Visualization   
A number of years ago Karen Mains pretty much torpedoed the ministry of Chapel of the Air, her own ministry, and that of David, her husband, when she wrote Lonely No More. In that book she chronicled her journey into Jungian psychology, visualization and the occult. She of course denied any involvement with the occult, but judge for yourself. Mains describes dreams about her “male-self,” a man she called Eddie Bishop. “He was tall … well formed and trim, somewhere in his early thirties … His fine, dark hair fell in a thick lock across his forehead … his blue-gray eyes looking earnestly into mine.” The details of his communication are specific: “‘You are everything I have ever wanted spiritually,’ he said before I [in the dream] started to drive away.” Mains claims that this experience has taken place “six or eight times a year for the last four or five years.”[7] and has had a “positively profound effect” on her, compelling her to seek psychospiritual counsel. A later session with her “spiritual director” at Cenacle, a Catholic contemplative retreat center, Mains tells of a drastic change in the entity which has been appearing in her mind. She describes an “idiot-child sitting at a table with other people. Its head totally bald and lolled to one side. It was drooling and seemed to be six, seven or eight years of age…. It was so emaciated and malnourished…. He turned his sad, huge eyes on me and smiled sweetly…. This is my idiot-child, the idiot-self of my self.”[8] Her “spiritual director” has her close her eyes and see the child again. She does so and begins to communicate with the image who surprises them both by revealing that it is the “Christ child.” Mrs. Mains ponders the thought that the young man and the idiot-child are both Jesus Christ who has “been attempting to woo me because an essential part of my identity in Him has been expelled from my adult development.”[9] We find that this “Christ child,” whom she is instructed to always take with her, is her “spiritual authority” which she is “afraid of having” and has “rejected not only [as] a part of myself, but a part of myself that is Christ.[10] While she admits that the psychological concept of the male-within-the-female (and visa versa) was developed by Carl Jung, she has always seen it as scriptural.[11] In her self-analysis of her visualized experiences Mains writes, “Through my hardships I discover there’s a small part of myself that hasn’t grown whole along with the rest of me. It’s been maimed by neglect during years of married life. I call it my “idiot-self.” I’m discovering that this malnourished orphan needs to be nursed and nurtured. I must find the idiot-self creeping about in the infrastructure of my soul….Self of my self, this abandoned child is very much a part of me….I understand that in some way, I, the intuitive, introverted, feeling-proficient female, have become the substitute for [my husband] David’s own female self, his anima, to use the Jungian terminology. He…functions for me as my animus….I have abdicated to my husband my own maleness.”[12]   
The spiritual path that Karen Mains describes in Lonely No More can easily be found in most occult spiritual transformation books.   
An uproar ensued following the publication of Lonely No More and it was immediately removed from the bookshelves and taken out of print, but not before irreparable damage was done. The people of God were just not ready for a heavy dose of visualization and occultic practices at the time. Fast forward a dozen years and the spiritual landscape is different today, and apparently more primed for such techniques. David Seamand, a frequent guest on such programs as “Focus on the Family” has written a number of books advocating “Christian” visualization including, Healing for Damaged Emotions and Healing of Memories.   
Recently, popular author and theologian Gregory Boyd has written a similar book entitledSeeing Is Believing. Seeing Is Believing is a good example of how occultic visualization practices are creeping into evangelicalism. Boyd’s thesis is that “It’s not what we believe intellectually that impacts us; it’s what we experience as real”.[13] Experience is the key word, used literally hundreds of times in this small volume (57 times in the 8 page introduction alone). How does one go about experiencing Jesus? Using 2 Corinthians 3:17-4:6 as his main text, Boyd tells us that imagination, when guided by the Holy Spirit and submitted to the authority of Scripture, is our main receptor to the spiritual world.[14] The problem is that our Western mindset rejects imagination as make believe (pp. 72, 86, 95, 127-128, 134, 205). So it is necessary to reject this worldview and adopt an Eastern, mystical understanding. When this happens we begin to use our imagination to discover the real Jesus.[15]   
The most disturbing part of Boyd’s imaginative prayer methodology is that it evolves into New Age visualization. Boyd does not deny this; his caveat is that his program should not be condemned through guilt by association.[16] By visualization what we mean is that at some point in this process the image imagined (the spirit-guide in New Age mysticism) actually comes alive and begins to act independently of the person (such as happened with Karen Mains). At that point contact has been made with the spirit world in ways clearly condemned by Scripture. For example Boyd gives numerous examples such as this one, “Sometimes as I rest with the Lord he will say something unexpected like, ‘Are you ready for more of my freedom?’” Then Jesus leads him to some memory from his past and reconstructs it. This is not wholesome imagination but the altering of reality and contact with the spirit world (he naively assumes the spirit speaking to him is really Jesus). Boyd maintains that only in this manner can a person grow in his knowledge of Christ and/or have his memories healed.[17]   
John Weldon and John Ankerberg tell us, “Visualization is the use of mental concentration and directed imagery in the attempt to secure particular goals, whether physical, psychological, vocational, educational, or spiritual. Visualization attempts to program the mind to discover inner power and guidance. It is often used as a means to, or in conjunction with, altered states of consciousness (e.g., as produced by meditation), and is frequently used to develop psychic abilities or make contact with spirits.”[18]   
Visualization is being used today not only in the occult but also in New Age medicine in an attempt to manipulate mystical life energies; education to tap the “higher self” and its powers; psychotherapy and the church, to bring about inner healing.   
Visualization must be distinguished from imagination. Healthy imagination is a good and wonderful gift from God, but visualization is something very different. In visualization a person is attempting to either directly alter reality or make contact with the spirit world. Both of these practices are condemned in Scripture. David Hunt distinguishes visualization proper from the nonoccult use of the imagination. He observes:   
The visualization we are concerned with is an ancient witchcraft technique that has been at the heart of shamanism for thousands of years, yet is gaining increasing acceptance in today’s secular world and now more and more within the church. It attempts to use vivid images held in the mind as a means of healing diseases, creating wealth, and otherwise manipulating reality. Strangely enough, a number of Christian leaders teach and practice these same techniques in the name of Christ, without recognizing them for what they are.[19]   
A practitioner of visualization describes it in this manner:   
Programmed visualization…is the deliberate use of the power of your own mind to create your own reality….there is nothing too insignificant or too grand for you to visualize. Our lives are limited by what we see as possible….A basic rule of visualization is: you can use visualization to have whatever you want, but YOU MUST REALLY, REALLY WANT WHAT YOU VISUALIZE (emphases in original).[20]   
Visualization has gained popularity in the Western culture as Eastern mystical thought has invaded and been increasingly accepted. This is true because visualization fits best with a pantheistic worldview that sees humans as divine and creators of their own reality. Visualization is an important technique that supposedly taps the higher self and initiates contact with the ultimate cosmic reality.   
By contrast, the Scriptures do not teach or encourage visualization for the healing of memories, healing of body or soul, or spiritual growth. Rather we are called to be renewed daily by the Holy Spirit, prayer and the Word of God.

“Paul Yonggi Cho, pastor of the world’s largest church in South Korea , borrowing from the occult, has developed what he calls the “Law of Incubation.”  Here is how it works:  “First make a clear-cut goal, then draw a mental picture, vivid and graphic, to visualize success.  Then incubate it into reality, and finally speak it into existence through the creative power of the spoken word.””

VISUALIZATION: The initial step in Osteen’s program is visualization: “The first step to living at your full potential is to enlarge your vision.  To live your best life now, you must start looking at life through eyes of faith, seeing yourself rising to new levels.  See your business taking off.  See your marriage restored.  See your family prospering.  See your dreams coming to pass.  You must conceive it and believe it is possible if you ever hope to experience it” (p. 4, emphasis his).
The reason why visualization is necessary is because it has the power to bring about what you envision. “You will produce what you’re continually seeing in your mind… If you develop an image of victory, success, health, abundance, joy, peace, and happiness, nothing on earth will be able to hold those things from you… Start anticipating promotions and supernatural increase.  You must conceive it in your heart and mind before you can receive it… You must make room for increase in your own thinking, and then God will bring those things to pass” (pp. 5-6).
Apparently even God is at the mercy of that which we visualize; after all, “Thoughts [not God] determine destiny” (p. 101).  “If you don’t think your body can be healed, it never will be… When you think positive, excellent thoughts, you will be propelled toward greatness, inevitably bound for increase, promotion, and God’s supernatural blessings” (p. 104).

  • The church networking and forming common ground with business, secular and governmental agencies, organizations, institutions, etc. in order to further the “kingdom of God” on earth.
  • The church merging its interests and identity with those of Corporate business organizations and Government.
  • Building the 7 Mountains (or the neo-Kuyperian “spheres”)—cultural centers that must be overtaken and ruled by head apostles in the church.
  • The idea of RECONCILIATION rather than repentance – forging common ground with any group that appears to further kingdom goals, building an international community on earth.

Foster encourages the exceedingly dangerous practice of guided imagery and visualization:
“The inner world of meditation is most easily entered through the door of the imagination. We fail to today to appreciate its tremendous power. The imagination is stronger that the conceptual thought and stronger than the will. … In his autobiography C. G. Jung describes how difficult it was for him to humble himself and once again play imagination games of a child, and the value of that experience. Just as children need to learn to think logically, adults need to REDISCOVER THE MAGICAL REALITY OF THE IMAGINATION. … 

“Ignatius of Loyola in his 
Spiritual Exercises constantly encouraged his readers to VISUALIZE THE GOSPEL STORIES. Every contemplation he gave was designed to open the imagination. He even included a meditation entitled ‘application of the senses,’ which is an attempt to help us utilize all five senses as we picture the Gospel events. His thin volume of meditation exercises with its stress on the imagination had tremendous impact for good upon the sixteenth century.’ …

Celebration of Discipline, 1978, pp. 22, 23, 26).
Note that Foster recommends Carl Jung, who followed a demonic spirit guide, as well as Ignatius of Loyola, who founded an organization dedicated to blind obedience to the pope at the very height of the murderous Inquisition. The “spirit realm” to which these men connected through meditative practices was the realm of darkness. 

Foster recommends Loyola’s practice of visualizing a personal encounter with Jesus, which is presumptuous foolishness. We don’t even know what Jesus looks like and we are not supposed to. Faith is simply believing God’s Word (Romans 10:17). Faith is not putting oneself into the biblical account and letting one’s imagination run wild.

In a major sign of the times, World Vision’s American branch will employ “gay Christians in legal same-sex marriages” (“World Vision,” Christianity Today, Mar. 24, 2014). World Vision, “a Christian humanitarian” organization, took in more than a billion dollars in revenue in 2013 in its objective of “tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.” World Vision’s U.S. president Richard Stearns says that the new rule “makes our policy more consistent with our practice on other divisive issues.” He hopes that ignoring issues such as divorce/remarriage, baptism, female pastors, and now “same-sex marriage” will advance the cause of Christian unity. He has the audacity to claim that “this is not an endorsement of same-sex marriage.” He says that World Vision can make the new rule because it is a parachurch organization and is not responsible for issues pertaining to Bible doctrine and church practice. Yet the Bible’s commands such as Jude 3 and Romans 16:17 are addressed to all true believers, and obedience to these commands cannot be escaped by claiming to have a more focused, limited objective such as social justice, the family, mass evangelism, or creation science. A foundational problem here is that parachurch organizations have no authority in the New Testament. Every ministry should be under the oversight and discipline of a sound New Testament church, which is the pillar and ground of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15). Further, Christ’s Great Commission does not consist of changing the world via social work. The apostles and early churches didn’t try to change the socio-economic condition of the Roman Empire. The Lord’s Great Commission does not consist of one or two or three limited objectives, as good as these might be in themselves. The time appears to be very short, and the crying need of the hour is for the building of sound New Testament churches that are geared 100% to the fulfillment of Christ’s Great Commission as described in Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:44-48; and Acts 1:8. World Vision can huff and puff all it wants about how it is not compromising. Bible believers know that this is utter nonsense. Insofar as it is a Christian ministry in any sense, World Vision is a clear fulfillment of 2 Timothy 4:2-3. World Vision’s decision is also the logical result of the “in essentials unity” heresy. We will see many more cases of capitulation to the homosexual rights movement among professing Christians because of the lack of biblical conviction and the renunciation of separatism and because this is the easy path.

Comment: In two days, World Vision USA has determined that a majority of Christian churches are no longer pro gay marriage and now are pro Biblical marriage. It seems that it is now better business to reverse course.

Casting Crowns is led by Mark Hall, a youth pastor at Eagles Landing First Baptist Church in suburban Atlanta. the band leads the contemporary worship services with their pop rock music.

The award-winning group has broad influence through songs such as “Come to the Well,” “Who Am I,” “Courageous,” “Glorious Day,” “If We Are the Body,” “Praise You with the Dance.”

Casting Crowns’ radical ecumenism and spiritual carelessness is evident in that they participated in the National Worship Leader Conference in 2011, joining hands with men such as Jack Hayford who says God spoke to him and told him not to judge the Roman Catholic Church. 
Another prominent speaker at the conference was Leonard Sweet who promotes a wide variety of New Age heresies. He calls his universalist-tinged doctrine “New Light” and “quantum spirituality” and “the Christ consciousness” and describes it in terms of “the union of the human with the divine” which is the “center feature of all the world’s religions” (Quantum Spirituality, p. 235). Sweet defines the New Light as “a structure of human becoming, a channeling of Christ energies through mindbody experience” (Quantum Spirituality, p. 70). Sweet says that “New Light pastors” hold the doctrine of “embodiment of God in the very substance of creation” (p. 124). In Carpe Mañana, Sweet says that the earth is as much a part of the body of Christ as humans and that humanity and the earth constitutes “a cosmic body of Christ” (p. 124). Sweet says that some of the “New Light leaders” that have influenced his thinking are Matthew Fox, M. Scott Peck, Willis Harman, and Ken Wilber. These are prominent New Agers who believe in the divinity of man, as we have documented in the book The New Age Tower of Babel. Sweet has endorsed The Shack with its non-judgmental father-mother god, and he promotes Roman Catholic contemplative mysticism and dangerous mystics such as the Catholic-Buddhist Thomas Merton. At the National Worship Leader Conference, Casting Crowns also joined hands with Tim Hughes who heads up Worship Central and is on staff at Holy Trinity Brompton, one of the birthplaces of the Laughing Revival in England and the Alpha program which has a close association with the Roman Catholic Church. humanity and the earth constitutes “a cosmic body of 
Christ” (p. 124). Sweet says that some of the “New Light 
leaders” that have influenced his thinking are Matthew Fox, 
M. Scott Peck, Willis Harman, and Ken Wilber. These are 
prominent New Agers who believe in the divinity of man, as 
we have documented in the book The New Age Tower of 
Babel. Sweet has endorsed e Shack with its non-judgmental 
father-mother god, and he promotes Roman Catholic 
contemplative mysticism and dangerous mystics such as the

Crowns also joined hands with Tim Hughes who heads up

Casting Crowns performed with Sanctus Real in December 
2011. Matt Hammitt of Sanctus Real participated in the 2003 
tour of the !Hero rock opera, which depicts Jesus as a cool 
black man. In !Hero, the Last Supper is a barbecue party and 
‘Jesus’ is crucified on a city street sign. Sanctus Real and 
Steven Curtis Chapman played a concert in 2003 at St. Mary

In “What This World Needs” Casting Crowns attacks every

CHICAGO—In a stunning capitulation to a powerful Sin Movement, World Vision’sAmerican branch announced yesterday that it will now employ people who are in legal homosexual “marriages”—a distinctly anti-Biblical position for an organization that professes “Jesus is Lord” and “We desire him to be central in our individual and corporate life.”
The cultural cave-in by World Vision was made all the more remarkable by WV PresidentRichard Stearns’ awkward attempts to justify and explain it—even denying that World Vision has caved on its Christian principles. WV had previously fought government attempts to force it and other Christian organizations to follow pro-homosexual mandates. Stearns told Christianity Today that the new policy was “not an endorsement of same-sex marriage. We have decided we are not going to get into that debate. Nor is this a rejection of traditional marriage, which we affirm and support.”
Stearns said, “Changing the employee conduct policy to allow someone in a same-sex marriage who is a professed believer in Jesus Christ to work for us makes our policy more consistent with our practice on other divisive issues,” he said. “It also allows us to treat all of our employees the same way: abstinence outside of marriage, and fidelity within marriage.”
Historically, people embracing sin are not regarded as faithful Christians. Homosexual conduct is clearly proscribed in the Bible as a sin (Romans 1:24-27) but one that can be overcome through Christ (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). Many former “gays” and “lesbians” like Anne Paulk have overcome homosexuality through faith in Jesus.
Christ affirmed the Genesis account of marriage as the union of one man and one woman (Mark 10: 6-8). Only in liberal denominations widely regarded as having jettisoned biblical authority does one hear the bizarre concept of two people of the same sex honoring “fidelity within marriage.”
Yet Stearns said, “This is not us compromising. It is us deferring to the authority of churches and denominations on theological issues.” He denied that World Vision is headed down a “slippery slope.”
Americans For Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH) offers the following points about World Vision’s pro-homosexual-“marriage” sellout:
  • Stearns’ rationale for the policy change is stunningly dishonest and illogical in its double-speak. Stearns would be more forthright in declaring that World Vision has abandoned the Bible as authoritative and is denying “Jesus as Lord.” The same principle applies to individuals and organizations: one cannot embrace and sanctify sin while professing to honor Jesus Christ, who died and rose again so that believers might have victory OVER sin.
  • By recognizing homosexual “marriages” in its hiring practices and treating them like actual marriages, World Vision has not only entered the debate over this issue but greatly advanced the LGBT agenda by lending “Christian” credibility to “gay” activists’ misleading “marriage equality” propaganda. WV also undermines religious liberty by signaling that immoral laws that defy God’s law are more binding than Scripture—unilaterally throwing up the white flag of surrender on freedom of conscience.
  • World Vision’s sellout is part of a disturbing trend in evangelicalism to capitulate in the Culture War over homosexuality–while the pro-LGBT lobby only ramps up its advocacy of sexually immoral laws and corporate policies. The WV decision comes just days after Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy chose to censor himself by declaring that his public defense of natural marriage was a business “mistake.” Cathy vowed to stay out of the marriage debate, reportedly after listening to the counsel of friends—including homosexual activist Shane Windmeyer, whose organization, Campus Pride, advocates for homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism on college campuses.
  • World Vision now puts hundreds of thousands of biblically faithful and compassionate Christians in a bind: they want to keep supporting poor children through WV sponsorships, but they do not want to give their money to a charity that actively undermines God’s Word through its policies. Many Christians will abandon World Vision and children will suffer.
  • Ironically, many of the people in poor countries served by World Vision remain faithful to Scripture and resent, if not despise, the watered-down “Christianity” of decadent Western nations like the United States that seeks to accommodate sexual sin.
  • Lastly, World Vision does a great spiritual disservice to its “gay married” employees. By implying that unrepentant, practicing homosexuals can be faithful servants of Jesus Christ while living openly in grave sexual sin and mocking true marriage, WV becomes an impediment to their repentance before God. Salvation requires humblyacknowledging and turning away from sin, just as genuine marriage requires two people of the opposite sex joining to produce a natural family.

There are many people who would like to see those qualities in themselves. Just a small percentage can claim those traits. Even fewer can manage to achieve those goals under the pressure of being a public figure. David Akers is one of those incredibly rare people who personifies those qualities under the intense scrutiny of playing in the National Football League.
The hard work and perseverance paid off when David was cut three times before defining his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. Being served walking papers in Atlanta, Carolina and Washington, intertwined with jobs as a substitute teacher and waiter, provided David with an early dose of reality. Those early hardships formed the foundation of this truly humble man.

Given what could have been his last chance at an NFL career, David joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999 and was asked to play in Berlin for an NFL Europe team. By that season’s end he was in a hospital bed for one week with food poisoning and almost didn’t make it back in time for Eagles training camp. After losing 30 pounds, however, David recovered in time to earn a job with his strong left leg. Twelve seasons later – four times the length of an average NFL career – David played in more games in an Eagles uniform than anyone ever (188) and became the franchises all-time leading scorer (1,323). He was named to the Eagles 75th Anniversary All-Time Team, was voted as the kicker on the NFL 200’s All-Decade Team, and set the NFL mark for points in a decade (1,169 from 2000-2009).
After leaving the Eagles, David played two seasons in San Francisco and rewrote the NFL record book during that brief time. In 2011, he set an NFL record for points (without a TD) with 166, field goals in a season (44), and 4+ FG games (6). On September 9, 2012, at Green Bay, he tied the NFL record connecting on a 63-yard FG.
Now with the Detroit Lions, the six-time Pro Bowler has set the bar high for his new team. In 14 NFL season, his club has reached the playoffs ten times, played in seven NFC Championship games and two Super Bowls. Once the regular season ends David keeps on kicking. He owns the NFL playoff record with 19 consecutive FGMs and holds nearly every Pro Bowl kicking record: Most points (57), Longest FG (53), and Most appearances (6; second behind Morten Andersen).
But his NFL career only tells you about part of the man. David Akers is known for more than just having nice legs! He is as tireless in the community as he is on the field – and a champion there as well.
Early in his career, the Fall of 2001 in fact, David launched David Akers’ Kicks for Kids with the mission to provide Greater Philadelphia/Delaware Valley children with opportunities to pursue their dreams. The Foundation provides interactive programs and events designed to directly benefit children facing serious challenges in their lives whether due to mental or physical challenges or the environment in which they live.

Many of the programs help kids and their families enjoy what might be a brief respite away from the stress brought on by illness or other tragedy. Two such programs are Field of Dreams and David’s Locker.
The Field of Dreams program is for a child and his/her family who has gone through a difficult physical and/or emotional time in their life. Taken by limo to and from an Eagles game, each child receives Eagles gear and gets to go on field pregame to meet a player. In his absence, David maintained the program through ex-teammates and was able to expand this program to San Francisco thru the 49ers Foundation where he sent families from Ronald McDonald House in Stanford to 49ers’ home games. 
Each year, more and more families are in need of the David’s Locker Program. Many families are overwhelmed by the financial hardship that a chronic or life threatening illness of a child brings. Many have to make choices between buying medicine or medical supplies or pay bills and buy food. David’s Locker provides assistance to these families. Since 2001 Kicks for Kids has been able to donate nearly $1,000,000 to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Programs (CHOP).
Most important to David is that his Foundation is a hands-on affair. While in Philadelphia, he went to CHOP every week and visited patients to try to make their time a little more pleasant and less stressful.
Kicks for Kids has been able to provide 100 families each year a complete turkey dinner during the Thanksgiving Holiday through its Turkey Run program and provides a full Christmas Celebration to families who otherwise would not be able to enjoy the Christmas season.
David’s faith has become increasingly stronger. Once only guided by Christ, David is still guided but now also leads. A licensed Reverend, he has performed baptisms and a wedding ceremony, and has given Christian messages to audiences both large and small. As a professional athlete, he remains a very active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and performed pregame team prayers and chapels for the 49ers. David also speaks frequently at churches, men’s groups and high schools on being a man of character and faith.
In recent years, David has hosted and completely funded two Christian Outreaches through concerts in New Jersey for young people and their families by bringing in performers like Toby Mac, Brandon Heath, Jeremy Camp and Franchesca Battistelli. He felt as though there was a need in the community for a positive event that the whole family could enjoy together.
For 10 seasons, David co-hosted a Monday night radio from a remote location before a live audience for WXTU-FM. He also served as spokesperson for Lincoln Financial, BMW of Devon Hill Pennsylvania and Jefferson Hospital Heart Health Program and entertains as an effective corporate speaker.

LaHaye says that Left Behind is “the first fictional portrayal of events that are true to the literal interpretation of Bible prophecy. It was written for anyone who loves gripping fiction featuring believable characters, a dynamic plot that also weaves prophetic events in a fascinating story.” The story begins on the day that the Rapture takes place and concludes just as the Antichrist is about to assume power over the world. LaHaye’s ecumenism isn’t limited to his political activities. He frequently joins hands with apostates at all sorts of ecumenical gatherings. For example, when the charismatic Rock Christian Network was launched in 1986, Tim LaHaye’s beaming face joined those of the charismatic mystics Oral Roberts, David Yonggi Cho, and Demos Shakarian, Catholic priest John Bertolucci, and others. LaHaye has appeared regularly at “Jesus” rock festivals in various parts of the country, joining hands with rock ‘n’ rollers and ecumenists, including Tom Skinner and Tony Campolo. Tim LaHaye spoke at Oral Roberts University’s 1990 Christian School Conference. He was Co-chairman of the Jerusalem ’90 charismatic conference which featured David Yonggi Cho and James Robison. In a fund-raising promotional brochure, LaHaye praised radical charismatic “faith healer” Morris Cerullo upon his takeover of the PTL TV Network/Heritage properties. LaHaye said he was glad it would not be lost “to the body of Christ,” and that because of Cerullo’s faith, the network would “continue to be used to preach the Gospel and to present positive programming” (11/1/90 & 3/1/91 issues of the Calvary Contender). The Left Behind Series:

EXCERPTS:
The Left Behind series of novels about events following the Rapture has been a phenomenal commercial success. The authors are Jerry Jenkins, writer-at-large for the neo-evangelicalpsychologized Moody Bible Institute, and Tim LaHaye, well-known author (over 40 books), “noted authority” on Bible prophecy (e.g., Revelation Unveiled), and promoter of the heretical “Four Temperaments” theory
The fictionalizing of Scripture is an egregious offense in and of itself, but the theology presented in the books is intolerable (despite the publisher’s claim that “The series is guaranteed to be theologically sound.”). Following are just a few examples of the unscriptural things found in the Left Behind series:
(1)  Large numbers of relatives and friends of Christians are saved after the Rapture occurs
(2)  The books feature the formation of a “Tribulation Force” to resist the Antichrist.
(3)  Prayers to the dead is taught in one of the books. 
(4)  New Age/occult out-of-body experiences are encouraged.
(5)  Satan is in charge of the weather
(6)  One of the very questionable doctrines the Left Behind series teaches is that at the time of the rapture pregnant women will suddenly become un-pregnant (that is, the unborn babies will be taken in the rapture and will leave the unsaved mother, who is left behind, many pounds lighter!). A rapture for embryos! 
(7)  The Christians in the books make major decisions based on their intuitions and human reasoning rather than on Bible precepts.
(8)  Easy-believism and low moral standards are promoted in the Left Behind series. Based on a bathroom scene where the hero, Buck, gets converted, it appears all that is needed to be saved is mental assent to God’s existence. Then when Buck uses his credit card to embezzle and steal from his boss, this “Christian” deems all okay because the theft is for the cause of Christ (and his boss is the Antichrist). 
(9)  Female Bible teachers are acceptable. Book three has two female members of the “Tribulation Force” trained to teach the Bible to mixed groups of people
(10) Book 4 teaches the error of infant baptism.
(11) Books 8 & 9 teach that recipients of the mark of the beast can still be saved.
(12) The pope is raptured away! The books depict the Roman Catholic pope as a saved man who is taken away in the Rapture. This is perhaps the most serious and dangerous error in all the books. It encourages the ecumenical movement and its powerful back-to-Rome emphasis. It adds support to the false ecumenical concept of “evangelical Catholicism.”
In summary, the Left Behind series may be tolerable fiction, but it is definitely intolerable theology, and thereby, must be rejected by true Christians.

In addition to many of the same doctrinal problems with the Left Behind books, we have a couple more problems with the Left Behind I film/video. (A second video was released in 2002 — Left Behind II: Tribulation Force.) The most serious problem is that the GOSPEL of our Lord was LEFT BEHIND in this film (actually LEFT OUT!). There was no gospel presented anywhere in the film. The name of Christ is mentioned only three times in the film (during about a one minute segment, a scene where a video was being played to explain the rapture; the video was prepared by a pastor prior to the rapture with the hope that it would help people to understand what was happening after the rapture). Apart from this, Christ’s Name is never mentioned. When people pray to be saved, it is in the most general terms (“God, please forgive me”), and invitations to salvation are also very general (“You need to believe in God”). There is no mention of the cross (Christ’s substitutionary death), no empty tomb (the Resurrection), no emphasis on the sinfulness of man (man’s total depravity), and no clear presentation of the terms of salvation (God’s sovereignty in salvation). Any religious person who “believes in God” would probably think that they have met the conditions. Also, some of the music in the video was horrible (“Christian” rock music of the worst kind). At the end of the video, after the movie was completed, there was a review of some of the scenes in the movie with rock music in the background, along with some scenes of a “Christian” rock group performing with typical body movements and awful facial expressions as they sang a song called, “The Midnight Cry,” which was not even worthy to be called music. I did not know how big a part the Lahayes had in all this until I started doing research into this area.
Both Tim Lahaye and Beverly Lahaye have from the beginning been supporters of Sun Myung Moon and have started organizations and have chaired organizations funded by Sun Myung Moon.  These organizations have some of the most prominent Christian names associated to it while meanwhile they support this New Age guru self proclaiming Christ paving the way for the one world religion.  A few of these organizations are directly linked to the CFR, CIA and Masonry.  Moon was arrested for tax evasions and Tim Lahaye formed the CRF (Coalition for Religious Freedom) in order to get him out. Hail Lindsey and Paul Crouch (TBN) were also part of this.
Besides supporting the “Moonies” and new agers Tim Lahaye is also guilty of starting the Left Behind series and the forerunner of the “Pre Trib” teaching on the rapture.  It is scary that most churches now hold this view and teach this twisting of scripture.  I’m not going to take a side on rapture theology but this view is based on pure speculation, fantasy and twisting of scripture.  I personally have done extensive research on this subject and above all I READ MY BIBLE! But this topic I will save for another paper. The big cheese here is that this view is setting people up for massive deception and disappointment.  Because it holds the view that Christians will be taken away before the big bad tribulation will happen when the rapture doesn’t happen after the world goes to pot people will doubt their faith in Jesus Christ.
Tim Lahaye was responsible for gathering all the theologians  together to make sure this was the view the church had.  This view makes the church weak in the faith.
I can go on for pages about this but here is a very shocking revealing fact about all of this.  All the significant production and release dates for Left Behind fall on Major Satanic Holidays.
There are 8 primary holidays in witchcraft and Satanism. There are four major and four minor ones:
1) Candlemas or Imbolg — Feb. 1,2- major
2) Ostara- March 21 (Spring Equinox) – minor
3) Beltane or Roodmas – May 1 (founding day for the Illuminati in 1776)- major

Or one in seventeen billion, four hundred fifty-eight million, six hundred and one thousand, one hundred sixty. If you believe this is a coincidence then you probably believe it was a coincidence that Jesus died on Passover, was resurrected during Feast of Firstfruits and that the Holy Spirit fell and the church was born on the Feast of Pentecost.

This FACT further drives home my point that a lot of these men are not Christians but Satanists.  Before I talk about a few other people take a look at all these organizations many that Tim Lahaye either started or was a part of. Take a look at the names associated with them and you will get a bigger picture of this “Family”.
The Council Of National Policy (CNP)
Another Moon sponsored organization is the Council of National Policy founded in 1981 by Tim LaHaye, the aforementioned co-author of the “Left Behind” book series. It is reported that he received $500,000 from a Mr. Bo Hi Pak, Moons #1 man, and a former Korean CIA officer. Though a tape exists showing that LaHaye thanked Pak for the money, LaHaye never denied the charge but verbally attacked the sources verifying the allegation with a barrage of insult.
“The Committee on National Policy is a vital link between multi-billion dollar defense contractors, Washington lobbyists like the convicted felon and Republican fundraiser, Jack Abramoff, and the Christian Right. It’s at the heart of a new axis between right-wing military politics, support for the Pentagon war agenda globally and the neo-conservative political control of much of US foreign and defense policy.
The CNP has been at the center of Karl Rove’s carefully-constructed Bush political machine. Tom Delay and dozens of top Bush Administration Republicans are or have been members of the CNP. Few details about the organization are leaked to the public. As secretive as the Bilderberg Group if not more so, the CNP releases no press statements, meets in secret and never reveals names of its members willingly.”

Jim Woodall, John Ankerberg (internationally recognized Christian television personality), Rev. E.V. Hill, James Robison, Jay Sekulow (Attorney and activist for ultra-right/Christian causes), Pat Boone, Larry Burkett, Reed Larson, and many others.
Some of the political leaders involved with the Moon sponsored CNP group include Senators Jesse Helms, Don Nickles, and Trent Lott. Also Representatives Tom DeLay, Dan Burton, and Bob Dornan.
Looking into some of the CNP officers we find not only a just a strong association with Moon, but also powerful ties with the CIA and the Council on Foreign Relations, not to mention association with high level Freemasonry for which many conspiracy theorists have more than a mere elementary knowledge related to the NWO. Another past President of CNP is Rich DeVoss, co-founder of Amway (and 33rd degree Mason).
Coalition For Religious Freedom (CRF)
Another past Moon organization was the ‘Coalition for Religious Freedom’ where again, Tim LaHaye held a paid position as Chairman. It was formed by LaHaye after Moon was arrested for tax evasion. Jerry Falwell, Jimmy Swaggart, James Robison, James Kennedy and Rex Humbard, have all served as executive committee members. Other notables to serve in Moons CRF include Hal Lindsey (Author of “The Late Great Planet Earth”), Paul Crouch (Head of the Trinity Broadcasting Network), Dr. D. James Kennedy and Don Wildman to name a few.
CRF President Don Sills admits that CRF has received no less than $500,000 from Moon sources. In 1984, despite forces in government opposing the move, Moon was jailed for tax evasion (sentenced to 18 Months in prison and fined $25,000). In a CRF sponsored rally Tim Lahaye asked that people go to jail with Moon in protest.
American Freedom Coalition
Led by Dr. Robert Grant and also a Moonie organization. In a period of a little over 2 years they received nearly 6 million dollars from Moon organizations and enterprises. This group includes Paul Crouch, Rex Humbard, James Robinson and many more, names well known among the evangelical Christian community.
Concerned Women of America
Headed by Beverly LaHaye. The wife of Tim LaHaye, She too has been a public speaker for Moon functions.
Womens Federation for World Peace
Also headed by Beverly LaHaye and recipient of Moon funding. Former President George Bush Sr. (and one time former CIA Director) received an undisclosed amount for speaking engagements from this organization and his fee is lost somewhere in the 13.5 million dollar conference expense-line according to IRS records.
Family Federation for World Peace
Another Moon organization which held a meeting in Washington in 1996. Among the speakers at this event were Beverly LaHaye and Ralph Reed. Over 1500 notables from around the world attended.
National Religious Broadcasters
Members include Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Jimmy Swaggart, Tim LaHaye, Billy Graham, Bill Bright and many others clearly associated with Moon.
Pat Robertson in the early 80s, as Oliver North was trading guns and ammo (and who knows what else) in Nicaragua, was coordinating efforts to use “Operation Blessing” to help supply goods to the Contras. Allegedly these goods included hard cash and gasoline for Contra vehicles.
The head of Operation Blessing was Captain Robert Warren, who was also formerly associated with a CIA group called “Operation Phoenix.” Allegedly this was an assassination group that operated in Vietnam. Also associated with this group was… surprise, Oliver North.
The Washington Times Foundation
A pro-Bush Inaugural luncheon, held in Washington D.C. was sponsored by the Washington Times Foundation, another Moon founded group. Among the attendees were Paul Crouch, founder of Trinity Broadcast Network, Robert Schuller, Kenneth Copeland, Jerry Falwell, Don Argue, past president of the National Association of Evangelicals, Pat Boone, a former T.B.N. board member, Billy McCormack (who was a Christian Coalition board member who actually presented Moon with an award) and Southern Baptist Convention President James Merritt.

Another Moon associated group is called the ‘Council of 56 of the Religious Roundtable’. This group is made up of many of the same members from Rev. Moons’ CNP and CRF organizations. It marries leading Moon associated evangelicals to the CIA, the Council for Foreign relations, the Trilateral Commission and Freemasonry. CFR, and TLC are closely tied to the Bilderberg group.

    “On March 9, Ulf Ekman, Pentecostal pastor in Sweden, told his congregation that he is joining the Roman Catholic Church. Ekman has a wide influence. Not only is he a pastor of a megachurch and founder of Scandinavia’s largest Bible school, but he also was on the board of Yoido Full Gospel Church in Seoul, South Korea, whose senior pastor is David Yonggi Cho, and he mentored Kong Hee, founder of Singapore’s largest church, City Harvest. (Cho was recently convicted of breach of trust and corruption for misuse of church funds to support his son’s business, and Hee is currently on trial on the charge of misuse of church funds to support his wife’s pop music career.) Ekman now denounces “the ongoing Protestant fragmentation of Christendom” and plans to “pursue unity among Christian movements and denominations” (“Conversion of Sweden’s Most Influential Pastor,”Christianity Today, Mar. 14, 2014). Ekman said that it was “contact with catholics” that was a major factor in his conversion, reminding us that evil communications corrupt good manners (1 Cor. 15:33), and that all ecumenical roads eventually lead to Rome.”

Ulf Ekman and Wife Are Converting to Catholicism ( in English ). Ulf Ekman, pastor and founder of Livets Ord (Word of Life) Church in Uppsala, Sweden, told the congregation on March 9, 2104 during his sermon that he and his wife, Birgitta, have decided to join the Catholic church. The announcement came after Ekman, who founded Word of Life about 30 years ago, announced his retirement in March 2013 as senior pastor at the church. Word of Life has around 3,300 members.

December 2012 the inner circle of Word of Life Uppsala Sweden appears unannounced in Donetsk with a letter from “Senior Apostle” Ulf Ekman and with an order to appeal to Bishop Leonid Padun to resign all authority immediately and allow Swedish team to oversee the Church and sister Churches.

In February 2014, ‘Son of God’ a spinoff feature-length film, of the wildly successful “Bible Miniseries”, will debut in movie theaters across America. The film, which is essentially expanded scenes from The Bible Miniseries. Created by TV producer Mark Burnett and actress Roma Downey, the movie has the potential to just be a continuation of the inaccurate and heretical doctrines of its original miniseries. And despite the many doctrinal red flags in The Bible Miniseries, Pastors across the country are once again urging their congregations to flock to see Hollywood’s distorted version of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
1.  The Bible Mini-Series: The Foundation of Its Heresy
Beginning and End initially did an article on The Bible Miniseries, entitled “The Bible Miniseries: Hollywood Heresy” in which we exposed the many heretical doctrines and outright blasphemies in the smash hit cable series. Rather than just mere “creative license”, The Bible Miniseries distorted and changed key events and accounts in the Biblical text for the sake of “entertainment.” Among some of the examples:
In the real Bible, the angels sent to Sodom never got beat up.
  • The angels who arrive in Sodom to warn Lot of the coming judgment of God are beaten up by the residents of the city of Sodom. They run into Lot’s house in fear of the people. None of this is in Scripture and in angels, not only do humans never harm angels, they are more often than not in utter fear and despair when standing in the presence of a Holy Angel. Later in The Bible Miniseries, the angels use martial arts to fight the Sodomites as Lots and his family escape. Again, none of this is ever in Scripture and is a bizarre depiction of a very important account of God’s righteous judgment against sin (destroying the sinful city of Sodom) and His loving redemption (saving Lot and his family).
  • King David upon being caught in the sin of adultery and murder by the prophet Nathan, is told that his son born of adultery will die as punishment. This indeed is what the Bible depicts. However in the Miniseries, David’s reaction at being told God’s judgment is anger and defiance, as he tells Nathan “we’ll see about that”, implying that he’s going to fix God’s business for daring to pronounce such a judgment on him. In Scripture, the real King David’s reaction is deep sorrow and repentance:
    And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said unto David, The Lord also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.And Nathan departed unto his house. And the Lord struck the child that Uriah’s wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.  And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.
    And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead? But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the Lord, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread. And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether God will be gracious to me, that the child may live? But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me. – 2 Samuel 12:13-23.
There are many powerful Biblical principles in this account. For one, we see that the real King David did indeed repent and immediately confess his sin. His humility before God was clear because despite being a powerful king surrounded by servants and owning an abundance of wealth, David fasted for days, laying on his face on the ground in repentance, praying for God’s mercy on his illegitimate child. Thus we see David’s heart was indeed one of a believer in God’s salvation and forgiveness. David even expressed to his servants that he believed it was possible God would revoke his judgment and let the child live. Finally in verse 23, David, despite his horrific sin, knows that he is going to Heaven as he declares that his child will not be coming back to life, but that he would “go to him” – at David’s point of death they would be reunited. What does this tell a believer? That even an adulterer and murderer like King David can be forgiven. That even in our times of deepest despair, God’s mercy is still extended. David did not earn God’s forgiveness. He believed in God’s Gospel and trusted in God’s mercy that his soul was saved eternally. He elaborated on this in Psalm 51, which he wrote after this incident:
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. – Psalm 51:1-8.
This beautiful Psalm shows the way to Heaven. And it starts with recognizing one’s sin. David confessed his sin to the Lord in clear and bold fashion. And he recognized that is God who “cleans” and “washes” us of that sin. How? By the blood of Jesus Christ, the Messiah and Son of God. Jesus’ sacrifice was the payment for our sins. It is what allows God to justly forgive a person of their sins because in putting their faith in Christ, a person’s rightful punishment was taken on by Jesus on the cross. Jesus stepped in the place of King David and every other person who has ever lived, to suffer in their place. And it only takes faith in Christ’s sacrifice to receive forgiveness of sin. This is what the Bible is all about. If a person was making a movie about the Bible, it would probably be a good idea to include this very, extremely important and critical message in the film. But instead what did The Bible Miniseries do? Eliminate it altogether and turn David into a petulant brat who has no remorse or repentance and tells God “we’ll see about that!” This incredibly heretical and blasphemous in its distortion of the Holy Bible.
Recall that the ‘Son of God’ movie is mostly made from parts of The Bible Miniseries with extra scenes added in. For more details of the horrific alterations of Scripture and the Bible’s message of forgiveness of sin in Christ, see our article,“The Bible Miniseries: Hollywood Heresy.”
2. The ‘Biblical Advisors’ of The Bible Miniseries – Producing Rotten Fruit
Rick Warren, an advisor to the film, has been a major promoter of The Son of God.
“We weren’t qualified to teach the Bible, but we knew plenty of people who were,” – The Bible mini-series co-creator Mark Burnett, speaking of the panel of spiritual advisors who helped make the mini-series.
“[Miniseries Co-Creator Mark Burnett] would send scripts our way and ask doctrinal or Bible questions about it, but a lot of it was a friendship and an advisory role,”[Pastor Joel] Osteen said. Osteen said much of his work was confirming if the extra biblical material stayed true to the Bible. (source).
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. – Jesus Christ, The True Son of God, Matthew 7:15-20.
The Son of God film also provides books, sermons and study kits for sale. Despite its many errors, the producers of Son of God are selling sermons, Bible Study guides and numerous resources for churches all over the world.
A quick look at the Board of Advisors on The Bible Miniseries and it becomes quite obvious that it was bound to contain heretical portrayals of the Scriptures. Prosperity Gospel preacher T.D. Jakes, Rick Warren of Saddleback Church and Joel Osteen of Lakewood Church, the largest church in the United States are the three most prominent names. As Beginning and End has detailed in past articles, all three pastors teach Unbiblical, New Age, false doctrines. In our article on T.D. Jakes we showed that in addition to preaching the money-focused prosperity Gospel, he also has yoked with New Age promoter Oprah Winfrey. Joel Osteen preaches a message of New Age mysticism that can be found in many books and websites on witchcraft, while Rick Warren has been a major promoter of a one-world religion that merges other faiths with Christianity.

Osteen specifically, stated that he was a script advisor for The Bible Miniseries. Here is the pastor openly denying Jesus Christ as the only way to salvation:

False Teacher Joel Osteen: The Gospel:

Joel Osteen is interviewed by Larry King and blatantly denies the gospel and exclusiveness of Jesus Christ. He is actually given two chances, but he denies Christ both times. Beware—this man is a false teacher who teaches heresy that sends people to Hell.

So in addition to his New Age doctrines, Osteen has openly denied Jesus Christ. His teachings are wildly unbiblical and fall under the category of corrupt fruit. And the clear word of Scripture is that no “good fruit” will come from a corrupt tree. So says, the True Son of God, Jesus Christ.  Who do you believe?
3. The Creators of Son of God – Yoked With The Occult
The Bible Miniseries Co-creator Roma Downey on the cover of the New Age OM Magazine.

As detailed in our article on the Bible Miniseries, Roma Downey, co-creator of The Bible Miniseries and the Son of God, adheres to a number of New Age and occult doctrines and practices.  Roma Downey has been celebrated for her co-creation of The Bible Miniseries and being an outspoken “Hollywood Christian.” Known for her role in the 90s drama “Touched By An Angel” in which she played an angel who comes to Earth to help people with problems, her name on The Bible Miniseries lent a great deal of Christian credibility. But looking a little closer at the testimony of Downey and it becomes apparent she is more involved with New Age mysticism than Biblical Christianity.
In 2010 Downey graduated from The University of Santa Monica with a Degree in Spiritual Psychology (the entire school is dedicated to the study of Spiritual Psychology and “Soul-centered Education”). The University describes this field as:
Spiritual Psychology is the study and practice of the art and science of human evolution in consciousness… “surrendering” and “sacrificing” is work that can and has been called “healing,” which includes healing on the physical, mental, and emotional levels in service to the deeper revelation of who we truly are as Loving, Peaceful, Compassionate, and Joyful beings. We refer to this level of awareness as the Authentic Self…
Put another way, Spiritual Psychology is a technology that empowers students to convert their everyday life experience into rungs on the ladder of Spiritual Evolution…” (source).
Downey also said in an interview:
‘My kids go to school about a 40-minute drive away. I’m open to the group’s opinion about what we listen to on the way there. On the way back, I get my own selections — books on tape by Eckhart Tolle, Tony Robbins…My husband says I’m so self-realized I’m practically levitating.’ (source).
“Self-realization” is a term in New Age and Eastern mysticism for achieving godhood, or releasing one’s true “inner divine self” through spiritual practices. Eckhart Tolle, a New Age guru and author of the book, A New Earth, promoted many doctrines that are contrary to Biblical Christianity. Among them:
“…heaven is not a location but refers to the inner realm of consciousness…. Earth, on the other hand, is the outer manifestation in form, which is always a reflection of the inner…. ‘A new heaven’ is the emergence of a transformed state of human consciousness, and ‘a new earth’ is its reflection in the physical realm.”[1,p.23]
“Recognize the ego for what it is: a collective dysfunction, the insanity of the human mind…. Nobody is wrong. It is the ego in someone, that’s all.” (p. 76).
“You realize your true identity as consciousness…. That’s the peace of God. The ultimate truth of who you are is not I am this or I am that, but I Am.” (p. 56-57).
These doctrines are in clear contradiction to the Bible which states that Heaven is indeed a real place, as is hell. And rather than say “nobody is wrong” the Bible is quite clear that we are all sinners. Romans chapter 3 says: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”  All people (this author included) have sinned. All people are deserving of God’s wrath. The New Age movmement seeks to eliminate the concept of sin or judgment of God. And this is a satanic deception. Beloved, if a person does not believe in sin, then they have no need for a Savior.
Roma Downey collaborated on a book that teaches prayers to Mary.

Downey has also promoted her occult practice of necromancy – communicating with the dead. She has worked with TV psychic Johnathan Edwards, who is renowned for his ability to speak with the dead. Against these are clear sins in Scripture:
There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. –Deuteronomy 18:10-12.
“Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.” – Leviticus 19:31.
The Bible could not be clearer that contacting the dead is rebellion against God. Downey not only practices necromancy, she appeared on Edwards’ TV show to have an on-air séance.  In addition, she collaborated on a book with Edwards teaching the heretical Roman Catholic practice of “praying the rosary.” In the book Edwards encourages readers to “pray the rosary” a practice of holding a Catholic Crucifix necklace and uttering repetitive chants in prayers to Mary, the mother of Jesus in the Bible. This practice is sinful for several reasons. As shown above, Christians are not to communicate with the dead. Whether it is a relative, someone from the Bible or a celebrity, any attempts to speak with the dead is necromancy. Secondly, Mary was just a normal person. We are not to pray to her, hail her or seek anything from God through Mary. 1 Timothy 2:3 says: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” It is Jesus Christ who is our advocate with God The Father. The Son of God goes further by showing a scene after the crucifixion where the Apostle Peter is leading the disciples (all 13 of them) in The Lord’s Supper. This scene never took place in the Bible but serves the unbiblical Roman Catholic doctrine that Peter was the “first Pope.” Once again, there is no pope in the Bible or substitute Christ (save for the Antichrist).
Jesus Christ is our High Priest who we take our prayers too. Jesus Christ, the True Son of God said: “But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking,” (Matthew 6:7). Repetitive chants or mantras, are occult practices. Jesus Christ was clear that Christians were not to do this as it is not a proper way of prayer. Prayer for a Christian should be open confession of sin and petitions – asking God for help in areas of life or for others. It’s a frank, open speaking from the heart, not repeated chants as if trying to cast a spell. Yet not only does Roma Downey ignore the Son of God’s clear teaching, she made a CD with John Edwards in which she does a series of repetitive prayers for the listener to repeat and chant themselves.  What spirit is guiding the creator of the Son of God movie? What kind of fruit is coming the creators?
4. It Stars Another Jesus
“And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.” – Matthew 24:4-5.

And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him. – Luke 5:1-11.
Notice Peter’s reaction to the miracle that Jesus had performed. He and his men were fishing all night and caught nothing. There was seemingly, no way to catch any. Yet Peter believed Jesus’ words and obeyed him. Why? Because first off,Jesus was teaching people from Peter’s ship. He was preaching the Gospelwhich the Bible calls: “the power of God unto salvation…”   And after the miracle, Peter dropped to a position of worship and said “Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” Recognizing one’s own sin before the morally perfect God and Lord that is Jesus Christ, is key to going to Heaven. This is again a critical aspect of how a person is saved from the wrath of God and the lake of fire. Peter understood he was in the presence of Divine Power and did not feel worthy. Yet Jesus encourages him by inviting him to come with him to “catch men”, meaning bringing more people to believe in Christ. And Peter “forsook all”, meaning he gave up everything he was doing with his life on the spot, to follow Jesus. All of this is what a person has to do in order to go to Heaven. Acknowledging your sin, confessing it to God, believing in Jesus Christ and giving up your past life of sinful ways and letting your own heart rule, in order to follow Jesus and let Him be Lord of your life, is all a part of being a born again Christian.
Does The Son of God illustrate these powerful points? Not at all. Instead of being astonished and worshiping at the feet of Jesus Character, Peter asks him “How did this happen? What did you do?” as if he had no idea what was going on. The Jesus Character (who looked  like the renaissance era/Catholic depictions of Jesus) responds: “I am giving you the chance to change your life..giving up catching fish and I will make you a fisher of men.” Peter answers “What are we going to do?”showing he still does not really understand if Jesus is divine or why it would be necessary for people to know Jesus. And the Jesus character’s answer is “Change the world.”  No mention of sin, acknowledging of Jesus as God in the flesh or a real salvation message. Instead it is almost a social justice message. Jesus Christ did not come to change the world, He came to save it from its sin. Without understanding that sin is the greatest problem the world is facing, Jesus’ message could be changed to just helping the poor, or providing water wells to communities in drought or working in a homeless shelter. All these actions, while noble, will not get you to Heaven or make one right before God. This is the problem with many churches as they put overemphasis on “changing the world” without first changing the sinful heart that has led a person into sin and damnation, lest they believe the Gospel. And the false doctrines being preached today, while exciting are not Biblical. Do not be deceived.

Prominence of Mary Magdalene – Mary Magdalene, a true believer in Jesus Christ, is not very featured in the Gospels, as she only occurs in a small number of the accounts of Jesus’ life. In The Son of God movie, she is “the 13th disciple” right along with Jesus and the twelve disciples at every key event. As one excellent Christian review stated:
“But in the film, there are 13 apostles, and the thirteenth apostle is a woman named Mary. Not only is she always with them, but she’s with them in the boat during the storm when Jesus walks on water; she’s with them when they travel privately, though in the Scriptures, Jesus pulled aside and taught only The Twelve…men. Mary is also very outspoken and often reproves the male apostles to have more faith as it is very apparent her faith is stronger.During the crucifixion scene when Jesus is being jeered at by the crowd, Mary defends Jesus and shouts “Leave him be!” Wow, brave gal, huh? Braver than the male apostles who never speak up or do anything heroic or faithful. Then when Jesus is resurrected, she’s the first (and only woman) to enter the empty tomb. She also accompanies Peter and John who later come to the empty tomb to see for themselves. In Scripture, three women go to the tomb early in the morning and are greeted by angels who remind them that Jesus said He would rise on the third day. In the movie, she and the apostles remember all this on their own.” (source).
Mary Magdalene is a virtual celebrity in New Age and pagan circles. There are even Gnostic churches devoted to her. And all of this based on heretical and blasphemous writings about a woman who was indeed a believer, but never one of the twelve disciples. She also was not the wife, girlfriend or “right hand woman” to Jesus Christ. With all the deception promoted by blasphemous books such as The DaVinci Code, History Channel documentaries and other “entertainment vehicles” based on the heretical Gnostic Gospels, you would think someone making a “Christian film” would be very wary of this be faithful to the limited account of Mary Magdalene. Instead, the Joel Osteen-approvedSon of God film just adds to the confusion.

  • Mary Magadalene’s account in Scripture, as a woman once possessed by demons who was healed by Jesus and then became a born-again believer – is one to celebrate. But it shoudl be right alongside the numerous other people who Jesus healed in Scripture who then professed their faith in Him as The True Son of God.
  • No mention of sin – In The Son of God, the Jesus Character somehow neglects to mention sin and the need for forgiveness (a glaring omission throughout The Bible miniseries as well). Again, if someone is making a movie about Jesus Christ and trying to share the Gospel this is a key element. The true Jesus Christ of the Bible said: “beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Both of these groups groups were the established “megachurch” preachers of their day, who drew the biggest audiences, garnered the most worldly respect and put on the best appearances of running a truly Godly ministry. But in fact, their doctrine was corrupt and heretical. Jesus referred to their doctrine as “leaven” (another term for yeast) to illustrate an important point – just as a bowl of bread dough only needs a pinch of leaven, so too can false teachers just add a small amount of their false teachings to true Biblical teaching. But soon, like leaven permeates an entire loaf of bread, so too will the false teaching permeate the doctrine. The Son of God film is a perfect example of how the leaven works.
5. It’s Going To Test You
There are some beautiful, powerful scenes in Son of God. But that does not change or correct its many errors.

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. – Matthew 10:34-35.
Jesus Christ was clear that His message was divisive. And today, it is clear that the message of Christ has become one of the divisive issues in all of society. And within the church, the division increases with works like the Son of God. The Christian church has entered an age of rampant apostasy, watered down doctrine and a lack of respect for the Word of God. There has been such a rush to celebrate a Hollywood retelling of the Gospel, that thousands if not millions of Christians have no concern for the inaccuracies, heretical doctrines or occult and New age roots of The Bible Miniseries. Many pastors have rented out theaters, given away thousands of tickets and basically commanded their congregations to run and support the film. And while curiosity about the film or a desire to give a film about Jesus a chance is perfectly understandable – a Pastor, in a position of authority over his congregation has a greater duty. Telling your congregants to see a film is an open endorsement of its creators. And in the case of The Son of God, it means these pastors are endorsing Catholic mystics and New Age heretics.  This is just the type of “Christian unity” that will come in the end times as more and more apostate churches abandon Biblical Christianity in preparation for the one-world religion of the Antichrist.
Christian writers have praised the film, that despite its “liberties” with the Bible, should be celebrated because it will “open discussions about Jesus.” If you are a Christian – a real born again, Bible-believing Christian, then your purpose in life is clear: Jesus Christ, the son of God said: “Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:  And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations…”
You do not need a movie to start a “discussion about Jesus.” Preach the Gospel to those around you. Share Gospel tracts with family, friends and co-workers. Open the Bible with your children and read it to them. Find a Bible-believing church and attend. If the Church is relying on Hollywood to open doors to preach the Gospel, it will be waiting for a very long time. The True Son of God needed no entertainment vehicle to preach. He just needed people around Him. We are to follow His example. And certainly if the Church is going to be excited it should not be over fruit from a corrupt tree, like The Son of God movie.
So where do you stand, Christian? Are you willing to rush after a heretical film and promote it, despite its glaring errors? Are you willing to take in the leaven that The True Son of God said should be avoided, lest you become completely leavened? Are you willing to put popular sentiment among the apostate church and rock star false pastors over the clear commands and words of Jesus Christ? Are you going to listen to your heart over The True Son of God who said the Bible is truth? Or will you be yoked with the New Age movement and the occult? This is the test. And it will produce ugly results. Many will be upset and offended by this article. But why? Because of their passion for God’s Word or due to their excitement that Hollywood is “giving us a chance”?
This author’s sincere hope and prayer is that Christians become united over the Bible and it being presented in “spirit and truth.” The spirit and enthusiasm of the church is certainly present today – but the commitment to truth – meaning accurate, Biblical preaching, is lacking. If Christians want to make Christian film or presentations of the Bible, that is great. In this age, all media should be used to share the message of the Bible. But it should be done with the reverence, respect and care that our Savior deserves and is more than worthy of. That commitment, to be an ambassador for Christ and contend for the faith in every arena, is the best testimony a movie can give (even if it gets a thumbs down from Hollywood).

    In addition to proving the friendliness of Christians to the unregenerate world of Delaware by distributing bags of ice melting salt and light bulbs, another one of pastor Pinder’s “missional/marketing” ideas is to sell a package to women (who make all the decisions for their wimpy husbands anyway) called “Cafe Chocolat”, (French for Chocolate Coffee), self-described as a “metaphor of God’s extravagant grace” allegedly demonstrated through the miracles of Jesus Christ. 
    Its goal is to grow the membership of a church by allegedly saved Christian church women inviting their unsaved relatives, friends and neighbors to this so-called “retreat”, but not to hear the real gospel of sin, repentance, and salvation through the five solas. Instead, through a non-offensive, non-judgmental, sin avoiding, consensus building, diaprax creating, small group, watered down “soup” of sappy, sweet, sentimental niceties, theological errors, feelings based therapeutic/psychological quips, watered down with lady like, intimate, discreet, and heart felt “revelations”, reminiscent of the Victorian era’s tea and crumpets gossip parties, they all agree on something or other unrelated to the real gospel. The only perceived difference may be that today’s “Christian” ladies here are theme dressed in milk or semi-sweet chocolate clothing for atmosphere. 
    This “retreat” overrides and supercedes any semblance of increasing and promulgating Bible knowledge or the gospel of sin and salvation itself. In truth, it is a retreat from the battle of contending for and defending the faith, besides being an opportunity lost for Christ and those lost in their sins.
    Just to make it look authentically biblical though, a smattering of Bible is offered in the 8:30AM to 3:30PM time slot, concentrating on the miracles of Christ, as if to say His miracles are the primary and leading cause of salvation in lieu of Christ Himself and His Word. Hence, what we have here is a heretical false gospel of signs and wonders that alleges to be the cause of and evidence for salvations, no different from the unbiblical false gospel of John Wimber’s Vineyard church, or a number of other NAR Dominionist/Word of Faith pentecostals and charismatics. 
    Indeed, this package costs $69 from the company which purposes to cater to the religious interests of gnostic “Millenials” (the 18-29 year old bright visionaries) who, even though they may or may not be “born again” in the traditional sense, see through the hypocrisies of former modes of evangelism that the older generation was too stupid to perceive, and/or too set in their ways to consider changing. They have better ideas.
    You will see from the evidence that this is one more deceptive, below the radar device, implemented in stealth mode, that is “seeker friendly” as per Rick Warren’s “Purpose Driven” and the methodologies of Bill Hybels/Andy Stanley/Louie Giglio, etc. Only this program goes a lot further to destroy, drone style, the very foundations of the church. 
    This is one of many steps in bringing in the unregenerate into ministry in the church to subvert it from within to suit Satan and the world. As shown below, the hope is that within 20 years everything will change to the ways and values prescribed by the visionaries.

5 Forces That Will Reform the Church
The American church is entering a time of unprecedented upheaval. In 20 years, what we call the church will look very different from today.
Thinkers at this year’s national Future of the Church summit, sponsored by Group Publishing, envisioned a new–and quite hopeful–picture for the church of tomorrow. This group of church leaders, authors, media writers, academics and students grappled with a flurry of present trends to frame their futuristic perspectives.
They reviewed the American population’s declining participation in church activities. Less than 20 percent of the population attends a church service in a typical week. Four out of five churches say they’re stuck or in decline. Practically every American denomination is losing members year after year. Younger generations are fleeing the church in record numbers.
After hearing from experts, practitioners, the churched and the unchurched, the old and the young, the summit participants were asked to choose likely scenarios for several church crossroads directions. Here’s where they landed.
THE CHURCH IN 20 YEARS
An upward trend. Though things are likely to get worse before they get better, the church will grow again in America. It’s not likely to mimic the spiritual evaporation that Europe has seen. Rather, the trends may begin to look more like those found in China, where the church is flourishing organically despite the lack of a faith-friendly government.
Denominational dissipation. As the culture’s suspicion of institutions deepens, the cachet of a congregation’s affiliation to a denomination will continue to fade. The value–and cost–may become very difficult to justify. Denominations may be overshadowed by networks of like-minded congregations–not based on rules but on shared resources.
Values over personalities. Summit participants acknowledged that celebrity pastors–national and local–will continue to draw crowds on the strength of their personalities. But ultimately the churches of the future will be known more for their values than their human purveyors.
Outward focus. The majority of today’s churches direct almost all their attention, programs, personnel, facilities and budget toward the insiders, the members. But the thriving churches of tomorrow will balance their ministry with a deliberate focus toward those on the outside, many of whom will never become Sunday pew sitters.
Millennial reshape. After hearing data and personal accounts about the unique traits of the Millennial generation, summit participants concluded these young people (ages 18-29) are game-changers for the church. Unlike previous generations, Millennials will not succumb to the church’s longstanding traditions and ways of defining and doing church. They will not merely return to church-as-we-know-it once they start having children, as other generations have done. They will significantly reshape the church’s practices and attitudes according to their values.
What are some of these values? Gordon College president Michael Lindsay told participants that Millennials are uniquely driven to start new things. They’re drawn to authenticity, and they’re repulsed by anything that seems slick. “It’s about being vulnerable,” he said.
Gordon College student David Hicks said, “We don’t want adults who are trying to be edgy.” He told how he was turned off when his former church’s praise band used musical tactics to manipulate people into a false crescendo of worship. “I became cynical.” After leaving the church entirely, he now attends a more traditional church. “There are no ‘cool’ churches. I’m hungry for transcendence,” he said.
Barna Group vice president Roxy Wieman, herself a Millennial, also spoke about the hunger for transcendence–and community. But current church communities seem inauthentic, in part because Millennials have not had a hand in developing them.
Several speakers mentioned the Millennials’ innate desire to be involved, to participate. They’re not interested in being passive consumers or spectators at church. Leadership Journal managing editor Drew Dyck said Millennials “want to be heard from day one.”
Social entrepreneur Justin Mayo said Millennials want to reach out to and accept those the church often rejects. “You’re never going to reach someone you choose to isolate,” he said. “How do we create dialogue? Not by criticizing them at the front door. Do we even have the kind of relationship that allows us to say a hard thing to someone?”
David Hicks said, “We’re willing to go where they (people outside the church) are. We’re not asking them to come to our thing and clean themselves up first. We’re willing to enter their world and be ourselves.”

Forget Evangelism. Forget Discipleship.

Maybe it’s time to mothball two of the church’s favorite terms: evangelism and discipleship.
The current meaning of these terms has deteriorated into something far afield from the original intent.
Let’s start with evangelism. For most churches, evangelism boils down to one of two activities:
  • Lecture a roomful of people about sin and God.
  • Hope that stalwarts from your denomination move to town and join your church.
The past few months I’ve contemplated the effectiveness–or lack thereof–of these approaches. Then I traveled to the cornfields of Iowa. Here, a fledgling ministry called Cana exercises evangelism in a refreshing–and effective–way.
REAL EVANGELISM
Last year Barbara Huisman and a few of her friends talked about planting a church in their hometown of Fort Dodge, Iowa. They worked with their denomination to gain support, but they stipulated that they didn’t want to follow the typical church-planting model.
Instead, they dreamed of a “creative space where life and faith come together.” So they leased an old downtown storefront location across the street from a budget motel that rents rooms by the hour.

While most church plants establish themselves with a Sunday worship service, Cana started with a Tuesday night Lifetree Cafe, a weekly hour of conversation about life and faith. If people are interested in a regular church service, Barbara refers them to the many churches in the community.
At Cana, the team demonstrates what Barbara calls “radical hospitality.” It’s a highly relational approach that community members experience the moment they step inside.
Jodie, a woman struggling with addictive behavior, wandered into Cana’s Lifetree Cafe one dark Tuesday night and was immediately embraced and invited to sit with Joyce, a Cana regular who enveloped Jodie with the simple love of Christ. Jodie said that night changed her life. The non-judgmental acceptance overwhelmed her. And “God went through me like a lightning bolt,” she said.
She experienced evangelism–true evangelism. Through relationship. With God’s people and the Holy Spirit.
And then Jodie experienced discipleship. But not in the usual way.
REAL DISCIPLESHIP
Usually, the church approach to discipleship means sitting through informational classes and sermons. But that’s not how Jodie was discipled at Cana. She spent time with followers of Christ who lived out Cana’s motto: “Where your passion meets the community’s need. Where miracles happen!”
Jodie’s miracles began that first Tuesday night last year. Her addiction ended that night. Week after week God transformed her. She found her new and real identity in Christ. Cana’s mentors surrounded her with God’s love and guidance.
Then Jodie stepped forward and told Barbara she wanted to start a ministry. She wanted to form a recovery house for women struggling with addictions. It seemed like a far-fetched dream. But Barbara and the people of Cana encouraged Jodie. They suggested she seek funding from local churches. So Jodie met with leaders at a local church–and walked out with a $50,000 commitment for the recovery house.
Cana formed a new 501(c)(3) organization, and the Gateway to Discovery women’s center is on its way. But that’s not all. Other Cana people wanted to pursue their ministry passion for the arts. So they leased the space next to the Lifetree location to accommodate PieceWorks, a new non-profit arts ministry.
Still other people at Cana found they shared a love for horses. So they established Stable Connections, another Cana non-profit that uses horses for mental health therapy.

In just the past year, this little ministry outpost called Cana has launched three new non-profit organizations, a prayer ministry, and a community Bible time, in addition to their Lifetree Cafe.
It’s a picture of discipleship. Everyday people growing in their relationship with God, becoming active disciples of Jesus, carrying his love into the community.
I like the reclamation of evangelism and discipleship I found in Iowa. It’s not an academic exercise. It’s not mass-produced. It’s a personalized, relational approach. Much like Jesus modeled 2000 years ago.

Bill Gothard Resigns 
From Institute in Basic Life Principles 
Under Allegations of Sexual Abuse;

LTRP Note: On March 7th, Bill Gothard, the founder and president of the Institute in Basic Life Principles resigned from his position in the organization after allegations from over thirty women were made public that Gothard sexually harassed, and in one case out right sexually abused, these women while they were teens or young women. In preparing to make this announcement to Lighthouse Trails readers, we searched both secular and Christian media for a news story that would give a good representation of the situation. However, after we were unable to find such an article, we decided to post the article directly from the group—Recovering Grace—who blew the whistle on Gothard in the first place.
One of the women who has come forth is a woman named Charlotte. She has publicly testified that while she was a young homeschool teen and was sent to “work” at the Institute, Gothard preyed upon her, which led to his sexually abusing her.  The cult-like, legalistic, abusively authoritative teachings1 of Bill Gothard’s Institute provided a “perfect” platform for sexual abuse to occur where young girls were not taught to defend themselves against abuse (on the contrary, the opposite occurred). According to the criteria of the Lighthouse Trails book Seducers Among Our Childrenwritten by investigative sergeant Patrick Crough, Bill Gothard fits the profile of a sexual predator.
Below the article by Recovering Grace, we have posted two excerpts, one from Seducers Among Our Children titled “What is a Sexual Predator of Children?” by Patrick Crough and one titled “A Predator’s Toolkit” written by Gregory Reid, author of The Color Pain (also published by LT). These two excerpts are given to provide some help to parents to protect their children from sexual predators. Also below are some other resources such as a recent radio interview between Patrick Crough and Jan Markell and a video preview of a DVD called The Kinsey Syndrome (Adullam Films) (exposing the truth about Alfred Kinsey who was instrumental in the high incidence of sexual molestation today). The reason Lighthouse Trails has published and carried resources like this is because statistics show that a huge percentage of boys and girls are sexually abused before they are 18 years old. There has got to be voices speaking up and protecting them. Sexual abuse scars children. As Patrick Crough says in his book, we are to be the shepherd’s of children, protecting them from the wolves.
Let us remember that God’s Word does not take harming children lightly:

But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and thathe were drowned in the depth of the sea. (Matthew 18:6)

Article By Recovering Grace website:
On March 6, 2014, Administrative Director David Waller communicated via email to ATI families that Mr. Gothard has “resigned as president of the Institute in Basic Life Principles, its Board of Directors, and its affiliated entities.” Mr. Waller indicated the board’s desire to appoint interim leadership, and named Chris Hogan as one who “will play an active role in the upcoming conferences as president of ATI.” This follows the report on February 27 in which World Magazine confirmed that the Board of IBLP had placed Bill Gothard on administrative leave, “in order to further investigate the mounting claims of sexual harassment and misconduct that have been reported on the Recovering Grace website.”

The letter goes on to state that Mr. Gothard has “communicated to the Board of Directors his desire to follow Matthew 5:23–24 and listen to those who have ‘ought against’ him” and states that his resignation is motivated by a desire to give full attention to the issues at hand (view the full letter).

On February 3, Recovering Grace made a public case that Bill Gothard had disqualified himself from ministry by his actions. In doing so, we called for Mr. Gothard to repent and be reconciled to those who have been damaged under his ministry and teachings. While we acknowledge the range of emotions that our readers are likely feeling in light of this letter, we do not take joy in this announcement, and we understand the gravity and sadness of this situation. Mr. Gothard’s resignation will doubtless produce relief in some of our readers and deep disappointment in others. RICHARD WURMBRAND’S SON, 
MICHAEL WURMBRAND, COMES FORTH- 
ASKS “V.O.M.” TO ALLOW INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION OF SEXUAL, FINANCIAL ISSUES

On March 14th, Lighthouse Trails received an e-mail from Michael Wurmbrand, the son of the late Richard Wurmbrand, founder of Voice of the Martyrs. In order to verify the authenticity of the letter we received, we contacted VOM first. A man answering the phone and listening to our question transferred us to a message machine. We left our question but did not receive a call back as of the writing of this article. We then searched on the Internet and found a phone number for Michael Wurmbrand. We called and had a ten-minute conversation with him. We also have had e-mail correspondence with him since. After our phone call with him, we were convinced that this letter below is indeed from Richard Wurmbrand’s son. We have also been able to verify many of the statements he has made below. We also believe Michael is not making these statements out of any vindictive motive.
Some may be asking why we are posting this, given the fact that VOM works to help persecuted Christians worldwide. A few comments on that:
First, as Lighthouse Trails has always maintained, the power of sin lies in its secrecy; and this is especially true in cases of child sexual abuse. According to Michael Wurmbrand’s letter, after VOM director Tom White committed suicide on the same day a police investigation was opened on allegations that White had molested a 10-year-old girl,1 Michael Wurmbrand requested that an independent investigation be conducted, especially given the fact that the Chief of Police in Bartlesville (the city where VOM exists) is also on the board of VOM, and the Bartlesville police closed the case shortly after White’s death. Michael explains below what happened after he made that request.
Second, if indeed Michael’s statements are true (and we have no reason or evidence to doubt they are), then in all fairness, the body of Christ needs to know these things. There have been other concerns about VOM (ecumenism, Catholic sympathies, contemplative, etc.), and to ignore these important issues is wrong, especially in view of the acceleration of worldwide spiritual deception happening today.
Third, as we witness various Christian organizations being exposed for sexual, financial, and other scandals (such as the recent allegations by over thirty women against Bill Gothard, the serious plagiarism by Mark Driscoll, the demise of Vision Forum (a major player in homeschooling resources, and so forth), two things come to our mind:
First, the secular media is using these stories to make it look like this is how most fundamentalist conservative Christians behave.
Second, we think of the Scripture that talks tells us “judgment beginning in the house of the God” (1 Peter 4:17). The evangelical/Protestant church is in big trouble. It needs to be shaken in order to return to its “first love.” Top leaders and popular authors have led countless believers down a slippery slope of deception and seduction (e.g.,  Gothard’s cult-like legalism and ultra-authoritarianism, Driscoll’s contemplative promotion and mockery of the Bible’s warning of the end-times, Thomas Nelson’s altering of Jesus Calling to make it look more “Christian”). The church is filled with mega-corporation-style organizations that act as if they can do anything they want while they toy with the emotional and spiritual lives of millions and play catch-me-if-you-can. Add to this the utter catastrophe of contemplative mysticism (i.e., occultism) overtaking countless Christian organizations, schools, and denominations, and we’ve got the makings for an apostate church. But many of these Christian “leaders” are beginning to be exposed. While we know that the liberal secular media and the emerging church will use these stories for political gain and actually to cause confused Christians to come over to their side, we also know that God can use these situations to bring about genuine conversion and repentance among many. Already Lighthouse Trails has heard from many believers who have repented after being deceived by the “Jesus” of Jesus Calling.
And this is why we are compelled to post articles like this letter below by Michael Wurmbrand—to bring light to areas of darkness but also to defend true Christianity, to say to the world that there are believers in Christ all over the world who day after day, year after year serve the Lord faithfully, who do not molest children, do not plagiarize, do not practice the contemplative “stillness” in order to know God, and do not steal money or grow monstrous corporations that knock down everything in their path. While we know that 1 John tells us we are liars if we say we do not sin (1 John 1:8-10) (for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God), it also says if we continue in sin, we do not have God in our lives (1 John 3:6-10).
While it is not the intention of Lighthouse Trails to destroy any ministry, we cannot in good conscience push under the rug situations that come to our attention when they affect so many. Our hope for these ministries is that they would walk in repentance and godliness just as God has called all Christians to do so.
We do have a concern in the midst of these “kingdoms” crumbling and that is for the Christians who have been followers of these organizations. Many of them are sincere conservative Bible-believing Christians, and they are the ones who are going to be most hurt by what their leaders have done. For example, millions of homeschool families have sought out the teachings of Bill Gothard. As they learn that their leader has been sexually assaulting young girls for the past number of decades, will these dear families swing to the opposite of the pendulum and enter the emerging/new spirituality? We have heard rumors that this is already happening to some of them. They now realize that Gothard’s teachings were wrong; sadly, rather than finding what true biblical Christianity is, many will merely turn to another extreme and perhaps even away from God all together, blaming Him for what man has done.
This situation with homeschoolers is serious. Even Michael Wurmbrand told us that VOM has been targeting American homeschoolers with campaign literature. And it was just recently that a major homeschool curriculum CEO (from Vision Forum) stepped down after admitting to an extra-marital affair. The entire organization shut down, leaving a vacuum within the homeschool world. What is going to happen to these homeschoolers? Who or what is going to fill the void? Sadly, it may not be true Christianity.
We have carefully and prayerfully considered the ramifications of posting this letter from Michael. We are not the only ones doing so in a spirit of deep concern. One very good friend of Richard Wurmbrand’s posted his own thoughts about this, stating,

[Michael Wurmbrand] is very serious and he is concerned about his father’s and mother’s names being used to raise money that he says is not going to the persecuted peoples of the world, but is rather being misused by “The Voice of the Martyrs.”

There is one more issue we want to address and that is the allegations of sexual abuse that were brought against Tom White by the parents of a 10-year-old girl. When we first posted the story about White’s suicide last year, someone commented to us that it was unlikely that Tom White molested a child and that perhaps this was a conspiracy of murder against White by Muslims angry at VOM for their work in Middle-eastern countries. As we have examined the facts that we have been able to obtain (including the testimony by Michael Wurmbrand to us by phone where he told us he knew the family, as well as a pastor who spoke with the father of the girl and posted the account online and who stated: “there is no doubt the abuse occurred”), we have no reason to doubt that the allegations are legitimate. Thus, it is more than reasonable for Voice of the Martyrs to be willing to allow an independent investigation into these allegations and also any other possible sexual abuses against children that may have occurred within their organization. It is a proven fact that most child predators do not molest just one child during the course of their lifetimes.
And now, the letter we received from Michael Wurmbrand:
Dear sisters and brethren in Christ:
This sad letter you are reading comes from Michael Wurmbrand, the son of the late Rev. Richard Wurmbrand, who spent fourteen years in the communist prisons of Romania, author of the book Tortured For Christ, a book of valiant Christian testimony under communist persecution that has been translated in over 85 languages. My parents died in 2000-2001, and I am now 74 years old.
Against my express request NOT TO DO SO, the mission Voice of the Martyrs of Bartlesville (VOM), Oklahoma, USA and its international affiliates, continue to use Richard Wurmbrand, Sabina Wurmbrand, my parents’ persona, pictures, writings and books, my persona also to obtain your donations!
Tom White, the past Voice of the Martyrs Chairman for more than 20-years, committed suicide in April, 2012, only two to three hours after an accusation of child molestation (pedophilia) of a 10-years old girl was formally filed by her parents with the local police, and while the Bartlesville, OK. police were searching to arrest him. This terrible event made world news. At the time of his committing suicide, Tom White had a $140,000+, plus perks, yearly salary and very substantial travel and expense accounts used in his extensive and frequent international travel year after year. Since the suspected perpetrator was dead, the police closed any further investigation of the molestation. The police chief and the former mayor of the town of Bartlesville, OK. were personally serving on the Board of Directors of Voice of the Martyrs. Some directors are related or get income from the organization.
I asked in writing of the Voice of the Martyrs Board of Directors for an independent investigation, to be undertaken from outside of VOM. The investigation in the famous legal action in England of Jimmy Saville, the BBC children program head while alive, started with only 2 cases BUT there were more than 600 pedophilia complaints after Saville died. In the last 4 years, the state of Arizona, for instance, failed to investigate 6,000 cases of children molestation. Being the son of Richard Wurmbrand, a person of my background and position could have more inside information than I can discuss publicly. I asked therefore for an independent investigation!
The main question in the letter I wrote to the entire Voice of the Martyrs Board of Directors was worded as follows: “In a Christian spirit of love and faith, if you want to continue using the names, persona and copyrights of my parents, I ask first that you do not try to accomplish this in an adversarial way through lawyers, etc. but rather in an amiable way by fulfilling only one request for the board to decide and approve: Please allow and pay for an independent “blue ribbon” commission … to investigate within the next two months, back at least two years, all Tom White’s travel points, contacts and especially financial expenditures to establish and put to rest any suspicions re. child molestation. Sorry, whether you like it or not, this unpleasant event that happened to VOM with its Chairman during twenty years cannot be dispensed with as just ‘a family affair’ or an unfortunate sudden decision. If you do not intend to accept the above request, the other decision I ask you to take is not to use the name Wurmbrand any more.”
Only 4 days after I addressed this letter to the Board of Directors, I received a curt letter of termination of employment. No “sorry” and no “thank you” for my founding the organization or the many years of service! My letter now for more than a year, has not been answered!
I should be entitled to make such a request since:

*  Voice of the Martyrs published for years a specially dedicated children’s magazine. This was done by sharing mailing lists with organizations focusing on families and children;
* My person, my life, and our family Wurmbrand story was used in this magazine;
* Without my knowledge, without my permission, a very laudatory biography of mine was written, printed and distributed to tens of thousands of American children;
* In order to obtain donations from the parents, the organization tried to gain credibility and goodwill with tens of thousands of Christian children in home-schooling families.

Donors should be aware that:

*  Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) spent $28 million dollars — not on the mission field but to build its own headquarter thus in economic times difficult for us all, encouraging construction in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, USA, a town of only about 32,000. To my knowledge, the previous headquarters of VOM in the same town cost in the neighborhood of about $90,000! To read more, [click here]. The present chairman of VOM is a former mayor of Bartlesville and was part of the city leadership.

* This was done in secret, until the buildings were erected. Neither I nor the donors were told of such grandiose projects. It is hard to believe this could be done, but correspondence I display on the web (see link below), should convince you. I worked with VOM from Los Angeles, California, USA and never was part of the VOM board of directors. The donors only saw money spent for projects, and they trusted that the word “projects” referred to missionary work, like helping widows of Christians killed in Nigeria!
* A repeated offender 3rd degree felon, who as of 2013 was STILL UNDER A-10-YEARS CONVICTION SENTENCE AS AN EMBEZZLER was named the Voice of the Martyrs Vice President. Tens of thousands of dollars out of contributions for supposed missionary work were extended as a loan to him to pay back some of what he stole and escape parole supervision. *All of the above occurred while, at the same time, without any reasons proffered, they sent a termination of employment letter to me, Richard Wurmbrand’s son, who founded the mission, four days only after I asked for an independent investigation of the expenses and travels of the suicidal and suspected pedophile past chairman of VOM, USA.
* Voice of the Martyrs had agreed reluctantly in 2001 to help about 100 believers who were imprisoned 5-10 years for their faith in communist prisons in Romania, currently destitute in their 80s and 90s, with less than $1 (yes, one dollar) a month. As outrageous as it sounds, considering tens of millions of dollars solicited from you, it is documented. It was raised in the following year to the value of about 2 tanks of gas/month worth of help only because I wrote feet of email messages and renounced a total of over $100,000 of my salary over four years (I accepted being paid only $500/month!) just so these Christian martyrs would be helped. *A fundraiser for VOM was promised to be paid a percentage or cut of the funds he raised! We are far indeed from charitable actions through which one sacrifices for the interests of others.

After I brought all of these facts to light, I was asked also to keep quiet, not to rock the boat. Before being laid off I was offered substantial contractual financial incentives not to “badmouth” VOM. Some of the organizations endorsing Voice of the Martyrs have interrelated employees and interests. When I approached them, they were shy and sore afraid for their own interests to insist my letter be answered. Some pathetic answers like: “Do not cast the first stone,” “king Solomon made mistakes,” “we might also sin,” or “promise to keep correspondence private only” displayed the hypocrisy to protect the flow of donations rather than any interest in protecting possible children victims! Some answers were outright sarcastic, as if my requesting a proper investigation regarding suspected pedophilia among “Christian missionaries” would be some joke.
In the past, Voice of the Martyrs had written a dedication about myself sent to tens of thousands stating: “To the Rev. Michael Wurmbrand, who has lived his life in a fishbowl among both friends and enemies, and has done so with dignity to the glory of God. We are grateful for the numerous personal interviews in which he shared his memories with patience and enthusiasm.” As soon as I asked for this independent investigation, the VOM attitude of respect towards myself I enjoyed for years turned into one of incredible vindictiveness. Christians who were in the know could not believe how it was possible. The false answers given to those who inquired were that this is a personal (?!?) conflict with Michael Wurmbrand we try to solve with prayer and mediation! In reality, VOM employees were expressly forbidden to have contact with me, so as not to lose some income and employment positions from [one of the] largest employers in Bartlesville, OK. Same employees had before vied to be photographed with me and get my autograph.
The worst vindictive act towards myself though was the refusal on the part of VOM of my simple request to dump or allow myself even pay to withdraw immediately from the VOM circulation advertising, about 2,000 copies of Tortured For Christ, my father’s book, published by VOM with a preface by, and having right in the middle, a portrait of Tom White, the past chairman who had committed suicide after the police-filed accusation of suspected pedophilia. I was answered IN WRITING (by the convicted felon-embezzler who had meantime become Vice President of VOM, see above) that my request is morally wrong. I was written: “Tom White was VOM,” and according to VOM, I have no right to ask that my father’s name not be associated with this past chairman — even if he committed suicide under a strong suspicion of pedophilia. VOM even claimed to know apparently better than the parents of the victim, if there was or not substance to the police complaint. To spite me, the book showing Tom’s picture continued to be widely advertised and even offered for free for 6 more months following Tom’s suicide. VOM knew that during the first month my family arrived to the United States in the end of 1966, I had personally typed on a clunky typewriter four manuscript versions of this book. How could my request be refused?
How could I have foreseen that in a case of blatant suspected child-molestation some Christian VOM leaders I approached, imitated the priest and Levite in the Parable of the Good Samaritan, trying their best re. suspected pedophilia, to “pass by on the other side,” so as to maintain their perks! John the Baptist was not beheaded because he sermonized in general asking people to repent. Against his own personal interest, he put his life at risk to denounce the sin of Herod, the ruler of the day. What about “missionary outreach” to poor “persecuted Christians?” Voice of the Martyrs, with its opulent ($28 million) headquarter built out of your sacrificial contributions, makes a mockery of the sacrifice of persecuted Christians like my parents. Imagine a surgeon insisting to operate, having no time to clean his hands after searching in garbage. What patient has any use for such a surgeon? The betrayer of [our] Lord Jesus, Judas, in his apparently most “unselfish” enunciation of a project to help the poor, was but a thief. (Indeed the Gospel of John 12:6 writes: “This he said, not that he cared for the poor, BUT BECAUSE HE WAS A THIEF!”)
VOM published even how within months of our arrival in the United States, from 1967 on, I worked together with my parents Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand, to start what is now Voice of the Martyrs. Recently released documents from the archives of the Romanian secret police prove the communists had issued an order to kill our entire family.
We started what is now Voice of the Martyrs under a communist sentence of death. When I was only a child, the communists forcefully took away my parents to communist prisons. I suffered plenty. My parents died with a good name. I do not want to  allow VOM to use my parents’ good name, to raise money under false pretenses. I wrote the VOM directors: “If you enjoy, for motivations of your own, to wallow in the mire of suspected pedophilia go ahead. If you do not want to accept an independent investigation and complete transparency of your dealings, I begged you do not use my father’s long years of suffering in communist prisons and the intense suffering of his whole family to raise money from naive donors.” I was written by VOM, when asking help for formerly persecuted Christians under communism, now in their 90s, “we are technically out of money!…there will be NO check requests approved for anything other than absolutely essential” only to find out later that $9.5 million were available not for mission work, but for construction work in Oklahoma (see above link).
Christian parents please protect your children! Consider how grave it is to allow your children to trust and be reached by a missionary organization having had a case of suspected pedophilia and a suicide because of it in its midst, and then terminating me, its founder so as not to have to respond to a request for an independent investigation of possible child molestation. After all the laudatory words published of me, they also tried to badmouth me. If you are a minister, I can only beg you to share this letter with your congregation.

I tried to document the facts recited above, but think on your own: How can “Christian missionaries” in a good Christian conscience even indulge to build themselves an opulent $28,000,000 headquarter from your donations, while withholding help to persecuted Christians in far away lands badly in need of your donations? Love of money is the root of all evil. A way to stop evil is to stop financing it. If you were inspired by the Wurmbrand family story of suffering to donate to Voice of the Martyrs or its international affiliates in the ICA, as the only son of Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand, I humbly ask you not to. My parents’ Christian life-vision has been misused by Voice of the Martyrs.
Tortured for Christ circulated throughout the world with more than 10,000,000 copies. Inside the $28 million Voice of the Martyrs headquarter prominently named as the Richard Wurmbrand Center, there is a Wurmbrand museum. My own mother’s Bible to be displayed there was obtained from me under false pretenses. I have both moral and legal rights to the persona of my parents, even regarding the unauthorized use of my own name, pictures, etc. It would take a very long time and a lot of money to try to stop such use through courts. VOM would employ the millions of dollars of donations to fight me in court while my income is very limited. If you still want to help projects started by my parents, Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand, now hanging in the air, please help me reclaim my parents and my family name. Like the first Christians please ask: “Brethren, what shall we do?” (Book of Acts 2:37) You may write to me at the address below.

Stimulating images that provide spiritual experiences are an essential element of the emerging church. While many are bewildered as to why their churches are darkening their sanctuaries and setting up prayer stations with candles, incense, and icons, promoters of the emerging church movement say they know exactly what they are doing. Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Fellowship explains:

Everything in the service needs to preach–architecture, lighting, songs, prayers, fellowship, the smell–it all preaches. All five senses must be engaged to experience God.1

Often, Christians who have been attending church all their lives find the changes their pastors are implementing disconcerting, as they see the trend away from Bible teaching to multi-sensory stimulation. Dan Kimball quotes an older gentleman who had expressed his concerns about the implementation of an emerging style of mystical worship:

Dan, why did you use incense? I am not sure I like walking over to those prayer stations with all those props; can’t we just pray from our seats? Why aren’t you just preaching just the Bible? I wasn’t too comfortable when you had those times of silence, and it’s a little too dark in there for me.2

The comment by this gentleman in his seventies is typical of the comments I hear from many as I travel and speak at conferences around North America. But comments like this not only come from the elderly; many younger people are saying the same things. Both young and old are becoming concerned as they see multi-sensory mystical worship replace the preaching and teaching of the Word.
Nevertheless, Kimball and many others are convinced they are on the right path based on their view that emerging generations desire a multi-sensory worship experience. For example, in a chapter of Kimball’s book titled “Creating a Sacred Space for Vintage Worship” Kimball states:

[A]esthetics is not an end in itself. But in our culture, which is becoming more multi-sensory and less respectful of God, we have a responsibility to pay attention to the design of the space where we assemble regularly. In the emerging culture, darkness represents spirituality. We see this in Buddhist temples, as well as Catholic and Orthodox churches. Darkness communicates that something serious is happening.3

Kimball further states:

How ironic that returning to a raw and ancient form of worship is now seen as new and even cutting edge. We are simply going back to a vintage form of worship which has been around for as long as the church has been in existence.4

Of course, that is not really true. There is no evidence in the Bible that the disciples or the early church turned to a “raw” form of worship, especially one that needed darkness to help them feel more spiritual. If the early believers were in darkness, it would have been because they were meeting in secret to avoid arrest. To insinuate they were thinking about multi-sensory practices is an insult to their courage and devotion to God. Nowhere in Scripture is there even a hint of this. A mother told a Federal court this week that school officials in Pennsylvania told her that they were within their rights to strip-search her daughter, asserting that the girl “does not have constitutional rights because she is in a private school.”

The incident, which occurred last year, saw officials at the Milton Hershey School in Harrisburg order the girl, identified only as “C.W.,” to remove her shirt because they suspected she had a cell phone on her person.
Such devices are considered contraband at the school, which is described as “cost-free, private, coeducational home and school for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students from the families of low income, limited resources and social need operating in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.”
The court complaint states that the school’s nurse “touched C.W. all over her body – including her chest – feeling for a smartphone.”
No phone was found.
“After the strip search, C.W., feeling violated, was visibly upset, crying and shaken,” according to the case.
The mother, Trina Howze, is suing the school, saying that the procedure was conducted without her knowledge or presence.
When Howze called a student home supervisor, she was told that “C.W. does not have constitutional rights because she is in a private school and that the school is backed up by the Derry County Police Department; and ‘it is what it is, Ms. Howze.’”
Howze’s complaint states that her daughter’s rights under the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment ensure “personal security and bodily integrity,” and freedom from governmental intrusion.
“C.W. had the right to be free from the intrusive physical examination,” the lawsuit states. “Plaintiff, Howze had a right to attend the strip search. The School Defendants violated those rights by ordering the strip search of Plaintiff C.W. without the consent of the Plaintiff, Howze.”
The case also notes that the school officials actions were “malicious, intentional, and displayed with a reckless indifference to the rights, safety and well being of the Plaintiffs.”
Howze’s attorneys are pressing for damages for violations of civil rights and due process, negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, assault and battery. They are seeking in excess of $75,000, plus punitive damages, attorney’s fees, costs and injunctive relief.
Local law professor Randy Lee questioned whether the case will succeed in Federal court, noting that the Constitution protects again government intrusion, but not necessarily against private citizens or organizations. Lee suggested that Mrs Howze should seek a different legal route.
In a statement to the media, school communications officers said that they couldn’t comment on the suit because they had not seen it, adding “We take their privacy rights very seriously.”

On April 3rd, Richard Foster’s Renovare organization will be presenting the Formation for Whole Life conference in Houston, Texas.
According to several sources, including Rick Warren,1 Christianity Today,2 and Lighthouse Trails, Richard Foster is a key player in the contemplative prayer movement (aka: Spiritual Formation movement). Speakers at this year’s Renovare conference include contemplative figures Ruth Haley Barton,3 Mark Scandrette,4 Richard Foster, and Kyle Strobel.5 Joining the team of speakers will be Larry Crabb, a popular evangelical author and speaker, who years ago switched from a psychology focus to a focus on Spiritual Formation (i.e., contemplative prayer).6
While it is not surprising to see Larry Crabb sharing a platform with other contemplatives, what is troubling is that Crabb continues to receive acceptance by Christian leaders. In 2011, Crabb spoke to the student body at  Liberty University. In 2012 and 2013, he spoke at the Billy Graham Training Center. In 2012, he was invited to Moody Church (the church once pastored by Harry Ironside and D.L. Moody, now pastored by Erwin Lutzer)—7 (click here to see video of that Sunday).
During that 2012 “sermon” by Larry Crabb at Moody Church, Crabb introduced Jesus as more of an example or model to us (one that we can be like) than a Savior to us. This is the crux of the contemplative/emerging message. This is where Spiritual Formation comes in. Since to be truly Christ-like is not possible without Christ in us (born-again), the contemplatives turn to the disciplines (with the emphasis on the mystical), and this gives them the illusion of being close to God (the mystical experience produces this euphoric feeling). Crabb’s conclusion was that we need to search for our own “center[s].” His psychology-filled, Scripture-starving sermon at Moody did not point to Jesus Christ and His magnificence but rather pointed to how the attributes of God can make us a great community having great relationships. This is the focus of the emergent church where personal salvation is set aside for great relationships and community social justice.
Lighthouse Trails editors spoke with Erwin Lutzer a number of years ago expressing concern about his endorsement in Larry Crabb’s book, The Papa Prayer, where Crabb praised the role that “centering prayer” (i.e., mantra-type meditation) had in his life. In that phone conversation, Lutzer asked us to please remember to love all the brothers and sisters in the body of Christ. He felt this was more important than criticizing others and naming names, and he said that we (Lighthouse Trails) may not really be qualified to identify spiritual deception within the church.8
In a 2012 article Lighthouse Trails wrote regarding Larry Crabb’s spiritual affinities, we stated:

Perhaps one of the most sure-tell indicators of where Larry Crabb’s spiritual sympathies lie and why he’s not a good match for Dwight L. Moody’s church can be found in a book Crabb wrote the foreword to. The book, Sacred Companions (written by David Benner), heartily recommends a plethora of contemplative mystics: Thomas Keating, Henri Nouwen, Basil Pennington, Richard Foster, John of the Cross, Gerald May, John Main, Thomas Merton, Richard Rohr, Alan Jones and several others. Many of these are panentheistic (God is in all), universalist (all are saved), and interspiritual (all paths lead to God). Ray Yungen talked about Benner’s book in the first edition of A Time of Departing. Yungen stated:
“[C]ontemplative prayer stands on the threshold of exploding worldwide. Dr. Larry Crabb . . . has written the foreword to a book [Spiritual Companions] that expounds on the future of spiritual direction in the evangelical church. . . . It is safe to assume then that we are looking at a contemplative approach. With that in mind, Dr. Crabb predicted [in Sacred Companions]: ‘The spiritual climate is ripe. Jesus seekers across the world are being prepared to abandon the old way of the written code for the new way of the Spirit.’” (ATOD, 1st ed., p. 137)

As Lighthouse Trails has often said, when Christian pastors and leaders endorse or share platforms with those who are teaching serious heresy (contemplative negates the Gospel itself with panentheistic/universalistic/interspiritual roots),9 this not only sends a confusing message to the body of Christ, it actually puts many in harm’s way. Isn’t it time for Christian leaders who name the name of Jesus Christ to stop promoting contemplative advocates?

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Maryanne Godboldo endured a mother’s worst nightmare when in May 2011 police and social workers burst into her home without a warrant, seized her then 13-year-old daughter, locked the child in a psychiatric hospital and purportedly doped her with dangerous antipsychotic drugs – but the devoted mom refused to allow authorities rip the little girl from her arms without a fight.
Instead, Godboldo, a former dance teacher who had never before had a run-in with the law, fought to defend her daughter, Ariana, in a 10-hour standoff with a Detroit SWAT team. The standoff resulted in eight felony charges, as authorities say Godboldo fired a gun into the ceiling when police broke down her door. In a hearing Friday in 36th District Court, Judge Richard Skutt dropped felony charges against Godboldo for allegedly discharging her firearm. Protesters rallied outside the courthouse in support of the mother during the hearing.
“This court finds that the defendant in fact did use reasonable force in this case – did not use deadly force … to prevent an illegal attachment, to prevent the removal of her child by the Detroit police,” said Skutt. “This court feels (Detroit police) did not, one, have the authority to remove the child at that time.”
Goldboldo has filed a lawsuit against Wayne County and several individuals in U.S. District Court.
It would have been an inconceivable act to most Americans just a few years ago: Armed police show up at family home, forcibly remove a child without a warrant and jail anyone who stands in their way. As WND reported, even the Supreme Court has recently allowed a lower court judgment supporting the use of a violent SWAT attack in a man’s home based merely on suspicion of wrongdoing.
In the Detroit case, Gosboldo said police and Child Protective Services lied to her, promising that Ariana would be placed in the custody of Maryanne’s sister. She said they also assured her they would not drug Ariana.
“All I wanted to do was protect my daughter,” Gosboldo said. “When they forced her to take Risperdal, Haldol, Lithium and several vaccines, without my knowledge or consent, they almost killed her,” she said. “It was attempted murder.”
Detroit 36th District Court Judge Ronald Giles initially tossed out the charges on the grounds that the child removal order police used to attempt to gain access to Ariana was invalid and, subsequently, all of the evidence in the Godboldo case was inadmissible. But the Court of Appeals reversed his decision – with a catch. The appeals judges actually suggested in their order a different argument that Godboldo’s lawyers can use: an argument of self-defense.
The argument, based on a landmark 2012 Michigan Supreme Court decision, People v. Moreno, retroactively upheld the “common-law” right to resist unlawful arrests, warrant-less home invasions and other unlawful conduct by the police.
“The Court of Appeals, [Godboldo attorney Allison] Folmar and I believe, are expressing another set of facts that the court should look at,” said Godboldo attorney Byron Pitts. ”That basic premise that this was a break in by the police, into a single mother’s home protecting her child remains the case and that has never been challenged.”
Godboldo’s fight began four years ago when she made a “difficult” decision to enroll her daughter in public school after several years of homeschooling.
Ariana was required to get a combination of TDAP and meningitis vaccines so she could attend public school, so Godboldo brought her daughter to a local pediatrician who administered the shots.
“Her eyes glazed over, and she immediately became ill. She refused to eat and wouldn’t even play with the dog. That’s how I knew something was really wrong. It all went downhill from there,” Godboldo told WND.
Folmer said Ariana had trouble focusing after receiving the immunizations.
“She wasn’t thinking straight, and she was reaching for things that weren’t there,” she said.
That is when Ariana’s downward spiral began.
“Ariana never had these kinds of problems before,” Godboldo said. “So I took her back to the doctor, and the doctor said it wasn’t the vaccines and referred us to a county mental health agency.”
Godboldo said she was convinced Ariana’s condition was not psychiatric, so she continued to seek the assistance of physicians to treat Ariana’s deteriorating condition. The doctors referred Godboldo to a psychiatric day treatment facility. The mother said she later discovered the facility had a reputation for conducting clinical trials without proper patient consent.
“They wanted to prescribe Risperdal after 10 days, but I told them I didn’t want her on the medication because I wanted tests done first,” she said.
Godboldo took the child to two neurologists and several other doctors who ran further tests. The tests failed to reveal the cause of Ariana’s problems. Doctors referred Godboldo back to the psychiatric facility where, with reservation, she signed a consent form that allowed the doctors to place Ariana on Risperdal. But she said it also allowed her to take Ariana off of the medication at any time.
“Risperdal made Ariana worse,” Folmer said. “She started becoming aggressive.”
Risperdal, an antipsychotic drug cited in several class-action lawsuits for causing breast growth in men, was the subject of a $2.2 billion settlement last November – one of the largest health-care fraud settlements in U.S. history – between maker Johnson & Johnson and the United States Department of Justice, where Johnson & Johnson was accused of promoting the drug for “uses not approved as safe and effective by the FDA and payment of kickbacks to physicians and to the nation’s largest long-term care pharmacy provider,” according to the Justice Department.
Folmer said the problem of authorities “kidnapping” children is not an isolated one.
“For every child they put in foster care in Michigan, the state gets $1,200 for the paperwork,” she said. “This has become a money making business for taking children.”
By the time Godboldo got an answer from a holistic physician about the cause of Ariana’s debilitating neurological symptoms – brain inflammation resulting from the vaccinations – Detroit Child Protective Services worker Mia Wenk had stepped in.
“I told them I was not putting my child back on that medication,” she said.
Godboldo’s refusal resulted in the 10-hour standoff with police when she refused to allow officers into her home without a warrant so they could remove Ariana.
“A CPS worker can walk in judge’s chamber and get a rubber stamp to violate someone’s human and constitution right to steal a person’s child,” Folmer said.
Three days after the order was “rubber stamped,” Wenk and authorities showed up at Godboldo’s doorstep.
“Mary was home cooking dinner for Ariana, and she heard banging on her door,” Folmer said.
That’s when according to court documents, Lt. Michael Nied, also a member of the Michigan National Guard, “retrieved a crowbar from his car, approached the home’s side door, yelled “police,” and pried [it] open.”
Ariana began to scream as the security of her home, and later her mother’s arms, was torn from her grasp.
“Ariana was crying screaming, and Maryanne played classical music to calm her down,” Folmer said.
According to court documents, Officer Kevin Simpson, who was present during the standoff, testified that Lt. Nied did not stop there.
“[He]went up the stairs inside the door, toward another door on a landing, and after finding it locked, attempted to kick in the door,” Simpson said.
When he heard a “loud noise that sounded like a gunshot from the door’s other side,” Simpson said officers retreated back down the stairs. Another officer noticed a “white powder” on Nied’s shoulder, which investigators later identified as plaster powder dislodged by a bullet. The circumstances surrounding the gunshot were heard in court Friday, where Wayne County prosecutors alleged someone inside of Maryanne’s home fired the shot.
Folmer, angered at authorities’ decision to use unauthorized force to gain entry into the home and take the child for psychiatric treatment, asked, “Who makes that decision in this country? A parent’s decision is not trumped by the government.”
Officers separated mom and daughter, both carried away in the back of squad cars – Godboldo to jail for five days – and Ariana back to the mental health institution.
“I had never been to court over this when they showed up to take my daughter. A social worker was making all of these calls,” Godboldo said.
While Ariana was in the custody of the state and the mental health facility – without Godboldo’s knowledge or consent – doctors put the child back on Risperdal and added Haldol to her regimen, a drug commonly used as a “chemical straightjacket” on schizophrenic patients.
Folmer said they also administered 10 more vaccines to the 13-year-old, one of which is the HPV vaccine, which inoculates against the sexually transmitted Human Papilloma Virus.
To keep Ariana from “escaping” the facility, Folmer said workers even confiscated her prosthetic leg.
When Ariana was released, she reportedly arrived home with bruises and cigarette burns on her body.
Godboldo said, “For weeks when it started getting dark at night, Ariana would scream for hours, and it took my sister and family to help me calm her down.”

Heads up:  Liberty is offering yoga under the class name FLOW [see screen shot below].  I never heard of flow, but a quick Google filled me in!  As an alumni of LU, I am so concerned with where they are heading . . .  [T]here are many professors there that are clueless about the path LU has been taking…. they are all in my prayers.  Also, we were there this week for a homeschool basketball tournament, and I noticed they are holding classes for the Daniel Plan.  Gotta keep parents informed so they can warn their children, grandchildren, etc.

As you can see from the Liberty University page from the link above, the class called Flow is none other than a disguised name for Yoga. The description of the class is: “A rejuvenating vinyasa practice that will fluidly guide you from one pose to the next – uniting the breath and movement. This class will work all muscle groups, increasing your total body strength, balance, and flexibility.”
Now listen to what Yoga Journal (the expert publication for Yoga) has to say about vinyasa Yoga:
What do these diverse phenomena have in common? They are all vinyasas, progressive sequences that unfold with an inherent harmony and intelligence. “Vinyasa” is derived from the Sanskrit term nyasa, which means “to place,” and the prefix vi, “in a special way”—as in the arrangement of notes in a raga, the steps along a path to the top of a mountain, or the linking of one asana to the next. In the yoga world the most common understanding of vinyasa is as a flowing sequence of specific asanas coordinated with the movements of the breath. The six series of Pattabhi Jois’s Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga are by far the best known and most influential.1
This isn’t the first time Liberty University has snuck Yoga classes into the school. In 2007, Lighthouse Trails reported that LU had incorporated Yoga classes into their Physical Education program. The school received a lot of complaints because of the report and eventually removed the class (we think). But now, under disguise, Yoga is back at Liberty.
Lighthouse Trails isn’t too surprised at the Yoga classes at Liberty, but many people who still believe Liberty University is a biblical school will be. For us, we’ve got a list of articles we’ve been writing about Liberty for nearly eight years, and we know the direction the school has been going.
We’ll never forget a phone call we received from a Liberty University donor once a number of years ago. He said as he stood on campus one day watching students walking by, he couldn’t believe how many of them were carrying around a copy of Rob Bell’s Velvet Elvis. Rather than the students being warned about Bell, the emerging church, and spiritual deception, they were being offered Yoga classes (as they still are today). And any warnings have fallen on deaf ears.

Dear Chief Roper: 

I am writing on behalf of the Freedom From Religion Foundation and local members who object 
to the Birmingham Police Department Chief promoting Christianity. FFRF is a nationwide 
nonprofit organization that protects the constitutional separation between state and church. 
FFRF represents 20,000 members across the country and has a state chapter, the Alabama 
Freethought Society. 

We understand that you are “a licensed and ordained minister serving at Faith Chapel 
Christian Center in Birmingham,” and that you are violating the Constitution by mixing your 
official government duties with your religious zeal.1
 Prayer Force United, a religious 
program you’ve used your power and office as police chief to implement, lists four goals — 
all of them religious. The goals are to (1) pray (2) help pastors wield their “spiritual 
authority” (3) “unite pastors” with the government, in violation of the Constitution, and (4) 
“to give God the glory He deserves in Birmingham.”2
 You have even said to a group of 
sheriffs, judges, and state representatives that the purpose is to get people “together on 
Saturday morning for the express purpose of praying.”3

In a video for Prayer Force, you explain what it is: “it’s a prayer ministry, it’s an intercessory 
ministry, that, in addition to our officers working every day to make the streets of Birmingham 
safe, we have a prayer force that’s interceding…”4
 Clearly you view this as part of the BPD. 

We understand that a police cruiser leads these prayer walks with lights flashing, followed by 
a truck with a sound system that “cranks up some gospel music.”5
 At the end, a “worship 
team [is] going full bore, just praising Jesus.”6
 Then the “local pastor introduces the police 
chief,” and you then give a sermon invoking Jesus several times.7

In the Prayer Force promotional video, where you appear in your official capacity (using your 
government title and powers of your government office), you state that you “are claiming the 
city of Birmingham for the Kingdom of God.”8
 Statements like this, made as police chief, are 
grossly inappropriate and using your public office to implement these goals is illegal. 

We further understand that you use your official email to encourage city employees to 
participate in Prayer Force’s religious events. We also understand that you inflict prayers “in 2
the name of Jesus” on officers at police functions — which forces those uncomfortable with 
your particular religion to leave the room. 

You have violated your oath to uphold the Constitution in several ways. First, you cannot use 
your government office to promote your religion or Prayer Force. This includes using your 
official email. If you wish to participate in religious events, you must do so as a private 
citizen, without using your office, title, and badge. Prayer Force United’s explicitly stated 
goals are all religious – your official participation is therefore unconstitutional. Second, the 
assumption that religion lowers crime is mistaken. Science contradicts this notion, as do 
crime statistics in your very own city. Third, it is unconstitutional to impose Christian 
prayers on BPD employees. 

1. You are misusing your government power 
It is a fundamental principle of Establishment Clause jurisprudence that the government 
cannot in any way promote, advance, or otherwise endorse religion. The Supreme Court has 
said, “The touchstone for our analysis is the principle that the ‘First Amendment mandates 
governmental neutrality between religion and religion, and between religion and 
nonreligion.’” McCreary County v. ACLU, 545 U.S. 844, 860 (2005), (quoting Epperson v. 
Arkansas, 393 U.S. 97, 104 (1968); Everson v. Board of Ed. of Ewing, 330 U.S. 1, 15-16 
(1947); Wallace v. Jaffree, 472 U.S. 38, 53 (1985)). Your affiliation with Prayer Force runs 
afoul of this stricture.

As noted above, Prayer Force’s stated purposes are all religious. The promotional video 
makes this clear. Prayer Force is advertised to Christians as “our chance to come and show 
that Jesus Christ is the answer.”9
 One of the alleged benefits is that “we immediately saw 
people saved,” i.e., converted to a particular brand of Christianity.10 

Under Establishment Clause jurisprudence, the Lemon test controls the constitutionality of 
any challenged government action. The test requires that any government action “must have 
a secular legislative purpose.” Lemon v. Kurtzman, 403 U.S. 602, 612-613 (1971). The 
government cannot organize, participate, or otherwise aid a religious ministry. The 
government cannot seek to convert citizens to one religion or another. Nor can government 
officials use their offices and titles to promote a religious message. Your overt promotion of 
religion violates Lemon and sends the message “to nonadherents that they are outsiders, not 
full members of the political community, and an accompanying message to adherents that 
they are insiders, favored members…” Id. (citations omitted).

It is unconstitutional for government officials to use their government office and email to 
advance, promote or endorse one religion over another, or religion over nonreligion. You 
must keep your religion to yourself when acting in your official capacity as police chief. 

“[T]he Supreme Court has repeatedly stated that the [Constitution is violated] if official 
action, regardless of its purpose, ‘conveys a message of endorsement or disapproval’ of 
religion.” Roberts v. Madigan, 921 F.2d 1047, 1054-55 (10th Cir. 1990) citing Wallace v. 
Jaffree, 472 U.S. 38, 56 n. 42 (1985); School District of Grand Rapids v. Ball, 473 U.S. 373, 
389 (1985); Lynch v. Donnelly, 465 U.S. 668, 690 (1984); and Lemon 430 U.S. at 619. Put 
simply, government power cannot be “exploited to proselytize or advance any one, or to 
disparage any other, faith or belief.” Marsh v. Chambers, 463 U.S. 783 (1983). 3
In 1993, FFRF also won an injunction against the mayor of Denver, Colorado, over his 
promotion, endorsement, and sponsorship of a “Day of Prayer.” See FFRF, v. Denver, No. 
93 CV 6056 (District Court, City and County of Denver, Colorado 1993). In that case, 
Mayor Webb designated a “city wide day of prayer.” The court enjoined Mayor Webb and 
other City officials “acting in an official capacity, from promoting, endorsing, or supporting 
the Day of Prayer…” Id. at 5. It reasoned: 

“[the event] would logically be interpreted by a reasonable person as an endorsement 
of religion. Because from all appearances Mayor Webb was acting in his official 
capacity in issuing the press release and conducting the press conference endorsing 
the Day of Prayer, the Court concludes that a reasonable person would interpret his 
conduct as governmental endorsement of religion. As such, it violates the 
Establishment Clause.” Id. 

Government officials can worship, pray, and participate in religious events in their personal 
capacities. But they are not permitted to provide credibility or prestige to their religion by 
lending a government office and government title to religious events. Their office and title 
belong to “We the people,” not the office’s temporary occupant. 

Even if you are maintaining appropriate constitutional boundaries with the financial aspects 
of Prayer Force United, something our records request will illuminate, the appearance of 
official government endorsement at these events is a violation. There is an official police 
cruiser escort, lights flashing; officers lining the route; you wear a BPD shirt featuring the 
BPD badge; you often wear your BPD badge on your belt; and in every news story, press 
release, publicity notice, and before every sermon you give, you are always introduced in 
your official capacity as Police Chief: 

• “Prayer Force United is led by Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper and Prayer Force 
United Leader Mark Hand. … Our police chief has asked churches all across our city 
to pray for the City of Birmingham.”11 
• “I recognize as the Chief of Police that we can’t do this alone, it takes a spiritual 
covering because we’re in spiritual warfare. The vision for us, and we believe its 
God-inspired, is for us to unite… the people of God, the body of Christ coming 
together.”12 
• “First, I want to introduce our great Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper”13 
• The walks are organized by the “civil authority.”14 

Your prayer force partner, Mark Hand, constantly uses your official title, for example “Police 
Chief Roper is a fantastic police Chief and we want to give him all the credit.”15 Thus, even 
if the BPD does not endorse the events, the appearance of governmental endorsement is 
unavoidable and renders your official participation unconstitutional. 

These prayer events are invariably Christian: it “is our chance to come and show that Jesus 
Christ is the answer.”16 Your prayers are unabashedly exclusionary. In a single 63-second 
prayer during a walk in Norwood you addressed “Jesus” six times and “Lord” God six 
times.17 The sole attempt at inclusion limits the events to Christians of various 
denominations: “Who cares if you’re Methodist, or you’re Baptist or you’re Presbyterian, … 
I’m a Christian! I mean that’s the bottom line. I am saved. I am going to Heaven…”18 Not 4
only do you tell people to pray, you tell them how to pray and to whom they ought to pray 
(Jesus): 

“As the Chief, I consider myself the chief servant, that’s all just the servant — the 
servant of Almighty God, the servant of my king, King Jesus. A name that’s higher 
than every other name and at his name every knee will bow. At that name crime will 
bow. Yes it will, yes it will. At that name, homicides are bowing. At the name 
robbery and thefts and burglary are bowing because that name has all power. So 
we’re here to pray today. . . . The Bible says that the effectual, fervent prayers of the 
righteous . . . Pray with fervency today, pray with a hunger, pray with a strong desire 
and commitment to see this entire city change.”19 

The exclusively Christian nature of these events alienates all non-Christians – 27% of the U.S. 
population.
20 BPD excludes 1.3 million Alabamans by officially aligning itself with 
Christianity. These events do not unite your city, they privilege insiders, Christians, and 
exclude non-Christians in their own city. 

2. Prayers and converting people to Christianity will not lower crime
Apparently, you believe that prayer will lower crime. You’ve said, while in your uniform, 
that “the police are not the answer, never have been, never will be. Jesus said that he’s the 
answer.”21 You’ve claimed that “one of the biggest problems [Birmingham is] facing is a lack 
of godliness.” Then, quoting that the bible, Joshua 1:3, you tell Christians that “everywhere 
your feet tread, I have given to you” as though Christians are to take over the city. This is 
particularly disturbing given the Book of Joshua tells the story of God’s Chosen People 
committing genocide after genocide in a divinely sanctioned land grab. Chapters 6 through 12 
detail at least 50 genocides committed by Joshua and commanded by his god.

The walks themselves may lower crime simply by having crowds on the streets escorted by 
police cars with flashing lights, but that is not because of the power of prayer — it is the 
power of people. Prayer cannot stop violence. Scientific studies
23 show that societies with 
less prayer have less violence: 

“Murder rates are actually lower in more secular nations and higher in more religious 
nations where belief in God is deep and widespread. And within America, the states 
with the highest murder rates tend to be highly religious, such as Louisiana and 
Alabama, but the states with the lowest murder rates tend to be among the least 
religious in the country, such as Vermont and Oregon. Furthermore, although there 
are some notable exceptions, rates of most violent crimes tend to be lower in the less 
religious states and higher in the most religious states. Finally, of the top 50 safest 
cities in the world, nearly all are in relatively non-religious countries, and of the eight 
cities within the United States that make the safest-city list, nearly all are located in 
the least religious regions of the country.” 24 

Furthermore, “studies of heroic altruism during the Holocaust, found that the more secular 
people were, the more likely they were to rescue and help persecuted Jews.”25 In fact, when 
any given factor of societal health or well being is measured, invariably the less religious 
countries score better. The least religious countries of this world:

• Have the lowest rates of violent crime and homicide
• Are the best place to raise children and be a mother 
• Have the lowest rates of corruption 
• Have the lowest levels of intolerance against racial and ethnic minorities 
• Score highest when it comes to women’s rights and gender equality 
• Have the greatest protection and enjoyment of political and civil liberties 
• Are better at educating their youth in reading, math, and science 
• Are the most peaceful and the most prosperous 
• Have the highest quality of life. 26 
The pattern of lower religiosity to higher societal well being also exists within United States. 
Those states that are the most religious also have a high occurrence of societal ills. States 
that tend to be among the most religious in the nation: 

• Have the highest rates of poverty 
• Have the highest rates of obesity 
• Have the highest rates of infant mortality 
• Have the highest rates of STDs 
• Have the highest rates of teen pregnancy 
• Have the lowest percentage of college-educated adults 
• Have the highest rates of violent crime and murder.

These studies do not prove that religion causes all of society’s ills, but it seems that Prayer 
Force United’s goals may be counterproductive. According to City-Data.com, some crime 
has actually increased during Prayer Force United’s tenure. For instance, in 2011 there were 
54 murders, but that number jumped to 67 in 2012. Assaults have also jumped from 1,399 in 
2009 to 1,916 in 2011 to 2,035 in 2012. That’s a nearly 50% increase in assaults.

3. The BPD should not be imposing prayers on your employees 
We understand that you impose Christian prayers prior to any police department gathering. 
Non-Christian officers are either forced to “out” themselves by leaving the room or to suffer 
through the sacred rites of a religion not their own. Not only does this create serious division 
within your department, it is also illegal. 

The United States “Constitution guarantees that government may not coerce anyone to 
support or participate in religion or its exercise, or otherwise act in a way in which 
‘establishes a [state] religion or religious faith, or tends to do so.’” Lee, 505 at 578. This 
principle is at odds with your stated beliefs that your police department is “ordained” by God, 
citing Romans 13 “the powers that be are ordained by God.”29 

Federal courts have found that prayers at government employee meetings constitute illegal 
government endorsement of religion. Warnock v. Archer, 380 F.3d 1076, 1080 (8th Cir. 
2004) (“The Constitution, however, forbids [the government] from conveying the message 
that it decisively endorses a particular religious position.”). See also Milwaukee Deputy 
Sheriff’s Ass’n v. Clarke, 588 F.3d 523, 525-26 (7th Cir. 2009) (holding sheriff’s religious 
speech, bible readings, and Christian literature distributions during mandatory employee 
meetings unconstitutional).

The latter case, Milwaukee Sheriff, is particularly interesting as the Sheriff was committing 
some of the same violations as yourself. “This presents a problem for the Sheriff because the 
Establishment Clause prohibits the government from ‘promot[ing] or affiliat[ing] itself with 
any religious doctrine or organization.’” Milwaukee Deputy Sheriffs’ Ass’n v. Clarke, 588 F.3d 
523, 528 (7th Cir. 2009). 

To avoid the constitutional concerns and the divisiveness this program will cause within the 
community the solution is simple: discontinue using your official office to promote 
religion, cease your official relationship Prayer Force, and stop imposing your religion on 
your employees via prayer. Do something practical to prevent crime. Please inform us in 
writing that you have decided to uphold your oath to protect the Constitution, not trample it 
underfoot. May we hear from you at your earliest convenience?
