Donald Trump is going to be sentenced to prison. It’s absurd, it’s unjust, and it’s another body blow to the idea that America is a free republic where dissent is not just tolerated, but welcomed, and any man can get justice, no matter the color of his skin, contents of his wallet, or nature of his political opinions. All that is dead now, or dying, and even though Trump is unlikely to serve time, the sentence is coming as inevitably as fall follows summer.

This is because Juan M. Merchan, the unassailable source of impartial justice, on Wednesday denied Trump’s third request to recuse himself from the Stalinist show trial he is overseeing in Manhattan. Trump, convicted of thirty-four felonies that are misdemeanors when anyone else commits them, pointed out that Merchan, whose brazen unfairness and rabid partisanship have been obvious since the beginning of these proceedings, has ties to Kamala Harris. Merchan, however, dismisses these as “stale and unsubstantiated claims,” and that’s that. No one else’s opinion was solicited or necessary. And that means that in a few weeks, Trump’s prison sentence will come.

The sentencing is set to come on Sept. 18. Former prosecutor Andrew McCarthy points out that Sept. 18 is “two days after early voting in the 2024 election begins in Pennsylvania.” Merchan’s goal, according to McCarthy, is “to enable Vice President Harris and the media-Democratic complex to label Trump ‘a convicted felon sentenced to prison’ just weeks before Election Day, at a time when Americans will already have started voting in many states, not least the potentially decisive Pennsylvania battleground.” Hey, it’s easier than lining up the record of the Trump administration and the Biden regime and showing that it was a grand thing that Old Joe started pretending to be president on Jan. 20, 2021.

The whole idea is just to give the Harris campaign a powerful talking point when it’s crunch time. “The New York prosecution of Trump,” McCarthy points out, “was politics, not justice." That’s why we call it ‘lawfare.’ The prosecutors and judge are not concerned about whether convictions ultimately get thrown out on appeal.” It’s all just a stunt, put on from start to finish for political purposes.

And so Merchan will sentence Trump to prison. The former president doesn’t have to be apprehended and forced behind bars for the gambit to work. McCarthy explains, “And it’s not like Merchan is actually going to put Trump in prison; it is virtually certain that Trump will get bail pending appeal, so Merchan can appear to impose a stiff incarceration sentence without any real incarceration — at least for now, and probably ever.” We can hope for the sake of what remains of the concept of impartial justice in the United States that McCarthy is right about this, but many analysts were saying that Trump would never be subjected to the indignity of a mugshot as well. It is entirely possible, given the authoritarian bent of the Biden-Harris regime and its incandescent hatred for Trump, that he will indeed go to prison.

Trump behind bars may be the left’s last resort, short of another assassination attempt. They’ve tried framing him for crimes, including a bogus “insurrection.” They impeached him twice. They’ve convicted him in court on charges that were concocted to give them a pretext to say that a court had found him guilty of wrongdoing. The prison card could be the last one they’re holding.

If Trump were in prison, leftists could say that this convicted and imprisoned felon could not possibly become the nation’s Chief Executive. How could he carry out acts of state? Would he conduct affairs of state from a prison cell? Would visiting heads of state have to be escorted into a penitentiary in order to meet with the president of the United States? Why, it would make a mockery of the nation in the eyes of the world! Never mind that old Joe Biden has been bumbling around on the global stage for three and a half years now, demonstrating the depth of his dementia and the endless credulity of a sizable segment of the American electorate. We’ll be told that as prisoners, Trump cannot possibly serve as president. There would even be calls for the Republicans to replace him with someone acceptable to the political establishment — say, Nikki Haley.

And so Merchan, according to McCarthy, “admonished the parties to prepare for the court to move ahead with the imposition of sentence on Sept. 18.… If we may read the tea leaves, Merchan has already decided that he will deny Trump’s immunity motion. There is, moreover, a high likelihood that he will impose a prison sentence against Trump right after that.” And then watch for the calls that, in the name of supposedly impartial justice, the left’s Emmanuel Goldstein must serve his time behind bars.

The Biden-Harris regime is supposed to be an ally of Israel and occasionally sends signals to that effect, but its real loyalties are not hard to figure out.

The Biden-Harris regime is all about holding and increasing its power, and Israel is in the way of that aspiration right now. In pursuit of votes in Michigan and Minnesota, Kamala Harris just chose Tim Walz as her running mate over a stronger candidate, Josh Shapiro, because Shapiro is Jewish. Qatar has sent billions to the bankrollers of Hamas, Hezbollah, the Islamic Republic of Iran and hundreds of millions to Gaza, according to Hamas. It has withheld arms shipments to Israel. And now it is being accused of a betrayal so immense that it makes those others look like friendship.

Amir Fakhravar, a former political prisoner of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) inside Iran and the Senate chairman of the National Iranian Congress, states that shortly after the assassination of Hamas top dog Ismail Haniyeh and a key Hizballah operative, Fuad Shukr, the Biden-Harris regime swung into action. To warn the Iranians that if they attacked Israel, they would suffer serious consequences? That’s what many have assumed. In an opinion piece at Fox News on Monday, Fakhravar revealed that “Kuwait’s Al-Jarida newspaper, citing an unnamed source in Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, reported that a high-level American security delegation, brokered by Oman, secretly traveled to Tehran.” That doesn’t sound so bad in itself. But it gets much, much worse.

The mission of this high-level delegation, according to Fakhravar, was not to deter the Iranians from striking against Israel by informing them that America was fully prepared to defend its ally. Instead, the delegation’s job was to “deliver a ‘calming and cautionary’ message to deescalate the situation and ensure the supreme leader of Iran understood that the Biden-Harris administration was ‘kept in the dark’ by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the killing of two major terrorist leaders last week.”

That’s right: the American delegation, if the Kuwaiti report is correct, did not go to Tehran to demonstrate America’s strength; rather, it went there in order to show America’s weakness. The delegation was intent not on warning Iran not to attack Israel, but to insist that America hadn’t had anything to do with the killings of Haniyeh and Shukr, for those nasty Israelis had not taken them into their confidence.

Even worse, these cowardly appeasers reportedly went to the Iranians bearing gifts. Fakhravar states: “The detailed report stated that the American delegation, arriving on a private plane from Turkey, landed at Payam-e-Khorram Airport in Karaj on Thursday and held a two-hour meeting with Iranian officials before returning to Ankara.” At this meeting, the greatest betrayal of all was consummated: “the delegation presented a list containing the names of ten Mossad agents inside Iran, whom the Americans believe were involved in the assassination, directly or indirectly.”

To put this into perspective, recall that on April 18, 1943, in the middle of World War II, American forces shot down the aircraft carrying Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, the commander-in-chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Imagine if a week or two later, a high-level British delegation had made its way to Tokyo in order to assure the Japanese that they didn’t know about the operation to take out Yamamoto and didn’t have anything to do with it. Imagine further that the British then gave the Japanese the names and whereabouts of ten Americans who were involved in the action against Yamamoto.

If that had happened, it might have been enough to sever the U.S./British alliance. But today, the Biden-Harris regime does not hesitate to extend this sort of gesture of good will to a regime that regularly chants “Death to America.” The Kuwaiti report explains that “this was intended as a good faith initiative in response to the Israeli state’s stunning strike, which was carried out without coordination with Washington.” A “good faith initiative”? To a regime that has never shown good faith and has repeatedly vowed the destruction of America as well as Israel?

The State Department was quick to deny the accuracy of the Kuwaiti report, and as damning as it is, that’s no surprise. Fakhravar notes, however, that “Secretary of State Antony Blinken admitted that to deescalate the conflict, the Biden administration had ‘engaged in intense diplomacy with allies and partners, communicating that message directly to Iran,’ which largely confirms the Kuwaiti newspaper’s report.”

The effects were seen immediately. “[A]fter the reported visit by the U.S. delegation, more than two dozen people, including senior intelligence officers, military officials, and staff workers at a military-run guesthouse in Tehran, were arrested in response to the assassination of the Hamas leader,” according to the report.

Are those two dozen people suffering unimaginable horrors in Iranian prisons today because of the Biden-Harris regime’s anxiousness to betray Israel? It sure looks like it.

Kamala Picks Terror Supporter as “Liaison” to American Jews

“Pressure is building in Congress for Biden to do more to halt Israel’s assault on Gaza,” he was asked in a 2021 interview as fighting raged to stop Hamas assaults on Israel.

“Hopefully he can use it as leverage to get the Israelis to stop,” Ilan Goldenberg, Kamala’s future Middle East advisor and new liaison to the Jewish community, answered.

Could the Kamala administration be any worse for the Jews than the Obama administration?

An early answer arrived with the announcement that the Harris-Walz campaign had picked Ilan Goldenberg as its ‘liaison’ to the Jewish community. Freedom Center Investigators had previously profiled Goldenberg while he was serving as Kamala’s Middle East advisor.

A member of the Kerry team under Obama, whose biased attacks on Israel and support for Iran and Islamic terrorists in Israel helped lead to the current regional crisis, Goldenberg had spent the years leading up to Oct 7 doing everything possible to make the Hamas attack happen.

And time afterward serving as Kamala's adviser and imposing sanctions on Israelis.

Ilan Goldenberg had previously advocated for a deal in which “Hamas would retain some of its military capabilities” and argued that “half the root causes are Israeli actions, in terms of — especially just focusing on Gaza, on the blockade. And the other half is Hamas’ choice to use violence and arm itself in response.” He had urged that more money should go into Hamas territory and argued that Israel should in allow workers from Gaza. “You used to have 25,000, 100,000 Gazans working inside Israel. That needs to happen again.” That led to Oct 7.

Kamala’s new Jewish "liaison" opposed every single pro-Israel move by both Republicans and Democrats, whether it was moving the embassy to Jerusalem, recognizing the Golan Heights or even cutting off aid to the "pay-to-slay" program of the Palestinian Authority. Instead, he urged anti-Israel moves including a unilateral recognition of a ‘Palestinian’ state on Israel’s territory.

Ilan Goldenberg has been a vocal proponent of the Iran Deal, and attended an event by NIAC: the Iran Lobby. He had argued that “In the aftermath of a successful nuclear deal, U.S. relations with Iran should shift from that of an adversary to that of a competitor.”

Ilan Goldenberg had been part of the team that was responsible for and had defended the Obama administration’s opposition to Israel at the UN.

A recent Tablet article by Michael Doran of the Center for Peace and Security in the Middle East had described Goldenberg as playing a “very enthusiastic role” in the Biden administration’s program to sanction Jews in Israel. So far those sanctions have targeted an Israeli goat farm, an Israeli baker who shot a terrorist, and an Israeli mother of 8, who worked with survivors of sexual assault and led protests against Biden's policies that rewarded Hamas.

Rather than being associated with the Jewish community, Goldenberg was tied to anti-Israel groups including J Street, Peace Now and the Israel Policy Forum, which hailed the pick. Goldenberg had a scant history with Jewish groups, but he had attended an event for NIAC, the Iran Lobby, and had been a vigorous champion of the deal that empowered Iran’s terrorism.

But none of that may even be the most disturbing part of the move by VP Kamala Harris.

Previous Jewish liaisons were usually involved with Jewish communal life and could speak to a variety of issues. Ilan Goldenberg is simply an anti-Israel activist whose only issues are empowering Iran and Hamas. Kamala just reduced the Jewish community to support for her anti-Israel program without even any acknowledgement that there are American Jews.

A Kamala aide stated that Goldenberg would be “the campaign’s main liaison with Jewish community leaders and stakeholders and advise the campaign on issues related to the U.S.-Israel relationship, the war in Gaza and the broader Middle East.”

There’s no mention of anything American Jews might be interested in inside America.

American Jews are not the Israeli government or an arm of it. And yet for Kamala, that is all they are. Kamala’s aide couldn’t think of American Jews except in terms of foreign policy.

Kamala’s mouthpieces in the Jewish community claimed that because her husband is of Jewish ancestry, that she understands Jews. If anything, American Jews are apparently alien to her.

Instead of selecting someone from the Jewish community or any of her political aides, Kamala chose someone whose sole function will be to justify her anti-Israel policies to the Jewish community, and who will filter any efforts by the Jewish community to push back against them.

What can American Jews expect from Ilan Goldenberg and by extent from Kamala Harris?

During the 2021 battles with Hamas, Goldenberg explained why Biden was only pretending to support Israel. “What Biden has decided to do for the moment is privately tell the Israelis to stop or to stop soon while publicly continuing to support them. This helps him build political support… but when there does come a moment, hopefully soon… where Biden says, ‘OK, enough is enough, you must stop or our public position is going to start to shift." Our position at the UN Security Council where we’ve been defending you, is going to start to shift. You need to make this end.’”

“But if he had just started by publicly criticizing, I think that the belief, at least in the Biden administration, is that it might have been a moment for Prime Minister Netanyahu to. stand up to the United States and say we don’t take our orders from the United States. We have to do what’s best for our security and kind of use the disagreement with the U.S. as a political rallying cry for himself at home. And so I think this is one of the reasons why the Biden administration chose to, at least at the beginning, publicly support Israel.”

Lies, deceit and manipulation with the aim of empowering Hamas and destroying Israel.

Every single ‘rabbi’ featured on the ‘Jewish Americans for Kamala Harris’ virtually rally organized by Haile Sofer, Kamala’s former adviser, and her Jewish Democratic Council of America, who was an anti-Israel activist. Sofer and the JDCA, who had formerly hailed Sen. Schumer’s demand that Israel stop fighting Hamas, celebrated Goldenberg’s appointment.

The Kamala campaign and its political allies are leading a fundamental break with Israel, even before the election, while disguising it with happy talk for the benefit of some of their donors.

The appointment of one of the most persistently hostile foreign policy figures as a ‘liaison’ to the Jewish community sends a powerful message that this administration will be as anti-Israel as him and that Kamala will reconfigure her relationship with American Jews around her anti-Israel policies. Not even Obama went that far. What does it say that Kamala is already doing it now?
