MONTGOMERY COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA ISSUES GAY MARRIAGE LICENSES IN DEFIANCE OF STATE LAW

UPDATE ON GAY MARRIAGE IN PENNSYLVANIA
Montgomery County Register of Wills joins Attorney General in defiance of state law:
Culture News reported at: https://ratherexposethem.org/2013/07/obamas-marriage-lawlessness-spreads-to.html, that D. Bruce Hanes, register of wills in Montgomery County, Norristown, PA, just north of Philadelphia, has been issuing gay marriage licenses in defiance of state law, since the U.S. Supreme Court made its decision. This is the same moral relativism as the Attorney General that we previously posted about. Hanes is being sued by the state Health Department.

Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane of Pennsylvania:

From the PA Attorney General, this press release:

July 11, 2013
Attorney General Kane will not defend DOMA
HARRISBURG – Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane today announced that the Office of Attorney General will not defend Pennsylvania’s Defense of Marriage Act in a recently filed lawsuit (Whitewood, et al vs Corbett, et al). The lawsuit challenges Pennsylvania’s Defense of Marriage Act, based on the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the United States Constitution.
The law, commonly referred to as DOMA, prohibits marriage between people of the same sex. In addition, under DOMA, same-sex marriages that are legally made in other states are void in Pennsylvania.
“I cannot ethically defend the constitutionality of Pennsylvania’s version of DOMA where I believe it to be wholly unconstitutional,” Kane said.
“It is my duty under the Commonwealth Attorneys Act whenever I determine it is in the best interest of the Commonwealth to authorize the Office of General Counsel to defend the state in litigation.”
“Additionally, it is a lawyer’s ethical obligation under Pennsylvania’s Rules of Professional Conduct to withdraw from a case in which the lawyer has a fundamental disagreement with the client,” said Kane.
Kane made the following points about DOMA:
  • Pennsylvania’s DOMA, like the federal DOMA, imposes a disadvantage, a separate status, and a stigma on those who enter into same-sex marriages.
  • Pennsylvania’s DOMA wrongly denies same-sex couples the fundamental right to marry in Pennsylvania; and for those same-sex couples who legally marry outside Pennsylvania, it denies them the fundamental right to have their lawful marriage recognized in our state.
  • Pennsylvania’s DOMA has no legitimate purpose other than to disparage and injure same-sex couples by placing them in a less respected position than others.
  • The discriminatory treatment explicitly authorized by DOMA violates both the US and Pennsylvania Constitution.
“I know that in this state there are people who don’t believe in what we are doing, and I’m not asking them to believe in it. I’m asking them to believe in the constitution,” Kane said.

The issue of same-sex marriage is squarely in the tradition of the struggle for civil rights in the U.S.

“We have always stood strong in the face of discrimination, which in its various forms has never withstood the test of time,” Kane said.
“It is our duty, each and every one of us, to protect the constitutionality, to protect the rights and dignity of others, and to protect the equality of all men and women in this Commonwealth.”

IRANIAN ISLAMIC PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS & BAHAIS~AMERICAN CHRISTIAN PASTOR SAEED ABEDINI IMPRISONED, BEATEN, ABUSED, & DENIED MEDICAL CARE FOR BEING “UNCLEAN” BY MUSLIM NURSE

WHAT OBAMA FAILED TO MENTION AT THE WHITE HOUSE RAMADAN IFTAR DINNER. HE COULD HAVE ASKED FOR HELP FROM THE ISLAMIC “BUILDERS OF AMERICA”, BUT DIDN’T. WE KNOW WHY!

Persecution in Iran

In this video, Dr. Hormoz Shariat, President and Founder of Iran Alive Ministries, shares his unique perspective on the difficult circumstances facing Believers in Iran. Dr. Shariat discusses his personal relationship to Saeed Abedini’s family and how to pray for the persecuted church in Iran. According to the extensive research of Operation World, Iran is home to the fastest growing Evangelical population in the world. The mosques are empty and the people have rejected Islam. As a result, persecution of Believers is increasing exponentially as well.

Pastor Saeed has been quoted here at Christian News:
“The nurse would also come to take care of us and provide us with treatment, but she said in front of others ‘in our religion we are not suppose to touch you, you are unclean. Baha’i (religion) and Christians are unclean!’” Abedini outlined in a letter this past March. “She did not treat me, and that night I could not sleep from the intense pain I had. According to the doctor’s instructions, they would not give me the pain medication that they would give other prisoners because I was unclean.” “On July 20, 2013, he was taken to a private hospital in Tehran for treatment and, for the first time, he was examined by a physician and prescribed medication for injuries he sustained from the beatings he endured by prison guards.”

Pastor Saeed Abedini has planted 100 house churches in 30 towns and cities in Iran, as well as a children’s orphanage more recently. In January 2013, he was sentenced to 8 years in prison for “national security reasons”, Islamic religious heresy and apostasy, and as an overall threat to the state religion of Islam.  He endures torture and abuse for his Christian faith. Please pray for his release and call or write your congressional representatives. Please note that he is one of many Christians and Bahais imprisoned because their faiths are not approved by the state.

Pastor Saeed Abedini shares a message to the persecuted church, just prior to his wrongful imprisonment in Iran. All around the world, the church is experiencing persecution in one form or another. In one place, Christians might be singled out for poor treatment in the work place. In another nation, they may lose their property or homes because of faith in Christ. Still other believers may be imprisoned or in the worst situations even die for the Good News.

Vissarion claims to be a reincarnation of Jesus. He teaches reincarnation, veganism, the impending end of the world (or at least of civilization as we know it), and the belief of aliens. On August 18, 1990, when he was 29, Vissarion claims that he had a revelation that he was the reincarnation of Christ. He first spoke publicly in Minusinsk on 18 August 1991. He founded the “Church of the Last Testament” (Церковь Последнего Завета Tserkov Poslednego Zaveta), also known as “Community of Unified Faith”.

Vissarion was born in Krasnodar; after service in the Red Army, he settled in Minusinsk. He worked as a patrol officer before losing his job in 1989.
He claims that in 1990 he was “reborn” as Vissarion, the returned Jesus Christ. In his system this does not make him God, but instead the word of God. His religion combines elements of the Russian Orthodox Church with Buddhism, apocalypticism, collectivism, and ecological values. His followers observe strict regulations, are vegans, and are allowed no vices such as smoking or drinking alcohol and money is banned. The aim of the group is to unite all religions on Earth. Vissarion has two wives, and six children from two marriages. He rejected his first wife and married a nineteen year-old girl, who had lived with Vissarion since the age of seven. Vissarion has a sister named Irina. Vissarion considers Mary, mother of Jesus, as his own mother.

Deep in Siberia’s Taiga forest,

is Vissarion, a native Bulgarian, (see: http://vissarion.eu/), a cult leader who looks like Jesus and claims to be the voice of God. He’s known as “the Teacher” to his 4,000+ vegetarian ex-professional followers, who initially seem surprisingly normal. Over time, however, their unflinching belief in UFOs and the Earth’s imminent demise made this group start to look more and more like some sort of strange cult. Vissarion is a 29-year-old patrol officer and talented painter named Sergey Anatolyevitch Torop publicly declared himself reborn as Vissarion. Since then he’s fostered a “unified religion” that is a vast amalgam of Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, pagan, and other spiritual beliefs. Vissarion’s “Last Testament” is translated in part here: https://sites.google.com/site/vissariontestament/.

England and Wales became the 16th and 17th countries in the world to recognize gay marriage after Queen Elizabeth II gave “royal assent” to a same-sex marriage bill. Under the new law, gay men and women will be able to join together in civil ceremonies or in church services — although no religious denomination will be forced to carry out such services. Cheers, laughter and clapping broke out in the House of Commons when Speaker John Bercow announced the bill had been approved. “The fact that the bill passed through both Houses (Commons and Lords) undefeated is a huge accomplishment for the government,” said Equalities Minister Maria Miller. “This is an historic moment that will resonate in many people’s lives. I am proud that we have made it happen and I look forward to the first same sex wedding by next summer. The title of this bill might be ‘marriage’ but its fabric is about freedom and respect.”

DISCIPLES OF CHRIST DENOMINATION EMBRACES HOMOSEXUALITY

July 19, 2013
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ –
Grace and peace to you in the name of the living Christ who lives and moves among us,
who calls us to the Table, then sends us forth to serve.
I write to share a word with all Disciples congregations following an important vote at the
2013 Orlando General Assembly.
In these days following assembly, my heart is prayerful; my spirit hopeful; and my love
for our church is strong. Surely, God has given Disciples a blessing and a mission
for wholeness, welcoming all to the Lord’s Table of reconciliation and love.
That blessing and mission for Disciples begins in a congregation. In congregations we
come forward and make or reaffirm our confession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and
Savior. There we are baptized, our babies are dedicated, we are married and our parents
buried. Our faith is nurtured and sometimes challenged in a beloved community of other
Disciples we know and love.
We extend the blessing as we join hands with other Disciples congregations to share God’s
love in our communities and around the world. We offer words and prayers of comfort and
challenge, as well as hands-on help, to our neighbor in times of need. In many diverse
ways, we learn the story of Jesus and invite others to walk in his love.
The recent vote to “adopt” Resolution GA1327, Becoming a People of Grace and Welcome
to All, has significance for the Church, but it is important to recognize the nature of that
significance. The intent of the resolution is to urge Disciples to welcome into our
congregations and other ministries all who seek Christ. It serves as a reminder that
among Disciples we do not bar the church door or fence the table from those who
desire the embrace of God’s love.
Here is what this “Sense of the Assembly” resolution is not:
 It is not a statement of “unwelcome” for Disciples who did not support the
resolution. All who confess faith in Jesus Christ are welcome. All means all.
 It is not a policy change. The congregation where you worship and serve will not be
requested to establish (or change) a policy on gay or lesbian persons in the life of
the Church. The region where your congregation is affiliated is not required to
change its policies on ordination. Your pastor is not required to bless same-gender
marriages.
 It is not a theological mandate. It does not say that we have the same biblical
understanding of sexual orientation or gender identity. Disciples, prayerfully and with
biblical study and other research, come to their own understanding on these
matters.
This resolution does, however, carry symbolic importance in the life of our Church. It
reminds us that our baptism into the living Christ continues to be our common ground
It points out that within the broad membership of Disciples, among the many congregations
in covenant with each other, there have always been gay and straight, lesbian, bi-sexual
and transgender persons who participate fully in the life and leadership of the church. It
urges us to treat each other with gospel hospitality as we seek to understand each
other better.
My deepest hope is that, in the coming weeks and months, with God’s help, we will
continue in worship and mission together even when we profoundly disagree – as we have
so often done before – recognizing that it is God’s covenant of love that binds us to God
and to one another1
in Christ. My prayer is that together we will continue to witness to
God’s gift of reconciliation and wholeness before the brokenness of the world.
United though not uniform, diverse but not divided, let us name our differences, then
claim our common calling to be and to share the good news of Jesus Christ who
came “that the world might be saved”. (John 3:17)

The Rev. Dr. Sharon Watkins

JEFF PINDER PASTOR OF FAITH BAPTIST CHURCH WILMINGTON DELAWARE GRIEVES HOLY SPIRIT BY REFERENCING KNOWN APOSTATES, HERETICS, AND PSYCHOBABBLERS IN SERMONS

2 Peter 2:22-“But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: ‘A dog returns to his own vomit,’ and, ‘a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.'”
Luke 6:39-“And He spoke a parable to them: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch?”
John 8:12-“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
John 12:46- “I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.”
John 14:17-“the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”
John 15:18-19-“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”
Romans 1:28-“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting”
Galatians 6:8-“For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”
1 Corinthians 15:33-“Do not be deceived: ‘Evil company corrupts good habits.'”

We will demonstrate that Jeffrey R. Pinder, the new senior pastor of Faith Baptist Church, Wilmington, Delaware as of January 1, 2013, has shown a compromised preference in his sermons for the unregenerate as sources of wisdom and spiritual insight as extra-biblical aids to punctuate and undergird the Word of God and the work of the Holy Spirit. Unabashedly, and defiantly, Pinder himself publicly preached that church is for the unchurched seekers, not believers, a concept he knows is blatantly unbiblical, but expedient when you are looking to stop the hemorrhaging of members and making the church more world friendly and “relevant”. It’s by sullying his sermons with such junk yard filth and garbage from apostates, heretics, and homosexual practitioners/affirmers, that the Word is diminished and denigrated by its portrayal as inscrutable and bland as pale white bread, when in fact, the Word is sufficient and powerful unto itself, needing no help, as per:
2 Timothy 3:16-17:-“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
Pinder has also preferred not to advertise his phone number or e-mail address. He has not answered any of our e-mails sent to office@fbcwilmington.com, and instead has had his staff delete them immediately.
Pinder was ordained to the ministry in 1996 at Swift Creek Baptist Church in Midlothian, Virginia. Pastor Jeff received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and Graduate School in 2010. See Doctoral Dissertation: http://digitalcommons.liberty.edu/doctoral/392/
He has served in various ministerial roles (pastor, student pastor, missionary) in Florida http://www.fbcpsj.org/, Virginia, Delaware, and the Bahamas. He is passionate about family, personal discipleship, and fulfilling the Great Commission. See: http://fbcwilmington.com/meet_the_staff.html.
Pinder also wrote a book “Forged by Conviction” about the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia, with which he was affiliated, although he claims no present affiliation with the Southern Baptist Convention nationally or locally. His previous church in Florida was affiliated with the North West Coast Baptist Association, part of the Southern Baptists shown here: http://www.nwcbap.org/church.cfm?ID=45, and also with the Florida Baptist Convention affiliated with the SBC:
http://www.flbaptist.org/ChurchSearch/ChurchSearchResults/ChurchDetails/CID/1811010.aspx
This Florida church has videos where contemporary Christian music is played: http://www.fbcpsj.org/audiovideo.php. Likewise, church plants coming from this Florida church have all affiliated with the Southern Baptists.
Faith Baptist of Wilmington, Delaware is an “independent Baptist church” (not yet affiliated with the Southern Baptists), whose members and friends will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the church on September 28-29, 2013. Its history under the founding pastor, Bill Bowen, and then George Nichols up unto recently, has been one of a carefully shepherded form of Arminian non-fundamentalism, void of any concept of biblical separation or mention of the Reformed five solas, and more closely aligned with the “decisions for Christ” ecumenical philosophy of Billy Graham, than the providential grace and sovereignty of God doing the saving. It has a full history of isolating from, and not involving itself in, the local Delawarian and regional culture and politics in general, based on a faulty interpretation and acceptance of the so-called separation of church and state. While claiming to be evangelical and supportive of missions, it carefully distances itself from social and moral issues like abortion, homosexuality and gay marriage, resigning itself to the defeatist/fatalist/passive mindset that the moral decline of the area is an eschatological fulfillment of prophecy, hastening the return of Christ, and consequently distracts from the main goal of salvations, with an unbiblical “let God do it” approach to evangelization. This weakens what could have been and could be a strong local evangelical presence in Delaware and elsewhere. Instead, the concentration on the personal “victorious Christian life” places the focus on individual self-centered spiritual growth, not the ministry to the lost.
This mindset is likely due to its close ties to the Keswick/Quietist movement (see below about “America’s Keswick” camp, and section “O” about Scott Newton Smith). It claims to have ties with so-called “sister churches”, but no one has ever been able to identify them. It has ecumenical tendencies such as their interfaith Good Friday service which allows pastors from various denominations to speak. Some believe those are the so-called “sister churches”, but no one is sure.
Faith Baptist is full of religious pride touting they are the best traditional and conservative church in New Castle County, carefully avoiding however, any criticism, negative comments, and/or condemnation of other apostate or heretical churches, personalities or denominations. That leaves the congregation totally ignorant and unprepared to refute error, unable and unwilling to contend for the faith. As long as false teaching is seen as residing elsewhere and not an immediate and present threat, church members are perfectly comfortable in their willing ignorance.
This church values the “saved for works” concept, but simultaneously ignoring the need for acknowledging the depravity of sin and repentance as accompanying salvation, placing a heavy emphasis on decisions for Christ, due in part to its very close affiliation with the Word of Life ministry of Pottersville, New York, http://www.wol.org/, and its facilities in Europe and elsewhere. Many of the church’s youth have gone to Word of Life where they are further reinforced in unbiblical decisionism accompanied by works. In all, the line between salvation by works and salvation by grace is very much a blurry one; the distinction is usually not a matter of dogma. It’s just one of those non-essentials.
Faith Baptist has a type of “gospel message” on its website loaded with problems, and which we requested by e-mail that it be revised. This e-mail has never been acknowledged or answered. Their so-called “gospel message” fraught with unbiblical and erroneous elements has never been revised since.
    Text of e-mail, dated January 25, 2013:
“Concerning the ‘Gospel Message’ at:
http://fbcwilmington.com/message.html

It is a watered down gospel presentation lacking
repentance, i.e., not as a requirement for salvation along with faith,
but as the fruit of faith, flowing from that faith. I have listed
several articles that support this below. In addition, there are a
number of other problems with the language of this gospel message as
written. I am requesting that this grossly erroneous gospel presentation
be removed from the website and a suitable, biblical one replace it as
soon as possible.
Please advise how this got onto the website, and who is responsible?

My objections are:

1) No mention of the fallen state of mankind through Adam’s sin, being
born with a sin nature.

2) No mention of the definition of sin being the failure to keep God’s
law (which shows us we are incapable of keeping the law).

3) Jesus did not die on a cross to “bridge” our separation with the
Father because of sin, or to “cover” our sins. He died as a the only
perfect sacrifice of sacrifices heretofore (the Jewish temple
sacrifices), accomplishing a completely sufficient atoning sacrifice to
pay for our sins and our sin debt in full, which cancels our sin
completely in the eyes of the Father, due to the imputed righteousness
of Christ to us the believer, AND TO SAVE US FROM SIN. To use the words
“bridge” and “cover” is to oversimplify, and diminish the work of
Christ. It is theologically incorrect, unbiblical, and therefore heresy.
Salvation is not merely the construction of some sort of mystical
“bridge” or placing a mystical “cover” over sin, but effective in
dealing fully and completely with sin itself.

4) No mention of numerous verses in Hebrews which define the uniqueness
and sufficiency of Christ’s sacrifice. They are: Heb 7:27; Heb 9:26; Heb
10:1; Heb 10:12.

5) No mention of Christ’s actual death on the cross. Instead we are told
about an anonymous “eternal being” being sacrificed (in what way?),
here: “Sacrificing an eternal being is the only way to provide an
eternal sacrifice for a non-eternal man”. Rather, this eternal being
should have been named properly as Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Secondly, Christ’s sacrifice was “once for all” NOT an eternal
sacrifice! (Hebrews 7:27). Thirdly, man has a mortal body, but has an
eternal soul which will live for eternity in either heaven with God or
in hell with the lost; therefore it is misleading to state man is
non-eternal.

6) God requires, as a result of His condescending to sacrifice His Son
on our behalf, that we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior after admitting
our sinfulness, our inability to save ourselves, our need for a Savior,
our desire to serve Him alone, to begin to repent for our sins, and to
invite the Holy Spirit to help us repent and be sanctified. It is
grossly simplistic and erroneous to state that the only requirement is
“simple faith”, and not even naming the object of that faith (Jesus
Christ). This could easily be interpreted as “faith in oneself” and/or a
false Christ or false religion.

7) We are not saved “by God’s grace and through our faith”, since
“saving faith” is different from generic faith in that saving faith is a
gift from God, not of our own creation or will. This also minimizes the
absolute lost and depraved state of man who is incapable of
self-generating “saving faith” without divine help.

8) Alleged “Sinners Prayer”: Do we ask, tell or pray to God the sinner’s
“prayer”? In any case, prayer used to be the sign that the Holy Spirit
has regenerated the unbeliever to the point that he will not be so bold
as to ask or tell God about his desire to be saved, much less a prayer
addressed to Jesus instead of the Father who is the One that Jesus is
supposedly building a “bridge” to. This is a watered down, God offending
“quick prayer” which leads to “false converts by the thousands. To make
matters worse, forgiveness is asked for acknowledged sins, but no offer
or desire to repent is to be found therein.

9) “Did you meet with Jesus?” is setting up an expectation that it is
normal or common to actually meet the Son of God in some sort of
feelings based mystical experience, following “being saved”. That is
certainly not biblical and is an invitation into Catholic contemplative
mysticism. We meet with Jesus, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit
through the Bible, the Word of God, through what has already been
revealed therein. Otherwise, the convert is led to believe in
extra-biblical revelation, the mark of false gospels and the emerging
church.”

The church also has its ties to the Keswick camp http://www.americaskeswick.org/, in Whiting, New Jersey, where addicts are taught the heresy of the “victorious Christian life” (of Watchman Nee & others) in the hope that they will be saved and/or healed through a regimen that produces “sinless perfectionism” or something akin to it. All while being treated to “Christian rock” concerts as in:
http://www.americaskeswick.org/704880.ihtml, featuring the groups “Building 429 and The Afters”, and their show in October, 2013 called “United We Stand Tour”, with Hawk Nelson.

So who and what has Pinder referenced in his sermons to date that are problematic?

A) In 2012, before he was accepted as senior pastor, Pinder spoke to the congregation and referred to the mystical “divine spark” in all of us as in: http://apprising.org/2008/09/21/the-emergent-one/.(Gnostic “divine spark”). Also: http://www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com/blog/?p=9232.
Similarity to Sue Monk Kidd, former Southern Baptist Sunday school teacher, now feminine “goddess” worshiper: https://ratherexposethem.org/2012/12/sue-monk-kidd-former-sbc-sunday-school.html.
When confronted about this in an e-mail dated October 13, 2012, there was no answer.

B) E-mail sent to Pinder dated October 5, 2012 went unanswered: (full text)
“Would you please answer the following:

1) You stated that your preference is for contemporary "Christian"
music, including southern gospel as is demonstrated in the videos on
your church website in St. Joe, Florida. Since you indicated that this
type of music would not be the primary means of attracting young people
to church, will you nevertheless be introducing this music to Faith if
you accept the position, and for what purpose?
2) Are you aware of the ecumenical, charismatic, and Catholic
associations of many of the musicians who have authored such music, and
don't you have a problem with such?
3) Do you have ecumenical associations and do ministry with other
denominations, pastors, teachers and theologians and what or who are they?
4) Do you currently and will you allow Freemasons to join, become
members and participate in ministry at your current church and at Faith
should you accept the position?
5) Do you maintain membership in any secret society including Freemasons
or other organizations?
6) Do you maintain membership in and/or associate with any political
groups, or have sympathies toward them?
7) Besides contemporary music, do you agree with or will you implement
the church growth methodologies of Drucker, Hybels, Warren, Driscoll,
and others?
8) Are you continuationist, and do you agree with the
charismatic/pentecostal beliefs? Will you introduce same at Faith?
9) Do you reject the beliefs and practices of the New Apostolic
Reformation and its dominionist programs? Will you introduce same at Faith?
10) Do you believe in and practice contemplative mysticism and/or the
"silence" such as that practiced by the Catholic mystics and the Taize
facility in France? Will you introduce same at Faith?
11) Are you ordained in the Southern Baptist Convention?
12) Will you bring Faith into the SBC and/or affiliates?
13) Will you promote and encourage ecumenical endeavors and ministries
while at Faith?
14) Will you separate from and reject all apostasy, whether from
individuals, churches, teachers and/or preachers? Or do you repudiate
separation?
15) What bible version will you use at Faith and do you allow for the
use of many versions such as the Message bible?

Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions for us."

C) January 18, 2013: Observations about Pinder's recent sermon:
"I listened to the entire sermon given by Jeff Pinder on Jan.6, 2013. It is clearly in line
with the 2nd Reformation ideology of Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Church and his "seeker sensitive" approach to doing church. The Bill Hybels' Willow Creek Association iis offering a CD-ROM titled "Becoming a Contagious Christian" at the link below. The idea is to begin "seeker sensitive" church services. Pinder shamed the congregation at Faith Baptist that they've had too much Bible preaching, study, etc. and not enough action. That is
exactly what Warren has defined as his second Reformation, i.e., that the first Reformation was about beliefs and doctrine, the second being about actions, work and deeds, plus
undoing the first Reformation to make room for the second.
Secondly, he referred to Beth Moore, that is that too many at
Faith have been to the “Beth Moores” podcasts (such as at Brandywine
Valley Baptist Church). No warnings from Pinder though, about her
heretical and constant claims of personal revelations from God for
her followers, her blatant ecumenical leanings, and employment of
Catholic mystical “lectio divina” readings at “Passion 2012”.
Thirdly, Pinder wants to review all the ministries and teachers at
Faith, because the “congregation reviews” him and his sermons.
Fourthly, Pinder is about to place a heavy load of works and
programs on everyone to keep you busy growing the church.
Fifthly, Pinder will implement all kinds of changes based on whether
he thinks something is useful, practical and adds to growth, of
course appealing to the “seeker” and then the church itself becomes
“seeker filled” and “seeker focused”. He may try to implement the
Alpha Course too.

author relates:Article: Andy
Stanley Avoids Gay Issue in Last Sermon of Controversial Series
.
Therein Christian Post contributor Anugrah Kumar tells
us:
“Weeks after leaving
some Christians wondering
 about his stance on homosexuality,
Pastor Andy Stanley avoided explicitly addressing the issue on
Sunday during his weekend message.
In his final message of an 8-part sermon series on what it means
to be Christian, Stanley, who leads North Point Community Church
in Alpharetta, Ga., did not use the words “gay” or
“homosexuality,” but reminded the audience what he mentioned at
the beginning of the series – that Christians had a “branding
problem.”

In this article from Apprising.org is the exact quote that Pinder
used in his sermon of February 17, pasted below from the article

There the younger Stanley discussed his pragmatic Church Growth
Movement business model approach to church:

Andy recalled
when, in the early 1990s, the Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A
restaurants were facing stiff competition from the upstart
Boston Market. Chick-fil-A leaders were trying to figure out how
Chick-fil-A could get bigger, faster. Company founder Truett
Cathy pounded on the table and said, “I am sick and tired of
listening to you talk about how we can get bigger. If we get
better, our customers will demand we get bigger.”
Applying Cathy’s
prescription to church growth, Stanley said that getting better,
and ultimately bigger, requires evaluation and clarification. “I
think the local church should be the best-run organization in
your town,” he said, because the church is “the vehicle through
which the gospel is fed to and communicated to the whole world.”
Stanley cited the
Intel Corporation, whose ever-escalating battle with Japanese
companies in manufacturing computer chips ultimately caused the
company to diversify and stop making the component. Intel
leaders realized they needed to abandon their emotional
attachment to what they’d always done and if they didn’t, they’d
soon be out of the computer chip business.
Stanley lamented
that “we fall in love with the way we do ministry.”

F) February 24, 2013: Observations about Pinder’s recent sermon:
http://5ptsalt.com/2009/08/20/rick-warren-dont-go-to-another-bible-study-just-serve-others/

Pinder’s ideas and philosophy of ministry are coming straight from Rick
Warren’s “Purpose Driven”
ideas, which is a works mentality in the
context of a “social gospel” characterized by “attractionalism”
manifested by evaluating every conceivable feature of the church
building and church ministries and making everything new. This is
because the emergent types see church not for “churchgoers” but for the
“unchurched” as Pinder pointed out. THAT is not the scriptural model,
and a misleading comparison, because the church is for neither. It is
for “believers” as it has been for two thousand years.

G) February 25, 2013 e-mail sent to Pinder went unanswered: (minimally edited)
“Pastor Pinder,
I have listened to your sermon of Feb. 17, 2013 wherein you
reference Andy Stanley as a source of wisdom regarding church
growth.
Stanley has had an increasing record of a social gospel,
heresies, and redefining doctrines for the benefit of “seekers”
which the Bible says don’t exist. In that same sermon, you had the
audacity (Stanley style) to suggest that the church is not for
churchgoers, but rather the unchurched. That is pure emergent
methodology.

I beg to differ and tell you that the church is for neither but
rather primarily for believers as has been its history for
two thousand years. It is not for the unchurched, seeker, or
unregenerate to be made comfortable by the surroundings, the
ministries and/or the “gospel lacking” preaching which is tailored
not to offend them.

See: https://ratherexposethem.org/2013/03/pastor-alert-church-is-for-believers.html. (with link to John MacArthur).
This is typical of the Southern Baptist Convention, which you
are familiar with and associated with, if not affiliated with. Based
on your doctoral thesis, you know it is a cornucopia of liberal
worldliness, despite the so-called “Virginia conservatives”, which
are no conservatives at all. Since you were in Delaware last, we
have two local SBC churches, Ogletown Baptist and Hockessin Baptist,
both pastored by aggressive, young emergent types, who are into
constructing “campuses”. However, the SBC churches here in Delaware
as well as across the country are filled with, dominated by, and
influenced by Freemasons, which the SBC is allowing to continue with
a hands off attitude. Pastors Hill and Boulet stand ready to be your
models for how to manufacture one more emerging church which we
don’t need.
What you are attempting to introduce is nothing less than Rick
Warren’s “Purpose Driven” model based on Peter Drucker.
It is the
beginning of your stealth introduction of emerging church methods
into Faith Baptist church. I say “stealth”, because
Faith Baptist is a fertile field for your plans since they have a
long history of no warnings, inadequate warnings and minimal
education about modern heresies and movements. You are introducing
the “new paradigm” of doing church under the radar; except Faith
Baptist has NO radar, i.e., discernment. Otherwise, they would have
detected your machinations.
I also wrote to you prior to your starting as the new senior
pastor, and you did not have the grace or courtesy to even attempt
an answer.
I can only assume you stood to lose too much by answering
those questions which got right to the heart of what you are all
about.
Mr. Pinder, the ends don’t justify the means. You may think that
we can be thrown under the bus or discarded as irrelevant because we
haven’t gotten with the “program”.
The attached demonstrates what Stanley is all about and you have
clearly adopted his principles.
I suggest you get with the program, the one Christ defined, and
preach it to a Delaware that is nothing like the one you knew
decades ago. This one is baptized in liberal, secular humanist,
atheist, apostate, and cultic religions and philosophies. Example:
www.centerforjoyfulliving.net, which is a pagan, occultic, apostate
congregation within 2 miles of Faith Baptist. As such, Faith Baptist
is unprepared to meet the challenge, unless you make the church
“less offensive”, which having been deceived, you are ready to
implement.
If you care to discuss, you can write by email. If you have
nothing to say, I will assume you are my enemy and I will work to
defeat you.
Below is my blog post which among a whole assortment of issues
regarding the church today, is one of four posts about Andy Stanley.
Another blog, www.apprising.org, has at least six or more posts just
on problems with Stanley, if you care to investigate. This blog was
started because we have been “thrown under the bus” because we
haven’t “gotten with the program”.
Ignorance is bliss I guess. In the meantime, I will fight with
all the power of God to defeat this cancer in the church along with
the help of all the other Christian discernment ministries who have
been marginalized, damned, and accused of negativity.”
H) March 6, 2013: Observations about Pinder’s sermon:
Pastor Pinder referred to Chuck Swindoll in his sermon on worry and
anxiety on Sunday February 24, 2013. Trouble is, Swindoll, just like
Andy Stanley is not a model for Christian behavior, much less a reliable
teacher about being secure in Christ and His righteousness. This article
shows that Swindoll has been pointing people to Catholic mystics like
Henri Nouwen and Dallas Willard.
If Pinder could only find real
Christian models that haven’t been corrupted yet.

See:
http://apprising.org/2012/05/30/chuck-swindoll-points-us-to-roman-catholic-mystic-henri-nouwen-again/.

I) March 3, 2013: Pinder references Andrew Sullivan, an openly gay (with gay husband) Catholic reporter:
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Sullivan, and
YouTube videos of Sullivan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NeaUjLQAhs, and

  Quote from: http://moreintelligentlife.com/story/andrew-sullivan-thinking-out-loud
“Three years ago, at a gay club-night in New York City, he met Aaron Tone, a younger actor and artist, and “fell head-over-heels in love, in a way I never had before”. In 2007 they got married in Provincetown, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, at a small ceremony for family and friends. It was the place where, 15 years before, when gay marriage seemed an impossible dream, he had written “Virtually Normal”.
They live together now with their beagles in an apartment in central DC. To be their guest is to wander into a scene of pure gay domesticity, of the kind Sullivan was picturing to widespread bemusement not so long ago. It is a clear, uncluttered apartment, filled up only with vast quantities of coffee and dog toys. But in one corner—Sullivan’s “blog den”—piles of papers and books erupt chaotically, and a Mac is perma-charged and ready to blog.
He says his next battle is to “turn Christianity against the fundamentalists”. For him, “their certainty is the real blasphemy; their desire to control the lives of others the real heresy; their simple depiction of the Godhead proof positive they do not really understand him.” In the Gospels, the men who set themselves up as arbiters of moral correctness are often the furthest from God, he says, while Jesus urges people to see beyond fetishising rules and commandments to their own conscience.”
Sullivan with “husband”:
J) April 7, 2013: Pinder references Josh McDowell in a sermon:
K) March 3, 2013: Pinder references Max Lucado in a sermon:
Lucado profile: http://www.rapidnet.com/~jbeard/bdm/exposes/lucado/lucado.htm.
Update: August 11, 2013 AM Sermon based on Lucado’s book: In The Eye of The Storm”.
Also see Lucado’s and Pinder’s common belief in a “divine spark”:

Lucado is promoting his book “Cure for the Common Life” while sitting in a bar next to liquor bottles, in this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRtkZsjo8vs, as seen in this screen shot:

L) May 2, 2013: Pinder mentions Obama’s 2012 “The State of Our Unions-The President’s Marriage Agenda”:
M) May 2, 2013: Pinder references another pastor in Delaware which he claimed was defending traditional marriage, but the truth was that this pastor backed down, apologized to the gay community, and removed a sign outside the church when the going got rough. See our post:
N) April 28, 2013: Observations about Pinder’s sermon:
In reference to Jeff Pinder’s sermon of April 28 AM, the quote below is
appropriate, in light of the jab he made about Ephesians 5:11 being done
in the flesh in a carnal way.
Also, absolutely no reference was made in
his sermon about the Holy Spirit’s role in illumination, given that
Jesus was the light during the time he was present to the apostles and
believers on earth, but sent the Holy Spirit after His ascension to
continue the light of truth and to expand on it, making the light of
truth even more present and powerful to these same believers.

O) May 17, 2013: Pinder is thinking of inviting Scott Newton Smith to preach about “The Victorious Christian Life” (Watchman Nee & Keswick).

Evangelist Scott Newton Smith promotes the “Victorious Christian Life” (a/k/a “Exchanged Life”)
heresies of Wesleyan perfectionism, Watchman Nee’s “The Normal
Christian Life”, and Keswick perfectionism. Yet Pinder mentions him
early in this sermon and says he is thinking about inviting him to
Faith Baptist Church.

wherein Smith describes the so-called “Three Stages to Victory in
the Christian Life”.
He says there are
3 stages in getting to “victory” in the Christian life. He claims
too many Christians bail at the earlier stages and default to
nominal Christianity. Scott Newton Smith teaches practical
application of the “Exchanged Life.”

P) May 5, 2013: In Pinder’s sermon, he quotes from Robert Bellah’s book “Habits of the Heart: Individualism and Commitment in American
Life”,
which maligns individualism and supports
collectivist community (Communist) thought. A main character in this
book named Sheila is referred to by Pinder as an example of a
secular humanist unchurched/unsaved person. Wikipedia explains in
two writeups exactly who Bellah is and who Sheila is. Unfortunately,
Pinder being true to form, tries to use Bellah’s Sheilah as an
example, not being aware of Bellah’s politics, which are leftist and
liberal. Since Bellah is a Communist, he naturally would find
Sheila’s individualism contrary to his collectivist ideology, and
instead recalls colonial expressions of faith that were public and
unified for a time.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Bellah.
Quotes from above article:
1) While an
undergraduate at Harvard, he was a member of the Communist Party USA and chairman of the John Reed Club, “a recognized
student organization concerned with the study of Marxism.”
2) His political
views are often classified as communitarian. See Wikipedia again: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communitarian.
Sheila & Sheilaism from Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheilaism
describes the individualism of religious faith as detrimental to
community (Communist collectivism here).

Q) June 2, 2013: Pinder references Sanjay Gupta and his book “Cheating Death’, http://www.lassiwithlavina.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Indian-doctors-cheatingdeath.jpg, seen here:

He is an Indian-American neurosurgeon and his wife who were married in a Hindu wedding ceremony, in a sermon. R) February 24, 2013: Pinder advises in one of his sermons: “Don’t Go To Another Bible Study, Just Serve Others”. Pinder’s ideas and philosophy of ministry are coming straight from Rick
Warren’s “Purpose Driven” ideas, which is a works mentality in the
context of a “social gospel” characterized by “attractionalism”
manifested by evaluating every conceivable feature of the church
building and church ministries and making everything new. This is
because the emergent types see church not for “churchgoers” but for the
“unchurched” as Pinder pointed out. THAT is not the scriptural model,
and a misleading comparison, because the church is for neither. It is
for “believers” as it has been for two thousand years. See: http://5ptsalt.com/2009/08/20/rick-warren-dont-go-to-another-bible-study-just-serve-others/.

S) Pinder mentioned recently showed the Louie Giglio’s movie “Indescribable” for juveniles young and old, devoid of any mention of the reason for the cross, namely sin requiring acknowledgement and repentance, and which suggests:
“Is this the ‘Sign of the Son of Man’ that would precede the Second Coming of Jesus Christ? Or is it the fingerprint of God shining out in the center of the heavens for all creation to see?”, based on the amazing discovery made by the Hubble Telescope in deepest space.
Giglio equates this celestial image with the laminin molecule as in the third video below. It is Giglio’s introduction to mysticism for the gullible. See connection with Tony Campolo below regarding their promotion of contemplative mysticism here:

T) May 18, 2013: Pinder’s mention and promotion of Randy Alcorn in sermon:
From Lighthouse Trails Research:

“RANDY ALCORN: On Alcorn’s website, under My Favorite Non-Fiction Books,
he includes Richard Foster’s Celebration of
Discipline
. Foster is the leading evangelical-type
pioneer of contemplative spirituality (also known as the
spiritual formation movement) and is considered to be a key
player in the emerging church movement. 1 Alcorn has been a
trusted name in Christian fiction.

Lighthouse Trails contacted Alcorn’s ministry and spoke with
his assistant, who told us she spoke on Alcorn’s behalf when
she said they saw nothing wrong with contemplative practices.
She did agree to accept a copy of A Time of Departing and Faith Undone , which we have
now sent, but said Randy Alcorn would likely not have time to
read it.

IMPORTANT
NOTE: On January 12, 2009, Randy Alcorn’s
assistant contacted Lighthouse Trails and said that Randy has
agreed to remove the recommendation to Foster. He did ask,
however, that the following message be relayed to us: “[Randy]
doesn’t believe in painting a broad brush over certain authors
when we don’t agree with them in every area. For example, he
has read three of Dallas Willard’s books, and while
he doesn’t agree with him in certain areas, for the most part
he found them to be very Christ-centered and biblical. So he
strongly disagrees with the negative references to Willard in
the books you sent.”  Alcorn’s assistant said she “looked
through” the books we sent, but did not say whether Alcorn saw
them or not. We hope he will find time to read A Time of Departing some day. P.S. A second contact from
Randy Alcorn’s assistant to Lighthouse Trails on January 12th
was made. We have been asked to post the following statement
by Randy Alcorn:

“I do not give an overall endorsement for
contemplative practices. There are many false and dangerous
contemplative practices so it all depends on the context and
what one is contemplating on. I do believe in meditating on
Scripture and on our Lord, as this is explicitly commanded
and commended.” — Randy Alcorn,
1/12/09

OUR
COMMENT:
For anyone who has any doubts as
to whether Dallas Willard embraces mystical spirituality,
please note that he wrote the foreword to Ruth Haley Barton’s book, Invitation to
Silence and Solitude
, in which Barton
encourages eastern-style (repeating a word or phrase)
meditation. Barton was trained at the interspiritual,
panentheistic Shalem Institute in Washington DC, and today
trains pastors and leaders in contemplative spirituality at
her Transformation Center. As for Dallas Willard, he has shown
strong and clear affinity with those who teach eastern-style
meditation.

2ND COMMENT: We appreciate Randy
Alcorn’s concern about “dangerous contemplative practices.”
However, it is very typical for people to say that
contemplative practices can be OK “depend[ing] on the
context” and “what one is contemplating on.”  Lighthouse
Trails believes that even if the intent is to focus on Jesus
and the Bible, there is never a time when the
repeating of a word or phrase is safe … or biblical.”

FULLER SEMINARY’S GAY CAMPUS CLUB-“ONE TABLE”~TONY JONES’ GAY AFFIRMING SUPPORT

The already apostate Fuller Theological Seminary, www.fuller.edu, one of the world’s largest multi-denominational seminaries, apparently is the first major evangelical seminary to sanction an LGBT student club.

Fuller Seminary has given approval to a homosexual campus club called “One Table”, http://onetablefuller.com/, as reported by The New American: http://thenewamerican.com/culture/faith-and-morals/item/16012-evangelical-fuller-seminary-says-yes-to-homosexual-campus-club.
Also reported by AZ Central: http://www.azcentral.com/news/free/20130713fuller-theological-seminary-christian-schools-gays-pasadena.html, from an Associated Press article.
The New American excerpt:
“Fuller’s new president, Mark Labberton, to issue a statement in an attempt to clarify the school’s somewhat muddied position on homosexuality. See: http://www.fuller.edu/printable.aspx?id=2147493985, titled: Mark Labberton’s Response to Recent AP Article”. Labberton then mouthed One Table’s own slogan, that the homosexual group exists to provide “a safe place to discuss issues related to sexuality and gender — issues that are vitally important, personal, and fraught with debate that is frequently divisive and contentious, not least in an evangelical context.” Ignoring that One Table was formed by a confirmed homosexual who is convinced he can embrace the Christian faith without rejecting what the Bible clearly says is sin, Labberton nonetheless insisted that the gay club “is not an advocacy group to alter seminary policy nor to direct any efforts in that direction.”

Mark Labberton Response in full as per above link:

CONDITIONAL “FREE” PURGATORY INDULGENCE FOR FOLLOWERS OF POPE’S TWEETS, ETC.

THE DIGITAL AGE OF DISPENSING PAPERLESS INDULGENCES FOR THE PUNISHMENT DUE FOR SIN COMES TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. THE ESSENCE OF CUTTING EDGE HERESY COUPLED WITH SAVING THE TREES, BUT STILL A MATTER OF WORKS SALVATION THAT DENIES THE SUFFICIENCY OF CHRIST ALONE:
INDULGENCE FOR PAYMENT SIGNED BY JOHANN TETZEL 1517

“But a senior Vatican official warned web-surfing Catholics that indulgences still required a dose of old-fashioned faith, and that paradise was not just a few mouse clicks away.
‘You can’t obtain indulgences like getting a coffee from a vending machine,’ Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli, head of the pontifical council for social communication, told the Italian daily Corriere della Sera.
Indulgences these days are granted to those who carry out certain tasks – such as climbing the Sacred Steps, in Rome (reportedly brought from Pontius Pilate’s house after Jesus scaled them before his crucifixion), a feat that earns believers seven years off purgatory.
But attendance at events such as the Catholic World Youth Day, in Rio de Janeiro, a week-long event starting on 22 July, can also win an indulgence.
Mindful of the faithful who cannot afford to fly to Brazil, the Vatican’s sacred apostolic penitentiary, a court which handles the forgiveness of sins, has also extended the privilege to those following the “rites and pious exercises” of the event on television, radio and through social media.

‘That includes following Twitter,’ said a source at the penitentiary, referring to Pope Francis’ Twitter account, which has gathered seven million followers. ‘But you must be following the events live. It is not as if you can get an indulgence by chatting on the internet.’
In its decree, the penitentiary said that getting an indulgence would hinge on the beneficiary having previously confessed and being ‘truly penitent and contrite’.”

Erin Benziger of Do Not Be Surprised has done an excellent report about the damnable heresy of purgatory in connection with Pope Francis offering purgatorial indulgences for following his Twitter tweets, and also for Catholics following the live broadcasts of his activities in Brazil, namely his “rites and pious exercises” while he is there for the Catholic World Youth Day (and Week).

Joseph Farah, WND Editor in Chief

Gina Miller

We now have a commentary from Gina Miller of Renew America, Iceland is a homosexual role model for America?”
http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/miller/130716, exposing a writer from World Net Daily named Ellen Ratner who published an article titled
“Let’s Move Beyond Gay Bashing”,
http://www.wnd.com/2013/07/lets-move-beyond-gay-bashing/, the latter being about the alleged benefits of tolerance for the gay lifestyle in Iceland as an example to the rest of the world and America.

Ellen Ratner

Excerpted quote from Ratner’s article:
“Iceland is a pretty progressive country by anyone’s evaluation. Some readers will write me emails and say it is socialist. Not quite. It is very capitalist, but it does have education and health insurance for all. Surprisingly, there is no separation of church and state. There is freedom of religion, but the official church is the “Evangelical Lutheran Church,” and the government supports it. Gay and lesbians can and do get married there.”

Excerpted quotes from Miller’s article:
“She doesn’t actually cite instances of anyone “bashing” homosexuals, so I’m left to guess that by “bashing,” she simply means vocal or active opposition to the militant homosexual movement’s agenda. That agenda includes the destruction of the meaning of marriage and the trampling of the freedom of speech, association and religion of Christians and any others who oppose it.”
“No, we are not doing homosexuals any favors by moving to embrace their sinful, self-destructive behavior. Encouraging homosexuals in their sin does them no good, and a nation that moves to force the mainstream acceptance of such deviancy will pay a terrible price for it. We can already see the awful results of the imposition of same-sex “marriage” on Massachusetts.”

Therefore, let us prove that Ratner is “progressively” delirious:
See: Mass Resistance for their timeline and bullet point list of the progression of homosexual depravity and its effects on Massachusetts, etc.:

Brian Camenker

What same-sex “marriage” has done to Massachusetts
It’s far worse than most people realize
by Brian Camenker
October 2008 Updated June 2012
Anyone who thinks that same-sex “marriage” is a benign eccentricity which won’t affect
the average person should consider what it has done to Massachusetts since 2004.
It’s become a hammer to force the acceptance and normalization of homosexuality on
everyone. The slippery slope is real. New radical demands never cease. What has
happened in the last several years is truly frightening.
On November 18, 2003, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court announced its
Goodridge opinion, declaring that it was unconstitutional not to allow same-sex “marriage.”
Six months later, despite public outrage, homosexual “weddings” began to take place.
And that was just the beginning . . .
The public schools
The homosexual “marriage” onslaught in public schools across the state started soon after
the November 2003 court ruling.
 At my own children’s high school there was a school-wide assembly to celebrate
same-sex “marriage” in early December 2003. It featured an array of speakers,
including teachers at the school who announced that they would be “marrying” their
same-sex partners and starting families, either through adoption or artificial
insemination. Literature on same-sex marriage – how it is now a normal part of society –
was handed out to the students.
 Within months it was brought into the middle schools. In September 2004, an 8th grade
teacher in Brookline, Mass., told National Public Radio that the marriage ruling
had opened up the door for teaching homosexuality. “In my mind, I know that, ‘OK, this
is legal now.’ If somebody wants to challenge me, I’ll say, ‘Give me a break. It’s legal
now,’” she told NPR. She added that she now discusses gay sex with her students as
explicitly as she desires. For example, she said she tells the kids that lesbians can have
vaginal intercourse using sex toys.
 By the following year it was in elementary school curricula – with hostility toward
parents who disagreed. Kindergartners in Lexington, Mass. were given copies of a
picture book, Who’s in a Family?, telling them that same-sex couples are just another
kind of family, just like their own parents. When David Parker – parent of a kindergartner
– calmly refused to leave a school meeting unless officials agreed to notify him when
discussing homosexuality or transgenderism with his son, the school had him arrested
and jailed overnight.
 The next year, second graders at the same school were read a book, King and
King, about two men who fall in love and marry each other, ending with a picture of
them kissing. When parents Robb and Robin Wirthlin complained, they were told that the
school had no obligation to notify them or allow them to opt their child out.
 In 2007 a federal judge ruled that because of “gay marriage” in Massachusetts,
parents have no rights regarding the teaching of homosexual relationships in schools.
The previous year the Parkers and Wirthlins had filed a federal civil rights lawsuit
to force the schools to notify parents and allow them to opt out their elementary school
children when homosexual-related subjects were taught. The federal judge dismissed the
case. The appeals judges later upheld the first judge’s ruling that because same-sex
marriage is legal in Massachusetts, the school actually had a duty to normalize homosexual relationships to children; and schools have no obligation to notify parents or let them opt
out their children. Acceptance of homosexuality had become a matter of good citizenship!
Think about that: Because same-sex marriage is “legal,” federal judges have ruled that the
schools now have a duty to portray homosexual relationships as normal to children, despite
what parents think or believe! The judges also allowed the school to overrule the
Massachusetts parental notification law on this issue, with the claim that homosexuality or
same-sex marriages are not“human sexuality issues” (to which the law refers).
 School libraries have also radically changed. School libraries across the state, from
elementary school to high school, now have expanding shelves of books to normalize
homosexual behavior and “lifestyle” in the minds of kids, some of them quite explicit and
even pornographic. Parents’ complaints are ignored or met with hostility.
 A large, slick hardcover book celebrating Massachusetts homosexual marriages
began to appearin many school libraries across the state. Titled Courting Equality,
it was supplied to schools by a major homosexual activist organization. Its apparent
purpose was to teach kids that “gay marriage” was a great civil rights victory.
 It has become commonplace in Massachusetts schools for teachers to display
photos of their same-sex “spouses” and occasionally bring their “spouses” to
school functions. At one point, both high schools in my own town had principals who
were “married” to their same-sex partners who came to school and were introduced to
the students.
 “Gay days” in schools are considered necessary to fight “intolerance” against same
sex relationships. Hundreds of high schools and even middle schools across the state
now hold “gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender days.” In my own town, a school
committee member announced that combating “homophobia” was now a top priority.
The schools not only “celebrate” homosexual marriage, but have moved beyond to
promote other behaviors such as cross-dressing and transsexuality.
 As a result, many more children in Massachusetts appear to be self-identifying as
“gay.” According to the Massachusetts Youth Risk Behavior Survey, given to students
in high schools across the state, between 2005 and 2009 both the percentage of kids
“identifying as gay” and who had same-sex contact rose by approximately 50%.
Although this bi-annual survey is unscientific and largely unreliable, it still shows a
disturbing trend among those students who chose to answer the estions in this way.
(At a minimum, it implies that these answers are being encouraged.)
 Once homosexuality is normalized, all boundaries begin to come down. The
schools have already moved on to normalizing transgenderism (including cross-dressing
and sex changes). The state-funded Commission on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and
Transgender Youth, which goes into schools with homosexual and transgender
programs and activities for children, includes prominent activists who are transsexuals.
 In 2006 a cross-dressing man undergoing a sex-change operation was brought
into a third-grade class in Newton to teach the children that there are now “different
kinds of families.” School officials told a mother that her complaints to the principal were
considered “inappropriate behavior”! She ended up removing her child from the school.
Public health
 The Commissioner of the Mass. Dept. of Public Health, who is “married” to
another man, told a crowd of kids at the state-sponsored Youth Pride event in 2007 that
it’s “wonderful being gay” and he wants to make sure there’s enough HIV testing
available for all of them.
 The STD test required to obtain a marriage license was eliminated five months after
same-sex “marriages” began in Massachusetts, by a bill quietly signed by Gov. Mitt
Romney. This was despite an increase in syphilis cases and other STDs in homosexual
men in Massachusetts at the time (according to the Mass. Dept. of Public Health).
 In recent years state funding for HIV/AIDS programs has gone up considerably in
Massachusetts, along with the proportion of homosexual-related cases. According
to the Massachusetts Dept. of Public Health, even though the total number of new
HIV/AIDS diagnoses has declined, the proportion caused by male homosexual behavior
rose by over 30% from 2000-2009. Thus, for the last several years the state has
budgeted $30-$35 million per year for these programs. This dwarfs spending on any
other viral disease that we are aware of.
 A hideously obscene booklet on “gay” practices created by health officials was
given out in a high school. Citing “the right to marry” as one of the “important
challenges” in a place where “it’s a great time to be gay,” the Mass. Dept. of Public
Health helped the AIDS Action Committee produce The Little Black Book: Queer in the
21st Century. It was given to teens at Brookline High School on April 30, 2005. Among
other things, it gives “tips” to boys on how to perform oral sex on other males,
masturbate other males, and how to “safely” have someone urinate on you for sexual
pleasure. It even included a directory of bars in Boston where young men meet for
anonymous sex.
Hospitals
 Because of the purported necessity to cater to “LGBT health” issues, nearly every
major Boston hospital has become an active supporter of the radical homosexual
movement. This includes marching in the “Gay Pride” parades, holding homosexual
events, and putting on numerous “gay health”-related seminars. This is one of the most
disturbing things that’s happened since “gay marriage” became “legal.”
 A major Boston hospital threatened to fire a physician when he objected to its
promotion of homosexual behavior. In 2011 a prominent physician at Beth Israel
Deaconess Medical Center in Boston – a large Harvard-affiliated hospital – objected to
the hospital being involved with “Gay Pride” activities. He also pointed out to his
superiors the medical health risks of homosexuality, and said that he and others at the
hospital considered homosexual acts to be unnatural and immoral. The hospital then
threatened to fire him, telling him that same-sex marriage is “legal” and that his
comments constituted “harassment and discrimination.” After a “hearing” he was allowed
to keep his job, but was told to apologize and to keep his opinions on these matters to
himself.
 In 2012 the Boston Medical Center purchased a prominent full-color ad (full page,
inside cover) in the Boston Gay Pride guide book. The content? The entire ad
promoted the hospital’s STD and AIDS clinics for the “pride” participants – particularly its
screening services for gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, hepatitis, and HIV.
Domestic violence
 Every year more state money goes to deal with the high incidence of homosexual
domestic violence. Since “gay marriage” began, Massachusetts has one of the highest
proportions of homosexuals living as couples in the country. Given the extremely
dysfunctional nature of homosexual relationships, the Massachusetts Legislature has felt
the need to spend more and more money to deal with that problem. “Gay domestic
violence programs” have also become a major lobbying push in the State House by the
homosexual group MassEquality. This year it comprises a considerable portion of a $5.5
million state budget item (according to MassEquality). This is up from $100,000
budgeted in 2007.
 “Gay domestic partner violence” literature (funded by the state) is now distributed
at virtually every public homosexual event – including to children at “Youth Pride”
events, GLSEN conferences, “gay straight alliance” high school clubs – and especially at
the various events and parades during “Gay Pride” week.
 It has become such a problem that a public candlelight vigil in downtown Boston
is held every year by a coalition of Massachusetts homosexual groups “to remember
victims of recent LGBT intimate partner violence, and to raise awareness of this
important community issue.”
Business and employment
 All insurance in Massachusetts must now recognize same-sex “married” couples in
their coverage. This includes auto insurance, health insurance, life insurance, etc.
 Businesses must recognize same-sex “married” couples in all their benefits,
activities, etc., regarding both employees and customers.
 People can now get fired from their jobs for expressing religious objections to
same-sex “marriage.” In 2009, a deputy manager at a Brookstone store in Boston was
fired from his job for mentioning his belief to another manager who had kept bringing up
the subject with him that day. Brookstone’s letter of termination (quoted on local TV
news) said his comment was “inappropriate” because “in the State of Massachusetts,
same-sex marriage is legal.”
 The wedding industry is required to serve the homosexual community if
requested. Wedding photographers, halls, caterers, etc., must accept same-sex
marriage events or be held liable for discrimination.
 Businesses are often “tested” for tolerance by homosexual activists. Groups of
homosexual activists go into restaurants or bars and publicly kiss and fondle each other
to test whether the establishment demonstrates sufficient “equality” — now that
homosexual marriage is “legal.” Then they report “tolerance violators” to authorities, and
businesses can be fined and punished. In fact, more and more overt displays of
homosexual affection are seen in public places across the state to reinforce “marriage equality.”
Legal profession and judicial system
 The Massachusetts Bar Exam now tests lawyers on their knowledge of same-sex
marriage “law.” In 2007, a Boston man failed the Massachusetts bar exam because he
refused to answer a question about homosexual marriage.
 In many firms, lawyers in Massachusetts practicing family law must now attend
seminars on homosexual “marriage.” Issues regarding homosexual “families” are now
firmly entrenched in the Massachusetts legal system. In addition, there are now several
homosexual judges overseeing the Massachusetts family courts.
 In 2011 the Governor appointed Barbara Lenk, a “married” lesbian activist, to be a
state Supreme Court Justice. She has said that the interpretation of law “evolves and develops” because “minority groups [e.g., homosexuals] see certain things differently
based on their own experiences.”
Adoption and birth certificates
 In the year after the “gay marriage” ruling, the state’s adoption and foster care
workers went through a massive indoctrination on “LGBT youth awareness.” This
included employees and managers at the Mass. Dept. of Social Services. These
sessions were run by the radical National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (which once
awarded a “Leather Leadership Award” to the owner of a pornographic video company).
The emphasis was that those working with children must be trained that homosexuality
(and transgenderism) are normal. At one session, the trainer announced that the new
motto is, “To tolerate is an assault; you have to accept” this behavior.
 Homosexual “married” couples can now demand to be allowed to adopt children –
through any agency. In 2006 Catholic Charities decided to abandon handling adoptions
rather submit to regulations requiring them to allow homosexuals to adopt the children in
their care.
 Adoption agencies have said that 40% of their adoptions are to homosexual
couples. Anecdotal reports also indicate that many adoption agencies now favor
homosexuals over normal couples.
 In 2006 the Massachusetts Department of Social Services (DSS) honored two men
“married” to each other as their “Parents of the Year.” The men had adopted a baby
through DSS (against the wishes of the baby’s birth parents). According to news reports,
the day after that adoption was final, DSS approached the men about adopting a second
child.
 The state-funded Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) has been
pushing “GLBT” family formation and holds “adoption parties” where homosexual
couples have been encouraged to attend (along with others) and see “available” children
in person. MARE places prominent ads in GLBT publications.
 Birth certificates in Massachusetts have been changed from “mother” and
“father” to “mother/parent” and “father/parent.” Two men or two women can now be
listed as the “parents” on birth certificates! Homosexuals who adopt can revise
children’s’ existing birth certificates.
 A court ruled in 2012 that if a child is “born of a same-sex marriage,” there is no
need for adoption by a non-biological parent. Thus, they would both be the listed as
the “parents” on the child’s birth certificate, without any formal proceedings necessary.
(The other biological parent is not noted on the official birth certificate.)

Government mandates
 Marriage licenses and certificates in Massachusetts now have “Party A” and
“Party B” instead of “husband” and “wife.” Imagine having a marriage license like
that.
 In 2004, Governor Mitt Romney ordered Justices of the Peace to perform
homosexual marriages when requested or be fired. Several Justices of the Peace
immediately decided to resign. That order still stands. Also Town Clerks were forced by
the Governor’s office to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
 In 2008 Massachusetts changed the state Medicare laws to include homosexual
“married” couples in the coverage.
The public square
 Since gay “marriage” began, public “Gay Pride” events have become more
prominent in the public square. There are more politicians and corporations
participating, and even police organizations take part. And the envelope gets pushed
further and further. For example: the annual profane “Dyke March” through downtown
Boston, and the 2008 “transgender” parade in Northampton that included bare-chested
women who have had their breasts surgically removed (so they could “become” men).
Governor Patrick even marched with his 17-year-old “out lesbian” daughter in the 2008
Boston Pride event, right behind a sadomasochist “leather” group brandishing a black and
blue flag, lashes and chains!
Churches being harassed
Churches and religious people have been demonized, harassed and threatened – with no
punishment for the perpetrators. Since the “gay marriage” ruling, those who publicly
disagree with “gay marriage” or the normalcy of homosexuality – or hold events promoting
traditional beliefs – are targets of militant retribution by homosexual activists. Police and
public officials have shown no interest in stopping this. We are not aware of a single
homosexual activist arrested (or charged with any “hate crime”) for disrupting a religious
event or threatening and harassing people at a church. For example:
 In 2012 someone threatened to burn down a Catholic Church in Acushnet which
posted the words “Two men are friends, not spouses” on its outdoor sign. The
church immediately received a flood of profane phone calls. At least one person
threatened to burn down the church. An activist nailed a sign to church’s fence saying,
“Spread love not hate.” Activists staged a protest outside of the Sunday Mass to
intimidate parishioners with a sign saying, “It is legal for two men or women to be
spouses.” Neither the police nor the District Attorney pursued the threats as a hate crime
or other offense.
 In 2010 a Catholic elementary school balked at letting a lesbian couple enroll their
son. As a result, the school was excoriated in the media and even by the local liberal
state representative as “discriminatory.” The privately-run Catholic Schools Foundation
then threatened to withhold funding to the school unless it relented. The Archdiocese
eventually backed down and the school reversed its policy.
 In 2009 angry homosexual activists terrorized the Park Street Church in Boston
while it was holding an ex-gay religious training session inside. They demonstrated next
to the doors and windows with signs, screaming homosexual slogans. One of them held
a bullhorn against the window outside the meeting, bellowing at the participants inside.
Police did nothing to stop them, even though they were standing inside the historic
cemetery adjacent to the church.
 In 2006 dozens of screaming homosexual activists drowned out the speakers at
an outdoor pro-marriage rally in Worcester organized by Catholic Vote, yelling “Bigots”
and disgusting chants. Police did not stop them, even though the rally had a permit.
When one of the rioters rushed the stage and started shouting, a rally organizer tried to
lead her to the side. She subsequently sued that organizer for assault! He went through
a four-day trial and was acquitted by a jury. But no charges were filed against any of the rioters.
 In 2006 a group of homosexual activists with signs taunted and screamed at
people entering and leaving the Tremont Temple Baptist Church in downtown
Boston, which was holding a nationally televised pro-marriage event inside.
 In 2005 hundreds of homosexual activists terrorized the Tremont Temple Baptist
Church with makeshift coffins, screaming obscenities through loudspeakers as – 7 –
the national pro-family group Focus on the Family held a religious conference inside.
The crowd was so threatening that attendees could not leave the church for the lunch
break. The Boston riot police stood in front of the church doors, but did nothing to
disperse the protesters who were also completely blocking the street.
The media
 The Boston media regularly features articles and news stories using homosexual
“married” couples where regular married couples would normally be used. It’s “equal,”
they insist, so there must be no difference in how marriage is portrayed. Also, the
newspaper advice columns now deal with homosexual “marriage” issues – and how to
properly accept it.
 A number of news reporters and TV anchors are “out” homosexuals (at least one
openly “married”) who march in the “Gay Pride” parades and publicly participate in other
homosexual events.
Politics
 A climate of fear has kept politicians at all levels from disagreeing with or
criticizing same-sex marriage since it became “legal.” Public officials are afraid of
being accused of wanting to “take away rights.” Those who support traditional marriage
rarely discuss it publicly. And this fear has expanded to suppress any meaningful debate
on all homosexual related issues. Additionally, it has brought a feeling of intimidation
among pro-family people across the state.
 The Massachusetts Republican establishment has become arguably the most
“pro-gay marriage” GOP in America. The state GOP House and Senate leaders now
both publicly support “gay marriage,” as did the recent Mass. GOP candidates for
Governor and Lt. Governor. GOP candidates for office are told not even to discuss it.
 In April 2009, the Chairman of the Mass. Republican Party told a homosexual
newspaper that the GOP would no longer oppose “gay marriage.” Then Chairman
Jennifer Nassour, interviewed on the front page of Bay Windows, assured the gay
community that the state GOP would “steer clear of social” issues such as “opposition to
same-sex marriage and abortion.” The newly elected chairman, Bob Maginn, does not
talk about the issue.
 Every Massachusetts state-wide elected official and member of Congress (but
one) now publicly supports “gay marriage.” The one (apparent) holdout, Republican
US Senator Scott Brown, strenuously avoids the issue, saying that it’s “settled law” and not
worth fighting over.
Rule of law
 Same-sex “marriage” came to Massachusetts through a radical court’s narrow
ruling. Because of that, there is an often depressing sense of helplessness that
pervades this issue. The marriage statute was never changed, and it has been
convincingly argued that the whole process was in violation of the state constitution. The
Governor simply went along. And the Legislature acted to block popular votes on two
separate constitutional amendments protecting marriage, after sufficient signatures had
been gathered for each. The rule of law seems further lost with every new outrage
imposed on the people.
 Even the Massachusetts Law Library (online) shows no law legalizing same-sex
marriage, only a court opinion. It is a dangerous precedent to allow such sweeping
judicial activism to stand as law, enabling everything that has followed from it. It should
serve as a warning to states across the country.
In conclusion
Same-sex “marriage” hangs over society, hammering citizens with the force of law. Once it gets
a foothold, society becomes more oppressive. Unfortunately, it was imposed on the people of
Massachusetts through a combination of radical, arrogant judges and pitifully cowardly
politicians. The homosexual movement has used that combination to its continued advantage
around the country.
It’s pretty clear that this radical movement is obsessed with marriage not because large
numbers of homosexuals actually want to marry each other. A small percentage actually
“marry.” (In fact, over the last several months, the Sunday Boston Globe’s marriage section
hasn’t had any photos of homosexual marriages; at first it was full of them.) Research shows
that homosexuals’ relationships are fundamentally dysfunctional on many levels, and real
“marriage” as we know it isn’t something they can achieve, or even truly desire.
The push for “gay marriage” is really is about putting the legal stamp of approval on
homosexuality and forcing its acceptance on (otherwise unwilling) citizens and our social, political,
and commercial institutions.
To the rest of America: You’ve been forewarned.

LIGHTHOUSE TRAILS ADDS ANOTHER “CHRISTIAN COLLEGE” TO ITS CONTEMPLATIVE SPIRITUAL FORMATION LIST & UPDATES ANOTHER

Lighthouse Trails Research maintains a list of Christian colleges and universities that are teaching contemplative prayer, mysticism and practices including spiritual formation disciplines. The relationships among Christian educational institutions, emerging contemplative & spiritual formation proponents, and psychoheretics examined:

See: http://www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com/Colleges.htm.

Now, Cincinnati Christian University & Seminary has been added to the above list, as described in the article from Lighthouse below:

“Lighthouse Trails has now added Cincinnati Christian University (and Cincinnati Christian Seminary) in Ohio to its list of Christian colleges that are promoting contemplative spirituality and Spiritual Formation. The school began in 1924 and was founded on the “Restoration Movement.” Wikipedia has an interesting description of the history of that movement here. On a website called The Christian Restoration Association, it explains that leaders in the movement wanted to just call themselves Christians and stay away from any denominational boundaries. The site states: “The uniqueness of this group lies in its desire to restore the church of the New Testament, not in its form of dress, mode of transportation, or in the language spoken or read, but in its doctrines, ordinances, and faith.” Unfortunately, Cincinnati Christian University (birthed from that movement) has attached itself to the contemplative prayer movement. Perhaps leaders at CCU do not realize that contemplative spirituality does not line up with the “doctrines, ordinances, and faith” of the Bible. The CRA website lists seven other higher learning schools associated with their group. Of those, one of them, Hope International University in Fullerton, CA, is also on our Contemplative Colleges list.
As with all of the other schools on the Lighthouse Trails Contemplative Colleges list, Cincinnati Christian University has incorporated Spiritual Formation into their school and seminary. For instance, in their PMN 502 03 – SPIRITUAL FORMATION course (taught by Professor Rick Lowry), the following textbooks are being used:
Richard FosterCelebration of Discipline
Gary ThomasSacred Pathways
Henri NouwenThe Way of the Heart
Henri Nouwen, In the Name of Jesus
Calvin Miller, The Table of Inwardness
Dallas WillardThe Spirit of the Disciplines
John OrtbergThe Life You’ve Always Wanted
Calvin MillerInto the Depths of God

Professor Rick Lowry’s “course objectives” are stated in his syllabus as:
1.       Become acquainted with the broad field of ancient and contemporary literature in the area of spiritual formation.
2.       Be exposed to the classic spiritual disciplines and encouraged to initiate the process of a personal practice of these disciplines in their daily walk with Christ.
3.       Be equipped to effectively teach the information on the spiritual disciplines to those in their sphere of influence.
4.       Be made aware of the reality of spiritual warfare in the context of spiritual formation.

The first three objectives are evidence that the class is going to glean spiritual “insights” from the contemplative authors it will be turning to. Point 4 is quite interesting when you think about Richard Foster’s warning to those practicing contemplative prayer that they need to pray prayers of protection first. We certainly couldn’t agree more with Professor Lowry that with contemplative prayer comes spiritual warfare (but we see it in a much different light that he most likely does). We believe that the realms entered during contemplative meditation are occultic and are dangerous.
In PMN 502 Spiritual Formation at CCU, Professor Mark Miller teaches it. Miller is using textbooks by Ruth Haley Barton and Dallas Willard and says he expects students to do the following: “During the course a variety of different traditions for formation will be introduced; the student will be expected to interact respectfully with these traditions to the point of appropriate application to their own spiritual formation” (emphasis added). If students are expected to interact with Ruth Haley Barton’s “tradition,” they will actually be interacting with the tradition of panentheistic contemplative mystics such as Thomas Keating, whom Barton admits had a lot to do with her own spirituality (see our report on Barton).
(See: http://www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com/blog/?p=11607).

(See our previous posts about Ruth Haley Barton:

https://ratherexposethem.org/2013/05/christian-missionary-alliance-invited.html.)
In PMN 502(02) – SPIRITUAL FORMATION (Professor David Roadcup), the near exact same books and objectives are listed as in Professor Lowry’s class. Also see PMN 502 Spiritual Formation (2011) taught by Professor Bill Weber who used many of the same textbooks as these other professors.
These  instances tell us that contemplative is not isolated to just one professor at CCU but is  integrated into the school system.
To back up that assumption, here are a few more examples of where we found contemplative “signs.” 1) On this page for general career information, Richard Foster is quoted (here). In a 2008 e-newsletter, Ruth Haley Barton is given as a resource on page 4 (though a disclaimer – “not necessarily completely endorsed by the CCA” (Center for Church Advancement – part of CCU) is given. Also in this newsletter, it announced that Calvin Miller (a strong contemplative advocate) was scheduled to be a speaker at their Preaching Summit that year. This tells us that contemplative spirituality has been coming into CCU for quite a few years. We must make note of something else here to show how subtle spiritual deception is. In this newsletter from 2008, on page 2, point #6, a book named Reveal: Where are you? is referenced. That book came out of Willow Creek a few years ago when Bill Hybels, Senior Pastor at Willow Creek came out with a very highly publicized statement saying that Willow Creek was repenting from many of the seeker friendly methods they had used. But when Lighthouse Trails researchers looked further into this, we realized that in actuality, Willow Creek was becoming more contemplative and more emerging than before. What appeared to be repentance (meaning going toward the Lord and biblical truth) was the opposite. We wrote about this situation in our article, “No Repentance from Willow Creek – Only a Mystical Paradigm Shift.”
There are other CCU courses where contemplative/emerging authors are being used as well. For instance, in 2011 in the PIC 516 Urban Ministry course, Professor Bill Weber used a textbook titled Social Justice Handbook (with a who’s who of the emerging social justice movement: McLaren, Jim Wallis, Tony Campolo, Shane, Claiborne, etc.). In 2012, in PMN 625 Creativity in Preaching & Teaching by Professor Gary Johnson, books by Calvin Miller and Andy Stanley are used.  In PMN 652 Seminar in Leadership,  instructors are using a textbook, Replenish, by contemplatives Lance Witt and John Ortberg. Lance Witt (a Saddleback pastor) once told Lighthouse Trails that he taught a mantra-like prayer practice to those attending his studies.
One last example here showing the direction that Cincinnati Christian University is going. At a CCU event, Youth Ministry Summit 2013, the key note speaker was Chap Clark, part of an organization called Sticky Faith (from Fuller University). The Sticky Faith website is packed with contemplative resources as you can see here, including a webcast with contemplative pioneer Mark Yaconelliwho told Lighthouse Trails once that he does teach a mantra-style prayer to youth, and his book Contemplative Youth Ministry would back that up (see our research on Yaconelli and his book). Chap Clark was himself part of Youth Specialties, a leading voice in the emerging church movement for many years and is senior editor of Youth Worker Journal (a publication that has historically promoted contemplative spirituality and the emerging church). On the Youth Worker website, you can find everything from book  recommendations for people like atonement rejector Alan Jones and goddess worshipper Sue Monk Kidd to articles encouragingpracticing lectio divina and so forth.
It is clear, as we have shown, that Cincinnati Christian University (and Seminary) is drawn to authors and teachers who promote a contemplative mystical spirituality. As we mentioned in our new Booklet Tract, ”An Epidemic of Apostasy – How Christian Seminaries Must Incorporate “Spiritual Formation” to Become Accredited,”  CCU is accredited through Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE), which requires member schools to incorporate Spiritual Formation into their school program. Apparently, CCU has no problem complying.”

“July 2013 Update on Colorado Christian University: On July 10th, our office received a call from a concerned parent whose child attends Colorado Christian University. She saw that most of the links on our 2009 Letter to the Editor (see below) regarding CCCU were no longer working. We have been able to fix a few of those, and we are providing an update about the school. The parent’s question to us was, “Is Colorado Christian University still a contemplative college?”
Perhaps one of the most obvious signs that CCU is still a contemplative-promoting school is the fact that contemplative advocate Larry Crabb is a CCU professor. He was also the key note speaker at the  CCU 2013 Pastor’s Conference.  Lighthouse Trails has discussed Crabb in the past, in particularly about his book, The Papa Prayer, where he tells readers he has benefited much from contemplative and “centering” prayer (see our review).
(Gary Gilley of Southern View Chapel also reviewed “The Papa Prayer”, which mixes psychology with mysticism:
http://www.svchapel.org/resources/book-reviews/4-christian-living/183-the-papa-prayer-by-larry-crabb).
For those who may not realize just how committed Crabb is to the contemplative mission, consider this: Crabb is one of three Founding Executive Editors of a publication called Conversations Journal. The other two founding editors are David Benner and Gary Moon, both contemplative proponents as well. Lighthouse Trails has followed this magazine for a number of years and often quoted from or referred to it in (in a critical way). Others listed on the Copyright/Editorial page of Conversations Journal  are Richard Foster and the recently deceased Dallas Willard (Editorial Consultants), Basil Pennington (in Memorium), on the Editorial Board – John Ortberg and Ken Boa – both contemplatives. Section Editors include Emilie Griffin of Renovare and Jan Johnson (see A Time of Departing for examples of Jan’s contemplative propensities). Also on the Editorial Board is Jeannette Bakke. Bakke was recently discussed in a LT article about Ruth Haley Barton. She teaches at the Christos Center where people are trained in contemplative spirituality.  Conversations Journal is a who’s who and what’s what of contemplative spirituality. Just go to their website and use their search engine. Try terms like Thomas Merton, Thomas Keating, labyrinth, lectio divina, Henri Nouwen, Richard Rohr, and so forth. No one could deny that Conversations Journal is a strong advocate for contemplative spirituality. And in a proper line of reasoning, one would have to admit that CCU  is being impacted (contemplatively speaking) by having the Executive Editor of Conversations Journal teach at CCU.
In addition to Crabb’s role at CCU, the  2013-214 CCU catalog  includes a strong emphasis on Spiritual Formation.

MORE ON LARRY CRABB: See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Crabb.
New Way Ministries of Larry Crabb, http://www.newwayministries.org/larrycrabb.php, contains a brief biography of himself, excerpted:
Dr. Larry Crabb is a well-known psychologist, conference and seminar speaker, Bible teacher, popular author, and founder/director of NewWay Ministries. In addition to various other speaking and teaching opportunities, Dr. Crabb offers a weekend conference throughout the country entitled Life on the Narrow Road and a week-long School of Spiritual Direction held in Colorado Springs, CO. He currently is Scholar in Residence at Colorado Christian University in Colorado and serves as Spiritual Director for the American Association of Christian Counselors.”

Erin Benziger of Do Not Be Surprised reported that Crabb was invited to speak at Moody Church in Chicago: http://www.donotbesurprised.com/2012/03/moody-church-welcomes-spiritual.html, excerpt:
The Moody Church in Chicago is led by senior pastor Erwin Lutzer, who is widely known to be a staunch defender of maintaining a biblical worldview rather than succumbing to the liberal compromises of the day. That is why it is rather curious that Lutzer has chosen to hand his pulpit over to Larry Crabb, a psychologist-turned-spiritual-formation-expert whose efforts and books tend to promote contemplative prayer, mysticism, and elevate subjective experience over and above objective truth.”

J. Beard’s article about Crabb at http://www.rapidnet.com/~jbeard/bdm/exposes/crabb/crabb.htm,
“Crabb believes that the best counseling model is one in which “truth” from both the Bible and the “spoils” from secular psychology are “integrated” into a combined counseling model.”

Orrel Steinkamp of Plumbline Ministries, via Deception in the Church http://www.deceptioninthechurch.com/orrel52.pdf, page 1 reads quote:

Larry Crabb, a popular evangelical Christian psychologist of the last decade and author of many books, has apparently graduated to the contemplative. He expresses clearly the bankruptcy of pragmatic seeker sensitive spirituality. For him the mindless mysticism of Contemplative Prayer has brought him reality he apparently never found in pragmatic seeker sensitive spirituality. Here is his description of his former prayer-life.
“[Biblical] praying to God is something like e-mailing a relative you’ve never met, who lives in a place you have never been…Your relative never sends a picture of himself, never sends a picture of his house or land, and always writes a generic letter addressed to ‘my much loved relatives,’ like the ones we receive every Christmas. His emails never come only to you and are therefore never addressed only to you. He never calls, and you can’t call him. He has no phone.” (Crabb, The Pappa Prayer). It Amazes me that silent nothingness of the contemplative solves his problem. The antidote to Crabb’s unbelief appears to be an openness to mystical experiences repackaged centuries later from the so-called Desert Fathers and Mothers of 3rd and 4th centuries.”

Lighthouse Article Continued:

One of the most troubling things we learned (from the parent who called us) was that in April 2013, CCU invited Catholic Archbishop  Aquila to speak at CCU.  In Aquila’s speech at CCU, he states, “We all share the imperative of evangelization.” But the Archbishop is NOT talking about the same kind of evangelization as a biblical Christian would. There is only one kind of evangelization in the Catholic Church, and that is the evangelization to bring back the “lost brethren” (Protestants/evangelicals) to the “Mother Church.”  The Archbishop’s speech was a “let’s all get together to save America,” kind of speech, but the real goal of the papacy has always been to convert people to Catholicism.  As a school that claims to adhere to biblical principles and beliefs,  CCU leadership should know better than to have any part in an ecumenical effort that surely gave students the impression that Catholicism is a legitimate form of Christianity. Please read Roger Oakland’s book Another Jesus if you do not understand this.
Last, in this update, Kevin Turner, the Associate Professor of Youth Ministry and Theology at CCU’s School of Theology wrote a book titled Learn Before You Leap: 101 Case Studies for Youth Pastors (2012). Under a section titled “Contemplative Prayer Practices,” Turner poses a question about contemplative practices: prayer labyrinth, praying the Scriptures, lectio divina, and the Jesus Prayer (p. 142). He doesn’t come out and say they are either good or bad, but in the acknowledgements section of the book, he thanksYouth Specialties and its founder the late Mike Yaconelli who taught Turner ”how to feed [his] soul in a ministry context.” Turner states: ”When I began teaching, YS published the textbooks I used in class, and the YS academic support network became my community. Through the majority of my almost-50 years, Youth Specialties has been there at every step to help, inform, and inspire me. Since 1995 it has been a thrill to be involved on the NYWC staff along with Tic, Michelle, Marko, Mark, and so many others.” For those who aren’t aware, Youth Specialties has been a leading voice in promoting the emerging church movement and contemplative spirituality to tens of thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands) of youth in America. We can’t help but wonder if Turner absorbed Youth Specialties’ contemplative affinity. If he did, then, like Larry Crabb, he will be passing this on to CCU students.
Now, our 2011 Letter to the Editor
To Lighthouse Trails:
I am looking at colleges and it is really important to me that I find a college that will not have bad theology, is contemplative, new age, etc.
I went onto your website and found the list of colleges that are contemplative and Colorado Christian University was among them.
Everything I see on their website looks great. I was wondering how to determine whether a college fits into that category or not? I don’t want to go somewhere that could warp my faith but I also want to know what makes Colorado Christian a contemplative University?
Excerpts from our answer:
Dear  ________,
It’s a real dilemma with the colleges. So many of the Christian colleges are so influenced by the contemplative/emerging church spirituality, and our viewpoint is that this is very dangerous and against Scripture. The school in Colorado is one of the more emerging colleges out there. . . .
Here are some links regarding Colorado Christian University to back up what we have said about it. ______, if you have not readCastles in the Sand and Faith Undone, we hope you will before you go to college, wherever you choose.
Colorado Christian University:
1. Studying teachings of contemplative/emerging figures –  (This page has a number of contemplative and emerging references . It comes right out and says it will be studying the teachings of contemplatives such as Brennan Manning and Henri Nouwen.):

”We will be reading and discussing a variety of writers who will take us on a journey of honest self-examination, and provide us with a vision of what true, authentic , Biblical community really is. We will be reading from people like: Brennan Manning, Larry Crabb, Henri Nouwen, Andy Stanley, and Phillip Yancey.”

2. Here you can see that the school has a very strong emphasis on spiritual formation (the vehicle through which contemplative/emerging enter):

One example: Pastors Conference with contemplative advocate Larry Crabb

Regarding the textbooks they are using, we could show you many examples but here are just a few. This one is where they are using emerging church leader Brian McLaren: (link removed).  This really shows how far this school has gone down the emerging path.
This one is where they are using Youth Specialties former president Mark O (link removed).   Youth Specialties is a leader in the emerging church.
On this page, you will see textbooks they are using for their Leadership Program. One of them is a blatant New Age mystic (Daniel Goleman): (link removed)
We could go on and on with examples as this school is one of the most blatantly emerging schools out there (along with most Nazarene colleges, sad to say). If we can answer any specific questions, now or anytime later, please let us know. God bless.”

“DOXASOMA”-A NEW “CHRISTIANIZED” FORM OF YOGA AT THE YMCA~ANOTHER INTERFAITH HERESY TO DRAW YOU AWAY FROM JESUS CHRIST AS THE WAY, THE TRUTH & THE LIFE

Since we saw the practice of “Doxasoma” mentioned on the Wild Goose Festival program for August in North Carolina, we decided to investigate it further. We found some interesting discoveries.

Greenville Online of South Cartolina has a full report of its infiltration into several YMCAs:
http://www.greenvilleonline.com/article/20130425/NEWS05/304250028/Christian-yoga-gaining-bigger-following-Greenville. This article clearly shows that yoga is being “Christianized” for the purpose of making it seem more acceptable for Christians who formerly would not practice it because of its Hindu occult basis. “WILD GOOSE CHASE”~NAZARENE MIKE KING ORGANIZES SPIRITUALLY & SEXUALLY DEPRAVED EMERGENT/MYSTICAL “WILD GOOSE FESTIVAL” FOR 2013

THIS YEAR’S THEME: “REMEMBERING THE BODY”

See: http://wildgoosefestival.org/, which declares:
We dream of a movement where everyone is welcome to participate. We are intentionally building a space in which we invite everyone to value, respect, and fully affirm people of any ethnicity, age, gender, gender expression, sexual identity, education, bodily condition, religious affiliation, or economic background, particularly the marginalized. We are committed to fair trade, gift exchange, ecological sanity, and economic inclusion. We strive for high standards of mutual respect, non-hierarchical leadership, and participative planning.”
The lineup for this event includes:
LGBT singing group “Micah’s Rule”, which we posted about before:

Jonathan Wilson Hartgrove, leader in the “New Monastic Movement”, who we also reported on in a prior post:

Nadia Bolz-Weber, tattooed pastrix from the Evangelical Lutheran Church:
Phyllis Tickle, emergent re-definer of Christianity:
Philip Yancey, emergent heretic:
Doug Pagitt, emergent re-definer of Christianity and heretic:

Reads like total and absolute heresy and apostasy, mixed with Hindu yoga, Buddhist mindfulness, sexual perversion, ecstatic pagan dance, mystical practices, carnality, and otherwise bizarre spirituality.
“World-class musicians, best-selling authors, and people from all across the country will be descending on Hot Springs, North Carolina (just north of Asheville) for Wild Goose Festival 2013, August 8-11.

  • Apprising has had a lot to say about this annual event in North Carolina which resembles “Woodstock”:
Now we have the latest from Manny Silva:
Wildgoose Festival: A Small Example Of What Is Wrong With The Church
    Manny Silva, July 15, 2013

“These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; 13 raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever. Jude 1:12-13
While I finish up my General Assembly summary report for next week, I remind you again of a recurring event that is a good illustration of the depravity being allowed with impunity within the leadership of the Church of the Nazarene.  I am talking about Wildgoose Festival, which is happening again in August.  I have written several times about it, and have sent my reports to the General Superintendents.  Not a word from them, and apparently, no action has been taken to distance the church from this festival.
How is the church connected to this Sodom and Gomorrah- style party?
The organizer of the festival is Mike King.  He is adjunct professor at Nazarene Theological Seminary, and is a top youth leader in the church as well, which is most troubling.  In this blog post, he talks proudly of his involvement with Wildgoose:http://www.patheos.com/blogs/wildgoosefestival/2012/03/board-president-mike-king-recounts-wild-gooses-journey/.  Mike King not only promotes this festival with impunity, but he is also one of the primary promoters of contemplative spirituality in the denomination.
Also involved again for the second straight year is Nazarene pastor Gabriel Salguerro, who is seen in this promotional video, starting it 1:08, praising this pagan gathering celebrating anything but biblical Christianity.  Salguerro is involved with many endeavors that promote a radical, left wing and sometimes Marxist style philosophy, under the guise of a social justice supposedly driven by biblical principles.  For a Christian pastor to promote such a festival again shows the lack of leadership in the denomination from the top. It’s just like a parent who looks the other way when their child starts getting involved in all sorts of decadent and harmful behavior, and the parent pretends that he does not notice. Such is the leadership which has allowed this and many, many more unbiblical activities and teachings to go unchallenged.
In a report by Jeffrey Walton at his blog, he writes on how much even worst this year’s Wildgoose will become.  The push for creating “trans” inclusive communities has been added to the list of topics, along with the recurring themes of homosexuality, non-Christian religions and activities, and of course the all night parties.http://juicyecumenism.com/2013/07/12/wild-goose-festival-migrates-through-turbulent-issues-of-transgenderism-intersex/

    ( See also: http://juicyecumenism.com/2012/06/27/quack-christianity-at-the-wild-goose/
    and: http://juicyecumenism.com/2012/06/23/wild-goose-gets-an-education/,
    and: http://juicyecumenism.com/2012/06/22/role-playing-at-wild-goose/).

So Wildgoose is a little microcosm of the Church of the Nazarene’s lack of moral integrity and church discipline.  Just about anything can be done by just about any Nazarene leader, pastor, or layperson, and it will be okay with everyone.  However, please keep in mind there are exceptions, as listed below:

    Beware:
-If you dare to preach against the emergent church, you will be fired.
-If you dare to stand for the complete truth of Scripture, you may not get ordained.
-If you preach that homosexuality is sinful, you may

be asked to “tone it down.”
-If you dare to bring up concerns to your pastors, you just might get ostracized.
-If you dare to expose false teaching in the church, you will be labeled a hater.
-If you dare to say you believe in the Genesis account of creation, you might just get labeled an ignorant kook.

But, you have no worries at all:

    -If you promote ungodly festivals.
-Or teach evolution to our youth.
    -Or promote contemplative mysticism.
-Or send your youth on field trips to Roman Catholic Monasteries.
-Or promote LGBT groups, and brag about worshipping with openly homosexual pastors.
-Or teach that the Roman Catholic Church and the Nazarenes preach the same Gospel.
-Or join hands with the social justice crowd.
-Or use books by heretics instead of the Bible.
-Or invite Rob Bell and Leonard Sweet to speak to pastors.
Such is the state of the Church of the Nazarene today.  It’s not my father’s church that he knew years ago.

UPDATE AS OF JULY 23, 2013 FROM LIGHTHOUSE TRAILS RESEARCH:

“This year, from August 8-11, 2013, the Wildgoose Festival will take place in Hot Springs, North Carolina. The festival is an emergent ”church” event, which since its inception has included on the speaker list names like Brian McLarenPhyllis TickleJim WallisRichard Rohr, and Tony Jones. This year, Christianity Today editor and popular evangelical author Philip Yancey will join McLaren, Tickle, and a number of other hardcore emergent at the festival.Intervarsity Press, a long-standing evangelical publisher, is one of the sponsors helping to finance the event.
The Wildgoose Festival began in 2011, started by a group of North Americans who had been attending a festival in the UK called Greenbelt1 and were “inspired” to begin a similar event in the U.S. A history statement reads:

A place to meet each other in a renewed moment – a space for change. In the spirit of vibrant, category-defying Celtic Christianity, we saw our desire embodied in the Celtic Church’s way of speaking about the enigmatic Holy Spirit: The Wild Goose, who wanders where she will. Who can tame her? No one. Far better it is to embark on a Wild Goose Chase, and see the terrain of our faith be transformed.

Translated, what that means is that Christianity cannot be defined, or confined, to one particular set of beliefs (doctrine), that it is always changing, always transforming (thus the Bible, as Phyllis Tickles says, is a nice poetic book of beautiful stories, but not an authority from God). This has been the mantra-cry of the emergent church (see Faith Undone for a history of the current emergent church). Today, the emergent church has evolved into a full-blown Eastern-style mysticism-energized, quasi-Marxist, liberal, anti-atonement, pro-homosexual marriage ”community.”
Joining Yancey, McLaren, Phyllis Tickle, and Intervarsity Press will be Richard Cizik (formerly in leadership at the National Association of Evangelicals but left after showing support for homosexual marriage), Troy Bronsink, Mark Scandrette (see Faith Undone on Bronsink and Scandrette), Ian Morgan Cron,  and a fairly large number of other emergent-embracing speakers. Past speakers have included Lynne Hybels, the now late Richard Twiss (Indigenous People’s Movement), and Doug Pagitt.
The point we want to make in this brief conference alert is that when you have one of the most prolific evangelical authors and an editor of THE Christian magazine – Philip Yancey – along with a formerly traditional evangelical publishing company – Intervarsity Press – participating in an event like the Wildgoose Festival, you can see how much the emergent church has influenced and infiltrated evangelical Christianity. And even still, Christian leaders and most pastors remain silent.”

DELAWARE-A NO SALES TAX “SMALL WONDER” BUT BIG ON LIBERALISM & NOW HOSTILE TO CHRISTIANITY IN THE NAME OF “GENDER IDENTITY PROTECTION”

NO REFERENDUM THIS TIME FOR THE PEOPLE TO DECIDE.

CHURCHES AND THE YMCA/YWCA WILL HAVE TO PROVIDE TRANSGENDER BATHROOMS AND HIRE TRANSGENDERS. OR ELSE!

Governor Markell with transgender aide Sarah (Tim) McBride:

YES. MR MARKELL! A NEW DIRECTION INTO A PIT OF MORAL DEPRAVITY WITHOUT LOOKING BACK. CHRISTIANS AND CHURCHES BE DAMNED!
Delaware is small like Rhode Island. Smallness doesn’t mean the two states are not on the front lines of implementing all forms of liberalism, which they are.  Delaware, although below the Mason-Dixon line, identifies more with those magnetic liberal attracting states of the northeast which go out of their way to portray itself as welcoming, and offering incentives to, those who are looking for a haven for “victimized” Democratic voting socialist types who are in the minority elsewhere. Delaware has always been small, and on different levels, but now with Joe Biden, “native Delawarean” and self-appointed gun regulation/confiscation expert to his own state and the nation, and as vice president to Obama, Delaware is on the way to becoming a credible collectivist global player and nanny state. That is, if you will please turn a blind eye to all the ills that liberalism has birthed in this state, and instead blame Bush, Republicans and now Christians.
Delaware may be a quick rest stop along the Interstate 95 highway corridor for those travelling between the corrupt, morally bankrupt melting pot cities of the northeast like Boston, New York City, Philadelphia and Baltimore, but if it were not for its 0% sales tax, low property taxes, and low corporation taxes, there would really be no compelling reason to live, work, or spend time there. It’s similar to buying a junk bond; first you get a substantial discount from its face value, and then a very high dividend payout for assuming the high risk of living with an investment that is nearly worthless, and could default at any moment. The offsets may be high for a reason; the quality of life is at risk, but no one dares admit this. Delaware, in effect, gives you a discount and an incentive to keep your mouth shut. Just gleefully pay the tickets for driving through red light cameras so local government can have a way of circumventing the peoples’ tax referendums which sometimes denies government and schools what they think is justly theirs out of your pocket.
Christians and other conservatives who still remain in Delaware have virtually no voice; not because they have no voice or been openly denied a voice, (except by the liberal press who won’t print anti-liberal bias), but because they have resigned themselves to the idea that they are too small a minority to be heard or taken seriously, and/or are just intimidated and feel overwhelmed.
Occasionally, there appears on the scene politicians who make a feeble attempt to rally the Christian/conservative/Catholic vote, but always to no avail, because there is never enough “grass roots support” and/or money. Pastors and their congregations have for decades swallowed the idea that they are not permitted to be politically involved under a misguided interpretation of “separation of church and state”. Add to that the willing ignorance and preference for comfort common to a vast majority of Christians, and you have the perfect scenario for a dictatorial, collectivist state to impose its will.
Given the progression of this trend in Delaware, it comes as no surprise that Governor Jack Markell signed the Gender Identity Nondiscrimination Act (SB 97) on June 19, 2013, ensuring equal legal protections to transgender individuals in Delaware.
    See: http://news.delaware.gov/2013/06/19/governor-signs-gender-identity-nondiscrimination-act/
    Act in full:
    http://legis.delaware.gov/LIS/lis147.nsf/vwLegislation/SB+97/$file/legis.html?open.
    Synopsis:

“This Act adds the term “gender identity” to the already-existing list of
prohibited practices of discrimination and hate crimes. As such, this Act
would forbid discrimination against a person on the basis of gender
identity in housing, employment, public works contracting, public
accommodations, and insurance, and it would provide for increased
punishment of a person who intentionally selects the victim of a crime
because of the victim’s gender identity.”

The Senate passed the final version of the bill earlier in the day by an 11-9 vote following approval in the House on Tuesday by a 24-17 margin. Senate Majority Whip Margaret Rose Henry, D-Wilmington East, was the lead sponsor, with additional sponsorship from Senate President Patricia Blevins and Representative Bryon Short.
        Governor Markell proudly proclaimed:
“Our mission to build a welcoming and accepting state that can compete in the global economy requires laws that reflect our values,” said Markell. “Today, we guarantee that our transgender relatives and neighbors can work hard, participate in our communities, and live their lives with dignity and in safety.” “I especially want to thank my friend Sarah McBride, an intelligent and talented Delawarean who happens to be transgender. She courageously stood before the General Assembly to describe her personal struggles with gender identity and communicate her desire to return home after her college graduation without fear. Her tireless advocacy for passage of this legislation has made a real difference for all transgender people in Delaware.”

RICK WARREN’S “CELEBRATE RECOVERY”-12 STEP PROGRAM MIXED WITH A LITTLE BIBLE & LOTS OF PSYCHOHERESY & PSYCHOBABBLE

    Rick Warren speaks about:

“7 Reasons I Believe in Celebrate Recovery” in this video:

Apprising http://apprising.org/2011/02/04/saddleback-church-celebrating-recovery/, has a video of an alleged “Celebrate Recovery” anger management class:
    T. A. McMahon of the The Berean Call issued a short overview of the “Celebrate Recovery” 12 Step Program redefined by Rick Warren in this article from 2005: http://www.thebereancall.org/node/2568.

The full text of it is below:

    “A Way Which Seemeth Right…”

    Oct 1 2005

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (Proverbs:14:12)
I recently attended the Celebrate Recovery Summit 2005 at Saddleback Church in Southern California. The primary purpose of the conference was to train new leaders who would return to their churches and inaugurate the Celebrate Recovery (CR) program. Saddleback’s pastor, Rick Warren, describes CR as “a biblical and balanced program to help people overcome their hurts, habits, and hang-ups…[that is] based on the actual words of Jesus rather than psychological theory [emphasis added].” 1
As a long-time critic of psychological counseling and 12-Steps therapies in the church (see The Seduction of Christianity and archived TBCnewsletter articles and Q&As), I was pleased to have the opportunity to learn firsthand from those who are leading and/or participating in the program, to better understand what was intended in CR, and to see how it is implemented. What I learned right away was that the 3,000 or so in attendance had a tremendous zeal for the Lord and an unquestionable sincerity in desiring to help those who were struggling with habitual sin. This was my impression in all of my interactions—with individuals, in small groups, in workshop sessions, and in the general worship sessions. The CR Summit lasted three (eight- to nine-hour) days and covered nearly every aspect of Celebrate Recovery.
Nevertheless, other thoughts ran through my mind as I reviewed whether or not I had missed something significant in my previous criticisms of 12-Steps recovery therapies. Is Celebrate Recovery’s 12-Steps program truly different—that is, “biblical and balanced…rather than psychological”—as Rick Warren believes? Furthermore, is he simply naïve when he says in his “Road to Recovery” series of sermons, “In 1935 a couple of guys formulated, based upon the Scriptures , what are now known as the classic twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and used by hundreds of other recovery groups. Twenty million Americans are in a recovery group every week and there are 500,000 recovery groups. The basis is God’s Word [emphasis added].” Or is Celebrate Recovery another alarming example of a way that seems right to a man but one that is turning believers to ways and means other than the Bible to solve their sin-related problems? Let’s consider these questions in light of some A.A. and 12 Steps background information.
To begin with, 12-Steps programs are not just a Saddleback Church issue. Increasing numbers of evangelical churches are sponsoring Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) and Narcotics Anonymous (N.A.) meetings and/or creating their own self-help groups based upon A.A.’s 12-Steps principles. Bill Wilson, one of the founders of A.A., created the 12 Steps. Wilson was a habitual drunk who had two life-changing events that he claims helped him achieve sobriety: 1) he was (mis)informed by a doctor that his drinking habit was a disease and was therefore not his fault, and 2) he had an experience (which he viewed as spiritual enlightenment) that convinced him that only “a Power greater than” himself could keep him sober. Attempting to understand his mystical experience, he was led into spiritism, a form of divination condemned in the Scriptures. His official biography indicates that the content of the 12-Steps principles came to him “rapidly” through spirit communication. Certainly not from God.
Celebrate Recovery began 14 years ago at Saddleback and is used in more than 3,500 churches today, making it evangelical Christianity’s most prominent and widely exported 12-Steps church program. Warren considers CR to be “the center of living a purpose-driven life and building a purpose-driven church” and recently announced that Chuck Colson’s Prison Fellowship would begin implementing CR in every prison where the ministry is functioning.
Celebrate Recovery is a very complex methodology that attempts to bring biblical adjustments to the 12-Steps program originated by A.A. and utilized in numerous other “addiction” recovery programs. The complexity, however, applies to the setting up and implementation of the program as well as to the strict rules that govern its execution. Although there are many problems related to “making it work,” there is only space in this article to address some fundamental issues. Let’s begin with the implications regarding the name of the program.
Reflecting A.A.’s influence upon CR, the term “Recovery” is significant. All those in A.A. are “recovering” alcoholics, who, according to A.A., never completely recover. Recovery is a term that primarily denotes a process of physical healing. A.A. teaches that alcoholism is a disease for which there is no ultimate cure. Although CR rejects A.A.’s view of alcoholism as a disease and calls it sin, the title nevertheless promotes the A.A. concept in contradiction to what the Bible teaches. Sin is not something from which a believer is “in recovery.” Sin is confessed by the sinner and forgiven by God. The believer is cleansed of the sin right then. “I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin” (Ps:32:5).
At the 2005 Celebrate Recovery Summit, every speaker introduced himself or herself in the A.A. “recovery” mode, with this “Christianized” difference: “Hi, I’m so and so…and I’m a believer in Jesus Christ who struggles with issues of (alcohol, drug, codependency, sex, or whatever) addiction.” The audience then applauded to affirm the individual for overcoming the “denial” of his or her habitual sin. Not to confess some “addiction” or specific sin struggle raises suspicions of “being in denial.” Throughout the three-day conference, there was never a hint from any of the speakers that anything about A.A., 12 Steps, or CR might not be biblical. Moreover, where Celebrate Recovery programs were not available, those “in recovery” were encouraged to attend A.A. or N.A. meetings.
Rick Warren, on video, reassured the Summit attendees that CR was no man-made therapy. He insisted that CR was based upon the “actual words of Jesus Christ from the eight Beatitudes, which parallel the 12 Steps” and identified his own “Higher Power: His name is Jesus Christ.” I don’t find “Higher Power,” which is a misrepresentation of God, in the Bible. Nor can I fathom why a Bible-believing Christian would want to promote Bill Wilson’s concept and methodology. Why not simply rely on what the Bible teaches?
Is God’s way completely sufficient to set one free from so-called addictions? Did A.A.’s founders provide a more effective way? If so, what did the church do for the nearly 2,000 years prior to Bill Wilson’s “spiritually enlightened” way to recovery? Moreover, if Wilson’s method really works, why are some in the church trying to add Jesus as one’s Higher Power and the Beatitudes to it? On the other hand, if the effectiveness of the 12-Steps program is questionable at best and detrimental to the gospel and to a believer’s life and growth in Christ, why attempt to “Christianize” such a program? It is imperative that all believers ask themselves whether or not they truly believe that the Scriptures and the enablement of God’s Holy Spirit are sufficient for “all things that pertain to life and godliness” (2 Pt 1:3). A rejection of this biblical teaching is the only possible justification for turning to ways the Bible condemns: “the counsel of the ungodly” (Ps:1:1) and “a way which seemeth right unto a man.”
How dependent is Celebrate Recovery upon (with minor modifications) A.A.’s 12 Steps? Completely! Those going through CR’s small group take from 12 to 16 months to complete the 12-Steps program. Many go through more than one small group and often become leaders in one while attending others. Without Bill Wilson’s principles, the CR program would be reduced to a handful of misapplied Bible verses. Tragically, the most obvious biblical problem with such an approach to overcoming habitual sins seems to be dismissed by all 12-Steps advocates: the Bible never offers a by-the-numbers self-help methodology for deliverance from sin or for living a sanctified life. God’s way involves obedience to His full counsel and maturity in Christ through the enablement of His Holy Spirit.
Warren’s CR program views the 12 Steps as generally compatible with Scripture yet seeks out verses that appear to biblically reinforce each step. In doing so, however, scriptural interpretations are forced upon concepts that either have no direct relationship to the Bible or that pervert the true interpretation of the scripture intended to support the particular step. CR’s attempt to use the Beatitudes as biblical principles for overcoming habitual sins, for example, is a serious distortion of the Word of God.
Search as you may, you’ll find no commentaries that even hint at such a use of the Beatitudes. Why? Simply because the Beatitudes all have to do with seeking the Kingdom of God and nothing to do with solving an individual’s so-called addictions. Again, why try to legitimize from Scripture Wilson’s “ungodly counsel” from “seducing spirits [bringing] doctrines of devils” (1 Tim:4:1)?
Consider, for example, the “Beatitudes-justified” first three steps: (1) We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors. That our lives had become unmanageable. “Happy are those who are spiritually poor.” (2) Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. “Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” (3) Made a decision to turn our life and our will over to the care of God (modified from A.A.’s “God as we understood Him”). “Happy are the meek.” This is more than a misdirected attempt to sanctify (in Rick Warren’s words) Bill Wilson’s “biblically vague” 12 Steps. 2 It both abuses the Scriptures and reinterprets Wilson.
In these foundational steps, Wilson is summarizing his beliefs based upon his experiences as a “recovering alcoholic.” He felt “powerless” because he believed alcoholism was an incurable disease that consequently made his life “unmanageable.” Since he couldn’t “cure” himself (although millions do without 12-Step or other therapies!), he put his faith in “a power greater than ourselves,” whom he called God, and “understood” Him by fabricating Him out of beliefs discovered in his study of different religions and religious experiences. That’s more than “biblically vague.” It’s a false religion.
So why would Celebrate Recovery or the multitudes of other Christianized 12-Steps groups try to reconcile the Word of God with Wilson’s definitely erroneous and demonically inspired methodology? The deluded response is: “Because it works!” But does it?
Pragmatism is the fuel that powers “the way that seems right” and governs much of what is being lauded in the church today. Not only is this unbiblical, but too often there is nothing beyond enthusiastic testimonials to support the claim that something actually works. The reality for the 12-Steps program of A.A. and N.A. is that there is no research evidence proving that they are more effective than other treatments. Furthermore, the most extensive studies related to “addictions” conclude that most drug and alcohol abusers recover without any psychotherapeutic treatment or self-help therapies. 3
The many problems inherent within a Christianized 12-Steps program—and particularly   Celebrate   Recovery—are too numerous for this brief article. Yet, consider these observations: CR is highly promoted as completely biblical and not psychological, yet the key speakers for CR Summit 2005 were clinical psychologists Drs. John Townsend and Henry Cloud. Psychologist David Stoop, the editor of Life Recovery Bible(CR participants’ mandatory paraphrase Bible, polluted with psychotherapy commentary), is a favorite speaker at Saddleback’s CR Large Group meetings. The CR leadership manual advises, “Have Christian psychotherapists volunteer their time to help instruct and support your leaders.” 4
CR’s entire program content is marbled with psychobabble such as this “solution” from its Adult Children of the Chemically Addicted group’s dogmas: “The solution is to become your own loving parent….You will recover the child within you, learning to accept and love yourself.” 5This is biblical?! Honoring the psychologically contrived “disorder” of codependency, CR’s Codependency and Christian Living group made this humanistic and biblically false statement: “Jesus taught….A love of self forms the basis for loving others.” 6
A.A.’s 12-Steps methodology, along with its antibiblical psychotherapeutic concepts and practices permeates Celebrate Recovery, yet no one at the Summit with whom I spoke seemed concerned. CR’s small group meetings are the antithesis of the way the Bible instructs mature believers to help those young or struggling in the faith to grow. Pastors and elders can be small group leaders, but not for teaching purposes. No leader may biblically instruct or correct but may only affirm the “transparency” of the participant sharing his feelings. “Cross-talk,” or comments by others, are prohibited to allow the freest expression possible. Much of this “expression” reinforces psychotherapeutic myths. The two-hour meetings usually open with the spiritually anemic Serenity Prayer and the recitation of the 12 Steps. Leaders are drawn from those who have completed one or more 12-Step groups. Some leaders work through one “addiction” in a small group while leading another group. It’s not unusual for a leader to put in eight to ten hours in CR functions per week, every week. Serious Bible study and discipleship are not part of the Celebrate Recovery “biblical” emphasis.
Let no one think that presenting these critical concerns about Celebrate Recovery in any way lessens the biblical obligation (Gal 6) of the church to minister to those struggling with habitual sin. The issue is not whether we should minister, but how we should minister: man’s way or God’s way? Man’s way, or a mixture of biblical teaching and ungodly counsel , is contrary to God’s way. Man’s way leads to death. Applying Scripture to man’s way leads to a slower death, akin to what would result when pure water is added to a toxic drinking fountain. We desperately need to take heed to God’s admonition through the Prophet Jeremiah: “For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water” (Jer:2:13). TBC

Men of Mud Blog has two extensive articles:
Rejoice Now of the Netherlands has an English translated article:
Addiction Recovery Ministry has a PDF article that is very good:
    Excerpt:
“I do not believe that CR should be “yoked” with 12 Steps because it is heretical. I also believe that Pastor
Warren recognizes that this is true, which is why he has attempted to insert “Jesus” into the 12 Steps
program and applied biblical verses to the steps. What exactly is the point of starting with a program that
is decidedly unbiblical and try to “Christianize” it with Biblical jargon? Why not simply teach directly from
the Bible and tell people about the transformational power of the gospel (What the Church has done for
thousands of years). Yes, the gospel liberated people from their sin before 12 Steps and it will continue
to do so until Christ’s return.
It is my firm conviction that programs, like 12 Steps and Celebrate Recovery, add to the gospel. The
gospel of Jesus Christ is not based on steps, meetings, or principles but belief in God and obedience to
His word. This is the true message that needs to be part of recovery from habitual sin, like those
practiced by people living with an addiction. Yes, administrators of 12 Steps programs sincerely desire to
help those in the programs they facilitate. And yes, I believe that Pastor Warren loves people and desires
that attendees of CR experience victory over addiction. However, true freedom is only found in Jesus
Christ and is not the product of steps, meetings, and programs.”

POPE FRANCIS-THE ANTICHRIST IN OUR MIDST-THE PROOF

BEREAN BEACON HAS MADE A NEW VIDEO PRESENTING A COMPELLING CASE:
With Pope Francis enthroned as Pontiff of Rome, it is time to ask, “Who is the Antichrist in our midst?” Pope Francis is called “the most holy Roman Pontiff” and the Vicar of Christ. In this video, Richard Bennett, together with W. J. Mencarow, analyze the topic using scripture and history. The conclusion is that only the Lord God could have described beforehand the office of the Papacy of the Roman Catholic Church. That a power claiming to act for God, yet flouting His truth and mocking His very Holiness, defies imagination. Nonetheless, fraud and false pretenses have ruled the world for ages, from the very same seven-hilled city where Pope Francis now reigns. This DVD is professionally made. Exact scriptural quotations, together with photographs and paintings, illustrate and document the fact that the Pope’s office is indeed the Antichrist in our midst. Kindly make this DVD known to others by forwarding its URL.
    Thank you,

    Tony’s Letter to Parliament

    Dear__________

I am writing to you because I was arrested on a London high street on Monday (1st July) for preaching from the Bible. I believe my arrest has great significance in light of the current passage of the Government’s Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill.

I was arrested under Section 5 of the Public Order Act for using “homophobic” language which was deemed offensive. The language I used was not homophobic, as I was not promoting fear or hatred of homosexuals. I was simply explaining a passage in the Bible which speaks of sexual immorality and that people should abstain from it (1 Thessalonians 4:1-12). I did not speak solely about homosexuality as a form of sexual immorality but also about any kind of sex outside of marriage between one man and one woman, as well as lustful thoughts. All of these are considered mainstream Christian positions and have been taught and believed by Christians for thousands of years.

After being questioned by police officers on the street, I was taken to the local police station and arrived there at 4:50PM. Here I was searched, my property was removed from me and my camera was booked as evidence. I was then photographed, a sample of my DNA was taken and my fingerprints were taken. I was placed in a cell with a toilet but no toilet paper. The investigating officer offered me a £90 ticket which would ensure my immediate release and an assurance that I would be able to return to the country (I am a US citizen). He told me my solicitor was on the way to the station and I said I would like to wait to talk to him before making a decision.
Later in the evening, I met my solicitor and with him present I was interviewed by the investigating officer. I was advised that the interview was being recorded and that I could refuse to answer questions but that this may be held against me in court. The investigator asked me to give my account of what happened before asking specific questions. He asked me, among other things, whether I believed homosexuality was a sin. He also asked me: “So if someone you knew as a homosexual came up to you and asked you for a favor, you’d quite happily offer them that favor would you?”

It was unnerving to be questioned about my Christian beliefs and I was made to feel that my thoughts could be held against me. The two final questions were: “Do you believe you are 100 per cent right in what you did today?” (I answered yes) and: “If you were to go back there tomorrow, would you do the same thing again?” to which I also answered yes.

After the interview my solicitor had a conversation with the investigating officer outside of my hearing. When my solicitor returned, he told me that the investigating officer said my answers to the last two questions left him no choice but to seek prosecution. I was then advised by my solicitor that I would likely spend up to 24 hours in jail and that I would go before the magistrate the following day. He also advised me that while the magistrate could allow me to return to the United States, he could order me to stay in the United Kingdom until the completion of the trial, which could be three to four months. After that I was escorted back to my cell. I was then given, upon request, a Bible to read – the very book whose teachings led to my arrest!

An hour or so later, the investigating officer entered my cell and told me the inspector had decided to release me with no further action. At midnight I was released from jail, after just over seven hours in custody. I asked the desk sergeant if I could donate Bibles to the station. He welcomed the offer and said I could leave them with the desk officer at the front of the station. My solicitor then drove me to my place of residence.

I felt I should write and inform you of these events, since it was very distressing to be arrested and interrogated for openly expressing my deeply held Christian beliefs. I began my message by assuring the people that mine was not a message of hate but of love.

I don’t expect you to share my beliefs but think you will agree that I, and everybody else, should have the freedom to express those beliefs without fear of reprisals from the Government. My freedom was taken away from me simply because someone didn’t like what I said. Now that your nation has begun down this slippery slope, where will it end? Will people one day be arrested for disagreeing with the political party in power? And what assurance will the people have that it will stop with speech? It did not stop with speech in 1930s Germany. Many of your countrymen sacrificed their lives to end the tyranny that began with the abandonment of free speech. Nations that do not learn from history are destined to repeat it.

For these reasons I urge you to do what you can to halt the Bill’s progress before freedom of speech is not just shut down on the streets (as it was for me) but also in churches, universities, schools and homes.

Please be assured of my prayers for God’s blessing on you in your important role as a public servant.
    Yours sincerely

    Tony Miano

    Police Interviewer in Regular Script
Michael Phillips, solicitor for Mr. Miano italicized and capped by “LR:”

    Begin:

This interview is being tape recorded, and… [unclear] Wimbledon police station. And there are no other officers present. We are at Interview Room Three at Wimbledon Police Station… and I am interviewing… Could you please state your name and date of birth?

Anthony Edward Miano, date of birth is Feb 22, 1964.

Thank you very much, also present is?

LR: Michael Phillips, [unclear] legal representative.

Thank you very much. The date is the first of July, 2013 and the term is 21:08, so 9:08 in the evening. Okay. So, Tony this interview is being tape recorded so should this ever go to court one of the tapes will be sealed and it can be used in evidence should this ever get that far.

    Understood.

Okay, Brilliant. At the time of your arrest today, by PC Green, which was at 16:50, you were cautioned by him. Do you remember that? Do you remember him saying something along those lines? You’re under arrest and hence I’m cautioning you? Do you remember that?

    You’ll have to define cautioning.

Basically what it means is he would have said something, I can repeat it to you, and you tell me if you recognize it. He would have said to you, you do not have to say anything but it may harm your defense if we later rely on this in court. Anything you do say may be given evidence.

    Okay.

Also I appreciate this isn’t your country of origin and you haven’t been arrested before by us. So I will explain caution to you, okay? The first part is, I’ll break it down into three parts, okay? The first part is you don’t have to say anything. Okay, that is your legal right in this country, you can sit here in silence if you want for this interview. I’m going to ask you some questions so if you do wish to take that right then I would appreciate it if you could just say no comment. The reason for that is at least I know one, you’ve at least understood the question and two, you’ve heard it.

    I understand.

Okay. The second part is, should you not say anything here, and give a defense should this ever go to court, the court might, may draw its own conclusions, sorry, as to why you didn’t just tell me now. Okay?

    Understood.

And the last bit is, as I said to you in the beginning, this interview is being tape recorded. One of these tapes will be sealed, and should this ever go to court that seal will remain around it until the court and be opened in front of your legal representation and the criminal prosecution service, okay, and they can play it in court as evidence. Okay?

    I understand.

    Okay, happy to understand caution?

    I do.

Brilliant. Are you happy? [directed to legal representation]

    LR: I’m pleased.

Marvelous, alright. As I said to you earlier on, you were arrested by PC Green at 16:50 for a Section 5 Public Order Act with a homophobic aggravating factor. Okay? Do you want to tell me what you were doing outside Centre Court Shopping Center today at that time?

    I was preaching the Gospel.

    Okay. Were you by yourself?

I was with several friends, a few from the United States and a few from here in the London area.

Okay, and how long have you been preaching the Gospel for?

    In totality?

I’m sorry, as in in this country, as in recently?

During this visit since June 22nd.

So since June 22nd, okay yeah. Sorry just to make you aware as well I will be making notes nothing to worry about just for my benefit later on.

    I understand.

You’ve been here since June 22nd, is that right?

    Yes.

Okay, and you’ve been preaching the Gospel. Is there any specific part of the Gospel you were preaching?

    All of it.

Okay, and you’re starting from the beginning and working your way through?

Yes, I will preach through different passages of Scripture. And part of proclaiming the Gospel is sharing the law of God, bringing people to a knowledge of their sin so that they will understand their need for a savior.

Okay. With regards to the group of people. Is it, would you, break it up into sections and do a bit each or would you do do the whole book and someone else would do the whole Gospel? Or does it how does it work?

Each person preaches basically until they’re done. They preach the Gospel message as they feel so lead to do. And then someone else would start from the beginning and preach their own message.

Okay, and obviously, one of the things that caused a scene was the cameras. Do you film there?

    Yes.

What’s the purpose of filming the preaching?

For our own protection, for one, just in case accusations are made against us.

    Like this.

Like this, yes. Just in case there’s any type of physical assault against us, so that we can document that as well. Also for the edification of other Christians. We use these videos to train other Christians how to share the Gospel. So those are basically the reasons.

Okay. So if we talk about sort of the incident surrounding your arrest. Okay, do you remember specifically what happened when you were arrested? All of the events leading up to your arrest? Anything stand out as the reason why you think you were arrested? Not necessarily that you agree with why you were arrested I just want.

LR: [unclear] if you could just give the lead up to what happened?

Sure, I was preaching from a passage of Scripture in 1 Thessalonians Chapter 4.

You have to let me write that down.

    Sure.

    1 Thessalonian…

    Chapter 4.

    Thank you.

I believe the passage was verse 1 through I think verse 11 or 12.

    Verse 1 through to 11/12.

In that passage of Scripture, the apostle Paul encourages the Thessalonians to abstain from all forms of sexual immorality. And to live a holy life, that is consistent with a life devoted to God and the holiness of God.

Okay, so you were preaching this chapter, or these verses from this chapter?

    Right.

    Okay, and then what happened?

And I was preaching about various forms of sexual immorality. Both homosexual and heterosexual, including fornication, which is sex prior to marriage.

    Okay.

And including adultery, not only the cheating on a spouse but also looking at someone with lust. For Jesus said whoever looks at a person to lust after them, that person has already committed adultery with that person in their heart. And that all forms of sexual immorality is sin in the eyes of God. Sin that God will judge, but sin that also God will forgive. Now, prior to being able to get to the good news of the Gospel, I was stopped. So I was still working my way through the law of God and the consequences of sin, before I, I was stopped before I could get to the good news of how someone could receive forgiveness for that sin and the free gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.

Okay. And you were stopped by? Do you remember who stopped you?

Well Officer Green, Constable Green. There were several officers with him, I didn’t get all their names. One officer was named Ed.

Yeah, that would be PC Green.

Okay, who else am I thinking of? Officer Green was the officer who brought me in?

Yeah, his name is Ed yeah.

Oh well there was another officer.

Yeah, it would be PC Bailey [unclear] I would imagine. But, prior to your arrest, do you remember anyone who may have made any comments to you taking exceptions as to your comment?

    Yes.

Okay, talk me through what happened in that instance.

Well, first there was an older gentleman who told me F off. I won’t say exactly what he said. But told me to F off as he was getting on the bus behind me. And then a woman, presumably, the woman who apparently called the police, she likewise told me to F off as she was walking into the mall and I don’t recall exactly what I said to her. But at one point I asked, I would love to dialogue with you about this.

    Okay.

And that’s when she walked into the mall and she came back down a short time later. It looked like she was filming with her phone [unclear]. And shortly after the police arrived.

Okay, the lady in question, I would make the assumption, I haven’t met her, but I would make the assumption, as you have, that she is the complainant in that instance. She, I won’t bore you, well I say bore you, but I won’t read [unclear] the whole statement because it just details the fact that she was there, at around today’s date outside Center Court Shopping Centre at around 2:30. Okay? She says that she was a pedestrian, so she was on foot. Okay, and she walked out of the shopping center exit near to Wimbledon train station. Is that in relation to where you were, do you feel?

That Wimbledon train station is over the hill from where we were. We were standing…

There is an entrance just by the center court entrance.

Oh there is? I wasn’t aware of that. The entrance I’ve always come out of…

    The one at the top?

The one across the street from my favorite restaurant out here. [unclear restaurant name] I didn’t know there was one closer to the actual mall.

    Okay well yea, I mean.

I just recall her walking down the hill in our direction, in my direction, and then walking towards the center court? [unclear] Yeah, she was walking toward that entrance.

And at about 2:30 the first time she recognized you, she thought nothing of it at the time. Her intention was to go out to try and obtain tickets for tennis.

    At 2:30?

Yeah, she came back at half past four and this is when the incident occurred in your direction. She’s just detailing how the incident occurred. Sorry, it was at ten past four. She says that she walked back down to the entrance to centre court, which is the shopping centre, not center court tennis, and she noticed that what she described as a male who had originally been speaking about God on the microphone was now filming another male in a red t-shirt. Does that sound about right to you?

Well, my friend who [unclear], he was filming the preaching.

I mean your t-shirt is burgundy.

Yeah, it’s not a t-shirt but that was me.

She says again thinking nothing of it, she walked by. She got about five metres from the man in the red t-shirt and she heard him say, “homosexuality is a sin, we all know it’s wrong.” Did you say that?

    Words to that effect, yes.

Okay, she says she was extremely offended by this, which caused her a lot of distress. She said the microphone the man was speaking into was attached to a loudspeaker and could be heard by a large captive audience. She said she mouthed, “f… you.”

I’m glad she admitted to that.

Yes, and she says, for the benefit of this we are going to say you are, was there anyone else wearing a red t-shirt?

    No it was me.

Okay, so she says that you said this, and you said, “tell me to fuck off, will you come and have a discourse with me?”

I said words to that effect, that I would like to have a dialogue with you.

    Okay.

I wouldn’t have used the word discourse.

Okay. She says that she was with another person who was around [unclear], she saw that she was angry and took her by the arm and led her away. They apparently went to have a discussion about it. And she said due to the man making homophobic statements, saying homophobic statements in the public place, that she felt an offense had been committed and she called the police. While she was waiting for them to arrive, she said you said, “God wants the world to be ordered as one man and one woman, heterosexuality. Homosexuality, lesbianism, and fornication is wrong. God knows that, you know that. Will any man here man up and agree with me or that girl earlier?”

    That’s not what I said.

    That’s not what you said.

    No, particularly at the end.

    Okay.

I did use the phrase, “man up.”

    So you said, “man up.”

Right, but that is in reference to a man who had walked by and cursed at me. And I asked, in general, when will the men of this community, man up and stand by their convictions? Basically come and talk to me instead of just coming by and cursing me. I didn’t say when will people man up and agree with me. I didn’t say that.

    So you just wanted to…

I wanted, men to instead of whispering as they’re walking by, to stop and to have a dialogue and to stand by their convictions and actually talk about it.

Okay. So basically as you said earlier, to spread God’s word in a sense. You wanted essentially to teach, well I can’t remember the exact words earlier on, but you know, preach the Gospel.

    Yes.

So, she also says that these, I can’t even pronounce it, vitriolic statements, again caused me alarm and distress. And she says, while this was happening, a man with a gray [unclear] started to film her reactions to the words. She said that she felt intimidated by that. And that’s basically, she just goes on to describe you. She says a white male, overweight.

He is, he’s working on it though.

Well, no. She actually says the red t-shirt. I wouldn’t suggest you’re overweight. [cordial laughter]

Oh, I am too. I need to lose some weight myself.

She says about late to mid 50s.

[unclear] Wow, close, that’s pretty much.

She’s a bit harsh. American accent and she said she’s never seen you before. And she said it last about 5-10 minutes. Okay, so I’ve read you the statement, what do you think about that? How do you feel about what she said?

I feel she was trying to intimidate us by filming us.

    Yeah.

So it’s interesting that she said she was intimidated by being filmed. The camera was, I don’t recall how long the camera was actually on her because I was preaching, but I do distinctly recall her, her, filming me. And saying to her that I hope she will watch the video and listen to it and come to repentance and faith in Christ. Or words to that effect.

And what was your… I appreciate you saying this to me earlier. What was your sole intention by doing this today?

My sole intention, my faith, my Christian faith teaches me to love God with all of my heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love my neighbor as myself. There is nothing more loving that I will ever do for another human being than to warn them of God’s wrath to come against sin and point them to the only one who could forgive their sin, and that’s Jesus Christ.

    Okay.

So my intent was to love people with the Gospel.

Okay, and you believe through, your, your religion, that homosexuality is a sin?

    Yes, I do.

How do you feel… Members of the public may feel?

[unclear interruption] LR: Can we just, I think it’s important just to say, to distinguish between homosexuality as an individual, and the sin itself. Would you be able to just distinguish between that. Is a homosexual person evil, they have…

No, a person who tells a lie, a person who steals, a person who harbors bitterness or resentment or hatred in their heart, a person who is discontent with what God has given them in their life and covets what other people have, a person who takes God’s name in vain, who is selfish, a person, if a person sins against God they face the same righteous judgement from God as any person committing any other sin.

    Okay.

LR: So what, just to recall the distinction between the act itself and person who has the inclination to do the act. So they’re not the same. You’re not saying that person is an evil person just because they have an inclination to be homosexual. For that reason alone.

I’m not sure I understand the question. The point is that all of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. That’s why when I was speaking out there today, I wasn’t speaking exclusively about homosexuality. I was speaking about fornication of any kind. Heterosexual fornication, heterosexual adultery, looking at a person with lust, whether or not you’re married, any form of sexual immorality is a sin before God.

Okay. Let me give you an example just for my benefit. You’ll have to excuse my ignorance regarding religion. You know… If two males walked past you holding hands, and in your view apparently homosexuals, would you consider them a sinner?

    Yes.

Okay, that is what I wanted to know. So in that sense of the word, in that respect, do you feel what you were doing today, preaching the gospel, making the comments about homosexuality being a sin, do you think that that could have upset people?

I think it could upset people because people love their sin. I think if someone walked by when I was talking about lying, and they had just lied, someone would be upset with that. I think if I was talking about hating another person and someone was harboring hatred in their heart towards someone else, they could be upset with that. That’s because people do not like to hear that they have sinned against a holy God.

Okay, the issue as well is that not everyone is religious, so not everyone would see homosexuality as a sin, would they?

I don’t think that’s relevant. Because God sees it as a sin.

    No? Okay. [unclear]

    We don’t determine… excuse me?

So you [unclear] are you offended by it because you are religious?

    Am I offended by what?

    By homosexuality.

Homoesexuals don’t do anything to me.

    No.

    They offend God. Just as…

    Okay. It doesn’t offend you.

Just as my sin offends God.

    It doesn’t offend you?

No. I harbor no bitterness or resentment…

    Okay.

    Toward homosexuals or…

That’s basically what I was getting at. You don’t have any, you don’t have any…

I don’t have any anger towards them.

And you never discriminate against them?

    No.

So if someone you knew as a homosexual came up to you and asked you for a favor, you’d quite happily offer them that favor would you?

The word of God tells me to love your neighbor as myself.

    Okay.

So if a homosexual walked up to me and said, I’m hungry and I need something to eat. I would walk them to the nearest restaurant, give them something to eat, and share the Gospel with them because I love them.

Okay, so. Tell me what you were doing today then. It’s apparent from this statement we have, that you have upset someone. Okay. She’s saying that what you said she found distressing, okay? Someone else has told you to “F off” as you put it. A gentleman, so whatever you were saying at that time people obviously found distressing I don’t know.

There’s also, according to the definition of terms we’re using, it’s kind of distressing to tell someone to F off, isn’t it?

Well I’d agree with you, a hundred percent. Because as far as I understand, swearing in a public place, isn’t acceptable, yeah?

    I agree.

Yeah. Obviously I can only work with the information I’m given today.

Sure, I understand. I’m not looking for a pound of flesh from anyone.

No no no, I appreciate that.

I’m not looking for any retribution.

I can assure that if you had told me at the time that she had told you to F off the same thing would have happened to her. Because as far as I’m concerned, two wrongs don’t make a right.

    I appreciate that.

The issue obviously as well, is, well, you know, I appreciate what you’re saying regarding your beliefs and the fact that you were preaching the Gospel. As I said to you earlier, not everyone is religious. Okay, so they don’t have an understanding as you, as you obviously as you do of the Gospel.

    Right.

I certainly don’t. So, do you accept that what you were saying, is likely to upset some people.

No, I don’t accept that. Because I’ve also seen people with tears in their eyes come to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, realizing that they’ve sinned against God. Regardless, my understanding is that what the word of God says about the nature of man is that regardless of what a person expresses with their mouth, or with their demeanor, or with their body language, even if they would say that they were offended or insulted does not necessarily mean that’s the case. It could very well be that they’ve been convicted but their heart and they don’t want the preacher to see that.

    Okay.

    And that’s always my hope.

    Okay.

My hope is that that lady will go home tonight and she will turn from her sin and put her trust in Jesus Christ the Lord for her salvation. That one day I will get to worship with her side by side in heaven.

Okay. And, last question I’ve got for you, is do you think what you did was acceptable in a public place…

    Absolutely.

With, I don’t know how many people walking past you during the day bearing in mind the tennis championships are on, do you feel that what you did, making the comments you made, is 100% acceptable in a public place?

Not only 100% acceptable, but commanded by God.

    Okay.

I’m commanded by God to love people and to proclaim the Gospel to as many people as I can for as long as I can.

Will you do this again tomorrow?

If I have the opportunity, yes.

Okay. Okay. I’m quite happy about, I’ve asked the questions I need to ask. This is your interview, so this is your opportunity to give your account of what happened today leading up to your arrest, anything else you wish to, you think’s relevant to the case. This is your opportunity to give it so I will offer you the opportunity now before I turn the tapes off. Is there anything else you would like to add?

    I don’t think so, I think we’ve covered everything.

LR: Just a couple questions I had. What would you say to anybody that said you were trying to insult people.

    I would say they’re wrong.

LR: And why would you say that?

The reason for being out there. The reason I flew all the way from Southern California to London, was to love people and share the Gospel with them. I hope to be used by God to see people come to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. There’s never intent to insult, there’s never any intent to inflame. Of course people aren’t going to agree with everything I say, just as I don’t agree with everything other people say. But my intention, is, to love people as others loved me and shared the Gospel with me so that I could receive forgiveness of my sin and the free gift of eternal life. That’s why I came to London last year during the Olympics. That’s why I came this year to Wimbledon. And that’s why I hope I can come back as many times as possible. Because I love this country and I love the people of this country. And I don’t want to see anybody perish in their sin.

LR: And [unclear] just about the cultural context. Some people might want to say, well that’s America that’s more religious. This country is less religious. What would you have to say?

Well, certainly regarding the issue at hand there’s no difference between our two countries, culturally. I’m not uninformed as to where your country is regarding this issue because my country is in the same place. And the message I brought today, and the message I’ve brought about many different subjects are no different than the messages I preach to the people in my own country. Because the issues are all the same.

    Okay, fair enough. Yeah, happy?

    LR: Yeah.

Okay, as I’ve said, I’ve got nothing else to ask you. Obviously I’ve covered everything I need to cover. We’ll just establish that you don’t feel like you’ve done anything wrong. You’ve come over here, you’ve come to share your love of God. You’ve come to share, to preach the Gospel to people…

    All people.

Yeah, certainly not going to say that it’s only certain people. And you know, you feel that what you’ve done is not necessarily upsetting people but in fact helping people. Would you agree with that?

    Yes.

So, I appreciate your views on it. Okay. Is there anything else you wish to say?

    Not at this time.

Okay, brilliant. In that case, this interview is concluded at 21:34, on the first of July 2013.

    [End.]

YMCA OF AUSTIN, TEXAS KICKS OUT PRO LIFE STUDENTS

KICKED OUT OF THE SHOWERS BY THE YMCA

The Students for Life of America, http://studentsforlife.org/, were abruptly told to leave the Austin, Texas YMCA where they had been permitted to shower at night while they were in Austin for their support of the new abortion bill, at least until pro-abortionists complained about them. Some of the complaints apparently came from some pro-abortion staff members of the YMCA.
The Austin YMCA issued a statement:
    Full Text of statement below:
“Statement Regarding Shower Usage at TownLake YMCA
A story was issued by Fox News Radio today about a misunderstanding that occurred between YMCA of Austin staff and a group of students from the organization Students for Life.
In light of discussion surrounding the issue, the YMCA of Austin is seeking to clarify our position on the matter.
As a volunteer-led nonprofit organization, it is not our intention to inject ourselves into this issue, nor do we take a position on this issue.
We strive to create an atmosphere that is welcoming to all, where people of all backgrounds are comfortable.
That’s what we were striving to do in accommodating the Students for Life group who were in need of a place to shower.
Unfortunately, in this instance, it caused the political debate to come into the Y.
If any person or group enters our facilities and creates an atmosphere that is disruptive, we have an obligation to our members and program participants to ask that person or group to leave or to refuse them access.
There are appropriate places in which to conduct a political debate, and that place is down the street at the State Capitol, not at our YMCA.
We are working directly with Students for Life to find a solution that is acceptable to all parties.”

As the YMCA distances itself from its “Christian” roots in its striving to be culturally relevant, what we have now is a so-called non-profit organization catering to people of all faiths and/or no faith. It has been a catalyst for the spread of Hindu yoga and Buddhist mindfulness to adults and children within its facilities. It is a cash cow for paid administrators at headquarters and equally as much at the local level. The YMCA is clearly NOT led by volunteers, as shown below in their IRS Form 990.

The top officers of the YMCA are not listed on their national headquarters website http://www.ymca.net/organizational-profile, despite their alleged altruistic and open corporate image of community focus, betterment, and transparency. If the YMCA is open and transparent, why are these officers hiding their phone numbers and e-mail addresses from the public and instructing the customer service representatives to block all complaints and concerns from reaching them?
Neil Nicholl is the AMI 2012 Keynote Speaker in the YouTube video below, describing the benefits, opportunities and responsibilities of “non-profit service”, but not before he decries unnamed people with firm, fixed dogmatic beliefs (such as Bible believing pro-life Christians, for example). It would seem to be a charge leveled at those inflexible types who can’t get with the collectivist culture of non-profits such as the YMCA.
“Uploaded on Jan 30, 2012 at:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcUaLur0LYY

Neil leads an organization that serves 21 million children and adults at nearly 2,700 YMCAs nationwide. All told, more than 10,000 communities across the country have a Y. The Y is also one of the nation’s largest nonprofit employers with approximately 250,000 staff across the country. The Y’s staff and volunteers are all committed to strengthening the foundations of our communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, community by community.”
It would seem that the more “community focused” the YMCA becomes, the more collectivist its philosophy and mindset all through the ranks, which is clearly and presently at odds with biblical Christianity.

OBAMA’S UNIVERSAL GAY EQUALITY REJECTED IN SENEGAL AND KENYA~PRESIDENT KENYATTA BOLDLY DECLARES KENYA “A GOD FEARING NATION”

    SENEGAL, AFRICA:
June 28 – Barack Obama and Macky Sall do not see eye to eye when it comes to gay marriage. The Senegalese President made that clear during the American leader’s visit. Sall assured Obama that Senegal is a tolerant race – but says gay marriage is not on the agenda.

The president of Senegal said in a smart and simply way that his Country is not ready yet for that and beside it’s a Cultural matter like the death penalty in US.

    KENYA, AFRICA:
A young person from Kenya reminds Obama on the importance of upholding and appreciating the African Value System . This emanates from the recent tendency of Obama supporting gay issues and more recently trying to market gay values in the African continent during his first stop at Senegal.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3a7t5tU9eY.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have waded into the gay rights debate triggered last Friday when us president barrack Obama spoke about it in Senegal. Uhuru and Ruto, though speaking in separate religious events today, both insisted that Kenya is a God-fearing nation and will uphold religious values.

ON MY HONOR ANNOUNCES NEW CHRISTIAN NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR BOYS

    For Immediate Release
    July 9, 2013
    Washington, DC
Good afternoon. My name is Rob Green. I am from Spartanburg, South Carolina and I will be the interim Executive Director of a new national youth character development program for boys.
    Louisville Meeting:
On Saturday, June 29, 2013 a landmark meeting occurred in Louisville, Kentucky. Nearly 50 leaders from around the country came together, each with a strong interest in forming a new scouting-like organization for young men.  We had veteran scout leaders, representatives from major faith denominations, and national organizations concerned with youth and families. From that meeting, held less than two weeks ago, the new organization we are announcing today was formed.
    What is the new program?
Our vision is to be the premier national character development organization for young men which produces Godly and responsible husbands, fathers, and citizens.
The new program will be an exciting and motivating outdoor-based program focused on leadership and character development for boys, and founded on principles and values that reflect a Christian worldview.
It will be open to all boys irrespective of race, religion, ethnicity, or national origin. Parents from all faiths are welcome to place their children in the program. While boys may come from every religious background, adult leaders in the program – from the National Board level to individual unit volunteers – will adhere to a standard statement of Christian faith and values.
The program and themes will teach practical life skills, an appreciation for the outdoors, service to others, leadership, and character development.
The new organization’s name is currently in development and undergoing an extensive process of legal research and trademark protection. The organizational structure and primary programs are also currently being developed.
    The Mission
Our mission is simple and clear: to guide generations of courageous young men to honor God, lead with integrity, serve others, and experience outdoor adventure.
Our initial national convention will be held in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday and Saturday, September 6 and 7, 2013.
At the convention the organization’s name, logo and branding information will be unveiled along with other program details.
In late November of this year the registration process for chartering new units will be announced along with a transition plan for scouting units interested in the new organization. We will be distinctly different from the Boy Scouts although there will be some similarities. For instance, rank advancements earned within the BSA will be transferable.
In addition, the organization’s membership policy will focus on sexual purity rather than sexual orientation. The policy will read, in part: “the proper context for sexual relations is only between a man and a woman in the covenant of marriage.”
The new organization will be ready to launch on January 1, 2014.
    Coalition Partners
There are several national and regional groups working together as a coalition together to form the new organization. They include:
    • OnMyHonor.net
    • Faith Based Boys
    • TrailHead USA
    • Frontier Service Corps
The program will also be modeled after that of the American Heritage Girls. It is our goal to work closely with them to provide Godly, character building programs for our country’s young men and women. American Heritage Girls has been in existence for 18 years and offers a wealth of experience and structure which will help our new national boys organization grow and flourish.
Thank you for standing with us.
    On my honor,
    John Stemberger
    Founder of OnMyHonor.Net
    Rob Green
    Interim Executive Director

GIRL SCOUTS MARCH FOR FIRST TIME IN SAN FRANCISCO GAY PRIDE PARADE 2013

Life Site News reported that over 90 girl scouts marched in the San Francisco, California Gay Pride parade.
    See: http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/girl-scouts-march-in-san-francisco-gay-pride-parade.
    Excerpts:
Christy Volanski, also expressed concerns about what the young Girl Scouts may have been exposed to at the parade. She said that given the Girl Scouts pledge to “build girls of courage, confidence and character,” she was “really surprised” that the organization would endorse participation in an event “that features vulgar male dancers dressed only in underwear,

a lesbian statue of liberty (courtesy of the ACLU float),

free condoms, (See: http://www.upout.com/blog/uncategorized/your-number-1-guide-to-sf-pride-2013/, which declares proudly: “Even in SF there are not many celebrations whose staple handout includes free condoms, lube, dental dams and rainbow buttons”), and more.
In 2011 the Girl Scouts announced that they would allow a cross-dressing seven-year-old boy to join the Girl Scouts.” (See: http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/crossdressing-7-year-old-boy-allowed-to-join-girl-scouts/).

PASTOR RALPH OVADAL’S UPDATE ON REFO500: “A POPISH OCTOPUS WITH A VERY LONG REACH”

Pastor Ralph Ovadal of Pilgrims Covenant Church, Monroe, Wisconsin, www.pccmonroe.org, has just released a consolidated and updated report on the Dutch REFO500, which has very little to do with the real Reformation and a lot to do with Protestant apostate ecumenism and the Catholic counter-Reformation. Below is the entire report unedited:

Hello, everyone; welcome to this special edition of the Heart of the Matter. For quite sometime now, a few of us, a precious few of us, have been very concerned about a large, well organized, very far-reaching organization called Refo500. I hope you will take the time to listen well to this documentary, which is an in-depth look at a very deep well of ecumenical corruption, which is in truth nothing less than an instrument of popery, part and parcel of the strategy conceived and announced by Vatican II, and which has been so successfully carried out now for almost fifty years. I have spoken many times about that strategy, and I have written on it as well. It is hard not to speak on it now, but there are many facts I need to set before you in the next hour or so.

Thus, I am going to only give you two quotes from two different Vatican II documents. These are things to keep in mind as we progress with this documentary.
Concerning “ecumenical dialogue” with “non-Catholic communities,” especially, of course, evangelical Christians–this ecumenical dialogue which is at the heart of the Vatican II ecumenical cooperation strategy–we have this, that it serves to transform modes of thought and behavior and the daily life of those Communities [that is, non-Catholiccommunities]. In this way, it aims at preparing the way for their unity of faith in the bosom of a Church one and visible: thus ‘little by little,’ as the obstacles to perfect ecclesial communion are overcome, all Christians will be gathered, in a common celebration of the Eucharistinto that unity of the one and only Church which Christ bestowed on His Church from the beginning. This unity, we believe, dwells in the Catholic Church as something she can never lose . . .'” And of course, that is the Roman Catholic Church.

And then we have this: “ecumenical cooperation is a true school of ecumenism, a dynamic road to unity. Unity of action leads to the full unity of faith:‘Through such cooperation, all believers in Christ are able to learn easily how they can understand each other better and esteem each other more, and how the road to the unity of Christians may be made smooth.‘”Concerning “ecumenical dialogue” with “non-Catholic communities,” especially, of course, evangelical Christians–this ecumenical dialogue which is at the heart of the Vatican II ecumenical cooperation strategy–we have this, that it serves to transform modes of thought and behavior and the daily life of those Communities [that is, non-Catholic communities].
The purpose of this special Heart of the Matter program is to give a much more in-depth report on Refo500 than we have ever done before, either on this program or in several articles in which Refo500 was not the sole subject. Those articles and at least one of the programs caused quite a bit of controversy and brought us a good deal of vitriolic criticisms. You can find the articles on our church web site at www.pccmonroe.org.
Refo500 is a very large topic; but I will strive to present enough information in the next hour or so to give the listener an understanding of the true, evil nature of Refo500, and in that, plenty of reason as to why faithful ministers, and all faithful Christians, must separate entirely from Refo500 or be in disobedience to the word of God and acting contrary to the honor of Christ Jesus, the good of His blood-bought flock, and the true faith once delivered unto the saints. We are going to close out this program with a brief commentary by my good friend Rev. Ivan Foster, a long-time, faithful contender for the faith once delivered unto the saints.
We do not expect to be widely commended for this program since names by necessity in such a warning must be named. We are not out to “get” anyone any more than we have any interest in being respecters of persons. Our concern is for the honor of Christ Jesus who purchased us with His own blood, Christ Jesus and the authority of His word and the well-being of His own blood-bought church. This is what we’re concerned with.
Now, I am a minister, a preacher of the word of God; but this particular program is a documentary, a fact-filled documentary. It is a rebuttal to those who have insisted ministers of Christ can be a part of Refo500. We are going to lay on the table exactly what Refo500 is. As a minister, I have preached many times on biblical separation, but today my aim is to expose and document as much as possible, in the time we have, the nature of Refo500. It is a cage of unclean birds; it is a haunt of Roman Catholics, apostate Protestants, and a few high-profile Reformed ministers who are sound in basic doctrine, but they are deeply, dangerously, treasonously, we might say, corrupted in practice.
    03
With those men in mind, allow me to give you a quote from Charles Spurgeon, a minister who, unlike some Reformed ministers whose names you will be hearing soon, would have had nothing to do with Refo500, but rather he would have exposed it and rebuked it. This is from Spurgeon’s morning sermon at the Metropolitan Tabernacle on October 7th, 1877. This is what he said during that sermon: “I know what would happen if we feared God more: we should sooner die than remain in any fellowship with popery. Every man who saw any fear of his being found in complicity with Antichrist would at once say, I will not have it. Popery is abhorred of the Lord, and they who help it wear the mark of the beast. I hate Antichrist, and therefore I denounce it and cry, Down with it, raze it even to the ground. Everything that is of the Pope and popery would soon be put aside if men were but true to their consciences and their God.” And what can I say but, “Amen and amen,” to what Charles Spurgeon said?
    Refo500: Some Foundational Facts
Refo500 is nothing less than a religious conglomeration reeking of Jesuitical intrigue. It is an ecumenical stewpot of Roman Catholic and, speaking in the general and broadest sense, Protestant churches, organizations, seminaries, and various institutions. The leadership of Refo500 includes both Roman Catholics and Protestants.
    32
The title Refo500 refers to the 500th anniversary of what is known as the beginning of the Protestant Reformation, that is, when Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. However, the name is very deceptive. The reality, as is clear from the Refo500 official web site, is that Refo500 is about many so-called reformations of the 16th Century, including Rome’s Counter-Reformation and the Council of Trent, which are discussed and analyzed in a very favorable light at various Refo500 events, including but certainly not limited to those hosted by Roman Catholic Refo500 partners, some of which I will list in a couple of minutes. But here is a quote off of the official Refo500 web site: “On the Roman Catholic side, the Counter-Reformation is considered as a consequence of the Catholic reform. In the latter case, one should consider that the church requires constant focus upon inner renewal to realize the Catholic [of course, that’s Roman Catholic] ideal of life. As far as the Counter-Reformation is concerned, the Church had to maintain these in the struggle against Protestantism. The Council of Trent (1546-1563) occupies an important place in the history of the Counter-Reformation. It was, on one hand, preoccupied with the renewal of the church, but on the other hand, the various decisions reached that take the doctrine and ecclesiastical practice concern setting themselves against the Reformation again.”
Also off the official Refo500 web site we have this: “Partners are free to bring their own projects into Refo500, giving their own interpretation of the term Reformation.”
And we have this: “Out of the Reformation of the 16th century many Protestant churches did indeed arise. This movement also had a significant impact upon the Roman Catholic church. Out of the Reformation, the Roman Catholic church also recognizes namely their own Roman Catholic reform (which is also known as the counter-Reformation). Refo500 also focuses on the Roman Catholic reform.
As we get started here, I do want to mention that all documentation presented in this program is accurate as of the date this program airs, and it has also been preserved.
Now, I want to read just a few more telling excerpts from the Refo500 web pages which tell about the organization, its nature, make-up, philosophy, aims, vision, partners, mission, and so forth. These are in-context excerpts, representative of much, much more of the same sort of statements. Remember, Refo500 is a deeply ecumenical organization. So a few more excerpts from the Refo500 page which contains basic information about this ecumenical, in truth Romish octopus with many and far-reaching tentacles. The octopus, you know, uses its tentacles to grip its victims and pull them in toward its mouth in order to bite them with a poisonous bite. But, enough of metaphor, here are some additional excerpts from Refo500; I’m just going to read these excerpts; I won’t tell what heading each one comes under to save time–just excerpts:
. . . the foundations [that is, Refo500 Foundation] goal is to function as a platform for meetings and cooperative ventures for partners . . .” Now remember, Roman Catholic and Protestant partners.
The foundation aims at: . . . (helping) . . . to create a platform and/or network of cooperation, consultation, and information exchange, with one another in the broadest sense.”
The partners collaborate upon the programs of Refo500 . . .
Refo500 . . . helps people to understand the meaning of the Reformation, to discover the relevance of the Reformation, and to see and experience the influence of the Reformation in several spheres. [Remember, when theyre talking Reformation, theyre talking about also the Counter-Reformation.] It pursues this exciting venture in a contemporary and fresh manner, with an open attitude towards the past and the present, towards church, culture, and society.”
Refo500 is working on this goal by creating an environment in which project partners can collaborate on the composition of the program and the products appearing within Refo500.
Under “Partnership Benefits,” we have a number of things, including “Access to an international platform for cooperation and growing.” It speaks here about working toward goals; the partners work toward their goals.
Refo500 desires to make connections between themes from the time of the Reformation to our own. Here are the key words: renewal, change, and central relevance.”
Refo500 focuses on a broad audience and desires to reach everyone.
Before we go any farther, I should perhaps briefly introduce you to Dr. Herman Selderhuis. The very accomplished Dr. Selderhuis is the director of Refo500 and president of the Refo500 Reformation Research Consortium. He is also the professor of church history at the Theological University of Apeldoorn; it’s in the Netherlands. Dr. Selderhuis is a Protestant, speaking in the general sense as we will often be doing in this report; he is a deeply, unashamedly ecumenical Protestant. He is very open about this by word and association. As to the former–that is, word–consider just this Selderhuis excerpt from a 2012 interview he did with the Religion and Liberty publication of the ecumenical Acton Institute, headed up by Robert Sirico, a Roman Catholic priest. The particular question was on the state of Christianity in Europe. Included in Selderhuis’s reply is this: “. . . Christianity as a way of life and a way of faith has a future and there are developments among young people. A perfect example is the young Catholic convention in Spain and the Pope attended the event there and hundreds of thousands of young people attended that Mass, and they were enthusiastic about it . . . now who will give us straight talk? Who tells us what way to go? There is a need for that and the Pope is preaching a clear message and young people are attracted to that.”
As to his associations, Dr. Selderhuis is apparently more than happy to speak and preach with Roman Catholics, as he does in official Refo500 functions.
Remember Dr. Selderhuis as we go along here. He is very, very active and engaged in Refo500, and you are going to hear his name again as we mention just a few of many Refo500 events and just a very few of the many Roman Catholics and Protestants involved in those events all around the world.
Now, it is important to understand that Refo500, from top to bottom, is spiritually, religiously, ecumenically rotten to the core and that it has been so, and very openly, from its very beginnings. There is no way any minister could involve himself in this organization without knowing what he was involved with, and there is no way any minister would involve himself in this organization if he was determined to remain faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ.
    Official Refo500 Opening in 2010
The official Refo500 web site contains a very short report titled “2000 People Visit Refo500 Opening.” This event took place in the fall of 2010 in the Netherlands. That’s the headquarters, so to speak, of the Refo500 worldwide organization; it was just tempting to say, “one world organization.”

    Priest Antoine Bodar www.antoinebodar.nl/biografie

Now for those with eyes to see, it is most revealing to consider those who were chosen to speak at this official and public opening of Refo500. Dr. Antoine Bodar was a speaker. According to his bio, this man was educated by the Jesuits, and he is an ordained Roman Catholic priest who currently spends about nine months of the year in Rome. In answer to the question of whether the Reformation was a mistake or progress, Priest Bodar replied in true Jesuitical fashion, “Because of reform [that is, certain superficial reforms in the Roman church]: progress; because of the schism [speaking here of those whom the Lord led out of the Roman church, saved, and gathered together in faithful churches]: a mistake.”
And quoting also from the Refo500 article: “Other speakers that evening, including Mr. Kees van der Staay . . . and Dr. Anne van der Meiden, called the church division after the Reformation a negative result. There was a positive evaluation also, for example on the part of Dr. Heleen Dupuis (VVD), who dubbed Protestantism and liberalism obvious partners.‘” So that’s a good thing; that’s a good thing she says. Well, yes, apostate Protestantism and liberalism are obvious partners; and that’s called “positive” at the Refo500 event here, the official opening event. I don’t have any information on the man I mentioned, van der Staay, and almost none on van der Meiden, other than he is a liberal Protestant.
    07
Dr. Heleen Dupuis, past chairman of
    the Dutch Association for Voluntary
    Euthanasia
     www.eerstekamer.nl
    /persoon/prof_dr_h_m_dupuis_vvd
Now as for Dr. Heleen Dupuis, this woman is involved in numerous, but not good, movements and groups, religious and political. In fact, she currently holds political office as well. She is emeritus professor of medical ethics, Leiden University, and she looms very large in the Dutch euthanasia movement, with all its horrors. In fact, she is the past chairman of the NVVE (Dutch Association for Voluntary Euthanasia). We do not have time to say more on Professor Dupuis other than to mention she holds a medal awarded to her by the Masons. Again, this is one of the people chosen to speak at the opening event of Refo500 in Europe.
The Refo500 opening event program also included a roundtable discussion with a couple of Muslims, Sadik Harchaoui and Ahmed Akgunduz. The first was from the Institute for Multicultural Development; the second was the rector of the Islamic University of Rotterdam.

     rituals for those
    committing suicide and for
    sodomite weddings.

    remonstranten .org/breda/brepred.htm

Another speaker at the Refo500 opening event was Dr. Christiane Berkvens. She is the emeritus professor of European culture at the Radboud University Nijmegen. She’s an author; she’s a “pastor” in the deeply apostate Remonstrant Church, which is a Refo500 partner I’m going to tell you about later. We talked about them on a previous show on Refo500 quite awhile ago. According to a translation of this woman’s web site, she’s titled Mother Superior. In that capacity, she performs various rituals, for instance for those committing suicide and for sodomite weddings. We have to move along, but this should suffice to define what sort of “Christianity” Dr. Christiane Berkvens practices and preaches. Again, she was another featured speaker at the official opening of Refo500 in Europe.
Three other speakers included representatives of the apostate, very pro-homosexual Protestant Church in the Netherlands (that’s a denomination). There were Roman Catholic speakers also, including Mariska Orbán-Haas who was also at that time, and still is, the editor of a publication called the Catholic Newspaper.
Two speakers at this event, this opening event of Refo500 in Europe–two speakers, one Roman Catholic and one an apostate Protestant–spoke on the use of social media to reach youth. Quoting now from the Refo500 report: “According to these speakers, Twitter and other social media appear to function as a means to reach youth. Young people are looking for role models, which also can be found through social media. The church must therefore put forth inspiring leaders.” “The church”–a Roman Catholic and a Protestant are giving this presentation–“the church.” It is obvious that this dangerous error is foundational to Refo500, that is that Protestants and Roman Catholics are all part of “the church”; and what is obvious is that Refo500 is an ecumenical tool of popery to corrupt the Lord’s flock, to further Romanize the thinking and understanding of evangelicals and bring Protestants home to Rome. Those Protestants involved with Refo500 are furthering the cause of Antichrist, the pope.
But I close this segment of our report on Refo500 with this telling last paragraph from that official report on the opening event of Refo500: “The Refo500 partners indicated that there was a great amount of interest among those who came by their booths. Many partners have also realized that Refo500 is a good platform to collaborate with other organizations, despite their differences in religious background.” Yes, indeed, collaborate with other organizations despite their differences in religious background, and the pope and the devil said, “Amen.”
    Official Refo500 Partners and Sponsors
I want to take now just a little time–and a little time is all we have for any one topic–and tell you about the official partners and sponsors of Refo500. These include a very broad range of organizations from North America, Europe, Asia, and elsewhere–Africa, for instance–including churches and seminaries and religious organizations, Protestant as well as Roman Catholic; and there is some Jewish involvement as well. There are also state universities and other secular organizations involved. As I talk about this, I’m talking about the specific partners and sponsors. There are other organizations, ministries, etc. involved in Refo500; they’re just not partners or sponsors.
Now, there are a couple different lists of Refo500 partners and sponsors on the official site. For whatever reason, they vary a little bit. What I’m saying is, several of the sponsors and partners do not appear on one list, yet they’ll appear on another list. It doesn’t mean they’re not partners and sponsors; they are. We know that by seeing how active they are in this organization. You can find a list for partners and sponsors by going to the Refo500 home page, and then click on “Partners and Sponsors” at the top of that home page. Then you can go to another list of the partners and sponsors by clicking also on the same page on “Who What Where,” and then you follow through on that, and you’ll find lists that way too.

From the John XXIII Foundation for Religious Studies, Italy
    www.fscire.it/en/who-we-are/

I am going to give you just a few examples of many official Refo500 partners, as of the date this program airs. And it is important to remember that there are also many individuals involved in Refo500 events who are from organizations and seminaries and so forth which are not official Refo500 partners, for instance, the Roman Catholic Notre Dame University. And one more thing: again, the information on present and active Refo500 partners, like all information I am sharing, is well documented; it’s checked and rechecked; it is the reality as of the date this program first airs.
Just a few then of the Roman Catholic Refo500 official partners and sponsors which are listed; they include:
    • the John XXIII Foundation for Religious Studies, Italy• the Jesuit Historical Institute in Africa, Kenya• the Catholic University Leuven, the oldest extant Roman Catholic University in the world• the Catholic Association for Ecumenism, Netherlands

The Jesuit Historical Institute in Africa, Kenya
     jesam.info/

Another organization we have here that we’ll put under Roman Catholic Refo500 partners is Boston Theological Institute, an association of ten theological schools. We’ll put this under Roman Catholic; these schools are Roman Catholic, but they’re also Jewish, Orthodox, or Episcopalian! So we’ll put it here, and we can put it a few other places as well, I guess.
Next, here is just a small sample of many of the Protestant Refo500 official partners and sponsors:
    • Beeson Divinity School, Samford University, USA, Timothy George, dean• Canadian Reformed Theological Seminary, Canada, Gerhard H. Visscher, principal• Crossway book publisher, USA• Fuller Theological Seminary, USA, Richard J. Mouw, president–the notorious Richard J. Mouw• Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, Dr. Joel Beeke, president, and Reformation Heritage Books, Dr. Joel Beeke, editorial director, both USA• Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, USA, Dr. Albert Mohler, president• United Theological Seminary, USA: This is a United Methodist seminary which boasts, “United is a seminary of The United Methodist Church that welcomes students from many faith traditions.”• The Providence Forum, USA• Westminster Seminary CA, USA, W. Robert Godfrey, president• Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, USA, Peter Lillback, president• The Remonstrant Church, Netherlands
    •
    Theological University of Apeldoorn
    20 22 25 26 29

As I alluded to earlier, there are official Refo500 partners which somewhat defy specific categories, such as the Ecumenical Institute for Inter-Religious Dialogue at the University of Trier; that’s in Germany. There is the Boston Theological Institute, which I mentioned. There is the Acton Institute for the Study of Religion and Liberty. The president of that is Robert Sirico–I mentioned this earlier–a Roman Catholic priest; but it is ecumenical with Protestants involved as well. We know that Lord Acton, of course, was a Roman Catholic, and so Acton Institute; but there are Protestants in this too; it’s headed up by a priest.
Now Witte Travel & Tours, headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, is the official North American Refo500 travel agency. The Witte Travel & Tours web site states: For more than three decades, Witte Travel & Tours has been designing and operating tours for pastors and their congregations, religious organizations, colleges and universities, scholars, historians, and family groups. Each tour is a made-to-order combination of religious activities, popular attractions, hidden treasures, and free time. Whether its a pilgrimage to a holy site, an in-depth study tour, or an adventure amid the beauty, history, and culture of a region or country, its a blessing on every level. . . . Witte Travel & Tours has arranged hundreds of tours for Reformed, Lutheran, Methodist, Catholic, Episcopal, Presbyterian, and Baptist groups . . . We see here that the Witte Travel & Tours web site documents tours to such places as the Fatima Shrine in Portugal and various other Roman Catholic sites in other countries, including other shrines.
In Europe, Terra Lu Travel, headquartered in Germany, is also a Refo500 travel partner. I told you that Witte is the official North American Refo500 travel agency, and it takes people all over North America and really all over the world. Well, you also have Terra Lu involved; Terra Lu is a Refo500 travel partner.Terra Lu specializes in “Faith Based Travel,” same as Witte Travel & Tours; and Terra Lu also includes trips to Roman Catholic sites. So, even the travel agencies for Refo500 are deeply, deeply ecumenical in nature.
Now, in that partial list of Protestant Refo500 partners and sponsors, you heard a number of apostate Protestant organizations, including, but certainly not limited to, Beeson Divinity School and Fuller Theological Seminary. The Remonstrant Church, really a denomination, comes under the heading of apostate Protestant. The Remonstrants, one of the earliest Refo500 partners, deny any number of the essential doctrines of our faith; and on their web site, they boast of such accomplishments as these: “The Remonstrants were the first church in the world to open marriage for same-sex couples. It did so as early as 1986. The Remonstrants were one of the first churches in the Netherlands to ordain women as ministers. The Remonstrants are open for dialogue with members of other Christian denominations and of other religions. They were among the churches that established the World Council of Churches in 1948.” These are the bragging points, so to speak, of the Remonstrant Church. The Remonstrants’s statement of faith includes this heretical declaration which denies the deity and penal atonement of Christ: “We believe in Jesus, a Spirit-filled human, the face of God, seeing us and disturbing us. He loved humanity and was crucified but he lives, beyond his own and our death. He is our holy example of wisdom and courage and he brings God’s eternal love close to us.”

    A Remonstrant Facebook posthttp://tinyurl.com/remonstrantsfb

And let me just quote a little more from the Remonstrants’s web site; here’s one: “The Remonstrant Church is a community of faith which, rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and true to its principle of freedom and tolerance, seeks to worship and serve God. Ever since their foundation in 1619 the Remonstrant Church has been a community of discerning, curious, freethinking people, where a high emphasis is placed on tolerance, freedom of faith and thinking.”
We have this about the Bible: Remonstrants see the Bible as a special and inspiring collection of testimonies. It testifies of people’s experience of a presence or absence of God in their lives and in the world. It is a special book, because its stories can still guide us today towards an understanding of how God and humanity can be united.”
Official Refo500 Launch in North America in June, 2010
Well, I have already spoken briefly of the 2010 opening of Refo500 in Europe. Now let me tell you just a little bit about the launching of the North American manifestation of Refo500. I will mention here that this is all one organization, and the main players are active on both sides of the Atlantic, all around the world, in fact.
I have before me an official Refo500 press release; it’s dated June 23, 2010 and titled North American Launching of Refo500.” It is relevant to note who was involved in that launch event, especially because they are called the staff and also the key North American leaders. Well, let’s read a little bit from that press release: “The North American arm of a multi-year project to highlight and celebrate the relevance of the Reformation as a movement of renewal and change was launched in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 21-22, 2010. Meeting at the Emory University Center for the Study of Law and Religion, Dr. Herman Selderhuis, the International Director of the Refo500 project (www.refo500.com), introduced staff and key North American leaders.
And then we have the various staff and key North American leaders mentioned. You have Dr. David W. Hall; they say here he’s the former director of Calvin500; he was appointed as the North American director for Refo500. You have here mention of Dan Hermen and Jan Peterson-Wayward of Witte Travel, Grand Rapids, Michigan. And then also you have Dr. Joel Beeke; in this case, they mention he’s representing Refo500 partner Reformation Heritage Books. You remember Dr. Beeke’s seminary is also a Refo500 partner. RHB and the seminary are currently found on the list one finds through the “Who What Where” link. On the main page of the English Refo500 site, three out of four links going to partner lists go to that list with PRTS and RHB included. Later on, you will see that Dr. Beeke himself is very active in speaking with Refo500. Here he is called in this press release–he’s not staff, so I guess, key North American leader of Refo500.
Let’s go on here. The Refo500 press release says, Project Leader Karla Apperloo summarized Refo500 as a project that wants to make connections between the past and the present, and also between partners working together. This Atlanta meeting shows perfectly how it works.
We have a picture included with the press release; it shows the following Refo500 personalities posed together at the 2010 North American launching of Refo500. We have Frank James, Dan Hermen, Herman Selderhuis, David Hall, John Witte, Joel Beeke, Karla Apperloo-Boersma, John Thompson, Jan Peterson-Wayward, Michael Haykin, and Bob Godfrey.

The First-Ever Refo500 Conference in North America in September, 2010
Now the first Refo500 conference which took place in North America–this would be the first conference now, not the launching–was held at the campus of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Now you know that Albert Mohler is the president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. This was held September 27–28, 2010. That seminary is also a Refo500 partner.
A report on this event is found on the Refo500 web site; it’s titled First Refo500 Conference in North America at Southern Baptist Seminary, September 28, 2010, Louisville, Kentucky, USA. Here is just the first paragraph of this Refo500 article: A growing international network of leaders, scholars, and pastors, focusing on the abiding significance of the Reformation, held an enthusiastic conference at the campus of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, September 27–28. The first North American Conference assembled numerous speakers to launch the movement, which will sponsor a robust series of events through 2017 . . .
Here is a little information from that Refo500 report and the conference schedule on the various speakers at the conference. As might be expected, Herman Selderhuis spoke. Dr. Joel Beeke and Dr. Albert Mohler both spoke as did Frank James of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary; Dr. John Fesko of Westminster Seminary, California; Erik Herrmann, Concordia Lutheran Seminary; as well as a number of other personalities. Those last three speakers, James, Fesko and Herrmann, I am completely unfamiliar with; that’s the first I’ve heard their names, as far as I know.
I am very familiar with the out-and-out apostate Protestant Dr. Timothy George, who was another speaker at this first Refo500 conference in North America. Dr. Timothy George is the dean and professor of divinity, Beeson Divinity School at Samford University, and he’s the senior theological advisor for Christianity Today. He is also on the editorial boards of First Things and also Books & Culture, and he’s currently the chair of the Doctrine and Christian Unity Commission of the Baptist World Alliance. It is an understatement to say, none of that is good! Timothy George, who likes to speak of Mary as the “Mother of God,” has also been very active in the International Baptist-Roman Catholic Dialogue and the Evangelicals and Catholics Together movement and documents. Timothy George also joined with the late Chuck Colson and the Romanist Robert George to co-author the Manhattan Declaration, which was made public at a news conference on November 20, 2009, ten months before this first Refo500 conference in North America at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Of course, Mohler also signed the Manhattan Declaration. Among Refo500 Protestants and Catholics, there are a number of Manhattan Declaration signers, and you would expect that, wouldn’t you?
There were other speakers at this first North American Refo500 event. I certainly do not know anything about a number of them; I know very little about Clifton Kirkpatrick of the far from faithful World Alliance of Reformed Churches. The title of Mr. Kirkpatrick’s message was An Ecumenical Celebration? How to Work Together with Fruit and without Frustration.” I have not heard or read that message, but I can tell you that the World Alliance of Reformed Churches for decades has been in ecumenical dialogue with a number of churches including the Pentecostals, the Orthodox, and more than any other church, with the Roman Catholic Church. The World Alliance of Reformed Churches has since that first Refo500 conference combined with another group to form the World Communion of Reformed Churches, which is no improvement whatsoever! Nevertheless, here is a quote from the web site of Mr. Kirkpatrick’s organization at the time he spoke at the Louisville Refo500 conference with the individuals I mentioned: Through international bilateral and multilateral dialogues, the World Alliance of Reformed Churches helps to foster deeper understanding and broader cooperation among different church families . . . So it is not too hard to imagine what the subject matter of Mr. Kirkpatrick’s message would be, that message he gave at the first North American Refo500 conference at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with Mohler, with George, with Beeke et al.
By the way, the Refo500 report on that conference also includes this: “Among the widely published authors for a book signing at the Lifeway Bookstore at Southern’s campus as part of this conference were: Herman Selderhuis, Timothy George, and Joel Beeke.” So they teamed up to sign, autograph their books together at the far from faithful Lifeway Bookstore.
Now, I cannot report on every Refo500 event and conference held thus in North America, or for that matter, Europe and elsewhere. Nor do I have information on every such event planned. But, I’m going to mention just two official North American Refo500 gatherings which have taken place.
A Theological Menagerie with Refo500 in the Thick of It
But first, I want to tell you about an event in which Refo500 played a big part but was not an official sponsor. In October of 2011, Refo500 took part in an event put on by an organization titled the Sixteenth Century Society and Conference. That is the actual name of the organization, and it also puts on conferences. The one in October 2011 took place in Fort Worth, Texas. Refo500 is a very large independent organization; it’s worldwide, just as I have described. But Refo500, along with a number of other organizations–Protestant, secular, and Catholic–are also affiliated with the Sixteenth Century Society and Conference. Now, this organization put on a multi-day conference, and Refo500 took part in it. This was back, again, in 2011. And in fact, they had a conference in 2012, I understand, as well, and Refo500 was there, but I have information on the 2011 conference. And it was quite a theological menagerie. Some speakers were from colleges, such as the Mormon Brigham Young University and the Roman Catholic University of Notre Dame. And then you had Fuller Theological Seminary represented, and you had Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary represented as well.
Here is a sampling of the titles of some of the many, diverse messages given during this particular conference; here we go: “Knowing God Through Dreams.” Here’s another one: “Professional Alliances: Whores, Petty Criminals, and Other Working Women.” Here’s another one: “‘Amongst those Beds so bravely deckt’: Isabella Whitney and the Construction of Female Narrative Authority.” You have “The Roman Curia and ‘Works’ of Conversion under Gregory XIII.” You have one called “Heavenly Witchcraft” which has to do, apparently, with “the Divine Feminine,” we’re told. Poetry and Mysticism: Women’s Catholic Activism under Hapsburg Rule.” You have “Stylizing Sainthood: The Beatification Process and the Autobiography of Agueda de la Cruz.”
One segment of the conference was titled “The Implementation and Interpretation of Tridentine Reform in Early Modern Europe”; so that’s the Decrees of Trent, and they call this reform. This segment included messages with titles such as “From Discipline to Mercy: Model Tridentine Bishops in Italy.” Here’s one: “A Jesuit textual reading of Christ’s Passion and Mary from the Ceiling Paintings at the Church in Antwerp.”

Now, it bears mentioning that this conference boasted both a Roman Catholic mass and a Protestant church service. But what of the Refo500 speakers; what about that segment of the conference? They were Randall Zachman, from the Roman Catholic University of Notre Dame; Benjamin Mayes, Concordia Publishing House (that would be Lutheran); and last, but not least, Dr. Joel Beeke, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary. Karla Apperloo-Boersma, the project manager for Refo500, was the chair.
Refo500 also had another section of the conference as well. The organizer of both of these Refo500 sections at this conference was Herman Selderhuis. The speakers of the other Refo500 section included a Norwegian and a Swede whose names I’m not going to attempt and then also Charles Cortright, Wisconsin Lutheran College.

The apostate Beeson Divinity School (Refo500 partner) was the host of a Refo500 Reformation Spirituality Conference November 1-2, 2011 in Birmingham, Alabama. The official Refo500 Internet promo for that event sports–and it’s not surprising–an idolatrous, very Romish picture of “Christ” on the cross. Speakers at this event were Carl Beckwith, Gisela Kreglinger, Timothy George (there he is again), Gerald Bray, Herman Selderhuis, Karla Apperloo-Boersma, Graham Cole, Piotr Malysz. This conference featured a “Vespers Service” and “Homily offered by Ed Hurley, Senior Pastor, South Highland Presbyterian Church, Birmingham, Alabama.
Now, on this side of the Atlantic, Refo500 events are not restricted to the USA. I’ve given you a couple, just a couple, examples of some of the events that have taken place; but they’re not restricted to just the USA on this side of the Atlantic. For instance, this past January 18-19, 2013, the Canadian Reformed Theological Seminary in Hamilton, Ontario, a Refo500 partner, hosted a special event called Your Only Comfort Conference. The speakers included Lyle Bierma of Calvin Theological Seminary, Herman Selderhuis, Jason van Vliet of Canadian Reformed Theological Seminary, and then again, Dr. Joel Beeke.
For our American listeners, I am going to mention here, based on the great many official Refo500 Internet documents we’ve read, we’ve researched, if I had to name the two Americans most involved in Refo500 here in North America and elsewhere, and right from the birth of the beast, I would have to say Dr. Timothy George and Dr. Joel Beeke. The latter, that is Dr. Beeke, appears to range far and wide, speaking at Refo500 events; I’ve mentioned a couple he’s spoken at. Of course, he was at the official launch of Refo500 in North America. But I say, he ranges far and wide. For instance, he was a speaker at the May 25-26, 2012 Refo500 Asia Annual International Conference at Chongshin University in Seoul, Korea. In a minute, I’m going to briefly fill you in on an upcoming Refo500 event, a big one and very much promoted, that will take place in Europe which Dr. Beeke is going to be leading and, of course, doing a lot of speaking during that multi-day event.
Due to time constraints, we need to then turn our attention, very briefly, to Refo500 events in other parts of the world. I have already told you about the official launch event for Refo500 in Europe. There have been quite a number of Refo500 events since that day in 2010. For instance, we could jump to 2012. February 9, there was an official Refo500 meeting in Leuven, Belgium organized by Refo500 partners, the Catholic University of Leuven, John XXIII Foundation for Religious Studies, and the Evangelical Theological Faculty. I doubt the names of the speakers at this event would ring a bell with many, if any, of you listeners. Suffice it to say, they were from those three organizations, two Roman Catholic, one evangelical, so-called. Some titles of the messages included “The Roman Lenten Synods of 1074-1075 and the Impact of the Reform Ideas of Pope Gregory VII on the Local Churches.” We have “Protestant Confessions in Ecumenical Perspective.” We have “The Critical Edition of the Vatican II Documents.” We have also “The Council of Trent Revisited.” Those are some of the names of the messages presented.

    -vernacular-bible-and-religious-reform.html

The Roman Catholic University of Leuven has been from the start a very big Refo500 player, already hosting a number of Refo500 events and with more in the works. We certainly do not have time to consider all those events and everything about them. But I want to just quote one telling statement from an official Refo500 promotion of a Refo500 conference which was held at the Leuven University from the 29th of November through December 1st, 2012. Here is that statement: In the religious developments in Northwest Europe, the Bible has often been instrumental, whether as a point of reference, as a stumbling block, or simply in and of itself.” The organizers of that particular Refo500 event were from the Catholic University of Leuven, the Netherlands Bible Society, the VU University of Amsterdam, Johannes a Lasco Library, Emden; and then also included was Refo500 director–here he is again–Herman Selderhuis, the man who seems to be everywhere.
A Few of Many Upcoming Refo500 Events
In scanning upcoming Refo500 events already being promoted, one finds Roman Catholic organizations and speakers; a great number of out-and-out apostate Protestants, organizations and speakers; and then also a few high-profile Reformed ministers and teachers–a few–who have the reputation of being solid as a rock in doctrine, but they clearly are badly corrupted as to practice.
We really do not have time to run through all of the other events which Refo500, on various web sites, is promoting, including a number of grossly ecumenical and, in some cases, heavily Roman Catholic events, including events favorably dealing with the Council of Trent. One of those upcoming events dealing favorably with Trent is titled “1563 – Heidelberg and Trent. Evangelical and Catholic Boundaries and Approaches.” That’s September and then also in October of 2013. It’s put on by several “Protestant” institutions and the Ecumenical Institute University of Trier. A Refo500 promo says, “Above all, the central question is this: what boost for the ecumenical dialogue of Heidelberg and Trent went out?”
At least two upcoming Refo500 conferences are being sponsored directly by Jesuit organizations; I mean, they are, by definition, Jesuit organizations, openly Jesuit. But then again, this whole Refo500 ecumenical stew reeks of Jesuitical intrigue, doesn’t it?
In the time we have left, I’m going to mention one heavily promoted Refo500 European event since it’s going to be taking place in just short of seven weeks now and then also mention a strange Refo500 Train tour coming up, strange for a number of reasons, including the musical performers. And then we are going to have to wrap this very large, troubling subject up.
This July, the 11th through the 19th, Dr. Jason Van Vliet, Canadian Reformed Theological Seminary, and Dr. Joel Beeke, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, will be leading an official Refo500 tour through historic sites in Germany and the Netherlands. Of those speakers, Dr. Beeke seems to be the one most heavily, very heavily, promoting this tour–on his personal blog, on his seminary web site, and then also on his church denomination web site.
The tour is titled The Legacy of the Reformation. In addition to the tour guide leaders and speakers, the two I mentioned–that is, Dr. Jason Van Vliet and Dr. Joel Beeke–Dr. Herman Selderhuis is going to come around on the Lord’s Day morning of the tour, July 14, and preach; and then Dr. Beeke is going to lead the evening service, we’re told.
This particular Refo500 event, The Legacy of the Reformation, appears to be Protestant in nature. Some Refo500 events are Romanist; some are grossly ecumenical, mixing Romanists and Protestants and others; and some are Protestant. But all are part and parcel of the one corrupt whole. Of course, this is the seductive, Vatican II nature of Refo500. It is an absolute desensitizing, devil’s brew of truth and error, of Romanism and Protestantism. It is a your truth is truth, and my truth is truth; it is a smorgasbord of doctrine and ideologies. It is an eclectic religious, spiritual egalitarianism in action; it is a dialogue between supposed theological equals, per the Vatican II strategy.
Now, just a few words on this Refo500 Train tour which takes place in May of next year: it’s described as a “Rail Cruise to the Reformation Cities in Europe.” There are a number of speakers here; some are from other countries, such as South Korea. I’ll mention some of the names that are going to sound familiar to many of you: Timothy George–there he is again. You have Robert Godfrey, Westminster Seminary; you have Michael Haykin, of course the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. There’s Peter Lillback, Westminster Theological Seminary; and you have a number of others here. There’s Herman Selderhuis again, of course. So those are some of the men who will be on this tour; they’ll be doing the leading, and they’ll be doing the preaching.
    16
    Lost and Found www.speedwood.com/
A Refo500 promotion of the train tour declares its purpose to be “Travel, Ecumenical Fellowship and Knowledge.” Music on this train tour is going to be provided by a group called Lost and Found. Now, I am going to play you a sample of this group’s very bizarre music. Listen to this. Yes, you heard what you just heard. That’s from the group Lost and Found; and they’re going to be playing the music, providing the music on this Refo500 Train tour. It seems to me that bizarre music is just about right for the unsightly Refo500 conglomeration, no doubt cooked up by Rome.
But I want to mention just one more thing about the Refo500 Train tour next May. On the official agenda of the train tour is this: “Evening worship: Baptism Remembrance at St Peter and Paul Center for Baptism.” This is in Eisleben, Germany. So what is this baptismal remembrance which is on the Refo500 Train tour schedule here? I had never heard of such a ritual; perhaps some of you have. We did some research, and we found out that the United Methodist Church, the United Church of Christ, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America all use the baptismal remembrance rite. So what I am going to do is just read you some excerpts from an ELCA web site description of a baptismal remembrance ritual. There is going to be one on this Refo500 Train tour; it says, “Evening worship: Baptism Remembrance at St Peter and Paul Center for Baptism.” Let’s read this from the ELCA web site, a description of baptismal remembrance, of that ritual.
“Baptism is the foundational event that brings us into the community of faith and gives us our identity as God’s people. . . . There are times and occasions when the sprinkling with water of an entire assembly can provide a powerful sign and symbol for the affirmation and renewal of baptism. . . . It is a good thing for communities of faith to affirm their baptism at various times throughout the year. The most important time for the affirmation of baptism is at the Easter Vigil. On this night God makes new Christians, and those of us who are already baptized renew that covenant. Sprinkling with water . . . helps to emphasize and make real the affirmation and renewal taking place. The sprinkling usually happens after the assembly has responded to specific questions affirming their intention to continue to live as God’s people. As music is sung . . . an acolyte holding a bowl of water and the Presiding Minister move together throughout the assembly. The Presiding Minister may use a pine branch or a special sprinkler . . . The Presiding Minister dips the branch or sprinkler in the bowl of water as necessary. It is helpful for the Presiding Minister to sprinkle the water using a large arc-type action with the arm rather than just flicking the wrist. In that way large groups of people can feel the touch of the water at the same time. Some people have found it helpful to trace the sign of the cross on themselves as they are sprinkled, thus reminding themselves that they have been baptized into Christ’s death and resurrection. Some congregations, especially in new or renewed buildings, gather in worship spaces that are flexible and provide for easy movement of the assembly. An alternative to sprinkling in these settings is to invite the entire assembly to come to the font and renew their baptism by placing their hand in the water and making the sign of the cross or simply touching the face. . . . Other appropriate times for sprinkling are the Day of Pentecost, the Baptism of our Lord, and All Saints Sunday. It is also a powerful sign and a comforting gesture to sprinkle the coffin at the beginning of the funeral service . . .”
Now keep in mind that list of the Refo500 Train tour leaders and speakers. They were all Protestants, yet the itinerary of that Refo500 event includes that very Romish baptismal remembrance rite. But again, this is part and parcel of the rotten, deceptive, ecumenical heart of Refo500.
Between now and through 2017, there are already a great number of official Refo500 events planned, with more to be announced. Time just does not permit us to list, let alone speak about, any more of them. I do want to mention though, according to the official Refo500 web site, there is even a Refo500 Summer School coming up this summer. This Refo500 school is going to be held August 26-31–where?–at the John XXIII Foundation for Religious Studies. Among the teachers and teaching units will be Professor Violet Soen, Catholic University Leuven; she’s going to be speaking and teaching on the Tridentine decrees. You have a professor here from Bologna, the director, in fact, of the John XXIII Foundation for Religious Studies; he’ll be teaching on the Second Vatican Council. You have another teacher from the same place; he’ll be teaching on the Latin works of Benedict XIV.
    Closing Comments
We have focused on the organization, the nature, the personalities, and the events of Refo500. The Scriptures which plainly, clearly, forcefully forbid Christians from having any part in and with such an organization are plentiful. For instance, one immediately thinks of that passage in 2 Corinthians chapter 6, verses 14 to the end of the chapter, ending with “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” And of course, it’s very, very relevant to go on into that first verse in chapter seven: “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” We have been speaking about spiritual fornication here as we’re speaking about Refo500. Now, I have preached on biblical separation many times, and right now, time necessitates that I move to wrap this documentary on Refo500 up and bring things to a close.
Refo500 is a very real and present spiritual danger, a tool of Rome in her relentless quest to subvert the authority of the word of God, to desensitize the Lord’s people to Romish blasphemy and idolatry, to corrupt the Lord’s blood-bought church, to lure evangelicals into spiritual fornication, to overturn the Reformation. To those brethren who cannot seem to understand this, we say, in the words of the inspired Apostle, “O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?”
I have asked Rev. Ivan Foster, who shares my concerns over Refo500 and has stood with me together on this issue, to also share some thoughts in closing.
The text of Rev. Ivan Foster’s commentary at the conclusion of the Heart of the Matter broadcast, “A Popish Octopus with a Very Long Reach”The underlying spirit of Refo500

Paul the apostle, when speaking of the spirit of antichrist and rebellion at work amongst the nations said this to the church at Thessalonica: “For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way,” 2 Thessalonians 2:7.
Paul refers here to what I might call ‘the workings of the spirit of lawlessness’ which has been active amongst the nations since the fall of Adam.
The activities of this spirit of lawlessness is termed a ‘mystery’ because of its secretive, clandestine and covert enterprises. This is a spirit which stands in complete contrast to the spirit in which the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ functions.

    Openness marks the gospel.

It is written of the Saviour that He “went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people,” Matthew 4:23.
When on trial before the High Priest, He answered a question about His doctrine with these words: “I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing. Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said,” John 18:20-21.
There was no concealment, no cunning craftiness, no hidden agenda with the Saviour and His disciples. Paul says of the ministry of the apostles and early church: “Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; but have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God,” 2 Corinthians 4:1-2.

Craftiness is the way of the devil.

Hear Peter’s definition of the servants of the devil against whom he warns his readers. “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not,” 2 Peter 2:1-3.
There will ever be this contrast between the workings of God’s Kingdom and the workings of the devil and his agents. One is marked by forthrightness and plainness while the other is marked by secretiveness and underhandedness and deceit.
By bearing this in mind we may rightly evaluate the activities of the organisation called Refo500. It states its purpose in this fashion – and we quote. “Refo500 is the international platform for knowledge, expertise, ideas, products and events, specializing in the 500 year legacy of the Reformation. On the platform all kinds of partners from all over the world work together, to offer a program for a wide audience and to show the relevance of the reformation. Refo500 participants include Protestant and Catholic organizations, universities, seminaries, museums and so on. The platform is open to every organisation that agrees with the goal of Refo500.” However, Dr Joel Beeke would place Refo500 at the heart of the celebration of God’s wonderful work of grace in setting free the nations of Europe from the yoke of papal bondage. (See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTnWXnmYgB8).
But despite Dr Beeke’s claims, its evangelical leaders are working with papal institutions and organisations and these agents of Rome, in keeping with their ancient purpose, are clearly seeking to re-establish themselves as bona fide representatives of the Kingdom of Christ.

This is that spirit of which Jude warned.

“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ,” Jude 1:3-4.
Refo500 facilitates the “creepers” of popery and liberalism as they seek to turn the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Against such there must be the voice of a Jude raised to warn the flock.
Furthermore, against such there must be the work of digging and an uncovering that the prophet Ezekiel was directed by God to undertake in order that the hidden things of darkness be brought into the light.
Hear these words from Ezekiel chapter 8:6-12. “He said furthermore unto me, Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? but turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations. And he brought me to the door of the court; and when I looked, behold a hole in the wall. Then said he unto me, Son of man, dig now in the wall: and when I had digged in the wall, behold a door. And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here. So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, pourtrayed upon the wall round about. And there stood before them seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up. Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, The LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth.”
This work of digging in order to uncover the hidden things of darkness and dishonesty is a necessary labour in such days as these. The task of naming the guilty, as did Ezekiel, is commanded of God today.
Those who are of God will rejoice in the exposure of sin while those whose sympathies lie with the enemy will rage at the uncovering of the secret machinations of lawlessness.
There are some confused souls who dither and totter about in the ‘no man’s land’ of bewilderment and indecision.
Light as ever divides men as the dawn brings forth the creatures of the day while banishing the creatures of the night to their shadows.
Just what impact does the light of truth have upon you? Where do you stand regarding Refo500 and those professing ‘Fundamentalists’ promoting the sham that it is?
