Victor Davis Hanson: Zelenskyy Bites the Hand That Feeds Him Billions of Dollars

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy strolled into the White House using the same strategy he employed with President Joe Biden, which turned out to be his fatal flaw, argues Victor Davis Hanson on today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “ I think Mr. Zelenskyy, in some ways, is a sympathetic character. He needs American weapons, but he kept arguing and arguing, and interrupting the president of the United States, who kept trying to remind him that without American weapons—and the number is disputed because it includes weaponry, economic assistance, and other types of U.S. aid. “ Without the United States, he would be nowhere. Europe talks a great game. All of Europe together, all 28, 29 nations of the EU, 32 nations of NATO have given less than the United States alone. And they will not come to his aid. “ He was flown in on a U.S. military jet. He met Democratic politicians. He met with union workers at a munitions factory and basically said to them, "These jobs are essential to us." Subtext: "You wouldn't want to lose your job by voting for Donald Trump, who might cut off aid." That was a terrible mistake.

Donald Trump Halts Military Aid for Ukraine: What it Means for Zelenskiy, Europe

US President Donald Trump has ordered a pause in all military aid to Ukraine, turning up the heat on Volodymyr Zelenskiy. The U.S. is holding up all pending military assistance until Trump determines Ukraine’s leaders demonstrate a good-faith commitment to peace, according to a senior Defense Department official who asked not to be identified. The announcement comes only days after the two held a meeting in the Oval Office which left Washington's support for Kyiv in doubt. Bloomberg's Oliver Crook breaks down the situation and what it means.

The Trump administration has announced that it will be pausing all military aid to Ukraine, including weapons in transit on aircraft and ships, and those waiting in Poland.

The pause will be in effect until the U.S. can determine that Ukraine’s leaders demonstrate a good-faith commitment to peace — which has not been evident in the slightest as of late.

“This is not a permanent termination of aid, it’s a pause,” Fox News quoted a Trump administration official as saying.

The news comes just days after President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksy for a meeting in the Oval Office.

Zelensky expressed that he was not interested in making a peace deal with Russia, despite claiming that Ukraine needs “just and lasting peace.""

Elon Musk Indicates Support For The U.S. Leaving NATO And The UN: ‘NATO Is A Cold War Relic’

Billionaire Donald Trump ally Elon Musk recently indicated support for the United States leaving the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the United Nations.

In a Saturday evening X post, MAGA influencer Gunther Eagleman wrote “It’s time to leave NATO and the UN,” in response to Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah).

Musk responded to Eagleman’s post, simply adding “I agree.”

Musk went on to share a Sunday morning X post by Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie, who wrote: “NATO is a Cold War relic that needs to be relegated to a talking kiosk at the Smithsonian.”

Additionally, Musk has expressed his skepticism with the demands for continual support of Ukraine, adding “The EU (European Union) leaders and Zelensky are having fancy dinners while men die in trenches. How many parents will never see their son again? How many children will never see their father?”

Musk’s stance on the U.S. leaving NATO and the UN is consistent with his leadership in the Department of Government Efficiency, as the United States spends a disproportionate amount in defense spending for the two international organizations.

While President Trump has not explicitly stated he plans to exit NATO, he has called on European leaders to increase their share of defense spending.

Musk’s comments follow after the Trump administration has been publicly skeptical of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, while adding that Ukrainian entry into NATO is “unrealistic.”

President Trump also recently argued that NATO expansion into Ukraine may have played a major role in setting the war off, as Putin has been warning the West that NATO expansion on Russia’s borders would be seen as a hostile act since 2008, following the NATO Bucharest Summit where the alliance announced that Ukraine would eventually become a member.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov praised President Trump for his comment regarding NATO’s expansion into Ukraine.

“He is the first, and so far, in my opinion, the only Western leader who has publicly and loudly said that one of the root causes of the Ukrainian situation was the impudent line of the previous administration to draw Ukraine into NATO,” Lavrov stated.

It remains to be seen whether President Trump will act on Musk’s call to exit the international alliances as the war in Ukraine continues to rage on for a third year.

NATO’s Secretary General Mark Rutte issued a blunt warning to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky following his tense Oval Office exchange with President Donald Trump, saying that the Ukrainian leader must make amends.

During remarks to the BBC on Saturday about a call with Zelensky the day before, Rutte said Trump is due credit for the support he gave Ukraine during his first administration.

“I said: I think you have to find a way, dear Volodymyr, to restore your relationship with Donald Trump and the American administration." That is important going forward,” he told the Ukrainian president in a phone call.

On the call, Rutte went on to remind Zelensky that “we really have to respect what President Trump has done so far for Ukraine.”

“Without the Javelins in 2022, when the full-scale attack started, Ukraine would have been nowhere,” Rutte said during the BBC interview. “I told him we really have to give Trump credit for what he did then, what America did since then and also what America is still doing.”

Rutte called Friday’s heated exchange between the two leaders “unfortunate.

According to the Daily Mail, the United States has spent at least $100 billion on military aid to Ukraine.

Victor Davis Hanson: Trump’s Plan for ‘Lasting Peace’ in Ukraine, Russia

Victor Davis Hanson’s advice to Volodymyr Zelenskyy following yesterday’s public spat in the oval office with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance: Wear a suit, act polite, don’t interrupt, and sign one deal, the mineral agreement, that will ensure “lasting peace” with Russia. “There's only one real issue separating Russia now from Ukraine and the United States' participation, and that is how far can you push Putin back? “Donald Trump himself has said he wants to push Putin as far back as possible. That's why this mineral agreement was so innovative. “Because most of the key deposits are along this disputed area. If you can come up with a DMZ close to, or near, where Putin started the war, and he did start the war, and have concessions where Europeans and Americans come in and have personnel on the ground and it's a prosperous, mutually advantaged concession, then you're going to have the beginning of a lasting peace. “Putin will not go in there and kill Americans or disrupt that.”

Treasury Secretary Bessent ‘Shocked’ at Trump, Zelenskiy Argument

United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent sits down for an exclusive interview with Bloomberg's David Westin after a shouting match between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. Bessent discusses the fallout and the future of the US-Ukraine relationship, as well as the status of tariffs and inflation. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent characterized the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to the White House on Friday as “unacceptable.”  “It’s very difficult to do an economic deal with a leader who doesn’t want to do a peace deal,” Bessent said Friday in an interview with Bloomberg Television. Bessent’s comments came shortly after President Donald Trump’s aim to sign a critical minerals deal with Zelenskiy unraveled in a stormy Oval Office confrontation between the two leaders. The public spat was largely over whether Zelenskiy was sufficiently grateful for US assistance. Zelenskiy had been seeking greater security guarantees from the US in exchange for signing on to the pact. The deal didn’t offer explicit security guarantees, instead focusing on the economic partnership between the US and Ukraine. Zelenskiy pressed the point that the minerals deal wouldn’t do enough to deter further Russian aggression. “Putin will never stop and will go further and further,” Zelenskiy said, adding that the Russian leader “hates Ukrainians” and wants to destroy the country. “We can do it, but it’s not enough,” he added of the deal. Bessent called the Zelenskiy argument “one of the great diplomatic own goals in history,” referring to an instance in soccer when a player accidentally scores a goal for the opposing side. “I was shocked, shocked that President Zelenskiy would come into the Oval Office and behave like this, speak to the president, speak to the vice president — but more importantly, disrespect the American people — like this,” Bessent said. The Treasury chief went on to say the proposed minerals agreement would have been a “fantastic deal.” The proposal would share revenue from future extraction of government-owned minerals and energy resources such as gas, as well as from terminals and port infrastructure, according to a draft text seen by Bloomberg. That would apply to new projects rather than existing ones, and could require hefty investment in mines, as well as any processing facilities.

TRUMP SHOCKS THE WORLD WITH HIS POWER PLAY AGAINST ZELENSKY IN OVAL OFFICE

Media analyst Mark Dice breaks down Ukrainian President Zelensky's contentious White House visit that ended with Trump kicking him out. The heated exchange included Trump telling Zelensky "you're in no position to dictate" and JD Vance questioning why Zelensky hasn't thanked America for its support. The confrontation escalated to the point where Zelensky was asked to leave, with even CNN commentators expressing shock at the unprecedented diplomatic incident. The video also examines the national debt clock hitting $36 trillion and criticizes "conservative Inc." influencers for hyping up redacted Epstein documents as breakthrough revelations when they contained already publicly available information from years earlier.
