A judge found illegal migrant Jose Ibarra guilty on Wednesday of murdering 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley, while she was running on the University of Georgia campus on February 22nd.

The 26-year-old Ibarra was found guilty of murder by Athens-Clarke County Superior Court Judge Patrick Haggard and other charges that relate to Riley’s death. Ibarra had waived his right to a jury trial, which meant that it was ultimately up to Haggard to decide his fate.

The trial began Friday, and prosecutors called over a dozen law enforcement officers, Riley’s roommates and a woman who lived in the same apartment as Ibarra. Defense attorneys called a police officer, a jogger and one of Ibarra’s neighbors on Tuesday and rested their case Wednesday morning.

Prosecutor Sheila Ross told the judge that Ibarra encountered Riley while she was out running on the University of Georgia campus on February 22nd and killed her during a struggle.

Defense attorney Dustin Kirby stated that Riley’s death was a tragedy and that the evidence was graphic and disturbing in the case. However, he said there was not sufficient evidence to prove that Ibarra killed Riley.

He now faces life behind bars as the sentencing is set for 12:30 pm ET on Wednesday.

Los Angeles To Become ‘Sanctuary’ City

The Los Angeles City Council has unanimously passed a “sanctuary city” ordinance in order to “protect” illegal migrants from being deported.

On Tuesday, the council passed the ordinance on a 13-0 vote, which L.A. officials claim will codify the protection of migrants in municipal law.

The vote follows President-elect Donald Trump’s recent vow to authorize the U.S. military or National Guard to carry out mass deportations of illegal immigrants as soon as he’s back in the White House.

Meanwhile, Councilmember Nithya Raman, who hails from India, had a few words to say in regards to Trump’s promise.

“Immigrants make up the very fabric of Los Angeles, and they deserve to feel safe and protected in the city they call home, no matter who is in power,” said Raman, whose family moved to the U.S. from India when she was six years old.

“I am who I am today because of immigrants—people like my parents, extended family, and the community who raised me,” said Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez. “The same is true for Los Angeles, a city built on the dreams and labor of generations of immigrants. We will not allow hateful rhetoric or destructive policies to tear families apart or dim the light of their contributions.” Today, we declare to the nation that Los Angeles thrives because of immigrants, and we are better because of their work and contributions.”

Los Angeles, the nation’s second-largest city, is home to an estimated 951,000 illegal immigrants, according to the Migration Policy Institute. However, some have disputed this number and believe that it is much higher.

Meanwhile, Republican leaders in Los Angeles condemned Tuesday’s vote, labeling it as misguided.

“So-called ‘sanctuary’ cities and states sound warm and fuzzy, but the protections they offer aren’t for abuelas getting ice cream, they’re for people who’ve entered the country illegally and committed additional crimes,” said Roxanne Hodge, communications director for the Republican Party of Los Angeles County. “Whether drunk driving, robbery, sexual violence, assault or murder, none of those should go unpunished. Perpetrators should definitely not be protected by the largesse taken from hard-working taxpayers.”

The Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education unanimously approved a “sanctuary city” resolution on Monday, coinciding with the City Council vote. The resolution directs LAUSD teachers and staff to receive training on how to respond if contacted by federal immigration officials.

On Monday, President-elect Trump recirculated a social media post implying that his administration would declare illegal immigration a national emergency while utilizing military resources to deport those who are here illegally.

While running for president, Trump promised deportations under the Alien Enemies Act, an 18th-century law that allows for the summary detention and removal of any foreign national over the age of 14 who comes from a country at war with the U.S.

His urgent warning about WW3

Charlie Kirk: Today, You Woke Up Closer to Nuclear War Than Ever Before. Thanks Biden

Will Russia declare WAR on America after Biden lets Ukraine fire ATACMS missiles?

President Biden - or whoever is calling the shots - has authorized Ukraine to fire American-made ATACMS missiles into Russia. This happened even after Vladimir Putin said that crossing this red line would mean war with whoever supplied the missiles! So why would Biden push us closer to World War III just 62 days before Donald Trump takes office? "What Joe Biden did is impeachable," Glenn declares. But will World War III break out? Or will Russia just attack Ukraine even harder, possibly with a tactical nuclear weapon on the battlefield? Glenn's head researcher, Jason Buttrill, joins us to discuss.

South Carolina Republican Rep. Nancy Mace introduced a measure Monday that would ban transgender women from using women's bathrooms and other facilities, like locker rooms, on Capitol Hill. The proposed legislation comes as the U.S. House is set to swear in the first openly transgender member of Congress, Delaware Rep.-elect Sarah McBride.

President-elect Donald Trump will reportedly name Howard Lutnick, the co-chair of his transition team, to the role of commerce secretary, according to multiple sources.

Lutnick, the CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, was previously rumored to be a contender for the position of treasury secretary under the incoming Trump administration. Nevertheless, the position ended up going to hedge fund manager Scott Bessent.

As the new commerce secretary, Lutnick will play an important role in enacting Trump’s planned tariffs on imported goods. The rivalry for the treasury secretary position saw different groups of Trump allies pushing for their preferred candidate.

SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk came out in support of Lutnick over the past weekend, stating that he “will enact change,” while Bessent would be a “business-as-usual” choice.

“Lutnick, when he was out on the campaign trail with the 45th president, often touted his resilience in business and spoke about the tragedy of losing more than 650 employees — including his younger brother, Gary — in the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks,” Musk stated.

Lutnick has been at Cantor Fitzgerald since the 1980s, after he graduated from Haverford College with an economics degree. Lutnick was also working at Cantor Fitzgerald in New York’s World Trade Center towers during the tragic 9/11 terrorist attacks. Hundreds of Cantor Fitzgerald employees, including Lutnick’s brother, were killed on that day.

After the historic attacks, Lutnick became an outspoken supporter of the business community as New York was rebuilding from the tragedy.

Lutnick’s pick was first reported by Punchbowl News.

Manhattan DA Bragg Agrees To Postpone Trump’s Sentencing, But ‘Not Dropping’ Case

Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg has agreed to postpone President-elect Donald Trump’s sentencing in his so-called “hush money” case. However, he has not dropped the case and maintains that he doesn’t plan to.

On Tuesday, Bragg stated in a letter to Judge Juan Merchan that Trump is not likely to be sentenced “until after the end of [the] Defendant’s upcoming presidential term.” However, he did assert that the felony conviction should stand, in his opinion.

“No current law establishes that a president’s temporary immunity from prosecution requires dismissal of a post-trial criminal proceeding that was initiated at a time when the defendant was not immune from criminal prosecution and that is based on official conduct for which the defendant is also not immune,” the district attorney’s office wrote.

A New York court found Trump guilty of 34 felonies related to allegedly manipulating business records pertaining to a $130,000 payment made by his former attorney, Michael Cohen, to porn star Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 election. Trump has pleaded not guilty in the case and maintains that he never had sexual relations with Daniels.

Trump had been scheduled to be sentenced on November 26th, but last week, Merchan put all proceedings in the case on pause at the request of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office.

“Merchan can move to either delay Trump’s sentencing until after he leaves the White House, could dismiss the conviction outright, or could grant a sentence of unconditional discharge, which would leave the conviction intact but free Trump from any prison time, fines, or probation,” Fox News reported.

Prosecutors had asked for more time to consider the next steps in the case, citing the need to balance the “competing interests” between having the criminal case go forward and protecting the office of the incoming president-elect.

Meanwhile, Trump’s defense lawyers have urged the judge to dismiss the case due to the “unconstitutional impediments” to his ability to govern.

He also argued that the conviction should be vacated and the charges dismissed because of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in July that presidents cannot be prosecuted over their official acts, and that evidence of their official acts cannot be used in trials over personal behavior.

In a statement responding to Bragg’s decision, Trump spokesman Steven Cheung called the filing “a total and definitive victory for President Trump.”
