Norfolk Southern Corp. officials yesterday rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange to mark 40 years since the merger of Norfolk and Western Railway and Southern Railway created Norfolk Southern Railway on June 1, 1982.

Joining NS President and CEO Alan Shaw and the NS senior executive team on the NYSE bell podium were six craft railroaders from the company’s operating division.

Raquel Evita Saraswati knows how to play the game, right down to her name itself, with its pleasing multiethnic mélange and artful evocation of Leftist icon Evita Perón. The American Friends Service Committee, a hard-Left organization peddling authoritarianism and dependence upon the all-powerful state under the guise of “social justice,” was likely thrilled when Saraswati applied to be its Chief Equity, Inclusion, and Culture Officer. But then matters took a dark turn, or more precisely, a light turn.

A member of the search committee that ended up hiring Saraswati at the Friends Committee, Oskar Pierre Castro, recounts that during the interview process, Saraswati had represented herself as a “queer, Muslim, multiethnic woman.” With this trifecta of wokeness and victimhood, Saraswati couldn’t miss, and of course, she got the job. “It really touched all the points,” Castro remarked of Saraswati’s background. But now it has come to light that contrary to her claims, she is infected with the Left’s original sin: Raquel Evita Saraswati was born Rachel Elizabeth Seidel, and is as white as the native population of Switzerland.

The revelation of Saraswati’s true ethnicity has been like sandpaper upon the hitherto smooth, complacently Leftist surface of the American Friends Service Committee, with these people of love and tolerance now eyeing one another suspiciously over their tofu and soybean salads: now the organization’s other employees are afraid that they’ve been infiltrated. According to a Thursday report in The Intercept, the fact that their hijab-wearing multiethnic Muslima has turned out to be white has led some inside the Friends Committee to suspect that she is “working on behalf of groups seeking to undermine their organization.” After all, her position “gives her access to the files of dozens of the organization’s staff and volunteers.”

Of course! Why else would Saraswati have lied about her background? It couldn’t be because being white has been so demonized and stigmatized on the Left that all manner of white folks, from Elizabeth Warren to Shaun King to Hilaria Baldwin to Linda Sarsour, are claiming not to be “people of color,” could it? Nah, that couldn’t be it. Saraswati must be a double agent! She must be secretly working for some white supremacist group, right?

Saraswati, according to The Intercept, “for years has encouraged people to believe that she is a woman of color, including Latina as well as of South Asian and Arab descent.” But Raquel/Rachel’s mom, Carol Perone, was unequivocal: “I call her Rachel. I don’t know why she’s doing what she’s doing.” Perone added: “I’m German and British, and her father was Calabrese Italian. She’s chosen to live a lie, and I find that very, very sad.” Indeed. Welcome to the twenty-first century, when happening to be non-white is a badge of honor and whiteness is regarded as it would be if the entire nation had joined the Nation of Islam in thinking that all evil stems from the white race, an intrinsically evil people that was created in the mythic past by an evil scientist, Dr. Yaqub, on the island of Madagascar.

Mama Perone continued: “I’m as white as the driven snow and so is she.” Perone even showed The Intercept childhood photos of Rachel; they showed the future queer, multiethnic Muslima to have a “complexion is significantly lighter than the bronzed look in more recent photographs.” The one thing that appears genuine about Raquel Evita Saraswati is that her mother confirmed that her daughter converted to Islam while in high school.

Now Oskar Pierre Castro feels cheated: “In my mind, it was, ‘Great, a person of color, a queer person of color, who happens to be a Muslim, it’s a woman, all these things, and someone who seemed to get it. I definitely feel conned… I feel deceived.” Well, sure. But it is certain that neither Oskar Pierre Castro nor anyone else involved with the American Friends Service Committee will pause to consider what they themselves did to create people such as Raquel Evita Saraswati. When the Left started exalting “people of color,” Muslims, and homosexuals as people of superior nobility and insight, did it never occur even to a single Leftist that one day, someone would come to them deceptively claiming to be a homosexual Muslim person of color?

Raquel Saraswati apparently really is “queer” and Muslim, although her affectation of the hijab suggests that she adheres to a moral code that would have her executed for homosexual activity. And of course, she certainly isn’t a person of color. The contradictions and absurdities in her story should have raised eyebrows among the American Friends Service Committee. But her story was just too good, so good as to be irresistible. Now, despite the fact that the truth has come out about her, one thing is certain: among Leftists, no lessons will be learned.

The Democrat campaign to import a massive new uneducated servant class that will vote them into power in perpetuity is proceeding apace. In today’s chapter, we learn that yet another tranche of illegal alien minors has been pressed into child labor in U.S. factories. NBC News had part of the story on Friday:

The Labor Department said Friday it found 102 children as young as 13 working hazardous overnight jobs cleaning slaughterhouses in eight states in what it called a “corporate-wide failure” by one of the largest food sanitation companies in the country, Packers Sanitation Services Inc. …The Labor Department says the children who were working overnight shifts used “caustic chemicals to clean razor-sharp saws.” The company employs 17,000 workers at 700 sites nationwide.

I say “part of the story,” because there was one important detail left out of the report: where the heck these kids came from? But it was easy enough to figure out. American-born children generally have parents present who look after them. Those whose parents die or fail on the job are placed into the state’s custody. And while that has its own set of problems, foster parents get paid for keeping the kids under their roof, so they don’t generally farm them out to factory duty. So where do unethical businesses turn when they want oversight-free indentured children? Why, Biden’s open border, of course!

The U.S. Dept. of Labor has been investigating the Packers Sanitation Services, Inc. case since late last fall (at least). After the situation was revealed, the Dept. of Homeland Security belatedly hopped in to investigate whether these kids had been trafficked.

Spoiler alert: of course they had. How else did they get there? But when you are part of the very system that does the trafficking (as DHS is, with its repurposed Customs and Border Protection agency), you’re likely not going to see the forest for the trees. NBC reported a month ago:

In court filings, the company did not deny hiring children but attributed it to “rogue individuals” who presented fake identification with Social Security numbers that were verified by the federal government’s E-Verify system.

Ah, yes — those “rogue individuals” are the bad guys. Not the DHS who picks up these kids from their coyotes, to whom the children are now indebted, and processes (or simply releases) them into the country. I wonder if the minors arrived in the Midwest on one of Biden’s “ghost flights” or if they took a publicly-funded bus? But by all means, let’s get those “rogue individuals!”

Last December, I wrote about the illegal alien minors who were laboring away in auto parts factories and poultry processing plants in the country’s interior. I’ve also explored how Biden’s human trafficking victims end up in positions of sexual slavery. I explained how it works in another article:

Slavery’s sister, indenture, works by signing desperate people onto debt they can never pay off, thus conscripting them to a life of service and obedience to their “benefactor.” For example, in the United States, both historically and today, immigrants are imported into the country in exchange for a crushing fee, indebting them to their patron or smuggler, as the case may be. In the past, as today, immigrants paid off their debt either by handing over their meager wages or with outright bodily slavery via drudgery or sexual trafficking.

It’s sickening that Americans are forced to support this appalling system with our tax dollars. The greatest service our newly Republican House of Representatives can perform is to shut down any and all funding for this despicable machine.

Biotechnology company Novavax announced that it has made a modification to an existing contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Defense (DoD) to provide up to 1.5 million more doses of its Nuvaxovid COVID-19 vaccine (also known as “NVX-CoV2373” and “Covovax”), in addition to the 3.2 million doses of the shot sold to the government last year.

The modification stipulates that the government will increase public access to the vaccine and support the development of smaller dose vials, strain selection consistent with recommendations by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and an orderly transition for distribution to the commercial market.¹

John C. Jacobs, president, and CEO of Novavax, said:

This agreement acknowledges the need to offer the American people a diverse COVID-19 vaccine portfolio and underscores the importance of Novavax’ partnership with the U.S. government to ensure continuous access to a protein-based option as part of public health measures.²

Nuvaxovid has not been officially licensed by the FDA but has been granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by the agency for distribution to individuals 12 years of age and older.³

Nuvaxovid is a protein subunit COVID vaccine containing the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and an adjuvant known as Matrix-M composed of saponin extracts, phospholipids, and cholesterol, which is designed to trigger a very strong immune response.⁴ The spike protein in this vaccine is produced in baculovirus insect cells. The Matrix M-adjuvant contains saponin extracts from the bark of the Soapbark tree that is native to Chile.⁵ ⁶

U.S. Public Health Officials Hope Novavax’s Vaccine Will Appeal to Americans Worried About mRNA Shots

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted an opt-in Internet survey of 1,200 COVID–vaccinated adults to assess the reasons for receiving or not receiving Pfizer/BioNTech’s Comirnaty messenger RNA (mRNA) bivalent COVID booster shot. The results showed that 22.7 percent of respondents said that they had chosen not to get the mRNA booster due to concerns about adverse reactions. This concern was more prevalent among those who were over 60 years old.⁷

Guy Palmer, Ph.D., a professor of pathology and infectious diseases at Washington State University, said he believed that Nuvaxovid could appeal to Americans who are concerned about the safety of mRNA shots. “There’s a slight open door there for a non-mRNA vaccine like Novavax.” Dr. Palmer said.

Robert Schooley, MD, an infectious disease specialist at UC San Diego Health, noted:

Novavax essentially uses the same approach as mRNA vaccines, but they make the protein in a factory. So they’re giving you the protein itself, rather than instructions for your cells to make a protein.⁸

The Nuxaxovid vaccine has been shown to cause severe adverse reactions in Phase 1 part of a Phase 1/2 human clinical trials.⁹ Cases of myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) or pericarditis (inflammation of the membrane around the heart) were detected in Novavax clinical trials.¹⁰

How far is this madness going to go? It started with the increasingly common assumption that newborn babies are “assigned” a gender at birth as if doing so were an arbitrary bureaucratic process that could often be erroneous. Now the Pennsylvania state Office of Child Development and Early Learning is going even further, requiring social workers to report on the gender identity of newborns: forms now ask whether the baby is Male, Female, or “Gender Non-Binary.” How on God’s weary earth is a social worker supposed to be able to tell whether or not a tiny just-born baby is a budding Rachel Levine? The Pennsylvania Office of Child Development and Early Learning did not deign to explain that little detail.

This outrageously woke nest of Leftist bureaucrats, which, according to a Friday report in the Washington Free Beacon, “funds health and social programs for young children,” has scrapped that tired old male/female sex distinction. Among the information, it now requires on its data collection forms about newborn babies and their “caregivers” is the “gender” of both the caregivers and the child, and it offers the possibility of marking the child as “Gender Non-Binary.”

Asking about this for those who are taking care of the child is one thing, but for the infant himself or herself or itself? That is indeed the requirement, as one Pennsylvania social worker explained: “I have to ask clients, ‘Is your 10-day-old male, female, or nonbinary?'” Residually recognizing how ridiculous this woke fantasy must appear to still-normal people, Ali Fogarty, the communications director for Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services, of which the Office of Child Development is a part, denied what is as plain as the nose on your face: “This is a field for data collection,” Fogarty insisted. “There is no directive or expectation that parents be verbally or explicitly asked if their children are nonbinary.”

Fogarty was being a bit Bidenesque here, that is, not exactly honest, for the form itself, which is headed “Office of Child Development and Early Learning/Family Supports/Family Support Program Data System/Data Collection Forms,” couldn’t be clearer. Under the heading “Child’s Gender,” it offers three choices, and three choices only: Male, Female, and “Gender Non-Binary (includes enrolled participants who do not identify as either male or female, which may include participants who identify as gender non-binary and/or genderqueer).”

How does one tell if a newborn infant is “Gender Non-Binary”? Is the hapless newborn supposed to reach out and grasp the rainbow flag, or that weird blue-and-pink trans one? Are females (yes) supposed to show a predilection for cigar-smoking and bowling night out with the boys? Are baby boys (again, no apologies) supposed to express a desire to become champion swimmers even if their abilities in the pool are only mediocre? How is all this supposed to be communicated?

This form makes it abundantly clear that this whole gender madness is based on superstition and hysteria, and not on “The Science” that the Left professes to revere. In addition to that, the form is also nothing less than a recruitment tool. Why, yes, heavens to Betsy, we must avoid that at all costs. Destroying children physically and emotionally, mutilating their bodies, and making adolescent confusion about their identity into a lifelong affliction — all that is not only fine, but it’s also cutting-edge wokeness. But “misgendering” the hacked-to-pieces and stitched-together victims of this monstrous lie and deception? That’s the real evil, according to Pennsylvania’s monstrous Office of Child Development.

“It can be offensive or harassing to guess at someone’s pronouns,” the website says. “These assumptions aren’t always correct,” and the act of making them “sends a potentially harmful message—that people have to look a certain way to demonstrate the gender that they are or are not.”
