Biden Regime’s Department of Education Sues Columbia University

But not for what you’d expect.

After anti-Israel mobs rioted at Columbia University, broke into an academic building, and menaced Jewish students, it’s not surprising that the Department of Education has opened a civil rights investigation of the university. Clearly, the rights of many Jewish and pro-Israel students have been trampled, and so it’s reassuring to see education bureaucrats acting to restore some sanity and decency at Columbia.

The only problem is that they’re not doing that. Instead, the Biden regime’s Department of Education is only making things worse. Its civil rights investigation is not about the mistreatment of Jewish students, but of Palestinian students.

Yes, we have really entered bizarro world, and everything is upside down. USA Today reported Friday that “the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights on Thursday opened an investigation into Columbia University for how it’s treated Palestinian students and allies, lawyers said.” The Biden apparatchiks have filed a complaint that “alleges unequal treatment by Columbia administrators, including President Minouche Shafik.”

Remember, this is the same Minouche Shafik, about whom the Washington Post reported Friday that “several Republican lawmakers have accused her of not taking rapid action against protesters and not doing enough to make Jewish students feel safe on campus.” Yet as far as the Biden regime’s Department of Education is concerned, it isn’t the Jewish students who feel unsafe. USA Today continues: “Four students and the student organization, Students for Justice in Palestine, told federal officials they experienced harassment, death threats and doxing on campus since the start of the war, according to the complaint filed by Palestine Legal, a legal aid organization.”

Meanwhile, back on planet Earth, this is what has really been happening at Columbia University. At the end of April, pro-Hamas thugs assaulted a Jewish student. This took place as pro-Hamas protestors, many from outside the university, shattered the glass of the university’s main building and occupied it.

All that happened months after Columbia administrators met with a student, Khymani James, and heard him speak openly about murdering Jews. Not only did they opt not to expel him and allow him to remain on campus, but they watched as he became the leader of the encampment protests. Then he issued a video in which he said: “Be glad — be grateful — that I’m not just going out and murdering Zionists." I’ve never murdered anyone in my life, and I hope to keep it that way.”

Back in the Education Department’s bizarro world, however, Radhika Sainath of Palestine Legal claimed that “for months, Columbia has not only failed to take action to protect Palestinian students and their allies speaking out for Palestinian freedom from racist harassment and discrimination, but actively engaged in differential treatment. This investigation could not have come at a better time, as we just saw Columbia escalate its crackdown against Palestinian students and their allies by bringing in the NYPD to brutally arrest student protesters for the second time in less than two weeks.”

This civil rights complaint couldn’t possibly be more absurd. In pursuing it, the Biden regime once again demonstrates its true colors and deep hatred of Israel. Are Jewish students breaking into and trashing university buildings? Are Jewish students assaulting Palestinian Arab students?

There is abundant justification for a civil rights investigation of how Jewish students are being treated at Columbia, but the Students for Justice in Palestine and Palestine Legal know how to play the game: they know that victimhood is a coveted status in our sick society, and that consequently, being the first or loudest to claim that status is a quick pathway to preferential treatment and even pecuniary reward.

It’s also useful to recall that Students for Justice in Palestine is the brainchild of a professor of “Islamophobia” named Hatem Bazian, who has openly called for an intifada, a violent uprising, not in Israel only, but in the United States as well. And regarding supporters of Israel, he has declared, “We need to harass them.”

Yet it is his group, not the people that members of his group frequently harass on campuses, that is the object of the Department of Education’s efforts. This entirely ridiculous charade is a prime example of how our academic institutions have lost their way, deserve no public funding, and are in severe, cryptic need of reform.

What has happened of late at Columbia illustrates that anew. But also in radical need of reform is the Washington bureaucracy. Instead of acting against the pro-Hamas thuggery at Columbia and other campuses, the Biden regime is aiding and abetting it.

Iran Calls on Islamic Nations to Sever Ties With Israel

Grand plans to unify and magnify the Muslim Ummah.

Virtually all of the states in the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation (56 nations and “Palestine,” which is not a state) support the interests, causes and ambitions of their Palestinian “brothers,” with no acknowledgement of Hamas’ barbaric attack on Israeli citizens on October 7, 2023. This was crystal clear at the recent OIC summit in Gambia. “Gaza tops agenda at Organization of Islamic Cooperation summit,” Africa News, May 5, 2024:

The 15th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation got underway on Saturday in the Gambian capital, Banjul, with the conflict in Gaza at the top of the agenda….

The OIC condemned Israel’s attacks on Gaza and reaffirmed the organisation’s support for, and commitment to the people of Palestine.

The rogue nation of Iran, the main funder of Hamas, which is embraced by the OIC, was present. Less than two weeks prior to October 7, the Secretary General of the OIC, Hissein Brahim Taha, emphasized the need for unity among Muslim nations, stressing the importance of Iran’s place in “Muslim unity” in dealing with “common threats,” as he referenced “the Zionist regime.” In mid-October, the OIC accused Israel of “crimes against humanity,” with no mention of Hamas atrocities.

Saudi Arabia is a key member of the OIC, and it included Iran in its commitment to host Arab and Islamic summits in order to promote “peace” and discuss Gaza the conflict. With talk frequently circulating in the West about Saudi Arabia normalizing relations with Israel, the Saudis have already laid out their demand for Israel to return to the pre-1967 Auschwitz borders, and blamed Israel as “occupiers” on the very date of Hamas’ savagery, October 7. Until Israel signals that it is willing to return to the pre-1967 borders, which it has not done, normalization with Saudi Arabia is in question, despite the subject being a focal point of the Biden administration, with many following along. It is up to Israel to normalize the negotiated conditions, not to the Biden administration working with Saudi Arabia in Israel’s absence.

Although the Saudis will continue to push for normalization to benefit from its economic growth, so far it has presented its own conditions and interests, not Israel’s. Saudi Arabia is more loyal to the Muslim ummah, and proved it in spades at the Gambia OIC summit, where its Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan reaffirmed “the Kingdom’s call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, safe humanitarian corridors, and the fulfillment of Palestinians’ legitimate rights, including their right to self-determination and an independent state.” Faisal also “expressed regret over the failure of the UN Security Council and the international community to halt Israeli attacks on Palestinians”; and just in case there is still any ambiguity where the Saudis stand, Faisal added: “The Palestinian cause has remained a priority for the OIC since its inception,”  adding:

“It is unfortunate to witness the failure of the Security Council and the international community to halt unprecedented Israeli attacks, which have escalated through indiscriminate shelling, destruction of hospitals, schools, shelters, and infrastructure in Gaza, leaving thousands of innocent civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, as victims,”

Iran meanwhile, called on Islamic countries “to sever ties with Israeli regime.” Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian delegitimized the State of Israel in his speech:

Because the Israeli regime is not a legitimate government. It is only occupying apartheid power…Passage of time is not going to lend legitimacy to an occupying power.

There is no doubt that severing diplomatic and economic relations and practical arms and trade embargo is an important tool in stopping Israel’s genocide in Gaza and its crimes in the West Bank and Al-Quds Al-Sharif. We sincerely appreciate the Muslim and freedom-loving governments and countries that took action in this direction…

Abdollahian’s words echoed Article 19 of the Palestinian National Charter:

The partition of Palestine in 1947 and the establishment of the state of Israel are entirely illegal, regardless of the passage of time, because they were contrary to the will of the Palestinian people and to their natural right in their homeland, and inconsistent with the principles embodied in the Charter of the United Nations; particularly the right to self-determination.

The Palestinian “resistance” against Israel “from the River to the Sea” means the obliteration of Israel from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. The Palestinian cause remains central to the OIC. In remarks at the summit, Gambia’s President Adama Barrow blamed Palestinian oppression and “endless human suffering” on Israel from the day of Israel’s founding. The OIC stood unified in condemning “Israel’s attacks on Gaza and reaffirmed the organisation’s support for, and commitment to, the people of Palestine.”

But where was the condemnation of Hamas?

In the next stage of the 15th OIC session, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar “expressed his deep concern over Israel’s ‘brutal military onslaught.’” He also urged OIC member states “to formulate a joint strategy to fight Islamophobia at the global level, work together to bring in an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and implement its ‘Action Plan’ on Jammu and Kashmir.” Pakistan, known for its cruel blasphemy laws, zeroed in on the rise of “Islamophobia,” while ignoring, of course, the antisemitism has risen to alarming proportions since October 7.

The goals of obliterating Israel, the conquest of India, and pushing Islamic blasphemy laws globally — using the “Islamophobia” subterfuge — have been primary concerns of Islamic supremacists everywhere.

In keeping with the principle of striking the iron while it’s hot, expect an increase in collective antagonism to emerge from the OIC summit, not only toward Israel, but against Western interests, particularly in the face of a weak leader such as Joe Biden. Days ago, Biden was ripped for bringing up “Islamophobia” amid the worst outbreak of antisemitism in decades. His alignment with OIC interests is certain to be noted globally.

Biden Risks American Lives to Protect Hamas

No American should die to protect Hamas supporters in Gaza.

[Order Daniel Greenfield’s new book, Domestic Enemies: HERE.]

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin recently admitted at a congressional hearing that American soldiers operating Biden’s disastrous “aid pier” for Gaza could come under attack from Islamic terrorists.

Biden has not sent a single soldier to recover American hostages being held by Hamas, but there are now soldiers in the line of fire in order to send aid to Gaza.

In the event American forces on the pier come under attack, they would be allowed to fight back, Austin promised. But based on the rules of engagement in Iraq and Afghanistan, all the terrorists have to do is attack from a mosque or from behind civilians, and American soldiers would be banned from fighting back.

And those are the ways that Hamas tends to attack.

Late last month, Islamic terrorists fired mortar shells at the pier, forcing a UN team to flee for cover and damaging some of our equipment. After the attack, it was announced that the Israeli military would be tasked with providing security for the pier since Biden’s efforts to recruit Muslim allies to protect it had failed.

After the mortar attack, the terror pier was moved to the Israeli port of Ashdod, allegedly because of the bad weather, but also because of the terrorist attacks. It’s still sitting in Ashdod, despite having been completed because it’s too fragile to move in stormy weather. What’s going to happen if there’s bad weather once the pier is in place? If this one breaks, we’ll probably have to build another one.

But after having wasted hundreds of millions of dollars on the terror pier, Biden is waiting on the Israelis to secure it. Even with the Israelis physically attaching the pier, so that Biden can claim that there are American “no boots on the ground”, American personnel will still be within firing range of Islamic terrorists in Gaza.

This would not be a threat if Biden stopped interfering with Israel’s war on terrorists. But the pier is part of the Biden administration’s campaign to undermine Israel’s war effort. And that’s putting American lives at risk.

Beyond the terror pier, there are now reports that, after Israel finally took control of the border crossing between Egypt and Gaza (despite years of lies about an ‘open-air concentration camp’, Egypt, an Arab Muslim country, has its own border crossing with the Islamic terror state), Biden wants America to step in.

Unwilling to have Israel control the Rafah crossing into Egypt, where the majority of Hamas’ terror forces are based, negotiations are reportedly underway to bring in a “private American security company” that “has operated in several African and Middle Eastern countries, guarding strategic sites like oil fields, airports, army bases and sensitive border crossings” which “employs veterans of elite U.S. Army units.” This is likely to be Blackwater (which has been renamed several times) or some company like it with similar capabilities.

The ex-military personnel won’t count as “boots on the ground” but having private security contractors performing military tasks and then getting killed is no better than American military forces dying in combat with terrorists. The use of contractors during the War on Terror helped hide casualty rates, but didn’t lessen the fact that Americans were still being killed. As we saw in Benghazi.

Above all else, there is no reason for American forces, no matter how they’re classified to be tasked with securing the so-called aid crossings, whether it’s Biden’s terror pier or the Rafah crossing, when the Israelis should be in charge.

And the Israelis want to be in charge.

The only reason Americans are being put in harm’s way is because Biden doesn’t want the Israelis in control. After trying to solicit anyone else to step in, Americans are being put at risk to protect Islamic terrorists from Israel.

Opponents of the Jewish State have often accused Israel of putting Americans at risk, but it’s those opponents, especially in the Biden administration, whose obsession with protecting Muslim terrorists from Israel is really endangering us.

What is America’s national interest in protecting Iran’s terror proxies in Gaza?

Set aside any sentimental attachments to the Jewish State or any religious and cultural sympathies, and there’s still no conceivable reason to prop up another of the terrorist ‘dragon’s teeth’ that Iran has sown in Yemen, Lebanon and Israel.

The lineage of the 'Palestinian' cause can be traced back to the Soviet Union’s Marxist terrorist operations, Nazi Germany’s influence operation with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and, more recently, the Islamic revolution in Iran. What all of those had in common was that they were efforts to subvert Western presence in the Middle East by recruiting and funding Muslim terror groups.

America tried to stay out of it until Jimmy Carter decided to make common cause with Islamic terrorists. This disastrous policy led to the Islamic takeover of Iran and then Afghanistan, and to the deaths of thousands of Americans. Carter also embraced the ‘Palestinian’ cause and Clinton committed us to spending endless billions trying to create an Islamic terror state in Israel.

Until Trump, no president had the courage to try and disentangle us from the Palestinians. And until Biden, no president was this close to committing American troops to protecting a population that universally wants to kill us.

Israel wants to end the terror threat from Gaza and the West Bank. Biden should let it. Life was a whole lot better for everyone before Clinton’s experiment in ‘nation building’ led to endless waves of terror in pursuit of a Palestinian state.

If Biden really cared about the lives of Arab Muslims living in Gaza, he would let Israel quickly finish the job of putting down the terrorists. Like the rules of engagement imposed on American soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq, the only thing that the restrictions imposed on the Israeli military have done is get good men killed while dragging out a war that could have been ended long ago.

Too many American civilians were already killed in Islamic terror attacks in Israel. If Israel is willing to drain the terror swamps in the West Bank and Gaza, let it.

No American should die to protect Hamas or its supporters in Gaza.

The idea that we were going to neutralize ‘trouble spots’ through nation building has been tested and failed badly. While Biden washed his hands in Afghanistan, he still insists on keeping the mirage of a .Palestinian state going even though it predated our involvement in Afghanistan by a decade and failed even worse.

It’s time to end the worst and longest nation building experiment to date.

The obsession with creating a ‘Palestinian state’ has cost billions of dollars and the lives of American civilians. Now Biden is risking the death of American soldiers, in or out of uniform, to keep the nation-building dream alive.

Biden withdrew from Afghanistan, but now he wants to get us into Gaza.

Our Battle Against Jew Hatred Comes Full Circle

Always on offense, never on defense.

Who would have ever expected that the first terror base in our nation would be on an American campus?

We did. We warned you about it.

Recently, Robert Spencer, the Director of Jihad Watch and a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center, was invited to speak at UCLA.

UCLA blocked him from speaking because of the Hamas riots. But Robert wouldn’t give up and neither would we. The story that made national news and his speech, telling the truth about Islamic terrorism at ground zero for terror supporters, is back on.

After the Hamas riots, the Freedom Center went back to UCLA and put up posters telling the truth about the pro-terror hate groups. The last time we did that, UCLA’s DEI boss threatened us with legal action. But we’re not going to be intimidated and we will never back down.

That’s part of our work of over three decades, where David Horowitz, Spencer and the investigative journalists and writers at the Freedom Center have been warning that

Students for Justice in Palestine, a project of the parent organization of Hamas, has been running a Hitler Youth campaign on American campuses to convince a generation of students of the lie that Israel is a colonialist oppressor and the Palestinians are its blameless victims.

The SJP is currently playing a leading role in Hamas campus encampments and riots.

The UCLA Hamas riots are in the news now. When we exposed Hamas supporters on campus, UCLA’s vice chancellor for DEI threatened to sue us for calling SJP “murderers and terrorists.”

Now the entire nation can see what we saw then.

The Freedom Center was among the first to take the war against Jewish hatred to the campuses with speeches, ads, and our “Wall of Truth” campaign to refute SJP’s antisemitic lies.  And we were never afraid to call them “Jew Haters,” “Nazis,” and “supporters of terror” or to state openly that Hamas was funding SJP.

We named UCLA, Columbia, Georgetown, SFSU, NYU and many others, along with the professors responsible for the culture of Jewish hatred on American campuses that are now in the news on a daily basis. We called out these institutions and urged them to confront the Jewish hatred rapidly spreading on their campuses, and we were accused of being “Islamophobes.”

When Hamas supporters came to campus, we were there to challenge them.

Unlike a lot of establishment groups, we did not play defense. We went on the offensive with our Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, posters and newspapers distributed directly on campuses, ad space secured in campus newspapers, and speeches given under the threat of violence.

Despite being outnumbered and outshouted, we never backed down. The same universities, now hosting anti-Semitic “encampments” refused to run our ads or print our editorials in their campus newspapers because they disputed our conclusion—now proven beyond a shadow of a doubt—that SJP is affiliated with Hamas. They call us liars, but we have been proven right.

In 2016, the Freedom Center papered the campus of San Diego State University with posters identifying prominent students and faculty affiliated with SJP and the BDS movement as having “allied themselves with Palestinian terrorists.”

We took out an ad in the campus newspaper stating: “There is an epidemic of Jewish hatred on American campuses and at San Diego State University." This Jewish hatred is incited by Students for Justice in Palestine, the Muslim Students Association and assorted leftist groups, all of whom support the terrorist organizations Hamas and Fatah.”

In response, hundreds of students participated in a mass protest, swarming then-university president Elliot Hirshman and demanding an apology for his failure to adequately condemn our posters. The demonstrators were incensed that they would dare insinuate that their social justice movement was affiliated with terrorists. It doesn’t seem quite so crazy anymore.

When David Horowitz spoke about SJP’s push for a second Holocaust at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus, he was greeted with anti-Semitic posters depicting him with an exaggerated nose, standing in a garbage can, and wearing a Nazi-style armband. The posters labeled him a “right-wing hatemonger, Israeli apologist and Judeofascist.” These images were plastered all over campus walls, including in the Student Union where SJP was provided with plush offices by UW administrators.

The same university forces who for decades turned a blind eye to the terrorist and neo-Nazi tactics of SJP are responsible for allowing radicals to take over their campuses, turning them into hostile enclaves where Jews and Zionists are prohibited.

This madness could all have been avoided if they had heeded our warnings.

We were the first to warn of the threat posed by The Unholy Alliance of Radical Islam and the American Left – the title of a book David wrote 24 years ago. If we had been joined by other conservatives in our campaigns to isolate the campus Jewish haters and refute the lies of the campus neo-Nazis, the campuses might have looked a lot different this month.

We warned about the escalating persecution of Jewish faculty and students., the complicity of jihadist professors at Columbia and Berkeley. We connected the dots and no one else would. And we did it all with little-to-no support and ridicule from the establishment because we were never afraid to call the enemy by its true name.

And we still aren’t.

That’s why we’re not letting up.

The Freedom Center has never relented in our struggle against the scourge of Jew Hatred and the neo-Nazi menace on campuses across our nation.

Our websites, FrontPageMag.com, FreedomCenteronCampus.org, DiscovertheNetworks.org and our deep writing team that includes David Horowitz, Robert Spencer, Daniel Greenfield, Jamie Glazov, Sara Dogan, Hugh Fitzgerald and many more have dedicated their lives to furthering education and exposure to this cancer spreading through Academia.

Our daily writing, campus campaigns, events and programs will continue to sound the alarm and we will continue to speak the truth, even if it makes others uncomfortable.  That is what we do. That is our mission.
