IDF: Body Initially Thought To Be Hostage Shiri Bibas Is Not Her, Sons’ Remains Positively Identified

Hamas is due to hand over the bodies of four hostages on February 20, including those of the Bibas family, who have become symbols of the hostage crisis that has gripped Israel since the Gaza war broke out. The transfer of the bodies is the first such handover of remains by Hamas since its October 7, 2023 attack on Israel triggered the war. (Photo by AFP) (Photo by -/AFP via Getty Images)

Following a forensic investigation, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the body believed to be that of Shiri Bibas, a Hamas hostage, is not hers — nor the body of any other hostage taken by the Hamas.

Meanwhile, the remains of her two sons, the youngest victims kidnapped by the Islamist terrorist group, have in fact been positively identified.

Specialists at Abu Kabir who identified the remains noted that through their forensic evidence, Israel’s intelligence agency believes that the young children were “brutally murdered” by the terrorists in November 2023.

Shiri’s eldest son, Ariel, was only 4-years-old, while her other son, Kfir, was just 10-months-old at the time of their deaths.

“This is a very serious violation by the Hamas terrorist organization, which is required by the agreement to return the four dead hostages,” says the IDF. “We demand that Hamas return Shiri home along with all of our hostages.”

“We share the deep sorrow of the Bibas family at this difficult time and will continue to make every effort to return Shiri and all the hostages home as soon as possible,” the IDF continued.

The news comes hours after the bodies of Shiri, Ariel, Kfir and Oded Lifshitz, 84, were released back to Israel as part of a hostage swap.

“38 Israeli families mourn while Hamas holds their loved ones’ remains,” by Amelie Botbol, JNS, May 9, 2024 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

Families of deceased hostages whose bodies are still being held by Hamas in Gaza carried an empty coffin through Jerusalem on Thursday to raise awareness of their plight and call for the return of their loved ones.

“I am attending this rally because we, the families of deceased hostages, are a unique group,” Ruby Chen, the father of American-Israeli dual citizen Sgt. Itay Chen, 19, told JNS on Thursday.

Itay, from Netanyahu, was stationed at the Nahal Oz army base as part of a tank unit when he was captured along with three other soldiers on Oct. 7. He was one of six hostages with U.S. citizenship thought to have still been alive in Gaza. The Israeli Defense Forces declared him dead on March 12.

“We decided to organize an alternative service to highlight the fact that the State of Israel must do everything it can to bring all the hostages back, both the living and the deceased,” Ruby Chen said.

Hundreds of new families will be mourning Yom Hazikaron: Memorial Day for Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism, though some will not have anywhere to pay their respects.

“We do not have a burial site. If you ask me where I will be going on Monday, I can tell that I don’t have a good answer,” Chen told JNS. He will also be attending Saturday’s rally at Tel Aviv’s “Hostage Square,” which this week will focus on those declared dead in Gaza.

“I am calling on the people of Israel to join us. "I am asking leaders and people worldwide to pray with us regardless of their religion so that we will be able to have closure and that our deceased will be buried in dignity,” Chen said.

According to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, 38 families in Israel will be mourning while the remains of their loved ones are still held by Hamas in Gaza….

Mother of Israeli woman killed by Hamas slams AP for giving award for photo of jihadis with her body

If Shani Louk had been anything but Israeli, the AP would not have given the photo any award.

“Hamas victim Shani Louk’s grief-stricken mother reveals how an award given for a photo of tattoo artist’s naked and mutilated body being paraded by terrorists forces her family to relive her murder on October 7,” by Dan Grennan, Daily Mail, April 7, 2024

The grief-stricken mother of Hamas victim Shani Louk has revealed how an award given for a photo of her daughter’s half-naked and mutilated body forced her family to relive the trauma of her murder.

The 22-year-old German-Israeli was one of 364 people killed at the SuperNova Festival, which she was attending with her boyfriend, in the October 7 attacks.

The picture shows four Hamas militants celebrating as they brandish a rocket launcher and guns while sitting on top of Shani Louk’s body, which is lying face down in the back of a pickup truck.

The photo, taken by freelance photographer Ali Mahmud, was the centerpiece of the submission that won photo agency AP the Team Picture Story of the Year category from the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism.

Now Shani’s mother, Ricarda, has revealed the award has forced her family to relive the trauma of her daughter’s murder.

She told the Telegraph: ‘[It is] ‘traumatic for all of us. Just try to imagine seeing your beloved girl lying half-naked and lifeless on the truck with those savages around her.’

The tattoo artist was still wearing the clubbing outfit she had on while attending the music festival in the picture.

Separate footage recorded in the hours after the photo was taken shows her body being paraded around the streets of Gaza, with some passers-by spitting on her.

‘Seeing those pictures again because of the contest makes our family relive the pain,’ said Ms Louk.

The 53-year-old added that her family were not told in advance that the photo was being put forward for an award, which she said ‘made me angry’.

The fact they celebrated this photo with a prize makes us hurt even more because really, it’s like celebrating that they were killed.

I mean, the whole massacre is celebrated. It’s not by chance that they chose this picture so it hurts us even more….
