Teen Girl Calls for Change After Encountering Naked Man in YMCA Shower Room

A story out of California illustrates the degree to which “transgender rights” are little more than a license to allow grown men to expose their naked bodies to young girls. A couple of weeks ago, a 17-year-old girl was in the shower room of the Santee, California, YMCA when she witnessed a naked man in the shower room. Her report of the incident drew only irritation from the YMCA staff, who told her that the “woman” she saw had a right to be there.

As San Diego’s KUSI News reported:

Recently, 17-year-old Rebecca Phillips visited the Santee YMCA to workout after work, as she routinely does.

But this time, as she was showering, she encountered a naked man inside the women’s locker as she was showering….

She ran into a stall to hide and change, before informing staff of the naked man freely using the women’s locker room.

Staff said the man, who claims to be transgender, is allowed to shower wherever he wants. Since he identifies as a girl, the naked man chose to use the women’s locker room. Then, the Director of Membership for San Diego County YMCA’s, Teri Maas, called Phillips and informed her she was never in danger with the naked man in the locker room.

Speaking to the Santee City Council last week, Phillips broke down crying as she related the incident.

She told the members of the council that while hiding in the shower stall waiting for the naked man to leave and fearing for her safety, she thought of her young sister. She sobbed as she said, “I could only think of my five-year-old sister who I bring to this gym during the summer to enjoy their water slides,” adding, “This is the YMCA, where hundreds of children spend their summer afternoons in child care camps. This is the YMCA where my little sister took gymnastics lessons. The locker room was supposed to be her safe haven to gossip with her friends and shower and change.”

As to the Y’s claim that “she was never in danger,” Phillips said, “I was made to feel as though I had done something wrong when I talked to people at the YMCA.” She went on to say that after her father reached out to the YMCA to complain of the incident, “The YMCA wouldn’t let my father speak to the manager of the Santee branch. After waiting several days, he finally received a call from Teri Maas … the Director of Membership for San Diego County. She informed my dad that I was not in any danger at the time of the incident. That I was safe.” She then said:

But I ask you this … I’m assuming all of you either have a wife, a sister, daughters or granddaughters or are a woman yourself. Could you knowingly send an underage girl into a room with a naked male and say that she was not in danger, that she was safe, or more importantly, that this [was] right?

 

Phillips — who despite the palpable fear betrayed in her voice, managed to be clear, articulate, and logical in her comments to the council — identified the real point here. A minor girl forced into the presence of a naked man is not safe — and is not right.

When “transgender” activists began demanding a few years ago that men who identify as women should have the “right” to use the bathrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms corresponding to their “gender identity,” right-thinking individuals and organizations (including The New American) warned that minor girls would become victims. Those warnings were pooh-poohed by LGBTQ activists and the mainstream media. And yet, here we are, again — because this is not the first time, and it won’t be the last time.

It is every decent parent’s nightmare: having a grown man expose his naked body to your minor daughter. In saner times and normal circumstances, such depraved behavior would result in the offending male winding up spending time in jail, the hospital, or both. But both sanity and normalcy appear to have taken the last train out of town before 2023. Because while it is illegal for an adult male to expose his naked body to a minor girl, it is now considered perfectly legal for him to do so as long as he “identifies” as a woman at the moment he engages in that very behavior.

When Phillips sat down with KUSI’s Hunter Sowards for a segment of Good Evening San Diego, she said that her goal in sharing her story is to “spark change in San Diego County.” She told Sowards that although the YMCA offers many wonderful programs, “they’ve gone too far” by having a policy allowing grown men to shower with minor girls.

So far, the YMCA appears to be standing by the policy, albeit with some notable squishiness. In a statement to KUSI, the YMCA of San Diego County wrote:

We are aware of a situation involving two members in the locker room of the Santee YMCA earlier this month. The comfort and safety of all our members is our highest priority.

As a community focused organization, we strive to meet the needs of all individuals. We recognize that birth and gender identity are sensitive subjects. We rely on subject matter experts, laws, and guidelines established by the State of California to ensure our policies are welcoming and respectful for all community members.

As part of this commitment to ensure all individuals feel comfortable, we are reviewing [locker] room floorplans across all facilities within our association. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has access to additional privacy if desired and needed.

As KUSI points out in its report, the Y’s policy is the direct result of a decision by San Diego County in May of 2022 to redefine what it means to be a woman. As KUSI reported Friday, “Supervisors Nathan Fletcher, Terra Lawson-Remer, and Nora Vargas all voted in favor of the ordinance, which has resulted in underage girls like Rebecca Phillips fearing for their safety.”

KUSI is an independent station without any affiliation to a network. As an interesting note, the station broke the mainstream media mold by not calling the man in this case a “woman” or using feminine language (she, her, etc.) to refer to him. The headline for KUSI’s report reads, “Santee YMCA allows naked man to use women’s locker room with underage girls.”

The station also wrote, “Carrie Prejean-Boller joined KUSI’s Logan Byrnes on Good Evening San Diego to applaud Rebecca for being a hero, as publicly sharing her experience takes a lot of courage.” It is certainly true that Phillips demonstrated courage to speak out against grown men exposing themselves to minor girls. Sadly, the leaders of both San Diego County and the YMCA lack anything approaching the same courage as this brave young woman.

Philips remarks to the council:

Good evening Council members and residents of Santee behind me . My name is Rebecca Phillips and I am 17 years old.  I am not a resident of Santee, but I am employed at a local restaurant, the Omelet Factory, and I work out regularly at the Santee YMCA .

Just two weeks after my shift at my job, I went to the gym to swim laps. As I was showering after my workout,  I saw a naked male in the women’s locker room.

I immediately went back into the shower, terrified, and hid behind their flimsy excuse for a curtain until he was gone.

I ran into a bathroom stall to change as quickly as I could, organizing my thoughts to share with the people at the front desk. As I did so, I could only think of my five-year-old sister, who I bring to this gym during the summer….sorry…to enjoy their water slides.

This is the YMCA, where hundreds of children spend their summer afternoons in child care camps.

This is the YMCA where my little sister took gymnastics lessons.

The locker room was supposed to be her safe haven to gossip with her friends, and shower and change.

When I asked YMCA management what they policy was regarding transgenders, they confirmed that the man I saw was indeed allowed wherever he pleased. As long as you are not a red flag on Megan’s Law, the Commie California Sex Offender Registry, a grown male can shower alongside a teenage girl at your YMCA location here in Santee.

I was made to feel as though I had done something wrong when I talked to people at the YMCA.

Somehow, the indecent exposure of a male to a female minor was an inconvenience to them.

When my dad spoke to the sheriff’s office, they told him they should never allow me to shower there ever again.

The YMCA wouldn’t let my father speak to the the manager of the Santee branch.

She informed my dad that I was not in any danger at the time of the incident. That I was safe.

But I ask you this…I’m assuming all of you have either a wife, a sister,  daughters or granddaughters or are a woman yourself.

Could you knowingly send an underage girl into a room with a naked male and say she was not in danger, that she was safe, or more importantly, that this right?

The safety of children, girls, is on the chopping block.

And this issue is not unique to one political party. Both Democrats and Republicans whom I have shared the story with have all been equally disgusted.

So, I implore you all to take action. With great privilege comes great responsibility.

(Christian News Network) — More than 100 pastors recently signed a letter to the Ohio Board of Education, which was also sent to 39 school districts, to express opposition to yoga and transcendental meditation being taught in schools as they are rooted in Eastern religion and are a spiritual practice at their core.
The letter, signed by 105 pastors from various denominations, notes that yoga has been taught during school hours in Clear Fork, Galion, Lexington, Lucas, Mansfield and Shelby counties and asks for an assurance that such practices will be discontinued.
“Yoga is not merely an external physical practice with a purely physiological effect, but rather an internal spiritual practice advertised as being able to provide the power to change an individual and transform the world,” it reads. “Specifically, yoga’s ‘stretching’ and ‘breathing’ components, called ‘asanas’ and ‘pranayama’ in Sanskrit, are intended to be spiritually transformative.”
The correspondence points to various court decisions characterizing yoga as being rooted in Hinduism, including the 1988 case of Powell v. Perry, which concluded that “yoga is a method of practicing Hinduism,” and the 1995 case of Self-Realization Fellowship Church v. Ananda Church of Self-Realization, which spoke of the “Hindu-yoga spiritual tradition.”
The pastors further provide examples of classroom or physical education sessions that incorporated yoga, including where a Lexington language arts teacher allegedly taught sixth-graders how to “salute the sun god Surya,” or “bow to the sun,” as well as how to get into a “praying hands posture.”
In Plain School District, an elementary school is said to have created a “mindfulness room” that featured quotes from the Dalai Lama. Its yoga program was discontinued in 2013 following complaints from parents.
One of the groups behind in-school teaching cited by the pastors also teaches Reiki to its followers. Examples of general Facebook posts include, “We will use ushas mudra this week to support the awakening of new and creative possibilities in this new year. What are you ready to manifest in 2020?” “How is your third eye? Are you connected to your vision center?” “How will you raise your vibration today? Come play some yoga with us!” and “Take a screen shot and see what you the Universe wants to tell you.”
The letter also notes that those involved in Eastern religion refute assertions that yoga is not a religious activity. It cites Subhas Tiwari, professor at the Hindu University of America and graduate of Bihar Yoga Bharati University, who once said, “The simple immutable fact is that yoga originated from the Vedic or Hindu culture. Its techniques were not adopted by Hinduism, but rather originated from it.”
The pastors concede that while “[m]ost initiate yoga practice for exercise and stress relief,” for others, “spirituality becomes their primary reason for maintaining practice.” They point to a study of mindful yoga retreat participants, which found that “longer-term meditators were less likely to be religious monotheists and more likely to identify as Buddhist or with ‘all’ religions.”

Further, “[w]hile proponents of Eastern religion allege yoga brings benefits to student practitioners, our biblical faith tradition brings just as many, if not more, scientifically-proven benefits,” the clergy contend. “Yet, ironically in a nation with Judeo-Christian heritage, it is school sanctioned prayer, Intelligent Design curriculum and the display of the Ten Commandments that are strictly prohibited from public schools.”
They therefore ask that the school districts discontinue teaching yoga and transcendental meditation to students.
Signees include pastors Howard Burnett of Perryville Baptist Church, Floyd Allen of Philippian Community Church, Ron Smals of Woodville Grace Brethren, Paul Larson of First English Lutheran Church, Russ Smith of Shiloh Wesleyan Church, Dan Zediker of Mission Point Mansfield, Bill Strader of Bucyrus First Alliance Church, Sylvester Ginn of Hesed Agape Fellowship, Layton Broom of Paradise Hill United Methodist Church, and William Jordan of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ.

As previously reported, in a booklet entitled “Yoga: Exercise or Religion — Does it Matter?”, author Ray Yungen outlines that while many view yoga as harmless exercise, there is no denying that the practice is rooted in Eastern New Age religion.

“The word ‘yoga’ actually means to be yoked to or united in body, mind, and spirit with Brahman (the Hindu concept of God). It doesn’t get more spiritually obvious than that,” he outlined. “… Even the traditional Hindu greeting, Namasté, that is said at the end of yoga classes, is spiritual. When translated, it means, ‘The god in me bows down to (or salutes) the god in you.’”
“If you go to the fitness section of any bookstore and look in the yoga subsection, you will find references to the spiritual aspects of Yoga such as the chakra system, kundalini, etc. in almost every book on yoga. It is quite rare to find a book on yoga that does not incorporate spiritual concepts found in classic Hinduism,” Yungen explained. “To devout Hindus, yoga cannot be separated into physical and spiritual parts. Both are relevant to the practice, with the end desire being a profound religious experience.”
He said that some Christians have wrongly concluded that yoga can be adopted by believers as long as it is stripped of its pagan aspects.
“We live in an age where the acceptance of trendy practices, such as yoga, is hammered into us from every side, with the end result being an ecumenical generic inter-spirituality that fits everybody,” Yungen lamented.
“Believers in Christ have fallen prey to some dangerous ideas. One is that we feel free to draw from pagan sources. Or, as is popularly stated, we can chew the meat and spit out the bones. But this doesn’t make any sense from a biblical standpoint,” he said. “As a Christian, we can’t segregate into portions what part we think will do us harm and what part will profit us. If the foundational spirituality is contrary to God’s word, then it will be folly to interact with it.”

“If you go to the fitness section of any bookstore and look in the yoga subsection, you will find references to the spiritual aspects of Yoga such as the chakra system, kundalini, etc. in almost every book on yoga. It is quite rare to find a book on yoga that does not incorporate spiritual concepts found in classic Hinduism,” Yungen explained. “To devout Hindus, yoga cannot be separated into physical and spiritual parts. Both are relevant to the practice, with the end desire being a profound religious experience.”



He said that some Christians have wrongly concluded that yoga can be adopted by believers as long as it is stripped of its pagan aspects.



“We live in an age where the acceptance of trendy practices, such as yoga, is hammered into us from every side, with the end result being an ecumenical generic inter-spirituality that fits everybody,” Yungen lamented.



“Believers in Christ have fallen prey to some dangerous ideas. One is that we feel free to draw from pagan sources. Or, as is popularly stated, we can chew the meat and spit out the bones. But this doesn’t make any sense from a biblical standpoint,” he said. “As a Christian, we can’t segregate into portions what part we think will do us harm and what part will profit us. If the foundational spirituality is contrary to God’s word, then it will be folly to interact with it.”

HOW TO CREATE A SAFE SPACE FOR LGBTQ CAMPERS

Let’s look at the numbers. Across the country, there are approximately 950,000 children and teens enrolled in YMCA summer camps. There are ten times that many U.S. adults—9 million—who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
These statistics may suggest that at least one child enrolled in any given summer camp has a relative or primary caregiver who identifies as LGBTQ. And perhaps, at least one youth enrolled in your community’s summer camp currently identifies—or in the future may identify—as LGBTQ.
Sobering research Opens a new window reveals 30% of LGBTQ youths have attempted suicide, with LGBTQ youth being nearly five times more likely to have attempted suicide in comparison to heterosexual youth.
So how can youth development professionals create a safe and welcoming environment for all children and teens? And how can we better equip staff to be both curious and knowledgeable about all communities, including LGBTQ communities?

Here are nine recommendations:


    

  1. Recognize that every child is unique in their self-identities, across all dimensions of diversity. No two people are the same. Our perspectives and experiences are influenced by how we identify—and we are ever-changing as we age, grow and develop. This is especially true for children. Take time to get to know each child’s unique self-identities. Include LGBTQ youth in the conversation and ask what will help them to feel safe and included.
    2. 

  2. Be an ally. Support and celebrate openly LGBTQ staff, youth and families.
    3. 

  3. Work to confound gender-based assumptions regarding toys, activities and attire. Use gender-neutral language and invite all children to participate in all activities. Avoid assuming that boys prefer to play sports and girls prefer to make arts-and-crafts.
    4. 

  4. Ensure all campers and staff have access to the facilities aligned with their gender identity and comfort within facility and resource limitations.
    5. 

  5. Provide training opportunities to foster education, awareness and knowledge-building related to LGBTQ communities and best practices for inclusion.
    6. 

  6. Use gender-neutral (or self-identified) pronouns when referencing guardians/parents, partners, families and significant others. When creating registration forms, camper communications and other messaging, consider that not every camper is raised in the same type of home. Being sensitive to language and aiming to respect the way individuals self-identify is a critical step to becoming an inclusive camp.
    7. 

  7. Lift up stories of LGBTQ inclusion in trainings, marketing and camp activities. Do your camp marketing or training materials include people from all walks of life, including same-sex couples, families and transgender individuals?
    8. 

  8. Celebrate Pride Month! June is the official month, but pride can be celebrated year-round! Communicate early and often that your camp is a safe space for LGBTQ youth, families and communities.
    9. 

  9. Build partnerships with local organizations that serve the LGBTQ community, such as houses of worship, health care centers and educational institutions. These relationships may provide support beyond the scope of Y services and also help your staff become more educated and welcoming over time.
    10. 




At the Y, we believe that in a diverse world, we are stronger when we are inclusive and our doors are open to all—this includes LGBTQ identified individuals and communities.

Observing Transgender Day of Remembrance

The Transgender Day of Remembrance is observed annually on November 20 to honor the people killed by anti-transgender violence and celebrate the community members who are still with us. The Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT) and Austin Black Pride will be holding this year’s ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 7-9pm in the TownLake YMCA gymnasium, followed by a mixer and a community conversation.



"This event is meant to take a moment and acknowledge those that we have lost throughout the year, while also uplifting and celebrating the members of the community that are with us today," said Sheldon Darnell, Co-Founder/President of Austin Black Pride, and Rocky Lane, Board President of TENT, in a shared statement. "While we know one evening is not going to bring about an end to senseless violence it's still important to create a space for us to not only mourn, but to show our resilience both collectively and individually." 



For the YMCA, opening our doors for the Trans Day of Remembrance is an opportunity to show support for trans Y members and staff and their families, as well as welcome new people and the wider community into our space, said Rev. Erin Walter, TownLake YMCA Community Engagement Director.



“Trans members, staff, and community members have long been a vital part of the YMCA,” Rev. Walter said. “We hope this gathering helps show trans youth that they are welcome here, underscore to trans elders that they are seen and valued members of our Y programs, and show the whole community that the Y is for all.”



The Transgender Day of Remembrance is both a solemn time – mourning the loss of trans people who have been killed, most of whom are black trans women – and a time to come together in support, celebration, and community care.



“The Day of Remembrance was, historically, the only place in Austin that trans folks regularly gathered,” said Katy Koonce, a longtime YMCA member, nonbinary activist, musician and psychotherapist who predominantly serves the trans community. “There was fear, and there was shame in the early years, and it was a hard sell. But the turnout in the last 10 years or so and the crucial involvement of people of color has been a leap forward.”



Nearby offsite event parking is available west of the facility, contributed by Y neighbors Austin High, Austin Pets Alive, and West Austin Youth Association (WAYA), so that Y members are still able to park in the TownLake lot for general facility use. Basketball players are invited to try the courts at the Southwest YMCA during this time. 



YMCA of Austin board member Danielle Skidmore, an engineer, parent, and longtime Y member, said: “As a YMCA board member and a member of the transgender community, when my friends at the Transgender Education Network of Texas told me that the TownLake YMCA was going to host the 2019 TDOR, it made me so happy and proud to be part of both communities.”



In the long run, supporters hope increased visibility for the Transgender Day of Remembrance will lead to decreased transphobia and anti-trans violence, saving the lives of some of the most marginalized members of our community.

Chicago YMCAs open locker rooms to transgender boys and girls

CHICAGO, Illinois, July 18, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) -- Chicago-area YMCAs have adopted a policy allowing men in the women’s locker rooms and vice versa.



YMCA of Metro Chicago President Dick Malone explained the Y's new transgender policy in a letter sent to members and on the organization's website, stating that the Y "supports every member having the opportunity to use the locker room and restroom they select based on their gender identity."



In a scenario that’s becoming increasingly common, when a YMCA parent complained that a male teenager was changing in the women's lockers, Y staff learned that the boy was a self-declared "transgender" person and defended the boy's use of the girls' showers.











Rae Ulrich, senior vice president of marketing for the YMCA of Metro Chicago, acknowledged that from the parent's perspective, "there was a man in the locker room.  But there wasn't. There was a transgender individual in the locker room."



Malone assured Chicagoland residents that despite its policy to allow the opposite sex in bathrooms, Y members are safe because "the expanded inclusion policy doesn’t give anyone a new opportunity to behave inappropriately."



The controversial policy, which affects all Y programs, including children’s camps and gym and pool facilities, applies to 21 Chicago area YMCAs, serving 140,000 people. It is not known whether Chicago's smaller, independent YMCAs will follow suit.



George Williams, a 22 year-old department store worker, gathered 11 friends to organize the first YMCA in 1844 as a refuge of Bible study and prayer for young men living on the dangerous streets of London.  Its mission for more than 170 years has been to "put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all."

American Values President Gary Bauer said he blames a recent spate of bathroom attacks on the Obama Administration. "The tragedy of political correctness when it comes to the Obama Administration's attempts to force changes across the country will be experienced by the weakest among us," Bauer told LifeSiteNews. "Already, we are hearing stories of abuse in bathrooms, as women and children are alone in closed locations with those who have the potential to hurt them."



Bauer concluded, "Common sense protections need to stay in place, so that the primary goal of public safety is not lost to the social engineering goals of those who do not care who is hurt by their policies."











Vitagliano added, "Christians should certainly be compassionate towards those who are confused or otherwise struggling over their sexual or gender identity, but other people have rights too. For example, many parents and many young people prefer that someone born male not be allowed to undress around girls. Why don’t those feelings count?”



The Chicago Tribune reports that YMCA policy is to address members by the name and pronoun they choose, "regardless of any sex listed on identification." Y staff are being trained by LGBTQ "experts."



In 2015, Pierce and Kitsap counties near Seattle adopted policies allowing members to choose whatever shower or changing room they wish, "no questions asked," but after receiving 1,000 complaints, slightly modified the policy to apply only to adult YMCAs.



A YMCA volunteer and mother named Jill told KTTH that the transgender policy puts children in danger. “(Employees) can’t ask them, they can’t tell them no,” she said. “So any man can say, hey, I’m transgender’ and go in that way.”



Jill explained that giving access to children in intimate private facilities increases the chance of sexual abuse. She also pointed out that the policy makes adults uncomfortable, too.



“Seeing a naked man in my locker room is sexual harassment for me,” Jill said. “That’s the way I feel about it.”



Michelle Larue, senior vice president of marketing with the Pierce and Kitsap YMCA, told KTTH that people who feel uncomfortable showering and changing clothes alongside the opposite sex may use one of the YMCA’s private rooms. But that is exactly the policy that transgenders have sued school districts over, claiming that "separate but equal" facilities are unconstitutional and discriminatory.

A mom at a suburban YMCA recently reported to employees that she was unnerved to find a teenager who appeared to be male using the women's locker room.











But YMCA staff later learned the teen was transgender and determined the youth had every right to access the women's facilities.











"From (the mother's) perspective, there was a man in the locker room," said Rae Ulrich, senior vice president of marketing for the YMCA of Metro Chicago. "But there wasn't. There was a transgender individual in the locker room."











This situation and a few similar scenarios have spurred the YMCA to craft guidelines for accommodating transgender members and guests, which include allowing them access to restrooms and changing areas that match their gender identity.



The protocol was explained in a letter posted Wednesday on the organization's website. The YMCA of Metro Chicago said it also sent the letter to its 140,000 members at its 21 Chicagoland centers. The guidelines will cover all YMCA of Metro Chicago programs and services, from gym and pool facilities to summer camps and various classes. The policies wouldn't apply to some smaller, independent YMCA's in the Chicago area.







"We recognize our commitment in support of the rights of all individuals can cause some to feel uncomfortable," says the letter, signed by Dick Malone, president and CEO of the YMCA of Metro Chicago. "Again, it's our goal for all members to thrive at the Y, and this is why we will do our best to support each of you while maintaining an environment that reflects the inclusive values we share."











Any patron — regardless of gender identity — can opt to use a single-stall or private area when available. YMCA officials say they're also working to add private spaces to all locations.











The YMCA's new guidelines come amid a fervent national debate on transgender rights, particularly over access to public bathrooms and locker rooms.











The U.S. Department of Justice and North Carolina filed clashing lawsuits in May over a new state law requiring everyone use public restrooms and changing areas that correspond to the sex on their birth certificate, which the governor there has called a common-sense privacy policy. The federal agency has said that law violates the Civil Rights Act.











A few days later, the Obama administration issued a directive that all public schools treat transgender students in a manner that correlates with their gender identity, regardless of the sex indicated on their education records or identification. Nearly two dozen states have sued the federal government over that directive.







Locally, a landmark case continues in northwest suburban Palatine after the U.S. Department of Education found Township High School District 211 violated Title IX when a transgender student wasn't permitted to use the girls locker room. The district then gave her access to the locker room, while also installing privacy stalls, but a group of parents and students in May filed a federal lawsuit against the Education Department and school district, arguing it created an intimidating and hostile environment for other students.











With dueling laws and lawsuits in the news, YMCA officials said some members had inquired about their organization's stance on transgender access to public facilities.











Employees are directed to refer to patrons by the name and pronoun they desire, regardless of any sex listed on identification. Staff members are being trained on best practices with the help of experts from the LGBTQ nonprofit Center on Halsted and the Gender and Sex Development Program at Lurie Children's Hospital.











When asked about the guidelines, people at the Elmhurst YMCA on Wednesday night had mixed reactions.











Greg Vanderlaan, 66, who said he has been a member since the mid-1980s, called the guidelines a "big mistake."







"Locker room access should be based on physiology," he said.











"How do you explain this to very young children?" said Joe Idaszak, 84, who also said he's gone to the YMCA for three decades.











But 23-year-old Jake Walters said it didn't really have an impact on him.











"It's kind of a topic people are talking about," he said. "It doesn't surprise me. It doesn't bother me."











The battleground for transgender rights has included other nationwide gyms and fitness centers.







A Michigan woman filed a lawsuit against Planet Fitness in 2015 when the national chain revoked her membership alleging she repeatedly complained about a transgender woman in the women's changing area; the gym has said its patrons are allowed to use the public facilities of their choice based on "sincere self-reported gender identity." A trial court judge dismissed the case in January, but the plaintiff appealed.











A YMCA in the Tacoma, Wash., area in April 2015 created a policy that allowed transgender patrons to use public facilities matching their gender identity but didn't communicate this to the general membership, and backlash ensued when the news spread unofficially, according to The News Tribune in Tacoma. The YMCA then revised its policy to allow transgender patrons this kind of access only at adult facilities but not at family facilities, which LGBT advocates decried as discriminatory. By the end of 2015, that YMCA returned to its original policy of allowing bathroom and locker room use based on gender identity.











The YMCA — the Young Men's Christian Association — was founded in London in 1844, and the organization's goal was "the spiritual and mental improvement of young men by any means in accordance with the Scriptures," according to the nonprofit's website. The YMCA is not affiliated with the YWCA. Each organization has its own rules and leadership.

What is an Ashram?

Since ancient times, the Sanskrit word ashram names the place where the Guru lives. The Ashram houses the Guru’s physical being, as well as the shakti, the divine energy of Grace, that flows through the Guru. If you have spent any time with Swami Nirmalananda, you have experienced this current of shakti. While it is present in everything that exists, it is stronger and more concentrated in a yogi who has dedicated herself to serve in this way. The deeper Swamiji takes her own practice, the stronger the shakti flows through her. The Ashram serves as a place to house it, to nurture it, and to “plant it” on the physical plane. As a visitor you will feel it, perhaps when you first enter, or after you’ve been there for a while, or even after you leave. Swamiji wants us to consider the Ashram our home, as well as hers.

What is it like to visit the Ashram?

If you are enrolled in a Svaroopa® Yoga & Meditation course in Pennsylvania, you will likely be invited for lunch at the Ashram. The house appears from the outside like any other large suburban home in the neighborhood. You’ll be greeted at the door with a traditional arati, a waving of a candle flame, and a dot of sacred ash on your forehead. These honor your inherent Divinity, which is the that which Swamiji bows to in herself and in her Guru.
Upon entering, you’ll remove your shoes and coat, and be invited to walk through the downstairs rooms, which are filled with photographs of our lineage and murtis (divine statues), all to invoke your profound and deep experience of your own Self. You’ll sit in the meditation room for a few minutes with Swamiji and participate in the lunchtime japa, mantra repetition, one of our three daily sessions that Ashram residents share with Swamiji.
Lunch is in the sunny dining area off the kitchen, and consists of a vegetarian meal, served by ashram chefs who follow Ayurvedic cooking guidelines. Swamiji eats with her guests, making sure everyone is well fed. After a delicious dessert, she presents you with a blessed gift of a rudraksha bead (sacred bead).

CHICAGO YMCA CHANGES GUIDELINES TO ALLOW BOYS TO USE GIRLS’ LOCKER ROOMS, & VICE VERSA

CHICAGO — A number of YMCA locations in the Chicago area have been instructed to follow new guidelines that permit boys who identify as girls to use the girls’ locker room, and vice versa.
The Chicago Tribune reports that a mother at one of the locations recently approached staff after she saw a teenage boy using the girls’ locker room, but employees later learned that the teen identified as transgender and therefore his presence was permitted.
“From [the mother’s] perspective, there was a man in the locker room,” Rae Ulrich, senior vice president of marketing for the YMCA of Metro Chicago, told the outlet. “But there wasn’t. There was a transgender individual in the locker room.”
The situation and others resulted in the organization crafting a letter outlining that members are free to use the facilities that correspond with their “gender identity.” The notation is also posted on the YMCA of Metro Chicago website.
“[T]he Y … supports every member having the opportunity to use the locker room and restroom they select based on their gender identity, or private facilities–as available–if that is their preference. Where not yet available, we are in the process of adding them,” the letter, signed by President Dick Malone, reads.
“We recognize our commitment in support of the rights of all individuals can cause some to feel uncomfortable and can raise concerns about safety. … Let me be clear: the expanded inclusion policy doesn’t give anyone a new opportunity to behave inappropriately,” it states. “Again, it’s our goal for all members to thrive at the Y, and this is why we will do our best to support each of you while maintaining an environment that reflects the inclusive values we share.”
The correspondence was sent to the YMCA’s 140,000 members at its more than 20 Chicagoland centers. The Chicago Tribune also notes that employees are expected to refer to members by their preferred name and pronoun. Staff members are receiving homosexual and transgender sensitivity training from local advocacy groups, including one at Lurie Children’s Hospital.
However, while some are applauding the move as one of inclusivity, others are expressing deep concern, especially considering that the YMCA, the Young Men’s Christian Association, was founded upon biblical values.
“It is appalling that a once-Christian organization like the YMCA has now become so morally bankrupt that it has adopted such a misguided policy,” Ed Vitagliano, executive vice president for the American Family Association, told reporters. “It is clear not only from the Bible but nature itself that there are only two genders: male and female. The secularist rush to discard the binary nature of humanity is proof that the lunatics are in charge of the asylum.”
The YMCA website outlines that it was founded in 1844 by London resident George Williams to be “a refuge of Bible study and prayer for young men seeking escape from the hazards of life on the streets.” Today, the YMCA’s mission is “[t]o put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.”
Like Chicago, other YMCA locations have also announced changes to their restroom and locker room use policies to accommodate “transgendered” members, such as those in the Seattle/Silverdale/Puyallup, Washington area.

Kaeley Triller Haver is a 33 year old mother of two young children. She is also a survivor of sexual trauma. Her abuse — at the hands of a man close to her family — began when she was still in diapers and lasted the first 10 years of her life, so she is aware of the need to protect women and girls from the types of men who would prey on them.
Last year, she found herself on the politically incorrect side of the issue of transgender access to bathrooms and locker rooms in Washington State. And what she found is that her feelings, her fears, her experiences — like those of so many women and girls — do not matter where this issue is concerned. Everyone is equal; some are just more equal than others. Before it was over, she was fired from her job for not going along with the agenda of the transgender lobby.
Kaeley began working at the YMCA as a locker room monitor when she was 15. Over the past 17 years, she had continued working for the organization while going to high school and then college and beyond. In her last position there — communications director — her job was to oversee all communications for nine branch locations covering 120,000 members. Then the YMCA decided to open up its locker rooms and showers on the basis of gender identity. Men would be allowed to use the women’s facilities and no one could stop them or even question them about it.
She told The New American that she could not go along with that policy and tried — unsuccessfully — to convince the organization of the dangers:
Before this even became a matter of law in Washington, I was working at the YMCA here as a communications director and my boss came to me one day and said, “We’re doing this new policy and it might be controversial and I need you to take this stuff home and go over it and start helping me with the talking points.” What she was talking about was transgender locker room access. And so, I pushed back and I got fired.
We asked Kaeley how she “pushed back” and she explained:
I said this is not something I can do in good conscience, and here’s why. And for the first time in my life — because it’s not something you talk about at work — I expressed my experience as a survivor of sexual trauma. My abuser liked to watch me in the shower and laugh, and so I was keenly aware of what happens in our locker rooms, and wanting to protect our members. And because of my past experiences, I was hyper-vigilant at the Y. I would regularly conduct sex offender screening — on my own time — to make sure that someone wasn’t getting through that shouldn’t. And every time I would run one of these screenings, I would catch somebody — in November I found three sex offenders who were actively using our YMCA facilities. One of them had a free shower pass, actually. I have sat with parents after their children have been harmed, so I know [how] predators work, so this policy was just not something I could get behind. And I told them all of this stuff and said, “This is why we can’t do this.”
One would expect the feelings, experiences, and reasonable observations of a woman who had survived the ordeal of having her most formative years marked by sexual abuse to be taken into account. But this is not how the YMCA responded, according to Kaeley. “My boss looked at me and told me, ‘You know Kaeley, any time I find myself feeling the way that you’re feeling right now, I convince myself that I am being closed-minded,’” she told The New American.
Ignoring her warnings, Kaeley recounted, the YMCA decided to instate the policy — without informing members of the change. “That’s when I really began to struggle,” she said, “because I realized that I have friends and family who use those locker rooms and showers and they could end up being confined with a naked male. So I ended up writing a blog post about the transgeneder bathroom issue and I got it published in The Federalist.” The blog post — which has seen nearly viral distribution — was not about the policy at the YMCA. It was about Kaeley’s own traumatic experiences as a child. But it did address the transgender bathroom issue. “I didn’t use the YMCA’s name, but I was fired a week later for inappropriate communication with members,” she told The New American. While no one at the YMCA mentioned the blog post directly, Kaeley said, the timing of her termination made the point clear.
What she did not realize at first was that she was caught up in a larger battle. The Human Rights Commission was planning to push through a rule that would essentially open all “public accommodations” across the state on the basis of gender identity. It didn’t take her long to put the pieces together once the new rule was announced. She told The New American:
I realized the reason the YMCA was doing this was because they had been clued into the fact that the Human Rights Commission here in Washington — which is a group of five unelected bureaucrats — was going to instate this state-wide mandate — basically a rule functioning as law for the entire state of Washington — and they did this on December 26, 2015 — they quietly enacted a new rule that would require all places with public accommodations in the entire state to open their bathrooms and locker rooms on the basis of gender identity. They didn’t tell anyone about this [ahead of time]. Five people decided for seven million.
With the implementation of the new “rule functioning as law” — formally known as Washington Administrative Code 16232 — Kaeley saw things quickly go from bad to worse. “It’s so bad here in Washington that it’s actually forbidden to ask any unwelcome questions about gender identity,” she said, adding, “So you can’t even ask for clarity or clarification. So any man who wants to walk into any bathroom anywhere doesn’t have to dress like a woman. He can say he has a right to be there. And you can’t ask him anything to clarify.”
While reeling from being fired, Kaeley did what she’s been doing all her life: She survived and decided to fight. She is now communications director for Just Want Privacy, an organization formed to combat the transgender bathroom issue in Washington. Just Want Privacy tried to fight the Human Rights Commission’s open bathroom policy legislatively, but in the short session, there was not enough time to gain the necessary traction. So, the initiative was launched to give people the chance to vote on this issue, rather than have it dictated to them by unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats. The campaign has been gathering signatures since late April and has about 150,000 of the needed 246,000 signatures to bring the issue to a vote. However, the deadline of July 8 is coming up quickly, so the campaigners have their work cut out for them. They have petitions available for pickup all across the state and are hopeful they will meet the goal.
They are fighting as if their lives depend on it because the stakes in this battle are high. Kaeley, who, recall, says her former employer considered her “closed-minded” for feeling the way any survivor of sex abuse would feel, also says the parallel between the messages of the transgender lobby and her former abuser is unsettling:
My abuser used to cry literal tears and say, “You don’t love me anymore” if I didn’t fill-in-the-blank — if I didn’t meet his demands. And this feels like the exact same message to me when they say, “If you don’t violate your personal boundaries and let me shower next to you at the gym, then you’re hateful — you’re not loving.” And that is abusive. That is the definition of a rape-culture. Why have people so readily accepted this narrative? It’s just nonsense. How can [feminists] say ‘My body, my choice’ [a mantra of the abortion lobby] — which I don’t subscribe to — if I can’t even choose who sees my body in the shower? So, basically, I have to get over it. How many women have they told to just get over it?
Because of her experience of having been sexually abused at such a young age, Kaeley says one of her chief goals in life is to protect her young daughter from ever experiencing anything like that. “It is incredibly important to me that my own five-year-old-daughter has a choice about when she sees a naked man,” she said, and then — skipping a beat — added, “I didn’t have a choice.”
But the Human Rights Commission — a misnomer if ever there was one — and the rest of the transgender lobby would take that choice away from Kaeley’s daughter. There is no doubt that policies such as this do indeed create, as Kaeley so aptly put it, a “rape-culture.” In the name of “equality,” women and children are being victimized.
And how many more victims will there have to be before enough is enough? The safety and peace of mind of women and children — especially those who daily live with the scars of sexual abuse — have to matter more than this ungodly agenda. More than the feelings of the poor souls who suffer from a mental disorder which causes them to be confused about their external plumbing. The one group is being used as an excuse to strip the rights away from the other group, all for the benefit of what Kaeley describes as “social engineering.”
It’s time to bring this madness to an end. And the Kaeley Triller Havers of the world are working diligently to do just that.

Yoga is from the Sankrit word Yug, meaning ‘union’ (with the Divine, your higher ‘SELF’). Yoga is supposedly a path for transcending the ordinary mind (who you think you are) in order to merge with your ‘higher SELF’ or ‘God SELF.’ Yoga means ‘to yoke’ — to yoke with Brahman (i.e., the ‘Infinite,’ the ‘Universal Spirit,’ the impersonal force that the Hindus call ‘God’) via the realization of an altered state of consciousness, thereby theoretically releasing oneself from the bondage of endless reincarnation. Yoga comes out of the Hindu Vedas. It can be traced back to Patanjali, who was a religious leader. Shiva, one of Hinduism’s three most powerful gods, was known as ‘The Destroyer’ — he’s called Yogi Swara or the ‘Lord of Yoga.’

Yoga is clearly a New Age concept that is deeply religious and pantheistic in its origin. It is widely practiced and supported by New Age proponents. The New Age movement denies the reality of sin and total depravity, and believes that man is generally good and is divine. They teach that there is a god within us, and we are to harness that and develop it through meditation and other metaphysical techniques. They teach that the only thing people need is enlightenment regarding their divinity. Sadly, even professing Christians have bought into this lie. Every yoga teacher is, in effect, a Hindu or Buddhist missionary, even though ‘he or she may wear a cross, insist that Jesus was a great Yogi, and protest that Yoga is not a religion, but science’. This is the most blatant of lies as we will see.

“OLWEUS was developed by Dr. Dan Olweus, a psychology professor from Norway, and based on his systematic research on bullying, which he has been carrying out since the early 1970s. After three teens died by suicide in Norway in what was thought to be a response to serious peer bullying. Dr. Olweus developed the first version of his program. For more about this program, keep reading.    
Dr. Olweus’s interests were never confined to Norwegian schools. His proposals for anti-bullying legislation to protect school children were enacted in Sweden and Norway by the mid-90s. His work with American colleagues to adapt Olweus Bullying Prevention Program to the United States also began in the mid 1990’s, and he worked mainly in conjunction with Dr. Susan P. Limber of Clemson University in South Carolina. 
The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is designed for students in grades 3-10, and its adaptation to high school can be discussed. It is a program of some duration, since it says it can be effective with younger students in as little as 8 months, and with older students may require several years. It is important to note that it is not  a program aimed at the bullies in the school or even just at the bullies and victims: it is a schoolwide program, that is implemented at the school level, the classroom level, through individual students, and in the community. 
What Is Bullying? 
The definition of bullying that Dr. Olweus uses, according to the FAQs on the site is: “A person is bullied when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the  part of one or more other persons, and he or she has difficulty defending himself or herself.”  The FAQs go on to give a list of forms of bullying including physical and verbal bullying, being threatened or forced to act, being excluded or gossiped about, having property taken or damaged, and racial, sexual, and cyber bullying. 
It is important to note that the Olweus program has a circumscribed definition of bullying. First, although bullying may often occur as a pattern of behavior, being forced to do something or having one’s lunch money stolen once is still a problem. It is not clear how one-time incidents fit into Dr. Olweus’s calculus. Second, this definition either excludes, ignores, or leaves to other programs some particularly troubling cases of bullying. By explicitly stating that “Bullying is a form of peer abuse” later in the FAQs, the program rules out consideration of both the bullying of teachers and school staff by students as well as the bullying of students by teachers and school staff. Perhaps they propose that some other term be applied in this situation, but if so, it is not clear from a reading of their FAQs. Third, some very damaging, but subtler forms of bullying are not mentioned, for example, mocking someone through imitating their mannerisms or style of dress or following someone. 
The National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) has a State School Healthy Policy Database, where you can find the legislation your state has enacted related to bullying, harassment, and hazing, as well as examine the situation in other states. This material is likely to provide your state’s definition of bullying. nasbe.org 
Cost of the OLWEUS Bullying Prevention Program 
The cost of the program consists of the cost of program materials and training, at minimum. 
Program materials include a survey for each student which is either $0.95/student or $34.50 for 30 students with scanning services or $28.50 without (in which case the data must be hand entered). The schoolwide guide is $89.95, a single teacher guide is $55.00, the school staff DVD training program is $175.00, and the book Bullying at School is $28.95. The curriculum for Grades 6-12 is $99.00. Resources for grades K-5 are $69.95 and for grades 6-8 are $59.95.  This is puzzling because the program runs from Grade 3-10, and while there are materials for kindergartners, there are none for students in grades 9 and 10. The program “Peaceful School Bus” is $119.00,and a “Complete No Bullying Program Curriculum” for K-8 is $799.00.
Costs of a mandatory two-day training by a certified Olweus trainer (or two) are capped at $4500. Personnel expected to attend are the principal or vice principal, a teacher from each grade level, a school counselor or psychologist, a representative of the school’s nonteaching staff, several parents who are not employed by the school district, a community representative who might have a stake in the program, and other school personnel who might have a particular contribution to make. This likely requires paying for substitutes for the school personnel. Other costs, such as a kick-off event or designating a coordinator for the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program could involve even more funds.”

The Students for Life of America, http://studentsforlife.org/, were abruptly told to leave the Austin, Texas YMCA where they had been permitted to shower at night while they were in Austin for their support of the new abortion bill, at least until pro-abortionists complained about them. Some of the complaints apparently came from some pro-abortion staff members of the YMCA.
The Austin YMCA issued a statement:

A story was issued by Fox News Radio today about a misunderstanding that occurred between YMCA of Austin staff and a group of students from the organization Students for Life.
In light of discussion surrounding the issue, the YMCA of Austin is seeking to clarify our position on the matter.
As a volunteer-led nonprofit organization, it is not our intention to inject ourselves into this issue, nor do we take a position on this issue.
We strive to create an atmosphere that is welcoming to all, where people of all backgrounds are comfortable.
That’s what we were striving to do in accommodating the Students for Life group who were in need of a place to shower.
Unfortunately, in this instance, it caused the political debate to come into the Y.
If any person or group enters our facilities and creates an atmosphere that is disruptive, we have an obligation to our members and program participants to ask that person or group to leave or to refuse them access.
There are appropriate places in which to conduct a political debate, and that place is down the street at the State Capitol, not at our YMCA.
We are working directly with Students for Life to find a solution that is acceptable to all parties.”

As the YMCA distances itself from its “Christian” roots in its striving to be culturally relevant, what we have now is a so-called non-profit organization catering to people of all faiths and/or no faith. It has been a catalyst for the spread of Hindu yoga and Buddhist mindfulness to adults and children within its facilities. It is a cash cow for paid administrators at headquarters and equally as much at the local level. The YMCA is clearly NOT led by volunteers, as shown below in their IRS Form 990.

The top officers of the YMCA are not listed on their national headquarters website http://www.ymca.net/organizational-profile, despite their alleged altruistic and open corporate image of community focus, betterment, and transparency. If the YMCA is open and transparent, why are these officers hiding their phone numbers and e-mail addresses from the public and instructing the customer service representatives to block all complaints and concerns from reaching them?
Neil Nicholl is the AMI 2012 Keynote Speaker in the YouTube video below, describing the benefits, opportunities and responsibilities of “non-profit service”, but not before he decries unnamed people with firm, fixed dogmatic beliefs (such as Bible believing pro-life Christians, for example). It would seem to be a charge leveled at those inflexible types who can’t get with the collectivist culture of non-profits such as the YMCA.

Neil Nicoll was hired as president and CEO of YMCA of the USA in May 2006 and is
the 13th person to lead the YMCA movement in the United States. He joined Y-USA
following 14 years as president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Seattle. He previously
was the president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Worcester (Mass.) for 12 years,
executive director of the Prince Georges County branch of the YMCA of Metropolitan
Washington, D.C., for six years and executive director the Dorchester branch of the
YMCA of Greater Boston for three years. Neil got his start in the YMCA movement in
1968 as a program director at the Howard County branch of the YMCA of Greater
Baltimore.
A nationally recognized YMCA leader, Neil was the first chair of the YMCA Activate
America Steering Committee. He served two terms on the Y-USA board (1988-92 and
2004-06) and was chair of the North American Urban Group from 2003-05. He also has
been a strong advocate for the YMCA National Diversity Initiative and the Abundant
Assets Alliance.
He chaired the US-Japan Liaison Committee from 1998-2005 and the Springfield College
YMCA Advisory Council in 1981 and ’82, and was a member of the Association of
Professional Directors Executive Committee from 1987-90.
During his tenure in Seattle, Neil chaired the YMCA of Washington Public Policy

IF YOUR LOCAL YMCA IS OFFERING YOGA
to adults and children (in or out of the Montessori school), you should confront them about it in a reasoned way and tell them you are opposed to such in a self-identified “Christian” organization, because yoga is a Hindu discipline. If they will not listen to you or they will not terminate these classes, be prepared to first stop attending these classes and/or cancelling your membership, encouraging others to boycott the YMCA. Enough is enough.

A lawsuit filed by a Virginia teacher who was fired for refusing to use a transgender student’s preferred pronouns was reinstated.

The student in question is a biological woman who identifies as a transgender man.

On Thursday, the state’s Supreme Court announced the reinstatement of the lawsuit.

After being fired in 2018, Peter Vlaming, a former French teacher at West Point High School, filed a lawsuit against the school board and its administrators. 

Before any evidence was considered in the case, a judge dismissed the lawsuit. However, the Supreme Court reversed that decision and declared that the lawsuit could go to trial.

Vlaming had used the student’s masculine name but refrained from using their preferred pronouns of “he” and “him,” according to his claims in the lawsuit.

Later, the student’s parents and the school informed him that he must use the student’s preferred male pronouns and that there would be problems if he ignored their request.

Because of his “sincerely held religious and philosophical” views that “each person’s sex is biologically fixed and cannot be changed,” Vlaming asserted that he was morally unable to use the student’s pronouns. Additionally, Vlaming claimed that using the student’s pronouns “would be a lie.”

Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative Christian legal advocacy group, filed the lawsuit on his behalf, alleging that the school had violated his constitutional rights to free speech and religious practice.

Vlaming, according to the school board, broke the anti-discrimination policy of the institution.

Two of Vlaming’s claims, namely that his right to freely exercise his religion was violated under the Virginia constitution and his claim of breach of contract against the school board, should go to trial, which the seven justices of the state Supreme Court agreed upon.

Justice D. Arthur Kelsy wrote in the majority opinion that “absent a truly compelling reason for doing so, no government committed to these principles can lawfully coerce its citizens into pledging verbal allegiance to ideological views that violate their sincerely held religious beliefs.”

However, the court disagreed on a few points regarding the lawsuit.

Along with two other justices, Justice Thomas Mann dissentingly stated that the majority’s ruling on Vlaming’s claim of freedom of religion was expansive and “establishes a sweeping super scrutiny standard with the potential to shield any person’s objection to practically any policy or law by claiming a religious justification for their failure to follow either.”

has “demonic roots” and warning Christians to avoid the popular activity.


Pastor John Lindell told the attendees

about 10,500, according to a 2016 report — that the positions in yoga were “created with demonic intent to open you up to demonic power because Hinduism is demonic.”

They are taking a stand against the sermon’s message, which they say is “ignorant” and divisive, in a time when unity is needed.
“Yoga transcends religion,” said Reggie Harris, who
also said five years of yoga has transformed his life. “Yoga brings
people together in a heart of unity and love. You’re teaching people to
hate something that may help them physically, emotionally, spiritually.”

Sermon: Yoga as ‘paranormal’

Lindell delivered a paranormal-themed sermon the
Sunday  before Halloween. Among other things, he warned congregants
about the spiritual dangers of fortune-telling, Wicca, a form of
paganism, and finally, yoga.

People might be shocked that the church was comparing yoga to the paranormal, Lindell acknowledged.
“That, to me, is an indication of how far our society
has drifted into a post-Christian culture. Earlier, it would have been a
given that yoga was inherently a form of eastern mysticism that
Christians should absolutely avoid, but that is no longer the case,” he
said during the sermon.
Yoga is everywhere now, he said, pointing to the local YMCA’s class schedule as an example.
First, he addressed yoga poses.
“They were designed, they were created with demonic
intent, to open you up to demonic power because Hinduism is demonic,”
Lindell said.
According to the government of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, yoga does not adhere to any particular religion or belief system.
Lindell said the sun salutation, a common sequence of positions in yoga, is meant to worship Surya, the Hindu sun god.
“To say the positions of yoga are no more than
exercise are tantamount to saying water baptism is just aqua aerobics,”
Lindell said.
Then, he talked about meditation.
During meditation, he said, people clear their minds.
Sometimes they chant a mantra, which can incorporate the names of Hindu
gods, Lindell said.
He said it’s “spiritually dangerous” for people to empty their minds.
“Yoga is diametrically opposed to Christianity,” he
said. “….Christians should stay away from yoga because of its demonic
roots.”
Lindell said he was coming from a place of concern for people’s spiritual well-being.
Stop doing yoga, he told his congregants, and they don’t have to be afraid.
“I can’t say the same if you keep doing it,” Lindell said.

Yogis respond

Attendance was low at Heather Worthy’s yoga class at a Republic, Missouri, gym a week after the sermon.
Worthy said many people at the gym are active members
of James River Church, and she speculated that Lindell’s sermon had an
impact on them.
“It hurt,” she said. “It could have been a coincidence, but it’s interesting.”
She called the sermon “quite ludicrous.”
Stephanie Wubbena owns Live Pure Yoga in Springfield, Missouri, and runs Goats and Yoga out of her Rogersville farm made a rebuttal video to the James River Sermon about yoga and posted it to YouTube on Nov. 1. It’s received more than 530 views as of Monday.

In an interview, Wubbena said  her main concern is that the sermon is “going after small businesses.”
“This is our sole source of livelihood,” Wubbena said. “One yoga studio lost over 10 members the Monday after the sermon.”
Wubbena agreed with Lindell on one aspect: that yoga has “pagan origins,” she said.
But so do Christmas and Easter traditions, Wubbena said.
“The blatant hypocrisy was just so overwhelming,” she said.
Harris, who has been practicing yoga for five
years, said yoga has helped with more than just physical ailments.
Emotionally, he said he’s less angry and less insecure.
For the 36-year-old, who grew up “old school Baptist,” yoga has a deep spiritual side as well.
“I know my relationship with the Lord and my relationship with him has gotten deeper through yoga,” Harris said.
Harris said he felt “disappointed, hurt and angry” when he listened to Lindell’s sermon online.

Amanda Davis said the pastor’s message is “hate speech,” and it’s frightening after the shooting at a Florida yoga studio.
“It’s really… scary,” said Davis, who is a yoga
instructor. “I don’t really know if somebody is going to walk into the
Y, and shoot us up, or one of the other studios we teach.”
Toward the end of his sermon, Lindell said he hopes people consider his words.
“I don’t do it to make anybody mad. If I made you mad,
that’s unfortunate,” he said. “But I have a responsibility before God
as the shepherd of souls to say I told you the truth.”

network, and says its mission is to “promote the construction of genuine
European citizenship” by targeting young people.

The animated short opens on a migrant man, his hijab-clad wife, and
their two young sons approaching the gateway of a forbidding wall, with
the words FRONTEX emblazoned above it.

An EU Border Agency (Frontex) official is shown shooing away a young
man seeking work and a people-smuggler. However, he waves through the
migrant family without further scrutiny after the father claims to be
fleeing war – accompanied by a fluttering fairy godmother representing
the EU.

The fairy, wearing red-framed, hipster-style glasses and a white
t-shirt with the EU flag branded across the chest, asks the migrants to
follow her into a tent, where she asks a man of Arabic appearance to
give them “passage to Europe” on a magic carpet.

Following a celestial compass in the night sky, the group first land
in Eastern Europe – where they are greeted by a crowd of racist white
men shouting that they do not want asylum seekers.

“But it’s their right!” the EU fairy retorts angrily, but to no avail.

The migrants are instead brought to an unnamed country in Western
Europe, where they receive a warm welcome and express gratitude to their
hosts.

Now the Napalm bomb is falling on schools and kids all across the country with the latest directive from Obama. As usual, hiding behind the curtain of minority rights, making it sound like a heart felt desperate cause, Obama has ordered all public schools to allow anyone of any sex, transgender or whatever they think of themselves, to waltz into any boys or girls bathroom. The Transgender and mystery sex person also gets to pick whatever shower they want - boys or girls. Forget the rights, safety and comfort zone of 99% of the other kids in the school. They don’t matter – just the minority manipulated needs of the ‘mystery sex’ student.



Obama means business with this directive. He has threatened all kinds of lawsuits and to pull Government funds if the schools don’t submit and obey.



Parents, I know we all want to be compassionate and open to people of difference. That is most cool, but I know my 7th grade boy would feel more than a tinge horrified taking a shower after P.E. class next to a student with breasts hanging out and mail private parts.



Thankfully for my boy, I yanked him out of public school at the beginning of this year due to extreme bullying he was experiencing. He was also having related physical problems with Asthma. I can just imagine throwing him back into the public school system now where he can be abused some more by being forced to display himself naked in a shower room with a transgender student staring at him. I think not.



Obama went way too far starting the first year of his UN Constitutional and anti God rule as President, but now, he is directly assaulting the safety of all our children in the public school system. Just when a kid thought there might be a moment to himself in the bathroom, he is wrong. Now, everyone else gets to be in there also. Our girls will just have to face it that privacy in the shower room will be no more. They must find a way to relax with the transgender student showering next to them talking about Mr. Frank in science class.







How many of you ladies would purposely walk into a men’s shower after a work out at a YMCA, undress and stand along side the boys soaping up and spraying down?



No one No one No one and No one.



We have watched Obama turn our fine military into a sized down, compromised, LGTB sexual playground. There seem to be legal and military rights for all the sexual wonder bread crowd and complete annihilation of Christian and speech rights. Chaplains praying in Jesus name now get written up, threatened or fired. Soldiers are not to have any real or personal beliefs that marriage is to be between a man and a woman. More than one solder has been demoted or fired daring to have a conservative or Christian opinion.



What now folks



Obama has just opened a Pandora’s box. I predict a tsunami of lawsuits coming from Obama to schools. School leaders and parents all across the country no doubt will start forming class action lawsuits back at the Obama administration. I predict thousands of kids will be yanked from public schools by their horrified parents because of what Obama has shamefully done now.



All parents must fight to protect their kids from pedophiles and other perverts on line, among strangers and friends at school. Now however, Obama has brought this very real danger right into our living rooms - no bathrooms of our schools and homes.



It is time to focus our national horror and rage into countless lawsuits against Obama and his administration. Demand your school leaders rise up and protect our children by not allowing this to happen to our schools. Forget blackmail and funding issues. It is time to trust God, protect the rights and safety of our children and stand up and battle.



It is really very simple in businesses and schools. If officials everywhere are freaking out now over transgender rights, then they should do this. Direct a transgender or sexual mystery person to a private bathroom in a school, not the main one. The same idea should be implemented at department stores. Send them to a private bathroom somewhere in the store, not the public bathroom or public shower.





Obama has no interest in honoring and protecting the rights and safety of our kids - only the illegal alien, Muslim children and sexually unique variety. All others can disappear and shut up.

Don’t be fooled: Politician Obama couldn’t care less about individual rights

The Obama administration is ordering every public school district in the country to allow transgender students to use the bathrooms that match their “gender identity.”
The White House is forcing compliance by both threatening to cut funding to non-compliant schools and exposing them to potential lawsuits.
President Obama told the Justice Dept. and the Education Dept. to create standards for the schools to abide to, which isn’t the first time he has pressured local governments to capitulate to federal standards.
He used a similar strategy last year to “federalize” local police departments across the country by requiring them to adhere to stricter requirements when they receive federal funding.
This latest takeover, however, will fuel mass backlash given past protests in the past.
For example, back in Sept. students at Hillsboro, Mo., H.S. walked out in protest to keep a transsexual student – and very recently a former gay male – from using the girls’ locker room.
One parent, Tammy Sorden, said it wasn’t fair the student, Lila, was getting special treatment “while the girls just have to suck it up.”
“The girls have rights, and they shouldn’t have to share a bathroom with a [biological] boy,” she said.
The Obama administration claims it’s defending “transgendered rights,” but don’t be fooled: as a politician, Obama couldn’t care less about individual rights.
Remember, the state – the federal government – can only expand at the expense of individual rights, and although Obama will advocate the rights for certain groups at the expense of others, in this case transgendered students, he’s simply hijacking the “transgendered rights” movement to destroy the traditional, nuclear-family model and encourage individuals to be more supportive – and dependent – on the ever-expanding state.
And this has already happened with feminists who instead of getting married, they use the state – or their corporate job – as a surrogate husband.

A top Texas official said the state will not yield to “blackmail” from President Barack Obama, after the administration on Friday released a directive notifying public school officials that transgender students must be allowed to use the restroom and locker room facilities corresponding with their gender identity.
“I believe it is the biggest issue facing families and schools in America since prayer was taken out of public schools,” Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick told reporters.
Obama’s policy “will divide the country not along political lines but along family values and school districts,” Patrick said.
“He says he’s going to withhold funding if schools do not follow the policy,” Patrick said, referring to possible consequences if they do not adhere to the recommendations. “Well, in Texas, he can keep his 30 pieces of silver. We will not yield to blackmail from the president of the United States.”
Noting that Texas public schools get $10 billion of federal funds over a two-year budget, Patrick said the majority of that is for free breakfast and lunch programs.
“So Barack Obama, if schools don’t knuckle down to force girls showering with boys and force 8-year-old girls to have to endure boys coming into their bathroom, he’s taking money from the poorest of the poor,” Patrick said. “The president of the United States will be ending the free breakfast and free lunch program. That’s what he’s saying.”
Patrick said he received a “standing ovation” Friday before “a number of caucuses” in declaring that the state “will not be blackmailed by the president’s 30 pieces of silver.”
“We will not sell out our children to the federal government. And the people of Texas and the Legislature will find a way to find as much of that money as we can if we are forced to. There is no compromise on this issue,” he said. “This is a modern-day, come-and-take-it issue, and the president of the United States, like the superintendent of Fort Worth, is not coming and taking our children.”
Patrick had previously said that Fort Worth Independent School District Superintendent Kent Scribner should resign for suggesting similar rules.
The issue is not partisan, Patrick insisted.
“The president is going to find Democrat families will push back against this, Republican families, black families, white families, brown families. This goes against the values of so many people. It has nothing to do with anything being against a transgender child or a gay child. Nothing to do. We address harassment and bullying in the country and in the state,” he said. “This has everything to do with keeping the federal government out of local issues. And by the way, I hope some of you go back and interview some of the people who are shouting me down Tuesday when they said Dan Patrick should stay out of local issues. First of all, I knew it wasn’t a local issue but I have a feeling that some of those same hypocrites today will be cheering the president.”

Texas, Arkansas to Defy Obama Admin Demand to Allow Boys in Girls’ Restrooms, Locker Rooms

Officials in Texas and Arkansas are vowing to defy directives issued to public schools nationwide requiring the allowance of male students to use female restrooms and locker rooms and vice versa if they identify as the opposite gender.



“We will not be blackmailed by the president’s 30 pieces of silver,” Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick staunchly told reporters.



As previously reported, the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Education released on Friday guidelines requiring schools to accommodate students’ “gender identity” under threat of losing their federal funding.







“A school may provide separate facilities on the basis of sex, but must allow transgender students access to such facilities consistent with their gender identity,” the document reads. “A school may not require transgender students to use facilities inconsistent with their gender identity or to use individual-user facilities when other students are not required to do so.”



“Under Title IX, there is no medical diagnosis or treatment requirement that students must meet as a prerequisite to being treated consistent with their gender identity,” the Obama administration further outlines, stating that students and/or their parents must simply “assert a gender identity that differs from previous representations or records” to administrators in order to be granted access to their preferred facility.



But Patrick quickly outlined that the state of Texas would not comply, even if it means losing federal funding. He said that he would direct school superintendents to disregard the departmental document.



“This is truly a modern-day come and take it moment,” he stated during a press conference. “Texans will not stand for this.”



“This will create chaos in America and in its schools, and it’s now going to be one of the key issues in the presidential election,” Patrick stated. “This will be the end of public education if this prevails. People will pull their kids out, homeschooling will explode, private schools will increase.”



Superintendent Rodney Cavness of the Port Neches-Groves School District told 12News, “That letter is going straight to the paper shredder. I have 5 daughters myself and I have 2,500 girls in my protection. Their moms and dads expect me to protect them. And that is what I am going to do.”



Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson said that his state likewise would ignore the guidelines.



“The recent letter from the federal government providing guidance to Arkansas schools on gender identification is offensive, intrusive and totally lacking in common sense,” he said in a press release. “As governor, I recommend that local school districts disregard the latest attempt at social engineering by the federal government and continue to use common sense to ensure a safe and healthy environment in Arkansas schools.”



Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge expressed her support of Hutchinson’s statement.



“Threatening local districts with a loss of funding unless they comply with this non-binding ‘guidance’ is potentially disruptive to the entire education process and lacks all common sense. These bullying and blackmail tactics are unlawful and unconscionable,” she said.



“I stand with Governor Hutchinson in urging local districts to disregard this latest attempt from the administration to force a social agenda on the states,” Rutledge outlined. “I will also work with my colleagues across the country to determine if legal action against this directive is necessary in order to keep our students safe.”



Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin also decried the administration’s actions, but did not indicate whether he will instruct districts in the state to defy the directives.

CHICAGO — An eight-year-old girl was recently choked unconscious by an adult male who approached her in the women’s restroom of of a Chicago restaurant as city officials continue their push for restroom accommodations according to gender identity.



According to reports, the incident occurred last Saturday at Jason’s Deli in the South Loop of the city. The girl and her mother both used the restroom, which has separated stalls.



Reese Hartstirn, 33, is accused of following the women into the restroom and then choking the little girl until she passed out. As the child’s mother heard her daughter scream, she quickly moved to rescue the girl as Hartstirn was carrying her into a stall, but he pushed the woman out of the way.







Others in the restaurant held the man until police arrived. Hartstirn is charged with aggravated kidnapping of a child, aggravated battery of a child and battery causing bodily harm. He is also facing a charge of aggravated assault of a peace officer after he swung at an officer in being booked.



Hartstirn is being held in the Cook County jail without bail and will appear in court on Monday.



The girl was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital for treatment. Her present condition is unknown.



“This is at a restaurant,” customer Crystal Anderson told WLS-TV. “You want your kid to be able to go to a bathroom in a restaurant and feel safe and not be scared … and not worry about someone trying to abduct your kid.”



Some have expressed concern about the incident in light of the national push to permit males who identify as females in women’s restrooms as they state that such allowances increase the chances for men who aren’t “transgender” to enter without question.



Earlier this month, even before the Obama administration issued directives stating that schools must accommodate students’ “internal sense of gender,” the Chicago school district announced that it would allow male students who identify as female and vice versa to use the restroom and locker room that correlates with their “gender identity.”



“Students shall have access to the restrooms and locker rooms that correspond with their gender identity consistently asserted at school,” it wrote. “Supports and accommodations should also be provided to gender non-binary students and students questioning their gender identity, regardless of whether the student is consistently asserting at school.”



Gender non-binary refers to students who do not believe they fit into the category of either male or female, and blend both the masculine and feminine in their appearance. In such cases, students are allowed to use the restroom and locker room of their preference.



The Chicago Commission on Human Relations also outlines that it may be a violation of the city’s human rights ordinance “[f]or a business to deny a customer access to a restroom or similar private facility designated for the gender shown on the person’s official identification—such as a driver’s license, state identification card or passport.”



Violators may be fined up to $500 and may be subject to damages and attorney’s fees.

As usual, hiding behind the curtain of minority rights, making it sound like a heart felt desperate cause, Obama has ordered all public schools to allow anyone of any sex, transgender or whatever they think of themselves, to waltz into any boys or girls bathroom. The Transgender and mystery sex person also gets to pick whatever shower they want - boys or girls. Forget the rights, safety and comfort zone of 99% of the other kids in the school. They don’t matter – just the minority manipulated needs of the ‘mystery sex’ student.



Obama means business with this directive. He has threatened all kinds of lawsuits and to pull Government funds if the schools don’t submit and obey.



Parents, I know we all want to be compassionate and open to people of difference. That is most cool, but I know my 7th grade boy would feel more than a tinge horrified taking a shower after P.E. class next to a student with breasts hanging out and mail private parts.



Thankfully for my boy, I yanked him out of public school at the beginning of this year due to extreme bullying he was experiencing. He was also having related physical problems with Asthma. I can just imagine throwing him back into the public school system now where he can be abused some more by being forced to display himself naked in a shower room with a transgender student staring at him. I think not.



Obama went way too far starting the first year of his UN Constitutional and anti God rule as President, but now, he is directly assaulting the safety of all our children in the public school system. Just when a kid thought there might be a moment to himself in the bathroom, he is wrong. Now, everyone else gets to be in there also. Our girls will just have to face it that privacy in the shower room will be no more. They must find a way to relax with the transgender student showering next to them talking about Mr. Frank in science class.







How many of you ladies would purposely walk into a men’s shower after a work out at a YMCA, undress and stand along side the boys soaping up and spraying down?



No one No one No one and No one.



We have watched Obama turn our fine military into a sized down, compromised, LGTB sexual playground. There seem to be legal and military rights for all the sexual wonder bread crowd and complete annihilation of Christian and speech rights. Chaplains praying in Jesus name now get written up, threatened or fired. Soldiers are not to have any real or personal beliefs that marriage is to be between a man and a woman. More than one solder has been demoted or fired daring to have a conservative or Christian opinion.



What now folks



Obama has just opened a Pandora’s box. I predict a tsunami of lawsuits coming from Obama to schools. School leaders and parents all across the country no doubt will start forming class action lawsuits back at the Obama administration. I predict thousands of kids will be yanked from public schools by their horrified parents because of what Obama has shamefully done now.



All parents must fight to protect their kids from pedophiles and other perverts on line, among strangers and friends at school. Now however, Obama has brought this very real danger right into our living rooms - no bathrooms of our schools and homes.



It is time to focus our national horror and rage into countless lawsuits against Obama and his administration. Demand your school leaders rise up and protect our children by not allowing this to happen to our schools. Forget blackmail and funding issues. It is time to trust God, protect the rights and safety of our children and stand up and battle.



It is really very simple in businesses and schools. If officials everywhere are freaking out now over transgender rights, then they should do this. Direct a transgender or sexual mystery person to a private bathroom in a school, not the main one. The same idea should be implemented at department stores. Send them to a private bathroom somewhere in the store, not the public bathroom or public shower.





Obama has no interest in honoring and protecting the rights and safety of our kids - only the illegal alien, Muslim children and sexually unique variety. All others can disappear and shut up.



It is time yet again for our nation to stand in every way possible against Obama and this UN Constitutional, un Christian, un fair, immoral and stupid ruling demanding Transgender rights in any bathroom and any shower.

In an intriguing recent lecture, scholar of Western Buddhism Jeff Wilson makes the claim that mindfulness is, in fact, Buddhism’s largest single impact on North America. The evidence is more than compelling: from books by Congressman Tim Ryan (A Mindful Nation) and Google’s “Jolly Good Fellow” Chade-Meng Tan (Search Inside Yourself) – shown meeting President Obama – to news reports in nearly every major media outlet and new movements to get mindfulness practice into schools, medicine, police stations, and the military.



Historically, Wilson points out, “mindfulness” comes from the Pali term sati, which can certainly mean mindfulness, awareness, etc, but also means to remember (a connotation of the English term that has largely dropped out of its contemporary “present focused” usage). For instance,  a common practice in Buddhism is “mindfulness of the Buddha” wherein one calls to mind a memory of the Buddha and/or his qualities in meditation. And perhaps most importantly, in the Buddhist context, mindfulness is part of the path to awakening, of overcoming the cycle of suffering we are in as ignorant sentient beings. This, Wilson states, is in nice contrast to the “American approach” where Mindfulness = enhancement of life’s joys.



So instead of undertaking mindfulness practice along with a lifestyle that distances one from the activities that perpetuate suffering, an American mindfulness practitioner keeps doing those things, but simply enjoys them more.



Wilson goes on to give a great example of an earlier way that Buddhism adapted itself to a new (for it) society: Japan. Buddhism, as he notes, and researchers know well, has been and still is ever-changing within certain constraints. This is why many statements that begin, “Traditional Buddhism is…” are false or at best misleading. Too often Western practitioners have either an idealized/romanticized or demonized version of some Asian society and the Buddhism practiced there. They then insist that today’s Buddhism is either better than that or fails to live up to it in whatever ways reflect their personal preferences or hobby-horse.



Seeing Buddhism as this flowing stream, we can ask better questions about it. Rather than asking if this or that is true or fake (which may be fun for riling up forces on both sides, generally different factions of practicing Buddhists), we can ask questions like “why is this change occurring?” or “How does this new stream provide benefit in the new society?”



Wilson suggests that the Mindfulness focused form of Buddhism entering into North America emphasizes Mindfulness, Suffering, and Compassion while minimizing previous important teachings such as No-self, Impermanence and Nirvana. And this is just part of the story, the part where Mindfulness is claimed to be a facet of Buddhism. On the other hand, Wilson quotes Jon Kabat-Zinn as writing that:





Mindfulness, the heart of Buddhist meditation, is at the core of being able to live life as if it really matters. It has nothing to do with Buddhism. It has to do with freedom. Mindfulness is so powerful that the fact that it comes out of Buddhism is irrelevant.





With this accepted, mindfulness can be placed in any of a variety of frameworks, from Kabat-Zinn’s medical/therapeutic framework to a more pleasure-oriented and individualistic framework typical of much of American culture. Wilson brilliantly demonstrates this with slide after slide of mindful eating, mindful sex, mindful work, and mindful parenting books, asking the audience if there is anything more American than obsessing over our eating, sex lives, work, and parenting.



Wilson follows with an equally brilliant breakdown of the marketing angle behind Mindful Magazine and the many mindfulness products sold there, focusing on one by a company called BUDHAGIRL: MINDFUL GLAMOUR (that starts at around 1-hour in and I highly recommend it):












In summary, Wilson describes mindfulness as:


    

  • The most popular aspect of Buddhism in America
    • 

  • Practically oriented, focused on worldly benefits (not transcendence or liberation)
    • 

  • Focusing on Middle class concerns, affirming the world, body, work, health, and certain desires
    • 

  • Ever-more disconnected from Buddhism’s past, obscuring certain parts or cutting off historical ties completely
    • 

  • Commodified into a product in itself or as an add-on benefit to set one product apart from otherwise identical competitors
    • 




This is all an amazing amount of food for thought. I think it is certainly true and perceptive to say that mindfulness is the biggest thing Buddhism has brought to N. America and I know that Buddhists are grappling with this (what about ethics? what about wisdom? – the other two parts of the basic 3-fold path). And it’s also important to point out that mindfulness is being used on this spectrum, ranging from very overtly Buddhist-connected to the “Mindful Glamour” label being used to sell jewelry and mindful sex books.



Oh, and there’s an excellent question/point brought up by Jon Kabat-Zinn himself at the end of the talk, don’t miss that.

“Softening Up” For Occult Revival—Hermetic Magic & Hegel’s Dialectic Process



Why would our country, so richly blessed by God, embrace the occult? What caused this drastic change in values? How could it have happened so seemingly fast?!



Actually, the entire Western world had already been “softened up” by the 1960s when the rising rebellion against God erupted into public view. The century-old pursuit of social solidarity based on Georg Hegel’s occult philosophy and consensus process had been an effective tool for change.



Hegel’s 19th century pattern for “group thinking” denied God’s absolute truths and trained people to adapt to “continual change” and group consensus. By the year 2000, it had been embraced by schools, corporations, community organizations, mainline churches, and political structures throughout America. Through the global media, people around the world have caught Hegel’s vision of spiritual synthesis—an enticing blend of spiritual illusions and practices that appeal to our capricious human nature.



Hegel studied alchemy, Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism), and theosophy, which were all influenced by the heretical teachings of Gnosticism. He “read widely on Mesmerism, psychic phenomena, dowsing, precognition, and sorcery. He publicly associated himself with known occultists . . . and aligned himself, informally, with ‘Hermetic’ societies such as the Freemasons and the Rosicrucians” and embraced their symbolic systems of sacred circles, mystical triangles and astrological signs.1



Considering Hegel’s occult connections, it’s not surprising that his teachings would undermine biblical faith and all opposing facts. Nor is it strange that the postmodern (or some now say pseudo-modern) generation has been, by and large, inoculated and indoctrinated against genuine Christianity. After all, Hegel’s revolutionary dialectic process was the center-piece and hallmark of Soviet brainwashing. It effectively purged God’s unchanging truths and filled the vacuum with evolving “truths” and enticing dreams.



While Communist leaders embraced Hegel’s process, they ignored his occult beliefs. In contrast, the Western world began to restore those pagan roots long before revolutionary baby-boomers began proclaiming and shouting out their demands for sensual freedom and earth-centered spirituality. In other words, the ’60s didn’t initiate this radical change; the turmoil of the ’60s was the result of the psycho-social program of “re-learning” which had begun to transform America decades earlier.



As the old moral and spiritual boundaries were torn down, the mainstream media preached tolerance and acceptance of all kinds of forbidden thrills. Before long, occult secrets emerged from their centuries-old closets and claimed their place in mainstream entertainment.



We who trust God need to recognize our enemy, resist his tempting strategies, and know the truths that counter these deadly deceptions. The very safety of our children depends on it.



Yoga in Schools



There’s no arguing it, children in public schools are learning Yoga. According to Yoga instructor, Mark Blanchard, of Progressive Power Yoga, he taught children at Colfax Elementary School in California. On his blog, he wrote: “I will be introducing Yoga to all of the kids at the school as I donate a full Yoga program.”2 Blanchard has been featured in many magazines such as Family Circle and Seventeen and has trained many actors and actresses (like Jennifer Lopez and Drew Barrymore).3 Blanchard plans to “bring Progressive Power Yoga to as many places as [he] can around the states (as well as the globe).”4



Part of Blanchard’s plans include working with Mini Yogis Yoga for Kids. On the Mini Yogis website, they list not only Blanchard’s company but many other organizations as well, many of which are schools like Happy Land Preschool in Culver City and St. Monica’s Elementary School in Santa Monica 5 (both in California).



Yoga for kids is on the rise, and if your child attends public school, you may want to check to see if teachers there are teaching him or her Yoga. A program called YogaEd provides Yoga classes under the heading of “health/wellness” programs for schools. These programs take place in several states including California, Colorado, New York, Washington and Washington, D.C.6



In an article titled “Yoga Causes Controversy in Public Schools,” veteran apologist Dave Hunt is referenced and quoted:





Dave Hunt, who has traveled to India to study yoga’s roots and interview gurus, called the practice “a vital part of the largest missionary program in the world” for Hinduism. The Bend, [Oregon] author of Yoga and the Body of Christ: What Position Should Christians Hold? said that, like other religions, the practice has no place in public schools.



“It’s pretty simple: Yoga is a religious practice in Hinduism. It’s the way to reach enlightenment. To bring it to the west and bill it as a scientific practice for fitness is dishonest,” said Hunt.7





Parents whose children are in Christian schools may need to be concerned too. More and more churches and Christian organizations are opening their doors to the practice of Yoga. And the biggest Christian publisher, Thomas Nelson, published a book titled Yoga for Christians in 2006. It’s just a matter of time before kids in Christian schools will be learning Yoga and the “art” of meditation.



It is tragic to know that countless public school children are being taught practices that are rooted in Eastern mysticism and will learn how to say “Namaste” (the god in me greets the god in you) before they learn they can have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ without going into altered states of consciousness through meditation. And it is equally tragic that many Christians will not even be able to help them because they are learning similar practices through their own “Spiritual Formation” (i.e, contemplative spirituality) programs in their churches.



Meditation in the Classroom



An article in The Capitol Times titled “Kid Contemplatives: UW Neuroscientist’s Project Aims to Give Middle-Schoolers Tools of ‘Mindfulness’ and Meditation” tells about a pilot project done with middle school students that studied the effects of “contemplation in the classroom.”8 The article states:





Middle school students are being targeted because early adolescence is a time of heightened vulnerability due to body and brain changes. . . .



Centering prayer, meditation, breath work, chanting, sitting in silence, extended concentration on an object and focusing on positive thoughts and images are examples of contemplative exercises that can be taught.9





Neuroscientist Richard Davidson, who was the chair for the project, wants to use his research in meditative practices by studying the brains of Buddhist monks, in the classroom. Davidson, named by Time magazine as one of the world’s 100 most influential people in 2006, and others like him are making inroads into meditation becoming the norm in schoolroom settings.



In The Capitol Times article, contemplative activist and Catholic priest Thomas Keating is quoted as saying that meditation in the classroom is “not a religious issue” and that “sitting in silence for twenty minutes, twice a day, ‘gradually introduces us to our deeper self.’”10 But the article contradicts Keating’s view that meditation is not religious:





Like Buddhist meditation, centering prayer for Christians is an age-old religious practice that has experienced a revival in contemporary times.11





And as this article reveals, children are being targeted with meditation:





“Most people without a special (contemplative) practice tend to be pushed around by external events,” Keating contends. In classrooms, “the younger the child, the easier it is” to teach contemplation because young participants typically aren’t impeded by as much emotional baggage.12





As one researcher of the New Age explains:





The field of education presents an ideal setting for transformation. In virtually every area of education and instruction, from kindergarten to universities, from weekend workshops to family counseling sessions, the Ancient Wisdom is being taught either up front or covertly. This is largely happening because teachers, principals, and other administrators in particular have become involved in metaphysics.13





While not every public school has introduced meditation in their classrooms yet, more and more schools are implementing Yoga and other forms of Eastern-style meditation practices into students’ lives.

With its weekly yoga class right on campus, in fact right in Munro Parlor, named after the first dean of the college, Eastern Nazarene College continues to commit serious error in identifying itself as a “Christian” school.  I have written much in the past about my alma mater and its embrace of false teachers, its support of professors who promote evolution and open theism, its compromise with homosexual activism, and its ecumenicalism. The school is yet again reaching out into the world and bringing in not only what is a worldly practice, but a practice that teaches pagan spirituality, delves into dangerous use of mysticism, and leaves a Christian open to spiritual deception.  Instead of following the biblical command to “be not conformed to the world”, the school continues to reject almost every sound biblical principle taught in Scripture.













The poster advertising the class shows the silhouette of a young female in the familiar Lotus pose used by those who practice Eastern meditation.  It is a very common pose, and it also has a spiritual meaning, as does all other yoga poses.  It is a frequently used pose for meditation and prayanama (breathing exercises).  Breath is believed to be the purifying power in our bodies, and the objective of deep, slow breathing is meant to purify and energize our bodies, according to yoga tradition.  But contrary to the arguments of many who have “Christianized” yoga, you cannot separate the physical from the spiritual aspects of this practice.  It is pagan eastern mysticism, and its goal is not simply physical exercise, but to bring the yoga practitioner to the point of a deep spiritual experience and connection.  But that kind of connection is not with the God of the Bible. The word yoga means “union.”  The goal is eventually to unite yourself with the infinite Brahman, which is the Hindu concept of God.  That concept is expressed as the belief in “pantheism”, that everything is God.  Because everything is God, therefore there is no difference between man and God.  The origins of yoga are clearly anti-Christian, and its emphasis is on teaching a person to focus on one’s self rather than focusing on God.







So one of the goals of yoga is to teach you spirituality, or help you find your spirituality.  It teaches that there is a divine light within each of us.  All of the yoga postures represent a specific spiritual meaning, and although I will not go into details of these postures, you can research for yourself and find out that yoga is far more than physical exercise, and why it is to be avoided by all Christians.







​Several years ago my wife and I met with the president of ENC, Dr. Corlis McGee, as well as the school chaplain and the provost.  Although we had a cordial conversation with them, we were miles apart in our beliefs.  It is certainly no surprise to me that yoga is now allowed on the campus.  We had gone there to voice our objections to the scheduling of Tony Campolo to speak to the students at chapel services.  Dr. Campolo is an advocate of contemplative mysticism, and he confirmed our concerns when he spoke the next month, unashamedly promoting mantra prayers (centering prayer) and occultic Celtic spirituality.  As I looked around and noticed several pastors in attendance, I wondered whether any of them had any idea of the harm this man was potentially causing to students listening to him.







Lack of discernment in the Christian colleges today is no longer a rare thing, but a common occurrence.  There is not one Nazarene Christian college, and very few other Christian colleges, that has not been affected in one way or another by these false teachings and the ecumenical philosophy that is plaguing these schools.  It would be much better for a Christian student to attend a secular college, than to attend and support a Christian school today in name only.







While proclaiming faithfulness to the truth of Scripture, schools such as Eastern Nazarene College have become nothing but havens for compromise.  ENC proudly proclaims the statement, attributed to Bertha Munro herself, that “There is no conflict between the best in education and the best in our Christian faith.”  And in doing so, they have no problem allowing evolutionists to confuse the minds of their students, and allowing other doctrines of demons to be taught to the students.  Instead of strengthening the students’ faith with the truth of Scripture, they promote the liberal mentality of “let them come to their own conclusions” by exposing them to all sorts of false teaching.







We are told by Paul in Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.”  Yoga is a worldly practice that does not reflect the mind of God.  Practicing Eastern pagan meditation is not part of God’s “perfect will.”  The practicing of yoga will leave the Christian wide open to deception from satan. (Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8)  Instead, all that we do, we should do for the glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31).







In a post from last October on his blog, Pastor Douglas Graham of Cedarville Church of the Nazarene states:







 “Yoga is based on idolatry and worldly thinking. It often involves a Hindu chant and emptying the mind. As Christians we are to fill our mind with the Word of God.”



“As a Christian I’d rather not join with a false god (Brahma) or ideas steeped in idolatry in order to be whole. Even Hindus know that yoga is not a practice of Christianity. I’d rather place my faith in the Gospel of Christ than to put my body in weird positions. I’m not saying someone isn’t a Christian if they do yoga. I’m using Biblical discernment and I hope Christians would do the same.”











If yoga is truly okay for Christians, then why not also use Ouija boards, Tarot cards, Astrology signs and symbols?  Like yoga, they all have a philosophy and idea behind them that makes it a problem for Christians to justify.  Yet somehow yoga has passed the smell test at many “Christian” colleges and churches, and is now practiced by many undiscerning Christians, encouraged by pastors and other leaders who are also blind to the truth.



But such is the sad state of the “Christian” college today.  Many Nazarenes, including myself, do not recommend that parents send their children to any Nazarene college at the moment, including attending the seminary, which also promotes contemplative spirituality and occultic Celtic “Christianity.”  I sent an email to President McGee on March 27, asking her to explain why this is being allowed, and if the school is approving of this practice.  I have not yet received a response.
