Meanwhile in New Jersey, many area experienced life-threatening flash flooding as a result of a storm that nearly stopped Monday night, with many reports in Scotch Plains, Plainfield, and surrounding areas.

Over 80 dead, dozens more still missing from Camp Mystic Christian girls’ camp in Texas floods

27 children remain missing from the Christian summer camp Camp Mystic, where hundreds of young girls had to be air-lifted to safety. The camp was completely destroyed by the floodwaters, with many people still waiting for news on their loved ones. An initial flash flood warning was issued for Kerr County as early as 1 a.m. on Friday, with a more dire Flash Flood Emergency being issued at 4:03 a.m. Authorities say that although about 850 people have been rescued, with hundreds being saved by helicopter, an unknown number of people remain unaccounted for.

Officials also added that 10 campers and one counselor from Camp Mystic are still missing. Hundreds of first responders are helping with rescue and recovery efforts.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott gave an update Sunday on recovery efforts following the flash floods that have killed at least 70 people across his state. Search and rescue efforts continue for the more than two dozen people still missing, including young campers, Kerry County officials said on Sunday morning.

FLOODING IN TEXAS: At least 24 people dead; Dozens missing

Crews searched through the dark early Saturday for two dozen children from a girls camp and many others still missing after a wall of water rushed down a river in the Texas Hill Country during a powerful storm that killed at least 24 people. The death toll was certain to rise. AP reports, the destructive fast-moving waters along the Guadalupe River rose 26 feet (8 meters) in just 45 minutes before dawn Friday, washing away homes and vehicles. The danger was not over as more heavy rains were expected Saturday and flash flood warnings and flood watches remained in effect for parts of central Texas. Searchers used helicopters and drones to look for victims and rescue people stranded. The total number of missing was not known but one sheriff said about 24 of them were girls who had been attending Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp along the river. Frantic parents and families posted photos of missing loved ones and pleas for information. At a news conference late Friday, Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said 24 people were confirmed dead. Authorities said about 240 people had been recued.

Some officials have alleged that the city, being developed in connection with the East Plano Islamic Center in an area east of Dallas, Texas, will enforce Sharia Law over state and federal laws (something the development denies). Glenn speaks with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who’s one of many Texas officials investigating EPIC Cities. Paxton argues that similar communities in Europe have turned into “no-go zones” for local officials. Paxton also addressed what actions he might take against EPIC City and whether there’s a conflict of interest between him and EPIC City’s attorney. Additionally, Paxton discusses his Senate run against Texas Senator John Cornyn and why the Republican establishment has promised to oppose him.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that he will be defying federal orders by ordering all flags in the Lone Star State to be flown at full-staff for President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Abbott’s (R-Texas) announcement follows President Joe Biden’s directive for American flags to be flown at half-staff in order to honor former President Jimmy Carter’s death “for thirty days,” which happens to coincide with Trump’s inauguration on January 20th.

“Inauguration Day is a day of celebration for America. Today, I ordered flags raised to full-staff at the Texas Capitol & state buildings for President Trump’s inauguration,” Abbott wrote in an X post.

“While we honor President Carter’s service, we also celebrate an incoming President & our bright future,” he added.

Former President Carter passed away on December 29th at his Georgia estate, prompting Biden to declare that “the flag of the United States be displayed at half-staff at the White House and on all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its territories and possessions for a period of 30 days from the day of his death.”

The federal order from Biden marks the first time that American flags have been flown at half-staff during Inauguration Day, prompting criticism from Trump.

“The Democrats are all ‘giddy’ over our magnificent American Flag potentially being at ‘half mast’ during my Inauguration,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. “They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves.”

“Look at what they’ve done to our once GREAT America over the past four years – it’s a total mess! In any event, because of the death of President Jimmy Carter, the Flag may, for the first time ever during an Inauguration of a future President, be at half mast. Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it. Let’s see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump added.

In response, White House Press Secretary Jean-Pierre firmly stated “no,” when asked if Biden would reconsider flying the flags at half-staff on Inauguration Day.
