Gavin Newsom challenges Trump’s Border Czar Homan to arrest him amid anti-ICE protests

CERES, CALIFORNIA - APRIL 16: California Governor Gavin Newsom speaks during a news conference at Gemperle Orchard on April 16, 2025 in Ceres, California. Governor Gavin Newsom and California Attorney General Rob Bonta have filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the Trump administration's use of emergency powers to enact sweeping tariffs that hurt states, consumers, and businesses. The tariffs have disrupted supply chains, increased costs for the state and Californians, and inflicted billions in damages on California’s economy, the fifth largest in the world. Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom has continued to add fuel to the fire in Los Angeles’ chaotic protests by daring the Trump administration’s border czar Tom Homan to arrest him for failing to stop the violence in Los Angeles.

“Come after me. Arrest me. Let’s just get it over with, tough guy,” the defiant Newsom (D-Calif.) told NBC News on Sunday.

The challenge by Newsom comes after Homan had warned that the Golden State governor and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass could both be hit with federal charges for trying to prevent ICE raids throughout the city.

“I’ll say it about anybody,” Homan said in a weekend interview.

“You cross that line, it’s a felony to knowingly harbor and conceal an illegal alien. It’s a felony to impede law enforcement doing their job. “I’ll say it about anybody.”

In response to the chaos, President Donald Trump deployed 2,000 California National Guard troops to the city on Saturday evening as Los Angeles Police and ICE agents squared off with anti-ICE protesters for a third day.

The Democrat governor, who repeatedly said that the 47th president would only make it worse, threw fuel on the fire after accusing the administration of using federal power for their own political gain.

“He’s a tough guy. Why doesn’t he do that? He knows where to find me,” Newsom told NBC.

“But you know what? Get your hands off 4-year-old girls that are trying to get educated. Leave your hands off these poor people. They’re just trying to live their lives, man. Trying to live their lives and pay their taxes. Been here for 10 years. The fear, the horror.”

“The hell are they doing? These guys need to grow up. They need to stop, and we need to push back. And I’m sorry to be so clear, but that kind of bloviating is exhausting. So, Tom, arrest me. Let’s go,” he added.

Additionally, Homan accused Newsom of spreading anti-ICE rhetoric in the wake of the violent chaos.

“We’re arresting bad people. We’re enforcing laws and following up on a serious criminal investigation on cartel financing. So that’s exactly what ICE did. And ICE took a lot of bad people off the street that day,” he told Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”

“We arrested a sexual predator, arrested gang members, arrested somebody that had an armed robbery conviction. So we made LA Safer.”

“The men and women of ICE, the men and women of the border control made LA safer that day, but you’re not hearing any of this. All you hear is a rhetoric about ICE being racist and ICE being Nazis and terrorists — and Governor Newsom feeds that,” he added.

Newsom stated that he will be filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration to stop the deployment of national guard troops.

“They had to coordinate with the governor of the state,” Newsom said.

“They never coordinated with the governor of the state.”

“This is about authoritarian tendencies. This is about command and control. This is about power. This is about ego,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Police Department has stated they are overwhelmed by the amount of protesters in the city.

Border Czar Tom Homan Reveals ICE Arrested 370 Illegal Aliens In Boston This Past Week

WASHINGTON, DC - MARCH 17: White House Border Czar Tom Homan talks with reporters on the driveway outside the West Wing on March 17, 2025 in Washington, DC. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reportedly arrested 370 illegal aliens in Boston, Massachusetts, and surrounding areas this past week — after border czar Tom Homan previously promised to “bring hell” to Boston.

Regarding Boston, Homan also warned in November 2024 that “if you don’t want to work with us, then get the hell out of the way." We’re going to do it. What it means is, rather than sending 100 people to Boston, we’re going to send 200 agents to Boston. We’re going to get the job done.”

Homan said that the most recent joint operation lasted for 5-days and included multiple agencies, including ICE, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), a number of U.S. Marshals, and the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service.

“I made a promise at CPAC that I was going to Boston after reading about the numerous illegal alien child rapists walking the streets of Boston and Massachusetts. ICE had to find and arrest these illegal alien rapists because Massachusetts and Boston are sanctuaries that refuse to cooperate with ICE,” Homan wrote in a Monday X post.

“They would rather release these animals back into the community rather than honor ICE detainers or notify ICE when they are scheduled to be released.  Mayor Wu later testified that I was lying. Well, I traveled to Boston last Tuesday, as promised, and we kicked off a five-day operation with ICE, FBI, ATF, DEA, US Marshals and DSS. These incredible men and women arrested a total of 370 illegal aliens in Boston and surrounding areas.  The majority of the 370 being significant criminals,” he continued.

Homan went on to explain that out of the 370 arrests, six of them were “foreign fugitives” and four of them were “wanted for murder or to serve a criminal sentence for murder, along with drug traffickers, child sexual predators and numerous other violent public safety threats.”

“These officers and agents have made the neighborhoods of Boston and Massachusetts much safer.  They risked their own safety by arresting these criminals on the street, rather than a jail. Governor Healey and Mayor Wu should be ashamed of supporting sanctuary policies.  Releasing public safety threats back into the public, rather than working with ICE at the jails, puts the public at great risk,” Homan added.

Homan’s condemnation of Boston Democrat Mayor Michelle Wu followed after she slammed him for criticizing the city’s police commissioner, who had released nine child rapists from jail. Boston’s “sanctuary” status, according to Wu, is crucial to ensuring that illegals in the city feel at ease and are thriving.

“I read a story last night that the police commissioner of Boston, you said you’d double down on not helping ICE law enforcement officers of ICE. I’m coming to Boston. I’m bringing hell with me. I looked at the numbers this morning; I stopped counting at nine. Nine child rapists who were in jail in Massachusetts, but rather than honoring an ICE detainer, released them back onto the street. You’re not the police commissioner; take that badge off your chest and put it in the desk drawer. You became a politician,” Homan stated at the Conservative Political Action Conference in February.

“President Trump’s ‘all of government effort’ to arrest and remove the WORST FIRST is making our communities safer every day.  President Trump is a Game Changer who is keeping his promises to the American people. Much more to do, but it will be done!”

EXPOSED: How Our Government Funded the Illegal Immigration Disaster | Tom Homan | Glenn Beck TV

Did you know our own government — using YOUR tax dollars — funded the illegal immigration disaster? While it was bad under President Trump’s first term, it ballooned into an epic disaster under the Biden White House. Even the New York Times had to admit it was the “largest immigration surge in U.S. history.” The Biden administration let in an average of 2.4 MILLION migrants per year during his first three years in office. But the new Trump administration is tackling the mess head-on with a deportation operation targeting dangerous criminals and restoring law and order at the border. It’s a promising start, but to fully dismantle the Biden policies that got us to this point, it requires pulling the plug on the insane funding of NGOs that drive the steady stream of illegal immigrants to the border. Most Americans are completely unaware of how vast the illegal immigration industrial complex is and how WE are funding it all. Glenn reveals a tangled web of corruption that shows how NGOs get paid BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars, which flow from the alphabet soup of federal agencies including the State Department, USAID, FEMA, Health and Human Services, and Homeland Security. President Trump’s no-nonsense border czar Tom Homan tells Glenn in an exclusive interview that he’s “very concerned” about reports that Mexico’s drug cartels are planning drone and explosives attacks against U.S. Border Patrol agents. He predicts there “will be violence on the border” and warns that if cartels hurt any federal agents or members of the U.S. military, President Trump will "rain hell down on them" and “wipe them off of the face of the earth.” He also has a message for anti-ICE politicians, like New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, who suggest they’re knowingly harboring or concealing illegal aliens: “It’s a felony,” and Attorney General Pam Bondi is watching.

Trump to appoint former ICE Director Tom Homan as next ‘border czar’: ‘nobody better at policing our borders’ Trump said Homan ‘will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin’

President-elect Donald Trump announced Sunday that he plans to appoint Thomas Homan as the next "border czar."

Trump made the announcement on his social media platform Truth Social.

"I’ve known Tom for a long time and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders. Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin. Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long awaited, job."

Trump added that the "border czar" position isn’t just for monitoring the U.S. southern border with Mexico, but also "the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security. I’ve known Tom for a long time and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders."

This comes less than a week after Trump secured his second presidency, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris, who was dubbed the "border czar" in the Biden administration.

Border security was a strong point of Trump’s first presidency, and it was a stalwart during both his 2020 and 2024 campaigns.

Illegal border crossings surged under the Biden administration, with nearly 3 million in fiscal year 2024, according to Homeland Security’s website. There have been more than 10.8 million illegal encounters since FY 2021.

Trump vowed during his campaign that he would once again take a hard-line approach to securing the border.

"It’s going to be a well-targeted, well-planned operation conducted by the men of ICE. The men and women of ICE do this daily. They’re good at it," Homan said during a Fox News interview on Sunday, adding that deportations would be a "humane operation."

Trump during his campaign referenced illegal immigrants as people fleeing countries that didn’t want them. He often said at his rallies that illegal immigrants flooded the U.S. with drugs and gangs, and that they became a hub for smuggling and human trafficking, saying they are "poisoning the blood of our country."

"They’re rough people, in many cases from jails, prisons, from mental institutions, insane asylums," Trump said. "You know, insane asylums, that’s ‘Silence of the Lambs’ stuff."

This is only the beginning of thousands of positions that need to be filled by his presidency. Trump has already announced that Susie Wiles, his co-campaign manager, will be the White House chief of staff.

Trump Taps Former ICE Director Tom Homan As ‘Border Czar’

President-elect Donald Trump revealed on Sunday night that he plans to appoint Tom Homan, who served as the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement between 2017 and 2018, as the next "border czar."

"I am pleased to announce that Former ICE Director and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration in charge of our Nation's Borders ("The Border Czar"), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump continued, "I've known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our borders. Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin."

"Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, job," Trump said.

In recent weeks, Homan gave one of the most balanced interviews on immigration to the far-left media outlet CBS News' 60 Minutes. When asked about the taxpayer cost of deporting millions of illegal aliens, he responded, "What price do you put on national security?"

At the Republican National Convention in July, Homan told Trump supporters: "I've got a message ... to all the illegal aliens in violation of federal law ... you better start packing now."

Homan recently torched far-left activist lawmaker Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez while on The Hill.

While Homan secures the southern and northern borders and oversees the deportation of illegal aliens, there will be significant moves by the Trump administration to disrupt and destroy the dark money financial and trade networks that have sparked the horrific 100,000 US drug death overdose crisis per year caused by fentanyl and other drugs - much of which starts as precursor chemicals shipped from China, cooked into fentanyl by Mexican cartels, then flooded into the Lower 48.
