Islamic Republic of Iran violently clamps down on Christians: Reports of torture, fines and floggings

“Make ready for them all that you can of force and of warhorses, so that by them you may strike terror in the enemy of Allah and your enemy…” (Qur’an 8:60)

“Iran violently clamps down on Christians amid reports of torture, fines and floggings,” by Benjamin Weinthal, Fox News, March 3, 2024:

Iran claims to allow the country’s Christian minority to practice its faith in peace. The reality for many Iranian Christians, however, is plagued by whippings, arrests, imprisonment, surveillance and harassment, according to a February report from the religious freedom NGO Article 18.

One shocking finding of the Article 18 40-page study, titled “Faceless Victims: Rights Violations Against Christians in Iran,” states, “By the end of 2023, at least 17 of the Christians arrested during the summer had received prison sentences of between three months and five years, or non-custodial punishments such as fines, flogging, and in one case the community-service of digging graves.”

The report noted, “Despite a comparable number of Christians being arrested in 2023 as in previous years – 166 arrests were documented in 2023, compared to 134 in 2022 – fewer names and faces could be publicized.”…

A State Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital, “The persecution of Christians and other religious minorities in Iran is longstanding and well documented. The U.S. continues to condemn these actions and use all the tools at our disposal to address such egregious violations.”

The spokesperson added, “The Department’s most recent Report on International Religious Freedom in Iran notes, ‘Officials continued to disproportionately arrest, detain, harass, and surveil Christians, particularly evangelicals and other converts from Islam, according to Christian NGOs.’”

When Fox News Digital asked if the State Department will impose new human rights sanctions on Iran’s regime for the persecution of Christians, the spokesperson said, “While the Department does not preview sanctions, Iran has been designated as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ and imposed Presidential Actions under the International Religious Freedom Act for having engaged in or tolerated particularly severe violations of religious freedom every year since 1999.”…

NYC Department of Education claims jihad just means struggle, doesn’t involve violence

SEE: https://www.jihadwatch.org/2024/03/nyc-department-of-education-claims-jihad-just-means-struggle-doesnt-involve-violence; republished below in full, unedited, for informational, educational, & research purposes:

No one with any familiarity with the Qur’an or Islamic tradition, as well as Islamic law, could honestly claim this. Yes, jihad means “struggle,” and there are as many uses of the word in Arabic with as many different connotations as there are of “struggle” in English. However, the primary understanding of jihad in traditional Islamic theology is warfare against unbelievers for the purpose of destroying non-Sharia governments and imposing Sharia.

This is clear from the teachings of the four principal schools of Sunni jurisprudence:

Shafi’i school: A Shafi’i manual of Islamic law that was certified in 1991 by the clerics at Al-Azhar University, one of the leading authorities in the Islamic world, as a reliable guide to Sunni orthodoxy, stipulates about jihad that “the caliph makes war upon Jews, Christians, and Zoroastrians…until they become Muslim or pay the non-Muslim poll tax.” It adds a comment by Sheikh Nuh Ali Salman, a Jordanian expert on Islamic jurisprudence: the caliph wages this war only “provided that he has first invited [Jews, Christians, and Zoroastrians] to enter Islam in faith and practice, and if they will not, then invited them to enter the social order of Islam by paying the non-Muslim poll tax (jizya)…while remaining in their ancestral religions.” (‘Umdat al-Salik, o9.8).

Of course, there is no caliph today, and hence the oft-repeated claim that the Islamic State (ISIS) and other jihad groups are waging jihad illegitimately, as no state authority has authorized their jihad. But they explain their actions in terms of defensive jihad, which needs no state authority to call it, and becomes “obligatory for everyone” (‘Umdat al-Salik, o9.3) if a Muslim land is attacked. The end of the defensive jihad, however, is not peaceful coexistence with non-Muslims as equals: ‘Umdat al-Salik specifies that the warfare against non-Muslims must continue until “the final descent of Jesus.” After that, “nothing but Islam will be accepted from them, for taking the poll tax is only effective until Jesus’ descent” (o9.8).

Hanafi school: A Hanafi manual of Islamic law repeats the same injunctions. It insists that people must be called to embrace Islam before being fought, “because the Prophet so instructed his commanders, directing them to call the infidels to the faith.” It emphasizes that jihad must not be waged for economic gain, but solely for religious reasons: from the call to Islam “the people will hence perceive that they are attacked for the sake of religion, and not for the sake of taking their property, or making slaves of their children, and on this consideration it is possible that they may be induced to agree to the call, in order to save themselves from the troubles of war.”

However, “if the infidels, upon receiving the call, neither consent to it nor agree to pay capitation tax [jizya], it is then incumbent on the Muslims to call upon God for assistance, and to make war upon them, because God is the assistant of those who serve Him, and the destroyer of His enemies, the infidels, and it is necessary to implore His aid upon every occasion; the Prophet, moreover, commands us so to do.” (Al-Hidayah, II.140)

Maliki school: Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406), a pioneering historian and philosopher, was also a Maliki legal theorist. In his renowned Muqaddimah, the first work of historical theory, he notes that “in the Muslim community, the holy war is a religious duty, because of the universalism of the Muslim mission and (the obligation to) convert everybody to Islam either by persuasion or by force.” In Islam, the person in charge of religious affairs is concerned with “power politics,” because Islam is “under obligation to gain power over other nations.”

Hanbali school: The great medieval theorist of what is commonly known today as radical or fundamentalist Islam, Ibn Taymiyya (Taqi al-Din Ahmad Ibn Taymiyya, 1263-1328), was a Hanbali jurist. He directed that “since lawful warfare is essentially jihad and since its aim is that the religion is God’s entirely and God’s word is uppermost, therefore according to all Muslims, those who stand in the way of this aim must be fought.”

The Shi’ites have substantially the same understanding. This is also taught by modern-day scholars of Islam. Majid Khadduri was an Iraqi scholar of Islamic law of international renown. In his book War and Peace in the Law of Islam, which was published in 1955 and remains one of the most lucid and illuminating works on the subject, Khadduri says this about jihad:

The state which is regarded as the instrument for universalizing a certain religion must perforce be an ever expanding state. The Islamic state, whose principal function was to put God’s law into practice, sought to establish Islam as the dominant reigning ideology over the entire world….The jihad was therefore employed as an instrument for both the universalization of religion and the establishment of an imperial world state. (P. 51)

Imran Ahsan Khan Nyazee, Assistant Professor on the Faculty of Shari’ah and Law of the International Islamic University in Islamabad. In his 1994 book The Methodology of Ijtihad, he quotes the twelfth century Maliki jurist Ibn Rushd: “Muslim jurists agreed that the purpose of fighting with the People of the Book…is one of two things: it is either their conversion to Islam or the payment of jizyah.” Nyazee concludes: “This leaves no doubt that the primary goal of the Muslim community, in the eyes of its jurists, is to spread the word of Allah through jihad, and the option of poll-tax [jizya] is to be exercised only after subjugation” of non-Muslims.

“Jihad just means struggle, not holy war – New York City Education Department’s training sessions try to whitewash Jihadi hate crimes,” OpIndia, February 29, 2024:

On Tuesday, 27th February, New York City’s Department of Education (DOE)’s training sessions for teachers on understanding and combating anti-Muslim bias sparked controversy as it propagated that jihad means “struggle” and “effort” rather than a synonym for holy war. Jewish Chronicle first reported the sessions that led to a divide among the educators and the broader community. The Jewish teachers who attended the session in question titled “Understanding Muslim Experiences and Combating Anti-Muslim Bias” criticized the portrayal of concepts such as jihad and the interpretation of Sharia law.

The DOE’s training sessions are part of a more extensive anti-discrimination program where educators learn about different concepts. In these sessions, the educators were informed that jihad primarily signified “struggle” or “effort” rather than being a synonym for holy war. The examples that were used to explain jihad included personal struggles for fitness or building friendships, which practically detached the term from its violent associations with extremist groups. “Jihad is the Muslim concept of striving in the path of God,” the host reportedly said.

As per the New York Post’s report, some of the examples of explaining jihad during the sessions included “My jihad is to never settle short of my best effort”, “My jihad is to not judge people by their cover”, and “My jihad is to build friendship across the aisle”. The portrayal of jihad neglected the complexity of the issue and the historical use of the term to promote violence.

Another educator told the New York Post, “Jihad may mean struggle, but it’s disingenuous to omit that it is commonly used to mean holy war and then to say that the media outlets who use it that way just control the narrative.”

Jewish educators and critics voiced concerns over the interpretation. One of the Jewish teachers remarked that such re-definitions have potential danger to society and said, “They are trying to normalize jihad, but we have to address the elephant in the room; that for many radical Muslims, it means violence. It’s like genocide doesn’t mean genocide anymore, and terrorist means freedom fighter. When someone hears a word like jihad, they now associate it with a struggle to go to the gym rather than violence. How will they be able to spot dangerous and violent ideologies?”

Their sentiments reflected a broader apprehension that DOE might want to inadvertently obscure the understanding of the radical ideology in the classrooms. Moreover, discussion on Sharia law during the sessions also faced criticism as it overlooked the stringent applications in specific regimes. For example, there are documented incidents of brutal punishments and human rights violations where Sharia law is in place. The moderators who conducted the sessions focused on personal religious observance of Sharia. However, educators attending the sessions felt they failed to address the complex realities and criticisms of Sharia law and its broader implications on society.

These sessions are being held in the aftermath of the Palestinian Islamic terrorist organization Hamas’s terrorist attack in Israel in October 2023, killing over 1,300 people, including women, children, elderly and foreigners. DOE has also planned workshops on antisemitism, but that does not mean that the department should be allowed to water down the real-world implications of jihad and Sharia law.

Jewish teachers living in New York City have reported that they experienced antisemitism and bias, underscoring the concerns about their safety. The lack of action from the administration over such behavior has led to a significant challenges for the Jewish community.

MyJihad campaign to ‘reclaim jihad’

The “MyJihad” campaign was conceptualized in 2012 by Ahmed Rehad [actually Rehab], executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Chicago. Reportedly, the aim was to reclaim the term from “extremists”. The campaign encouraged Muslims and non-Muslims alike to use the hashtag “MyJihad to reflect the “spiritual struggle” within. One of the phrases used during the campaign was “#MyJihad: modesty is not a weakness. What’s yours?” It featured a Muslim woman wearing a hijab and carrying a dumbbell.

MyJihad’s Facebook page has been running a “Free Palestine” campaign. Interestingly, CAIR is a Hamas-linked organization that has extensively worked on whitewashing crimes done in the name of jihad. In January 2023, the organisation asked the USA to stop using the term “terrorist watchlist” as it contained primarily Muslim names. In December 2022, CAIR‘s Ibrahim Hooper blamed “Hindutva” and “Islamophobia” in India after a mob of Muslims beat a Muslim couple for watching the Kannada film Kantara. It was propagated that Hindus beat up the couple, but in reality, it was a Muslim mob that attacked them….

Police State New Jersey: Muslim inspired by Oct. 7 massacre was ‘devoted to waging violent jihad against America’

“Nasr was prepared to kill and be killed to support the jihadist cause…”

Where did he get that idea?

“Indeed, Allah has bought from the believers their lives and their wealth, because the garden will be theirs, they will fight in the way of Allah and will kill and be killed.” (Qur’an 9:111)

“NJ man Karem Nasr inspired by Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack busted allegedly trying to join Islamist terror group in Kenya: ‘Prepared to kill,’” by Caitlin Doornbos, New York Post, December 29, 2023:

A New Jersey man who prosecutors say was “devoted … to waging violent jihad against America” and galvanized by Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack against Israel, was busted in Kenya earlier this month while en route to join Somalia-based Islamist terror group al-Shabaab, authorities said Friday.

Karrem Nasr, 23, of Lawrenceville, faces up to 20 years in prison after Manhattan federal prosecutors charged him with a single count of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

“Nasr, a citizen of this country, traveled from Egypt to Kenya bent on joining and training with al Shabab [sic] so that he could execute his jihadist mission of death and destruction,” US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams said Friday.

“Nasr was prepared to kill and be killed to support the jihadist cause, and in his own words, he described America as ‘evil’ and the ‘head of the snake,’” he added.

Nasr had moved to Egypt in July to study Arabic and became “particularly motivated to become a jihadi” after Hamas killed more than 1,200 people — including at least 33 Americans — in its October assault on southern Israel, FBI special agent Bilal Morgan wrote in court documents.

“In recent public social media posts, Nasr warned that ‘Jihad’ was ‘coming soon to a US location near you,’ posting airplane, bomb, and fire emojis,” Morgan wrote. “Nasr expressed his intent to join al Shabaab [sic] to receive military training and engage in jihad; that he was prepared to kill and be killed; and that he specifically aspired to be a martyr for the jihadi cause.”

Nasr planned to meet members of al-Shabaab, which has links to Al Qaeda, during his Kenya trip after engaging with an FBI source posing as a facilitator for terrorist organizations last month.

“After the Oct. 7 events, I felt that something has changed [for] the better, I mean,” Nasr reportedly told the source. “I felt that pride and dignity came back to the Muslims.”

Nasr further referenced the recent online spread of Osama bin Laden’s 2002 “Letter to America,” which garnered attention among TikTok users who claimed they had never heard of Al Qaeda’s complaints about the conflict between Israel and Palestinians.

“I do not know if you follow the news in the West, but there are a lot of people now in America, not Muslims, just reading the letter from Sheikh [Osama] bin Laden …” Nasr told the source, according to court documents. “And there are a lot of people, because of this letter, [who] have completely changed their opinion on him, and they finally understand how evil America is.”

Nasr reportedly offered to “write for any group that he joined” because he “could write well and knew how to translate,” adding that he also “wanted to train to ‘shoot’ with any [terror] group he joined,” Morgan wrote.

The defendant originally planned to meet the jihadists in Kenya in January, but Nasr told the source he accelerated his plans after learning his mother was visiting from the US in mid-December and wanted to take him “back to America to continue my education and work.”

“Parents nowadays have no interest in religion and they do not want their children to be mujahideen,” he told the source, noting that his mother did not know of his intentions to join al-Shabaab….

AOC likens Palestinians to Jesus in Christmas message, calls Israel a violent, occupying force

As a purveyor of the most hateful anti-Jewish propaganda, AOC goes to such an extreme that she has forgotten that Jesus was a Jew from the house of David, and that the region of Judea wasn’t renamed “Palestine” until a century after the time of Christ. Also, as it is succinctly put in a Jerusalem Post article: “Jesus’s homeland is under attack by Islamic terrorists.”

“AOC slammed over Christmas message about Israel-Hamas war: ‘Jew hate,’” by Melissa Koenig, New York Post, December 25, 2023:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez likens Palestinians to Jesus while describing Israel as a violent occupying force in an online Christmas post, prompting critics to slam what they call her blatant “Jew hate.”

In her Instagram story on Christmas Eve, the lefty New York Democrat shared a photo of a child in rubble in the Gaza Strip and said she is praying “for the peace and protection of the innocent in Gaza and the occupied territories.

“In the story of Christmas, Christ was born in modern-day Palestine under the threat of a government engaged in a massacre of innocents,” she wrote.

“He was part of a targeted population being indiscriminately killed to protect an unjust leader’s power. Mary and Joseph, displaced by violence and forced to flee, became refugees in Egypt with a newborn waiting to one day return home.

“Thousands of years later, right-wing forces are violently occupying Bethlehem as similar stories unfold for today’s Palestinians, so much so that the Christian community in Bethlehem has canceled this year’s Christmas Eve celebrations out of both [fear for their] safety and respect,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote.

“And yet, also today, holy children are still being born in a place of unspeakable violence — for every child born, of any identity and from any place, is sacred. Especially the children of Gaza,” AOC said…..

Hamas Calls for Violence Against Americans, and So Does This Michigan Imam

AP Photo/Bebeto Matthews
Could the war in Israel spread to the United States? Sure. Some people want it to.

Hamas has never made a secret of the fact that its goal of destroying Israel is just part of a larger jihad to conquer the entire world for Islam. And so it was inevitable, both in light of that aspiration and the Biden regime’s shaky but still subsisting support for Israel’s defensive effort, that Hamas jihadis would call for violence against Americans. What is more surprising, at least for those who have bought into the comforting establishment fictions that have been circulating since 9/11, is that one such call came from right here at home.

Hamas operative Sami Abu Zuhri recently proclaimed that Biden regime Secretary of State Antony Blinken, despite pressuring Israel to go easy on the warriors of jihad, was just as bad as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: “When Blinken is justifying the killing of women and children, the sons of our nation should say to him: You are the enemy, just like Netanyahu, and you must pay the price, just like Netanyahu. We should keep this in mind.” Yes, we should indeed.

If you’re wondering when exactly Blinken justified the killing of women and children, the answer, of course, is never. Blinken has actually parroted Hamas propaganda in warning Israel that it must do more to reduce civilian deaths, when in reality the number of civilians killed in Gaza compares favorably to the death toll of civilians in other recent conflicts, notably the battle of Mosul against ISIS in Iraq.

Nevertheless, Abu Zuhri wants to see American blood: “Now it is our nation’s turn to pressure the Americans to stop this war. We need violent acts against American and British interests everywhere, as well as the interests of all the countries that support the occupation.”

It’s hard to see how those who call for violence against people who have nothing to do with the conflict have the moral high ground, and those who are doing all they can to limit civilian casualties deserve the opprobrium of the entire world; we’d need an American university student to explain that.

Meanwhile, an echo of this call for jihad terror attacks against Americans came from a Muslim cleric, Ahmad Musa Jibril. Jibril, “whose hate-filled sermons,” according to a Friday report in the New York Post, “were said to have inspired the London Bridge terrorist attack,” is not in Britain, or in Baghdad or Balochistan. Jibril was born in Dearborn, Michigan, and while his current whereabouts are murky, the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) identifies him as a “Michigan Islamic scholar,” and the Twitter/X account that posted his call for jihad in America states that it is operating out of Chicago and is “managed by students.” Jibril, who did hard time in the Terre Haute Federal Correctional Complex for fraud, money laundering, unlawful possession of firearms and more, clearly has considerable influence among Muslims in the United States.

Contradicting the false narrative Americans have been fed for two decades now, Jibril declared: “Yes, there is holy war in Islam, it is jihad. This may be a surprise to many who grew up in the West, especially those who were born or grew up post 9/11, because of the growing number of hypocrites, who are spreading the American-Zionist Islam, and it has nothing to do with Islam, that version of Islam is and Islam that suits the enemies.” He added that “the one who has been spreading that there is no holy war in Islam, has been defecating heresy out of his mouth for the past 20 years, downplaying the legislation of Allah and the Islamic punishments.”

That would include virtually all of the prominent Islamic spokesmen in the U.S. As far as Jibril is concerned, the only people who had it right about jihad and Islam were the ones who were (and still are) vilified, marginalized, and silenced as “Islamophobes.” And now he wants Muslims in the U.S. to start taking this holy war seriously: “The Muslims in the West, especially the youth in the West, especially the youth in America, need to wake up. The current events are a wake-up call for Muslims to start normalizing mentioning jihad’s proper meaning, and putting it back into their vocabulary. Jihad must be a common, normal term on your tongues, on your social media, and in the mosques and elsewhere.

This should, he said, be a matter of lifelong indoctrination: “It’s time the mothers nurse their infants with the love of jihad and the ambition to become a mujahid and a martyr.” A martyr in the Islamic sense is one who acts upon Allah’s promise of paradise in the Qur’an to those who “kill and are killed.” America said Jibril, is “a vicious enemy of Muslims.” And so the import of his words was clear: Muslims need to wage jihad against America. While the Biden regime’s FBI hunts for “white supremacist terrorists” and Jan. 6 “insurrectionists,” some young men in America right now are heeding the words of Ahmed Musa Jibril.

Hamas Senior Official Urges Muslims: ‘We Need Violent Acts’ Against America ‘Everywhere’

REPUBLISHED, SEE: https://www.jihadwatch.org/2023/12/hamas-senior-official-urges-muslims-we-need-violent-acts-against-america-everywhere#

“We need violent acts against American and British interests everywhere”

While Muslim Brotherhood groups in America are calling for a “ceasefire” with violent urban riots, Hamas, another arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, is urging Muslims to attack America and the UK “everywhere”.

Sami Abu Zuhri, head of the political department of Hamas abroad called on a December 5, 2023 show on Al-Aqsa TV (Hamas-Gaza) for acts of violence against worldwide interests of America, Britian, and other countries that support Israel.

“So if our nation thinks that the heroic acts of Al-Qassam Brigades release it from its responsibility – that is a misconception and a mistaken assessment that should be discarded. The Al-Qassam Brigades are doing what they must do, and the people of Gaza are as steadfast as they must be.

“Now it is our nation’s turn to pressure the Americans to stop this war. We need violent acts against American and British interests everywhere, as well as the interests of all the countries that support the occupation.”

When Abu Zuhri says “nation”, he doesn’t mean the “Palestinians”, he means the Islamic nation. This is a call for a worldwide Jihad against America. That’s a bit redundant considering all the previous calls for Jihad against America. But it’s an important reminder that supporters of Hamas are all potential terrorists who are a national security threat to the United States.

Not a single individual who supports any Islamic terrorist groups, whether it’s in Europe, Israel, India, Russia, China or anywhere else. Islamic terrorists play divide and conquer, they tell us that the terrorists they support abroad have no impact on America.

Islamic terrorists and their supporters are part of this “nation” of the Islamic global order. Those who support any Islamic terrorists anywhere are our enemies.

FBI Issues Warning To Americans Regarding ‘Lone Actor Violence’ During Holiday Season

OAN’s Brooke Mallory
6:26 PM – Wednesday, December 13, 2023

REPUBLISHED, SEE: https://www.oann.com/newsroom/fbi-issues-warning-to-americans-regarding-lone-actor-violence-during-holiday-season/

In light of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and rising tensions, the FBI alerted Americans on Tuesday about the possibility of violence committed over the holidays by lone actors.

A public service announcement was released by the FBI, DHS, and National Counterterrorism Center, expressing that the conflict could likely increase “the threat of lone actor violence targeting large public gatherings throughout the winter.”

The FBI warned that large crowds over the holidays could serve as a “convenient target” for individuals who are motivated to carry out acts of violence against populations who identify as Jewish, Christian, or Muslim. Arabs were also included in the statement.

“Calls for violence may increase in the days leading up to the holidays and before other notable events this winter,” the announcement states. “Factors that could further exacerbate the threat of violence include escalations in the conflict between Israel and HAMAS and notable instances of violence in the Homeland inspiring copycat or retaliatory attacks.”

“We therefore urge everyone to remain vigilant and to report any threats of violence or suspicious activity to law enforcement,” the announcement continues.

The agency explained that after Hamas’s unexpected attack on Israel on October 7th, which claimed the lives of over 1,200 people, there has been an increase in “potential hate crimes or other criminal violations.”

The notice also said that shootings and false bomb threats against synagogues nationwide had increased.

Additionally, FBI Director Christopher Wray maintained that there was no “specific plotting activity” behind the release. The warning went into detail on how multiple targets could “likely remain attractive to lone actors” due to the many ideologies involved.

Since the start of the conflict, the FBI has investigated 60 percent more hate crimes nationwide, many of which target the Jewish community, according to remarks made by Wray last week.

He said that there have been more demands for violence against the United States and that the FBI is trying to stop possible assaults motivated by Hamas apologists.

“Given the steady drumbeat of calls for attacks by foreign terrorist organizations since Oct. 7, we’re working around the clock to identify and disrupt potential attacks by those inspired by Hamas’s horrific terrorist attacks in Israel,” Wray said in an appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week.

Hamas Leader Says October 7 Was ‘Just A Rehearsal’, More Violence To Come

The leader of the Hamas terrorist group, Yahya Sinwar, warned that the massacre on October 7th was “just a rehearsal” for future strikes on Israel.

On Thursday, Hamas group leader Yahya Sinwar made his first public announcement in Gaza since the Islamic terrorist organization launched an attack on Israel on October 7th, killing over a thousand people and abducting hundreds more.

In his statement, Sinwar threatened that the group’s early October slaughter was “just a rehearsal,” for many more future attacks on Israel.

Additionally, Sinwar allegedly called for “indiscriminate killing” in his announcement, according to The Messenger outlet.

“The leaders of the occupation [Israel] should know, October 7th was just a rehearsal,” stated Sinwar, according to the Maariv newspaper.

In addition to the 1,200 people who died on that tragic day, nearly 240 men, women, children, and soldiers were held captive in Gaza, and many are still being kept as hostages.

On Monday, Israeli media outlets announced that Sinwar had visited many of the hostages who were being held in an underground tunnel in the Gaza Strip.

Egypt is believed to have applied significant pressure to Sinwar as Israel and Hamas made a deal to prolong their cease-fire in exchange for the release of hostages on Monday.

“Twice during the ceasefire, the parties got into a crisis when Yahya Sinwar tried to violate the agreements, the first time last Saturday night,” said an Egyptian source. “Egyptian intelligence officers arrived at the Rafah Crossing [to Gaza] and conveyed to Sinwar extremely difficult messages and threats peppered with juicy curses. A short hour later … the Israeli hostages were released.”

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) International Spokesperson Lt. Col. Richard Hecht announced to reporters that Sinwar and his terrorist group are “in our sights.”

“Yahya Sinwar is the face of evil. He is the mastermind behind this like [Osama] bin Laden was. He built his career on murdering Palestinians when he understood they were collaborators. That’s how he became known as the butcher of Khan Yunis [in southern Gaza],” explained Hecht.

In the past, an Israeli court found Sinwar guilty of several murder charges and he was given five life sentences, which he was initially set to serve out until his death. During his time in prison, he reportedly became fluent in Hebrew by watching Israeli television shows.

However, as part of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange, he was released from prison in Israel in October 2011, having served only 22 years.

Following his release from prison, Sinwar rose to prominence within Hamas, eventually defeating Ismail Haniyeh in an internal vote to take the role of leader of Gaza in February 2017.

Sinwar was given the nickname “the butcher of Khan Younis,” which referred to the southern Gaza city that he grew up in.

President Joe Biden isn’t letting a tragedy go to waste and is urging Republicans in Congress to help keep Americans safe from “gun violence” after mass shootings in Maine.

Speaking at a campaign fundraiser in Washington Friday night, Biden called for new gun control legislation in the wake of the mass shooting in Maine.

Biden reportedly asked, “Who the hell needs an assault weapon that can hold, in some cases, up to 100 rounds?”

In a subsequent post on Saturday, Biden promised to use everything in power to end the so-called “gun violence epidemic,” by “calling Republicans in Congress to fulfill their obligation to keep Americans safe.”

Biden’s renewed calls for gun control have been met with strong opposition from congressional Republicans and gun advocacy groups, including the National Rifle Association, a major lobbying organization strongly opposed to broad gun control legislation.

Some Republican lawmakers have argued instead for legislation to address mental health issues and limit gun access to people deemed dangerous.

In months leading up to Wednesday’s attack in Lewiston, Maine that left 18 people dead, the shooter, Robert Card was reportedly checked into a mental health facility after complaining of voices and making threats.

Card was found dead Friday from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
