"Supporters of President Donald Trump" who stormed the U.S. Capitol, breaking windows and stealing things, could face charges including sedition, insurrection and rioting, Washington, D.C.'s top federal prosecutor said on Thursday.

"All of those charges are on the table," Acting U.S. Attorney Michael Sherwin told reporters in a call, when asked about possible charges of sedition, rioting or insurrection.

"We're not going to keep anything out of our arsenal."

The Justice Department has filed 55 criminal cases about events this week, Sherwin said, some pre-dating Wednesday's assault on the seat of government, including the arrest of far-right Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio on Monday.

Sherwin repeatedly said no suspects in Wednesday's riots would be ruled out - even when asked whether this could include Capitol Police who may have been complicit or Trump himself for urging protesters to march on the Capitol at a rally on Wednesday.

"We're looking at all actors here and anyone that had a role, and the evidence fits the elements of a crime, they're going to be charged."

The break-in forced members of Congress who were in the process of certifying President-elect Joe Biden's Nov. 3 election victory to evacuate the chambers for several hours.

The U.S. Capitol Police said they had arrested 14 suspected of involvement in the rioting, most charged with unlawful entry, while the Metropolitan Police Department made at least 68 arrests.

Much of the looting and rioting was caught on video and photos which went viral on social media, and the FBI has been asking the public to submit tips to help it identify and track down suspects.

The FBI is also taking the lead on an investigation into two pipe bombs that were recovered from the headquarters of the Republican and Democratic national committees.

FBI investigators were knocking on doors around Capitol Hill asking for home security videos, said Charles Allen, a Councilman for the neighborhood.

Some of the people who were arrested on minor charges such as unlawful entry or violating the city's curfew appeared in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia on Thursday, and were ordered not to return to the city unless it was related to their criminal case.

Meanwhile, Sherwin said his office was filing 15 criminal cases in the U.S. District Court on Thursday.

In one case, a man was charged with knowingly entering a restricted building, assault on a federal officer and violent entry to the Capitol grounds.

A Capitol Police officer said in the charging documents that he was attempting to form a barricade with other officers on the Senate side when the man attempted to push past and then punched him.

While the number of people arrested is expected to grow, the initial numbers reported by Washington, D.C. police paled in comparison with the more than 300 arrested following the June 1 protests in Washington over the death of George Floyd, a Black man, at the hands of white police officer in Minneapolis.

At that protest baton-swinging police and federal agents fired smoke canisters, flash-bang grenades and rubber bullets to drive protesters farther from the White House, enabling Trump to walk across Lafayette Square and hold up a Bible in front of historic St. John’s Church.

Law enforcement officers were severely criticized for being too aggressive at Lafayette Square. The Capitol Police are now facing questions about why they did not do more to secure the Capitol building.

RESIGNATIONS FROM TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

Betsy DeVos resigns as Education Secretary

BY JOSEPH CHOI

SEE: https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/533281-betsy-devos-resigns-as-education-secretary;

republished below in full unedited for informational, educational & research purposes:

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos tendered her resignation to President Trump on Thursday, making her the latest in a line of senior officials to exit following the riot at the Capitol on Wednesday.

In her resignation letter, DeVos cited the Capitol breach carried out by violent pro-Trump supporters as an “inflection point.”

DeVos is the second White House Cabinet member to resign due to the Capitol breach. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao tendered her resignation on Thursday, directly citing the events that occurred at the Capitol.

"We should be highlighting and celebrating your Administration's many accomplishments on behalf of the American people," DeVos wrote to Trump. "Instead, we are left to clean up the mess caused by violent protestors overrunning the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to undermine the people's business. That behavior was unconscionable for our country. There is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had on the situation, and it is the inflection point for me."

"Impressionable children are watching all of this and they are learning from us," she continued. "I believe we each have a moral obligation to exercise good judgment and model the behavior we hope they would emulate. They must know from us that America is greater than what transpired yesterday.

"To that end, today I resign from my position effective Friday, January 8, in support of the oath I took to our Constitution, our people, and our freedoms. Holding this position has been the honor of a lifetime, and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to serve America and her students," DeVos concluded.

During her time as education secretary, DeVos has faced a great deal of controversy, much of it stemming from her lack of experience in education. Before Trump tapped her for the position, she had been a major donor to Republican campaigns.

DeVos on Monday sent a letter to Congress as one of her last acts as secretary making a case to expand federal tax dollars going to private schools, a cause DeVos supported long before she became education secretary.

During a virtual meeting in December, DeVos reportedly told Department of Education staffers to "resist" the incoming Biden administration.

"Let me leave you with this plea: Resist,” DeVos said. “Be the resistance against forces that will derail you from doing what’s right for students. In everything you do, please put students first — always.”

Transportation Secretary Chao resigns in protest

BY REID WILSON

SEE: https://thehill.com/policy/transportation/533167-transportation-secretary-chao-resigns-in-protest;

republished below in full unedited for informational, educational & research purposes:

Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao will resign in protest after a violent mob overran the Capitol after being incited by President Trump, a source with knowledge of her decision said Thursday.

Chao would become the first Cabinet official, and the highest-ranking member of the administration, to resign in the wake of Trump’s incendiary rally and its violent aftermath on Wednesday.

“Yesterday, our country experienced a traumatic and entirely avoidable event as supporters of the President stormed the Capitol building following a rally he addressed,” Chao wrote in a letter to Transportation Department staff, obtained by The Hill. “As I’m sure is the case with many of you, it has deeply troubled me in a way that I simply cannot set aside.”

Her exit is a sharp rebuke of a president who has alienated even some of his closest supporters with his increasingly unhinged rhetoric. Chao has served as Transportation secretary since Trump’s inauguration. She served as Labor secretary for eight years under President George W. Bush.

Chao is married to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who spent much of Wednesday locked in an undisclosed and secure location under armed guard as Trump-backing rioters marauded through the Capitol.

In her letter to employees, Chao said she would resign effective Monday. She said her team would continue assisting President-elect Joe Biden’s Transportation secretary-designate, former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, with the transition.

Chao’s exit will absolve her of uncomfortable questions over whether she would join any effort to remove President Trump from office two weeks before his term expires by invoking the 25th Amendment, which allows the majority of the Cabinet to replace a president with the vice president.

Her departure will anger those who wanted the Cabinet to take the historic step of replacing Trump with Vice President Pence. But Chao’s resignation is not effective until Monday, which could give Cabinet members time to organize their vote.

Capitol Police chief announces resignation after pro-Trump riots

BY CRISTINA MARCOS

SEE: https://thehill.com/homenews/house/533262-capitol-police-chief-announces-resignation-after-pro-trump-riots;

republished below in full unedited for informational, educational & research purposes:

Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund said Thursday that he will resign later this month after his police force failed to contain mobs who tried to prevent Congress from ratifying President-elect Joe Biden's victory.

His resignation letter came hours after Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) called for him to step down.

Sund will have only been on the job for about seven months when he resigns effective Jan. 16. He made no mention in the letter of Wednesday's riots in the Capitol, but noted he will transition into a "sick leave status" starting Jan. 17 until he uses up his available sick leave balance of about 440 hours.

"It has been a pleasure and true honor to serve the United States Capitol Police Board and the Congressional community alongside the men and women of the United States Capitol Police," Sund wrote to the other members of the Capitol Police Board.

Other members of the Capitol Police Board are also resigning or are under pressure to follow suit.

Pelosi announced Thursday that the House sergeant at arms, Paul Irving, had tendered his resignation. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) also said Thursday that he would fire the Senate sergeant-at-arms, Michael Stenger, when Democrats take over the majority later this month.

Irving has served in his role since 2012.

"I think we have to have a full review," Pelosi told reporters in the Capitol earlier Thursday. "What was underestimated? That the president of the United States would not be as inciteful? Perhaps somebody thought for a moment that he would be patriotic before he leaves office for just this once."

A 35-year-old woman participating in the violent riots was shot by a Capitol Police officer as she tried to force her way toward the House chamber. Glass panels adorning the Speaker's Lobby — where she was trying to enter — are now cracked and broken due to the mob.

Sund said in a statement Thursday that the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave and is under investigation.

Sund also said that more than 50 Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police officers were injured, including several who were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Most of the insurrectionists were not wearing masks despite the COVID-19 pandemic and attacked police officers with metal pipes and chemical irritants.

The Capitol Police said earlier this week that it would have additional personnel on duty Wednesday in anticipation of demonstrations over Congress meeting in a joint session to formally certify the Electoral College votes.

But the Capitol Police were vastly overwhelmed by the raging mob. The D.C., Virginia and Maryland National Guard and state troopers were all called in to help contain the terror attack and it took about four hours to clear the Capitol complex.

Sund said in the earlier statement Thursday that the Capitol Police is conducting a "thorough review" of Wednesday's security planning and procedures but defended his force's actions.

"Maintaining public safety in an open environment – specifically for First Amendment activities – has long been a challenge. The USCP had a robust plan established to address anticipated First Amendment activities. But make no mistake – these mass riots were not First Amendment activities; they were criminal riotous behavior. The actions of the USCP officers were heroic given the situation they faced, and I continue to have tremendous respect in the professionalism and dedication of the women and men of the United States Capitol Police," Sund said.

Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), who chairs the House Administration Committee, said that she had been misled about the state of preparedness in a briefing with Sund and House Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving earlier in the week.

"We were told that was all in place and there was no doubt completely able to keep us secure in the Capitol,"  she said, specifying that she had been told that the coordination with the National Guard was ready to go.

"Well, that was not correct. Not only were they not prepared, what they told me about the National Guard was just not true. The guard was not even activated," she said.

Lofgren also indicated that President Trump was slow to react to requests to mobilize the National Guard, an issue that normally falls to governors, but rests on the commander-in-chief when it comes to the District of Columbia.

A call from Congress's bipartisan leaders, she said, was necessary to get the Defense Department to mobilize the National Guard.

The Hill’s Morning Report: Trump finally concedes; 25th Amendment pressure grows

BY ALEXIS SIMENDINGER AND AL WEAVER

SEE: https://thehill.com/homenews/morning-report/533289-the-hills-morning-report;

republished below in full unedited for informational, educational & research purposes:

Fallout from the breach of the Capitol by rioters continued on Thursday amid calls for the Cabinet and Vice President Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump as unfit to carry out his duties.

Under intense bipartisan pressure Thursday, the president acknowledged his defeat in the 2020 election one day after vowing he would continue to contest the results. In a nearly three-minute video taped at the White House, Trump decried the mob he had encouraged, which swarmed the Capitol on Wednesday as Congress confirmed President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral victory.

“We have just been through an intense election and emotions are high. But now tempers must be cooled and calm restored,” Trump said. “A new administration will be inaugurated on Jan. 20. My focus now turns to ensuring a smooth orderly and seamless transition of power. This moment calls for healing and reconciliation.”

The president’s sudden conciliatory outreach took place following a persuasion effort through Ivanka Trump, steered by White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and counsel Pat Cipolloneaccording to multiple outlets. It took place as at least 200 House lawmakers advocated expelling Trump from office (NBC News).

Early on Thursday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) advocated his removal, saying Trump’s final days in office posed a danger to the nation.

“This is an urgency of the highest magnitude,” Pelosi said. “While there are only 13 days left, any day can be a horror show for America” (The Hill).

Invoking the 25th Amendment, however, has been dismissed by Pence and ignored by the Cabinet, both necessary under the Constitution to proceed. According to The New York Times and Business Insider, the vice president opposes the idea of moving to declare Trump unfit to serve, despite his concerns about events he witnessed on Wednesday.

Biden on Thursday said in a statement through an aide that any invocation of the 25th Amendment would be up to the vice president and the Cabinet, not him. He avoided questions about impeaching Trump a second time (The Associated Press).

Most lawmakers approach discussions about removing Trump as a form of public censure rather than as a viable procedural option as Biden’s inauguration draws near.

Despite the president’s sudden embrace of “healing,” he is contemplating travel next week to the southwestern border to tout his controversial immigration policies, according to The New York Times. He’s also mulling the idea of a media exit interview. The president and his family have discussed departing the White House on Jan. 19, the Times reports, and sources tell Politico that Trump favors the idea of being able to use Air Force One, which is possible only while he’s president, to make his exit from Washington. Where he will go is unclear; a South Florida party or rally among friends and supporters is a possible destination, according to reports.

The Hill: Calls grow louder to remove Trump under 25th Amendment.

The Hill: Pelosi, Schumer say they haven't heard from Pence on invoking the 25th Amendment.

CNN: What is the 25th Amendment and how does it work?

Politifact: Using the 25th Amendment or impeaching Trump: Could they happen?

The Hill: Former White House chief of staff John Kelly says Trump Cabinet should discuss the 25th Amendment.

Two House Republicans on Thursday offered their support for a procedure to remove Trump. Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger became the first, with Rep. Steve Stivers (Ohio) adding he would “not be opposed.”

Sens. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas), the two foremost objectors to the Electoral College count on Wednesday, joined Trump in feeling the wrath of some of their peers.

Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.), a top Biden ally, called on Hawley and Cruz to resign. Book publisher Simon & Schuster announced it canceled the publication of a pending book by Hawley about Big Tech, withdrawing publication “after his role in what became a dangerous threat to our democracy and freedom.”

Hawley fired back in a statement, calling the company’s decision a “direct assault on the First Amendment” (The Hill).

The Kansas City Star: “The biggest mistake I’ve ever made,” said former Sen. John Danforth (R-Mo.), who promoted Hawley at the outset of his political career.

The Hill: Donor who gave millions to Hawley urges Senate to censure him for “irresponsible” behavior.

Peggy Noonan: Bring the insurrectionists to justice.

Governors weigh in: Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R), who has not discounted making a future bid for the White House, said he supports Trump’s removal from office or his resignation (The Hill). … Republican Gov. Charlie Baker of Massachusetts echoed that position, calling on the president to “step down” in response to his behavior and the mob violence seen in Washington (The Hill). … North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D), who repeatedly clashed with Trump last year as the pandemic worsened, tweeted, “This president has betrayed our country and is therefore unfit to lead it. He should resign or be removed from office.”

> Trump & Republican lawmakersThe Hill’s Alexander Bolton reports that GOP senators say they feel a sense of growing regret over not standing up to the president sooner in retrospect following Wednesday’s attack. One Republican senator who requested anonymity to discuss his conversations with GOP colleagues acknowledged GOP lawmakers should have served as a stronger check on the president over the past four years.

“We should have done more to push back, both against his rhetoric and some of the things he did legislatively,” said the lawmaker. “The mistake we made is that we always thought he was going to get better. We thought that once he got the nomination, and then once he got a Cabinet he was going to get better, he was going to be more presidential.”

> The president’s party: National Republicans interviewed by The Hill say Trump may have permanently alienated millions of center-right voters who were disgusted by Wednesday’s ugly scene in Washington. But they acknowledged that the president retains enormous political power for the time being, despite bipartisan calls that he resign or be ousted from the Oval Office immediately (The Hill).

> Legal jeopardyThe New York Times, Michael S. Schmidt and Maggie Haberman: Trump in recent weeks is said to have discussed with aides the prospect of pardoning himself. The president has long maintained he has such power and his polling of aides’ views is typically a sign he is poised to act. Trump has expressed concern that he will be a target of law enforcement after leaving office.

"His legal risks increase immeasurably come Jan. 21, both on the civil and the criminal side," Danya Perry, a former state and federal prosecutor in New York, told NPR in November.

LEADING THE DAY

REPERCUSSIONS: Transportation Secretary Elaine Chaowife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos resigned on Thursday in reaction to Wednesday’s tumultuous events in Washington (The Associated Press). … U.S. Special Envoy to Northern Ireland Mick MulvaneyTrump’s former White House chief of staff, resigned (CNBC) . … Ryan Tully, senior director for European and Russian Affairs at the White House, also quit (Bloomberg News), as did Tyler Goodspeed, the acting chairman of Trump’s Council of Economic Advisers, and Mark Vandroff, senior director for defense policy at the National Security Council (The New York Times and Defense News).

At least nine senior administration officials have announced their resignations (The Associated Press). At the same time, lawmakers and others are urging administration personnel to remain in place to help ensure an orderly transition.

“No matter what course of action is taken against President Trump in 13 days, Joe Biden will be sworn in as President of the United States. Until then, I urge the good men and women honorably serving at all levels of the federal government to please stay at their post for the protection of our democracy,” West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, a Democrat who represents a red state, said in a statement. “The actions of a rogue president will not and should not reflect on you. Instead, your patriotism and commitment to the greater good of our country will be reaffirmed.”

Politico: Former White House communications director Alysa Farah: “I stepped down because I saw where this was heading.”

> Capitol security: Hours after Pelosi on Thursday called for the resignation of U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund, he submitted his resignation with barely seven months on the job (The Hill). Pelosi also announced the resignation of the House sergeant-at-arms after the shocking breach of the Capitol by rioters.

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), the top House appropriator charged with funding the Capitol Police, joined the Speaker on Thursday in promising an investigation or review of security planning and police responses, including the fatal shooting by an officer of a 35-year-old woman inside the Capitol. "There were some strategic mistakes from the very beginning," Ryan said (The Hill and Politico).

The Hill: Bipartisan anger builds over police failure at the Capitol.

The Hill: Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick collapsed after being injured while confronting rioters on Wednesday and died on Thursday night. He became the fourth fatality tied to the Capitol clashes.

During a news conference, Pelosi said her focus remains on what she called the “danger” Trump and his supporters pose between now and the administration of the oaths of office to Biden and Kamala Harris as vice president.

"If there's anything learned about [Wednesday's violence], is that we have to be very, very careful. Because these people and their leader, Donald Trump, do not care about the security of people, they don't care about our democracy, they don't care about the peaceful transfer of power," she said (The Hill).

The Associated Press reported that the Capitol Police turned down two offers of federal help — one from the Pentagon three days before Wednesday’s mayhem and another from the Justice Department on Wednesday with an offer of FBI assistance. The Capitol Police planned in advance only for a free speech demonstration, despite detailed news accounts (see The Washington Post) about extremist, pro-Trump groups that intended to rally in Washington to oppose Biden’s victory, with excitement about Trump’s invitation on Twitter: “Be there, will be wild!” (The New York Times).

Earlier in the day, Sund, a former D.C. police officer, defended his team’s response. The assault on the Capitol was “unlike any I have ever experienced in my 30 years in law enforcement here in Washington, D.C.,″ he said. ”Make no mistake: these mass riots were not First Amendment activities; they were criminal riotous behavior. The actions of the USCP officers were heroic given the situation they faced″ (The Associated Press).

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) on Thursday added to the day’s criticism. “Obviously it was a failure or you would not have had people enter the Capitol by breaking windows and terrorizing the members of Congress who were doing a very sacred requirement of their jobs,″ she said.

> Megaphones: In one of the most consequential reactions to Wednesday’s violence and Trump’s incendiary rhetoric, Twitter and Facebook on Wednesday initially took steps to temporarily suspend Trump’s accounts, despite howls of protest from the president’s base (The  Washington Post). A day later, Facebook and Instagram (owned by Facebook), extended the suspension indefinitely — at least through the remainder of Trump’s presidency (The Washington Post).

Twitter, for years a powerful Trump megaphone, ended a 12-hour suspension of the president’s account on Thursday, noting that the platform might take further action while it tracks “activity on the ground and statements made off Twitter” (The Associated Press). The president had immediately deleted some of his tweets in an effort to release Twitter’s suspension (Fox News).

The social media behemoths have spent much of Trump’s term tiptoeing around objections that the president uses the platforms to spread false information and drive news media coverage while also employing divisive, bullying language akin to hate speech to assail people who do not have equivalent social media clout to fight back. Facebook and Twitter are under intense regulatory and congressional scrutiny as Democrats prepare to control both the executive and legislative branches this month.

Patriots from across America are overwhelming Washington DC to peacefully support President Trump’s fight against
election fraud.
Early reports reveal hundreds of thousands have already gathered near the White House to listen to Trump and millions have
traveled to the nation’s capital to join the Save America March.

During Trump’s speech, the crowd erupted as he laid out the battle plan for how he will expose the fraud that enabled the disastrous November election.

Also, Trump celebrated how the crowd was so big that it sprawled “all the way back” to the Washington Monument.

Already, the mainstream media is actively ignoring footage from DC that reveals the enormous amount of Americans that are rejecting their globalist agenda.

The sheer size of the crowd shows that American’s are eager to support President Trump’s populist agenda, despite the mainstream media and Big Tech’s efforts to quell the rally before it even began.

These are dark days for our Republic. Does light await on the other side?

Capitol Hill exploded in pandemonium on Wednesday afternoon as masses of President Trump’s supporters marched on Congress while lawmakers counted the electoral votes from the 2020 presidential race that would certify Joe Biden as president and Kamala Harris as vice president.

Storming barricades, protesters made their way into the Capitol, prompting the postponement of the electoral vote counting process as Vice President Mike Pence and members of Congress were evacuated to their offices for safety.

Clashes arose between police and the president’s supporters. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) reportedly requested that National Guard troops clear and secure the Capitol.

Once inside the Capitol Building, groups of protesters (perhaps including agents provocateurs) wandered down the halls looking for lawmakers. Some made it onto the floor itself, with one individual climbing onto the dais and yelling “Trump won that election!”

Emotions ran high as conservatives, not only in D.C. but across the nation, felt a sense of betrayal as key Republican figures showed they weren’t going to help President Trump overturn the electoral results believed to have been compromised due to fraud.

Contrary to what the president had expected of him, Vice President Mike Pence did not block the votes from such states as he counted the results.

“I do not believe that the Founders of our country intended to invest the Vice President with unilateral authority to decide which electoral votes should be counted during the Joint Session of Congress, and no Vice President in American history has ever asserted such authority,” Pence wrote in a statement released before the counting began.

The vice president added, “I will keep the oath I made to them and I will keep the oath I made to Almighty God.”

President Trump criticized Pence on Twitter over the decision.

The president (who had called on Americans to be present at the Capitol on Wednesday in the first place) did, however, urge protesters to be peaceful.

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1346904110969315332

After the capitol building was breached, he also made a one-minute video statement urging people to go home:

In another move that left Trump supporters wringing their hands, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) attempted to block members of his chamber from challenging the certification process.

“Our democracy would enter a death spiral” if Congress overturned Joe Biden’s victory, McConnell said.

Prior to a sudden halt in the proceedings, GOP lawmakers objected to Arizona’s slate of electors, leading to separate debates on accepting the slate in both chambers.

The storming of the Capitol further highlights the looming possibility of civil war or a similarly existential conflict enveloping America in the near future. When a significant portion of the people, whether on the Right or Left, no longer sees their government as legitimate — whether that belief is correct or not — they will seek to break the bands that tie them to that government.

The Left and Right in America have grown irreconcilable in their ideological differences, and each increasingly views any institution controlled by the other as illegitimate. The current sad state of affairs can be exploited by freedom’s enemies to foment violence and use the violence as a rationale for imposing police-state powers on the road to tyranny.

Yet violence can be avoided if both sides return to the founding principle of federalism. Under the Constitution, the national government possesses only those few and defined powers granted to it, and all other powers are reserved to the states and the people. Thus, some states may be more conservative and others more liberal in their policies, depending on what the citizens of those states want. Moreover, state governments can and should exercise their power of nullification to stop unconstitutional infringements by the national government at their state borders. States also need to restore election integrity — and should do so quickly — so that elections can no longer be stolen. And of course, the people need to be better informed regarding the principles of sound government, so they are not beguiled into voting themselves into slavery.

Undertaking such steps will do much to quell tensions and restore both the states and the federal government to the roles intended by the Founders.

Massive Dem Election Fraud Operation From Italy Revealed~President Trump Briefed On Proof

Election Hacking by Italian Operatives, CIA with funding setup by Obama, Renzi

Recording of a Conference Call from members of Nations in Action plus others. http://nationsinaction.org

Sophisticated election theft funded by Obama, executed by Italian military contractor, says top former CIA chief

The theft of the election was orchestrated in the Rome embassy by an employee Stefano Serafini, a foreign service officer of over 20 years. He retired the day before the election to ensure he would not lose his pension unlike what happened to some of the FBI agents who betrayed our country in 2016 and did lose their pension just days before their retirement. Stefan Serafini coordinated with general Claudio Graziano, who is on the board of Leonardo SPA (an Italian aerospace defense contractor). Leonardo used their military satellite uplink to load the software and transfer it over to change the votes from Trump to Biden. The plan was orchestrated by Barack Obama with the help of Matteo Renzi, the former prime minister of Italy. The Italian intelligence service supplied intercepts, photos, phone calls, and (shockingly) pictures of the CIA agents who have been involved in orchestrating this. Italy did it. The basic questions about exactly what caused the major voting irregularities in the six battleground states on Election Day have been answered, according to a government watchdog nonprofit and a former CIA officer.

Not only that, but President Trump has been personally briefed on the smoking-gun proof, according to Maria Zack, chairman of Nations in Action, a government watchdog nonprofit.

In a phone call with volunteers and contributors on Tuesday, Nations in Action chairman Maria Zack explained how she came upon irrefutable proof that the 2020 election fraud originated in Italy, involving a veteran foreign services officer and Italian defense contractor Leonardo.

“The theft of the election was orchestrated in the Rome embassy…by an employee Stephan Serafini, a foreign service officer of over 20 years,” Zack said.

“Stephan Serafini coordinated with a General Claudio Graziano, and Gen. Graziano is on the board of Leonardo SpA, the defense contractor. Leonardo used their military satellite uplink to load the software and transfer it over to change the votes from Trump to Biden.”

“The proof that was missing, the very basic ‘who did it, where did they do it, and how did they do it’, had been missing from all the documents sent into the courts. There was nothing that was helping us win in the courts,” she added.

This unprecedented foreign cyberattack was funded by none other than former U.S. President Barack Obama, Zack said.

“They thought they were very shrewd in how they did it. They had a really brilliant plan that was orchestrated by Barack Obama with the help of Renzi, the former prime minister of Italy,” she said.

Zack claims she obtained a sworn affidavit from a whistleblower within Leonardo, the 8th largest defense contractor, outlining how the election crime of the century was committed and passed it along to President Trump and his lawyers on Christmas Eve at Mar-a-Lago.

“And I informed him that he is getting the best Christmas present he could ever ask for, the affidavits of the people who did it, and their confession and assistance in letting everybody know what happened,” she said.

“I said ‘Merry Christmas sir, we’re about to give you the best Christmas present ever, you’re going to have the evidence you need from the Italian whistleblower who actually committed the crime of uploading the software.'”

She implored the pro-Trump movement to rally around this information because even though the perpetrators “lost and don’t know it yet,” they’re desperate and hope to silence the whistleblowers.

“We need the grassroots support like never before and the reason is, aside from the fact that we’ve just awakened the sleeping giant in people who thought that they escaped with the greatest theft in the history of the world, they actually have lost and they don’t know it yet,” Zack said.

Zack then explained that when the proof comes out, the states must act swiftly and punish harshly those who tried to interfere in our election.

“States must prosecute all illegal voting activities and provide immediate legislative remedies. There can only be zero tolerance for criminal interference in American elections. This international conspiracy must be met with swift action by the President and be fully supported by elected officials for the protection of voting integrity and the prosperity of our great nation.”

Former CIA operations officer Brad Johnson claimed in December that the U.S. government had discovered the Italian election fraud operation used Leonardo’s satellite network to upload fraudulent votes into the main swing states’ systems via the internet.

“I think we’re finally tracking this down as to where the actual problems took place. All this broke in Italy,” Johnson said.

“The way it’s shaping up now, that the U.S. elections were changed, the results were changed in 5 or 6 key states, all those voting machines were hooked up to the internet. The internet was then used to download the information to those famous servers in Germany.”

If these claims are true, Biden will never set foot in the White House again, and the world will soon learn the truth about the biggest theft in American history.

Iran’s Rouhani on Trump: ‘In a few days, the life of this criminal will end and he will go to the dustbin of history’

Imagine the outcry if Trump said that Rouhani’s life would end in a few days. Rouhani, the president of a country that sponsors jihad terror around the world, would be indignantly defended by the international media. But if Trump were killed, the same media would cheer and blame the victim, so there is no controversy over Rouhani’s remarks.

“Martyr Qasem Soleimani was a national hero, a brave, unique moderate leader with tact/ US President, Secretary of State among the main perpetrators of this crime, brutal assassination of Martyr Soleimani/ Zionists, Americans the only ones who enjoy chaos, war, insecurity in the region,” President.ir, December 30, 2020 – 11:57

Speaking in a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Dr Hassan Rouhani said, “The martyrdom of Martyr Soleimani was revenge against the Islamic Republic of Iran, independence of regional countries and revenge against those great nations that stood against the conspiracies of the United States and Zionism and foiled that conspiracy”.

The president called the ISIL terrorist group a handful of Zionist and American mercenaries in the region and stressed, “They did not want the ISIL to end like this, they wanted ISIL to take over the region, and that is why when they were wounded, the Israelis would take them to their hospitals, healed them and re-equipped them”.

Dr Rouhani said that the only ones who benefit from chaos, war and insecurity in the region are first the Zionists and then the Americans, adding, “No one in the region would benefit from an insecure in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen or Afghanistan”.

The president added, “They wanted to take revenge on a great man who stood tactfully against their plots. Some people think that Martyr Soleimani was a unique, brave general, which is true, but it is not only courage, but also his wisdom is also important”.

Dr Rouhani pointed out, “I got acquainted with Martyr Soleimani in the war and since 1983 during the Holy Defence, and since 1997 and 1998, when he took on new responsibilities, we would meet each other almost every week. During my presidency, we had many meetings in various fields”.

“He was a man of prudence, he understood things perfectly, he was a man of analysis, he understood the politics of the region and the world, and he was literally moderate, neither right, nor left,” said the President.

The President emphasised, “No party or faction can consider Martyr Soleimani as its own, Martyr Soleimani is a national hero and an honour for the whole Iranian nation, for the nations of the region and for the revolutionary Muslims. Of course, they wanted to take the national hero from us, but I believe they made a mistake. This national hero of ours became an eternal hero, and forever in our history, Martyr Soleimani is one of our great historical heroes”.

The President said that the people of the whole region owe a lot to Martyr Soleimani and he has made great efforts to establish security and peace in the region, adding, “The cruel ISIL who were trained by the Arrogance and the Zionism wanted to disrupt peace and security of the region, and the United States, Zionism, and those whose interests were at stake in the region took revenge on Martyr Soleimani for thwarting their plots”.

Dr Rouhani said that the first response to the White House executioners was given by the Iraqi people at the glorious funerals of Martyr Soleimani and Martyr al-Muhandis, saying, “The funeral of these martyrs in different cities across Iran were historic days and a strong slap on the American criminals”.

The President called the Iraqi parliament’s decision on the need for American troops to leave the country an important step taken by members of the Iraqi parliament and said, “The enemy’s goal was to break the resistance in the region with the martyrdom of Martyr Soleimani, but it was the other way around and the spirit of resistance in the region boosted”.

Stating that Martyr Soleimani became eternal and today the path of resistance continues with the same enthusiasm until the complete withdrawal of the Americans from the region, Dr Rouhani said, “As I said after the martyrdom of Martyr Soleimani, I emphasise again that if you cut off Martyr Soleimani’s hand, we will cut off your leg from the region and we will continue the resistance until that day”.

The President added, “One of the effects of this stupid and disgraceful act was that Trumpism ended and in a few days, the life of this criminal will end and he will go to the dustbin of history, and we are very happy about this and we believe that the period after Trump will be a better condition for regional and global stability”….

Pentagon: AIRCRAFT CARRIER Nimitz Staying in Middle East After Threats to Trump, Officials

The Pentagon has ordered the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Nimitz to stay in the Middle East because of threats from Tehran against President Donald Trump and other U.S. officials in an order three days after the warship was sent home in an effort to de-escalate tensions that had been growing with Iran.

Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller on Sunday ordered the ship's routine redeployment halted, issuing a short statement that said the ship will "remain on station in the U.S. Central Command area of operations. No one should doubt the resolve of the United States of America," reports The New York Times.

The ship had been ordered redeployed to its homeport in Bremerton, Wash., after its 10-month deployment.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani last week, in a speech to his Islamic nation's cabinet, declared Trump would be dead "in a few days" as the first anniversary of the death of Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani, the commander of Iran’s Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, approached. Suleimani was killed in a U.S.-ordered drone strike.

Intelligence agencies have assessed for months that Iran wants to target senior American military officers and civilian leaders to avenge Soleimani's death.

Trump administration officials suggested Sunday that with the week in politics looming that includes the Senate runoff race in Georgia Tuesday and the meeting of the House and Senate on Wednesday to certify President-elect Joe Biden's win, the optics of the Nimitz leaving the Middle East was not suitable for the White House, the Times reported.

Trump threatened Iran on Twitter just before Christmas, and top national security aides in November talked him out of launching a pre-emptive strike against a nuclear site in Iran.

In recent weeks, the Pentagon's Central Command has made several public shows of force to warn Iran about attacks on U.S. troops and diplomats, including using the Nimitz with other warships for air cover for troops pulling out of Iraq, Somalia, and Afghanistan.

The Air Force has also dispatched B-52 bombers to fly near Iran's coast and the Navy announced that it has ordered a submarine with cruise missiles, for the first time in 10 years, into the Persian Gulf.

Trump Acted Properly, The Media is Lying About His Georgia Call

Trump's call with Raffensperger reveals U.S. President is a great negotiator & never gives up

BY MATT MARGOLIS

republished below in full unedited for informational, educational & research purposes:

Over the past couple of days, media headlines have tried to convey the impression that a leaked phone call between President Trump and top Georgia officials shows Trump pressuring Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to fraudulently “find” enough votes for him to win the state.

“Trump pressures Georgia’s Raffensperger to overturn his defeat in extraordinary call” read the headline from the Washington Post.

CNN called the leaked audio “astonishing new evidence of a desperate President Donald Trump” trying to “steal the election,” claiming Trump “tried to bully” Raffensperger “into finding votes” for him.

But a review of the transcript of the call shows no such thing. The Washington Post claimed that Trump “repeatedly urged [Raffensperger] to alter the outcome of the presidential vote in the state,” but that isn’t what happened.

Throughout the conversation, Trump lays out the evidence that there was voter fraud in the state, and demands an honest accounting of the ballots, which he believes would give him more than 11,000 votes needed to win the state. “I just want to find 11,780 votes,” is the key quote cited by the media, but there’s more to the quote.

“So look. All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state,” is what Trump said, in context. He also insisted that “there’s no way I lost Georgia. There’s no way. We won by hundreds of thousands of votes.”

During the conversation, Trump laid out the evidence, explaining how there “4,502 voters who voted but who weren’t on the voter registration list,” and “18,325 vacant address voters” whose votes should not have been counted. He even mentioned 904 votes linked to post office boxes, which is also not allowed. Trump also mentioned the State Farm videotape that corresponds to a late-night vote dump of at least 18,000 votes which were counted after Republican poll watchers were told to leave. Trump brought up nearly 5,000 out-of-state votes, 2,326 absentee ballots sent to vacant addresses, and roughly 5,000 votes from dead people. Then there are the suspicious military ballots that went all for Biden.

“So there were many infractions, and the bottom line is, many, many times the 11,779 margin that they said we lost by — we had vast, I mean the state is in turmoil over this,” Trump said on the call.

Raffensperger disputed Trump’s claims, saying that only two dead people voted, that the State Farm video didn’t actually show fraud. Raffensperger also claimed that an audit showed that there weren’t any ballots that were scanned three times.

While it’s true that not all of these allegations by Trump’s team may pan out or be proven, the allegations are linked to many thousands of votes and should be investigated properly. Yes, Trump did acknowledge that he’d only need roughly 12,000 votes to change the result, but that margin is smaller than the number of disputed ballots. “Look, Brad. I got to get . . . I have to find 12,000 votes, and I have them times a lot. And therefore, I won the state. That’s before we go to the next step, which is in the process of right now. You know, and I watched you this morning, and you said, well, there was no criminality.”

Trump very clearly believes that he legitimately won Georgia, and wasn’t asking Raffensperger to fraudulently “find” enough ballots to make up that margin. Trump discussed at length the examples of fraud, which are backed up by video evidence, affidavits, and statistical analyses.

Like the transcript with Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky that Democrats impeached him over, this phone call is yet another nothing burger that has the media and the left crying foul. There’s already a Wikipedia page for the “Trump-Raffensperger scandal.” Democrats are reportedly looking to censure Trump and have asked FBI Director Wray to open a criminal probe. But Trump quite clearly presented evidence that there was fraud, and made the case that the number of disputed ballots is larger than his deficit in the certified results. A proper investigation would resolve these outstanding questions about these disputed ballots.

“We have divided up the list of lawyers who work at the firm so that together we can contact a huge number of people – and this is your assigned person.” – Shut Down DC Mailing, November 13, 2020

The militant left-wing group Shut Down DC is doxxing specific attorneys in a mass email sent on November 13, 2020. In the email, Shut Down DC provides supporters with a unique “assigned” attorney to harass with form letters and pre-scripted phone calls.

Shut Down DC, along with their many allies in big tech, the mainstream media and the democrat-funded Lincoln Project, have launched a full-on attack on law firms and individual attorneys for daring to take on cases that may possibly bring wrong-doing to light, as reported at RAIR Foundation USA.

Shut Down DC asks supporters to join them in “visiting [law firm] King & Spalding” and to assist in their “virtual campaign” where they provide supporters with their “assigned” attorney’s name, phone number and email address. The left-wing group also reminds supporters that they can participate in shaming attorneys on social media.

“I am very concerned that King & Spalding is pursuing frivolous lawsuits for the Trump campaign that are undermining our democracy and attempting to silence the voices of Black and brown voters,” the juvenile and amateur form letter reads in part. “You are complicit in Trump’s effort to bully and cheat his way through this election and impede a stable and safe transfer of presidential power,” the letter continues.

Here is a screenshot of the mass mailing, sent through the Action Network, which describes itself as “a mission-driven organization dedicated to building power for the progressive movement…”

The mainstream media has thrown away all semblance of objectivity and journalistic integrity, with some even threatening attorneys that if they work with the Trump Administration, they may not have a job in the future, like this menacing message from The Atlantic:

Image
Threatening Message to Attorneys: If you work with Trump, you might not keep your job

The authors of the Atlantic piece, Bradley P. Moss and Joanne Molinaro, are rabidly against the President and have been from the beginning. Moss, who obsessively tweets about the President, referred to claims of voter fraud as “baseless and pathetic” and Molinaro even wrote a poorly-written open letter to President Trump bashing him for making her mad at her boyfriend and having white voters, or something.

While the complicit left is counting on the ignorance of their base, there is a constitutional process that must be completed. The mainstream media is not constitutionally authorized to call elections.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo explains:

“We’re gonna count all the votes. When the process is complete, there’ll be electors selected. There’s a process. The Constitution lays it out pretty clearly.”

AS PER DATA SCIENTISTS: Georgia data reveals 30,000+ Trump votes removed, another 12,173 switched to Biden

Georgia election data indicates at least 30,000 votes were removed from President Donald Trump and another 12,173 votes were switched to Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, data scientists testified on Dec. 30 during a state Senate hearing.

The Georgia Senate Subcommittee held a hearing on December 30th and called Rudy Giuliani to testify based on his investigation. January 6, 2021: The Day of the Electoral Epiphany

BY DAVID SOLWAY

republished below in full unedited for informational, educational & research purposes:

January 6 marks the festival of the Christian Epiphany commemorating the visit of the Magi—the three “wise men” of popular parlance—bringing gifts to the Christ child. It is also the day on which the presidency of the United States will be determined as the “wise men” of Congress meet to certify or decertify the vote of the Electoral College. The question is whether the current legitimate president will be recognized or whether a pretender to the throne, a false messiah, or, to put it bluntly, a corrupt grifter benefitting from the largest electoral fraud in American history will be confirmed in his stead.

Three facts should be obvious.

The first is that the list of Donald Trump’s accomplishments as president is a long one: the Middle East peace treaties, wage gains for low wage earners, elimination of the ISIS Caliphate, low unemployment (pre-COVID), Operation Warp Speed, energy independence, rapid economic recovery, reduction of economy-strangling regulations, pushback against Chinese Communist subversive tactics (including his recent release of Chinese bounty intel), returning manufacturing and industry to the homeland, immigration sanity, forcing NATO allies to pay their fair share of military expenses, the renegotiating of trade deals in America’s favor, in short, the policy of America First—to mention only a few of his extraordinary achievements.

Second, he has been routinely and viscerally misrepresented and traduced by a hostile and corrupt media consortium that has suppressed or sullied a record any responsible president would be proud of. Clearly, we no longer have a fair and trustworthy press but a Soviet-style propaganda machine trading on lies, unceasing vitriol and relentless ad hominem attacks on a sitting president.

Third, the evidence of massive and unprecedented electoral fraud that may well cost Trump the election is undeniable: preventing inspectors from observing the vote count, accepting illegal mail-in ballots and invalid (without dates) absentee ballots, random assignment of ballots, vote dumping, ballot box stuffing, votes exceeding the number of estimated voters, registering 120-year-old voters, transference of votes from Trump to Biden in battleground states, suitcases filled with ballots dragged out from beneath a covered table after mandated poll observers were told to leave, thousands of affidavits attesting to illegitimate activities, election rules drastically changed, hackable and manipulated voting machines and practices, and so on. The documentation is everywhere. Pennsylvania election numbers don’t add upoutcome-determinative fraud occurred in GeorgiaRepublican ballots were misprinted in several swing states. The fraud, which is, in effect, an integral part of a premeditated coup d’état and “the biggest political scandal in U.S. history,” cannot be doubted or dismissed except by committed partisans of the Democratic Party, #NeverTrumpers, insurrectionary cadres like Antifa and BLM, useful idiots, and data-censoring corporate magnates frustrated by an honest broker in the Oval Office.

Trump has been faulted for his brusque rhetorical style, for his lack of polish, for his incessant Twittering, for his thin-skinned reaction to criticism, for his hands, for his hair, for his past—indeed, for anything his adversaries can think of. Certainly, he is not flawless, but I suspect his only significant fault is possibly his misjudging the vast extent of the “swamp,” and not acting early enough to counter its malignance.

For the swamp is everywhere: in Congress, in the intelligence agencies, in the education establishment K-12 to post-graduate (including the professoriate and academic administration), in state legislatures, in the judiciary, in many of the churches, in the media gutters and high-tech platforms, in communal organizations and in a considerable portion of the nation. Perhaps Trump should have invoked the Insurrection Act. Perhaps he should have challenged Section 230 of the Communication Decency Act earlier in his term. Perhaps he should have fired the problematic elements and Obama holdovers in the military leadership and replaced them with reliable personnel. Perhaps he should have relied on executive privilege to ensure that the plotters who spied on his campaign and who used extraconstitutional means to remove a duly elected president be charged in criminal court or according to the Articles of the Constitution (Article II, Section 1). He should definitely have investigated the electoral apparatus and adopted preventive measures years before the current election. Then again, he is one man against a veritable world.

In this respect, I recall a lecture given by the celebrated education author and psycholinguist Frank Smith, which I attended when guesting at Brigham Young University. Smith was lamenting the state of the culture, which he felt had grown so decadent, divisive, and mendacious that it could no longer be salvaged. “We’re on the Titanic,” he said, “and we’re going down. Save yourself if you can. Jump ship.” The problem, so far as I could see, was that there was nowhere to jump. Everything is the Titanic: the sea, the land, the lifeboats, even the iceberg. The only solution, within the terms of the metaphor, was to keep bailing in order to maintain the ship afloat, in the hope that a competent crew could be dispatched to repair the damage before the foundering.

Similarly, as noted, the swamp is everywhere, giving off its fetid neo-Marxist/Globalist stench. Another four years of a Trump presidency will serve to drain it further, and perhaps make political life somewhat more bearable, but the swamp will continue to pollute the constitutional order of the nation. The battle is endless against the abominations who inhabit the swamp, the Shambling Mounds, the Green Hags, the Bullywugs, the Stirges, and especially the Mud Mephits and Yuan-tis. But this is more than a Dungeons & Dragons gaming session; it is a war for survival. Should Trump be re-elected, he will need all the help he can get when, as Adventurer-in-Chief, he enters the swamp to confront its foul denizens.

As Lee Smith writes in his recent The Permanent Coup, detailing the “desperate measures” of America’s domestic enemies, “The coup aimed at toppling Donald Trump will not end in November 2020, whether he is reelected or not…because it is aimed mainly at Americans…it’s weaponized to destroy anyone the left perceives as its enemy.” Trump and a few loyal allies are all America has as a bulwark against the advancing fen, in an effort to keep it at bay and reduce its lethality. Should a spurious and criminal election fail to be overturned, the swamp will inundate the land and there will be no Ark to ride it out, no Titanic to keep afloat.

In his Agony and Eloquence: John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and a World of Revolution, American historian Daniel Mallock reflects: “Every generation has its own times that try the souls of men and women. The present belongs to the living” who must honor the gift deeded to them by great and patriotic men like Adams and Jefferson, nation-builders like Washington and Lincoln. “Every generation writes its own history,” he continues, “Our interpretation will change but the truth of the matter will not; it is our responsibility to weigh the evidence and know the difference between the shadows of our prisms and the sometimes-dim light of historical truth.” The “dim light” also occludes our vision, not only of historical truth but of present reality, thanks to the efforts of an obscurantist media and the derelictions of our public institutions. Nevertheless, “it is our responsibility to weigh the evidence” of electoral malfeasance and institutional complicity to arrive at “the truth of the matter” and to act upon it

This January 6 is the critical moment in the modern history of the United States. The secular Epiphany will “show forth” whether there will be anything to celebrate or whether it will manifest as a terminal mockery of the will of the majority of the  American people and the virtual end of the American Republic.

Did Iran’s President Just Threaten to Kill Donald Trump?

Iran's President Just Said Trump's Life 'Will End' in 'a Few Days'

U.S. troops suspect that Iran may attempt to take revenge on President Donald Trump for the death of Quds Force General Qassem Soleimani on the anniversary of the airstrike that killed Soleimani. This week, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani sent a cryptic warning to Trump, gloating about Trump’s loss in the 2020 election and warning that the American president’s life “will end” in “a few days.”

In a speech during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Rouhani warned, “As I said after the martyrdom of Martyr Soleimani, I emphasize again that if you cut off Martyr Soleimani’s hand, we will cut off your leg from the region and we will continue the resistance until that day.”

“One of the effects of this stupid and disgraceful act was that Trumpism ended and in a few days, the life of this criminal will end and he will go to the dustbin of history, and we are very happy about this and we believe that the period after Trump will be a better condition for regional and global stability,” the Iranian president added, according to an Iranian government official English translation of the remarks.

While it is possible Rouhani meant that Trump’s political life will end, the official Iranian translation suggests the president was referring to Trump’s physical life.

Rouhani’s remarks came just as Iranian officials had pre-emptively blamed Trump for a confrontation that had yet to occur. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif accused President Donald Trump of attempting to fabricate a pretext to attack Iran before incoming President Joe Biden replaces him. Such an accusation seems rather suspicious.

“Instead of fighting Covid in US, [Trump] & cohorts waste billions to fly B52s & send armadas to OUR region. Intelligence from Iraq indicate plot to FABRICATE pretext for war,” Zarif claimed on Twitter Thursday.

The U.S. military did indeed fly two nuclear-capable B-52 bombers to the Middle East in a message of deterrence to Iran on Wednesday, but the bombers have since left the region, the Associated Press reported. The Pentagon announced on Thursday that the Nimitz aircraft carrier, which had been stationed off the coast of Somalia, would be heading toward its homeport on the U.S. West Coast.

A U.S. official told the AP that U.S. troops in Iraq are worried about what Iranian-backed militias might do in the lead-up to the anniversary of Soleimani’s assassination on January 3, 2020. Iran is planning events to mark the anniversary.

While Trump did blame Iran for rockets fired at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad on the Sunday before Christmas, warning that the U.S. would strike back if Iran or its proxies killed any American troops, the removal of the B-52 bombers and the aircraft carrier suggests the U.S. does not have a plan to strike Iran, unless the Islamic Republic provides provocation.

Trump Sends Iran a Powerful Warning After Latest Strike on U.S. Embassy

Iran-backed militias besieged the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad late last year, sparking a series of events that culminated in the Soleimani assassination. Soleimani led Iran’s terrorism efforts in the Middle East and has been responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American soldiers. His death arguably cleared the way for Trump’s historic deals between Israel and Arab states like the United Arab Emirates.

After the strike, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei vowed “severe revenge,” but the regime’s efforts have failed. Iran fired missiles at U.S. assets, but the country also shot down a Ukrainian plane, killing its 176 passengers (82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukrainians, 10 Swedes, 7 Afghans, and 3 British citizens), sparking protests in the streets of Tehran. Iran petitioned INTERPOL to demand an arrest warrant for Trump over Soleimani’s death, but INTERPOL refused. An Iranian issued an $80 million bounty on Trump’s head, to no avail as yet.

U.S. intelligence reports have suggested that Iran is planning to assassinate U.S. Ambassador to South Africa Lana Marks, and in September, a former general of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that the IRGC planned to assassinate Trump.

While Iran’s efforts have failed so far, the Islamic Republic may grow increasingly dangerous in its desperation. Before Soleimani’s death and the subsequent protests, Iran faced protests last November after the country reduced fuel subsidies by 50 percent and instituted rationing, in part due to pressure from the Trump administration after America withdrew from the Iran deal.

Then the coronavirus pandemic came, just before parliamentary elections. Satellite images from space showing mass graves appear to have confirmed the opposition’s claims that Tehran has vastly under-reported the death count from the coronavirus pandemic. Iran’s opposition party is also mobilizing. It hosted a virtual global summit in July.

Unfortunately, it seems Biden plans to return to Obama-style appeasement with Iran, risking Trump’s incredible progress in the Middle East.

If Iran wants to strike the U.S. in retaliation for Trump ordering Soleimani’s death, it had better strike soon — and pre-emptively blaming Trump seems like an attempt to lay down diplomatic cover for an attack. Rouhani’s cryptic warning only makes Zarif’s statements seem even more suspicious.

McConnell Calls $2,000 Stimulus Checks ‘Socialism for the Rich’

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is digging in his heels in opposing the boost in individual stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000. McConnell believes that too much money would be going to people who don’t need it, calling the plan “socialism for the rich.” “Borrowing from our grandkids to do socialism for rich people is a terrible way to get help to families who actually need it,” McConnell said of an effort to boost the checks from $600 to $2,000, which is supported by Donald Trump.

This elicited a harsh response from Vermont’s resident socialist curmudgeon Senator Bernie Sanders: “The majority leader helped lead this body to pass Trump’s tax bill. You want to talk about socialism for the rich Mr. Majority Leader?!”

Tax cuts are the same as “socialism”? We’ll have to remember that.

Democrats and some Republicans want a “stand-alone” bill — an up-or-down vote on the stimulus checks. They aren’t going to get it. Any additional stimulus now awaits the presidency of Joe Biden and the outcome of the Georgia runoff elections.

Politico:

Led by McConnell, many Republicans say the measure the House approved earlier this week delivers too much aid to six-figure earners. The House’s bill would send checks to higher earners more than the two previous rounds of direct payments, according to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.

“Imagine a family of five where the parents earn $250,000 per year and have not seen any income loss this past year. Speaker Pelosi and Senator Sanders want to send them $5,000 from Uncle Sam,” McConnell said.

There’s no doubt that some of that money would be going to people who really don’t need it. But most of it would go to people who are really hurting. Besides the need, there is the rationale that disbursing money now will keep the locked-down economy from sliding deeper toward recession. Some Republicans may not mind seeing a recession in Joe Biden’s first months, but does anyone seriously believe that the media would allow one breath of a suggestion that any economic downturn was the fault of anyone but Donald Trump?

McConnell is preparing the ground for the coming battles on spending during 2021. Republicans will become born-again spendthrifts, having once again discovered they’re supposed to be the party of fiscal prudence and accountability. He is staking out positions now so that later, when Democrats get radically serious about emptying the treasury, he will fight on the ground of his own choosing.

The majority leader doesn’t think the measure has a prayer in the Senate.

On Wednesday, after Trump again insisted upon “$2000 ASAP!” in a tweet, McConnell said the proposal had “no realistic path to quickly pass the Senate” and refused to split the White House’s legislative wish list into separate measures. But that was exactly what Graham pressed the Republican leader to do on Thursday.

“Here’s what I’d like: I’d like a stand-alone vote in the new Congress on the $2,000 check,” Graham said. “We have seven Republicans who’ve already said they would vote for it. We need five more. I think if we had the vote, we would get there.”

McConnell can count noses as well as anyone and he knows the votes aren’t there. If he could sweeten the bill to draw in a few more Republican senators, there would be Democratic objections, rendering the bill dead in the water. Even if he supported the measure, there’s just no way to get there from here.

For Democrats and those Republicans who think a larger stimulus is needed, it’s “wait till next year.”

Shocked, Shocked to Find Europe Cutting Deals With China Behind Our Back

Europe and China yesterday signed a Comprehensive Agreement on Investment after seven years of negotiation. Why now? As I report at Asia Times, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron pushed the deal through to pre-empt anything that the new U.S. administration might have to say on the subject.

From my article:

Representatives of the incoming Biden Administration tried and failed to stop the European Union from signing an investment treaty with China this week.

After seven years of often-stalled negotiations, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron pushed for a final agreement on the Comprehensive Agreement on Investment (CAI) before the new US Administration takes office January 20.

A German government official, speaking on background, said that Europe wanted to present Washington with a fait accompli before the new administration could have a chance to exert pressure on the Europeans to keep a distance from China. China of course was on board for that.

“Members of the Biden team in Brussels campaigned against the deal with China in order to be able to exercise more pressure on China in future negotiations,” reported the center-right German daily Die Welt.

Deputy National Security Adviser Matthew Pottinger said, “Leaders in both U.S. political parties and across the U.S. government are perplexed and stunned that the EU is moving towards a new investment treaty right on the eve of a new U.S. administration.”

Perplexed? Germany now sells more to China than it does to the U.S., thanks to China’s economic snapback and America’s continued economic weakness. East Asia (not just China, but South Korea and Taiwan) crushed the pandemic in weeks, while we still can’t distribute the vaccine we have. Last month China signed the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership with fifteen other Asian countries, eliminating most tariffs on imports from Japan among others. U.S. economic importance is shrinking.

China has a $1.4 trillion, five-year budget to support high tech R&D and investment. China outspends us 10:1 on quantum computing research. China is determined to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution–mobile broadband, quantum communications, quantum computing, Artificial Intelligence, self-programming industrial robots, self-regulating farms, autonomous vehicles, and so forth. It’s no wonder that Europe and Japan are cutting deals with China. China is where the market is, and, increasingly, where the technology is.

Beijing is using trade and investment deals with Europe and Japan to batter its own industry into shape, as I reported at Asia Times.

There’s a lot of talk from the Biden camp about multilateral diplomacy to shape up an alliance of democracies to contain China. It looks like the Biden administration has been made irrelevant before it takes office.

Iran’s Rouhani: ‘Trump’s fate will be no better than Saddam’s fate,’ as Saddam ended up ‘hanging from the gallows’

Iran has become confident and emboldened. The jihadist regime of Iran is salivating at the thought of a Biden administration, during which it is confident that it will have free rein to expand its global adventurism. In its view, America will now “bow” and sanctions against it will end, as the disastrous nuclear deal is reinstated. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has now put President Trump and former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in the same bracket:

“By the grace of God, we won, and the day came when we saw that crazy man hanging from the gallows. On that day, the people saw their final victory [manifest]. And Trump’s fate will be no better than Saddam’s fate.”

“We won” is also how a Biden victory is seen in Iran.

“Iranian President Hassan Rouhani: Trump’s Fate Will Be No Better Than That Of Saddam, Who Ended Up Hanging From The Gallows,” MEMRI, December 23, 2020:

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a December 23, 2020 cabinet meeting that was broadcasted on IRINN TV (Iran) that Saddam Hussein and President Trump are two crazy individuals who have imposed war upon the Iranian people. He predicted that President Trump’s fate will be no better than Saddam’s fate.

Hassan Rouhani: “The truth is that in our history, there were two crazy individuals who waged war against our nation. The first crazy person was Saddam [Hussein], who waged war against us. The second crazy person is Trump, who has waged a different war against us. [Saddam] waged a military war against us, and [Trump] an economic war. We won the military war. We stood hand-in-hand and side-by-side. We were pure of heart and united — one voice. By the grace of God, we won, and the day came when we saw that crazy man hanging from the gallows. On that day, the people saw their final victory [manifest]. And Trump’s fate will be no better than Saddam’s fate.”
