Federal Judge Approves Class Action Settlement Over Mandatory “Quiet Time” Indoctrination

(May 13, 2025 – Chicago) — The Chicago Board of Education and the New York-based David Lynch Foundation will pay out $2.6 million to former Chicago Public Schools high school students over forced Transcendental Meditation indoctrination. On May 13, 2025, Judge Matthew Kennelly of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois approved the class action settlement.

The funds will be distributed among 773 individuals who, while students at Chicago public high schools, were either required to participate in Transcendental Meditation as part of their in-school curriculum or were deprived daily of a half-hour of academic instruction and required to maintain silence while their classmates focused their minds on secret mantras.

The Chicago Board of Education partnered with the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace, which was founded by filmmaker David Lynch to fund Transcendental Meditation instruction in schools. Though presented as a nonreligious exercise, Transcendental Meditation is rooted in Hinduism. The Hindu American Foundation describes the practice as “wholly and unequivocally Hindu.”

The schools’ compulsory participation violated students’ rights and even included nondisclosure agreements. At least one student shared how she and a classmate were instructed not to tell anyone—including their parents—about the program. A representative from the David Lynch Foundation allegedly warned them specifically not to inform religious parents.

Attorney John Mauck of Mauck & Baker represented the student class, along with court-appointed lead plaintiff Kaya Hudgins.

“This settlement vindicates the concerns of former students and parents that the initiation ceremony and daily meditation regime were effectively demonic invocations and thus violated the Establishment Clause of the Constitution,” stated Mauck. “We hope this settlement will deter those who exploit young people and that it will encourage the Chicago Board of Education to be wary of harming students by allowing wolves to prey on the sheep they are obligated to protect.”

Hudgins, now 22 years old, was the lead plaintiff in the class action lawsuit. She recounted that, at age 16, she was forced to take part in the program called “Quiet Time.” Her participation was mandatory, despite any personal objections. She described how, despite its innocuous title, the program included a private one-on-one Hindu “Puja” worship ceremony in a darkened room, chanting, religious paraphernalia, and secret mantras that were actually the names of Hindu gods.

“I was just a teenager when I was pressured into a program I didn’t understand and wasn’t allowed to question,” said Kaya Hudgins. “No student should ever be forced into a religious practice against their will—especially not in a public school. This settlement is a step toward accountability and a reminder that our constitutional rights don’t stop at the classroom door.”

Hudgins’ attorneys petitioned the court for class action status, which was granted on April 19, 2024, for all students who participated in the Quiet Time program in Chicago Public Schools during the academic years from Fall 2015 through Spring 2019 and who reached age eighteen on or after January 13, 2021.

In a similar case, former Chicago Public Schools student Mariyah Green, also represented by Mauck & Baker, was awarded $150,000 in damages and legal fees by Illinois Circuit Court on October 23, 2023. The court found that the Board of Education of the City of Chicago and the David Lynch Foundation had violated her constitutional rights by requiring participation in Hindu rituals under the guise of a public-school program. Green’s complaint was filed in February 2023.

Mayor Johnson Terrorizes Chicago to Protect Illegal Alien Criminals

While Mayor Brandon Johnson showed up to defend Chicago’s sanctuary city policies before Congress, federal immigration authorities were expelling Prince Knox, a ‘refugee’ affiliated with the Revolutionary United Front, which chopped off the arms of tens of thousands of people with machetes to take over and provide them with free health care, back to his native Sierra Leone.

Prince Knox was one of the many illegal aliens, criminals and assorted monsters protected by Chicago’s ‘Welcoming City’ ordinance and the Illinois Trust Act which forms its sanctuary system.

Chicago’s sheltering of illegal alien criminals has forced ICE to carry out ‘raids’ to get them.

The media has been running alarmist articles such as NPR’s claim that “migrants in Chicago are skipping health checks due to immigration crackdown fears”, and claims in other media outlets that illegal aliens are too afraid to shop, go to church or send their children to school.

The only reason for ICE’s raids is Chicago’s refusal to hand over illegal alien criminals.

Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling admitted, “there’s no need to be afraid to show up to work. There’s no need to be afraid to go to school. We have not seen federal agents running through Chicago looking for children, going to work locations and grabbing people.”

A “climate of fear” is being spread by Johnson and his political allies, as well as the media, which is covering up the fact that ICE is arresting gang members and dangerous criminals. Their goal is to use fear to build up opposition to ICE’s arrests of the ‘worst of the worst’.

Ever since Trump took office, there’s been a civil war in Chicago between ICE immigration authorities who have arrested hundreds of illegal alien criminals and Mayor Johnson, the Chicago City Council and their political allies who are conspiring to block those arrests.

Pro-illegal alien activists track the movements of undercover federal immigration enforcement personnel to sabotage their operations and tip off their targets. Rep. Delia Ramirez, a member of the Homeland Security Committee in Congress, described ICE enforcement as “these acts of terror and intimidation” and urged pro-illegals, “if you see ICE activity, potentially in unmarked vehicles, we encourage you to report that to our local immigration rights organizations.”

Mayor Johnson similarly described the federal government’s renewed commitment to immigration enforcement as “acts of terror to radically shift our way of life.”

In D.C., he told Congress that he was “building a Chicago that embodies the dream of my father.” Brandon’s dad had apparently envisioned a city overrun by illegal alien gangs like Tren de Aragua taking over apartment buildings even in Chicago’s ultra-violent South Side.

“Chicago’s Welcoming City ordinance and our other laws and policies do not lead to more crime, they do not prevent cooperation with federal law enforcement on criminal matters, and we do not harbor criminals,” Johnson falsely told Congress. Former Mayor Lori Lightfoot helped tighten the Welcoming City sanctuary city ordinance to protect criminals who had been arrested.

Two Latino City Council members tried to roll back the extreme sanctuary city arrangement. ICE had offered to stop immigration raids if Chicago law enforcement were allowed to turn over criminals directly to it. The proposal by Alds. Raymond Lopez and Silvana Tabares failed by 11 to 39. Johnson led the campaign against it bragging that he would continue to defy the law “to stand by and protect Chicago’s immigrant communities against threats from ICE.”

Johnson and Chicago authorities complain about ICE raids, claiming that immigration authorities are targeting schools and churches, and have resorted to outright lies to spread fear.

“Earlier today, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents showed up at Hamline Elementary School,” Chief Education Officer Bogdana Chkoumbova said at a press conference. “School staff followed CPS established protocols. They kept ICE agents outside of the school and contacted CPS law department and CPS Office of Safety and Security for further guidance. ICE agents were not allowed into the school and were not permitted to speak to any students or staff members. Here is the bottom line, our students and staff are safe.”

Chicago school staff weren’t interfering with ICE personnel, but with Secret Service agents who were investigating death threats being sent over the proposed TikTok ban.

Chicago Public Schools head Pedro Martinez kept up the lie on MSNBC, falsely stating that the Secret Service “presented credentials and shared that they were from ICE.”

Why did top Chicago education officials lie? To spread fear and build up opposition to immigration enforcement by frightening students and parents as they had done from the very beginning with an email offering “mental health resources available at every CPS school to help students who may be feeling concern and anxiety about the incoming administration”.

“Every violent crime is devastating, but scapegoating entire communities is not only misleading, it is unjust, and it is beneath us,” Johnson argued.

The ‘communities’ in question are illegal alien criminals and international gangs.

ICE isn’t terrorizing anyone. Mayor Brandon Johnson is using terror to protect the sanctuary city system. Johnson and other Chicago politicians know that ICE is only coming for illegal alien criminals. He isn’t protecting “families” or “communities”, but murderers, rapists, terrorists and child molesters. And he’s protecting them by forcing ICE to carry out immigration raids so that he can claim that the deportation of criminals is “terrorizing” Chicago’s Latino communities.

Because Johnson wasn’t protecting immigrants or even illegals, he was protecting criminals.

In D.C., Johnson claimed that everything was going well and crime was down in Chicago, but, Chicago authorities are once again rigging crime statistics by not recording crimes, not making arrests and not solving crimes. Johnson shut down ShotSpotter, which helped detect homicides. And only 1 in 7 violent crimes ended in an arrest. Chicago authorities now claim to have cleared 60% of murders. Last year they claimed to have a clearance race of 54%, but the actual clearance rate for murders that ended in an arrest was only 23%. Or less than 1 in 4 murders.

Despite Johnson’s claim that crime is down, there have already been 77 murders this year.

Mayor Johnson, whose love for illegal aliens is only exceeded by his love for criminals, has turned Chicago into a sanctuary city for criminals where most murders are filed as unprosecutable.

And the illegal alien criminals who commit them are treated as undeportable.

A sanctuary city for illegal alien criminals is a deeply unsafe place for everyone else.  A third of Chicagoans are worried about migrant crime, and 1 in 5 say their children are now unsafe in school because of mass migration. But there’s no sanctuary for Americans in Chicago.

In Congress, Mayor Brandon Johnson, whose approval rating is at 6%, defended his pro-illegal alien criminal policies by claiming, “I was elected to represent the people of Chicago and that’s what I do”, but a majority of Chicago residents want less immigration; only 20% want more.

According to Johnson, around 1% of the city budget now goes toward illegal alien migrants.

While 80% of Chicago residents are sick and tired of Johnson, illegal alien criminals love him. In Cook County, that 1 percent votes earlier and more often than most Americans do.

In Marxist ideology, an “army” is required to impose (by force) classic feudalistic dogma upon innocent citizens. It’s the strategy ever employed by Lenin, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao, and many others among the beasts of history.

For our current gaggle of “vain and ambitious” Democrat/Deep State politicians, violent criminals, illegal aliens, and terrorists serve as their “soldiers.” That’s why depraved criminals are ever protected, defended, armed, empowered, and apologized for by Democrats.

Simultaneously, innocent victims of these “Marxist soldiers” (decent, productive, law-abiding, tax-paying legal American citizens of all races) must be kept weak (disarmed), dependent, fearful, confused, and uninformed.

The foregoing represents a critical strategy for Democrats as our election season approaches.

Their “Criminal Army” has been deliberately created, assembled, and armed via “restorative justice,” “bail reform,” and open borders.

Falling right in line, Cook County’s (Chicago) current state's attorney is doing her best to place illegal guns in the hands of violent criminals. Her excuse is that arresting “People of Color” for felony violations of state and federal guns laws “disproportionally penalizes them.”

After all, certain criminals are “special” and are accordingly made exempt from laws the rest of us are required to obey.

Their innocent (and unarmed) victims thus enjoy no protection!

Example:

Last Tuesday evening, a couple was walking together in a Chicago neighborhood. The woman was pregnant.

A group of young thugs (a dozen or more) precipitously attacked them for no apparent reason. The two victims were punched and kicked repeatedly, and also drenched with pepper spray, until they were both on the pavement, and then both were kicked and stomped again repeatedly.

As a result, the woman’s unborn child died (a fact the leftist media, little more than a branch of the DNC, tried to keep secret).

As these thugs savagely beat this innocent man and his wife, they yelled, “We own the streets.”

And, they’re mostly right! Under our present leftist-weaponized “criminal justice system,” they do effectively “own the streets,” all by design.

Police eventually arrived, and the gaggle of thugs casually scattered. Two thugs were arrested at the scene, both teenagers, but were released almost immediately.

Of course, they’re smugly confident that they’re “protected and will suffer no penalty!” Which should include the charge of Murder.

Lessons:

  • 1) This dreadful situation that currently plagues all our metro areas will not “turn-around” any time soon, no matter who gets elected in November. So much damage has been done to this civilization by the BHO and JRB Administrations, we may never enjoy a decent, orderly, productive, and safe society again.
  • 2) “Avoidance” still represents the best personal strategy. We’re all familiar with the increasing threat. Adjust personal habits/preferences accordingly. A fight avoided is better, by far, than a fight “won!”
  • 3) Pretending to ignore violent criminals who are actively stalking/assaulting you (by not making eye-contact, walking away, etc) provides scant protection, as we see.
  • 4) Dropping to the ground also provides scant protection. You’ll just be kicked and stomped, maybe to death!
  • 5) When you have no choice but to employ deadly force in order to preserve your life and health, employ it with deliberation and precision, and always have the means immediately available!

CHICAGO — About 300 anti-war activists crowded into the basement of the Teamsters Union’s headquarters on Saturday to hear organizers from all over the country describe their plans to disrupt the Democratic National Convention this August. Joe Biden’s backing of Israel since Hamas’s October 7 attack has turned these left-wing radicals against their own party.

“It’s really inspiring to see that people are just as enthusiastic, and maybe even more enthusiastic, to march on the DNC as they are to march on the RNC,” says Omar Flores, a Milwaukee-based activist. “We can thank Genocide Joe and our movement for that.”

But then a man stumbles to the podium, wiping sweat from his forehead. He grabbed the microphone to announce that Iran's Islamic regime of Iran had launched missiles and drones heading straight toward Israel.

“They believe that they will be in Palestinian—I don’t call it Israeli—airspace between two and four a.m., which means about two to four hours from now,” he says. “In addition, there are reports of drones having been fired on Israel from Yemen and Iraq.”

The crowd, all wearing black N95s, erupts into applause. Someone in the back lowers their mask to send a celebratory whistle soaring throughout the room.

The man at the podium, Hatem Abudayyeh, heads the U.S. Palestinian Community Network, “a purported community group which, on information and belief, is an affiliate of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a designated terror organization based in Gaza,” according to a lawsuit over the alleged relations between U.S. advocacy groups and Hamas.

“This is when this country and the world needs us because the United States is going to, quote unquote, defend the criminal Israeli state,” says Abudayyeh, whose home was raided by the FBI in 2010 as part of an investigation “concerning the material support of terrorism.”…

Earlier that day, before the news of the attack broke, at a “breakout session” on “the anti-war movement,” Shabbir Rizvi, an organizer with Anti-War Committee Chicago, taught participants how to chant “death to Israel” and “death to America” in Farsi.

“Marg bar Israel,” he chanted, leading a group of about 80 attendees along with him. A man draped in a Soviet flag bearing a gold hammer and sickle clapped his hands.

A man in a full black denim outfit shouted out from behind his N95—“Can we get a ‘marg bar America’?”
