Tlaib Vote Shows That the Barbarians Aren’t At the Gates; They’re in Congress

One of the most open-and-shut issues in the history of the United States came before Congress Wednesday, and any decent human being had every reason to expect that the vote on it was unanimous. One of the wise solons present, however, decided, no doubt after a sober period of soul-searching, to have her vote simply record the bare fact that she was present and not her affirmation or rejection of the issue at hand. That righteous and thoughtful lawmaker was Rashida Tlaib (D-Ramallah), and the issue at hand was a condemnation of Hamas for the rape of captive Israeli women.

If you’re wondering how anyone in his or her right mind could have any hesitation about condemning savage mass rapes, it’s only because you haven’t been overcome by the Jew-hatred that has since Oct. 7 become fashionable among leftists and that has for decades been deeply rooted among the supporters of the Palestinian jihad against Israel. The winsome and patriotic Tlaib is, of course, both a deeply committed leftist and a supporter of the Palestinian jihad, so her vote was no real surprise. Still, it sends a chill down the spine to realize that the barbarians aren’t at the gates; they’re in Congress.

Jewish News Syndicate (JNS) reported Wednesday that the House “voted unanimously, 418-0, to condemn Hamas terrorists for rape and sexual violence on Oct. 7.” Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Fla.), who introduced the bill, H.Res.966, noted that “on Oct. 7, Hamas terrorists attacked Israel, mercilessly killing 1,200 people; raping, mutilating, burning and assaulting their victims to inflict physical and psychological pain, unleashing trauma that continues to plague a grieving Israel. The brutality was planned and calculated.” No fair-minded person could disagree, and so Frankel’s resolution gained co-sponsors from the other side of the aisle, including Reps. Mario Díaz-Balart (R-Fla.) and Jen Kiggans (R-Va.).

JNS noted that H.Res.966 “condemns all rape and sexual violence ‘as weapons of war,’ including those Hamas committed on and after Oct. 7; calls on all countries to criminalize rape and sexual assault and hold both state and non-state armed groups accountable for such attacks; and tells international groups to ‘unequivocally condemn the barbaric murder, rape, sexual assault and kidnapping by Hamas and other terrorists on and since Oct. 7 and hold accountable all perpetrators.’”

It affirmed U.S. “support for independent, impartial investigations of rape and sexual violence committed by Hamas on and since Oct. 7” and reaffirmed a “commitment to supporting survivors of rape and sexual violence, including those brutalized on and since Oct. 7.” Who could object? Rashida Tlaib.

Frankel, clearly aware that some among her fellow leftists sided with Hamas despite its barbarity, added, “Sadly, Hamas’s savagery has been met with a shrug—and even denial—from many corners of the world. Our resolution loudly and clearly condemns all rape and forms of sexual violence as weapons of war, including those acts committed by Hamas terrorists on and since Oct. 7.” One of those who was ready with a shrug and denial was Tlaib, who stood out as the lone member of the House of Representatives who could not bring herself to condemn Hamas’ rapes and so voted “present.”

Tlaib apparently calculated that a "yes" vote on this resolution might be seen as a condemnation of Hamas and its jihad against Israel, and unlike her colleague among The Squad, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-Swizzle Stick), Tlaib couldn’t bring herself to go on record in such a manner. Another Squad member, the Somalia-First Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Mogadishu) likewise registered her dissent but in a less immediately obvious way: she simply didn’t vote at all.

How could either Tlaib or Omar think that this bill was even remotely controversial? The answer to that is clear: their hatred of Israel is so intense that they just don’t have any problem with what Hamas did on Oct. 7, and they don’t want to alienate the hordes of anti-Israel demonstrators across the country who have been increasingly open about their unhesitating support for the jihad terror group.

In this, Tlaib and Omar represent a further coarsening and degeneration of an already degraded American body politic. Mass migration, the anti-assimilation ethos among the migrants and their supporters, and the left’s war against patriotism have brought an unprecedented ugliness into American politics, as the standards of civility and of civilization itself that endured for over two centuries have been eroded under the heavy pressure of multiculturalism, anti-white racism, revisionist history, and far-left agitprop.

Now we have elected representatives in Congress who can’t bring themselves to condemn rape. And it’s going to get worse.

Tlaib refuses to condemn Hamas for rape of Israeli women

The barbarians aren’t at the gates. They’re in Congress. But Tlaib can’t condemn Hamas’ behavior because she supports Hamas, and because the sexual use of infidel women is allowed in the Qur’an (4:3, 4:24, 23:1-6, 33:50, 70:30).

“Tlaib ‘present,’ as House votes unanimously to condemn Hamas for rape,” by Menachem Wecker, JNS, February 14, 2024:

The U.S. House of Representatives voted unanimously, 418-0, to condemn Hamas terrorists for rape and sexual violence on Oct. 7.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), a progressive member of the “Squad” who has a long history of antisemitic comments, voted “present,” as the House passed H.Res.966 on Wednesday.

“The brutality was planned and calculated,” Frankel added. “Sadly, Hamas’s savagery has been met with a shrug—and even denial—from many corners of the world. Our resolution loudly and clearly condemns all rape and forms of sexual violence as weapons of war, including those acts committed by Hamas terrorists on and since Oct. 7.”

Frankel introduced the resolution, which received 200 co-sponsors from both sides of the aisle, with Reps. Mario Díaz-Balart (R-Fla.), Kathy Manning (D-N.C.) and Jen Kiggans (R-Va.).

The resolution condemns all rape and sexual violence “as weapons of war,” including those Hamas committed on and after Oct. 7; calls on all countries to criminalize rape and sexual assault and hold both state and non-state armed groups accountable for such attacks; and tells international groups to “unequivocally condemn the barbaric murder, rape, sexual assault and kidnapping by Hamas and other terrorists on and since Oct. 7 and hold accountable all perpetrators.”

It also reaffirms the U.S. government’s “support for independent, impartial investigations of rape and sexual violence committed by Hamas on and since Oct. 7” and “reaffirms its commitment to supporting survivors of rape and sexual violence, including those brutalized on and since Oct. 7.”…

Tlaib and CAIR’s Awad Threaten Biden Where It Hurts: No Votes for You Without Ceasefire

Gerald Herbert
The longstanding leftist/Islamic alliance has never seen this much strain. Will it be enough to bring down the Biden regime and Democrat Party hegemony? It’s possible.

As enraged pro-Hamas demonstrators tried on Saturday to break down the gate surrounding the White House and storm the grounds, high-profile Muslim leaders warned Old Joe and his henchmen that they couldn’t count on the support of haters of Israel unless the Biden regime forced the Jewish state to accept a ceasefire. A ceasefire may seem like a reasonable request at first glance, which is why the pro-Hamas forces are couching their demands in this language, but if Israel stopped fighting short of its goal to destroy Hamas utterly, it would essentially amount to a surrender to Hamas and other jihad groups. They would live again to massacre more Israeli civilians another day.

And so Ibrahim Hooper of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a longtime master at manipulating public opinion, professed at the Washington demonstration to be motivated solely by humanitarian concerns: "The main goal of everyone right now is a cease-fire," the old dissembler said, adding: "You can't do anything without a cease-fire − you can't do humanitarian aid, you can't treat the wounded, you can't even remove bodies until there's a cease-fire. Nothing should get in the way of a humanitarian cease-fire." Nothing! Not even Israel’s self-defense and fight for its own survival.

Playing bad cop to Hooper’s good cop was his CAIR colleague, Nihad Awad, the co-founder and longtime national executive director of the unsavory organization. While Hooper talked humanitarianism, Awad was ready to hit Old Joe where it hurts and make sure that the addled corruptocrat understood exactly what was happening: "The language that President Biden and his party understand,” Awad thundered, “is the language of votes in the 2023 elections and our message is: No cease-fire, no votes."

Awad couldn’t have made his point more clearly if he had been in a plane, skywriting over the White House. He added: "No votes in Michigan, no votes in Arizona, no votes in Georgia, no votes in Nevada, no votes in Wisconsin, no votes in Pennsylvania." These were, of course, the states that allowed Old Joe to pretend to be president over the last three years. But not this time. Awad concluded: "No votes for you anywhere if you don’t call for a cease-fire now."

Awad was echoing the ever-winsome Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Ramallah), who asserted on Friday that “Joe Biden supported the genocide of the Palestinian people." Oh, you missed the genocide of the Palestinian people? That’s only because it never happened. The Palestinian people numbered close to two million in 1990, and they number over five today. That’s a 155% growth rate over thirty-two years, making Israel’s genocide of the Palestinians one of the most remarkably inefficient such operations in human history. Nonetheless, Tlaib, like the good leftist that she is, doubled down on her lie, adding: "The American people won’t forget. Biden, support a cease-fire now. Or don’t count on us in 2024.”

Meanwhile, Meredith Weisel of the hard-left Anti-Defamation League offered a lamentably weak response, saying of the Washington demonstration: "There was zero acknowledgment of Israeli suffering and a lot of legitimizing and justification for violence against Israelis. Surely there are people there today who are responding to the humanitarian crisis. But most of the people we have seen on the stage have been justifying what happened on Oct. 7."

Not much better can be expected from the thoroughly compromised ADL, but Weisel missed the opportunity to point out that there actually was no “humanitarian crisis” in Gaza. While Hamas has been claiming that Gaza is on the brink of mass starvation, Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) issued a report Saturday that noted that “food reserves are sufficient for the near term. There is no food shortage. International organizations are permitted to bring food aid into the Gaza Strip.” Why trust Israel and not Hamas? Hamas has been shown repeatedly to be lying recently, most notoriously in claiming Israel hit a hospital and killed 500 people when it turned out that Palestinian Islamic Jihad hit a hospital parking lot with an errant rocket and killed ten people. Meanwhile, what Israel has stated about the conflict has been accurate.

In any case, Old Joe and the Democrats are now caught between a rock and a hard place. If they abandon Israel utterly, they risk losing the votes of Jews and supporters of Israel, who still generally deny the evidence of their senses and vote Democrat. If, however, they continue to offer the weak support to Israel they’ve given so far, Tlaib and Awad will make good on their threats. The leftist/Islamic bloc, however, is caught between a rock and a hard place as well. If they don’t vote for Old Joe, for whom will they vote? The most pro-Israel president in history? How this game of chicken will play out is anybody’s guess.
