Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has proposed that American military aid to Israel be cut off within five years, at which point he says it will no longer be needed, in view of the new treaties he claims he will conclude between Israel and its hostile neighbors.

In fact, the annual three billion dollars in American military aid now provided to Israel will be needed as long as the war waged against Israel by both states, including Iran, and by Palestinian terror groups in the West Bank and Gaza, continues. Israel does not shirk its own responsibilities, unlike NATO members who allow the US to carry most of the group’s financial burden. Israel spends far more, as a percentage of its GDP, than any other American ally. The members of NATO spend an average of 1.87% of GDP on defense; Israel spends on defense a minimum that is three times as high — 5.5% — as what the NATO countries, with the sole exception of the U.S., now spend. Indeed, in some years, the Jewish state has spent a far greater percentage of its GDP on defense (the highest figure was 30% in 1975). The Israelis, in other words, are not slackers in spending on defense. Threatened as the Jewish state has been, and will remain, as a target of jihad, Israel has earned the right to American military aid.

More of his thoughts on ending aid to Israel by 2028 can be found here: “Republican Jewish Group Pushes Back on Ramaswamy’s Stance Against Israel Aid,” by Alana Goodman, Washington Free Beacon, August 22, 2023:

“If we’re successful, the true mark of success for the U.S., and for Israel, will be to get to a 2028 where Israel is so strongly standing on its own two feet, integrated into the economic and security infrastructure of the rest of the Middle East, that it will not require and be dependent on that same level of historical aid or commitment from the U.S.,” Ramaswamy said.

What will keep the peace between Israel and the Arabs is not treaties, as Ramaswamy seems to think. It is, rather, deterrence. As long as Israel remains overwhelmingly, and obviously, stronger than any combination of its enemies, peace — that is, the absence of large-scale war — will continue. Israel would be foolish to entrust its security to treaties with Muslim Arabs. For Muslims, the exemplar of treaty-making is the agreement made by Muhammad with the Meccans at Hudaibiyya in 628 A.D. In that agreement, Muhammad entered into a “truce” treaty with the Meccans that was supposed to last for ten years. But after only 18 months, realizing that his forces had grown much stronger, Muhammad broke the treaty, attacked the Meccans, and successfully routed them. And that treaty-breaking has been the model ever since for Muslims: when making agreements with non-Muslims: whenever they feel “stronger,” they will do as Muhammad, the Model of Conduct and Perfect Man, did. They will ignore the treaty and attack the enemy. Is Vivek Ramaswamy familiar with the Treaty of Al-Hudaibiyya? He still has time to familiarize himself with that agreement, and the reason it was. breached, and why this matters so much today.

Israel is not just one more ally of the U.S., but its only sure military ally between Europe and India. It has been compared to a giant stationary aircraft carrier that America can count on, both as a place where, if need be, American planes could be positioned, and as a supplier of hundreds of advanced airplanes, UAVs, and other weapons that could be used if America called upon the Israeli military to assist it in the region, as for example, in an attack on Iran’s nuclear sites if the Islamic Republic appears to be only a few days away from manufacturing a bomb. Israel’s military also holds Hamas in check in Gaza and prevents the terror group, which is the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, from taking over the West Bank from the P.A. It also shares intelligence about the Brotherhood and other Islamic threats with the governments of Egypt, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. It is Israel that has kept Hezbollah within its lair in Lebanon, and Israeli threats of massive retaliation have so far prevented Hezbollah from launching any of its stockpile of 150,000 rockets into the Jewish state. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant recently warned that if Hezbollah attacks the northern Galilee, “we will return Lebanon to the stone age.” Despite his huffing and puffing, the braggart-warrior and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has done nothing more than plant two Hezbollah flags just inside the Lebanese-Israeli border, then removed one, and now has dared the Israelis to remove the other. Nasrallah, by the way, who boasts of what terrible things his group can do to Israel, still changes his residence every few days, so scared is he of being assassinated by Israel.

Among the Republican candidates for President whom you likely had not heard of until the recent debate in Milwaukee is the Indian-American Vivek Ramaswamy, a near-billionaire biotech entrepreneur and investor who has never held elective office. He has strong positions on domestic policy, but in foreign policy, he has focused almost entirely on reducing American dependence on China. He has expressed a desire to learn “the truth about 9/11,” which could indicate that he thinks there has been a cover-up, leading some to fear he is a conspiracy theorist. Though a Hindu, he has never shown the slightest interest in the history and present condition of Hindus in Southeast Asia, including the mass murder of 80 million Hindus by Muslims, nor in the continued aggression by Muslims against Hindus, both in Pakistan and Bangladesh and in India itself. He has had no comment, for example, on the Muslims who attacked and drove out 350,000 Hindus from Kashmir — the “Kashmiri pandits” — in recent decades.

Ramaswamy considers himself to be “pro-Israel.” He supports former President Trump’s moving of the American Embassy to Jerusalem. At Yale Law School, Ramaswamy belonged to Shabtai, which he has described as a “Jewish intellectual group.” On the other hand, he drew attention for criticizing a bill signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis that penalizes antisemitic harassment.

Ramaswamy has been in the news for proposing that American military aid to Israel be cut off within five years. He is not anti-Israel, he reminds his critics but thinks that by then Israel will no longer need such aid because it will have integrated into the region. “6 Jewish facts about GOP hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy, who proposes cut to Israel funding,” by Andrew Lapin, Times of Israel, August 23, 2023:

In June, while campaigning in New Hampshire, Ramaswamy suggested that he would be open to ending aid to Israel as “part of a broader disengagement with the Middle East.” He later walked back those comments. But last week, he told actor and podcaster Russell Brand that he does, in fact, want to end US aid to Israel in 2028, the year when the current US commitment to provide $3.8 billion annually to Israel expires.

Ramaswamy said that decision would come as Israel receives recognition from more countries in the Middle East. Israel has signed normalization deals with several states in the region in recent years, a framework called the Abraham Accords, and is now pursuing a treaty with Saudi Arabia. Ramaswamy told the Jewish News Syndicate that he’d also like to spearhead Israeli accords with Indonesia and Oman.

Come 2028, that additional aid won’t be necessary in order to still have the kind of stability that we’d actually have in the Middle East by having Israel more integrated in with its partners,” he said on a show Brand hosts on the video platform Rumble.

More of his thoughts on ending aid to Israel by 2028 can be found here: “Republican Jewish Group Pushes Back on Ramaswamy’s Stance Against Israel Aid,” by Alana Goodman, Washington Free Beacon, August 22, 2023:

Republican Jewish leaders pushed back on Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s proposal to cut off military aid to Israel within five years, arguing that “such a move would very decidedly not be in America’s best interest.”

Matthew Brooks, the CEO of the Republican Jewish Coalition, in a letter on Monday praised Ramaswamy as a “strong and passionate supporter of Israel” but urged him to rethink his stance against U.S. military aid to the Jewish state.

In light of your overall support for a strong U.S.-Israel alliance, I believe that a closer look at the issue of U.S. aid will convince you that now is not the time to end an aid program that provides so much benefit to our nation, strengthens our key strategic ally Israel, and contributes to the stability of the Middle East,” Brooks wrote.

The letter comes as Ramaswamy has climbed in the polls, prompting new scrutiny on his foreign policy positions….Ramaswamy reiterated his position to the Washington Free Beacon, arguing that the aid will be unnecessary after he successfully negotiates new peace treaties between Israel and its Arab neighbors during the first year of his presidency.

Ramaswamy’s success as a businessman has gone to his head. Now he is putting himself forward as a wonderworker, able to “successfully negotiate new peace treaties between Israel and its Arab neighbors.” Presumably, he also means bringing about a permanent “peace” between Israel and the Palestinians. How does he propose to end the Palestinian jihad against the Jewish state? And when he talks about how he will negotiate “new peace treaties between Israel and its Arab neighbors,” what does he mean? Israel already has peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan. But there is no chance that Syria will ever sign a peace treaty with Israel, a country that it has been at war with since 1948, especially since the Golan Heights were annexed as part of Israel in 1981. And if in 2028, Lebanon is still under the control of the Iran-backed Hezbollah, it will not agree to a peace treaty with the Jewish state. Nor will Iraq, where Iran-backed militias now dominate the country, be willing to “normalize ties” with Israel and sign a peace treaty. Ramaswamy, a self-made billionaire, has convinced himself that he is uniquely qualified to achieve an Israel-Arab peace, thereby obviating the need for American military aid to Israel.

President Joe Biden said on Friday that he plans to request more funding from Congress in order to develop a new COVID vaccine.

Biden says he just "signed off" on a funding request for "a new [COVID] vaccine is necessary that works," pic.twitter.com/PNhyFlwFrt

“I signed off this morning on a proposal we have to present to the Congress a request for additional funding for a new vaccine that is necessary, that works,” Biden told reporters while vacationing in Lake Tahoe. “It will likely be recommended that everybody get it no matter whether they’ve gotten it before or not.”

The announcement comes after reports of a recent rise in COVID-19 cases in some regions of the country. Due to the recent reports of a rise in hospitalizations, mask mandates are also slowly being reintroduced by some organizations, such as LionsGate studios.

Updated versions of the vaccine which contain the newer version of the virus are already being developed by Pfizer, Novavx, and Moderna. Officials claim that due to the mutating nature of the virus, the vaccine needs to constantly be updated.

The supplemental funding that the Biden administration recently presented to Congress did not include any funding for COVID-19 vaccines. Instead, the request asked for around $40 billion for short-term “key priorities” such as more aid for Ukraine, federal disaster funds, climate change, and a minimal amount for border security.

In the fall of 2022, Biden had also asked for around $9 billion from Congress for funding for the virus, but the request was denied by Congress at the time.

Coalition of FFLs Sue Over Biden’s “Zero Tolarance” Policy

SEE: https://www.ammoland.com/2023/08/coalition-of-ffls-sue-over-bidens-zero-tolarance-policy/;Republished below in full unedited for informational, educational, & research purposes.

In recent months, the Second Amendment community has faced unprecedented challenges in the wake of President Biden’s attack on gun rights. One of the most contentious issues has been implementing the “zero tolerance” policy for gun dealers by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). As staunch defenders of the Second Amendment, a coalition of Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) has stepped up to contest what they view as an overreach of government authority. The alliance is led by Eric Blandford, who runs the successful YouTube channel Iraqveteran8888.

“Selling firearms is a perfectly normal business venture, and nobody should have to fear losing their entire life savings over a typo,” Blandford told AmmoLand News.

The announcement was announced on the popular YouTuber’s channel. He was joined in the video by Senior Vice President of GOA, Erich Pratt.

The Biden administration’s “zero tolerance” policy for gun dealers has drawn significant criticism from pro-gun advocates, including FFLs.

President Biden claims that the policy aims to crack down on alleged violations of federal gun laws by firearm dealers. The coalition of FFLs claims the ATF is taking an over-aggressive stance on even minor clerical errors. The members point to the ATF punishing law-abiding FFLs for trivial mistakes and administrative errors leading to the revocation of FFLs. Under the policy, the revocation of FFLs is at a 17-year high.

The FFL coalition argues that the ATF’s “zero tolerance” approach undermines the due process rights of FFLs and could potentially lead to the unjust revocation of licenses. Instead of focusing on rooting out actual criminals, this policy places undue burdens on small business owners who strive to adhere to complex and often confusing regulations. There is also evidence that the ATF is using the revocation process as retaliation against FFLs that sue the Bureau. Moorehouse Enterprises is one of the alleged victims of ATF reprisal. The gun store sued the ATF over the new rule on frames and receivers. After the lawsuit was launched, a local Industry Operations Inspector (IOI) examined the company’s books and found a few errors. Even though the IOI was positive about the inspection, the small local business received a revocation letter. The gun store has now launched a second lawsuit contesting the revocation with the help of Gun Owners of America (GOA).

The legal battle launched by the FFL coalition centers on upholding the principles of due process and fair treatment under the law.

Pro-gun advocates argue that treating minor administrative mistakes with the same severity as deliberate violations disproportionately punishes FFLs who are attempting to comply with an elaborate set of regulations.

The coalition believes that this overzealous approach by the ATF could have far-reaching implications, not only for FFLs but for the broader Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. By contesting the ATF’s “zero tolerance” policy, the coalition seeks to protect not only their livelihoods but also the rights of responsible gun owners across the nation.

The ongoing legal battle between gun stores and the ATF represents a pivotal moment for Second Amendment rights in the United States. The FFL coalition’s efforts are a testament to the enduring commitment of Americans to safeguard their constitutional rights.

The spacecraft launched off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 3:27 AM local time. The crew is now headed to the International Space Station (ISS) to relieve the crew that has been onboard since March.

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said that the crew will be conducting experiments to prepare for future missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

“Aboard station,” Nelson said. “The crew will conduct more than 200 science experiments and technology demonstrations to prepare for missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. All while benefitting humanity on Earth.”

According to NASA, the experiments that will be conducted onboard the ISS will include “the collection of microbial samples from the exterior of the space station, the first study of human response to different spaceflight durations, and an investigation of the physiological aspects of astronauts’ sleep.”

The new mission will enable NASA to maximize the use of the ISS and pave the way for further exploration into space.

The launch also featured a new 160-foot Falcon 9 first-stage booster that supported the spacecraft in its launch. Following stage separation, the booster touched back down at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, showcasing SpaceX’s ability to maximize and reuse its launch vehicles.

The crew headed to the ISS includes NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli, European Space Agency astronaut Andreas Mogensen, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Satoshi Furukawa, and Roscomos cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov.

“Crew-7 is a shining example of the power of both American ingenuity and what we can accomplish when we work together,” Nelson said. “By partnering with countries around the world, NASA is engaging the best scientific minds to enable our bold missions, and it’s clear that we can do more – and we can learn more – when we work together.”

The launch is the eighth launch that has been carried out by SpaceX in conjunction with NASA, and it also marks SpaceX’s 11th human spaceflight.

A Mother’s Heartbreaking Tale of Losing Her Son in the Maui Fires

A Mother's Heartbreaking Tale of Losing Her Son in the Maui Fires
(Matthew Thayer/The Maui News via AP)
The people of Maui have been through a disaster of biblical proportions as wildfires swept the area earlier this month, leaving a path of destruction so vast that it left hundreds of people dead, thousands missing, and even more without homes. To make matters worse, it appears that an incompetent government may have actually added to the misery they have experienced. Somehow, that always seems to be the case, doesn’t it?

Both PJ Media’s Lincoln Brown and The Blaze reported that left-wing politics may have played a part in setting Maui up to burn to ashes, along with the delayed distribution of water the area needed badly. Guys, this is going to make you absolutely livid, so, if you have high blood pressure, you might want to do a little deep breathing and meditation before continuing on because this is horrendous.

The reports state that Herman Andaya, the administrator of the Maui Emergency Management Agency — who has since stepped down from his post — did not trust the public to react in a civilized, orderly manner, so he opted to not sound the alarm as the wildfires began to decimate the city of Lahaina. It doesn’t matter how you might think people will react; sound the alarm. That was literally his main job. His failure to execute his job duties is responsible for some of the loss of life that occurred during this tragedy.

It actually gets worse from here. Other officials for the city had been warned for years now that Lahaina is a high risk for wildfires, but they did nothing to work on implementing some sort of system that would help prevent such a disaster, including a lack of practiced escape plans and no early evacuations.

The Blaze goes on to point out that a large portion of the survivors were individuals who ignored orders issued by the government and state authorities. One mother who put her trust in those authorities to help the citizens of Lahaina has learned the hard way that her belief in the rightness of the government’s orders was misplaced.

Here’s more from a CBS report:

Luz Vargas ran a cleaning service in Lahaina and was working the day her town was reduced to ash and ruin. Her adopted son, Keyiro Fuentes, who would have turned 15 on Sunday, was five miles away at home, enjoying the last day of his summer vacation.

CBS News reported that when Vargas and her husband, Andres, learned about the threat of the fires, they jumped in the car and desperately tried to race home to their son.

Vargas told the media that she was told not to go and responded by only uttering two words: “My son.” She was in a race against time to reach her boy but encountered severe gridlock. They decided to leave the vehicle and try to get there on foot. Unfortunately, they were stopped by yet another obstacle in the form of a police barricade.

Related: State-Level Incompetence Made the Maui Fires Possible

National Public Radio reported that local law enforcement officers were preventing people from going back toward where the fires were raging.

“I told them my son is still in our house. I said he’s at this house on this street,” Vargas recounted in the conversation she had with CBS News, pointing out there was a language barrier making things even more difficult.

Vargas then revealed she managed to get by police, her flip-flops melting from the intensity of the heat, where a man on a motorcycle took her toward the fires where her son was located. However, when she attempted to enter the fire zone, she was stopped by first responders who told her they had already cleared the area and there was no one left, encouraging her to “have faith” that her son had escaped the blaze.

She and her husband, having been assured that the boy had escaped from the area, waited for him to show up at Honokowai Beach, regularly checking with authorities to see if he had arrived while also calling around the area. Two days later, Vargas made her way home, where she found out the area had, in fact, not been cleared, and one person remained.

Vargas found her son’s body in his bedroom, his arms wrapped around his dog. It just does not get more tragic than this. What’s to blame for her loss? Government ineptness. It’s infuriating.

“He was not as I expected, in ashes. God maintained him like this. So we knew it was him,” Vargas stated, revealing she prayed over her dead son’s body, “Please God, hold him for me.”

The child’s body was wrapped up in a blanket and carried half a mile to a police station. The victim’s brother, Josue, who also spoke with CBS News, said, “He was too young. If we still had time, I know he would have been a very, very, very good man.”

A report by the Associated Press revealed that the same barricades that slowed down Vargas also caused other residents of the area to actually lose their lives in the fires that tore their community apart.

West Maui residents attempting to flee the fires attempted to exit via the only paved road out of town, but authorities had reportedly set up a barricade, barring access to Highway 30. As a result, numerous cars were sent back into the flames, resulting in a number of people perishing in their vehicles.

Those who disregarded the barricade managed to survive, including one family who ignored the barricade and drove around it. Having ignored the instruction of authorities, the family ended up safe and secure in a nearby town 48 minutes later, reported the Associated Press.

Much of the loss of life could have been prevented had the alarm been sounded and proper precautions taken long before the wildfires broke out. Authorities knew it was a big risk for their town, yet they did nothing to ensure the safety of residents. There needs to be consequences for this level of incompetence.

Justice Department Sues Elon Musk For Not Hiring Legal Immigrants

Justice Department Sues Elon Musk for Not Hiring Illegal Immigrants and Asylum Seekers

Justice Department Sues Elon Musk for Not Hiring Illegal Immigrants and Asylum Seekers
(AP Photo/Chris Carlson, File)
Elon Musk’s company Space X has been sued by the Justice Department because the billionaire refused to hire asylum seekers and illegal immigrants.

“The lawsuit alleges that, from at least September 2018 to May 2022, SpaceX routinely discouraged asylees and refugees from applying and refused to hire or consider them, because of their citizenship status, in violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act,” the Justice Department said in a statement.

DoJ says that Space X wrongly claimed in its advertisements and online postings that the company could only hire U.S. citizens and green card holders because of export control laws.

The lawsuit pointed to a Twitter post by Musk claiming that “U.S. law requires at least a green card to be hired at SpaceX, as rockets are advanced weapons technology.”

Musk is accusing DoJ and by extension, the Biden administration of the “weaponization of the DOJ for political purposes.”

Reuters:

In a post on X, the SpaceX CEO said the company “was told repeatedly that hiring anyone who was not a permanent resident of the United States would violate international arms trafficking law, which would be a criminal offense.”

U.S. Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s civil rights division said a DOJ investigation found that SpaceX “failed to fairly consider or hire asylees and refugees because of their citizenship status and imposed what amounted to a ban on their hire regardless of their qualification, in violation of federal law”.

Clarke also said SpaceX recruiters and high-level officials “actively discouraged” asylum recipients and refugees from seeking work opportunities at the company.

DoJ wants back wages and fair consideration for asylum recipients and refugees who were denied employment at Space X. The would be a fairly large number because any immigrant or asylum seeker who applied for a position at Space X would be in line to receive compensation.

Politico:

According to the complaint, Musk also said in a video from an international space conference in 2016 that “unless [you] can somehow get a green card, we are legally prevented from hiring anyone.”

The Justice Department is asking an administrative law judge to order SpaceX to stop the allegedly illegal hiring practice, pay an unspecified civil penalty, consider hiring applicants and potential applicants impacted by the policy and provide back pay to those affected.

The complaint notes that SpaceX hired for numerous positions with no connection to sensitive technology, like cooks, dishwashers and baristas. It’s unclear whether the Justice Department is claiming the firm turned away applicants for such jobs because they didn’t have a green card — the permit the U.S. government issues to lawful permanent residents.

The bottom line is that Musk and Space X believed they were acting in accordance with the law, and the government now says — four years after the fact — that they weren’t.

It would seem that the Biden administration wants to set an example for large companies that aren’t hiring enough immigrants and asylum seekers.

The United States Justice Department (DOJ) has sued SpaceX over allegations of discriminating against asylum recipients and refugees during their hiring process.

On Thursday, the Justice Department released a statement regarding the lawsuit against the rocket and satellite company owned by Elon Musk.

“The lawsuit alleges that, from at least September 2018 to May 2022, SpaceX routinely discouraged asylees and refugees from applying and refused to hire or consider them, because of their citizenship status, in violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act,” the Justice Department said.

The DOJ reportedly cited online postings and statements by Musk and other SpaceX executives and recruiters that allegedly discouraged refugees and those granted asylum from applying for jobs at SpaceX by claiming the company can only hire U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents and alleged that refugees that did apply were ignored.

According to the lawsuit, a June 2020 post on X by CEO Musk has been cited which said that “U.S. law requires at least a green card to be hired at SpaceX, as rockets are advanced weapons technology.”

SpaceX argued that the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulation prohibited the company from hiring non-citizens. However, according to the lawsuit, the Justice Department stated that those pieces of legislation treat refugees and those who have been granted asylum “just like U.S. citizens.”

Immigration Attorney Jonathan Grode claimed that companies like SpaceX are not prohibited from hiring foreign nationals. However, he said that they do have to seek certain visas for refugees or obtain government approval when it comes to ITAR restrictions.

Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke, who is part of the Justice Department’s civil rights division, said a DOJ investigation found that SpaceX “failed to fairly consider or hire asylees and refugees because of their citizenship status and imposed what amounted to a ban on their hire regardless of their qualification, in violation of federal law”.

Clarke continued by stating that SpaceX recruiters and high-level managers “actively discouraged” asylum seekers and refugees from applying for jobs at the corporation.

The lawsuit also seeks monetary penalties, which the court will determine how much, to guarantee that SpaceX continues to comply with the federal non-discrimination rule.
