Billionaire George Soros has donated at least $1 million this past decade to a group with strong ties to the terrorist organization, Hamas.

According to the Washington Examiner, the Democrat megadonor has been funding the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights since 2012.

Jonathan Kaplan, the spokesperson for Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF), provided a statement to the Examiner reaffirming the organization’s ongoing support for Al Mezan.

The Foundation “is proud to be among the many international funders of Al Mezan, alongside the European Union and governments including Sweden and the Netherlands,” Kaplan stated.

With the help of OSF, Al Mezan has evolved into a well-financed initiative aiming to exert pressure on the United Nations to support the International Criminal Court in indicting Israeli officials over alleged “war crimes and crimes against humanity.”

Soros’ grant to the group, which is led by Palestinian politician Kamal El-Sharafi, is meant to be used “to monitor and document violations against Palestinians and pursue accountability for abuses,” as well as to track “human rights and international humanitarian law violations in the Gaza Strip.”

Sharafi has connections with many prominent Palestinian figures, including with Jamil Mazhar. Mazhar was recently announced as the new Head Deputy Secretary General of the group Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

Following the attack on Israel on October 7th, Al Mezan along with Al-Haq, released a statement blaming the Jewish State for having the nerve to retaliate against Hamas. Al-Haq is an Israeli-designated terrorist organization that is also funded by Soros.

Leftist Foundations Have Forked Over Millions to Hamas-Linked CAIR

Is there any destructive force in America today that they won’t finance?

REPUBLISHED, SEE: https://www.frontpagemag.com/leftist-foundations-have-forked-over-millions-to-hamas-linked-cair

[Make sure to read Robert Spencer’s contributions in Jamie Glazov’s new book: Barack Obama’s True Legacy: How He Transformed America.]

In Old Joe Biden’s America, those who hate the country and want to see it radically “transformed” into a state without borders, the freedom of speech, the right to bear arms and other annoying obstacles to socialist internationalism, are in the driver’s seat. And they’re raking in millions. This includes the left’s pro-Hamas allies, most notably thHamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Nihad AwadCAIR’s cofounder and longtime executive director, recently came under fire for saying of the Oct. 7 Hamas massacre of 1,200 Israeli civilians: “And yes, I was happy to see people breaking the siege and throwing down the shackles of their own land, and walk free into their land, which they were not allowed to walk in.” This was too much even for the Biden regime, which removed CAIR from its campaign to combat antisemitism. CAIR, loaded as it is with jihad supporters and Jew-haters, never should have been part of that initiative in the first place, but was likely included because it enjoys so much favor among those who make up the Biden regime’s hard-left base. And that favor has translated into millions of dollars in donations for this sinister, unsavory group.

The Jewish News Syndicate reported Wednesday that some of the nation’s most prominent and well-heeled leftist philanthrophic groups shoveled massive amounts of cash to CAIR, despite its lengthy record of smearing foes of jihad violence, justifying that violence, and engaging in jaw-dropping antisemitism. The chief offenders were the American Online Giving Foundation, which gave Awad and his henchmen $1,637,087, Silicon Valley Community Foundation, which was close behind with $1,499,447, and Fidelity Investments Charitable Gift Fund, which forked over $1,474,868.

Then there was California Endowment, which contributed $785,604 for CAIR’s victim-blaming and jihad-enabling;Schwab Charitable Fund, which added $782,178California Community Foundation which kicked in $781,065; and many others: Sierra Health Foundation gave $637,558; Tides Foundation $631,300; Weingart Foundation $602,950and K. Kellogg Foundation $500,000. JNS adds: “The remaining 10 organizations each provided more than $300,000. These include the San Francisco Foundation ($494,000); Network for Good ($489,800); MarJac Foundation, which Mauro [Ryan Mauro, author of the original study] describes as a group linked to the Muslim Brotherhood ($450,000); Charities Aid Foundation ($406,000); California Wellness Foundation ($350,000); Movement Voter Project ($348,240); Columbus Foundation ($336,250); American Endowment Foundation ($315,600); Levi Strauss Foundation ($310,000); and the Orange County Community Federation ($301,255).

This adds up to some very serious money for Hamas-linked CAIR, and doesn’t even represent its entire donor base. CAIR reportedly took in $7.78 million in 2021, and had assets as of that year of $15.6 million. And all that was for a group about which federal prosecutors said this in 2007: “From its founding by Muslim Brotherhood leaders, CAIR conspired with other affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood to support terrorists…the conspirators agreed to use deception to conceal from the American public their connections to terrorists.”

Meanwhile, organizations that speak honestly about the nature and magnitude of the jihad threat, including Jihad Watch, the American Freedom Defense Initiative, and others continue with a small fraction of that funding, and are generally struggling financially. Most would-be donors have been scared away by smears and defamation from the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League; others have been lulled into complacency by lies about how much these organizations actually receive in donations.

It is a symptom of the insanity of our times that groups dedicated to the defense of the United States and Western civilization are shunned, marginalized, and deplatformed, while those dedicated to the destruction of both are prospering and getting richer by the day. CAIR has temporarily lost favor with the Biden regime, but the money will keep rolling in from leftist foundations and other fellow travelers and dupes, and the establishment media will continue to treat this group as if it really were simply a civil rights organization. We are not free of its baneful influence by a long shot.

William Butler Yeats said it in his apocalyptic poem “The Second Coming”: “The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.” In the age of absurdity, we can go Yeats one better, and observe that the best lack all funding, while the worst are full of donations from witless, deluded leftists who think they’re contributing to “diversity” while all they’re really doing is providing the funding for their own eventual ruin.

Congress Tightens Up Reporting Requirements on Foreign Funding of Universities

REPUBLISHED, SEE: https://www.jihadwatch.org/2023/12/congress-tightens-up-reporting-requirements-on-foreign-funding-of-universities

The scandal of certain foreign governments funding programs at American universities that further the interests of their often unsavory regimes is at long last being addressed by Congress. The House has just passed a bill — which will soon be voted on in the Senate — to tighten the reporting requirements for major foreign gifts (above $250,000) and to require greater oversight by universities of the programs being funded. More on this legislation, which is sure to become law, can be found here: “U.S. House Approves Reporting on Foreign Funds to Universities; Includes Key MEF Priorities,” Middle East Forum, December 8, 2023:

American universities will no longer be able to count on a complacent federal bureaucracy and weak legislation to avoid disclosing foreign gifts and contracts, if a House vote two days ago becomes law.

The Defending Education Transparency and Ending Rogue Regimes Engaging in Nefarious Transactions Act – the DETERRENT Act (H.R. 5933) – passed the U.S. House of Representatives Wednesday in a bipartisan vote of 246 to 170. Introduced by Rep. Michelle Steel (R-CA) and co-sponsored by Education and Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) and 25 other members, the bill significantly strengthens key provision of Section 117 of the Higher Education Act.

For decades, many universities have ignored requirements to report foreign gifts or contracts of over $250,000. Legislation lacked the teeth to hold academe accountable, allowing parts of the education bureaucracy to ignore violations of the law. Even if universities complied, they did not need to disclose the purposes for which the funds would be used – a loophole that allowed foreign states such as Qatar and China quietly to fund potentially disreputable projects or individuals….

Particularly worrisome are the large sums provided by rich Arab states, especially Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, to fund a vast expansion of Middle Eastern Studies, and Islamic Studies Departments, providing for greater numbers of faculty with endowed chairs; these faculty members not surprisingly turn out to share the world views of the states that fund them, including their anti-Israel animus and deep sympathy for the “Palestinians.” Saudi Arabia, and individual Saudis, provide large sums not just to endow individual chairs, but also to set up entire centers for Islamic studies, whose members are not unbiased scholars, but promoters and defenders of Islam. One example is the infamous apologist for Islam, John Esposito, who was the founding director of the Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown, which got its start with a $20 million gift from Prince Alwaleed himself. Qatar, which has supported Hamas for decades, including providing refuge for the leaders of its political wing, has funded chairs in Islamic law, as has Saudi Arabia. The amounts provided by Arab states to American universities has been staggering. Qatar has given American universities $4.3 billion over 35 years, between 1986 and 2021, according to a 2021 report by the Executive Director of the American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise, Dr. Mitchell Bard. By December 2023, that amount has risen above $4.5 billion. That buys a lot of goodwill in American universities, and a desire on the part of both faculty members and administrators to please such a funder, in the hope that such sums will continue to roll in from deep-pocketed Doha.

Overall, between 1986 and 2021, American colleges and universities received nearly $8.5 billion from all Arab sources.” That buys the Arabs many friends on campuses, which may help explain why universities have been so lax in policing the antisemitic and anti-Israel student groups that have convulsed so many schools in the last year, and especially after October 7, when the IDF entered Gaza to ensure that Hamas never again poses a military threat to Israel.

The public, the media, and the political class will now see just where all that Arab money is going to in our universities, and for what purposes. How much influence have the Arab states bought, in supporting programs on Middle Eastern Studies and on Islam, that furthers pro-Arab and anti-Israel views? How have faculty members been chosen for these programs? Is there a politically correct test that is being quietly imposed so that, for example, no one sympathetic to Israel will be hired by a Middle East Studies department? Are students taking courses in departments subsidized by Arab money being instructed, or indoctrinated? Thanks to the new requirements for universities to report all foreign money received, and how it will be spent, it will be much harder to hide from the government, and the public, what these vast sums from Arab governments and individuals are meant, and largely have managed until now, to accomplish.

Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter is promoting an $8,000,000 fundraising campaign for Gaza

This money will go to Hamas. There is no entity in Gaza that can prevent this money from going to Hamas.

“Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff is promoting an $8M Gaza fundraising campaign: ‘Abhorrent,’” by Jon Levine, New York Post, November 4, 2023:

…Ella Emhoff, 24 — whose father, First Gentleman Doug Emhoff, is Jewish — affixed a fundraising drive “supporting urgent relief for Gaza’s children” on her personal Instagram account. It makes no mention of the scores of Israeli children murdered among the 1,400 innocent Israelis killed by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7.

Her promotion puts the funding appeal in front of her 315,000 Instagram followers.

The fundraiser, which has netted more than $7.8 million so far, is being operated by the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund, a nonprofit based in Kent, Ohio, which raked in more than $21 million in 2021, according to ProPublica. It’s unclear how much, if anything, Ella Emhoff has personally donated to the cause.

“It’s of tremendous concern and I find it abhorrent,” said Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ). “To be honest with you, I am kind of stunned by it. It’s disturbing to the maximum degree.”

Van Drew, a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, said it was almost certain that Hamas would be able to siphon any humanitarian cash that entered Gaza….

“Ella is not Jewish,” a rep for the second daughter insisted to The Forward in 2021. “It’s not something she grew up with. Ella truly has no qualms with the faith, but she does not want to speak on behalf of Judaism, as she does not celebrate herself.”

Emhoff — whose biological mom is film producer Kerstin Emhoff — has styled herself as a model and making boobs-out appearances at New York Fashion Week….
