Attorney General Pam Bondi announced a “major blow” to two Mexican drug cartels after the Coast Guard seized over $500 million in cocaine — amounting to over 45,000 pounds.
Bondi revealed that the seizure took place on Wednesday, after two Coast Guard cutters intercepted approximately $509 million dollars worth of cocaine from smuggling boats near Ecuador, Peru, and the Galápagos Islands.
“We have saved thousands and thousands of lives as a result of this incredible cooperation,” Bondi stated at Port Everglades in Florida, alongside FBI Director Kash Patel.
Bondi also revealed that the illicit drugs were tied to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and the Sinaloa cartel, noting that 11 individuals were arrested in the operation.
She continued, stating that the Coast Guard utilized “drones, aircraft, and ships to interdict the traffickers” in the operation.

FBI Director Kash Patel also spoke at the press conference. He issued a warning to other foreign drug cartels who continue their ongoing drug smuggling and drug trafficking operations.
“We are going to dismantle the ‘next-man-up’ theory that has been breeding these Mexican cartels for generations,” Patel asserted. “No more.”
The U.S. Coast Guard revealed that their efforts in finding the large stash took around eleven days, describing the process of locating the drug traffickers in the patrol area as “finding a needle in a haystack.”
The interagency effort led by the Coast Guard was also assisted by the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Over 130,073 pounds (59 metric tons) of narcotics have been seized since just February, according to U.S. Coast Guard Vice Adm. Nathan Moore.

A Mexican man was arrested trying to smuggle 11,100 rounds of 7.62×39 into the United States from Mexico.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers working at the El Paso port of entry stopped a 2011 Honda Ridgeline driven by a 32-year-old Mexican national as it crossed the Bridge of the Americas (BOTA) international crossing. At the primary screening checkpoint, CBP officers decided to direct the Honda Ridgeline to a secondary screening station, where officers ran the SUV through a low-energy portal scan. It identified possible anomalies hidden in the Mexican vehicle. Last year, the machine was put into service to help identify vehicles trying to smuggle contraband into the country over the Bota international crossing.
After the system showed possible anomalies, a CBP currency and firearms detection canine searched the vehicle and alerted agents to possible hidden contraband. After CBP agents saw a trained detection dog detect something in the vehicle, the CBP officers ran the SUV through a Z-Portal X-ray scanner. A scan showed something hidden in the quarter panel of the Honda Ridgeline.
Usually, the contraband being smuggled into the country from Mexico is drugs, but this time, the Mexican man was not smuggling any illicit substances. The officers would tear apart the vehicle, where they would recover multiple bags containing 11,100 loose 7.62×39 rounds. These rounds are used in such firearms as AK-pattern rifles. Recovering this amount of ammo being smuggled into the country is highly unusual.
“The volume of this seizure is substantial,” said CBP El Paso Director of Field Operations Hector Mancha. “To put this in perspective, CBP officers working in the El Paso area ports seized 15,678 rounds of ammunition in all of fiscal year 2021, 7,224 rounds in fiscal year 2022, and 11,205 rounds in fiscal year 2023.”
The flow of drugs usually runs from Mexico into the United States across the Southern Border. Ammunition, cash, and firearms generally flow south from the United States into Mexico. Last August, CBP officers working the same crossing seized 93,000 rounds of ammunition being smuggled into Mexico for drug cartels to terrorize the United States’ southern neighbor.
CBP officials are withholding the arrested man’s identity and information about who he was working for at this time. However, many assume his employer was one of the many Mexican-based drug cartels. The man was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and will be federally prosecuted for smuggling goods into the United States.
President-elect Trump has promised to fix the border and crack down on smuggling. One of the ideas being floated by the Trump transition team is to designate Mexican drug cartels as narco-terrorist organizations. The change in designation would take the gloves off, allowing the United States to use military assets to fight back against the brutal cartels.
This week, President Trump appointed Tom Homan as the border czar for his administration.
Every clip I see of Tom Homan in hearings and interviews makes me love this man more. Easily the best pick I’ve seen so far for any appointment. pic.twitter.com/7AXB1VktuN

Mr. Homan is the former Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and is a hardliner regarding border security. He believes the southern border is too open and pushes for a zero-tolerance policy for illegal crossings. He rose to fame after a legendary exchange with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) over separating families caught trying to enter the country illegally.
Whether President Trump’s changes will make a difference remains to be seen, but until Trump takes office, many expected border crossings to spike.

The Los Angeles Police Department seized over 50 pounds of fentanyl, as well as nine pounds of black tar heroin and $14,500 in south Los Angeles this week, equating to over 4 million dollars in worth, the police announced.
The drug bust took place on October 16th, involving the LAPD’s Narcotics and Gang Impact Team.
A 28-year-old man named Jose Alberto Soto was arrested on suspicion of selling fentanyl, which led officers to obtain a search warrant, where they discovered the massive amount of fentanyl he was hiding.
Following the seizure, the LAPD released a statement recounting the events.
“the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Area Narcotics Enforcement Detail 9NED), assisted by Rampart Area Narcotics Enforcement Detail and the Central Area Gang Impact Team (GIT), conducted an undercover narcotics investigation near Downtown Los Angeles which resulted in the arrest of one Los Angeles resident for Sales of Fentanyl,” the statement began.
The search warrant prompted officers to arrive at the 7500 block of Central Avenue in South Los Angeles, where they discovered massive amounts of fentanyl, in addition to heroin and cash. The confiscated drugs and cash was estimated to be $4 million in street value, according to the Drug Enforcement Agency.
Authorities highlighted that only 2 milligrams of fentanyl could be a potentially lethal dose, meaning the 50 pounds of seized fentanyl could kill over 11 million people, or nearly three times the population of Los Angeles.
“According to current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) estimates for the Los Angeles Area, this seizure represents over $4,000,000 in street value. Assuming a 2mg lethal dose, this seized fentanyl could potentially kill over 11,000,000 people,” the statement continued.
According to jail records, Soto remains in custody without the opportunity for bail.
According to the Centers For Disease Control’s (CDC) national statistics, there were 107,543 deaths resulting from a drug overdose in 2023, with the “vast majority of those” deaths attributed to fentanyl specifically.

In a shocking 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court dealt a devastating blow to property rights, ruling that police are not required to hold prompt hearings when seizing cars and other assets, even from innocent owners. The case, involving two Alabama women whose cars were taken in drug-related incidents, highlights the glaring injustices within the civil forfeiture system. Despite the property belonging to individuals not accused of any wrongdoing, the owners were forced to wait over a year for the return of their vehicles. The ruling leaves countless Americans vulnerable to abuse, as law enforcement agencies can now seize and hold property indefinitely without any initial judicial oversight. In a scathing dissent, Justice Sonia Sotomayor warned of the potential for abuse, as police departments often have a financial incentive to retain seized assets. The decision has sparked outrage among civil liberties advocates, who argue that it undermines due process and property rights enshrined in the Constitution. As the practice of civil forfeiture continues to grow, the need for legal reform and increased protections for innocent property owners has never been more urgent. The Supreme Court ruling serves as a wake-up call for all Americans concerned about the erosion of their fundamental rights.
