Report: Helicopter Crash Over Hudson River Leaves At Least 6 Dead

At least six people have been killed after a helicopter carrying a family, two adults and three children, who were reportedly from Spain, crashed into the Hudson river on Thursday afternoon — according to the Associated Press.

The sixth death was that of the helicopter pilot.

Officials with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed that a helicopter was in the river as of 3:40 p.m. local time.

“Due to a helicopter crash in the Hudson River in the vicinity of the West Side Highway and Spring Street, expect emergency vehicles and traffic delays in the surrounding areas,” according to a statement from the NYPD.

In addition to the Spanish family of five, the pilot’s body was also found inside.

Witnesses informed the press that they observed the helicopter “split in half” before it crashed near Pier 40. Additionally, the aircraft was reportedly emitting a distinct “thudding” noise prior to its descent.

“I heard a loud snap … I looked over … and I could see the helicopter falling on its side and splashing into the water,” an unnamed witness told ABC7. “I didn’t see anyone come out.”

Currently, it remains uncertain whether the helicopter was operated for tourism purposes or privately owned. The cause of the crash has yet to be determined, as investigations are still in their early stages.

Rescue and recovery operations are still ongoing.

Online videos showed the helicopter sinking into the river as emergency teams rushed to the scene.

The chopper appeared to be a “N216MH – a Bell 206L-4,” according to Flight Radar.

More than 32 people have been killed in helicopter crashes in New York City since 1977.

Coast Guard Seizes Over $500M In ‘Cartel Cocaine’

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced a “major blow” to two Mexican drug cartels after the Coast Guard seized over $500 million in cocaine — amounting to over 45,000 pounds.

Bondi revealed that the seizure took place on Wednesday, after two Coast Guard cutters intercepted approximately $509 million dollars worth of cocaine from smuggling boats near Ecuador, Peru, and the Galápagos Islands.

“We have saved thousands and thousands of lives as a result of this incredible cooperation,” Bondi stated at Port Everglades in Florida, alongside FBI Director Kash Patel.

Bondi also revealed that the illicit drugs were tied to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and the Sinaloa cartel, noting that 11 individuals were arrested in the operation.

She continued, stating that the Coast Guard utilized “drones, aircraft, and ships to interdict the traffickers” in the operation.

FBI Director Kash Patel also spoke at the press conference. He issued a warning to other foreign drug cartels who continue their ongoing drug smuggling and drug trafficking operations.

“We are going to dismantle the ‘next-man-up’ theory that has been breeding these Mexican cartels for generations,” Patel asserted. “No more.”

The U.S. Coast Guard revealed that their efforts in finding the large stash took around eleven days, describing the process of locating the drug traffickers in the patrol area as “finding a needle in a haystack.”

The interagency effort led by the Coast Guard was also assisted by the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Over 130,073 pounds (59 metric tons) of narcotics have been seized since just February, according to U.S. Coast Guard Vice Adm. Nathan Moore.

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt threw shade at former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, highlighting previous comments that the liberal former Congresswoman has made about tariffs.

Leavitt cited Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) previous position on tariffs, notably the United States’ trade deficit with communist China, from nearly 30 years ago — arguing that she should be delighted with the Trump administration’s “retaliatory tariff” imposed on China.

In a recently resurfaced video from 1996, Pelosi stood on the House floor and explained her reasons for retaliating against China economically, including the fact that China imposed an average tariff of 35% on all goods imported from the United States and only allowed about 2% of US exports to cross the border into the country. In exchange, the United States had imposed only a 2% tariff on Chinese imports and permitted one-third of the items manufactured in China to be imported. As a result of that gap, 10,000,000 Chinese jobs were supported by imports from the United States, while only 170,000 American jobs were supported by Chinese trade. That, she added, was an untenable “status quo.”

“On this day, your member of Congress could have drawn a line and said to the President of the United States, ‘Do something about this U.S.-China trade relationship that is a job loser for the United States,’” she said at the time.

During the briefing, Leavitt referenced the clip and perked up, saying: “Nancy Pelosi said, ‘How far does China have to go? How much more oppression? How big is the trade deficit? How many jobs have to be lost for American workers? How much dangerous proliferation has to exist before members of this House of Representatives will say, ‘I will not endorse the status quo?’”

“Well, President Trump is finally answering her call,” Leavitt continued. “Nancy Pelosi can thank President Trump today for the 104% retaliatory tariff that will be going into effect on China.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has fired back at Democrat Representative Jasmine Crockett after she went after him for being in a wheelchair, citing that the Democrats have “nothing to sell but hate.”

The outlandish Texas Democrat lawmaker was slammed after she called Abbott “Governor Hot Wheels” on Saturday during a Human Rights Campaign dinner in Los Angeles, California.

In an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity” Tuesday night, the Texas Governor, who has been in a wheelchair since 1984 when a tree fell on his back in a freak accident, put the comments aside.

“It’s another day and another disaster by the Democrats. The reality is they have no vision, no policy. They have nothing to sell but hate, and Americans are not buying it,” he told host Sean Hannity. “It’s one reason why Texas is going to remain red.”

Crockett represents the Lone Star State’s 30th Congressional District, which covers parts of Dallas County and Tarrant County. Dallas County voted for Harris in 2024 by 60% to 39%, while Tarrant County went for Trump by 52% to 48%.

However, the firebrand Democrat responded to criticism she received on social media, saying that the comments had nothing to do with Abbott’s disability.

“I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition — I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transport migrants into communities led by black mayors,” she wrote in a statement on X. “Keep that same energy for all people, not just your political adversaries.”

She branded the argument “another distraction,” adding, “Instead of obsessing over and hanging on to my every word, maybe my political foes should focus on doing the work of the people who elected us to improve their lives.”

The Texas Democrat made the outlandish comments about Abbott at a dinner over the weekend.

“We in these hot-ass Texas streets, honey,” she said. “Y’all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there. Come on now! And the only thing hot about him is that he is a hot-ass mess, honey,” she went on.

Her comments caused an immediate backlash, with Representative Randy Weber (R-Texas) introducing a resolution to censure Crockett on Tuesday.

The resolution branded Crockett’s remarks “unbecoming of a Member of Congress” and “discriminatory in nature.”

Crockett recently made other headlines, after calling for a “Global day of action” against Elon Musk’s Tesla company.

She also mocked Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) as having a “bad built, bleach blonde, butch body” during an Oversight Committee hearing last year.

President Donald Trump warned Hamas to release all Israeli hostages or “it is OVER for you.”

On Wednesday, Trump posted on Truth Social, telling the terrorist organization to release all of the hostages now and to immediately return all of the dead bodies that they currently have in their possession.

“‘Shalom Hamas’ means Hello and Goodbye – You can choose. Release all of the Hostages now, not later, and immediately return all of the dead bodies of the people you murdered, or it is OVER for you. Only sick and twisted people keep bodies, and you are sick and twisted! I am sending Israel everything it needs to finish the job, not a single Hamas member will be safe if you don’t do as I say,” he stated.

“I have just met with your former Hostages whose lives you have destroyed. This is your last warning! For the leadership, now is the time to leave Gaza, while you still have a chance. Also, to the people of Gaza: A beautiful future awaits, but not if you hold hostages. If you do, you are DEAD! Make a SMART decision. RELEASE THE HOSTAGES NOW, OR THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY LATER!” he continued.

Earlier in the day, Trump had wrapped up a meeting at the White House with a group of eight released hostages where he stated “We will get them out,” referring to the remaining hostages being held by Hamas.

“Thank you all. We’re working on it very hard,” Trump said as he shook each of the freed hostages. “We’ll do the best we can… Horrible stories. It’s not even believable… We’ll get them out. Watch. We’ll get them out.”

The released hostages thanked Trump for his efforts to release them.

“You’ve been sent by God to release them. You can really help. You have the power to do it,” said Omer Shem Tov, who had been held captive by Hamas.

“You were our hope when we were there, and now you’re their hope,” said another rescued hostage, Naama Levy.

According to a new analysis, President Donald Trump has answered an astounding 1,009 questions from reporters in the first month of his second administration—with the GOP president posting his administration’s accomplishments on Truth Social.

Former President Joe Biden’s first-month total of 141 press questions answered is blown away by the tabulation, which was gathered by George Condon of the National Journal—being released on Tuesday.

During the first 31 days of his first term in 2009, former Democrat President Barack Obama took only 161 questions.

Even in 2017, when Trump took questions between January 20th and February 20th, he is answering a lot more questions now than he ever did before.

In what are effectively near-daily news conferences, the president has mostly met with the media during Oval Office meetings and executive order signings. Press pool reporters frequently ask two to five questions each during their media appearances in the Oval Office.

“It’s definitely a case of presidential learning,” political scientist and author Martha Kumar told the National Journal.

“He’s using the Oval Office. People stop when they see the president in the Oval Office talking on their television. They want to know what he’s saying.”

Additionally, on Tuesday this week, Trump posted infographics of a list of his administration’s accomplishments so far.

He brought attention to what has been done in just the first month regarding the economy, the border, the energy sector, and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Trump Reinstates Service Members Discharged Over COVID Vaccine

The COVID vaccine was required for U.S. military service members for 15 months, from August 2021 to January 2023. Eight-four hundred service members were discharged for not getting the COVID vaccine. In January 2023, former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin rescinded the mandate. It was the first time in history the military reversed a vaccine mandate, but only dozens of those who were discharged returned to the military. Republicans have argued the mandate hurts the military’s recruiting and retention capability. … The military had acknowledged it had a recruiting problem just the year before, and the mandate was a political headache for the Biden administration.

DOGE Cuts DEI Funding, Axes Over $370M In Education Grants

In only two days, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cut a staggering $370 million in taxpayer funding that was being spent on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at the Department of Education (DOE).

DOGE revealed in a post on their x account that they got rid of 70 DEI training grants within the department. 

According to the department run by Elon Musk, the grants totaled $373 million. 

One specific grant was funding training for teachers to “engage in ongoing learning and self-reflection to confront their own biases and racism, and develop asset-based anti-racist mindsets,” the cost-cutting department said.

DOGE has been revealing significant findings over the past few weeks, including the cancellation of multiple avenues of funding for DEI in education, including $9.7 million for UC Berkeley to develop “a cohort of Cambodian youth with enterprise driven skills.”

Additionally, DOGE announced the termination of another 89 DOE contracts that totaled $881 million. This number included over $100 million in DEI grants. 

Meanwhile, the Education Department has been cutting DEI practices in education as a whole, mandating all 50 state education departments last week to remove DEI policies within 14 days or else they will lose federal funding. 

The letter said the “overt and covert racial discrimination that has become widespread in this nation’s educational institutions” will no longer be tolerated.

“The law is clear: treating students differently on the basis of race to achieve nebulous goals such as diversity, racial balancing, social justice, or equity is illegal under controlling Supreme Court precedent,” the letter reads.

Mexico’s first female president has warned that if Google does not restore the label “Gulf of Mexico,” the former designation of the oceanic basin and marginal sea of the Atlantic Ocean, to its popular Google Maps service — then the country will file a lawsuit against them.

On Monday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum asserted that the country will take legal action against Google if it continues to show U.S.-based users the “Gulf of America” designation across the entire body of water. 

Sheinbaum continued, arguing that President Donald Trump’s order only applies to the part of the continental shelf under U.S. control.

“What Google is doing here is changing the name of the continental shelf of Mexico and Cuba, which has nothing to do with Trump’s decree, which applied only to the US continental shelf,” Sheinbaum told reporters. “We do not agree with this, and the Foreign Minister has sent a new letter addressing the issue.”

Sheinbaum called the renaming “incorrect,” noting that Trump’s order “only changed the name within his own continental shelf, which extends 22 nautical miles from the U.S. coast—not the entire Gulf.”

The Mexican president read out a response from Google to a letter sent by Mexico to the company in January, contesting the decision to rename the gulf.

“As we first announced two weeks ago, and consistent with our product policies, we’ve begun rolling out changes to Google Maps. We would like to confirm that people using Maps in Mexico will continue to see ‘Gulf of Mexico,’” the letter from Google reiterated.

“People in the US will see ‘Gulf of America’. Everyone else will see both names,” the letter noted.

Sheinbaum also maintained that Mexico would be sending another letter to Google, stating that “any reference to the ‘Gulf of America’ initiative on your Google Maps platform must be strictly limited to the marine area under U.S. jurisdiction.”

“Any extension beyond that zone exceeds the authority of any national government or private entity. Should that be the case, the Government of Mexico will take the appropriate legal actions as deemed necessary,” it added.

Google changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America for Google Maps users in the United States this week, citing “a longstanding practice of applying name changes when they have been updated in official government sources.” 

Sheinbaum concluded that her country will be waiting for a response from the company before proceeding with legal action.
