In light of the recent Catholic-Buddhist Fourth Colloquium, and other joint events, http://www.indcatholicnews.com/news.php?viewStory=22584, it is not surprising that this ecumenical apostate symbiosis would confer a Catholic Imprimatur/Nihil Obstat on persons and organizations willing to adapt the paganism of Buddhism with pseudo-Christianity such as that found in the Roman Catholic Church, under the guise of some alleged common ground of mysticism and social programs.
“Catholic” Congressman Tim Ryan of Ohio describes how he was influenced by Catholic contemplative practices such as “breath prayer” and developed a “side life” of Buddhist mindfulness practices after going to a retreat given by Jon Kabat-Zinn, and before he “came out”.
Now, he unashamedly spends his energies and taxpayer monies on going to other states and conferences spreading this pagan philosophy and mystical practice as a type of apologist/missionary. He says near the end that “if it hurts (him) politically, (you’ll) always have the salvation of being yourself“. As a Catholic, he probably knows little to nothing of salvation in Christ alone, since his church repudiated and condemned the true gospel and the five solas of the Protestant Reformation.
Romans 1:16-“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
Acts 4:12-“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

On February 18 and 22, 2013, we posted three reports about Tim Ryan’s interest in seeing “mindfulness”, a Buddhist rooted mystical practice, in schools, the military, hospitals, among veterans, and just about anywhere. Yes, he’s still at it in full force, as these videos show:

EAGLE SCOUT & UNITED AIRLINES PILOT SUBMITS LETTER OF RESIGNATION TO BOY SCOUTS

Reported by Renew America http://www.renewamerica.com/article/130530,
Airline pilot shares letter of resignation he sent to BSA
May 30, 2013
Richard D. Morales

Wayne Brock
Chief Scout Executive

Dear Mr. Brock,

It is with great sadness and disappointment I hereby tender my resignation from Troop 501 and the Boy Scout organization. The vote to allow open and avowed homosexuality into Scouting will transform it into an unprincipled and risky proposition for parents – a social experiment, I may add. Sadly, the Boy Scouts’ legacy of producing great leaders has become yet another casualty of moral and corporate-driven leaders. May 23, 2013, was a sad day for the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and another tragic day for an America in decline.

I have been a Scout and Scout leader for 49 years. I started as a Cub Scout and worked all the way up to earning the coveted Eagle Scout award. During that journey, I attended the National Jamborees, Philmont High Adventure Scout Reservation, Northern Tier Canoe Base, and the Florida Sea Base. I am a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, and a Wood Badge Instructor. For me, it was the greatest positive impact that a youth could have [along with] a solid family and a strong church.

I saw the value in Scouting so much that I encouraged my son to become a Scout and he has progressed much like his father. He is also an Eagle Scout and is currently serving our country in the U.S. Marine Corps.

I make this decision with a clear conscience knowing that it is the BSA that has become subverted, not me. I am upholding my personal integrity as the only way that I, as an individual, can take the lead by “voting with my feet” against a policy that I vehemently oppose.

I have many cherished memories of my years in Scouting, but today I feel as if an old friend has died. So long Scouting…It has been a great ride.

Good luck. Yours truly,

Richard D. Morales

BUDDHIST MINDFULNESS IN SCHOOLS: “STOP, BREATHE, AND BE” (.b)

New post on UCSD Center for Mindfulness

What Does It Mean To .b?

by katieferrell82

logo_dotB.b pronounced (dot-be), stands for “Stop, Breathe and Be!” This simple act of mindfulness provides the kernel of a nine-lesson course for schools. Written by experienced classroom teachers and mindfulness practitioners, and evaluated positively by the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford Brookes, .b can be used in a wide range of context and age ranges, including adults.
dotb-sdcfm
Richard Burnett and Chris Cullen, co-Founders of the Mindfulness in Schools Project, http://mindfulnessinschools.org/, met in 2007. Along with Chris O’Neil, these schoolteachers had experienced the benefits of mindfulness themselves and wanted to bring it to life in the classroom. In approaching the development of a formal course, they tried to answer the following question:
Question:  When 25 teenagers tumble into your classroom at 11:45 on a wet Tuesday morning, how are you going to interest them in mindfulness? They are tired. They are hungry. They are playing with their phones, and they’d rather be somewhere else. They’ve never heard of mindfulness, it doesn’t sound very exciting, and if you were to tell them that it involved periods of stillness and silence, you’d lose them before you begun. How are you going to convince them that mindfulness is a skill which could make a real difference to their lives?
Answer: .b (Stop, Breathe and Be)
The .b curriculum is a powerful and proven model for teaching mindfulness to teens. It is now offered in 7 countries and has been integrated into school programs throughout the U.K. This curriculum is considered a valuable resource for professionals in multiple disciplines who work with youth and who are interested in integrating mindfulness into their teaching.
.b and The Mindfulness in Schools Project have been featured in numerous articles and interviews highlighting the benefits of mindfulness training with teens, including a recent TED talk by Richard Burnett, .b co-founder.
Please join us for this event in July 2013 and become part of the .b teaching team here in the U.S. Information and registration can be found on the Professional Training Institute Website.
LorraineHobbsWe invite you to join Lorraine M. Hobbs, MA, CHom UCSD Center for Mindfulness Director, Youth and Family Programs and her distinguished co-teachers for the first .b teacher certification program offered on the West Coast, July 18-21, 2013, Francis Parker High School, San Diego, CA

ANDY STANLEY DENIES INERRANCY & INFALLIBILITY OF THE BIBLE, EXCEPT WHERE JESUS PERSONALLY VERIFIES HISTORICAL FACTS

Andy Stanley ignores the following Scripture verses which support the God-inspired nature of all of the Bible, and would rather claim a relativistic view, picking and choosing what suits him:

Romans 10:17-“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
1 Peter 1:23-25-“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away. But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”
2 Timothy 3:14-17-“But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
2 Timothy 2:15-“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Ephesians 6:17-“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
Philippians 2:16-“Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.”
Colossians 3:16-“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
1 Thessalonians 2:13-“For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.”

Stanley says in this video:

The foundation of our faith is not the infallibility of the Bible. The foundation of our faith is something that happened in history and the issue is always ‘who is Jesus?’ That’s always the issue. The Scripture is simply a collection of ancient documents that tells us that story.

So when we talk about the Scriptures, and especially the reliability of the Scriptures, I think anytime that we can tie the Old Testament especially back to Jesus, we have done everybody, Christians and non-Christians alike, an incredible service by letting them know. . .You can believe the Adam and Eve story is a creation myth—so what?—who is Jesus?. . .

Here’s why I believe this [Adam and Eve] actually happened. Not because the Bible says so, but because in the gospels, Jesus talks about Adam and Eve. It appears to me that He believed that they were actually historical figures and if He believed they were historical, I believe they were historical because anybody who can predict their own death and resurrection and pull it off, I just believe anything they say. . . .

The foundation of my faith is not an infallible Bible, it’s something that happened in history. Jesus came into the world, walked on the earth, represented God, was God, and then rose from the dead. And that’s a very, very important part of our approach to the Scripture every single week.

Here’s why I believe this [Adam and Eve] actually happened. Not because the Bible says so, but because in the gospels, Jesus talks about Adam and Eve. It appears to me that He believed that they were actually historical figures and if He believed they were historical, I believe they were historical. . .

BRIAN MCLAREN’S “BIG IDEA”, “INVOLVES NO CONTROL”- WANTS TO FORM GLOBAL UMBRELLA ECUMENICAL CHURCH HUB ORGANIZATION WITH YOUR MONEY

COULD MCLAREN BE INTERESTED IN RECREATING A MODERN “BABYLONIAN MYSTERY RELIGION”?
As announced by Brian McLaren on his website http://brianmclaren.net/archives/blog/a-request-for-help.html, and subsequently reported by other blogs such as
Stand Up For The Truth http://standupforthetruth.com/2013/05/brian-mclaren-asks-for-significant-cash-for-mystery-project/, and
Lighthouse Trails Research http://www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com/newsletters/2013/newsletters20130528.htm#21,
McLaren is asking for sizable monetary contributions for a “mystery project”, which is no great mystery at all to Bible knowledgable Christians, and with the hint that we should just trust him with the money? Just send him an e-mail to happytohelp@brianmclaren.net, and he’ll keep you up to date on his plans for using your money. Why should any traditional, Bible-believing Christian trust him to do the right thing when he, as
Ken Silva of Apprising laid out, denies the substitutionary atonement of the cross: http://apprising.org/2008/10/26/brian-mclaren-attacks-the-substitutionary-atonement/, among a whole host of other heresies, false teachings, twisting of Scripture, and contemplative associations within Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Muslims.

McLaren is sending the following teaser as his preliminary response to e-mails: (Quoted in full, bold type is ours for emphasis):

Dear friends …
Thanks so much for responding to my recent request for help. What follows is general information and requires no action now. I’ll be back in touch in a week or so with a more personal note and information about next steps.
Here’s the big idea.
For some time I (along with many others) have been seeing the need for some kind of small, non-competitive hub to serve – not control – the many networks that are spontaneously forming and developing in this general space we’ve all been opening but haven’t figured out how to name yet … Emergence Christianity, Convergence Christianity, a new kind of Christianity, Christianity for the rest of us, missional Christianity, progressive Christianity, generous orthodoxy, Red-Letter Christianity, Just Faith, etc.
I believe that for this conversation to develop and mature towards being a lasting and effective movement leading to concrete action for the common good, we now need some coordination, facilitation, and behind-the-scenes encouragement and support. I want to continue doing what I’m doing – writing and speaking and networking, and I don’t want to run anything. But I want to find some ways to help others use their gifts to help all of us move forward with more intentional synergy, shared positive identity, and joyful collaboration.
I’m envisioning two or three people working full time, along with a number of stipended part-time people spread around the country. Grace and I are making a large personal financial commitment to this project (basically, it will be our tithe of gross income for the next three years), and I’m hoping you will join in doing what you can too.
I don’t think we need one organization trying to bring everybody under their umbrella. I do think we need some people who aren’t trying to build anything on their own, but rather build alignment and synergy among the many good groups who are exploring the leading edges of what is emerging in and among us.
Here’s what I’m hoping we could make happen initially: a website, a preliminary face-to-face gathering, a “press office” (to provide media-trained spokespeople to represent the movement as it continues to grow), perhaps a speakers bureau (or network of speakers bureaus), and positive participation in a global network that is forming as well.
I’d also like to see us scout out a cadre of diverse younger leaders who would be the face of this movement. Established/older leaders (like me) would do all we could to support, mentor, encourage, and promote a new generation of emerging leaders – young women and men who demonstrate the racial and denominational diversity that we need to move forward.
Many of us have been talking about this for quite a while now, but I wanted to let you know that I’m ready to do what I can to help next steps to happen, and of course I hope you’ll be a central part of this.
One reason I believe we need to move ahead now is what’s happening in terms of a global movement.  A number of grass-roots “emergence/convergence” movements in Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Europe have found one another and come together under the name Mesa. They’ve announced a preliminary gathering in Bangkok, Thailand, October 24-30. I’m planning to go. (There’s more info on Mesa here:www.mesa-friends.org.)
I like Mesa’s emphasis on ethos, since we know we’re very diverse and flexible in terms of culture, theological frameworks, church forms and structures, etc. Mesa has no money, but it is rich in relationships with grass-roots networks that are part of this “emergence” around the world. I’m very impressed with the group, and grateful they’re moving forward in this way.
Mesa’s development globally has meant that we need to take some new steps here in the US. As you can imagine, it’s important for us not to dominate this global group, but to model humility and service and collaboration.
Nothing is set in stone, but I’ve been working with some others on a first draft of a document that describes a network hub for the US. (The document is included below.) Our placeholder name is “NewNet.” We’re considering the name CANA (something I’d love your feedback on – more information is in the document).
That’s what I’m working on, and what I’m asking you to help me get started.
Dr. Philip Clayton (http://www.claremontlincoln.org/academics/faculty/profile/philip-clayton/) of Claremont Lincoln University (http://www.claremontlincoln.org) has graciously agreed to help us get started by receiving tax-deductible donations. We’re getting the logistics worked out and will be able to receive your donation soon. When NewNet (or CANA initiative or ???) is up and running as a 501(c)3 entity, funds will be transferred there. Obviously, we’ll be sure that all funds are handled ethically. And just to reiterate – I’m giving funds to this cause, not receiving funds from it.
If you have additional questions or suggestions, please let me know at this email address.
Grateful for your partnership –
Brian
PS: Here’s the draft document. Feel free to share it with interested individuals who may want to help, but I ask that it not be posted anywhere publicly, since this is really just a starting point.
FIRST DRAFT (not for public distribution)
“NewNet”
(Potential Name: CANA Initiative)
NewNet is a collective of faith-engaged organizations, individuals, institutions and networks rooted in a generous Christian tradition, who seek to embody a new Christian ethos leading to constructive collective action in the United States.
NewNet seeks to create a healthy ecosystem for connection among existing and emerging individuals, organizations, and networks and will serve as an influential “network of networks”.
NewNet is comprised of Roman Catholic, Evangelical, Mainline Protestant, Orthodox, and other Christians who believe the future for Christian life and mission will be different in many ways from the past and present.
NewNet brings together innovative leaders from all streams of the faith to collaborate in the development of new ways of being Christian…new ways of doing theology and living biblically, new understandings and practices of mission, new kinds of faith communities, new approaches to worship and spiritual formation, new integrations and conversations and convergences and dreams.
NewNet participants share a sense of exploration, creativity, challenge and opportunity in this pivotal and dynamic moment.
Because we are rooted in a generous Christian heritage, we are eager to collaborate with people of other faiths, and those seeking the common good. Our networks of dialogue and action thus extend beyond Christian communities to persons of all faiths, as well as to communities that are not themselves faith-based. We welcome allies and allegiances wherever we find common cause.
NewNet seeks to translate critical thinking about the past and present into creative collective action for the future, and to do so in a spirit that is positive, irenic, sympathetic, and generous.
In this way, NewNet seeks to support and encourage what is often called Emergence Christianity. The word emergence means coming into view, arising from, occurring unexpectedly, requiring immediate action (hence its relation to emergency). It often involves crossing boundaries (as between water and air) and evolutionary processes. All these meanings resonate with the spirit and vision of NewNet.
We welcome people from a wide spectrum of theological, political, and ethnic traditions. We encourage a wide range of ecclesial structures. NewNet sees this diversity as a sign of health and vitality.
NewNet Convenes, Advocates, Networks and Acts (CANA)
Convene – Provide the context for people and organizations to more publicly identify with the movement and collaborate within the United States.
We aggregate and promote events and conversations for the the generation of friendship, shared thought, and collective action among organizations and leaders around the country.
We provide online resources – to connect related organizations, affiliates, allies, resources
We build and strengthen alliances between leaders, organizations, and networks who together build the movement
We provide a means by which “NewNet” can relate to parallel regional networks around the world.
Advocate  – Speak on behalf of the movement to potential participants, the press, critics, and opponents.
We produce key documents – to identify values, ethical standards, questions for conversation, and proposals for action.
We develop a press office – to provide secular and religious media with trained, responsible spokespeople for this emerging Christian ethos.
We disseminate movement news and provide an edited news/commentary aggregator
We select and support a group of gifted, trained, committed, and diverse leaders to represent and advance the movement.
Speakers’ Bureau – to provide growing numbers of spokespeople for Emergence Christianity.
Network – Champion Ideas and help insure voices have what is needed to articulate bold and meaningful proposals for collective action
Create transparent communication and decision-making structures
Welcome and include new participants into the network
Assist fundraising for participants by telling the larger story and inviting financial participation
Help people find churches, organizations cohorts, staff, jobs, etc., to promote the larger goals of the movement.
Identify issues and opportunities of participation among NewNet participants
Act –  Collectively collaborate more consciously and effectively in six areas that are essential to vital movements
Understand opportunities and challenges
Articulate our message
Engage in strategic collective action
Mobilize people and resources
Build movement culture
Enrich participant lives
Outcomes:
Encourage new, expanding, generative and meaningful expressions of Christian faith in North America
Create exposure for media and other practitioners to learn about and access the movement
Highlight more attractive public opinion of Christian faith, spirituality, and mission
Connect with and inspire new generation of leaders
Generate a collaborative environment for shared participation among leaders
Network with parallel networks globally
Create pathways for a new kind of interaction between faith traditions
Generate pathways for faith-based organizations to collaborate with non-faith focused endeavors
Support systems that generate new innovative initiatives – communities, churches, learning centers, media organizations, causes, etc
Assumptions:
We are moving from largely independent innovative entities to a more collaborative eco-system
We are not asking existing efforts to be part of our whole, but asking existing efforts to see what they  are doing as contributing to a larger whole
We are in transition from a generative conversation to an ecumenical spiritual movement
We need a hub that is not seeking to compete or control, but coordinate and serve
If we maximize the larger system, we will maximize the sub-systems
More and more of us are ready for a collaborative rather than competitive philosophy of ministry
This is not about a polarized “right or left”, but about a polarized past, a convergent now, and a future full of collaborative possibilities.
Limits:
NewNet will not:
Provide funds, but will seek to link to others who do
Advocate particular expressions of faith, but will support a wide variety of expressions
Start new churches, but will encourage their development
We need a variety of people to bring NewNet into being:
Spokespersons – Shared Participation:
Give voice of NewNet within their networks
Give voice of their network within NewNet
Identify with NewNet in bio and social networks
Participate in National Gathering of NewNet
Movement Representatives – Additional Participation:
Participate in a strategic twice-a-month call/video chat
Meet in twice-a-year in face to face national working group meeting
Contribute to setting the direction and strategy of NewNet
Host “invitation/recruitment” meetings among their network
Funders:
NewNet will operate a lean and effective budget. We will support a small staff, provide stipends for Movement Representatives, underwrite meeting and travel costs, and develop and curate an interactive website. Toward that end, NewNet is based on a $200,000 a year budget.  Funders can help us by making one-time initial contributions, providing monthly support, and introducing us to potential funders.
Proposals: (From the Mesa Friends Working Document: “Mesa Friends“ is a global conversation among emerging Christian Leaders in which NewNet will be a partner)
We seek to new engagement in the following areas, making demands upon ourselves and others:
1. The Bible: In light of how the Bible has been abused in the past and present, we know that we need a new way of describing what the Bible is, how it reached its current form, how we should interpret and teach it (especially to children and youth), etc.
2. The Church: A vision of integral mission and missional church prompts us to challenge the church to move beyond institutional maintenance towards forming Christ-like people who become a blessing to the larger community, and thus embody the message we proclaim.
3. The Poor: The growing gap between rich and poor calls for a multi-faceted partnerships that expresses compassion, seek justice, confront exploitation and marginalization, and create opportunity, especially in a global economy.
4. The Planet: The environmental crisis must evoke from us proposals that will benefit the birds of the air, the flowers of the field, and the ecosystems that maintain them, so that followers of Christ will pioneer a new lifestyle and help create the regenerative economy the planet needs.
5. Pluralism: To love our neighbors in today’s world means to learn to appreciate our neighbors’ diverse religions. We must propose new ways of encountering the other the provide alternatives to both combative fundamentalism on the one hand and loss of Christian identity on the other.
6. Peace: After two thousand years, it is time for the Christian faith to distinguish itself not just by advocating for war with less injustice, but by proclaiming an attainable ideal of peace, along with equipping Christians as practical peacemakers.
7. Equality: Women and men, minority and majority, alien and native-born, unbeliever and believer, gay and straight, occupied and occupier, one percent and ninety-nine percent  – our world is torn by divisions that put some in a position of of privilege and power, and others in a position of disadvantage and danger. Sadly, our churches are often laggards, not leaders, in confronting prejudice and standing for the dignity and equality of all people.
8. Families, Women, and Children: Families face multiple challenges today, including greed-based economies that corrode humane values, exploitive entertainment industries that undermine human dignity, and patriarchal religious systems that reward a crude form of masculinity. We must challenge churches to propose and embody family life that can overcome these challenges.
9. Business/Economics: We must challenge business and economic leaders to create new forms of business that seek a triple bottom line – lasting social, environmental, and economic benefit, not just maximized short-term profit. In a world of rising population and increasing mechanization, we must also challenge business leaders to seek to maximize employment along with profit, and to discover new ways to reduce economic inequality by expanding opportunity.
10. Personal Dimensions: In what way must those who articulate demands like these make demands on themselves? How can those demands be sustainable and life-giving rather than burdensome and restrictive? And how can we model gracious collaboration in some areas when we maintain honest disagreement in other areas?

UNIVERSALIST POPE FRANCIS TWISTS MARK 9:38-40 BY CLAIMING: “THE LORD REDEEMED ALL OF US WITH HIS BLOOD”, EVEN ATHEISTS

Mark 9: 38-40: “John said to Jesus, “Teacher, we saw someone forcing demons out of a person by using the power and authority of your name. We tried to stop him because he was not one of us.” Jesus said, “Don’t stop him! No one who works a miracle in my name can turn around and speak evil of me. Whoever isn’t against us is for us.”

Pope Francis: ‘Jesus Broadens the Horizon’ to Embrace Atheists Who ‘Do Good’: See: Christian News Network article:

http://christiannews.net/2013/05/23/pope-francis-jesus-broadens-the-horizon-to-embrace-atheists-who-do-good/.

The biblical response to the Pope’s twisting of Scripture is to refute his false gospel with Scripture that applies to the Catholic “salvation by works”. Below are some pertinent biblical quotes to answer the Pope, including any and all Catholics who may be deceived by this so-called “vicar of Christ”, but who is thoroughly “anti-Christ”.
Ephesians 2:8-9-“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Ephesians 1:7-“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace”

Matthew 7:22-“Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?”
Acts 4:12-“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
Revelation 17:14-“These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.”
1 Peter 2:9-“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light”
Ephesians 1:4-“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love”
John 15:19-“If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.”
John 15:16-“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”
Galatians 3:13-“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree”
Galatians 4:5-“To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.”

Mark 2:17-“When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
Luke 24:47-“And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”
Acts 20:21-“Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.”
2 Peter 3:9-“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

Salvation is not in the Catholic Church but in and through Jesus Christ. This pope is like all the others. As a Jesuit priest, he has been well trained and practiced in the goals of the Inquisition, to reverse and eliminate all the gains of the Protestant Reformation. Protestants were once called heretics because they stood for biblical truth; now they are called “lost brethren” and are being seduced back to the Catholic church with sweet soft words of reconciliation and ecumenism. Beware!

ATHEISTS ATTACK TEXAS HOMESCHOOLERS & KEN HAM’S CREATIONISM IN YOUTUBE VIDEO & PLAN PROTEST AT TEXAS HOMESCHOOL CONVENTION

Angry Atheists Display Intolerance of Christianity

by Ken Ham, AiG–U.S.

A recent video of an atheist chat session on the internet is a must watch for all Christians! Every pastor, Christian leader, homeschooler, teenager, Christian parent, and, in fact, all Christians need to see this video chat featuring a number of very intolerant atheists (and some are hateful and angry). In fact, watch it at your Bible study, youth group meeting, home group, home, and so on—you will hear for yourself some of the best practical illustrations of many passages of Scripture come to life, including Romans 1, 2 Peter 3, and many other passages of Scripture that refer to people who oppose Christians. This can be an excellent practical Bible study for you.
The atheist video is one of the best I’ve seen to illustrate atheists exhibiting the following traits:
  • Intolerance and arrogance
  • Hatred of biblical Christians
  • Hatred of the Bible
  • Ignorance
  • Wanting to control education and capture your kids’ hearts and minds
  • Extremism
  • Fighting against freedom of religion
  • Wanting to close down or limit biblical, Christian homeschooling
  • Seeking to control what private organizations teach
  • Desiring to control what you teach at home
  • Claim Christians are scientifically ignorant but are themselves scientifically inept
  • Sanctimoniously determining morality for themselves
  • Attempting to shape the culture according to their anti-God beliefs
This video session is also an excellent illustration of a generation of people in their thirties or thereabouts who have been brought up in a culture where the following had occurred:
  • Christianity had by and large already been removed from much of the public education system
  • Abortion was legal
  • Christian influence was already waning in the culture
  • Evolution on the whole was taught as fact in the public schools
  • Many churches had compromised with evolution
  • Most churches had not taught apologetics to defend the Christian faith against secularism, evolution, millions of years, etc.
This is the generation of those people who went to church but no longer attend, which is discussed in our book Already Gone. This book documents the mass exodus of young people from the church.
As you watch, you will notice that these atheists are very self-centered, arrogant, and self-righteous. In essence, they are acting as little gods (just as was recorded with the temptation in Genesis 3). They are so focused on themselves—and that what they believe is above question, and biblical Christians are totally wrong. Ironically they call their chat session “Home School Abuse by Creationists,” yet for all their concern about children, I understand they condone the killing of children by abortion.
In case you can’t set aside the two hours to watch this video (although we urge you to do so), we will include video excerpts in this article and also direct you to a 25-minute section of the video we suggest you should watch at the very least.
These atheists have discovered (the information can be found on the internet, just as with all our speaking engagements) that I will be speaking at a homeschool convention in Texas—the Texas Homeschool Coalition Convention, August 1–3.

Increasing Intolerance of Christianity

So these atheists have discovered that Ken Ham is speaking at a distinctively Christian homeschool convention, but they can’t allow that! These atheists found my upcoming appearance so shocking that they are now having meetings to decide what to do about it. It seems they are surprised to learn I of all people am speaking to parents and kids—and teaching the Bible and science—at a distinctivelyChristian conference. They act as if this is such an unbelievable situation. They appear to be saying, “How could this happen?” Of course, I’ve been a keynote speaker at dozens of homeschool conventions over the years, and apparently some atheists are just finding this out!
Actually, I believe this backlash is occurring during a time in American history that features a political climate that fosters increasing attacks on Christianity. Atheists have become much more aggressive against Christians, particularly this year. Consider controversies surrounding the IRS debacle in regard to some groups that are theologically conservative, the pushing of the homosexual agenda, etc. Anything that smacks of biblical morality or the Christian worldview is being aggressively attacked, even in the private arena (e.g., a small Christian school under assault in South Carolina).
Recently, an atheist helped to arrange it so that two atheist women would attend AiG’s Answers for Women conference undercover—and then write a scathing attack on AiG and the Creation Museum (not so surprising). Atheist blogs and YouTube videos are increasing in their attacks on AiG, on me personally, and on Christians in general.
Many atheists are so upset by the fact that I am speaking at this homeschool conference that they decided to hold a two-hour internet chat (that is now on YouTube). Apparently more meetings are being organized to deal with this “terrible problem” of Ken Ham speaking to parents and kids at a privately run homeschool conference in Texas.

Why Are These Atheists So Angry?

I have watched these two hours of intolerance, ignorance, sanctimony, and abuse by atheists, all in response to the fact they discovered I will be a keynote speaker at this homeschool convention. Here is my summary and paraphrase of the atheists’ arguments presented in the video:
What can we do to fight Ken Ham speaking at this homeschool convention? This shouldn’t be allowed. Ken Ham pushes biblical creation on kids and adults. We can’t have this. We need to protest. We will bus in atheists from other cities. We’ve already scouted out the best places to conduct the protest. We need to confront Ken Ham at the conference.
This situation is intolerable. How dare a Christian organization host Ken Ham? And look at this homeschool group—you can see what they are doing. Their three keynote speakers are Christians. They are obviously pushing Christianity at a homeschool convention. How dare they have Christian speakers at this convention? Who do they think they are?
Christian homeschooling parents are ignorant and illiterate. They can teach their religious junk at home, but when it comes to education, they can’t teach Ken Ham’s stuff to children—this can’t be allowed. We’ve got to stop this. We are angry—we are really angry.
To get a flavor of this two-hour video chat, I encourage you to at least watch the section from around 45 minutes to about the 1:10 mark. The utter intolerance that they display toward biblical Christians will probably shock you, but they really represent today’s increasingly secularized generation.
It’s probable that the featured atheists in this chat session are likely not using their real names. They call themselves Sister Lilandra, Sister Shayrah, Neeley Fluke, and Vic Wang. (Please see the note below to learn more about them, which will also help you understand why they are so antagonistic to biblical Christianity—and biblical creationists in particular.)

Revealing Their Ignorance and Intolerance

While these atheists call us scientifically illiterate, their ignorance of science is amazing to watch! For instance, Lilandra discusses each of the topics that I will give at the Texas conference, and in regard to my presentation on the origin of “races” and racism, she states the following:
[Ken Ham is] so averse to evolution that he thinks that there are no biological races, because any kind variation is anathema to him, because he would have to admit that species change over time. . . He says there is only one race but there’s two spiritual races.
Actually, the human genome project confirmed there is only one race. All the quotes I use in my talks to present the case that there is only one race of humans come from secular sources! This atheist woman doesn’t seem to understand that humans are classified as one species. And for the first 30 minutes of my anti-racism talk, I discuss the mechanism for speciation and the changes we see in animals in regard to genetic variability. She is frankly ignorant and confused, yet while she calls us scientifically incorrect, it’s her claims that are the scientifically illiterate ones!
I must say, the most humorous part of the video was when Lilandra made the following statement:
I grew up not knowing my own biological origins and I could have died and never known the truth about it . . . I think that’s ridiculous because you’re an ape, you’re an animal, and to deny that is ridiculous. You’re still one anyways. And this is why this angers me, because they’re raising people to beget more ignorance. Some people think that they’ll find out the truth eventually, but if that’s the case, why are there so many politicians who fight for creationism in the classroom? And why do so many Christians take their children to see Ken Ham?
Think about it! She is saying that she could have died not knowing she was an evolved animal—an ape! I find it so sad that an atheist, who believes she’ll cease to exist one day, would be depressed at the prospect of dying not knowing she was an evolved animal.
Share This Article with Homeschoolers and Christians Everywhere
I urge homeschoolers in Texas to spread this article throughout the homeschool movement in their state. In fact, I ask homeschoolers across America to distribute this article far and wide. Everyone needs to experience this video chat for themselves to get an understanding of the increasing intolerance and aggressiveness of many atheists against biblical Christianity.
We urge all Christians in Texas, not just homeschoolers, to attend this homeschool conference in the Houston area. And let’s get churches in Texas aware of this intolerance by atheists and publically get out the word, including alerting the Christian media. Pastors should speak out about the increasing intolerance of atheists to their congregations. In fact, these video excerpts should be used by pastors across this nation to warn their flocks about the growing intolerance being directed at Christians and then equip their people to stand against these secular attacks.
We have reached a point in America where a minority view like atheism is shaping how decisions are made in the culture, and America continues to move farther to the secular end of the spectrum. The minority is essentially dictating for the majority.
So, let’s use this video chat by atheists as a tool to offer some practical teaching about those people who oppose the Bible’s messages.

The Atheist Chat Participants

The Dallas, Texas, group that sponsored this video chat is called “The Nones.” They present what they state is “a secular podcast of women, by women, and for women!”
Three of the participants in this chat are in an internet talk show called the “Secular View,” which they describe as “an interweb talk show hosted by five atheist women discussing everything from sex and relationships to gaming and Doctor Who.” They also state, “The five amazing sex positive women of Secular View naturally discuss reproductive rights or keeping a separation between church and state.”

The Two Hosts

1. Sister Shayrah (i.e., Shayrah Akers) claims to have become an atheist in 2004 and was a former Christian blogger.
Her bio from a Secular Students website states, “She is also a pansexual, genderqueer LGBT and atheist activist, and the proud parent of a godless child.” She apparently lives in Dallas, Texas.
2. Sister Lilandra (also known as Lilandra Nelson) teaches primary and secondary education in Garland, Texas. The bio on her husband’s blog states, “She also contributes regularly on the topic of education to a major metropolitan southern newspaper that leans a bit to the right. This forum has allowed her to expand her sphere of influence ever so slightly into the realm of people who would not otherwise be exposed to progressive viewpoints.”
Lilandra’s husband is known on the internet as Aron Ra, a “YouTube atheist.” He has produced YouTube videos (“Foundational Falsehoods of Creationism” and “Falsifying Phylogeny”) that critique creationists. Aron Ra has been interviewed by creationists like Eric Hovind and had a radio “debate” with evangelist Ray Comfort last September.

Guests

1. Neeley Fluke (also known as Neeley Rebel Fluke and Neeley D. Whyte) is a secular homeschooling parent who lives in Los Angeles, California. She is a member of a California atheist group.
2. Vic Wang lives in the Houston, Texas area. He is a member of the Houston Super Secret Science Club, Greater Houston Skeptic Society, Humanists of Houston (vice president), Houston Atheists Association (co-organizer), and Houston Oasis (vice president). The Houston Oasis is basically a church for atheists that meets Sunday morning and was started by a pastor who declared himself an atheist in 2012.

DON CARSON, KEVIN DEYOUNG & JUSTIN TAYLOR DEFEND C.J. MAHANEY AGAINST CHARGES IN SGM SEX ABUSE SCANDAL

Posted By Kevin DeYoung On May 24, 2013 @ 7:00 am In Uncategorized | Comments Disabled
A Statement from Don Carson, Kevin DeYoung, and Justin Taylor
Over the past several months we have remained publicly silent about the civil lawsuit filed against Sovereign Grace Ministries (SGM), which alleged a conspiracy to cover up sexual abuse.
Many have asked why we have not spoken publicly. Is this a conspiracy of silence, a way to whitewash accusations against a friend? Is it a way to stand with the powerful and to make a mockery of the weak? Is it simple cowardice? Why hasn’t more been said?
What We Did Not Intend to Communicate
We recognize that to some, our not speaking up feels like a betrayal, especially to those who have personally experienced abuse. Understandably, people want to hear that Christians categorically deplore and despise sexual abuse. We recognize that on this painful subject inaction can be hurtful and perceived as uncaring.
It needs to be said in no uncertain terms that the actual acts alleged in the lawsuit are utterly evil—an offense against a holy God and an act of hatred against innocent children. They are horrifying and revolting. Apart from repentance, they are damning. There is no excuse, at any time or in any place or for any reason, for the use of children for sexual pleasure. Pastors who learn of such abuses should contact the appropriate authorities immediately, institute church discipline, and apply the whole counsel of God (including both law and gospel). Every church should have a clear child protection policy, and in every situation of abuse the victims must be assured that they are notresponsible for the crimes committed against them. Furthermore, pastors are responsible to obey all mandatory reporting laws, alerting law-enforcement officials and fully cooperating with all investigations. This is not an alternative to church discipline and gospel counsel, but a necessary and complementary role of divinely instituted civil authorities.
A Theory of Conspiracy
Over the past several months we often weighed the idea of writing a statement like this. Every time we concluded that caution was the better course. It is generally unwise to make public comments concerning a civil case that is being considered for trial or currently under deliberation. But now that most of the complaints filed in the SGM Ministries civil lawsuit have been dismissed, it seems an appropriate time to explain our silence and some of our thinking behind it.
We have not read the ruling of dismissal from the judge because, to our knowledge, it has not been made public. We do not know whether the plaintiffs’ attorney will file further charges. The legal back and forth may continue for some time. But we have read the explanation offered by the plaintiffs’ attorney regarding the statute of limitations in a civil suit:

We (the victims and the lawyers) all knew about the statute issue at the outset. But fighting for justice means doing so even against known obstacles. We had a conspiracy theory to overcome the statute but the Court rejected it. . . .

This is a revealing comment, as it indicates the legal strategy behind the civil suit. (And note that this was a civil suit, not a criminal complaint. While they certainly believe crimes were committed, this lawsuit itself was only seeking monetary damages.)
The plaintiffs’ counsel in the Sovereign Grace case knew that it could not proceed solely based on the allegations of abuse, given the statute of limitations. (Some of the alleged abuses occurred 25-30 years ago.) The statute of limitations is not a “legal technicality” but rather an important feature of our judicial system. The plaintiffs’ counsel therefore alleged a wide-ranging theory of conspiracy, hoping that this would overcome the legal requirements regarding the time between when the alleged crimes took place and the filing of the civil lawsuit. This is apparently what the judge dismissed, determining that it would not even proceed to a trial. If you listen carefully to the attorneys’ explanations of the case on radio programs and other venues, they essentially acknowledged that they had no proof of a conspiracy. As the motion to dismiss points out, although C.J. Mahaney is named as an individual defendant, “the sole allegation against him in the Complaint is that he founded Sovereign Grace Ministries (“SGM”) and is currently its President. . . . He is not specifically identified or alleged to have performed any other act or omission throughout the 143-paragraph Complaint.”
So the entire legal strategy was dependent on a theory of conspiracy that was more hearsay than anything like reasonable demonstration of culpability. As to the specific matter of C.J. participating in some massive cover-up, the legal evidence was so paltry (more like non-existent) that the judge did not think a trial was even warranted.
Would it have served anyone to take to the blogosphere to express our legal opinion about the conspiracy allegations before the case was decided, much less before it even went to trial? Would it have changed anyone’s mind? Would it have helped the case itself in any way? We deemed it wiser to let an impartial judge rule on whether the case should be considered, making a determination based on all the facts available.
Another reason we have remained silent is because we have detailed charges from one side, but essentially no defense from the other side. Scripture warns us about what often happens in such a situation: “The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him” (Prov. 18:17). Can anyone say with certainty who is innocent and who is guilty in these multiple allegations spanning several decades? This is why we have courts, and why the Bible calls us to prudence. If we must denounce and separate from everyone or every ministry facing serious allegations, any one of us could be publicly ruined in a matter of days by nothing more than accusations. High-profile Christians are sometimes targeted not because they are guilty, but because they are well known. While those who are shown to be guilty should be exposed with rigor and with tears, surely as brothers and sisters in Christ we must understand how much gain there is for those who hate the gospel when Christian leaders are unfairly attacked and diminished. We agree with the Heidelberg Catechism that obeying the ninth commandment requires more than telling the truth; it means we do not “join in condemning anyone without a hearing or without a just cause.” Instead, “I should do what I can to guard and advance my neighbor’s good name” (Q/A 112).
Please do not hear us saying that we assume all of the plaintiffs are lying. We do not assume all the defendants are innocent, or that they are all guilty. We are not privy to the sort of information necessary to make that determination. Where the allegations are accurate, we have nothing but the deepest sympathy for the victims, desiring that legal justice might prevail and that they might know the Lord’s healing and vindication. And where allegations may be false or misconstrued, we sympathize with those whose reputations have been unfairly tarnished with no public recourse. This is a tangled mess. It is enormously complicated, with multiple allegations at multiple levels over multiple years, with multiple amendments. Which is why if a case were to go to trial, it would involve hundreds of hours of evidence and deliberation by an impartial judge and jury seeking to discern the truth and to bring justice to bear. Discerning the full truth is not always a simple matter, and it does not seem to us that blog posts and tweets are the best medium to serve the cause of truth. In hindsight we still believe restraint has been the wiser path.
The Face of the Lawsuit
There are two other facts that may be germane to this discussion: (1) some have tried to make C.J. Mahaney the “face” of the SGM lawsuit, and (2) we are friends with C.J.
Reports on the lawsuit from Christianity Today and World Magazine (among others) explicitly and repeatedly drew attention to C. J., connecting the suit to recent changes within SGM. He has also been the object of libel and even a Javert-like obsession by some. One of the so-called discernment blogs—often trafficking more in speculation and gossip than edifying discernment—reprinted a comment from a woman who issued this ominous wish, “I hope [this lawsuit] ruins the entire organization [of SGM] and every single perpetrator and co-conspirator financially, mentally and physically.”
We are not ashamed to call C.J. a friend. Our relationship with C.J. is like that with any good friend—full of laughter and sober reflection, encouragement and mutual correction. He has regularly invited—even pursued—correction, and we have given him our perspective when it is warranted. While the admission of friendship may render this entire statement tainted in the eyes of some, we hope most Christians will understand that while friends should never cover for each others’ sins, neither do friends quickly accept the accusations of others when they run counter to everything they have come to see and know about their friend. We are grateful for C.J.’s friendship and his fruitful ministry of the gospel over many decades.
Conclusion
We are not in a place to adjudicate all the charges leveled against Sovereign Grace Ministries or the specific individuals named in the lawsuit. The purpose of this statement is not to render a verdict on the charges, nor in any way to trivialize the sins alleged. We realize some will construe this post as confirmation of their worst suspicions, but we trust most of our brothers and sisters will be able to consider our explanation with an open heart and a fair mind. Our silence was not decided upon lightly; neither was our decision to break this silence. Our prayer is that one day—and please, Lord, soon—all who face injustice of any kind will see the Lord bring forth his righteousness as the light, and his justice as the noonday (Ps. 37:6).

FEDERAL PROTECTIVE SERVICE OF DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY FOCUSES ON CIVIL IRS PROTESTS

Published on May 21, 2013 on YouTube:
Residents of St. Louis County met in front of the IRS offices on May 21, 2013 to protest the IRS’ practice of targeting and harassing conservatives, patriots and Tea Party supporters. There were no city or county police there, ONLY DEPT OF HOMELAND SECURITY POLICE. According to the IG report, the IRS began targeting conservative organizations, especially Tea Party groups, in Feb. 2010, (although there is much evidence that they have been targeting conservative groups and Christian groups since the 1980’s.) The IRS agents were directed to target organizations with the words “patriot” or “tea party” in the names. The power to tax is the power to destroy. This is what it is like to live in a police state tyranny. It has become evident that they are planning on using the IRS as their Gestapo.

C.J. MAHANEY, FOUNDER OF SOVEREIGN GRACE MINISTRIES SUPPORTED BY 3 CHRISTIAN LEADERS

Statement from Mark Dever, Ligon Duncan, and Albert Mohler, at:

http://t4g.org/statement/, in support of C.J. Mahaney:

May 23, 2013
We are friends who have been brought together for the gospel. Over the last several months, we have wanted to speak publicly to the issues that have related to our friend C. J. Mahaney. A Maryland judge’s recent action to dismiss a lawsuit against Sovereign Grace Ministries offers us the first opportunity, and responsibility, to speak to this issue. We could not speak to the issues involved so long as they were raised only in the context of an action in the civil courts. We have never made a public comment with regard to claims and counter-claims in a civil lawsuit, and we will not violate that principle now.
Claims presented in a civil lawsuit seeking financial compensation are beyond the ability of the public to render judgment. Often, such claims are even beyond the ability of a court to deliberate. To comment on such claims is irresponsible, since no one apart from the court and the parties directly involved has any ability to evaluate the claims presented. If the filing of civil litigation against a Christian ministry or leader is in itself reason for separation and a rush to judgment, no ministry or minister is safe from destruction at any time. Furthermore, the effort to try such a case in the court of public opinion prior to any decision rendered by an authorized court is likewise irresponsible.
We have stood beside our friend, C. J. Mahaney, and we can speak to his personal integrity. We can make no judgment as to the truthfulness of the horrifying charges of sexual abuse made against some individuals who have been connected, in some way, to Sovereign Grace Ministries and its churches. Our hearts must go out to anyone, and especially to any child, who suffers abuse at the hand of anyone. In such a case the legal authorities must use the full power of the law to investigate and to prosecute any perpetrator of such crimes. We must take any responsible action to protect the vulnerable, and we must act immediately to inform legal authorities of any charge or claim of sexual abuse, and do so without delay. Our first response must be to call the police, to act to protect the child or young person, and then to proceed to biblical church discipline when the facts demand such a response.
If a Christian leader is accused of any wrongdoing, those to whom he is accountable must investigate the charges and then deal responsibly with the evidence. If a criminal accusation is made, Christians have a fundamental duty to inform law enforcement officials. This does not, however, preclude or mitigate the church’s responsibility for biblical church discipline.
A Christian leader, charged with any credible, serious, and direct wrongdoing, would usually be well advised to step down from public ministry. No such accusation of direct wrongdoing was ever made against C. J. Mahaney. Instead, he was charged with founding a ministry and for teaching doctrines and principles that are held to be true by vast millions of American evangelicals. For this reason, we, along with many others, refused to step away from C. J. in any way. We do not regret that decision. We are profoundly thankful for C. J. as friend, and we are equally thankful for the vast influence for good he has been among so many Gospel-minded people.
Our heart goes out to anyone who has ever suffered abuse of any kind. Our emphatic encouragement would be for anyone who has ever suffered such abuse or knows of anyone made vulnerable to such abuse to contact law enforcement officials without delay. We must then allow the law enforcement agencies and the courts to do their proper work. When criminal charges are filed, the public is then presented with evidence upon which it can draw a responsible judgment. On matters of protecting the vulnerable, Christians know what judgment must be made. We side with the victims.
Our hope and prayer is that Christ’s healing and health will come to all parties involved in this matter and that justice and righteousness will prevail for all. May every true victim of any injustice be vindicated. May every doer of wrong be exposed. And may all of us speak no further than we can responsibly speak.
Those who minister in the name of the Lord Christ bear an inescapable duty to live and to minister in a way that is above reproach. Those who teach, reminds James, will face a stricter judgment. [James 3:1] May everything we do, everything we teach, and all that we are be measured against that standard.
Together for the Gospel,
Mark Dever, Ligon Duncan, Albert Mohler

The Boy Scouts of America Statement:
“For 103 years, the Boy Scouts of America has been a part of the fabric of this nation, with a focus on working together to deliver the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training.
“Based on growing input from within the Scouting family, the BSA leadership chose to conduct an additional review of the organization’s long-standing membership policy and its impact on Scouting’s mission. This review created an outpouring of feedback from the Scouting family and the American public, from both those who agree with the current policy and those who support a change.
“Today, following this review, the most comprehensive listening exercise in Scouting’s history the approximate 1,400 voting members of the Boy Scouts of America’s National Council approved a resolution to remove the restriction denying membership to youth on the basis of sexual orientation alone. The resolution also reinforces that Scouting is a youth program, and any sexual conduct, whether heterosexual or homosexual, by youth of Scouting age is contrary to the virtues of Scouting. A change to the current membership policy for adult leaders was not under consideration; thus, the policy for adults remains in place. The BSA thanks all the national voting members who participated in this process and vote.
“This policy change is effective Jan. 1, 2014, allowing the Boy Scouts of America the transition time needed to communicate and implement this policy to its approximately 116,000 Scouting units.
“The Boy Scouts of America will not sacrifice its mission, or the youth served by the movement, by allowing the organization to be consumed by a single, divisive, and unresolved societal issue. As the National Executive Committee just completed a lengthy review process, there are no plans for further review on this matter.
“While people have different opinions about this policy, we can all agree that kids are better off when they are in Scouting. Going forward, our Scouting family will continue to focus on reaching and serving youth in order to help them grow into good, strong citizens. America’s youth need Scouting, and by focusing on the goals that unite us, we can continue to accomplish incredible things for young people and the communities we serve.”

POPE FRANCIS PLANS TO VISIT THE IDOLATROUS MARY SHRINE IN SARDINIA, OUR LADY OF BONARIA

Pope Francis has announced that he plans to visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Bonaria in the Italian island of Sardinia in September (Vatican Information Service, May 15, 2013). This 14th century shrine, operated by the friars of the Order of Our Lady of Mercy, perpetuates the myth that a statue of Mary miraculously calmed a storm and saved a Spanish ship in 1370. Spanish sailors “venerated the image” and invoked its help for safe sailing.
Francis will be the fourth pope to visit the idol, following in the footsteps of Pope Paul VI (1970), John Paul II (1985), and Pope Benedict XVI (2008). Francis has been widely acclaimed by evangelicals for his simple lifestyle and social justice passion, but he is as apostate in doctrine as the previous popes.

Pope Francis announcing his visit to Sardinia (Italian with English translation and commentary):
Published on May 15, 2013 on YouTube above and below:
Pope Francis told pilgrims at the Wednesday audience that he wants to visit a shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Bonaria in Caglieri, Sardinia, probably in September. He explained that there is a strong bond of brotherhood between his native city of Buenos Aires and Cagliari, from an old story that recounts how at the moment of founding the City of Buenos Aires the founder had wanted to name it after the Holy Trinity, but the sailors, who had brought him there, were Sardinian and they wanted him call it the City of Our Lady of Buenos Aires [Fair winds].

The Mercedarian Friars have staffed this Basilica for almost 700 years. Over the Past 40 years, 3 popes have visited this shrine: Paul VI, John Paul II, and Benedict XVI. Pope Francis has a great love for the shrine since Buenos Aires, Argentina was named after it. http://orderofmercy.org/.

Here is the text of the Final Declaration made during the IV Buddhist-Christian Colloquium held at the Pontifical Urbaniana University on May 6th, under the theme “Inner Peace, Peace among Peoples”. The Holy See made the text available yesterday afternoon. See: http://www.zenit.org/en/articles/final-declaration-from-the-iv-christian-buddhist-colloquium:

1. The Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue in collaboration with the Office of Ecumenical and Interreligious Dialogue of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Italy held the fourth Buddhist-Christian Colloquium at the Pontifical Urbaniana University http://www.urbaniana.edu/en/ateneo/storia.htm, on 6th of May 2013 under the theme “Inner Peace, Peace among Peoples”.

2. The participants were of the view that the different papers presented, formal discussions, friendly dialogues during free times contributed to deepen the mutual understanding of each other’s traditions, to know better the convergence and divergence and to be aware of the mutual responsibility to maintain or to restore peace.
3. The participants coming from Italy, Japan, the Republic of China (Taiwan), Vietnam, South Korea, Thailand, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and India noted that the religious landscape of the world today is undergoing rapid changes. In that context the followers of different religious traditions can contribute to friendship and solidarity among persons and peoples.
4. For Christians, sin in all its forms – selfishness and violence, greed and the inordinate desire for power and dominion, intolerance, hatred and unjust structure – ruptures the communion between God and us and among ourselves. The restoration of peace necessarily requires liberation from sin and its rejection. Jesus Christ restored the broken divine-human communion. Peace is therefore the state of those who live in harmony with God, with themselves, with others and with the whole of creation.
5. As regards Buddhists, Buddha Sakyamuni taught that the root of all evil is ignorance and false views based on greed or hatred and he discovered the Four Noble Truths as a path of liberation from suffering to Nirvana. Accordingly the ethics and mental purity are but two aspects of the same path of practice: the stillness of meditation and working for the liberation of all beings from their suffering sustained by the third aspect of the path: wisdom. In fact, the real Buddhist compassion flows from the awareness of the substantial identity and unity of all beings, a Wisdom that is deeply rooted in the contemplative practice.
6. In both the Christian and Buddhist journeys, therefore, inner freedom, purification of the heart, compassion and the gift of self are the essential conditions for the inner peace of the individual as well as for social peace.
7. In spite of differences, both Buddhist and Christian ethical teaching on respect for life is a search for common good based on loving kindness and compassion. The participants expressed that dialogue between Buddhists and Christians be strengthened to face new challenges such as threat to human life, poverty, hunger, endemic diseases, violence, war, etc., which belittle the sanctity of human life and poison peace in human society.
8. The participants recognized that they have a special responsibility in addressing these issues. The desire for cooperation for the well-being of humanity ought to spring from the depth of spiritual experiences. Only inner peace can transform the human heart and make one see in his/her neighbour another brother and sister. If we really want to build a world of peace, it is vitally important that we join forces to educate people, especially the young, to seek peace, to live in peace and to risk working for peace.
9 The colloquium concluded with the affirmation that it is love which brings or restores peace to human hearts and establishes it in our midst. The participants also observed that the path of peace is difficult; it demands courage, patience, perseverance, determination and sacrifice. They consider dialogue a priority and a sign of hope. It must continue!

Second Buddhist-Christian Coloquium Concluding Statement:

WORD AND SILENCE IN BUDDHIST AND CHRISTIAN TRADITIONS
Second Buddhist-Christian Coloquium Concluding Statement

The Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue held its second Buddhist-Christian Colloquium at the Benedictine monastery of Asirvanam in Bangalore, India, from 8 to 13 July. Eighteen persons from various countries took part, seven Buddhists and 11 Christians.

The Bangalore meeting aimed to deepen the friendship and dialogue with Buddhists which began in August 1995 at the Buddhist monastery of Fo Kuang Shan in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. On that occasion the theme was: Buddhism and Christianity: Convergences and Divergences, while the theme of the meeting in Bangalore was: Word and Silence in Buddhist and Christian Traditions. This general topic was divided further into sub-themes: Buddhist Enlightenment and Christian Revelation; Sacred Texts in the Buddhist and Christian Traditions; Meditation and Contemplation in Buddhism and in Christianity; Anatta/Sunyata and Kenosis.
Once again it was desired to hold the colloquium in a monastery, this time a Catholic one. At the end of the meeting, the participants unanimously approved a Final Declaration which it is hoped will be useful for a further Buddhist-Christian dialogue.
1. The Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue organized its second international colloquium at the Asirvanam Benedictine Monastery in Bangalore, India, from 8 to 13 July 1998. A small number of Buddhists and Christians from India, Tibet/India, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and the United States were invited for a dialogue on the theme of “Word and Silence in Buddhist and Christian Traditions”. This recent encounter was in response to a desire expressed at the Pontifical Council’s first colloquium that was held from 31 July to 4 August 1995 at the Fo Kuang Shan Buddhist Monastery in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. At the end of that first dialogue, the participants expressed the desire to meet again in a Christian monastery in order to contribute to the deepening of the modern encounter between Buddhism and Christianity.
2. The agenda of the meeting included four major topics: Buddhist Enlightenment and Christian Revelation, Sacred Texts in the Buddhist and Christian Traditions, Meditation and Contemplation in Buddhism and Christianity, and Anatta/Sunyata and Kenosis. The papers were presented on these four topics in a way that fostered the dialogue process itself. In this process, all participants shared and explored their views of the place of word and silence in their respective traditions leading to a greater sense of mutual understanding and appreciation. This meeting proceeded by each side expressing what their own traditions believe, teach and celebrate. The following points indicate some of the areas that were explored in the dialogue.
3. The authority of the early sacred Buddhist texts was decided during the six great Buddhist councils called for at different periods of time by the Buddha’s disciples after his passing into Parinirvana. Theravada Buddhism accepts only the teachings of the Buddha that were declared authoritative during these councils. This early canon includes the discourses of the Buddha (Sutta), the rules for the monastic order (Vinaya), and the higher philosophical teachings (Abhidhamma). While Mahayana Buddhism accepts this early canon, it also accepts and emphasizes other sacred texts, called Sutras, which they believe were also taught by the Buddha. Within Mahayana there arose another tradition called Vajrayana that accepts the canons of both Theravada. and Mahayana and adds a new literature called the Tantras, that present Buddhist esoteric teachings. Common to these traditions are the precepts for living, the teachings of the Buddha, and the authoritative commentaries of the particular traditions. These sacred texts describe the path that leads to liberation from suffering and the nature and qualities of that supreme condition.
In the Catholic tradition of Christianity, it is the teaching authority of the Church that has faithfully received the revealed and inspired texts and has determined their canonicity. The canon of Sacred Scripture was decided over a period of centuries by the early Councils of the Church. This Sacred Scripture consists of two sections: the Old Testament, written in the Jewish tradition before Christ, and the New Testament written by the Apostles and their immediate disciples as witnesses of Christ. Christians believe that in Sacred Scripture God reveals himself and his love fully manifested in Christ, and speaks to us and tells us what to believe, how we should live, and what is needed for salvation.
4. Besides studying the truth (Dharma) conveyed in sacred texts, Buddhists also seek realization of this ultimate and transforming truth in their own experience of enlightenment. The writings of certain early monastics, men and women, who attained this goal and are considered patriarchs, are also thought to be authoritative – but always to a lesser degree than the earlier sacred texts. Enlightened masters are also looked to for guidance in following the Buddhist path. On the Christian side, the tradition of the Church that goes back to the Apostles is also seen as a foundation of faith along with Sacred Scripture. The Church greatly values the teachings of the Fathers and the Doctors of the Church who are canonized saints known for their eminent doctrine. Other saints and spiritual guides also have a role in transmitting an understanding of the word of God for Christian living.
5. Buddhists are respectful of the sacred texts of all religions. While they recognize that there are differences between the teachings of different scriptural traditions, they do not criticize views that are different from their own. They encourage their monastics and scholars to study other scriptures in order to understand their proper meaning. The Church respects the sacred texts of other religions and believes that they contain an impressive heritage of religious teachings that have guided the lives of millions of people for centuries.
These sacred texts of other religions are seen to contain elements of truth in which Christians are invited to discover seeds of the Word which the bountiful God has given to all people.
6. In Buddhism, the study of the sacred texts is considered to be essential for practice and therefore for realization. However, study is not enough; there must be silent meditative practice and a deepening of wisdom that comes from such practice. Here the practice of silence is needed to provide a spiritual condition for purification and thereby growth in inner awareness, wisdom, compassion, loving kindness and joyful sympathy reflected in thought, word and action. In Buddhism, the sacred texts are also used in recitation-practice that contributes to spiritual cultivation. Today, many lay Buddhist movements are teaching the sacred texts to the laity and are helping them live out the teachings of the Buddha in daily life. In this context, recitation-practice is again a powerful tool for mental and moral cultivation.
In Christianity, the word of God is used in community celebration, instruction and personal formation. The word of God carries the power of God to transform human existence in accordance with the mind and heart of Christ. The word of God has a central role in the liturgy of the Church, especially in the Eucharist, and the Divine Office. Christians – especially monastics humbly submit to the vivifying action of the Spirit in reading the word of God in lectio divina: sacred reading of scripture, meditative reflection, personal response in prayer, and – when all words cease – experiencing God’s presence in silent contemplation. In the Church today there are new lay movements that read the word of God in prayerful sharing and put it into practice in daily life. Here too there is the use of silence to deepen awareness of, and intimacy with God within. Also, in living the word of God with others, one is called to love them by silencing one’s mind and heart in order to be living fully for others.
7. The blending of word and silence in Buddhist practice of morality, meditation and wisdom contributes to a process of purification. This process leads to final liberation either in Nirvana or Buddhahood, depending on one’s tradition. It is observed that in Buddhist traditions glimpses of this liberation can be experienced even prior to its full attainment. Word and silence in Christian life both contribute to an ever deeper experience of salvation that includes liberation from evil within and without, and social transformation as well. For Christians, this salvation, offered to all, is understood as taking place in Jesus Christ where the human person is made new and society is renewed as the kingdom of God giving a foretaste of heaven.
8. The practice of Buddhism entails inner silence leading to the wonderful attainment of Nirvana or Buddhahood. In Theravada, this silence – a spiritual restraint of thoughts, words and actions – is the clearly defined practice resulting in the realization of the final goal of the clarity of wisdom. In Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism spiritual attainment also involves silence because of the realization of emptiness which is ineffable. For Christians, salvation begins in this world as God’s initiative received through faith and finds its completeness only after death. Baptism introduces the Christian into the paschal mystery of Christ, his Passion, Death and Resurrection. The realization of this free gift of God remains a mystery. The more one approaches God, the more one is aware of God’s ineffability. This awareness of God’s ineffability can be understood in terms of Christian hope. Hope is rooted in faith in the Trinity – a reality that is always beyond human understanding.
9. Buddhist nirvanic liberation leads one to live non-attached in daily life like a lotus flower that grows up in the muddy water but is not affected by it. Living this new freedom, the liberated person is characterized by service and commitment exercised for the benefit of self and others. In Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism, spiritual enlightenment in following the Bodhisattva ideal is expressed in a life dedicated to the benefit of all sentient beings. This liberated life is achieved by and articulated in Buddhism by the Eightfold Path.
According to the Christian tradition, the person is purified and transformed by the word of God through faith nourished by the Sacred Scriptures and the sacraments so that one reflects in all things the glory of God expressed in Jesus Christ. Since God is Love, this reflection of Christ entails an overflowing of self-giving love towards others. In daily life this means dying to one’s self to rise with Christ in a new life of selfless and redeeming love. This selfless life is seen in the example of the saints throughout the history of the Church. Charity for Christians is like a seed sown in the human heart by God where it expresses itself in the indivisible love of God and neighbour.
10. The colloquium concluded with an expression of gratitude to the members of the Asirvanam monastic community. The spiritual atmosphere of the monastery and the gentle hospitality in the good Benedictine tradition provided a setting that was congenial for pondering these deeper realities of word and silence in Buddhism and Christianity. The participants hope that this second dialogue was a further step in the encounter between Buddhism and Christianity. The participants see themselves as fellow pilgrims celebrating their similarities and accepting their differences as friends in the spiritual life. It is hoped by all that this international level of dialogue will continue to be fruitful for the two traditions and for the whole of humankind that today needs greater attention to both word and silence and is seeking the peace and love that these traditions teach and live.

BOY SCOUTS VOTE TO ALLOW HOMOSEXUAL MEMBERS

John Stemberger of On My Honor.net http://www.onmyhonor.net/, reports that the Boy Scouts leadership has voted to allow gay members, but not gay youth leaders.

Openly Gay Boy Scout Resolution will sexualize Scouting and devastate an American institution

Grapevine, TX Following the vote today by the Boy Scouts of America’s voting delegates to pass the resolution allowing “open and avowed homosexuality” in the Boy
Scouts, John Stemberger, Founder of OnMyHonor.Net,
a coalition of members of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) including parents, Scoutmasters, Eagle Scouts and other Scouting leaders who affirm Scouting’s timeless values, made the following statement:
“It is with great sadness and deep disappointment that we recognize on this day that the most influential youth program in America has turned a tragic corner. The vote today to allow open and avowed homosexuality into Scouting will completely transform it into an unprincipled and risky proposition for parents. It is truly a sad day for Scouting.
The Boy Scouts of America has a logo that bears the phrase ‘Timeless Values.’   Today, the BSA can no longer use this phrase in good faith.  It has demonstrated by its actions that the organization’s values are not timeless, and instead they are governed by changing tides of polls, politics and public opinion.
The saddest part of today’s decision is what the organization is teaching our children and young people in the program.
The BSA is teaching our kids that when your values becomeunpopular, just change them.
The BSA is teaching our kids that when your convictions are challenged, just cave to peer pressure.
The BSA is teaching our kids that public opinion polls are more important than principles.
Today, the BSA is teaching our kids that you should not stand up forwhat is right instead you should stand up for what is popular.
The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to “prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.”
BSA is teaching our kids through its new mission that we don’t make ethical and moral choices through the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law but we make them like an unprincipled politician does, by putting your finger in the air and seeing which way the wind is blowing or by looking at the latest polling results.
What kind of a message are we sending to young people about being brave when its top adult leaders don’t even have the courage to stand up to the pressure of a militant lobby when the bullies in Washington DC, Hollywood or even some of their own renegade councils start pressuring and harassing them?
Each and every one of the thousands of Scouting families that have supported and followed our movement must now make a very difficult decision. We respect the right for each parent and family to decide whether they will continue their membership in the Boy Scouts of American or not.
Many, like me and my family, cannot continue to support an organization more concerned with the intolerant demands of activists while compromising the safety and security of the young people they swore to serve.  In July of last year, the BSA said after a two year study from 2010 to 2012, the eleven member task force unanimously concluded that their existing policy on this issue was “the absolute best policy for the Boy Scouts of American.”  Suddenly, less than a year later, that is abruptly reversed.
We hoped to keep sex and politics out of Scouting. Now we grieve for those young boys who will not have the wonderful traditions and experiences that so many of us have had in Scouting.
Despite this setback, we will look to the future. I am pleased to announce that OnMyHonor.Net along with other likeminded organizations, parents and BSA members, are announcing a coalition meeting that will take place next month in Louisville, Kentucky. There we will discuss the creation of a new character development organization for boys. While the meeting will be private, your voice is very important to us and will be represented there.  We will host and facilitate a national coalition meeting of former BSA parents and other youth leaders who wish to return to truly timeless values that once made the BSA great.  We welcome your comments as we develop our plans. Please share your thoughts with us atContact@OnMyHonor.Net
We grieve today, not because we are faced with leaving Scouting, but because the Boy Scouts of America has left us. Its leadership has turned its back on 103 years of abiding by a mission to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices.  Instead, it is embarking on a pathway of social experimentation that we believe will place at risk the very youth the organization is entrusted to serve, while rendering as hollow the tenets of the Scout Oath.  Many of us find that unacceptable, and we have a desire to explore how we might serve families and young people at the highest standard originally intended by Scouting’s founder, Robert Baden-Powell.”

I realize there are additional victims and witnesses who are undecided about coming forward for a wide range of reasons (e.g., finances, time off, peer pressure, fear of retaliation, etc.).  Please don’t be deterred by these obstacles.  You may suffer but your action will please God and serve the good of others.
One final comment.  I know a few victims no longer confess the Christian faith.  It is still so important for you to speak up and get your voice back.  If you remain silent these predators will not stop.  Please take a stand. These abusers need to be removed from their homes, neighborhoods and churches.  You can play a big part in making sure that happens.
Speaking up will also help you find some closure.  Silence suffocates.  I know.  I remained silent about other forms of abuse in SGM for too long.  It eats at you.  There is freedom in doing what’s right.  You’ll be at greater peace knowing you have stopped evil.
No one has asked or prompted me to put out this appeal for evidence.
Thank you

DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE ISSUES “GAY PRIDE ORDER”: “SILENCE WILL BE INTERPRETED AS DISAPPROVAL”

From Americans for Truth About Homosexuality has an important article by Matt Barber: http://americansfortruth.com/2013/05/22/barber-doj-gay-pride-order-silence-will-be-interpreted-as-disapproval/. Matt Barber is Director of Cultural Affairs with both Liberty Counsel and Liberty Alliance Action. Here is the article in full. (Bold is this blog’s for emphasis).

By Matt Barber
Under President Obama, “justice” is anything but blind. Neither is it deaf. In fact, based on recent revelations, it appears to be watching your every move and listening to your every word. Still, if you happen to be a federal employee, now it’s even listening for your silence.
The only thing this Obama White House seems to generate is scandal. Well, here’s yet another to add to the growing list. In addition to the Benghazi cover-up, IRS targeting of political dissenters and the illegal seizure of media phone records, whistleblowers within DOJ have contacted Liberty Counsel to express grave concerns over this administration’s latest attack on freedom.
Our sources have provided Liberty Counsel an internal DOJ document titled: “LGBT Inclusion at Work: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Managers.” (See: http://libertycounsel.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/LGBT_tips_for_managers.pdf).
It was emailed to DOJ managers in advance of the Left’s so-called “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month.”
The document is chilling. It’s riddled with directives that grossly violate – prima facie – employees’ First Amendment liberties.
Following are excerpts from the “DOJ Pride” decree. When it comes to “LGBT” employees, managers are instructed:
  • “DON’T judge or remain silent. Silence will be interpreted as disapproval.” (Italics mine)
That’s a threat.
And not even a subtle one.
Got it? For Christians and other morals-minded federal employees, it’s no longer enough to just shut up and “stay in the closet” – to live your life in silent recognition of biblical principles (which, by itself, is unlawful constraint). When it comes to mandatory celebration of homosexual and cross-dressing behaviors, “silence will be interpreted as disapproval.”
This lawless administration is now bullying federal employees – against their will – to affirm sexual behaviors that every major world religion, thousands of years of history and uncompromising human biology reject.
Somewhere, right now, George Orwell is smiling.
The directive includes a quote from a “gay” federal employee to rationalize justification: “Ideally, I’d love to hear and see support from supervisors, so it’s clear that there aren’t just policies on paper. Silence seems like disapproval. There’s still an atmosphere of LGBT issues not being appropriate for the workplace (particularly for transgender people), or that people who bring it up are trying to rock the boat.”
Of course there’s “still an atmosphere of LGBT issues not being appropriate for the workplace.” When well over half of federal employees, half the country and most of the world still acknowledge objective sexual morality (and immorality), “the workplace,” especially the federal workplace, should, at the very least, remain neutral on these highly controversial and behavior-centric issues.
Still, to borrow from self-styled “queer activist,” anti-Christian bigot and Obama buddy Dan Savage, “it gets better”:
  • “DO assume that LGBT employees and their allies are listening to what you’re saying (whether in a meeting or around the proverbial water cooler) and will read what you’re writing (whether in a casual email or in a formal document), and make sure the language you use is inclusive and respectful.”
Is this the DOJ or the KGB? “[A]ssume that LGBT employees are listening …”? And what are “LGBT allies”? If you disagree with the homosexual activist political agenda, does that make you the enemy?
Yes, in any workplace, language should remain professional, but who defines what’s “inclusive”? Who decides what’s “respectful”? If asked about “LGBT issues,” for instance, can a Christian employee answer honestly: “I believe the Bible. I believe that God designed sex to be shared between husband and wife within the bonds of marriage”? Or is that grounds for termination?
Here are some more DOs:
  • DO “Attend LGBT events sponsored by DOJ Pride and/or the Department, and invite (but don’t require) others to join you.”
  • DO “Display a symbol in your office (DOJ Pride sticker, copy of this brochure, etc.) indicating that it is a ‘safe space.’”
Are you kidding? Does this administration really think it’s legal to induce managers to “attend LGBT events,” or to “display pride stickers” against their will? That’s compulsory expression. That’s viewpoint discrimination.
That’s unconstitutional.
But there’s more:
  • “DO use inclusive words like ‘partner,’ ‘significant other’ or ‘spouse’ rather than gender-specific terms like ‘husband’ and ‘wife’ (for example, in invitations to office parties or when asking a new employee about his/her home life).”
Oh, brother.
Sorry. Oh, gender-neutral sibling.
  • “DO use a transgender person’s chosen name and the pronoun that is consistent with the person’s self-identified gender.”
In other words, lie. Engage in corporate delusion.
  • “DO deal with offensive jokes and comments forcefully and swiftly when presented with evidence that they have occurred in the workplace.”
  • “DO communicate a zero-tolerance policy for inappropriate jokes and comments, including those pertaining to a person’s sexual orientation and gender identity or expression.”
Who gets to decide what’s an “inappropriate joke [or] comment”? I thought we had a Constitution for that. It sure ain’t Big Brother Barack. Sure, I get it, it’s probably better not to start your work day with: “A lesbian, a tranny and two gays walk into a bath house …” but still, “no law … abridging the freedom of speech,” means no law. No matter how much Obama wishes it so, we don’t leave our constitutional rights at the federal workplace door.
The DOJ edict even addresses cross-dressing man woes:
“As a transgender woman [that’s a man in a skirt], I want people to understand that I’m real. I want to be recognized as the gender I really am [again, you’re a man in a skirt]. Yes, there was awkwardness with pronouns at first for folks who knew me before the transition. But it hurts when several years later people still use the wrong pronouns. And just imagine if people were constantly debating YOUR bathroom privileges. Imagine how humiliating that would be.”
Tell you what, buddy: I won’t “debate YOUR bathroom privileges” if you return to this planet. You’d better stay the heck out of the ladies room while my wife or two daughters are in there; otherwise, we have a problem. Women have an absolute right not be sexually harassed in the workplace – a right to privacy when using the facilities. To constantly worry whether a gender-confused, cross-dressing man is going to invade her privacy creates a hostile work environment.
This “DOJ Pride” directive is but the latest example of the “progressive” climate of fear and intimidation this radical Obama regime has created for Christians, conservatives and other values-oriented folks, both within and without the workplace.
I’m just glad the wheels are finally coming off.

LIGHTHOUSE TRAILS RESEARCH REPORTS FIL ANDERSON OF BILLY & FRANKLIN GRAHAM’S “SAMARITAN’S PURSE” A GRADUATE OF SHALEM INSTITUTE JUST LIKE RUTH HALEY BARTON

See: http://www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com/newsletters/2013/newsletters20130521.htm.

Shalem-Trained Contemplative Fil Anderson Member of Samaritan’s Purse “Spiritual Care Team”
Fil Anderson is a name Lighthouse Trails has been acquainted with for several years because of his
book Running on Empty: Contemplative Spirituality for Overachievers and his involvement with
organizations such as Youth Specialties and Young Life (Anderson had been in Young Life leadership
for many years and  is still involved with the organization). Anderson also speaks with Richard Foster’s
organization, Renovare.
To say Anderson’s book is contemplative would be an understatement. The book is filled with
contemplative names such as Brennan Manning, Dallas Willard, Richard Foster, Evelyn Underhill, and
John Cassian. Also favorably named in the book are: Thomas Merton, Soren Kierkegaard, Sue Monk
Kidd, Tilden Edwards, Gerald May, and several others who fall into the panentheistic mystical camp.
Contemplative prayer is clearly the theme of the book. In addition to the contemplative advocates
referenced and quoted in the book, contemplative practices such as lectio divina, repetitionof a word or
phrase, and the Jesus Prayer are also promoted. One of the books that Anderson quotes from is Morton
Kelsey’s book, The Other Side of Silence: A Guide to Christian Meditation. Kelsey is a contemplative
mystic who has influenced tens of thousands of people. Practicing mystical meditation led Kelsey to say:
“You can find most of the New Age practices in the depth of Christianity. . . . I believe that the Holy One
lives in every soul.”1  And also:

Each church needs to provide classes in forms of prayer. This is only possible if seminaries are
training pastors in prayer, contemplation and meditation, and group process. . . . The church has

nothing to fear from the New Age when it preaches, teaches, and heals.
Like Ruth Haley Barton, Fil Anderson was trained at the Shalem Institute on Spiritual Formation. He spent
two years in training there. In the acknowledgements of his book, Anderson thanks “[t]he magnificent
people at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation, for playing such a vital role in my spiritual formation,
especially Rose Mary Dougherty, Tilden Edwards, and Gerald May.”  This is not a surprising comment
coming from someone who is totally sold on contemplative prayer. But it is disheartening to learn that
Anderson is involved with Franklin Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse. Anderson is a member of the  Spiritual
Care Team. We called Samaritan’s Purse and were told that the Spiritual Care Team is a group of
volunteers made up mostly of long-time “friends” of Samaritan’s Purse whose primary purpose is to do
follow-up phone calls with people who have been in need. We asked the person we spoke with at
Samaritan’s Purse if all the Spiritual Care Team members were Christians, and she told us that each
team member was a “solid” Christian believer. We asked if a New Ager would be allowed to be on the
Spiritual Care Team, and she said, “probably not.” Obviously, to those who understand the dynamics of
contemplative spirituality, it is troubling to know that Samaritan’s Purse is using a strong contemplative
proponent to “minister” to people in need. If those people, in their time of great need, are directed in any
way to the teachings of mystics like Thomas Merton, Tilden Edwards, Sue Monk Kidd, or Gerald May, how
is this going to help them? In actuality, it can hurt them deeply. For one, these mystics believe that God
dwells in everything (all creation and in every human being) and thus the message of the Cross
(the Gospel) would not be needed. Secondly, should these people in need begin to practice contemplative
mysticism, they will end up with occultism rather than with God’s Holy Spirit. Like most contemplatives,
Anderson describes a spiritual emptiness in his life: “In my deepest parts I knew that God was everywhere.
Yet often I wondered and even doubted whether God was in my spirit” (Running on Empty, Kindle
Locations 259-260). Anderson talks about being so busy with church activities when he was a young
Christian man that he finally became burnt out – filled with despair and depression. He ended up in a
psychiatric hospital where he received some temporary help. After college, Anderson became a leader
in the international Christian organization Young Life. He eventually slipped back into feeling burnt out
and in despair until one day he attended a retreat where he read a book by panentheist Thomas Kelly.
From there on out, Anderson’s life changed, and he became a contemplative, looking to the mystics he
writes about in his book for his spiritual nourishment.
This is just another example of how contemplative spirituality has come into the church. We believe there
are very few Christian organizations that have not been affected to some degree.
Samaritan’s Purse is an organization that helps people in dire need. On their Statement of Faith, they
adhere to the basic fundamentals of the Christian Faith. We hope they can be alerted to the truth about
contemplative spirituality and would reconsider allowing mysticism proponents to offer spiritual ”help” to
people in need.
Years ago, Lighthouse Trails sent a copy of A Time of Departing to Franklin Graham’s office. We don’t
know if he ever read it. We are going to send a copy of this article and another copy of A Time of
Departing to his office this week. Please pray that he will receive the book and will read it.
On the Samaritan’s Purse website, it states that their mission is “to follow the example of Christ by
helping those in need and proclaiming the hope of the Gospel.” The hope of the Gospel and
contemplative spirituality do not line up together. They are on two opposite poles.
