Biden nominates David Chipman for Director of ATF
Today, the president nominated former ATF agent and staunch anti-gun advocate David Chipman for the position of director of the ATF. Chipman's resume includes stints working for anti-gun groups Everytown for Gun Safety, and currently the Giffords gun control group. During his time as an ATF agent, he was also involved in the Waco massacre as the case agent, which you'll remember as the time the government burned down a building full of little kids. It's difficult for me to remain objective about this, since this nomination would place someone at the reigns of the agency responsible for regulating the firearms industry and gun ownership who is completely opposed to private ownership of guns.

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- During a press conference on Thursday, President Biden announced that he would once again be targeting law-abiding gun owners by ordering ATF to develop two new restrictive regulations. Aiming to accessorize the Department of Justice’s anti-gun leadership team, Biden announced his nomination of gun control lobbyist David Chipman for Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
It’s hard to imagine choosing a nominee who is more hostile to the rights of American gun owners than Chipman.
David Chipman’s current employer, Giffords, co-founded by the United States Senator Mark Kelly, filed a brief in the landmark Second Amendment case, District of Columbia v. Heller. The brief argued that “The Second Amendment Does Not Limit the Options Available to Cities to Address the Problem of Gun Violence.” Notably, Giffords argued that the District’s complete ban on the possession of handguns by law-abiding Americans was constitutional. Such an interpretation would have completely eviscerated the Second Amendment.
ATF operates on a “normal” backlog of 9-12 months for NFA applications. Even with this backlog and despite the registry being nearly 90 years old, as of 2020 there were only 6.6 million firearms in the registry. And, in recent years ATF has had the capacity to process only about 350,000 NFA forms per year. Even using the most conservative estimate for the number of AR-15s in America, with ATF’s current forms processing capacity, the agency would clear the backlog in NFA forms sometime around 2070. And, that’s only if the agency didn’t process a single NFA form for a suppressor, short-barreled rifle, or other NFA firearm.
As an agent with ATF for over two decades, Chipman is familiar with the agency’s NFA form processing capacity. He likely sees such a delay as a feature rather than a defect.
Chipman reiterated his wish to subject existing AR-15s to the NFA in a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” last year, but he further explained his position on future sales: “The biggest challenge we have is sheer numbers. It has been estimated that there are around 15 million assault rifles currently in circulation. I believe we should ban the future production and sale to civilians and afford current owners of these firearms the ability to license these particular guns with ATF under the National Firearms Act.”
Chipman Has Repeatedly Lied to Further his Gun Ban Agenda
Regular readers of NRA-ILA alerts are likely familiar with Chipman’s lies.
In the same Reddit “Ask Me Anything” discussed above, Chipman made the absurd claim that “At Waco, cult members used 2 .50 caliber Barretts to shoot down two Texas Air National Guard helicopters. Point, it is true we are fortunate they are not used in crime more often. The victims of drug lords in Mexico are not so lucky. America plays a role in fueling the violence south of the border.” Needless to say, no helicopters were “shot down” “at Waco.”
In testimony before the House Judiciary Committee in 2019, Chipman claimed that the American gun market was “flooded” with “foreign-made ARs.” Anyone even remotely familiar with the American gun market knows that this claim is false. Not only are nearly all AR-15s made in America, but continued strong demand for ARs seems to also refute his notion that the market was “flooded.”
It is clear that, if confirmed, Chipman would use every tool at his disposal to attack the rights of law-abiding American gun owners.
Chipman’s views on the Second Amendment and his work as a gun prohibitionist should disqualify him from serving as the Director of the ATF.

Fearless Second Amendment defender and Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert responded to installed puppet Joe Biden’s ridiculous gun control executive actions with a truth bomb on Twitter.
Biden dutifully obeyed the “impatient activists” pushing to disarm Americans with his series of executive actions designed to degrade and dismantle the Second Amendment to the Constitution, which states that the right to keep and bear arms “shall not be infringed.” The rights outlined in the Constitution are meaningless unless Americans understand their rights and fight for them.
During his embarrassing, error-ridden speech, Biden announced David Chipman as his pick to run the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) (which Biden referred to as the “AFT” twice). Chipman is a gun control activist who notoriously lied about events that occurred in in Waco in 1993, claiming that members of the Branch Davidian sect “shot down two helicopters during a standoff with federal agents”, a blatant lie.
“Though initially reluctant, Attorney General Janet Reno ended up approving a plan to fire CS gas (a form of tear gas) into the Mount Carmel compound to try and force out the Davidians. Just after 6 a.m. on April 19, 1993, FBI agents used two specially equipped tanks to penetrate the compound and deposit some 400 containers of gas inside.
Soon after the attack ended, around 12 pm, several fires simultaneously broke out around the compound, and gunfire was heard inside. Safety concerns prevented firefighters from entering Mount Carmel immediately, and the flames spread quickly and engulfed the property.
Though nine Davidians were able to escape, investigators later found 76 bodies inside the compound, including 25 children. Some of them, including [David] Koresh, had fatal gunshot wounds, suggesting suicide or murder-suicide.”
According to a must-read article at lawofficer.com, “Chipman’s Twitter account is now private and in recent days, he deleted more than 1000 tweets.” Chipman is “senior policy adviser” to former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ gun grabbing organization.
Citing founding father George Mason‘s quote: “To disarm the people is the most effectual way to enslave them,” Boebert said in part that “Democrats & their allies seek to enslave and control the people of the United States and every aspect of their lives.”
RAIR Foundation USA’s Amy Mek is also a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. Last month Mek Tweeted “Nazi Germany established gun control in 1938 & from 1939 to 1945, Millions of Jews & others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up & exterminated”, she said. “I refuse to be a victim!”, she continued.
Russian Panic, NATO Send thousands of troops to join Ukraine to strengthen its borders

Russia now has more troops along its border with Ukraine than at any time since 2014, and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky has little hope that war can be avoided. Moscow’s demands are impossible to meet.
“A diplomatic solution…requires a radical change in the position of the Kyiv authorities,” said Konstantin Sivkov, a Moscow-based military analyst. “If the Kyiv authorities agree to the recognition of the federal structure of Ukraine, if the authorities agree to the equal status of the Russian language in Ukraine along with the Ukrainian language, then the whole problem in [Donbas] will be removed,” he said.
The Ukrainians fear that giving Russia further opportunity to undermine the government in Kyiv will only result in the slow erosion of their independence.
“The cease-fire is over…and President Zelensky’s strategy of negotiating something with Moscow is generally over,” said Mykola Kapitonenko, an associate professor at the Institute of International Relations in Kyiv and consultant to Ukraine’s parliamentary committee on foreign affairs.
It is clear that Ukraine would prefer to find [a] diplomatic solution, but perhaps the Ukrainian president’s biggest mistake was that “he was too naive by thinking that he could reach a good deal with Putin and will do it on Ukrainian terms,” said Alyona Getmanchuk, director of the New Europe Center, a think tank in Kyiv.
The U.S. and European leaders have raised the alarm over the amassing of Moscow’s forces on the Ukrainian border. Washington expressed concern that “Russia now has more troops on the border with Ukraine than at any time since 2014,” according to White House press secretary Jen Psaki. Russia annexed Ukraine’s Crimea Peninsula that year and threw its support behind the separatists in the country’s east.
Ukraine is a corrupt, authoritarian kleptocracy and not worth spilling any American blood over. But an easy win for Putin in Ukraine would empower the Russian dictator in his efforts to reconstitute the territory of the old Soviet Union. An emboldened Putin would strike fear into the countries of Eastern Europe and the Baltic region.
The U.S. has dispatched two warships to the Black Sea to keep an eye on the situation.
The United States will send two warships to the Black Sea next week amid a Russian build up of military forces along its border with Ukraine, the Turkish government said Friday.
NATO ally Turkey said the two U.S. warships would reach the Black Sea from Wednesday to Thursday after Washington notified Ankara of the move a little over two weeks ago.
“A notice was sent to us 15 days ago via diplomatic channels that two U.S. warships would pass to the Black Sea, in line with the Montreux Convention,” a 1936 treaty which gave Ankara control of the Black Sea’s straits, according to Turkey’s foreign ministry, Reuters reported. “The ships will remain in the Black Sea until May 4.”
Putin would consider a war with Ukraine a win if he could detach a couple of eastern provinces from the government and win a few diplomatic concessions. The provinces have a majority of Russian-speaking populations and have been a source of friction with the national government for decades.
But Kyiv cannot stand by and watch Ukraine get dismembered. They will fight. Despite warnings from Germany, France, and the U.S., Putin will probably get his “splendid little war” and, to the surprise of no one, end up the victor.

Two-hundred sixty-one California state prisoners have requested transfers to facilities that house the opposite gender since a new law went into effect on Jan. 1 — and 255 of them have requested to move from a male to a female corrections facility.
The law, SB 132, provides that a prisoner who self-identifies who is “transgender, nonbinary, or intersex” must be “addressed in a manner consistent with the incarcerated individual’s gender identity,” and be “housed at a correctional facility designated for men or women based on the individual’s preference.” The law applies “regardless of anatomy.” Governor Gavin Newsom signed the law last September, declaring on that occasion that “our march toward equality takes an additional step forward.”
The Los Angeles Timesreported Monday that while only a few transfers have been approved thus far, none has been rejected:
Just over 1% of California’s prison population — or 1,129 inmates — have identified as nonbinary, intersex or transgender, according to the corrections department, populations that experience excessive violence in prison. A 2007 UC Irvine study that included interviews with 39 transgender inmates found that the rate of sexual assault is 13 times higher for transgender people, with 59% reporting experiencing such encounters.
So far, the prison system has transferred four inmates to the Chowchilla women’s prison, approved 21 gender-based housing requests and denied none. Of the 261 requests, all but six asked to be housed at a women’s facility.
…Some prisoners are also concerned that inmates are making false claims about their gender identity in order to transfer to women’s prisons and say staffers have told them that this has slowed the process.
The Times adds that several inmates are thought to have applied “under false pretenses” and some female prisoners are afraid.
Women’s groups in Canada held a protest last month to urge the removal of biological males from women’s prison facilities.

American law has long recognized the importance of parental rights. A parent’s right to oversee the care, education, and control of his or her child is guaranteed by the 14th Amendment and was confirmed by the Supreme Court in 1923, in Meyer v. Nebraska, and as recently as 2000, in Troxel v. Granville.
To raise and educate a child as parents see fit is—and always has been—on a par with the other fundamental, constitutionally guaranteed rights.
Worryingly, one school district in Maryland is acting like parental rights are no longer valid.
In Montgomery County, Maryland, educators are actively keeping information about something as critical as a student’s gender identity preference hidden from parents—an action in direct contravention of legally guaranteed parental rights, and in violation of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
In response, two families have sued the Montgomery County Board of Education. The suit aims to enforce their rights to access information about their children’s gender identity, which is generated and retained by Montgomery County schools pursuant to a 2019 policy.
This policy enables Montgomery County Board of Education personnel to evaluate minors about sexual matters, allows minors of any age to transition socially to a different gender identity at school without parental notice or consent, and requires personnel to facilitate the transition with the use of the child’s “preferred pronouns.”
It also permits students to use the restroom that aligns with their “gender identity,” stating that while “[s]ome students may feel uncomfortable with a transgender student using the same sex-specific facility,” that “discomfort is not a reason to deny access to the transgender student.
School administrators and counseling staff members, the policy states, should work with students to “address their discomfort to foster understanding of gender identity and to create a school culture that respects and values all students.”
Certainly, the parents of students made to share sex-specific spaces with students of the opposite sex would want to know this information. But the Montgomery County Board of Education policy forbids it.
Stunningly, the policy prohibits personnel from communicating with parents on any of the above actions and goes so far as to direct teachers and staff to deceive parents by reverting to a child’s birth name and corresponding pronouns whenever a child’s parents are present.
According to court filings, the Montgomery County Board of Education claims it is acting in the best interests of the minors involved by protecting them from the “unsupportive” parents of those children.
In its motion to dismiss, the Montgomery County Board of Education represented that disclosure to parents who are “not supportive … might expose the student to harm” and that “gender-nonconforming students face significant dangers of abuse at home from unsupportive families.”
The Montgomery County Board of Education policy requires that “the principal or identified staff member should speak with the student to ascertain the level of support the student either receives or anticipates receiving from home.”
By cloaking critically important information about one’s child under the guise that unsupportive parents are “dangerous” to their children, schools are given license to effectively label “gender critical” parents as abusive without the benefit of due process protections.
Under some cock-eyed theory of “harm at home,” the Montgomery County Board of Education substitutes schools for parents and deprives all parents in the county school system of their fundamental right to vital information based on nothing but a hunch.
Montgomery County parents not only have the U.S. Constitution and the Maryland Constitution on their side, they have the protections of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act as well. Specifically, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act gives parents of minors rights regarding their children’s education records, with the only exceptions being a court order or specific state law to the contrary.
These rights include a right to access their children’s education records, to seek amendment of those education records, and to consent to disclosure of personally identifiable information. Parents whose Family Education Rights and Privacy Act rights are violated can file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education (in addition to any private legal action).
Montgomery County is not alone in bypassing parental consent and notification when it comes to students’ gender transitions. It’s quite possible the gender transition nightmare that Jay Keck experienced with his autistic daughter—facilitated and concealed by school officials in a Chicago suburb—could happen to other parents who are not informed of their rights.
With full awareness of her mental health challenges, school officials helped Keck’s daughter socially transition by using her preferred pronouns, giving her access to a gender-neutral restroom, and keeping it all from her parents.
When Keck and his wife discovered their child’s secondary identity and requested school officials treat her in accordance with her biological sex, they were continually defied.
For proof of school districts’ increasingly cavalier attitudes toward parental rights, see the Metropolitan School District policy in Madison, Wisconsin, that requires staff to keep a student’s gender identity “confidential” from parents if the student does not consent to the information being shared.
Or, see the guide on the Los Angeles Unified School District’s website, which instructs teachers to provide whatever “services” they can for transitioning students with unsupportive parents.
Even the National Education Association, a labor union for teachers across the nation, encourages teachers to hide a student’s gender identity from parents unless they are “required to [reveal it] by law.”
While the public school districts and their unions may foolishly assume they know better than parents about what to do when it comes to a child’s “gender identity,” the Constitution and other federal law do not grant them the authority to circumvent parental consent or notification in these matters.
Despite the whims of the board of education, a parent’s rights do not end at the schoolhouse door. But if not eliminated, the unconscionable policy of the Montgomery County Board of Education will be the beginning of a steep and precipitous decline in protections for those rights.

Naomi Wolf, a former advisor to President Bill Clinton, cultural critic, New York Times best-selling author (The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot), and CEO of the tech company Daily Clout, has crossed the political aisle to join mostly lone conservative voices warning forcefully against both a national and global rollout of COVID-19 vaccine passports.
In recent weeks, the liberal author has appeared on conservative TV and talk-radio shows, such as Fox News’s The Next Revolution with Steve Hilton and The Eric Metaxas Show, to signal the midnight cryon vaccine passports, which she contends are part of “a carefully constructed, systematic, biofascist rollout of a new biosecurity state involving the constant upgrade to vaccinations, constant monitoring…and 360 degree surveillance.”
“Once this rolls out you don’t have a choice about being part of the system,” cautioned Wolf in a recent interview with author (Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy; Miracles) and conservative radio talk show host Eric Metaxas.
A stalwart supporter of exposing the potential harms of COVID-19 vaccines, with an instinct to question everything, Wolf told Metaxas, “Nothing is supposed to be off-limits intellectually [in America]…. [Yet] there is [currently] a mantra of sanctity being woven around the mere act of vaccination…. I am not an anti-vaxxer but I am certainly anti-going back to the Middle Ages and leaving the Enlightenment behind and having a secular priesthood that says what we are and what we are not allowed to question.”
COVID-19 vaccination programs are sprouting up en masse across the United States. Funding these plans are billionaires such as Bill and Melinda Gates, who pour millions annually into high-profile media companies, including the New York Times, the Guardian, National Public Radio, as well as the corporation Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Informed Wolf, the CDC receives a staggering “$12–17 million a year” from the Gates Foundation.
Several Democrat-run states are already floating test trials of the so-called vaccine passports. New York, for example, launched its voluntary Excelsior Pass in March. So far, Republican-led states are fiercely resisting. Governors Ron DeSantis (Florida) and Greg Abbott (Texas) recently signed executive orders banning legislation requiring proof of vaccination.
On April 6, the White House announced that the Biden administration would not be supporting or working with developers to establish a national “vaccine passport,” but Wolf is skeptical.
She decried the passports as a global rollout, backed by corporate interests and funding: “Microsoft has a contract to build the vaccine passport. They already have a prototype. It’s a completely closed circle.”
“I cannot stress this enough,” continued Wolf. “The vaccine passport is the social credit system that China has. It doesn’t lead to it; it is that. It takes no engineering; it takes literally the flick of the backend. I’m talking as a tech CEO … and it takes no special addition to merge your Google Wallet or your Apple Pay or your Paypal with your vaccine status.”
“It’s a China-style suppression of our liberties on a grand scale,” she went on to say, slamming the New York Times for “colluding” in “a very, very hideous and quite systematic process of constructing anyone who critiques what is clearly a biofascist rollout of a new biosecurity state.”
“A Highly Orchestrated Propaganda Campaign“
As a Rhodes Scholar, Democratic advisor, Jewish, a resident of urban New York City and San Francisco, Wolf is indeed “in the right tribe.” “But just to question Biden or China’s influence on the United States or vaccine fascism ‘otherizes’ me in the camp of yokels that are being constructed by the New York Times. It declasses me, de-platforms me, risks censoring me, people won’t invite me to their conferences anymore. That’s exactly how the Nationalist Socialists consolidated power in 1933; it’s ugly and it’s obvious this is happening.”
Wolf accuses the New YorkTimes, which allegedly receives millions from the Gates Foundation each year (which might affect its coverage) of inventing “a kind of caricature of white fundamentalists … who are too stupid to accept Dr. Fauci … and are anti-science because they don’t necessarily think Pfizer has all the answers…. It’s really offensive, I think it’s racist, and they shouldn’t do it.”
Metaxas, a self-described white evangelical, and a skilled speaker, rarely wanting for a witty retort, was admittedly rendered speechless at multiple points in the conversation. “What they’re doing, as they demonize groups of people,” he finally said, “[They] are saying that these people [white evangelicals] are stupid and anti-science…. They [the New York Times] are enabling the cancel culture to move forward in the way it did in Germany in the 1930s…. If you question it, you have to ask, do I want to get in trouble.”
Responded Wolf, “This is a technique of creating an insider’s and outsider’s society, then starting to shove opportunity to those who go along and close down jobs, professional advancement to those who don’t go along, it’s absolutely classic of building a fascist society.”
Who Is Really Behind this Global Takeover?
World leaders ambitiously chasing after power in their mission to “stop the spread” of COVID-19 seem to be both in concert with and competing against one another to see who can achieve complete control of the citizenry, following China’s lead in an attempt to curb individual freedoms completely. Are they really so blind?
“In America, this biofascism is being led by Democrats,” declared Wolf. “It’s the Republicans who are the sole bulwark that I’m working with to try to stop some of the worst of this legislation. But in Britain, it’s a Tory government that’s rolling it out. In Canada, it’s Premier Trudeau. In Germany it’s Merkel. This is not partisan. We have to call it as we see it. These are directives coming down probably from a hellish amalgam of the World Economic Forum, China, and Bill Gates, and two or three tech bros going along for the billions.”
Wolf, who investigated Gates in 2017, expounded on the Microsoft founder’s profit margins, along with those of Amazon and Google, since the start of the virus outbreak in March 2020. “They are up around $22-100 billion dollars,” she reported.
The monumental investment on the part of technocrats in this grand design to remove freedom from the face of Western civilization could not be more apparent. Wolf detailed Gates’s deep-pocket funding of “geoengineering technology.” “The patent [to this technology] is owned by Silicon venturers in Silicon Valley and Bill Gates, who say that if you don’t continue to do it once you’ve started the world faces catastrophic warming.”
She further noted that the tech giants and Gates, “having dominated the computer space, want to colonize medicine and colonize the government as business models. The pandemic and buying up of influencers allow them to be the source for the updates and the boosters this vaccine will require, according to Moderna’s own site.”
But what do most Americans know about Bill Gates and his foundation? Wolf’s portrayal is grim. Allegedly, Gates “bought up a bunch of lawmakers at Harvard and Stanford and the department of energy, and the reason he wants to do this is to coat the globe in chalk dust or sulfates to prevent the sun from shining…. It may sound like a science fiction novel but the reporting is MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Bloomberg, Opinion.”
What’s Going on in Israel?
Surprisingly, leading the global vaccination push, marching to the “false drumbeat of death,” as Metaxas says, is the nation of Israel.
Wolf zeroed in on Denmark and Israel, both of which have forced their citizens into vaccine passports.
“Israel was the bellwether four months ago,” said Wolf. “They got vaccine passports and within four months it’s destroyed civil society. Activists face 360-degree surveillance, nobody is free to challenge it. Parents are being told their own vaccine passports will be switched off unless they allow their children to be vaccinated…. Israelis have to show these vaccine passports, which are digital, not paper, and why they are digital I will explain, but they have to show these passports to get food at the grocery store.”
“This is out of the pit of hell!” exclaimed Metaxas. “Why do you suppose there are people on the Left going along with this?”
Wolf responded, “There’s a horrible tendency to go along with anything in order to maintain power because we [Democrats] tend to be not very good at power. And this means people tend to along with anything in order to maintain power.”
She continued, “There’s also this kind of blind spot and this is human nature, but it’s like if he’s [Joe Biden] a Democrat he can’t be taking orders from China for a CCP-style social credit system in the United States…. So this is very dangerous, because when you believe you’re not capable of evil that’s when evil comes rushing in the door.”
What Can Americans Do?
Courageous scientists and influencers, such as Wolf and Metaxas, and medical professionals, including the thousands who signed the Great Barrington Declaration, are heeding the warning and rising up against these evil forces threatening our freedoms and our way of life. But time is running out. As exemplified in the vaccination rollout in Israel, it could be a mere matter of months before this machine destroys our liberties.
“Freedom of assembly, freedom of speech, freedom to pray, freedom to run your business, privacy of your medical records, it will all be gone unless we can stop this,” warned Wolf.
To stop this, Americans must take the firm stance encouraged by Metaxas: “To refuse to get a vaccine passport for any reason as a matter of principle.” One of the little things citizens can do is to decline the opportunity to scan QR codes so conveniently placed at tables in restaurants, deceptively suggesting they’re easier to use than a regular menu. In fact, it takes one scan for the app to gather all of your data — personal, financial, medical, even your credit history. It’ll be over, cautions Wolf.
Yet as Wolf emphatically stresses, refusing to participate won’t matter if the vaccine passport plan is rolled out. Americans can take action by supporting Republican governors and initiatives to halt this legislation, but they must do it now, before it’s too late.

A new report from the National Intelligence Council is worried about some of the trends that are emerging as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. In short, the world will not be back to “normal” for many years and some promising trends in poverty reduction and gender equality may actually be reversed.
The National Intelligence Council examines global trends and its report is released every four years. In the latest report, the NIC doesn’t pull any punches.
“The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic marks the most significant, singular global disruption since World War II, with health, economic, political and security implications that will ripple for years to come,” says the report.
“The response to the pandemic has fueled partisanship and polarization in many countries as groups argue over the best way to respond and seek scapegoats to blame for spreading the virus and for slow responses,” while contributing to low levels of trust in political institutions, the report says.
The report, Global Trends 2040, envisions a rough ride ahead for the planet, with accelerating contests over resources, governments struggling to meet citizens’ aspirations, and increased fragmentation of communities where “people are likely to gravitate to information silos of people who share similar views, reinforcing beliefs and understanding of the truth.”
It sees some bright spots. Population growth in Latin American and South Asia could spur economic expansion, the report says, even as China, Japan and South Korea deal with aging populations. The advent of artificial intelligence, by boosting productivity, could help governments deliver more services and tackle rising national debts, it says.
The report isn’t meant to predict the future. It sketches out likely scenarios so that policymakers won’t be totally blindsided by events.
But that hardly matters. I doubt very much whether the last report in 2017 foresaw the coronavirus pandemic or anything remotely like it. But this report has no problem predicting climate disasters.
“During the next 20 years, the physical effects from climate change of higher temperatures, sea-level rise, and extreme weather events will impact every country,” with the costs falling disproportionately on the developing world, the report says. This will lead to fiercer debates on how to implement greenhouse gas emission cuts, it says.
The report anticipates that technology will continue to play an integral and expanding role in everyday life, fueling global competition—especially between the U.S. and China—and hyperconnectivity. An accelerating pace and reach of technological breakthroughs is likely to be so seismic as to transform society’s collective understanding of the human experience, it said.

“Privacy and anonymity may effectively disappear by choice or government mandate, as all aspects of personal and professional lives are tracked by global networks,” the report states. “Real-time, manufactured or synthetic media could further distort truth and reality, destabilizing societies at a scale and speed that dwarfs current disinformation challenges. Many types of crimes, particularly those that can be monitored and attributed with digital surveillance, will become less common while new crimes, and potentially new forms of discrimination, could arise.”
It’s all very depressing and makes me pine for the days of three major networks, no internet, and no identity to hack.
There will be a reaction, of course. Some of us will probably choose to drop out and turn out backs on this Brave New World. But most of us will stay tuned in and endure. I can only imagine the streaming opportunities 20 years from now.
The pastor of the Canadian church that was raided by police for defying Covid restrictions says his actions have exposed the government’s lockdown measures as “unnecessary” and even “harmful.”
Pastor James Coates of Gracelife Church in Alberta told Rebel News’ Sheila Gunn Reid his congregation hasn’t had a single Covid case or breakout despite their non-compliance with COVID rules.
“The government is embarrassed at this point in time,” said Coates. “We are a black eye on our government because we continue to meet, we’ve met for 37 Sundays in a row without a single Covid case, let alone a breakout.”
“We are exposing the reality that these lockdown measures are not just unjust, they’re harmful and unnecessary. I think the closing of our facility is necessary in order to prevent any further embarrassment to Alberta health services as well as to Jason Kenney [Premier of Alberta].”
On Wednesday, Coates’ church was seized by Alberta Health Services in a dawn raid, and to this day is surrounded by chain link fencing and has a police checkpoint to stop people from entering the property.
Due to the perimeter barriers, the church is currently surrounded by supporters and Coates has told Rebel News that neither he nor his congregation will be deterred from the gathering.
“…I would just say to the people of Alberta: the only way you’re going to get your province back is if you take it back,” said Coates. “It is time now, not in any violent manner, to peacefully return to your life. We just need to live our lives and do so peacefully and return to life as usual, and this ‘pandemic’ goes away.”
“We are ultimately in control, but if you are waiting for the government to hand you back your civil liberties, it’s just not going to happen.”

The Defense Department is promoting reading resources on opposing “systemic racism” that include radical authors as part of a program to combat extremism within the ranks of the military.
In a virtual meeting for “all hands” last month, the agenda—obtained by The Daily Signal—counted the scandal-plagued Southern Poverty Law Center as a credible resource alongside the Department of Homeland Security and the University of Maryland.
The Southern Poverty Law Center is a left-wing activist group known for labeling organizations it opposes as “hate groups.”
The meeting agenda, titled “Policy ‘Stand Down’ Extremis” and marked “Virtual Policy All Hands,” unfolded from 9 to 10:30 a.m. March 22.
The meeting included a recorded message from Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, a former four-star Army general who was appointed by President Joe Biden and took office Jan. 22.
Recommended resources for attendees also included several references to a video of a 1965 debate at Cambridge between influential conservative journalist William F. Buckley and acclaimed novelist-essayist James Baldwin, who wrote about the black experience growing up in Harlem.
The Pentagon’s agenda suggests viewing the video and describes the debate as: “A stark contrast between the perspective of one person living a life subjected to racism and another person living a life privileged by racism.”

A Pentagon spokeswoman told The Daily Signal late Tuesday that she would not have a specific response to this report before publication.
At the end of the meeting agenda, the Defense Department clearly states that it isn’t endorsing every sentiment of the authors it suggests as resources:

The book “The Fire Next Time,” comprised of two of Baldwin’s essays and originally published in 1963, is one of the Pentagon’s recommended resources for service members.
The agenda for the Pentagon program recommends two books by Kendi, including “Stamped From the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America.” Amazon’s description of the book says: “Some Americans insist that we’re living in a post-racial society. But racist thought is not just alive and well in America—it is more sophisticated and more insidious than ever.”
The meeting agenda also includes Kendi’s more recent and well-known book “How to Be an Antiracist.” Amazon’s description says, “Racism intersects with class and culture and geography and even changes the way we see and value ourselves,” and adds that Kendi’s book “will help readers see all forms of racism clearly, understand their poisonous consequences, and work to oppose them in our systems and in ourselves.”
Kendi, director of the Center for Antiracist Research at Boston University, has pushed the “anti-racist” movement, which redefines racism as a matter of equity and stresses that “assimilationists” are on a par with segregationists.
Members of Congress raised objections in March to the Navy’s promotion of Kendi on reading lists, as well as other books.
Reps. Doug Lamborn, R-Colo., and Vicky Hartzler, R-Mo., both members of the House Armed Services Committee, wrote to Adm. Michael M. Gilday, chief of naval operations, saying that Kendi’s writing suggests service members are fighting for a systemically racist country.
The Navy has declined to remove any books from Gilday’s list of recommended reading.
Targeting Violent Extremism
Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., a combat veteran of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, proposed legislation to block the teaching of critical race theory in the military.
Critical race theory defines individuals as oppressed or oppressor based on skin color and views history and human interactions as a perpetual racial conflict.
The agenda for the March 22 meeting also recommends the 2015 book “Between the World and Me” by Coates, an advocate for paying blacks reparations for slavery in America.
Amazon’s description says the book seeks to answer these questions: “What is it like to inhabit a black body and find a way to live within it? And how can we all honestly reckon with this fraught history and free ourselves from its burden?”
Another listed resource is the 2020 book “Breaking Hate: Confronting the New Culture of Extremism” by Christian Picciolini, who was radicalized by white supremacists at age 14 and joined violent groups, but eventually found a way out. The agenda also recommends Picciolini’s TED Talk, titled “My Descent Into America’s Neo-Nazi Movement.”
Prohibited Activity
In response to questions, a Pentagon spokeswoman referred The Daily Signal to 2009 guidelines on what constitutes “prohibited activity” for enlisted service members.
“No commander should be indifferent to conduct that, if allowed to proceed unchecked, would destroy the effectiveness of his or her unit,” those guidelines note.
The guidelines also call for commanders to approve “policies and procedures” developed by the secretaries of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and other military departments “to implement this instruction.”
The Pentagon issued the guidelines after the 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, an Army base in Texas.
The guidelines continue:
A commander may require prior approval of publications to be distributed on a military installation through other than official outlets to determine if the publication would: (a) Create a clear danger to the loyalty, discipline, or morale of military personnel; or (b) Materially interfere with the accomplishment of the military mission. …
Commanders have the authority to place establishments off-limits in accordance with established procedures when, for example, the activities taking place at these establishments include, but are not limited to, counseling, encouraging, or inciting service members to refuse to perform duty …
Military personnel must not actively advocate supremacist, extremist, or criminal gang doctrine, ideology, or causes, including those that advance, encourage, or advocate illegal discrimination based on race, creed, color, sex, religion, ethnicity, or national origin or those that advance, encourage, or advocate the use of force, violence, or criminal activity or otherwise advance efforts to deprive individuals of their civil rights.
Scheduling ‘Stand-Down’
The Defense Department on Feb. 5 issued a public memo regarding “extremism in the ranks” that directed commanding officers at all levels to “select a date within the next 60 days to conduct a one-day ‘stand-down’ on this issue with their personnel.”
The memo came about one month after the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, after which officials deployed National Guard troops to patrol a newly fenced perimeter around the building where Congress meets.
The memo says:
We will not tolerate actions that go against the fundamental principles of the oath we share, including actions associated with extremist or dissident ideologies. Service members, DoD civilian employees, and all those who support our mission, deserve an environment free of discrimination, hate, and harassment. It is incumbent upon each of us to ensure that actions associated with these corrosive behaviors are prevented.
The memo says military leaders have discretion in the discussion about addressing extremism in the ranks, but all should focus on the oath they take to serve the nation.
“You should use this opportunity to listen as well to the concerns, experiences, and possible solutions that the men and women of the workforce may proffer in these stand-down sessions,” the memo says.
‘Eliminate Extremist Behaviors’
The Navy conducted a separate PowerPoint presentation “that touched on “anti-government extremists” and “recent events,” former Justice Department lawyer J. Christian Adams reported in PJ Media last month after obtaining documents about the presentation.
The Defense Department information obtained by Adams includes this statement:
If we don’t eliminate extremist behaviors from our Navy, then racism, injustice, indignity and disrespect will grow and keep us from reaching our potential—an inclusive, respectful, professional fighting force that answers the nation’s call. If we must first question the intentions of our shipmate standing the watch with us, now, and especially, when taking fire, we will fail when the nation needs us most in combat.
The documents obtained by Adams, president of Public Interest Legal Foundation, also recommend “do’s” and “don’ts” to Navy commanders when engaging personnel, including:
Do be alert to statements about Prohibited Behavior (Extremism in the Ranks) which rely on inaccurate or misleading assumptions, misperception or myth. Correct these inaccuracies in a resolute, respectful manner. … Do Not allow only a few participants to dominate the conversation.

In the wake of the Atlanta Massage Parlor massacre last month, mainstream media outlets Yahoo News and USA Today highlighted a group of “protesters” tied to U.S. designated foreign terror group “Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army” responsible for tens of thousands of deaths. The protest was ostensibly to mourn the victims, but it was really about communist revolution.
The gathering was organized by the “Total Liberation Collective,” which demands social justice education in schools and seeks to dismantle the police. WTOP News, a local D.C. news outlet, posted a video of the group chanting in front of a flag that declared “From DC to the Philippines, Stop the US War Machine”. They screamed “Disband the ALU [Metropolitan Police Departments Asian Liaison Unit]”, “Pigs in a Blanket, Fry ’em Like Bacon”, and “Cops and the Klan Go Hand in Hand.”

The media was uninterested in the flag prominently displayed at the event, which featured the word “ANAKBAYAN”.
Anakbayan-USA is a militant Marxist-Leninist organization aligned with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army, a designated foreign terrorist organization that continues to be in the news for killing innocent people on a regular basis. Anakbayan-USA admires the genocidal late dictator Mao Zedong, who terrorized and murdered millions of his own citizens through the Cultural Revolution.

Anakbayan-USA is exemplary of this—where youth and students in the United States actively build solidarity with the people of the Philippines. The group continues the work for National Democracy in the Philippines—a movement led by Marxist-Maoist-Leninist Jose Maria Sison, leader who founded the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) in 1968.
“The Communist Party of the Philippines–New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) seeks to overthrow the Philippine government in favor of a new state led by the working class and to expel U.S. influence from the Philippines.”
On their homepage, Anakbayan-USA prominently features a quote from Jose Maria Sison [also known as Joma Sison], the Maoist founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army.
According to an article in the Manila Times, the New People’s Army is responsible for butchering 50,000 citizens and “13,000 soldiers and policemen”. It should be noted that one organization is fighting back against the communists in the Philippines, and RAIR Foundation USA wishes them well.

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to ignore a growing, insidious ethos overtaking America’s most powerful institutions.
Individual merit and reasoned debate are out. “Lived experience” and the hierarchy of group grievance are now what matter most.
Even truth is considered meaningless. Narratives are everything.
The concept of fundamental human equality, derived from ideas at the heart of America’s founding and famously rearticulated by civil rights champion Martin Luther King Jr. in his “I Have a Dream” speech, is now being replaced by the enforced “equity” of the woke.
The end result, ironically, is the resegregation of America.
This new woke ideology, building on critical race theory, not only rejects the concept that people should be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character, it increasingly also embraces actual governmental race-based discrimination.
The evidence of this shift is everywhere.
To no one’s surprise, segregation is popular on modern college campuses, where these ideas originally bubbled up. Many schools, such as New York University, have been besieged with demands for racially segregated student housing, despite that being likely illegal.
Columbia University is now offering segregated graduation ceremonies for various racial and gender identity groups. Columbia, an Ivy League school, insists that these segregated ceremonies are all voluntary and in addition to the larger, integrated ceremony, but who’s to say that will continue?
By next year, would it be a surprise to see schools all over the country copy this practice?
Such ideas are coming to corporate America, too.
Proposition 16 in California, which would have officially brought back race-based affirmative action to the state, was rejected by voters. But it was widely supported by a gaggle of corporations, nonprofit groups, and well-connected billionaires.
Voters may balk at race-based discrimination, but woke corporations are seemingly happy to inject racial categories in their business models.
Open up an app for food-delivery services, such as Uber Eats, for instance, and you will likely see a section for “black-owned businesses.”
Are we now going to start choosing our dinner by racial group rather than by cuisine?
Such moves to create a more racialized society would be bad enough if they were only limited to college campuses and the practices of woke businesses, but they are disturbingly being incorporated into government policy, too.
Two Democratic senators recently said that they would no longer vote to confirm “non-diversity” nominees for federal government posts.
“I am a ‘no’ vote on the floor, on all non-diversity nominees,” said Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., “You know, I will vote for racial minorities, and I will vote for LGBTQ, but anybody else, I’m not voting for.”
Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, concurred with Duckworth.
“We’re not just calling for [Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders],” Hirono said. “This is not about pitting one diversity group against them. So, I’m happy to vote for a Hispanic or black person and LGBTQ person and AAPI person.”
So, they’d vote to confirm any nominee—as long as he wasn’t straight and white.
Cities are experimenting with race-based laws, too.
Libby Schaaf, the mayor of Oakland, California, announced that the city will be creating a universal basic income program in partnership with a nonprofit organization that will only give money to “black, indigenous, and other people of color,” according to KPIX-TV, the CBS affiliate in the Bay Area.
The program, which will give $500 a month to 600 low-income families for 18 months, was justified by supporters as based on statistical poverty disparities among racial groups.
The money for the program will come from Blue Meridian Partners, a philanthropic organization.
That opens up a few questions, beyond just its legality.
Will American citizens now need to take a genetic test to qualify for government services?
After all, we live in an age where gender is supposedly “fluid,” but race and culture, we’re told, are absolute.
Also, what exactly does a group disparity or statistic mean to anyone living in poverty who doesn’t qualify as a “person of color”?
You won’t receive aid, but there’s good news: You’re helping the government create more equity by being poor. Congratulations!
As my colleague Mike Gonzalez wrote for City Journal, many of these proposals are likely unconstitutional and illegal violations of the 14th Amendment’s equal protection clause and Titles VI and VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
That clearly won’t stop the woke from pushing them on Americans anyway.
“The woke Left understands that, as written and amended, the Constitution stands in the way of many of the things that it wants to do,” Gonzalez wrote. “This is why the Left has set about to cast the Constitution as illegitimate by, for example, purposely mischaracterizing the three-fifths compromise, pretending that the document perpetuated slavery, or calling it, as Kendi does, a ‘colorblind Constitution for a White-supremacist America.’”
That’s a reference to Ibram X. Kendi, a so-called anti-racist intellectual who has become massively popular in media and in higher-education circles.
Kendi aims to redefine racism as a collective, systemic act, rather than an individual one; denounces the concept of a colorblind society; and argues that racial discrimination can be good—as long as it’s pointed in the right direction.
Whether you’ve heard of Kendi or not, his ideas are now everywhere and are being delivered in a steady and growing dose to Americans and other people throughout the West.
America hasn’t always lived up to the promise of equality laid out in the Declaration of Independence. Slavery and segregation ran alongside our institutions and culture of liberty.
The intellectual vanguards of wokeness and critical race theory demand that the most fundamental aspects of self-government and preservation of individual rights be abandoned to serve the cause of destroying “systemic racism.”
Arguing to the contrary may be racist and, if Kendi gets his way, practically illegal—at least illegal for anyone in a position of power.
So, not only is America to be resegregated, but unlike in our past—when the American people were persuaded and freely chose to abandon and prohibit race-based policies—this time we will have no choice, and will simply be at the whim of woke apparatchiks.
Today, we may be debating whether our national origin is 1776 or 1619, but if our current course continues, our future will look more like 1917, the year of the communist Russian Revolution. For one group to rise, another must come down.
Race will simply replace class as the prime motivator of the revolution and eventual tyranny.
What we will end up with is misery, recriminations, and segregation now, tomorrow, and forever.

Even as the nation begins to round the corner on the coronavirus pandemic, Joe Biden and his Democratic buddies don’t want what’s left of the crisis to go to waste. Enter his “vaccine passports.”
Biden’s White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki says any vaccine passports will be outsourced to Big Tech, but Acting Medicare and Medicaid Services chief, Andy Slavitt, says, “This is going to hit all parts of society, and so naturally, the government is involved.”
Outsourcing Vaccine Passport to Big Tech
The passport sounds like the continuation of ObamaCare, but hitting “all parts of society” to achieve compliance. As I reported in PJ Media, the current goal is to have everyone get a COVID shot, but one could imagine the “existential threat” of global warming or any other scheme Democrats come up with to curb your use of energy or affect the kind of car you drive, for example. If you’re lugging around too many pounds, one could imagine giving brownie points for eating well, which conversely means you’d get docked for eating French fries.
[P]roof of vaccination “may be a critical driver for restoring baseline population health and promoting safe return to social, commercial, and leisure activities.” There is also some focus-group evidence that vaccine passports could help convince Americans who do not want to get inoculated to sign up for a shot. [emphasis added]
As I wrote at PJ Media, liberal author and feminist Naomi Wolf notes that the government and its buddies in Big Tech could put anything on the existing platform in the future and it would be the “end of human liberty in the West.” Not to mention destroying constitutional protections and breaking several laws.
A government interagency committee has been convened to consider how Big Tech might implement vaccine passports to determine if you may travel or go to large events.
Somewhere left behind is the question of constitutionality or ethics.
How It Works
The worldwide pandemic vaccine passport being proposed appear to be a lighter version (for the moment) of China’s social credit score scheme. This divides people into camps, the trustworthy and the untrustworthy. “Trustworthy” people who hew to government diktat would get more points. This is a scheme we feel sure the Left is going to love. You can guess which group you’d be in.
China’s rulers in the Communist Party began pre-announcing its social credit score in 2014. It was rolled out soon thereafter and was to have been country-wide by 2020.
Vox reports that the government’s goal in setting up the system was to “help ensure a model society in which “sincerity and trustworthiness become conscious norms of action among all the people.”
The Chinese social credit scheme is a series of databases keeping track of each person to “provide a holistic assessment of an individual or a company’s trustworthiness, based on a numerical score.”
Drew Donnelly, Ph.D., writes about the scoring system and finds “the social credit system has some similarities with the credit ratings provided for individuals and corporations in other countries, but captures information on a wider variety of behaviors.” [Emphasis added]
It’s believed that in addition to a database, the Chinese government would likely use, if it isn’t already, facial recognition technology from the ubiquitous surveillance cameras – an estimated 200-million of them.
The Point System
The way it works is that each person in China starts with 1000 points.
Every time someone does something the government doesn’t like they’re docked points. If you don’t visit your aging parents, for example, your score suffers. “Illegally” protesting, writing things the government doesn’t like on social media, “spreading rumors” on social media, being part of a “cult” – a religious system not endorsed by government, such as Falun Gong, will make you a near-outcast. If you offer up “insincere apologies” for all manner of offenses, from drunk driving to jaywalking (including the above offenses), it will cost you points.
Considering that Big Tech is being asked to take point on this vaccine passport and what comes afterward, and its propensity to censor conservatives, you can imagine how this will work out for you. Big Tech is already hoovering up all your personal information and political proclivities right now.
Good behavior includes not doing any of the things just outlined, praising the government on social media, donating blood, doing charity work, having good credit, and performing acts of heroism. The highest social credit score is 1300 points.
If one gets any score below 600, they’re graded “D” and are deemed an untrustworthy person, according to Vox.
Named and Shamed on ‘Blacklists’
Business Insider reports that there are several ways that the man can stick it to the little guy with a low social credit score such as preventing you from being able to buy tickets to travel or stay in hotels; throttling your internet speed; banning you and your kids from good schools; or preventing you from getting good jobs, for openers.
If they don’t like you they can even take your dog.
Untrustworthy people are publicly shamed on several blacklists. Donnelly reports that by 2019 some “23 million people [had] been blacklisted from traveling by plane or train due to low social credit scores as issued by China’s National Public Credit Information Center. It is reasonable to assume that this will continue as part of China’s social credit system.”
Fortune reports that China has turned itself into what sounds like a dystopian Hotel California.
China’s National Public Credit Information Center on Friday released a report that said it stopped 17.5 million people from buying airplane tickets and 5.5 million from hopping on a train in 2018 because they had low “social credit” scores. Another 290,000 people were stopped from getting a high-paying senior management job and 128 people couldn’t leave the country because they hadn’t yet paid taxes, according to the Associated Press, which obtained a copy of the report. Joe and His Cadres Would Be Exempted
The president and vice president would not be issued vaccine passports. White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki says that President Biden wouldn’t be issued a vaccine passport since he flies on private jets.
Well, I would say the president travels, as does the vice president, on a private plane. That is the purview of every president and vice president throughout American history. That is, of course, different than traveling on a commercial flight and going to mass events. As you know, we don’t — the president is not hosting rallies, nor is the vice president. We take the role of sending — being models quite seriously. But I think most Americans would recognize the difference.
As in China, the ruling cadres are not subject to the same rules as the “workers.”
Wolf, who started a tech site that she says is meant to bring the right and left together, says the passport would divide people between haves and have nots: those who have had the COVID shot and those who have not. In her words, it “is literally the end of human liberty in the West if this plan unfolds as planned.”
Here’s what she means, in case you haven’t figure it out yourself.
Vaccine passports sound like a fine thing if you don’t know what those platforms can do. I’m CEO of a tech company, I understand what this platform does. It’s not about the vaccine, it’s not about the virus, it’s about data. And once this rolls out you don’t have a choice about being part of the system. What people have to understand is that any other functionality can be loaded onto that platform with no problem at all.
Wolf told Fox News host Steve Hilton that Big Tech companies will oversee all of your personal information and intermingle it with information that government will use to determine if you’re eligible to be able to travel and do anything else in polite society. President Biden signed an executive order in January to coordinate with other countries to track people to stop the spread of COVID.

Opposing “extremism” in the military seems like a no-brainer. As First Liberty General Counsel Mike Berry testified, “those who would use, threaten, or advocate violence to accomplish their [political] objectives” should have no place in the ranks. Yet the military stand-down briefings meant to root out “extremism” in the military arguably set the stage for something far more sinister.
“We should reject any attempt to weaponize anti-extremism efforts against classes of people simply because those in authority disapprove of them,” Berry wisely warned. Sadly, the anti-extremism briefings that the Department of Defense pushed on military branches during the recent “stand-down” order are ripe for abuse — and the “anti-extremism” effort will likely translate into a political/ideological witch hunt against conservatives.
Any PJ Media reader familiar with my work knows that I have long covered the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which uses a vague and malleable definition of “hate group” in order to smear mainstream conservative and Christian organizations and place them on a list — and a “hate map” — with the Ku Klux Klan. This inspired an attempted terrorist attack in 2012 (which the SPLC rightly condemned, but which did not lead the SPLC to remove the targeted organization).
The SPLC defines a “hate group” as “an organization or collection of individuals that – based on its official statements or principles, the statements of its leaders, or its activities – has beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics. An organization does not need to have engaged in criminal conduct or have followed their speech with actual unlawful action to be labeled a hate group.”
The SPLC twists this definition, using it as a cudgel to defame its ideological opponents and to shame them into silence. A former spokesman explained that the organization’s “aim in life is to destroy these groups.” The SPLC accuses organizations that advocate for religious freedom or against the threat of radical Islamist terror of spreading “anti-LGBT” or “anti-Muslim” propaganda. In fact, the “hate group” definition is so malleable that the SPLC uses it to brand organizations that advocate against illegal immigration “anti-immigrant hate groups,” even though migration status is most certainly not an “immutable characteristic.”
The Marine Corps extremism materials are similarly vague and malleable. A “reference card” linked on the Marines extremism stand-down website warns marines that they “must not actively advocate for” “supremacist or extremist doctrine, ideology, or causes.” Yet the document does not actually define supremacy or extremism. The document bans marines from advocating for individuals or groups that advance “illegal discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, creed, ethnicity, national origin,” or that advance “the use of force, violence, or criminal activity or otherwise advance efforts to deprive individuals of their civil rights.”

This vague definition of extremism opens the floodgates for political demonization. What does it mean to say that Marines cannot advocate for organizations that “advance efforts to deprive individuals of their civil rights”? Which rights are in question? Can Marines advocate for gun control groups that want to weaken Americans’ civil right to gun ownership? Can Marines advocate for pro-life groups that seek to undermine a woman’s “right” to abortion under Roe v. Wade (1973)?
Many on the Left demonize conservative Christians who refuse to celebrate same-sex marriage or transgender identity, accusing them of “discrimination” that violates LGBT people’s “rights.”
Can Marines advocate for women’s shelters that do not allow transgender men who claim to be women? Can Marines support a religious freedom organization that defends a doctor’s right to refuse to remove a healthy gender-confused woman’s uterus? Under President Joe Biden’s executive orders on transgender identity, these organizations would “deprive individuals of their civil rights.”
Worse, the Marine Corps stand-down materials claim Marines have a “responsibility to report” their fellows. “If you observe a Marine or co-worker exhibiting concerning behaviors, you have a responsibility to report it through the chain of command or supervision to your local security manager, and/or directly to the Insider Threat program office.”

What constitutes a “concerning behavior”? If a Marine is chatting about giving money to a Catholic charity that opposes a woman’s “right” to abortion and a transgender person’s “right” to treatment according to his or her gender identity, does that constitute a “concerning behavior”?
Another side in the Marines stand-down materials encourages Marines to “report to your chain of command any observations of conduct that may be an indicator of active participation,” which “may lead to violence.” Examples of such indicators include “identification with or support for extremist or hate-based ideology” and “possession of extremist literature or paraphernalia.”

These terms appear dangerously vague. The SPLC has branded the gospel tracts organization Chick Publications a “hate group.” Does this mean that if a Marine has Chick tracts, he has “extremist literature,” and his fellow Marines should report him?
The Marines training also forbids certain posts on social media. “Do not post, share, re-tweet, ‘like,’ etc. any materials that promote discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity), creed, ethnicity, national origin or sexual orientation; or encourage violence to prevent others from exercising their civil rights.”
Yes, the materials explicitly ban Marines from engaging with any social media posts that “promote discrimination based on … gender identity.” Based on the Biden administration’s definition of civil rights law, this would mean any content that refers to biological males who identify as female with male pronouns, that advocates for excluding biological males from women’s sports, or that warns against the abuses of subjecting gender-confused children to chemical castration.
The “Social Media ‘Don’ts'” slide encourages Marines, “Do not tolerate actions by other Marines that violate these rules.”

In the name of fighting “extremism,” it seems the Biden administration is trying to weaponize the military in order to root out certain kinds of conservatives. This seems to be yet another part of the Democrats’ domestic “War on Terror” after the Capitol riot on January 6. Most conservatives rightly condemn the violence and lawlessness of the Capitol riot, but many Democrats seem to think that Trump supporters and other conservatives — former CIA Director John Brennan explicitly named “libertarians” — are potential violent extremists or “insurrectionists.”
Shortly after Biden took office, the Department of Homeland Security sent out a terror alert warning of “objections” to “governmental authority.”
As J. Christian Adams has noted, stand-down “extremism” materials have spread the idea that speech that “threatens to undermine our government” is not protected by the First Amendment, even though it is.
Secretary of Defense Loyd Austin also refused to define “extremism” in his video message regarding the training.
“I’m talking, of course, about extremism and extremist ideology, views and conduct that run counter to everything we believe in, and which can actually tear at the fabric of who we are as an institution,” Austin said. He argued that extremism in the military is not new, but “what is new is the speed and the pervasiveness with which extremist ideology can spread today, thanks to social media and the aggressive, organized, and emboldened attitude many of these hate groups and their sympathizers are now applying to their recruitment and to their operations.”
He warned that extremism would “harm and harass and otherwise violate the oath that we share,” referring to the oath soldiers take to join the military.
When most Americans hear about “supremacy” and “hate groups,” they would think of “white supremacy” and the Ku Klux Klan, a true hate group if ever there was one. Yet the SPLC has demonstrated the malleability of this language and the way that vague terms can be twisted to demonize conservatives.
Conservative members of the military need to be on their guard. Some enterprising leftist beside them in the ranks may be watching for any sign of wrongthink regarding transgender identity, abortion, or other hot-button issues. These vague guidelines open the floodgates for complaints about support for conservative Christian organizations, charities, and even churches in the interest of rooting out “extremism.” Even a well-intentioned Facebook post may land a Marine in hot water.
Is this really how America treats the brave men and women who lay down their lives for our freedom? Why can’t the Biden administration define its terms, forbid calls for violence and true white supremacy, rather than using vague terms that invite ideological abuses? Tragically, I think I know the answer.
