubled. But even the south has been hit by Israeli air strikes, which Gaza's Health Ministry says have killed more than 2,450 people. Tensions have also escalated In the West Bank, with 55 Palestinians killed in the last week by Israeli troops and settlers. More than 1,300 Israelis were killed in last weekend's attack by Hamas - which the UK has designated a terrorist group. Israel has closed the area along its border with Lebanon after a Hezbollah missile killed a civilian in an Israeli border village. Alex Thomson reports on the latest developments. You may find some of the images upsetting.

Okay, Did Hamas Really Behead Babies During Its Massacres in Israel?

Okay, Did Hamas Really Behead Babies During Its Massacres in Israel?
AP Photo/Ariel Schalit
War propaganda? Maybe not. Ever since the horrific report went out that Israeli forces had discovered beheaded babies in the wake of Hamas’ jihad massacres of Oct. 7, the doubters have been vocal. When the Israeli government initially said that it couldn’t confirm the story, the minds of many people were made up: this was just another lie, concocted to draw America into yet another war. Yet the original reporter is standing by her story, and others are confirming it as well.

Jackson Hinkle, an anti-Israel social media personality with over half a million followers on Twitter/X, was one of the doubters, tweeting on Thursday: “The US lied about Iraq. The US lied about Syria. The US lied about Libya. The US lied about Kuwait. The US lied about Ukraine. The US lied about Afghanistan. But you think they’re telling the truth about Israel – Palestine & 40 beheaded babies? Give me a break.”

Hinkle’s tweet came just short of nine hours after the Jerusalem Post tweeted: “The Jerusalem Post can now confirm based on verified photos of the bodies that the reports of babies being burnt and decapitated in Hamas’s assault on Kfar Aza are correct.”

What’s more, the reporter who broke this story is standing by every word. PJM’s Catherine Salgado noted Tuesday that i24News correspondent Nicole Zedeck said during a broadcast, “David, it’s hard to even explain exactly just the mass casualties that happened right here. In fact, the Israeli military says they still don’t have a clear number… Babies, their heads cut off, that’s what they said; gunned down — families, completely gunned down in their beds.”

On Wednesday, Zedeck confronted those who were doubting her report. On the Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show, she said, “I witnessed some of those scenes with my own eyes as we were walking through this community that may be a quarter of a mile from the Gaza border, the atrocities that were still left behind, children, cribs, baby cribs overturned on their side, splattered with blood.” She said that it was an “apocalyptic scene.”

Yes, but were babies beheaded? Zedeck said of those who came to the scene of the Hamas massacre at the Kfar Aza kibbutz, “There are no words to describe what they’ve seen. Babies’ heads are cut off. That’s what they encountered when they came there.” She added, “So as horrible as it is I wish that it wasn’t true. And I see how those images and those words are hard to comprehend because it’s hard to comprehend how anyone could commit such heinous, heinous crimes. But that’s exactly what happened in just one of the kibbutz communities.”

Of those who doubted her testimony, Zedeck said:

You know, it’s sickening, really, that people are asking, “Where are the babies? Why aren’t you showing the babies?” Is that something that anyone would want to see the first thing with their own eyes? Because after the graphic images that I saw of just children’s beds covered in blood, I don’t think I would be able to stomach those atrocities as well. I could never imagine something like that happening, so I could never speak those words if no one had spoken them to me because I didn’t know that was a possibility for someone to witness with their own eyes. I didn’t know anyone was capable of committing something like that, so that’s the only way I could report it, by speaking to these soldiers, these commanders, who witnessed it firsthand.

It’s also important to note that what is at issue here is whether or not babies were beheaded. No one is denying that Hamas murdered babies among the 1,300 Israelis it slaughtered. So the implication that this is all just war propaganda and that if it can be definitively disproven that Hamas beheaded babies, then everything would be sunshine and daisies in Israel and Gaza, is false.

Related: Everything You Need to Know About the Israeli Occupation (That Is, Everything the Left Won’t Tell You)

Hamas committed numerous sickening atrocities last Saturday, and those who are accustomed to dehumanizing Israelis have been celebrating that fact all over the world. If it beheaded babies, as the Jerusalem Post and Nicole Zedeck report, no one would be surprised; after all, beheading is a favored tactic of jihadis the world over, hallowed by Qur’anic sanction (8:12, 47:4). If this were any other news item, no one would have doubted the initial report. But many people just can’t get their minds around the idea that any atrocities could really be committed against the country they love to hate most of all.

Chaos Unfolds On Air as MSNBC Host Asks Grieving Israeli Mother to Pity Hamas

Israel says it has killed Hamas attack leader Ali Qadhi | LiveNOW from FOX

Israel says they have killed a senior leader in Hamas' commando forces, Ali Qadhi, who planned the October 7 attack that massacred 1,300 Israelis. Abu Merad, who was the head of Hamas' air forces, was also killed, according to the Israeli military. The Israel Defense Forces say its infantry forces and tanks entered the Gaza Strip on Friday to conduct localized raids. "Ali Qadi led the inhumane, barbaric October 7 massacre of civilians in Israel," Israel Defense Forces said. "We just eliminated him. All Hamas terrorists will meet the same fate." Israeli Defense Force ordered more than a million residents in Northern Gaza to evacuate ahead of a possible ground invasion to stop Hamas.

Hamas and Fatah Explain What Their War Against Israel is All About

A lesson in Islamic theology

[Make sure to read Robert Spencer’s contributions in Jamie Glazov’s new book: Barack Obama’s True Legacy: How He Transformed America.]

Why are the Islamic jihad groups fighting against Israel? Why do they think that committing the dismaying actions we saw in Israel on Saturday is the right, and indeed the righteous, thing to do?

As the death toll from Saturday’s jihad massacres in Israel continues to mount, the world looks on in horror at the atrocities that were committed — the wanton massacre of people at a peace concert, the beheaded babies, and so much more. It is hard for Americans and Europeans to fathom how or why any human beings would do such things.

Now, however, two jihad groups, including the one that was behind the massacres, Hamas, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah, have issued statements that clarify exactly what they think they’re doing. As you might expect, they both make for chilling reading.

The indispensable Palestinian Media Watch reported Monday that “a Telegram channel associated with Fatah’s military wing the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, is calling on Palestinians to slaughter Jews who they term ‘apes and pigs.’” That’s actually a reference to the Islamic holy book, the Qur’an, which, in three separate passages, refers to Allah punishing Sabbath-breaking Jews by transforming them into apes and pigs (2:53-65; 5:59-60; 7:166).

Fatah’s exhortation to jihad also includes this: “Fight them, and Allah will punish them by your hands, and he will lay them low and give you victory over them, and he will heal the hearts of people who are believers.” That also is from the Qur’an (9:14) and expresses one of the biggest differences between Judaism and Christianity on the one hand and Islam on the other. While both the Jewish (Deuteronomy 32:35) and Christian (Romans 12:19) traditions say that vengeance for wrongdoing is up to God, and not for any individual to pursue, the Qur’an tells Muslims that they are to be the executors of the wrath of Allah: he will punish errant human beings by the hands of the followers of Muhammad.

This is how the jihadis who killed Israeli civilians wholesale on Saturday could do so while believing they were doing nothing less than carrying out the will of the one and only God. They believe those whom they killed to be enemies of Allah and the Muslims, and consequently to have deserved everything they got, and more.

Fatah’s communiqué is thus packed with Qur’anic references as if to emphasize that as far as Muslims are concerned, the murder of Israeli civilians is a holy struggle. That’s why Muslims across the world have joyfully celebrated the attacks instead of expressing revulsion at their bloody excesses. So when Fatah calls upon Muslims to “strike the sons of apes of pigs, kill everyone who is a settler, slaughter everyone who is Israeli,” it not only has no qualms about issuing such a broad-based call for murder but knows this call will resonate with many other believers throughout the world.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Hamas military commander Mohammed Deif hailed the beginning of what he called “Operation Al-Aqsa Deluge.” He said that the massacres of that day were just the “first strike,” and that much more was coming. Deif declared: “I say to the masses of the people and our nation, and to the free people of the world: Today, the wrath of Al-Aqsa has exploded – the rage of our people, our nation, and the free people of the world. I say to our pure mujahideen: This is the day that you make this criminal enemy understand that its time is up. ‘Kill them wherever you may find them.’” That also was a quotation from the Qur’an (2:191, 4:89, cf. 9:5).

These documents of Hamas and Fatah are nothing new. Hamas and its allies always speak of their conflict with Israel in Islamic theological terms, yet this is the one aspect of the conflict that Western policymakers never take into consideration.

Hezbollah ‘Fully Prepared’ To Join Hamas In War With Israel

As the war in Israel rages on, the terrorist group Hezbollah claimed it is “fully prepared” to join Hamas in its war against Israel.

On Friday, Deputy Chief Naim Qassem emphasized Lebanon would join in the fight “when the time comes for action.”

The speech came during a rally in a Beirut suburb, where hundreds of people gathered in unison with Hamas, waving flags representing Palestine and Hezbollah while screaming “Death to Israel.”

Qassem told supporters that Hezbollah was rejecting other nations’ calls to not get involved in the war.

“The behind-the-scenes calls with us by great powers, Arab countries, envoys of the United Nations, directly and indirectly, telling us not to interfere will have no effect,” Qassem said.

“The behind-the-scenes calls with us by great powers, Arab countries, envoys of the United Nations, directly and indirectly, telling us not to interfere will have no effect,” Qassem said.

“The question being asked, which everyone is waiting for, is what Hezbollah will do and what will its contribution be?

“We will contribute to the confrontation within our plan — when the time comes for any action, we will carry it out.”

The comments by the terrorist group leader come as Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant declared that Hamas is part of an “axis of evil” with Iran and Hezbollah.”

Gallant made the statement alongside Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin after Israel ordered over one million people to evacuate from Gaza as they prepare to unleash a ground offensive on Hamas.

The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) issued a statement to Gazans saying, “the evacuation is for your own safety.”

“In the following days, the IDF will continue to operate significantly in Gaza City and make extensive efforts to avoid harming civilians,” the IDF said.

Meanwhile, Israel has cut off food, water, fuel and electricity to Gaza, and Israeli Energy Minister Israel Katz said that there would be no exceptions to the siege without freedom for hostages taken by Hamas.

Imagine not being sickened by the atrocities Hamas committed, and continuing to side with them. This is because the Qur’an states: “Muhammad is the apostle of Allah. Those who follow him are ruthless to unbelievers, merciful to one another.”

“Mayor of America’s First Muslim Majority City Council Declares ‘No Peace’ With Israel,” by Jack Montgomery, National Pulse, October 11, 2023:

The Mayor of Hamtramck – America’s first Muslim-majority city council – Amer Ghalib, responded to the past week’s events in the Middle East with a pro-Hamas message insisting: “Peace can never coexist with occupation and injustice, anywhere and at any time ، no matter how strong the oppressor or how weak the oppressed is!”…

There are similar issues elsewhere in Michigan, with Dearborn’s Mayor Abdullah Hammoud responding to the Hamas attack with a long social media post suggesting the mass murder of Israeli civilians was the “inevitable” consequence of the “occupation”.

Here is one young woman’s account of what happened at the music festival when the Hamas killers arrived. As we now know, at least 260 Israelis were murdered at the site. “Israeli survivors recount terror at the music festival, where Hamas militants killed at least 260,” by Isabel Debre and Michael Biesecker, Associated Press, October 9, 2023:

The night was a getaway. Thousands of young men and women gathered at a vast field in southern Israel near the Gaza border to dance without a care. Old and new friends jumped up and down, reveling in the swirl of the bass-heavy beats.

Maya Alper was standing toward the back of the bar with teams of environmentally conscious volunteers, picking up trash and passing out free vodka shots to party-goers who reused their cups. Just after 6.a.m., as a light-blue dawn broke and the headliner D.J. took the stage, air raid sirens cut through the ethereal trap music. Rockets streaked overhead.

Alper, 25, jumped into her car and raced to the main road. But at the intersection she encountered crowds of stricken festival attendees, shouting at drivers to turn around. Then, a noise. Firecrackers? Panicked men and women staggering down the road just in front of her fell to the ground in pools of blood. Gunshots.

Saturday’s attack on the open-air Tribe of Nova music festival is believed to be the worst civilian massacre in Israeli history, with at least 260 dead and a still undetermined number taken hostage. [No: the attack was not just at the music festival, but at two dozen sites all over southern Israel; 1000 Israelis were murdered in what was “the worst civilian massacre in Israeli history.”] Dozens of Hamas militants who had blown through Israel’s heavily fortified separation fence and crossed into the country from Gaza opened fire on about 3,500 young Israelis who had come together for a joyous night of electronic music to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Sukkot….

We were hiding and running, hiding and running, in an open field — the worst place you could possibly be in that situation,” said Arik Nani from Tel Aviv, who had gone to the party to celebrate his 26th birthday. “For a country where everyone in these circles knows everyone, this is a trauma like I could never imagine.”

Festival-goers who managed to make it to the road and parking lot where their vehicles were parked found themselves trapped in a traffic jam, with militants stalking the cars and spraying those inside with gunfire. Drone footage of the scene taken after the attack and reviewed by the AP shows chaotic lines of cars where drivers had attempted to flee. Some burned-out vehicles were flipped onto their sides, while others had bullet holes visible in shattered windows.

Nowhere was safe, Alper said. The roar of explosions, hysterical screams, and automatic gunfire felt closer the further she drove. When a man just meters away shouted “God is great!”, Alper and her new companions sprung out of the car and sprinted through open fields toward a mass of bushes.

Alper felt a bullet whiz past her left ear. Aware the gunmen would outrun her, she plunged into a tangle of shrubs. Peering through thorns, she said she saw one of her passengers, the girl who had lost her friend, shriek and collapse as a gunman stood over her limp body, grinning.

“I can’t even explain the energy they (the militants) had. It was so clear they didn’t see us as human beings,” she said. “They looked at us with pure, pure hate.”

Videos show the gunmen executed some of the wounded at point-blank range as they crouched on the ground….

“Every time I thought of anger, or fear or revenge, I breathed it out,” she said. “I tried to think of what I was grateful for — the bush that hid me so well that even birds landed on it, the birds that were still singing, the sky that was so blue.”…

Even in her fear and despair, Maya Alper managed to hold on for more than six hours by thinking about — it’s a line of pure poetry — “the birds that were still singing, the sky that was so blue.”

“This is not just war. This is hell,” Alper said. “But in that hell, I still feel that somehow, we can choose to act out of love, and not just fear.”

Remember this account. Remember the Hamas men moving methodically to mow down everyone — those trying to escape in cars, those who ran across open fields, those who tried to get into shelters, those who tried to play dead and then were dead. Remember the Hamas killer, having just murdered a girl, who was seen by Maya Alper standing over her limp body, grinning.
