On Friday, December 29th, in coordination with the Middle East Forum, this author took a delegation of five leaders from the local community to meet with the General Manager of the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Coral Springs Hotel & Convention Center, Mark Cherry. It was our goal to convince Mr. Cherry to cancel a conference and bazaar the center was to host a couple weeks later (January 12-13), organized by the South Florida Muslim Federation (SFMF), an umbrella organization for South Florida’s many radical Muslim groups. With the help of a public outcry, our mission was a success.

We had several concerns about this conference taking place, starting with SFMF itself.

Right after the October 7 massacre of over 1200 Israelis perpetrated by Hamas – literally on the same day as the attack – SFMF asked its followers on social media to donate funds to Gaza via the US chapter of Islamic Relief, a group that has been banned by a number of nations. Israel has labeled Islamic Relief a front for Hamas and previously arrested its Gaza leader. And regarding its US chapter, IRUSA, its ex-Chairman Khaled Lamada tweeted that it is “absurd” to classify Hamas “as a terrorist organization” and used his social media to promote Hamas.

Islamic Relief was to be the main sponsor (“Premier Sponsor”) of the SFMF conference.

The President of SFMF is Samir Kakli. He took over the job from Nezar Hamze, a former representative for the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which is a member organization of SFMF.

In June 2020, Kakli promoted the Palestinian “Day of Rage,” large-scale protests that resulted in violence against Jews. In October 2020, he called for the release from prison of leaders of the Holy Land Foundation (HLF), who were convicted of raising millions of dollars for Hamas. In December 2022, he questioned Israel’s nationhood, posting on Facebook, “[T]heir ‘nation’ is built on lies and fantasy.”

SFMF and its leader Kakli have both promoted events run by Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), a group that was recently banned from operating in Florida universities for its declared alliance with Hamas. In May 2022, SFMF co-sponsored an anti-Israel rally with SJP. During the rally, Kakli and others called for Israel’s destruction with shouts of “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” and “Death to Israel.”

We also had concerns about many of the speakers for the SFMF conference.

One conference speaker, Naima Khan-Ghany, was recently removed from the two committees she served on in the Broward County School Board, as a result of her making numerous anti-Semitic posts on social media. One post referred to Jews as being “Satanic.”

Another speaker, social media influencer Yasemin Kanar, a.k.a. The Real Yaz, three days after October 7, stated, “[A]ll of Hollywood is run by Zionist Jews and promoting pedophilia.” Kanar, as well, praised Hamas. She further posted, on her Twitter account, a video claiming the documented rapes committed by Hamas are fake. And she posted a video of rabid anti-Semite Lucas Gage saying, “You guys don’t know what Jewish supremacists will do to push a narrative. They will lie. They are called the ‘Masters of Lies’ for a reason… [E]veryone’s starting to see it, maybe our ancestors are right, maybe antisemitism isn’t this irrational hatred.”

Yet another speaker, founder and Imam of the Darul Uloom Institute (DUI) Shafayat Mohamed, was thrown off several Broward County boards for his vile rhetoric against the LGBTQ community, including claiming that natural disasters are caused by gay sex.

Our meeting with Marriott GM Mark Cherry lasted just over an hour. For the meeting, my non-profit, the Joe Kaufman Security Initiative, had created a 30-page PowerPoint presentation to show to Mr. Cherry. It contained all of the evidence against SFMF and its event speakers – their extensive and documented support for Hamas and an extreme hostility of Jews that went way beyond hatred of Israel.

The PowerPoint began with a page containing graphic images from the October 7 atrocities – a rape victim and bloodied and burned bodies. We felt it necessary to display these images, in order to convey the barbaric cruelty which was being justified by the SFMF speakers.

Well into the meeting, Mr. Cherry informed us of the fact that SFMF had already used his facility a number of times in the past and that the contract for the upcoming conference had been signed a year in advance. He also indicated that he shared our concerns regarding the material we were presenting to him.

This author also provided information showing that other hotels, including Marriotts, had recently cancelled similar conferences, due to issues related to safety and security. Given the anti-Semitic atmosphere following October 7 and given the terrorist element shadowing the SFMF event, I suggested he consider doing the same.

Following our Marriott meeting, an article that I had written regarding the situation was published in the Middle East Forum’s Focus on Western Islamism, titled ‘Coral Springs Marriott Set to Host Florida Gathering of Hamas Sympathizers.’ The piece sparked a public outcry from the community. Phone calls were made, including by city officials, emails were sent, and petitions were signed in the thousands.

The result of all of this was the Coral Springs Marriott’s cancellation of the SFMF conference.

The threats posed by the individuals and groups involved in this conference must be considered detrimental to both the local community and national security interests, especially in light of the current elevated threat levels, both in the US and abroad. As FBI Director Christopher Wray stated to the House Committee on Homeland Security, this past November, “[W]e cannot – and do not – discount the possibility that Hamas or another foreign terrorist organization may exploit the current conflict to conduct attacks here, on our own soil.”

Mr. Cherry and, by extension, the Marriott Hotel administration, are to be commended for taking the courageous step of refusing to let their facilities be used by pro-Hamas individuals and groups to promote jihad and the hatred of Jews. By canceling the SFMF event, they have helped protect the community and shown themselves to be on the ‘right side of history.’

Mark Cherry and the Marriott Corporation deserve everyone’s thanks.

Senator Rand Paul has yet to announce who he will endorse for president. However, he stated that he will not be supporting Nikki Haley’s bid for the White House.

The Kentucky senator posted his thoughts on X on Friday, saying he likes various aspects President Trump, Governor DeSantis (R-Fla.), Vivek Ramaswamy and Independent candidate RFK Jr. have to offer.

Even though he didn’t make an endorsement, Paul (R-Ky.) did make the case for why he won’t be supporting Haley.

“I’m not yet ready to make a decision, but I am ready to make a decision on someone who I cannot support,” he said. “So, I’m announcing this morning that I’m Never Nikki.”

“I’ve also seen her indicate that she thinks you should be registered to use the Internet,” Paul continued. “That people posting ideas anonymously. I think she fails to understand that our Republic was founded upon people like Ben Franklin, Sam Adams, Madison, John Jay, and others, who posted routinely for fear of the government. They posted routinely, anonymously.”

Senator Paul believes that idea alone should disqualify her in the mind of all libertarian-leaning conservatives.

He continued to post on X, highlighting some of Haley’s record and rhetoric. He stated that she advocated for a gas tax, praised the United Nations and supported foreign aid, saying she has a “thirst for war.”

Paul concluded his message by directing the public to visit nevernikki.net

Hunter Biden’s Art Gallery Guy Finally Admits What We All Knew About Hunter’s Paintings

AP Photo/Julio Cortez
You may remember Georges Bergès. He’s the New York art gallery proprietor who has exhibited Hunter Biden’s paintings and insisted, with a straight face, that the Big Guy’s bag man is a genuine artist. Now, however, Bergès has admitted what the entire world knew all along: the whole Hunter-As-Picasso shtick was just another Biden influence-peddling scheme.

House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) interviewed Bergès and issued this statement on Tuesday:

The Biden White House appears to have deceived the American people about facilitating an ethics agreement governing the sale of Hunter Biden’s art. Hunter Biden’s gallerist never had any communication with the White House about such an agreement to make sure there was any sort of ethics compliance at all, and he provided information to the committee revealing how Hunter Biden’s amateur art career is an ethics nightmare. The vast majority of Hunter Biden’s art has been purchased by Democrat donors, one of whom was appointed by President Biden to a prestigious commission after she purchased Hunter Biden’s art for tens of thousands of dollars shortly after Joe Biden’s inauguration. The White House has a lot of explaining to do about misleading the American people.

Biden’s handlers are not the only ones who need to do some explaining. Bergès himself does as well. He famously said in February, “I know that there’s a lot of politics involved at the moment which is a shame because his work is not only good, it’s important. Hunter Biden will become one of the most consequential artists in this century because the world needs his art now more than ever.”

Consequential. Yeah, that’s undeniably true, but the consequential nature of Hunter Biden’s art may not lie within his paintings themselves but in the purposes for which they were created and sold. And sold they certainly did: this crackhead party boy who had shown no previous sign of having any interest in art, much less a talent for it, overnight became one of the hottest properties in the art world, with his paintings going for as much as $500,000 and generally selling for between $55,000 to $225,000 each.

In comparison, in 2021 a painting by Pablo Picasso sold for $150,000. To be sure, better-known Picasso paintings frequently sell for millions, but it was astonishing for Hunter Biden's paintings to be selling for prices that were remotely comparable to what was paid for anything that one of the great masters produced.

Yet despite Bergès’ admission to Comer, which essentially reveals that Hunter’s entire artistic career was just another money-making scheme for the Biden crime family, as of this writing on Wednesday morning, Hunter’s bio is still available in the “Our Artists” section of the George Bergès Gallery website. It’s as fanciful as the idea that Hunter is an artist worthy of note:

A lawyer by profession, Hunter Biden now devotes his energies to the creative arts, bringing innumerable experiences to bear. The results are powerful and impactful paintings ranging from photogenic to mixed media to the abstract. His chosen substrates are canvas, YUPO paper, wood, and metal on which he affixes oil, acrylic, ink along with the written word; all of which creates a unique experience that has become his signature.

In reality, Hunter’s paintings show so much stylistic divergence from one another that they raise questions about whether he has more than one ghost artist turning them out for him.

Whoever may be producing them, however, their purpose is now clear. Contradicting Biden regime claims that Hunter didn’t even know who was buying his paintings, much less that they were means of selling influence, Bergès “admitted Hunter Biden knew the identities of the individuals who purchased roughly 70% of the value of his art, including Democrat donors Kevin Morris and Elizabeth Hirsh Naftali.”

The House Oversight and Accountability Committee also revealed that Bergès “confirmed Hunter Biden’s name had influence on setting the price for his art.” The art gallery director has been rewarded for his faithful service: “Georges Bergès stated that he has talked on the phone and met in-person with Joe Biden, even attending the wedding the Bidens hosted at the White House."

With the entire charade of Hunter Biden’s art career, the Biden regime is playing the American people for fools. It isn’t the first time. It won’t be the last.

Inflation Surges Beyond Expectations, Undermining ‘Bidenomics’ Narrative

The Consumer Price Index report for December, released today, reveals an annual inflation increase of 3.4%, surpassing expectations. Core inflation, which factors in food and energy prices, rose by 3.9%. Ed Sidell, CEO and Chief Investment Advisor at EGSI Financial, discusses with OAN's Alicia Summers how the uptick in inflation challenges the mainstream narrative, suggesting that the fight against it is not as robust under 'Bidenomics.'

Afghanistan: Christian women forced to wear burqas

Islamic apologists in the West often insist that Sharia applies to Muslims only. But in Sharia states, again and again we see that this is not true.

“Christian Women Forced to Wear Islamic Dress in Afghanistan,” International Christian Concern, January 8, 2024:

01/08/2024 Afghanistan (International Christian Concern) — The Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has cracked down on women who fail to observe the strict dress code, starting last week. Dozens of women have been arrested in the streets of Kabul and taken to unknown locations. The spokesperson for the Ministry referred to this as “bad hijab” and warned women they would continue tracking down those in violation of the rule.

This development comes on top of a multitude of restrictions Afghan women and girls are already facing, including restrictions on education, work, travel, and even healthcare. To be a Christian woman in Afghanistan would almost certainly bring a death sentence.

The brutal control of the Taliban has infiltrated every part of Afghan society, down to what its citizens can eat and drink, listen to, and even so far as to what they can wear. Several months after the terrorist group regained control of the country in August 2021, Taliban officials issued a decree outlining a strict Islamic dress code for women, allowing them only to reveal their eyes in public. Not only is this a grave infringement on the rights of women and girls, but it forces Afghan Christians and other religious minorities to adhere to the Taliban’s strict interpretation of Sharia law.

The U.S. State Department estimates that the Christian population ranges from 500-8,000 individuals in Afghanistan. As the Taliban reimplements strict laws from its earlier rule in the late 1990s, Christians have gone into hiding or have been forcibly displaced into neighboring countries….

U.S. And U.K. Launch Retaliatory Airstrikes Against Houthis In Yemen

Huthi fighters brandish their weapons during a march in solidarity with the Palestinian people in the Huthi-controlled capital Sanaa on January 11, 2024, amid the ongoing battles between Israel and the terrorist Hamas group in Gaza. Heavy air strikes pounded rebel-held cities in Yemen early on January 12, 2024, the Huthi rebels’ official media and AFP correspondents said. The capital Sanaa, Hodeida and Saada were all targeted, the Huthis’ official media said, blaming “American aggression with British participation.” (Photo by MOHAMMED HUWAIS/AFP via Getty Images)

The United States and the United Kingdom launched a series of retaliatory attacks against the Houthi rebels in Yemen on Thursday.

Bombs from Washington, D.C., and London struck a number of locations in Yemen that the Houthis, who are supported by Iran, were utilizing.

According to surfacing reports, the main cities in Yemen that were hit the hardest with U.S. and U.K. airstrikes were Sana’a, Hodeidah, Saada, Dhamar, Taiz, and Zabid.

Fighter planes and warships firing Tomahawk missiles were fired by U.S. and U.K. planes striking targets that included air defense installations, supply centers, and logistical hubs, the Associated Press reported.

The rebel group started attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea in late November, prompting the U.S. and U.K. to take direct, aggressive military action against the Houthis.

The United States refrained from hitting the Houthis in Yemen until this Thursday.

In an effort to safeguard commercial shipping, the U.S. formed a multi-nation maritime task force last month. However, the Houthis continued their attacks on ships and declared that the task force would not stop them.

The Houthis launched their largest drone and missile campaign to date earlier this week, aiming their attacks against commercial ships along with American and British warships. During the strike, allied troops from the United States and the United Kingdom shot down around twenty-one missiles and drones.

The attack in Yemen poses a risk of escalating into a larger conflict and is expected to incite the Houthis and Iran. Since the Israel-Hamas war broke out in Gaza in early October, there has been a great deal of warfare throughout the region, with over 100 strikes against American soldiers in Syria and Iraq.

Groups with Iranian support assert that their attacks on the U.S. in the area are an act of solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza. Particularly, the Houthis maintain that U.S. and Israeli-backed ships are their targets.

Iran is expected to express outrage regarding the Yemen attacks that occurred on Thursday, as it considers the Houthis to be one of its most valuable proxy organizations in the Middle East. When the United States sank three Houthi vessels in the Red Sea at the end of December, Iran and the Houthis said they would retaliate violently.

There has been tremendous pressure on the Biden administration to stop the Houthi strikes in the Red Sea, which have hampered international trade. Major shipping firms have been compelled to detour around Africa and the Cape of Good Hope due to pressure from the Houthi group. Approximately 10% of commercial shipping passes via the Red Sea.

In addition, Washington, D.C., has had to decide whether to launch offensive operations in order to halt the Houthis or if the task force would be sufficient to safeguard cargo vessels and discourage the Houthis.

The extent to which the attacks have affected Houthi targets in Yemen is currently unknown. The rebel organization is well-versed in combat, having battled the Yemeni government for years, but they will most definitely still struggle from the joint effort by U.S. and U.K. military action.

After the strikes were conducted, Democrat Member of the House of the Representatives, Valerie Howell, released a statement declaring that the strikes were not authorized by Congress, and that the president needs to have congressional approval for any military strike.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
