The Chinese are warning about an impending nuclear war if the United States does not cease its investigation into the origins of the COVID pandemic. They warn that the Americans must call off their probe into the sources of the disease -- a warning which has prompted many American analysts to conclude that the leaders in Beijing fear discovery of the truth: that they -- the Chinese Communists -- are the source of the pandemic.

The Chinese Communists have long experimented with bioweapons, and have apparently continued the nasty habit, both recruiting Western scientists and putting them to work on Chinese projects and smuggling Westerners into projects within China itself. One of the world's top China experts, British citizen Roger Garside, foresees a mounting crisis since Beijing will have to confront a triple whammy:  a financial crisis, a moral vacuum, and widespread corruption. In an interview he gave recently about his new book, Garside summarized the situation grimly: China is outwardly strong but inwardly weak.

The oil-sector protesters stressed that they will continue their strike and will further expand their activities if their demands are not met. The demonstrations have been spectacularly effective and continue to grow.

According to the "official" statistics, the expansion of the strikes has been a little short of amazing. Since the beginning of the strike, the movement has expanded to more than 70 companies in more than a dozen cities, including Tehran, Arak, Isfahan, Ahvaz, Abadan, Mahshahr, Jask, Gachsaran, Damavand, Behbehan, Bushehr, Kangan, Qeshm, Khark, Urmia, Kerma, Bandar Abbas, and Ilam. Given the poor reporting from Iran, it's necessary to assume that the real numbers are substantially higher.

The strikers have gathered global enthusiasm, including explicit support from the United States Department of State, and now from the White House.

The Biden Administration has kept the worst of Trump’s policies in the Middle East and reversed the best policies. The people of Afghanistan already endure the catastrophic results while the Lebanese suffer the indignities of defeat and invasion. “Ending endless wars” unites Trump/Biden, and will only result in more wars, US entanglements, and challenges from enemies around the world.

The most dramatic contrast is the ongoing conflict between India and China, which also entails an ideological conflict. The Chinese assert that a ruthless totalitarian regime is required to effectively govern a nation of more than a billion souls, while the Indians argue that only a democratic government can effectively manage such a task.

Both regimes have sent substantial numbers of troops to the borders, and China's dictator recently proclaimed that it might be time for a change in Chinese public statements. Xi Jinping told a meeting of the Politburo that Beijing needed to make its international statements more "credible, likable and respectable."

Such sentiments may reflect a desire to make China more attractive, and to downplay the longstanding style of Chinese "wolf-warrior" propaganda.

Time will tell.

Iran demands ‘guarantees’ from Washington over nuclear talks due to Trump’s ‘arrogance’

Iran will likely get its guarantees from Biden’s handlers in their pursuit of another disastrous nuclear deal at all costs.

Trump knew about Iran’s violation of the Obama nuclear deal and its own admission to having violated it. Trump was also aware of Iran’s repeated threats and provocations regarding its military capabilities. Iran’s escalation is worrying, and its new president Ebrahim Raisi is extremely brutal. He ordered thousands killed in mass executions and tortured pregnant women. And he calls himself a “defender of human rights.”

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has warned that Raisi is the “last chance for world powers to wake up before returning to the nuclear agreement.” As Iran boasts about “agreements” and “human rights” despite its record, no Western country appears to be waking up and becoming willing to stand up to Iran as it continues full speed toward developing a nuclear bomb. Now it is bullying a weak Biden administration into submission.

Iran has said that it’s looking for guarantees from the US during negotiations in Vienna aimed at bringing the two countries back in line with the 2015 nuclear deal abandoned by former president Donald Trump.

Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said the former US administration of Donald Trump had demonstrated how the US can turn its back on agreements.

The United States once showed during the Trump era that it can arrogantly ignore the interests of other countries, so Iran wants guarantees from the current US administration.

Khatibzadeh refused to be drawn into discussions on what these guarantees were, noting that “it is a topic that is being discussed behind closed doors.”

Talks have been taking place in Vienna this year to restore the 2015 nuclear deal (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), which was originally signed in 2015 between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – China, France, Russia, the UK, and the US – plus Germany.

The pact, which put restraints on Iranian nuclear ambitions, was unilaterally abandoned in 2018 by former US president Donald Trump, who enacted harsh sanctions on Tehran.

Iran has since further hollowed out the deal, increasing its enrichment program in excess of the agreed 3.67% level, but less than the 90% level considered weapons-grade. In April, Tehran stated that it would enhance its uranium enrichment to 60%, following an alleged Israeli attack on its Natanz nuclear facility.

Last week, International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi said that a long-awaited deal may have to wait until Iran has a new government….

“Ultraconservative ‘Butcher’ Ebrahim Raisi who ordered thousands killed in mass executions and tortured pregnant women wins Iranian presidential election,” by Gemma Parry, MailOnline, June 19, 2021:

Ebrahim Raisi has been named Iran’s next president, after his rivals conceded before official results were even announced in the country’s lowest ever election turnout for a presidential election.

Raisi is known as ‘the butcher’ for disappearing and executing thousands of opposition prisoners in 1988 while serving as Tehran’s deputy prosecutor and allegedly ordering pregnant woman tortured.

It is thought that at least several thousand and possibly more than 30,000 activists were put to death – hanged by construction cranes in batches of 10 – during the purge.

Iranian political prisoners who were interrogated, tortured and sentenced to die by Raisi have recently told of their horrifying experiences.

Farideh Goudarzi, who was jailed for being part of a banned political group, told MailOnline how Raisi watched guards drop her baby on the floor as part of one brutal interrogation – after she was tortured while pregnant and forced to give birth in jail.

Similarly Mahmoud Royaee, another political prisoner interrogated by Raisi during the 1988 executions, said he once handed down a death sentence to an inmate who was in the midst of an epileptic fit.

Amnesty International have said that Raisi should be investigated for alleged crimes against humanity for his role on the ‘Death Commission’.

‘That Ebrahim Raisi has risen to the presidency instead of being investigated for the crimes against humanity of murder, enforced disappearance and torture, is a grim reminder that impunity reigns supreme in Iran,’ Amnesty said in a statement.

Raisi won 62 per cent of the votes with 90 per cent counted so far. Turnout figures of just under 50 per cent were recorded after voting was extended by two hours amid fears that turnout would be lower than 50 per cent.

Exiled opposition groups said that the majority of voters shunned the presidential elections, hailing the boycott which they urged voters to take part in as a blow to the country’s theocratic system.

Maryam Rajavi, the leader of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), said the ‘nationwide boycott’ was the ‘greatest political and social blow’ to the system led by supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

‘The boycott proved and showed the world that the Iranian people’s only vote is to overthrow this mediaeval regime,’ she was quoted by the NCRI as saying.

The People’s Mujahedin Organisation of Iran (MEK/PMOI) whose political wing is the NCRI believe the actual turnout was 10 percent and the authorities have inflated it by a factor of five in an ‘astronomical fabrication’, the NCRI said….

President Joe Biden is “caving into Iran” on its nuclear program, Rudy Giuliani charged Sunday.

In an interview with radio host John Catsimatidis on The Cat's Roundtable on WABC 770 AM-N.Y., Giuliani ticked off a series of foreign policy decisions by Biden that were ill-informed — including lifting sanctions on Iranian companies. His remarks were posted by The Hill ahead of the interview’s airing.

“He’s caving into Iran before Iran even wants to make a deal,” Giuliani said of indirect talks between Washington and Tehran aimed at the United States rejoining a 2015 multinational Iran nuclear pact that crumbled after the former President Donald Trump withdrew win 2018.

“He’s already let a couple of very big Iranian terrorist business people off the hook. He’s already taken sanctions away from Iranian companies that have been dealing in oil,” said Giuliani, who served as Trump’s personal lawyer.

“So, already Iran has gotten [concessions], without giving up anything that they want to get from us. It’s the worst way to negotiate a deal, particularly with a regime of terror.”

The State Department has said lifting the sanctions was unrelated to negations on the Obama-era deal.

Giuliani last year also decried the multinational pact with Iran.

The European countries, to Giuliani, “have turned their eyes on a barbaric regime and neglected democracy,” he said last September. “I don’t understand it. They [European countries] lecture us about human rights, but what about the human rights of Iranians? …[T]hey are giving money to the biggest sponsor of terrorism, so don’t they know they are helping give money to terrorists? It wasn’t enough to just give them money — we had to let them become a nuclear power.

“For a U.S. President to turn over cash that murders more people, shows a real deterioration in honor, morality, and care about human rights and suffering.”

On Saturday, European Union negotiators said renewed international talks on the Iran nuclear agreement were on track to revive the deal. 

Senior diplomats from China, Germany, France, Russia, and Britain concluded a 90-minute meeting with Iranian representatives at a hotel in the Austrian capital.

"We are making progress, but the negotiations are intense and a number of issues [remain], including on how steps are to be implemented," EU representative Alain Matton told reporters in Vienna.

In his remarks to Catsimatidis, Giuliani also criticized the Biden administration for waiving sanctions on the Russian company behind the Nord Stream 2 pipeline last month, after concluding there was no way to halt construction of the pipeline.

TC Energy, the company behind the Keystone XL Pipeline between the U.S. and Canada, officially scrapped its project after Biden revoked a key permit for it.

Giuliani said Biden has displayed a “level of weakness” comparable to the lead up of the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.

“He’s gone there and displayed a level of weakness that, I don’t know—” Giuliani charged.

“I remember years ago when Kennedy did this and made that [same] mistake with Khrushchev. Khrushchev took it as a sign of weakness, and we got the Cuban missile crisis,” he continued. “Well, Kennedy straightened them out then, but I’m not sure that Biden will be able to do it.”

Two warships flying Iranian colors are sailing south along the east coast of Africa and may be headed to Venezuela, Politico reported on Saturday.

The US national security apparatus is monitoring the ships’ progress. The vessels, a frigate and the Makran forward staging base, are believed to be headed toward the Islamic Republic’s South American ally, but their destination, cargo and goal are unclear.

If the ships are indeed headed for South America, Tehran has chosen a puzzling moment in which to send military vessels to the US’s backyard. Negotiations on the return of both Iran and the US to compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or Iran nuclear deal, have been ongoing in Vienna and the sides have expressed cautious optimism. If success is achieved, the White House will lift crippling economic sanctions placed on Iran.

The Makran is a repurposed oil tanker, and it is important to note that Iran has sent oil shipments to its ally in the past, as recently as April.

Dr. Nancy Gallagher, director of the Center for International and Security Studies at the University of Maryland, told The Media Line, “Iran has sent oil to Venezuela before because Iran does not think that the US has the right to use sanctions to stop Iranian oil sales.”

Gallagher adds that “the Iranians may also be trying to send the message that if the US has the right to have its warships in international waters near Iran (which it does under international law), then Iran has the same right to have its naval ships in international waters in the Western Hemisphere.”…

Biden Frees Al Qaeda Ally Who Plotted to Smuggle Nukes Into US

Why settle for helping Iran nuke America, when you can also help Al Qaeda nuke America?

With inflation rising almost as fast as gas prices and the cost of a home, Joe Biden ain’t doing much for most Americans. But if you’re an Al Qaeda terrorist, he’s got your back.

Just ask three of Gitmo’s finest who are benefiting from Biden’s generosity.

9/11 was in Al Qaeda's rearview mirror and its mastermind, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, was plotting a sequel. The Gitmo dossier for Paracha first details a plan to use his “textile business to smuggle explosives into the US” and these "ready-made explosives, specifically C4" would go into shipping containers full of "women and children's clothing".

Shipping Al Qaeda’s C4 to America would be more lucrative than dumping sweatshop labor sweatpants because “if al-Qaida used detainee’s textile company for shipping explosives to the US, he would likely be paid additional money beyond the standard shipping fees”. No word on whether there would have been a bonus for every American blown up.

And then things escalated from there with testimony that Paracha allegedly claimed that he, “believed he could obtain unspecified chemicals from Chinese sources”. The fellow he was talking to about the unspecified chemicals, Ammar al-Baluchi, one of the few Gitmo Jihadis whom neither Obama nor Biden had managed to release yet, had helped out the 9/11 hijackers with flight simulators, and manuals, and allegedly chatted with Mohammed Atta.

After 9/11, Al-Baluchi was looking at all sorts of plans for crashing planes into things, like the American consulate in Karachi or London’s Heathrow airport, but there were other options on the table. The nature of the chemicals out of China was never specified, but the KSM lieutenant believed they were” chemical or biological agents” that could be used “as a weapon”.

Paracha reportedly advised Al Qaeda that “one should look for a similar-looking chemical and put it in between the good chemicals and it would be very easy to get [through] customs.” With his business experience, he could offer Al Qaeda tips on smuggling such as warning them about the “radiological sensors at ports or places of entry into the US” that would make it difficult to smuggle radioactive materials into the country”.

But Biden’s newest charity case wanted something bigger. The dossier describes the 9/11 mastermind's associate and Paracha chatting about Al Qaeda getting some "radiological or nuclear items several times" because Paracha wanted "to help al-Qaida 'do something big against the US.'”

Paracha "also discussed nuclear attacks and attacks against nuclear power plants" and had an idea for “al-Qaida to attack a nuclear power plant”.

So you can see why Joe Biden is letting him go.

Why settle for helping Iran nuke America when you can also help Al Qaeda nuke America?

The Pakistani graduate of the New York Institute of Technology “expressed strong anti-US sentiment” and allegedly “stated that nuclear weapons should be used against US troops, as thousands of the troops would be killed at once”.

The pro-terror lobby has spent all these years claiming that Paracha was an innocent victim of American imperialism who was never charged with anything and was smeared with confessions obtained by acts of horrifying torture like Barney songs played on a non-stop loop.

Curiously the dossier mentions that Paracha's diary had  "references to military chemical warfare agents and their effects on humans" including Sarin nerve gas.

But what New York travel agent hasn't filled his diary with entries about the effects of nerve gas on humans along with the contact information for an alleged Al Qaeda anthrax operative?

You’d have to be an Islamophobe to find anything suspicious about that.

Sadly, none of these plans worked out. Instead, the agents of the Great Satan told Palacha that they wanted him to come to Thailand to discuss a deal with Kmart. When Palacha showed up to pitch Kmart reps on a blue light special that might or might not glow in the dark, they weren’t there to get a deal on some Pakistani underwear but offering a place off Cuba with a view.

Even Obama didn’t set Paracha loose, but Biden is determined to out-Obama him.

The media understandably doesn’t want to trouble Americans with any uncomfortable mentions of nuclear weapons and Chinese chemicals when explaining Biden’s latest gift to Al Qaeda.

The New York Times only mentions that Paracha is "a former businessman and longtime legal resident of New York" and that he has "heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure".

Also some years ago a spiritual leader with a Buddhist symbol made famous by an Austrian house painter carved into his forehead died of colon cancer while one of California's oldest inmates. It’s almost as awful as when that elderly former house painter committed suicide after a long struggle with syphilis along with his new bride in a bunker that Biden would have envied.

The Hill plaintively whines that “Paracha was the oldest and reportedly among the sickest detainees held at Guantánamo Bay. He suffered from heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure.” Since Paracha is still alive and the description is in the past tense, we can only assume that being freed by Biden is a cure for heart disease, diabetes, and blood pressure.

If Biden really wants to cure cancer, he can drop all of that moonshot nonsense, all he needs to do is give all of Al Qaeda cancer, and then release them. If it doesn’t cure them, it’ll kill them.

Releasing Paracha might also be a concern for the Brits as the dossier also states that he had discussed with Al-Baluchi “how to smuggle explosives and chemicals into England”.

When Paracha wasn't exploring the exciting possibilities of nuclear weapons, he met Osama bin Laden on a trip to Afghanistan and "offered to let UBL and al-Qaida use his media broadcasting business to film and distribute propaganda and training films'' that would include "depicting UBL quoting Koranic verses". While a lot of Paracha's other plots were theoretical, the dossier indicates that Al Qaeda used Paracha's "video broadcasting facility" to make a movie featuring "a senior Saudi al-Qaida facilitator associated with a cell targeting Americans in Saudi Arabia."

But no doubt after all that time having to listen to Barney sing, “I Love You, You Love Me” on repeat at Gitmo, with nothing to read except the Koran and Harry Potter novels, Paracha has come around and now loves America. And from now on will commit to only shipping women’s and children’s clothing to Kmart without C4, Chinese chemicals, or nukes.

The other beneficiaries of Biden’s generosity are Uthman Abdul Rahim Mohammed Uthman, an alleged bodyguard for Osama bin Laden, and Abdul Rabbani, allegedly a member of an Al Qaeda cell plotting car bomb attacks against Americans.

Biden intends to continue Obama’s work of freeing all the Islamic terrorists of Gitmo.

Paracha had apparently told American investigators that "he did not think meeting with al-Qaida was a crime, just business".

Biden clearly doesn’t think aiding Islamic terrorists is a crime either. That’s why he’s doing it.

Iran sought nuclear weapons and technology for weapons of mass destruction in 2020

No matter how much evidence is put forth to prove the folly of a new nuke deal with Iran, none of it seems to matter to kowtowing globalist leaders, who are facilitating the escalation of Iran’s aggression, and the destruction of the West.

The Islamic Republic of Iran made multiple attempts in 2020 to obtain technology for its weapons of mass destruction program and has not stopped its drive to develop atomic weapons, intelligence agencies from the Netherlands, Sweden and Germany recently reported.

The Netherlands’ General Intelligence and Security Service “investigated networks that tried to obtain the knowledge and materials to develop weapons of mass destruction. Multiple acquisition attempts have been frustrated by the intervention of the services,” the agency wrote in its April report.

According to the Dutch report, “The joint Counter-proliferation Unit (UCP) of the AIVD [the General Intelligence and Security Service] and the MIVD [the country’s Military Intelligence and Security Service] is investigating how countries try to obtain the knowledge and goods they need to make weapons of mass destruction. Countries such as Syria, Pakistan, Iran and North Korea also tried to acquire such goods and technology in Europe and the Netherlands last year.”

Iran’s regime was listed under the document’s section on preventing “countries from acquiring weapons of mass destruction.”

The intelligence agency did not provide details on the multiple attempts by the rogue nations to secure weapons of mass destruction technology. The report also did not state whether Iran’s regime illegally obtained technology and equipment for its nuclear program.

The General Intelligence and Security Service under its mandate “conducts investigations, provides information, and mobilizes third parties to safeguard the democratic legal order and national security, to actively reduce risks, and to contribute to foreign policy-making.”

The Netherlands’ MIVD and AIVD intelligence services, according to the report, “conducted intensive research into several very active networks” that are involved in proliferation and use various third parties in European countries. “Consequently, export licenses were verified and acquisition attempts frustrated,” the report said.

The damning findings from the fresh European intelligence are likely to animate broader discussion about whether the U.S. should return to the much-criticized 2015 Iran nuclear deal….

A high-profile Israeli security delegation, headed by Mossad Director Yossi Cohen, is arriving in Washington this week to discuss the dangers of restoring the original 2015 Iranian nuclear accord just days after the White House signaled that the Biden administration will not be swayed to change its policy on the deal.

Ahead of the arrival of the delegation of Israeli senior security officials, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki on Friday answered “no” when asked at a press briefing whether the visit was likely to change the US administration’s stance on reviving the nuclear deal, to which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is strongly opposed.

How indecent of the Bidenites to proclaim to the Israelis, even before they arrive, in front of the whole world, that there is nothing they can say to the Americans that will change their minds. Their minds are made up. The Americans don’t want to be reminded that just a few months ago they were themselves talking about the need “to lengthen and strengthen” the agreement with Iran. They are in no mood to listen to their closest ally in the Middle East. They don’t want to listen to the Israelis, who know better than anyone what Iran is up to with its nuclear program, understand how it plans to comply, or to pretend to, with the JCPOA, and what it will do in 2030 when it is allowed its “break out” and can manufacture, completely legally, nuclear weapons. They don’t want to listen to the Israelis, even though Israel, not America, is the main target of Iran’s nuclear program. How many times has Iran threatened to destroy the Jewish state? The Bidenites don’t want to hear about it. They don’t want to listen to the Israelis, whose tiny country’s very survival may depend on what agreement is concluded with Iran in Vienna and who, therefore, have beyond all others earned the right to be heard. The indifference of the Biden people to Israel’s attempt to present its arguments against a return to the Iran deal is unspeakable.

Despite Psaki’s statement, Dore Gold, President of the Jerusalem Center of Public Affairs, argued that that “it is important that Israel shares all the relevant intelligence on Iran and articulates what the problem is with negotiating with Iran.”

The most persuasive arguments are made face-to-face,” Gold, who served as Director-General of the Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2015, told The Algemeiner. “In the past Israel and the US had different assumptions on Iranian behavior, which have now become even more pronounced. Iran’s record of compliance with signed agreements is very weak.”

Gold is too optimistic – or perhaps he simply won’t allow himself to believe that the Americans can be so idiotically close-minded.  He’s still talking about the value of making “arguments…face-to-face” but the Americans have already said that nothing that is presented to them, no information the Israelis bring with them about just-uncovered examples of Iranian deception, no news about Iran’s ballistic missile program, or the nuclear facilities just completed deep inside the mountain at Fordow, will change their minds. “Don’t confuse us with facts. Our minds are made up.”

…Michael Oren, Israel’s former Ambassador to the US, told The Algemeiner that he is concerned about the symbolic significance of the Israeli delegation traveling to Washington after the White House comments on Friday.

“This is kind of humiliating after Israel’s important ally in the Middle East said it will not listen. I would be very hesitant in sending this delegation,” Oren commented. “If we are going back to the JCPOA, which is flawed, there could be a very dangerous outcome.”

“There is a lot of visual appearance in this in that it shows that there was consultation with Israelis. We should be very careful [not] to legitimize the agreement,” Oren warned.

Oren is right: the Israelis are being humiliated by Jen Psaki’s unembarrassed acknowledgement that there is nothing the visitors can say, no new information that they may bring, that will change Administration minds. And by agreeing to meet with members of the delegation in Washington, the Biden people – Oren fears – can make it appear to Israel’s American supporters that they did, after all, consult with the Israelis.

…There are ongoing discussions — or negotiations, I should say, that are happening now — they’re indirect, of course — on the potential for a diplomatic path forward on the new — on a nuclear deal,” White House’s Psaki said on Friday. “As it relates to Israel, we have kept them abreast as a key partner of these discussions — or of our intentions, and we will continue to do that on any future visits.”

It is not true that the Bidenites have “kept them [the Israelis] abreast” of what’s been going on in Vienna. A great deal has not been shared, which is one source of Israeli anxiety. Nor has the Biden administration asked for Israel’s opinion on those negotiations, much less allowed any Israeli objections to be taken into account. The Biden administration wants this deal to go through. It will jump through whatever hoops the Iranians hold out. In February, it was still insisting that Iran had to go first, and fully return to the deal, before American sanctions would be lifted. Iran wouldn’t have it, and we no longer hear that condition precedent being mentioned.

Commenting on the ongoing talks in Vienna, Gold noted that “there is a real dilemma, because if you remove sanctions there is a huge windfall of funds that becomes available for terrorist activities in the Middle East and around the world. At least the Biden administration is talking about a longer and stronger deal but I don’t think that the Iranians will agree.”

Gold apparently hasn’t noticed that while the Biden administration did, very early on, talk about the need for a “longer and stronger deal,” it has ceased to mention that requirement altogether. Now it refers vaguely to another deal that might be reached after the return to the JCPOA by both sides is accomplished, but why would Iran at that point, having obtained the lifting of all the American sanctions, feel any pressure to agree to a second deal about ballistic missiles and regional aggression through proxies?

Gold suggested that before sanctions are lifted Iran needs to demonstrate that it has changed direction, that it will not help the Hezbollah in missile inventory, and that it is prepared to confine itself to the terms of a deal.

Dore Gold’s suggestions make sense, but there is not the slightest chance that Iran would agree to any of it, nor that the Biden administration would put the slightest pressure on Iran to accept it. The sanctions will be lifted without any further Iranian concessions on missiles to Hezbollah or anything else; sanctions-lifting will provide Iran with a bonanza calculated to be at least 100 billion dollars, money to spend on weapons for itself and for its proxies in Yemen, Iraq, and Lebanon. Once it has the money, Iran will do what it likes, which means it will violate many of the terms of the JCPOA, just as it did between 2015 and 2018, when Donald Trump put an end to the farce, withdrew from the deal, and clamped crippling sanctions on Iran, that were just starting to have a devastating effect on Iran’s economy when the Biden cavalry came riding to Tehran’s rescue. And Israel will have to recognize that when it comes to foiling Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the Jewish state is now very much on its own.

 

German intelligence: Iran, Syria, and Pakistan are producing weapons of mass destruction

This should be well known among all Western leaders and citizens alike, but it’s good to see it backed up by an intelligence report. The threat of states such as Iran and Pakistan, and Syria also to a lesser degree, is based in large part on Islamic doctrines of warfare against unbelievers. The chief threat is, of course, Iran: “The German intelligence agency for the state of Bavaria said last week in its new report that the Islamic Republic of Iran has not ceased its drive to obtain weapons of mass destruction during 2020.” Iran has never slowed down, and no deal will stop it. Its violation of the nuclear deal by its own admission is long-established. The whole deal was based on lies.

Iran’s proxy Hizballah also expands Iran’s global reach. The German report specifically lists “additional threats to Bavaria’s democracy” via Hizballah, noting that Hizballah, “the Iranian regime’s chief strategic ally in the Middle East, has 30 members in Bavaria.”

Continuing to clamp down on the activities of Iran and Hizballah globally requires a prioritized followup from democratic countries, which isn’t happening, particularly now with a weakened United States and Canada and a predominantly globalist EU.

Going beyond Bavaria, although “the US, Canada, the Arab League, Israel, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and many other European and Latin American countries classify Hezbollah as a terrorist organization,” Hizballah is still disturbingly active in these countries. For example, while Canada focuses on “Islamophobia,” Hizballah expands its elite operations in the country, and millions of dollars are wired into the country. Similarly, Hizballah has ongoing operations in the UK, in the US, Germany, and in the Netherlands. Being outlawed is merely a start.

“Iran still seeks mass destruction weapons – German intelligence report,” by Benjamin Weinthal, Jerusalem Post, April 28, 2021:

The German intelligence agency for the state of Bavaria said last week in its new report that the Islamic Republic of Iran has not ceased its drive to obtain weapons of mass destruction during 2020.

“Proliferation-relevant states like Iran, North Korea, Syria and Pakistan are making efforts to expand their conventional arsenal of weapons through the production or constant modernization of weapons of mass destruction,” wrote the Bavarian Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the formal name for the domestic intelligence agency.

“In order to obtain the necessary know-how and corresponding components, these states are trying to establish business contacts to companies in high-technology countries like Germany,” said the Bavarian intelligence report in its section on weapons of mass destruction.

The German agency is the rough equivalent of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency).

The intelligence report defines proliferation as “the unauthorized spread of atomic, biological, chemical weapons of mass destruction or the products used for their manufacture as well as the corresponding weapon carrier systems, including the necessary know-how.”

With respect to the section of the report on the Islamic Republic’s espionage activities, the intelligence document stated that “Germany remains in the focus of intelligence activities. This includes information from foreign and security policy as well as business and science. An additional focus [of Iran’s intelligence services] is the observation of, and fight against, opposition groups domestically and abroad.”

The Jerusalem Post reviewed the 380-page intelligence document which contains 28 references to the Islamic Republic. The report lists additional threats to Bavaria’s democracy.

This is a slap in the face to all the countries that are in Vienna to discuss a renewed nuke deal. Iran will continue to brazenly violate any deal. “Iran installed more advanced centrifuges at Natanz – IAEA,” Reuters, April 22, 2021:

Iran has installed extra advanced centrifuges at its underground uranium enrichment plant at Natanz that was hit by a blast last week, a report by the U.N. atomic watchdog on Wednesday showed, deepening Iran’s breaches of its nuclear deal with major powers.

The explosion and a power outage damaged an unknown number of centrifuges and Iranian state TV has shown footage of machines that it says were replaced there. Iran has blamed Israel for the explosion. Israel has not commented formally on it.

The International Atomic Energy Agency report was not clear on how many centrifuges are in use but it gave “up to” numbers of advanced machines installed at the plant that were higher than previously indicated. The report made no mention of the explosion or its effect on the plant’s activity.

“On 21 April 2021, the Agency verified at FEP that: … six cascades of up to 1,044 IR-2m centrifuges; and two cascades of up to 348 IR-4 centrifuges … were installed, of which a number were being used,” the IAEA report to member states said, referring to the underground Fuel Enrichment Plant at Natanz. The report was seen by Reuters.

According to a previous report, the IAEA verified on March 31 that Iran was using 696 IR-2m machines and 174 IR-4 machines at the FEP.

Wednesday’s report is the latest evidence that Iran is pressing ahead with the installation of the advanced machines, even though it is not allowed to use them to produce enriched uranium under the 2015 agreement….

“Israel retaliates after Syrian missile lands near nuclear reactor,” Reuters, April 21, 2021:

A Syrian missile exploded in southern Israel on Thursday, the Israeli military said, in an incident that triggered warning sirens near the secretive Dimona nuclear reactor and an Israeli strike in Syria.

An Israeli military spokesman identified the projectile as an SA-5 surface-to-air missile fired by Syrian forces against Israeli aircraft. He said it overflew its target to reach the Dimona area, 200 km (125 miles) south of the Syrian border.

The missile did not hit the reactor, exploding some 30 km (19 miles) away, the spokesman added.

The sirens that sounded overnight in the Dimona area followed weeks of heightened tension between Israel and Iran, a close ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, amid renewed global negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme.

For weeks, Israeli media have said air defences around the Dimona reactor and the Red Sea port of Eilat were being strengthened in anticipation of a possible long-range missile or drone attack by Iranian-backed forces.

In public remarks on Thursday’s incident, Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz said the anti-aircraft missile was fired from Syria during an Israeli strike there against “assets that could be used for a potential attack against Israel”.

Gantz said Israel’s anti-missile systems had attempted to intercept the SA-5 but were unsuccessful.

“In most cases, we achieve other results. This is a slightly more complex case. We will investigate it and move on,” he said. Israeli security sources said the missile exploded in mid-air.

In response, Israel launched further overnight attacks inside Syria, the military spokesman said, targeting several missile batteries, including the one that fired the SA-5.

Syria’s state news agency said the country’s air defence system intercepted Israeli rockets over the suburbs of Damascus “and downed most of them”. Four soldiers were injured and there was some material damage, it said…..

Pompeo Urges Biden Not to Rejoin Nuclear Deal With ‘Evil’ Iran Regime

As the Biden administration moves to reenter the Iran nuclear deal at a conference in Vienna, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned Wednesday against dealing with the “evil” and “anti-Semitic” Iranian regime. 

Pompeo said the “world’s foremost sponsor of terror, the Islamic Republic of Iran, today is in Vienna,” meeting directly with U.S. diplomats, as well as with diplomats from France, Germany, and Britain. 

“I am hoping each of the leaders in that room acknowledges that the regime is indeed evil. It is anti-Semitic. Indeed, it speaks of its genocidal intent while denying the Holocaust,” Pompeo said Wednesday in New York. He spoke at Rabbi Shmuley Boteach’s World Values Network on the eve of the 73rd anniversary of Israel’s independence.

“America, who is the noblest force for good and for human rights in the world, cannot permit the return to a situation where the risk to the Jewish homeland is real and the capacity for Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon is real,” Pompeo said. “I pray that we will move forward on a path, which is decent and righteous and moral, and make sure that we always defend those democracies in this world who are prepared to stand up for their own rights.”

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani both boasted that Iran would increase uranium enrichment to 60%, the highest level yet. That comes after they blamed Israel for the bombing this past weekend of Iran’s main Natanz nuclear-enrichment site. 

Enriched uranium at 60% would still be lower than weapons-grade, which would have to be enriched at 90%. 

Further, Khamenei dismissed the multinational talks in Vienna. 

“The offers they provided are usually arrogant and humiliating [and] are not worth looking at,” the ayatollah said in a public address. 

The Obama administration entered the Iran agreement —formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action—to drop sanctions on Iran if it agreed to slow its nuclear program. Other parties to the original agreement were Britain, France. Germany, Russia, and China. 

The Trump administration withdrew from the agreement in 2018 amid concerns Iran wasn’t complying and reimposed sanctions. The Vienna talks are aimed at getting the United States back into the agreement. 

Pompeo said Wednesday that reentering the agreement would be unwise. 

The former secretary of state noted that in 1948, President Harry Truman made a “moral and right decision” within 11 minutes of Israel’s declaration as an independent nation to recognize the new Jewish state. 

“I think about the two declarations of independence. Each different documents, to be sure, but they share some self-evident propositions,” Pompeo said. “In America’s case, it was the self-evident right for all men to be created equal. In Israel’s case, it was what the Hebrew prophets handed down the right of the Jewish people to be masters of their own fate in their own homeland. 

Both documents created by citizens who know that their words would, time and time again, be required to back up with real deeds and military strength, and they knew that freedom requires incredibly strong defense, and each nation was prepared to do that.

Pompeo noted the strong U.S. relationship with Israel during the Trump administration, including fostering the Abraham Accords and moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. 

“We did these because they were the right thing to do. They were the honest thing to do,” the former envoy said. “While we had wished many things had happened earlier, we were proud to be part of these transformative actions that President [Donald] Trump so courageously undertook. 

We did them for no political purpose. We did them for no secondary, utilitarian end. We did them because they were right and moral and consistent with America’s understanding of the world. We do this because it was in the interest of both of our peoples.

Israel’s alleged attack on the Iranian nuclear facility at Natanz hit an electrical substation about 150 feet underground, severely damaging not only the power distribution system but also a power cable that led to the centrifuges.

An Iranian official said that such an attack would have taken years of planning, adding that “the design of the enemy was very beautiful.”

The Jerusalem Post has learned that “the attack took out both the primary and backup electrical systems.” With the power suddenly cut, there was no orderly and careful shutdown of the centrifuges leading to a cascade failure with spectacular results. The Iranians are admitting that thousands of centrifuges were destroyed.

The Iranians are saying it was an inside job.

Ali Rabiei, the spokesperson for the Iranian government, stated on Tuesday that the attack was “not an external attack” and that a “traitor” has been identified, adding that “the necessary measures are being taken.”

An informed official in the Iranian Intelligence Ministry told the IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News Agency on Monday that the identity of the disruption’s cause had been found and that “necessary measures are being taken to arrest the main cause of the disruption in the electricity system of the Natanz complex.”

Experts familiar with Mossad and the way it operates are worried about the leaks coming from the government on details of the operation.

A number of former Israeli security officials expressed concern at the leaks being shared about the attack, with former Mossad chief Danny Yatom warning, in an interview with Army Radio on Monday, that it could impact Israel’s operational capability. “If indeed this thing is the result of an operation involving Israel, this leak is very serious,” said Yatom. “It is detrimental to the Israeli interest and the fight against Iranian attempts to acquire nuclear weapons. There are actions that must remain in the dark.”

“Once Israeli officials are quoted, it forces the Iranians to take revenge,” warned Yatom. “If the Iranians start investigating with the publication hovering over their heads that the people behind the attack are the Israelis or the Americans, they will leave no stone unturned. This has an impact on our operational capability.”

Israeli media — many of whom are tight with Mossad leadership — originally reported that it was a cyberattack that had caused the damage. That would have been consistent with Mossad’s operational procedures — misdirection and denial. They may have been trying to protect their assets in Iran, giving them a chance to escape.

But almost immediately, there were leaks from the government about an explosive device doing the damage. That’s highly unusual for a Mossad operation and it’s no wonder they’re worried.

What will Iran do in response?

An analysis published in the Iranian Kayhan newspaper, which is tied to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, called for the government to withdraw from the talks on the nuclear deal in Vienna and to punish Israel as a “decisive and deterrent response to the enemy’s sinister plan.”

Israel would hardly be “punished” if Iran pulled out of talks to revive the nuclear deal. It’s exactly what Israel wants. Removing sanctions from Tehran would unleash a wave of terror and violence across the Middle East that would threaten Israel.

This, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not allow.

Iran rejects third U.S. offer to launch negotiations for new nuke deal in exchange for lifting of some sanctions

Iran rejected a third US offer on Tuesday to launch negotiations over a new nuclear deal in exchange for the lifting of some American sanctions.

The US offer was leaked to the Politico website late on Monday, but was rejected in a matter of hours.

Iran said that it will not stop its 20% uranium enrichment before the US lifts all sanctions, Iranian state TV quoted an unnamed official. The official’s comment came as a reaction to the US media report that Washington would offer a new proposal involving reducing 20% enrichment to jump-start talks.

“A senior Iranian official tells Press TV that Tehran will stop its 20% uranium enrichment only if the US lifts ALL its sanctions on Iran first,” state-run Press TV said on its website.

“The official said Tehran will further reduce its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal if the US does not lift all sanctions, warning that Washington is rapidly running out of time,” it added.

The Iranian rejection of new talks was the third time the Islamic Republic had turned down a US offer to open talks about a new nuclear deal and the continuation of international sanctions against the regime.

The Biden administration has been seeking to engage Iran in talks about both sides resuming compliance with the deal, under which economic sanctions on Tehran were removed in return for curbs on Iran’s nuclear program to make it harder to develop a nuclear weapon.

At the same time, Washington has wanted to ensure that Iran fully returns to the limits in a way that could give it leverage to negotiate new concessions that were not part of the 2015 nuclear deal from Iran.

Some of the issues emphasized by US President Joe Biden’s administration – extending nuclear limits beyond 2030, limits on ballistic missile testing and limits on Iran’s aggressive behavior in the Middle East – reflect Israeli positions, though there is doubt in Jerusalem about how committed the president is to achieving these concessions….

US Needs to Be Prepared for Nuclear Threats to Homeland

In a hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee, Gen. Glen VanHerck, the commander of U.S. Northern Command, brought some necessary attention to the growing nuclear threats to the U.S. homeland.

Russia was at the top of his concerns. To match a more assertive nuclear doctrine, Russia is undertaking a massive nuclear modernization effort. This includes a first-of-its-kind heavy intercontinental ballistic missile that can carry a hypersonic glide vehicle that is able to evade U.S. early warning systems.

VanHerck also highlighted Russia’s entirely new capabilities under development, including a nuclear torpedo and a nuclear-powered cruise missile, which could have unlimited range.

China, once hoped to rise peacefully, has also been rapidly advancing its ability to reach the U.S. homeland with a nuclear weapon. It has deployed several road-mobile ICBMs and ballistic missile submarines, and, according to VanHerck, will eventually deploy advanced hypersonic weapons.

Adm. Charles Richard, commander of U.S. Strategic Command, has already warned us that China is on track to become a nuclear peer to the U.S. by the end of the decade.

And, of course, we can’t forget about North Korea and Iran.

Despite longstanding doubts about the rogue nation’s abilities, North Korea has made significant strides with its ballistic missile arsenal. Since 2017, North Korea developed three ICBMs that could target the U.S. homeland and recently paraded a new ICBM that could be even more powerful.

North Korea also has an active nuclear weapons program. It’s worth contrasting this with the state of the U.S.’ nuclear infrastructure, which—after being allowed to atrophy for years—is incapable of building a nuclear weapon.

And then there’s Iran, which continues to invest in missile and space technologies. Iran is steadily increasing its potential to eventually assemble an ICBM that could hold the continental United States at risk.

To address these threats, VanHerck homed in on missile defense, which provides the capability to deter an adversary by denying its ability to harm the U.S. That means that if an adversary sees the U.S. has a capability to stop a successful attack by shooting down a missile, an adversary will be less emboldened to press the launch button.

The first step to a strong missile defense is a good network of sensors and radars able to see the incoming threat. When discussing the growing cruise missile threat posed by Russia and China, VanHerck remarked, “We don’t want to be in a situation … where endgame defeat is our only option.”

He’s right on the money with this. Defeating advanced missiles must start with improving sensors. After all, seeing the threat is a prerequisite to being able to shoot it down.

One improvement the U.S. is making in this area is the development of the Long Range Discrimination Radar program in Alaska, which will improve the ability to track incoming missiles headed toward the homeland. Last year, Congress also provided funding for radar to be built in Hawaii to further expand radar coverage.

And of course, the U.S. needs to be able to intercept incoming missiles. Currently, the U.S. deploys 44 ground-based interceptors capable of defending against a limited ballistic missile attack.

Fielded in 2004, these interceptors are currently undergoing repairs and upgrades to ensure they will last through the end of the decade, but will ultimately need to be replaced by the upcoming Next Generation Interceptor program.

The next-generation interceptors will bolster the size, reliability, and capability of today’s interceptors, and are absolutely crucial to being able to defend against increasing threats from North Korea and Iran.

After over a year of delay in the contract award for the Next Generation Interceptor, it currently awaits approval on the desk of Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks.

In a response to a question from Sen. Deb Fischer, R-Neb., VanHerck was clear about the importance of moving forward with the Next Generation Interceptor: “It gives us extra capacity to go against threats that … could exceed our current [ground-based interceptor] inventory and … will give us capability because the threat continues to advance their capabilities.”

The deputy secretary’s decision to approve the Next Generation Interceptor program will surely be an easy one.

VanHerck’s testimony gives a useful reminder that missile defense must be a top priority. Threats to the U.S. homeland are clearly becoming increasingly challenging, and in turn, so is the task of fulfilling the United States’ moral obligation to protect its citizens from attack.

To realize this reality, the onus is on the Biden administration and Congress to ensure this critical priority receives the attention and funding that it deserves.

Republican foreign policy leaders in Congress are pressing Secretary of State Antony Blinken to fully disclose the contents of secret talks with South Korea that are believed to have paved the way for that country to hand Iran $1 billion as part of a ransom payment.

Reps. Bryan Steil (R., Wis.), Jim Banks (R., Ind.), and Greg Steube (R., Fla.) say the State Department is withholding from Congress key details about the Biden administration’s reported efforts to help South Korea skirt economic sanctions and pay Iran the billion-dollar ransom, which came after Tehran seized a South Korean tanker and its crew in January. Blinken dodged several questions on the matter when testifying earlier this month before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, prompting the lawmakers to launch a formal probe seeking answers.

In a letter sent Thursday to Blinken and obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, the lawmakers demand the State Department answer questions about whether it waived sanctions to enable the payment and took part in negotiations aimed at securing the cash for Iran. The lawmakers suspect the administration helped free the money—frozen abroad as a result of U.S. sanctions—as part of its efforts to coax Iran into negotiating a revamped nuclear deal.

The probe signals mounting GOP frustration with the Biden State Department as it makes a series of concessions to Iran aimed at enticing it back to the bargaining table. The administration has already waived United Nations sanctions on Iran and removed a key terror designation on the Tehran-armed Houthi militia groups in Yemen, which continue to attack U.S. allies in the region.

As U.S.-Iran envoy Robert Malley seeks direct talks with Iran, Republicans on the House Foreign Affairs and Armed Services Committees have been mostly left in the dark. Malley and other senior officials have not briefed them on their diplomatic efforts and have repeatedly dodged questions about the ransom payment, as well as other reported concessions, such as easing travel restrictions on Iranian officials. Republicans and many of their Democratic colleagues remain concerned the Biden administration will move forward with sanctions relief, despite public promises that this would not occur before Iran demonstrates a willingness to roll back its nuclear program.

Steil petitioned the Treasury Department in early March to come clean about its suspected role in facilitating South Korea’s ransom payment. Iran is using the tanker as leverage to pressure South Korea into freeing some $7 billion in oil revenues that are tied up in the country. South Korean officials said they consulted with the United States before releasing the money, which likely could not have been moved without the administration’s consent.

The Treasury Department, in response to Steil’s initial letter, would not provide the lawmaker with the information he requested, directing him instead to contact the State Department, according to a copy of that response letter viewed by the Free Beacon.

“The Biden administration appears to be using loopholes when dealing with the Iranian regime,” Steil told the Free Beacon. “I am again asking direct, yes or no questions on the United States’ involvement in facilitating a South Korean ransom payment to Iran. If the Biden administration is involved in transferring funds to Iran, Congress and the American people must be informed.”

Now, Steil, Banks, and Steube are pressing Blinken for concrete answers about whether the United States permitted Iran to access the billion dollars through a financial mechanism known as the Swiss Humanitarian Trade Arrangement. The SHTA was created to enable certain humanitarian-related transactions with Iran that would otherwise be considered sanctionable.

Banks, an Armed Services Committee member and chairman of the Republican Study Committee, Congress’s largest conservative caucus, told the Free Beacon he and his colleagues will not stop leading investigations into the matter until the administration “comes clean.”

“The Biden administration has to come clean: Did you or did you not facilitate sanctions relief for the thugs in Tehran? Because it sure looks like you did,” Banks said. “Let me be very clear: The RSC will be getting to the bottom of this.”…

The United States has agreed to the release of $3 billion in Iranian funds that have been frozen in Iraq, Oman and South Korea due to Washington’s sanctions, Iranian trade official Hamid Hosseini told the semi-official Fars news agency on Sunday.

Hosseini, board member of the Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce, had tweeted on Friday that Washington approved the release of frozen Iranian assets at the Trade Bank of Iraq, without mentioning the value of the assets.

Hosseini on Sunday confirmed that the US agreed to the release of $3 billion in Iranian frozen assets in the three countries.

US sanctions imposed by former President Donald Trump have prevented Iran from accessing tens of billions of its assets in foreign banks.

Iranian frozen assets in Iraq amount to more than $6 billion, according to Iranian officials.

The head of the Iran-South Korea Chamber of Commerce said in October Iranian frozen funds in South Korea are worth $8.5 billion and added that their release depended on the outcome of the US presidential election.

Iranian officials have not commented on the value of Iran’s frozen assets in Oman.

Iran’s economy has been hit hard since 2018 when Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers and reimposed sweeping sanctions on the country.

Iran’s chances of gaining access to billions of dollars of its frozen assets abroad have risen significantly since Trump, who pursued a policy of “maximum pressure” against Tehran, left the White House….

Last month, South Korea said it reached an agreement with Iran over the release of Tehran’s frozen funds in its banks but signalled that the agreement was effectively subject to US approval.

While Biden may well be looking for ways to save face in a standoff with Iran, he just gave the thumbs up for South Korea to release $7 billion in assets in Iran. Biden likely hopes this gesture will move Iran closer to negotiations with the U.S. If Biden is lucky, this money will lead Iran to soften its stance and return to the negotiating table, so as to restart the disastrous Iran nuclear deal that saw over $100 billion flow into the coffers of the Islamic Republic. That was a windfall that allowed the mullahs to continue their jihad in the region and globally; another such windfall is in the offing.

To facilitate the trade with Iran of humanitarian items, such as medicine and medical equipment, South Korea has been seeking to use a Swiss channel backed by the U.S., known as the Swiss Humanitarian Trade Arrangement (SHTA), to use the money through Swiss companies’ sales of goods to Iran.

But the trade of humanitarian items just frees up money for other activities. Who could forget Iran’s deceptions? These include its violation of the nuclear deal, and its own admission to having done so, as well as its boastful, repeated threats and provocations regarding its military capabilities. Yet far too many Western leaders have never recognized the implications of all this.

The Iranian assets locked in South Korea will be released after consultations with the United States, the foreign ministry said Tuesday, after Iran claimed it has reached a deal with Seoul on how to transfer and use the frozen money.

According to Iran’s government website, the agreement was reached Monday (Tehran time) during the meeting between Iran’s Central Bank Gov. Abdolnaser Hemmati and South Korean Ambassador to Iran Ryu Jeong-hyun.

It said that the two sides agreed on the destinations for the transfer and that the Iranian central bank informed Seoul of the amount of the money it wants to be transferred.

Tehran has been pressuring Seoul to unblock about US$7 billion of its assets frozen in two South Korean banks due to U.S. sanctions. Seoul has been in talks with Washington on ways to release the money without violating the sanctions, including expanding humanitarian trade with the Middle Eastern country.

“Our government has been in talks with Iran about ways to use the frozen assets, and the Iran side has expressed its consent to the proposals we have made,” the foreign ministry said without providing further details of the proposals.

“The actual unfreezing of the assets will be carried out through consultations with related countries, including the United States,” the ministry said.

Earlier this month, a foreign ministry official said Seoul was finalizing talks with Washington about using some of the frozen funds to pay Tehran’s U.N. dues in arrears, to which the Islamic republic has also agreed.

Representative Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.), joined by nearly three dozen other Democrats on Tuesday, sent a letter to President Biden expressing legitimate concern over his having unilateral control of the nuclear codes:

Vesting one person with this authority entails real risks.

Past presidents have threatened to attack other countries with nuclear weapons or [have] exhibited behavior that caused [foreign] officials concern about the president’s judgment….

While any president would presumably consult with advisors before ordering a nuclear attack, there is no requirement to do so. The military is obligated to carry out the order if they assess it is legal under the laws of war.

Under the current posture of U.S. nuclear forces, that attack could happen in minutes.

While Democrats feigned concern over control of the nuclear codes — the 45-pound briefcase called the “nuclear football” — when Donald Trump was in the White House, this time their concerns are likely real.

During Monday’s ceremony honoring Americans who have died from COVID, Joe Biden suffered a massive brain freeze:

The only way to spare more pain and more loss, the only way … these millstones no longer mark our national mourning … these milestones, I should say, no longer … no longer moke … mark our national mourning.

On Tuesday, during a virtual phone call from the White House to a childcare worker in Columbus, Ohio, Biden was asked, “When are you going to see us in Columbus?” Biden answered, “Well, I’m going to be back in Columbus,” adding:

I was in Columbus, actually now it’s about literally 35 days or so ago … I came through on a whistle-stop on a train.

The actual event in Ohio occurred on September 30, 146 days ago, and it was in Cleveland, not Columbus.

A virtual cottage industry has sprung up compiling Biden’s gaffes. For those with the stomach for it, The Scoop has a ten-minute-long video of his more famous, or infamous, gaffes.

During the campaign, a joke was made about Biden’s dementia that might, if he were to become president, cause him to set off nuclear war by mistake, thinking he was pushing the button on the TV remote.

Now, considering that he is the present occupant of the Oval Office, it’s no joke.

Iran demands end to US and EU sanctions, threatens to block UN snap inspections of nuclear sites

Although significant, Iran’s new threat amounts to nothing, since by its own admission, it has already long ago violated the nuclear deal. That deal was based on lies to begin with. Despite the continuing evidence that indicates how unreliable Iran has been about keeping its word, the West continues to place its hope in negotiations with Iran, which only serves to further stoke the regime’s aggression. It also buys time for the regime to build a nuclear bomb.

Ayatollah Khamenei has already declared in no uncertain terms: “Enemies cannot do a damn thing against the Islamic Republic and Islam’s power is growing.” Far too many Western leaders, however, choose not to believe him, at their own peril.

Iran’s government on Monday warned that it would end the U.N. nuclear watchdog’s ability to conduct snap inspections of nuclear sites in the country unless the U.S. and European countries involved in the 2015 nuclear accord fulfill their end of the agreement and lift sanctions.

A spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry made the announcement, according to Reuters, setting a Feb. 21 deadline for the U.S. and other countries to relax sanctions reimposed after the U.S. left the nuclear accord in 2017 under the Trump administration.

“If others do not fulfill their obligations by Feb. 21, the government is obliged to suspend the voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol,” spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said, according to the news service.

“It does not mean ending all inspections by the U.N. nuclear watchdog. … All these steps are reversible if the other party changes its path and honours its obligations,” he continued.

A bipartisan group of more than 100 lawmakers has called on President Biden to “remain firm” in his dealings with Iran, urging the administration to hold the Tehran accountable for its increased nuclear enrichment in the years following the U.S. departure from the accord….

Biden says he “will seek to revive the nuclear deal, but insists that Iran must first reverse its nuclear steps.” But he’s in a standoff with Iran’s supreme leader Khamenei, who said: “If they want Iran to return to its JCPOA commitments, the US must completely lift sanctions. And not just verbally on the paper. They must revoke the sanctions in action.”

Biden is deluding himself if he thinks that any nuke deal with Iran will be authentic. He is following in the disastrous steps of Barack Obama, who enabled Iran to increase its nuclear capabilities and deceive naïve infidel countries. And still Biden’s willingness to return to the deal isn’t enough for Khamenei, who knows exactly what Iran is planning.

Iran-based dissidents — many who have been imprisoned by the regime — are not so easily fooled. They are urging Biden to maintain sanctions, knowing all too well about the nature of the deceitful, jihadist regime which aims to build a nuclear bomb.

In late January, Israel announced that attack plans against Iran were being revised in light of Biden’s return to the nuclear deal. This was a prudent move in light of  Iran’s violation of the previous nuclear deal under the Obama administration, and its own admission to having violated the deal, as well as its boastful, repeated threats and provocations regarding its military capabilities.

Asked if the United States will lift sanctions first to get Iran back to the negotiating table, Biden replied: “no” in an interview with CBS News, which was recorded on Friday but released on Sunday ahead of the Super Bowl.

Donald Trump, the former president, unilaterally withdrew the US in 2018 from the atomic deal, which saw Iran agree to limit its enrichment of uranium in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions. Biden has said he will seek to revive the deal, but insisted that Iranmust first reverse its nuclear steps, creating a contest of wills between the nations.

Asked if Iran had to stop enriching uranium first, Biden nodded. It was not clear exactly what he meant, as Iran is permitted to enrich uranium under the 2015 nuclear deal within certain limits.

“Will the US lift sanctions first in order to get Iran back to the negotiating table?” CBS News anchor Norah O’Donnell asked.

“No,” Biden responded.

“They have to stop enriching uranium first?” O’Donnell asked. Biden nodded.

Earlier on Sunday Iran’s supreme leader urged the US to lift all sanctions if it wants the country to live up to commitments under its nuclear deal with world powers, according to state TV.

In his first comments on the matter since Biden took office, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was quoted as saying: “If (the US) wants Iran to return to its commitments, it must lift all sanctions in practice, then we will do verification then we will return to our commitments.”

“This is the definitive and irreversible policy of the Islamic Republic, and all of the country’s officials are unanimous on this, and no one will deviate from it,” Khamenei added Sunday, reiterating Iranian leaders’ previous remarks that the US must ease its sanctions before Iran comes back into compliance….

Head Of Strategic Command Says U.S. Nuke War With China, Russia a “Real Possibility”

The US Strategic Command (STRATCOM) warns that a nuclear war with Russia and China is a “real possibility” unless the U.S. beefs up its nuclear arsenal.

“There is a real possibility that a regional crisis with Russia or China could escalate quickly to a conflict involving nuclear weapons if they perceived a conventional loss would threaten the regime or state,” Vice Adm. Charles Richard wrote in the February edition of the US Naval Institute’s monthly magazine.

In response, the U.S. Military must “shift its principal assumption from ‘nuclear employment is not possible’ to ‘nuclear employment is a very real possibility,’ and act to meet and deter that reality,” according to Richard.

The STRATCOM chief also asserted that Russia and China “have begun to aggressively challenge international norms and global peace using instruments of power and threats of force in ways not seen since the height of the Cold War.”

Despite the fact that Beijing only has around 320 nuclear warheads compared to the United States’ 6,000, Richard said America would need to modernize its stockpile.

“Even if Beijing doubles its arsenal over the next decade, as the China hawks are predicting, it will still be small compared to Washington’s,” writes Dave DeCamp. “The US would have to eliminate a good amount of its arsenal to convince Beijing to participate in arms control agreements.”

The warning was given as the USS ‘John S. McCain’ was sent for the first time by the Biden administration into the South China Sea near Chinese-controlled islands.

The US Navy said the warship was asserting “navigational rights and freedoms in the vicinity of the Parcel Islands, consistent with international law.”

As we previously highlighted, former Australian Army Major-General and current Senator Jim Molan also sounded the alarm bell on tensions between the United States and China.

“In 1991, the US Navy was 600 warships strong. Now it’s less than 300,” he pointed out, adding, “We are likely in the next three to five years or in the next five to ten years to be involved in a war between China and the United States.”

Last year, Henry Kissinger also cautioned that a catastrophic conflict between America and China that will be “worse than world wars” is inevitable unless the two sides sort out their differences.

 

American-Israel diplomatic crisis brewing: ‘Nothing to discuss with Biden’ if he returns to Iran deal

Israel, as is well known, faces the most imminent and direct threat from Iran. Congressional testimony revealed that Iran may have received $33.6 billion in secret payments facilitated by Obama administration.

Obama also used the national security apparatus to spy on Americans opposed to Islamic terrorists.

Israel’s Iran documents have long showed that the nuclear deal was built on lies, and Iran even admitted its deception. Under Biden, Israel is on its own. There really is nothing left to discuss. No one did as much as the Trump administration did for the state of Israel.

Israeli television on Wednesday reported that Jerusalem is warning an American return to the former terms of the nuclear deal with Iran under President Joe Biden could lead the countries to a crisis in relations.

Channel 12 news cited “a very senior Israeli official” as saying: “If Biden adopts Obama’s plan, we will have nothing to talk about with him.” The official was referencing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action signed by former president Barack Obama in 2015.
The official did not elaborate further.

The comments came just a day after Biden’s nominee for secretary of state Antony Blinken pledged to senators at his confirmation hearing that he would engage with Israel and its Arab allies before reentering the JCPOA. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ambassador to the US Ron Dermer had called on Biden to do just that several weeks earlier.

Biden has made clear that a JCPOA return is his goal, but that he will only agree to do so if Iran returns to compliance with the deal first.

The president has also said he intends to enter subsequent negotiations to reach a “longer and stronger” deal with Tehran that would also address its ballistic missile program and regional hegemony. Iran, though, has said it is not interested in reaching any subsequent agreements and has also warned that it won’t return to compliance with the JCPOA until the US lifts sanctions against Tehran.

The premier is believed to support a more confrontational approach to dealing with Biden’s plans to reenter the JCPOA, while others in the security establishment have argued that it would be better to try and keep disputes with the new American administration behind closed doors and try to influence Biden to be as tough as possible on Iran, even if he returns to the deal.

Now that Biden is president, Netanyahu is slated to convene a series of discussions on Iran with various bodies including the National Security Council, Defense Ministry, Foreign Ministry, Israel Defence Forces and Mossad, Hebrew media reported.

According to Channel 12, the key theme of those discussions will be Israel not allowing Iran to get nuclear weapons. Biden has said he has the same goal.

Israeli-American relations reached a nadir toward the end of the Obama presidency, in large part due to Netanyahu’s clashes with his administration over the Iran deal.

Biden has argued that while he would like to address Iran’s ballistic missile program and regional hegemony, the most pressing issue is its nuclear program, and must be dealt with first. Trudeau says ‘Canadians and President Biden’ share values right after Keystone XL pipeline cancelled

Oh, Canada:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Friday that he and all Canadians shared values with President Biden, including in the “fight against climate change as a way of growing the economy.” This coming after the revoking of the Keystone XL Pipeline project by President Biden, costing Canada a potential 60,000 jobs.

In a statement released Wednesday, Trudeau said that he was “disappointed” in Biden’s decision to axe the project, but went on to say that he looked forward to combat climate change and reduce pollution with the new US president.

Insanity Wrap would first like to pass along our condolences to our Canadian friends, trapped all these years with Prime Minister Zoolander.

We’d also like to address Canada’s surprisingly supine PM directly: Pipelines use less energy and generate less carbon and risk than trains or trucks do. And you can’t produce the wealth necessary to fight climate change or whatever without jobs. But we’re sure you knew all this already, you sad little suckup.

Dems held the country hostage for months and got rewarded handsomely for it.
