Of course, even though America can no longer feed its babies, the American empire is fully able to deliver deadly “vaccine” injections that cause infertility and death. There never seems to be a shortage of anything that might kill you. But when it comes to feeding babies, the USA falls flat.
While US bureaucrats claim to want to help the world experience less WAR and more FOOD security, they pass $40 billion to buy weapons of WAR while blocking Russia from selling wheat for FOOD. So wait… if you want less war and more food, why are you spending money on war and blocking the trade of food?

The free market can solve this problem. But the free market isn’t allowed to operate. Instead, we get FDA-protected infant formula corporate cartels and market monopolies that are highly vulnerable to failure. This is a microcosm of what we’re about to see across the economy on a much larger scale as western civilization rapidly unravels.
It seems to be no coincidence that Biden and the Democrats are also celebrating the mass murder of babies under the label of “abortion.” These Satan-worshiping creatures have no compassion for human life, and they despise babies being born alive and demanding resources such as food.
When Biden and the Dems claim to want to provide food for babies, they’re merely
pretending to have human compassion. They would actually rather these babies never be born. The Great Replacement strategy is, after all, quite real. Americans are supposed to die (or never be born) and then get replaced with migrants across the wide-open border. And for those babies who actually survive birth, they face starvation or having their genitals cut off under the fraud of transgenderism that’s also pushed by the child groomers and abusers of the progressive Left.

A Navy administrative separation board voted unanimously last Friday that Navy Lieutenant Billy Moseley did not violate the command that he take the Covid vaccine. He refused the order, but rather than file a religious exemption request, he went straight to the board for its decision. Moseley knew that under orders from the Secretary of Defense the branches of the military weren’t allowing religious exemptions to be granted.
Moseley, a 22-year Naval officer, risked everything in taking his case to the board. But his religious convictions prevailed. As his attorney, Davis Younts, explained:
LT Moseley opposes the vaccine for religious reasons and could have submitted a religious accommodation request. However, when he learned that the Navy and the other services intended to implement a blanket denial policy, he began to prayerfully consider other options.
After consulting with legal and medical experts, he became convinced that as an officer he had an obligation to take a stand against the unlawful order and be a voice for thousands of enlisted Sailors.
LT Moseley risked his twenty-two-year career and his military retirement because of his faith and his commitment to his oath of office as a military leader.
Younts successfully argued before the board that “the order for military members to receive the experimental COVID 19 injection was not a lawful order.”
Under orders from U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, the branches of the military began dismissing those requesting a religious exemption. According to the Military Times, by the end of April, the Marine Corps had dismissed 1,968 corpsmen, the Navy had dismissed 798 sailors, the Army had dismissed 345 soldiers, and the Air Force had dismissed 287 airmen.
Others chose to apply for religious exemptions, and when they were denied, some went to court. Court rulings in February revealed the blatant anti-religious and anti-Christian bias of Austin’s order.
Steven Merryday, U.S. District Judge for the Middle District of Florida, heard a lawsuit from 23 such service members and, after hearing of the blatant religious discrimination being practiced in the blanket denials, wrote:
The plaintiffs claim the regulations … in reality disguise an unlawful and pervasive policy of the Secretary of Defense and each branch of the armed forces to deny individual consideration of each claim for a religious exemption, to instead “deny them all,” and to punish, possibly by discharge, without exemption or accommodation, those who assert a sincere religious objection and accordingly refuse the vaccine.
Two weeks later, Tilman Self, a judge on the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, found the same pattern of discrimination. He heard the complaint from an Air Force member who had not only been denied a religious exemption but had been harassed and punished for even making the request and wrote:
Although the Air Force claims to provide a religious accommodation process, it proved to be nothing more than a quixotic quest for Plaintiff because it was [quoting from another judge’s ruling on the same issue] “by all accounts … theater.”…
Despite thousands of requests for religious exemption, the Air Force hadn’t granted a single one of them when Plaintiff filed her Complaint.
Since then, the military branches have been very slow in granting religious exemptions in spite of the rulings. As of April 27, the Air Force had granted only nine exemptions, the Marine Corps just three, and the Army but one.
However, Moseley’s attorney is optimistic as other cases that he and other attorneys are handling are being heard across the country, putting additional pressure on Austin. As Younts wrote:
Although this [is] only one case of thousands and we have many more clients facing prosecution by the military, we are encouraged that the truth was revealed in this Board, and we hope this ground-breaking case sends a strong message to the Department of Defense.
Dr. Richard Urso: "From [ages] 25 to 44, we saw last quarter of last year an 82% rise in deaths, so there's a lot of data that's out there that is very, very troubling... This lipid nanoparticle messenger RNA platform, I don't care what you attach it to, it is always going to travel everywhere. It's always going to be a problem. And that's why you see the distribution of disorders coming from this after the vaccines affect so many different organ systems because it distributes everywhere."

As Gates explains in a video at the beginning of Corbett’s report, he’s building a pandemic response team for the WHO, dubbed the "Global Epidemic Response & Mobilization" or GERM Team. This team will be made up of thousands of disease experts under WHO’s purview and will monitor nations and make decisions about when to suspend civil liberties to prevent the spread of an illness.3
Alas, as noted by “Rising” host Kim Iversen in the video compilation above, if COVID-19 has taught us anything, it’s that stopping the spread of a virus is more or less impossible, no matter how draconian the rules. Meanwhile, the side effects of lockdowns and business shutdowns are manifold.
People’s health has suffered from a lack of health care. Depression and suicide have skyrocketed. Economies have gone bust. Violent crime has risen. Tucker also points out the false premise behind Gates’ pandemic prevention plan, stating:4
“This theory of virus control — the notion that muscling the population makes a prevalent virus shrink into submission and disappear — is a completely new invention, the mechanization of a primitive instinct.
Smallpox occupies a unique position among infectious diseases as the only one affecting humans that has been eradicated. There are reasons for that: a stable pathogen, a great vaccine, and a hundred years of focused public health work. This happened not due to lockdowns but from the careful and patient application of traditional public-health principles.
[T]he attempt to crush a respiratory virus through universal avoidance could be worse than allowing endemicity to it to develop throughout the population.”
Gates’ Destructive Greed
During COVID, we basically traded false protection against one thing for a multitude of other ills that are far worse in the long run. Now, Gates and the WHO want to make this disastrous strategy the norm.
Once again, we see Gates is basically paying the WHO to dictate what the world must do to make him a ton of money because he’s always heavily invested in the very “solutions” he presents to the world. While he’s built a reputation as a philanthropist, his actions are self-serving, and more often than not, the recipients of his “generosity” end up worse than they were before.
Case in point: After 15 years, Gates’ Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) project has now been proven an epic fail.5 Gates promised the project would “double yields and incomes for 30 million farming households by 2020.”
That false prognosis was deleted from the AGRA website in June 2020, after a Tuft University assessment revealed hunger had actually increased by 31%. February 28, 2022, the first-ever evaluation report6 confirmed the failure of AGRA.
The Globalists’ Double-Prong Attack on National Sovereignty
But getting back to the globalists’ plan to seize global control through biosecurity governance, they are attempting to do this using two different avenues. If we fail to fight off both attacks, we’ll end up under totalitarian governance.
The first attack comes in the form of amendments7 to the International Health Regulations (IHR). The second attack comes through a new international pandemic treaty with the WHO.
Starting with the first takeover strategy, as you read this, countries around the world are in the process of voting on amendments to the IHR.8 By May 28, 2022, the World Health Assembly will have concluded their vote on these amendments and, if passed, they will be enacted into international law in November 2022.
The IHR, adopted in 2005, is what empowers the WHO to declare a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).9 This is a special legal category that allows the WHO to initiate certain contracts and procedures, including drug and vaccine contracts. While the IHR grants the WHO exceptional power over global health policy already, under the current rules, member states must consent to the WHO’s recommendations.
This is one key feature that is up for revision. Under the new amendments, the WHO would be able to declare a PHEIC in a member state over the objection of that state. The amendments also include ceding control to WHO regional directors authorized to declare a Public Health Emergency of Regional Concern (PHERC).
In summary, the IHR amendments establish “a globalist architecture of worldwide health surveillance, reporting and management,” Robert Malone, Ph.D., warns,10 and we the public have no say in the matter.
We have no official avenue for providing feedback to the World Health Assembly, even though the amendments will give the WHO unprecedented power to restrict our rights and freedoms in the name of biosecurity. There’s not even a publicly available list of who the delegates are or who will vote on the amendments.
Summary of Proposed IHR Amendments
A summary of the proposed changes to the IHR was recently provided by Malone.11 In all, the WHO wants to amend 13 different IHR articles (articles 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 18, 48, 49, 53, and 59), the end result of which is the following:12
1. “Increased surveillance — Under Article 5, the WHO will develop early warning criteria that will allow it to establish a risk assessment for a member state, which means that it can use the type of modeling, simulation, and predictions that exaggerated the risk from COVID-19 over two years ago. Once the WHO creates its assessment, it will communicate it to inter-governmental organizations and other member states.
2. 48-hour deadline — Under Articles 6, 10, 11, and 13, a member state is given 48 hours to respond to a WHO risk assessment and accept or reject on-site assistance. However, in practice, this timeline can be reduced to hours, forcing it to comply or face international disapproval led by the WHO and potentially unfriendly member states.
3. Secret sources — Under Article 9, the WHO can rely on undisclosed sources for information leading it to declare a public health emergency. Those sources could include Big Pharma, WHO funders such as the Gates Foundation and the Gates-founded-and-funded GAVI Alliance, as well as others seeking to monopolize power.
4. Weakened sovereignty — Under Article 12, when the WHO receives undisclosed information concerning a purported public health threat in a member state, the Director-General may (not must) consult with the WHO Emergency Committee and the member state. However, s/he can unilaterally declare a potential or actual public health emergency of international concern.
The Director General’s authority replaces national sovereign authority. This can later be used to enforce sanctions on nations.”
Once the amendments are adopted by the World Health Assembly, nations will have only a limited time — six months — to reject them. That would put us into November 2022. Any nation which hasn’t officially rejected the amendments will then be legally bound by them, and any attempt to reject them after the six-month grace period will be null and void.
Attack No. 2: The WHO Pandemic Treaty
The second attempt to gain global control is through an international pandemic treaty with the WHO. An intergovernmental negotiating body (INB) was established as a subdivision of the World Health Assembly in December 2021,13 for the purpose of drafting and negotiating this new pandemic treaty.
In summary, the WHO wants to make its pandemic leadership permanent. It can then extend its power into the healthcare systems of every nation, and eventually implement a universal or “socialist-like” healthcare system as part of The Great Reset.
While a WHO-based universal health care system is not currently being discussed, there’s every reason to suspect that this is part of the plan. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has previously stated that his “central priority” as director-general is to push the world toward universal health coverage.14
And, considering the WHO changed its definition of “pandemic” to “a worldwide epidemic of a disease,”15 without the original specificity of severe illness that causes high morbidity,16,17 just about anything could be made to fit the pandemic criterion.
The problem with this treaty is that it simply cannot work. The whole premise behind this pandemic treaty is that “shared threat requires shared response.” But a given threat is almost never equally shared across regions.
Take COVID-19 for example. Not only is the risk of COVID not the same for people in New York City and the outback of Australia, but it’s also not even the same for all the people in those areas, as COVID is highly dependent on age and underlying health conditions.
The WHO insists that the remedy is the same for everyone everywhere, yet the risks vary widely from nation to nation, region to region, and person to person. They intend to eliminate individualized medicine and provide blanket rulings for how a given threat is to be addressed, and this can only result in needless suffering — not to mention the loss of individual freedom.
Are You Ready to Cede All Authority to Gates-Led Group?
In closing, Gates’ GERM team would be the ones with the authority to declare pandemics and coordinate global response.18 Are you ready to cede all authority over your life, health, and livelihood to the likes of Gates? I hope not.

(Natural News) Monkeypox, a very mild contagious disease that deserves no panic whatsoever, is reportedly spreading across the world among attendees of a gay pride gathering of 80,000 people in Gran Canaria.
As The Sun (UK) reports, “The Canaria Pride festival, held in the town of Maspalomas between May 5 and 15, has become a hotspot for the monkeypox outbreak, reports El País.”
Note that there isn’t a single corporate media outlet in the world that will admit such a fact. They cover up the filthy sexual habits and pretend that anal intercourse among multiple sex partners is perfectly normal, perhaps even preferred.
“Many known patients are gay men who were tested after going to STI clinics, the WHO said. Health chiefs warned gay and bisexual men to be on the lookout for new unexplained rashes,” adds The Sun. “Cases have now been detected in Israel, Norway, Australia, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Germany, France, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States, and Canada.”
But monkeypox presents virtually zero risk to the world. The media hysteria surrounding the topic is just the latest effort to try to spread fear and panic in order to push — you guessed it — the inevitable monkeypox vaccine that will be forced onto everyone if they can conjure up enough panic.
Anyone dumb enough to fall for this latest “outbreak” hysteria is dumber than a monkey, of course. Among primates on planet Earth, human beings are the only species dumb enough to poison their food supply with pesticides, mass murder their own offspring with widespread abortions, and inject themselves with genetically altering experimental “vaccines” that cause infertility and death. Even rats aren’t stupid enough to engage in those practices… it takes an obedient human progressive to be that stupid.
Only 10 weeks of wheat supply left in the world
As Insider.com reports, a food expert named Sara Menker, testifying before the United Nations, warned that there are only 10 weeks of wheat supply remaining in the world. Importantly, she also recognizes that it’s not merely “Putin’s fault.” From that story:
Sara Menker, the CEO of agriculture analytics firm Gro Intelligence, told the UN Security Council that the Russia-Ukraine war was not the cause of a food security crisis but “simply added fuel to a fire that was long burning.”
“It is important to note that the lowest grain inventory levels the world has ever seen are now occurring while access to fertilizers is highly constrained,” she said. “And drought in wheat-growing regions around the world is the most extreme it’s been in over 20 years. Similar inventory concerns also apply to corn and other grains.”
So what happens after the “wheat wars” hit a critical point of collapse? Food riots, of course. Upheaval, civil unrest, and revolution around the world. The lack of affordable food will push every nation across the world toward the boiling point. Some of those nations will see violent revolts. Others will see their governments fall (as is happening right now in Sri Lanka).

The total fatalities were broken down to 7,953 people who died positive for the virus and 61,513 people who expired due to other causes within 28 days of vaccination. During the same timeframe, a total of 14,049 people died from coronavirus and a total of 164,825 people died from other causes within 60 days of vaccination.
Moreover, the U.K. Health Security Agency‘s vaccine surveillance report indicated that 92 percent of all the pandemic-related deaths in England in March were among the vaccinated population.
Governments manipulated data to heighten COVID-19 pandemic
Dr. Norman Fenton, Risk Information Management professor at Queen Mary University of London, criticized the governments around the world for manipulating the COVID-19 pandemic data when he guested on “The Defender Podcast.”
“It was clear from the start that most of the data that governments put out – not just the UK government, but most governments around the world – were kind of misleading because it was based on very easily manipulated statistics,” Fenton told the host Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
Throughout the pandemic, Fenton closely examined and criticized how officials used data to make decisions about lockdowns, testing, and vaccines.
He pointed out that there was an immediate rush to draw conclusions, which were sort of based on over-simplistic data on case numbers and deaths. The problem was that data were very easily used by influencers and decision-makers to fit particular narratives that exaggerated the scale of the crisis.
Fenton’s team published some of the first research providing more accurate estimates about the infection rate versus the fatality rate compared with official estimates that he said were based on faulty data. The research showed the virus was more widespread than people assumed, but nowhere near as dangerous as was being claimed.
Further in the show, he also addressed some concerns about the faulty polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests.
“We were initially led to believe that the PCR test was an accurate diagnostic test. But later, of course, we discovered that wasn’t true. And the impact of that has been catastrophic,” he said.
The use of PCR tests was also misguided since the tests are inherently fraudulent, and were never intended or designed to function as a diagnostic tool for the disease.
Kennedy agreed, saying the magnitude of the pandemic was enormously and deceptively amplified by the misuse of the PCR test. He added that the information concerning deaths following vaccination also was manipulated as part of the official claim that the vaccine was the only way to keep people from becoming seriously ill and dying.
Data adjusted to take into account misclassification shows a peak in mortality shortly after vaccination. “Now, of course, it could well be that these are people who are indeed immunosuppressed seriously. Also, the vaccination might just be bringing forward the death, which would’ve occurred shortly afterward anyway,” Kennedy said.
Still, the fact remains that hundreds of thousands if not millions have died shortly
after getting injected with the COVID-19 vaccine.

Rolling blackouts from the Great Lakes to the West Coast are expected to be a common occurrence this year, according to Bloomberg, citing a new report from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), a regulatory body that manages the stability of the electrical grid.
NERC is warning that the West Coast especially will be extremely strained during the warmest months of the year. Historic drought conditions reduce hydroelectric power generation due to decreasing reservoir levels. This is already occurring at the Hoover Dam, which is just days away from dropping below 1,050 feet (if it has not already).
Once the largest hydroelectric dam in the world, the Hoover Dam is now at its lowest level on record. And this is just one of many such dams throughout the West that is in dire shape leading up to what is expected to be an extremely hot summer.
“Compound the hellacious weather backdrop with grids decommissioning fossil fuel power plants to fight climate change and their inability to bring on new green power generation, such as solar, wind, and batteries, in time, is a perfect storm waiting to happen that will produce electricity deficits that may force power companies into rolling blackouts for stability purposes,” reports Zero Hedge.
Of course they’re also blaming Russia, saying “cyberattacks” will take down the grid
Since last summer, power generation capacity across the western United States has declined by about 2.3 percent, even as demand is expected to increase. The Midwest is also in pretty bad shape, with the grid expected to be extremely tight throughout the summer months.
Some grids may have to source power from neighboring grids if they run into
shortages, which could trigger blackouts. The NERC expects this, having warned last year that at least 40 percent of the country is now at risk of losing power at a moment’s notice, depending upon demand.
This year, expectations are even worse with at least half of the country expected to run into energy problems once the really bad heat arrives. Not only have conditions worsened since the last estimation, but more “green” energy has been installed to replace stable energy since that time as well.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has issued multiple warnings as of late about how summer heatwaves could push that system over the edge. Texas is known to be hot and should be prepared, but after the freeze fiasco last year, there is no telling what will happen to the Lone Star State this year.
California is also in dire straits with a drought that is shrinking reservoir levels combined with the decommissioning of fossil fuel plants.
“We know that reliability is going to be difficult in this time of transition,” said Alice Reynolds, president of the California Public Utilities Commission, during a recent press conference.
Keep in mind that this is all expected to hit a time when gas and other energy prices are skyrocketing, inflation is through the roof, and food shortages are expected to increase. Hell on earth is about to be unleashed, it seems.
“America is slipping into the abyss as households get a taste of what it’s like to live in Venezuela,” warns Zero Hedge.
“It’s not that far off from what people are experiencing today: soaring inflation, shortages, a ruling regime which so many claim was not elected by the majority and soon, rolling blackouts.”

Does Old Joe Biden, having destroyed the American economy and severely threatened national security by essentially erasing the Southern border, want to get us into World War III, or is he just an elderly man in the throes of dementia who shouldn’t be running around loose with the international media hanging on his every word, saying things that could provoke a global crisis? Maybe it’s both. First, he told U.S. troops in Poland what they’d see when they got to Ukraine (the White House had to walk that one back), and now he has pledged that if China invades Taiwan, the U.S. will intervene militarily. Apparently, if Joe gets his way, America will soon be at war with both Russia and China. Hey, the adults are back in charge!
The Associated Press reported Monday morning that Biden said “that the U.S. would intervene militarily if China were to invade Taiwan, saying the burden to protect Taiwan is ‘even stronger’ after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It was one of the most forceful presidential statements in support of self-governing [Taiwan] in decades.” Well, yes, you could call it “forceful.” You could also, in light of our woke and distracted military, call it “foolish, ill-considered, wrongheaded and dangerous.”
This is not to say that Taiwan should simply be handed over to China. The problem here is that Old Joe has now, amid the fog of his semi-comprehension, made a commitment to Taiwan that the U.S. has not made in the past, and major policy shifts of this kind shouldn’t be done off-the-cuff by addled figureheads pretending to be president at press conferences.
As if referring to the actions of a recalcitrant third-grader, Biden said a Chinese invasion of Taiwan would “just not be appropriate,” and asserted that such an invasion would “dislocate the entire region and be another action similar to what happened in Ukraine.” He said that it was his “expectation” that China would not invade, but added that whether or not it did “depends upon just how strong the world makes clear that that kind of action is going to result in long-term disapprobation by the rest of the community.”
This is a president whose catastrophic bungling of the withdrawal from Afghanistan projected weakness before the world that has clearly led Russia and now possibly China as well to take advantage. And he’s talking about projecting strength? The man doesn’t know the meaning of the word.
AP noted that Biden “said ‘yes’ when asked if he was willing to get involved militarily to defend Taiwan if China invaded. ‘That’s the commitment we made,’ he added.” Actually, no, as AP explained: “The U.S. traditionally has avoided making such an explicit security guarantee to Taiwan, with which it no longer has a mutual defense treaty, instead of maintaining a policy of ‘strategic ambiguity’ about how far it would be willing to go if China invaded. The 1979 Taiwan Relations Act, which has governed U.S. relations with the island, does not require the U.S. to step in militarily to defend Taiwan if China invades, but makes it American policy to ensure Taiwan has the resources to defend itself and to prevent any unilateral change of status in Taiwan by Beijing.” And so while “a White House official said Biden’s comments did not reflect a policy shift,” this was clearly not the case, and more “clarification” is certainly in the offing.
Flirting with danger, Biden said of Communist China: “They’re already flirting with danger right now by flying so close and all the maneuvers that are undertaken.” And sure enough, in saying all this, affable Old Joe provoked another international incident. Communist Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin declared his country’s “strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition” to Biden’s remarks and added: “China has no room for compromise or concessions on issues involving China’s core interests such as sovereignty and territorial integrity. China will take firm action to safeguard its sovereignty and security interests, and we will do what we say.”
Biden also said that it was important to ensure that Putin would “pay a dear price for his barbarism in Ukraine.” No one at the Tokyo press conference where all this took place dared to ask Old Joe why Putin thought now would be an opportune time to unleash that barbarism in Ukraine, or why China would be emboldened now to invade Taiwan. It’s all on Old Joe, and now he is upping the ante at a time when America has very little with which to gamble. Should this old man really be playing this dangerous game?

On Monday, President Biden committed the United States to protect Taiwan militarily should China attempt to take the island nation by force. Just a few hours later, the White House backtracked on the president’s remarks and insisted that nothing has changed regarding America’s commitment to the so-called One China policy.
At a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Tokyo, the president was asked by a reporter, “You didn’t want to get involved in the Ukraine conflict militarily for obvious reasons. Are you willing to get involved militarily to defend Taiwan if it comes to that?”
“Yes,” Biden declared. “That’s the commitment we made.”
“We agree with the One China policy. We signed on to it, and all the attendant agreements made from there, but the idea that it can be taken by force, just taken by force, is just not appropriate,” the president said.
China’s Foreign Ministry quickly answered the president’s rhetoric, expressing its “strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition” to Biden’s remarks.
“No one should underestimate the strong determination, firm will, and strong ability of the Chinese people to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and do not stand against the 1.4 billion Chinese people,” China’s Foreign Ministry said.
Just a few hours later, a White House spokesperson said that Biden’s remarks signaled no change in policy from the administration.
“As the president said, our policy has not changed,” the spokesperson told Fox News. “He reiterated our One China Policy and our commitment to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. He also reiterated our commitment under the Taiwan Relations Act to provide Taiwan with the military means to defend itself.”
I asked a WH official how Biden’s statement at the press conf should be seen by China, especially after they expressed anger the State Department recently removed language saying the US does not support Taiwan independence, and Biden’s comment seemed a step further. “One China” is a policy position of the communist People’s Republic of China (PRC) stating that only one sovereign state bears the name China and that Taiwan, the Republic of China (ROC), which operates as a separate democratic entity, is actually just a part of the People’s Republic.
Under the “One China” policy, the United States acknowledges communist China’s claim to Taiwan but does not officially recognize Taiwan as part of mainland China. The United States supplies the ROC with defensive weapons while remaining equivocal on whether it would act militarily should the PRC move against Taiwan.
1979’s Taiwan Relations Act states that it is American policy “to provide Taiwan with arms of a defensive character; and to maintain the capacity of the United States to resist any resort to force or other forms of coercion that would jeopardize the security, or the social or economic system, of the people on Taiwan.”
So the United States is obliged to provide Taiwan with defensive arms and reserves the right to act in other ways should it feel it is necessary to defend Taiwan.
It’s not the first time the president has misspoken on the subject of Taiwan. During a CNN town hall event in October of last year, Biden spoke with Anderson Cooper on the subject.
“China, Russia, and the rest of the world know we have the most powerful military in the history of the world,” Biden said. “Don’t worry about whether we’re going to — they’re going to be more powerful. What you do have to worry about is whether or not they’re going to engage in activities that will put them in a position where they may make a serious mistake.”
After affirming that he didn’t want a “Cold War with China,” Biden added, “I just want to make China understand that we are not going to step back, we are not going to change any of our views.”
When asked directly by Cooper if that meant “the United States would come to Taiwan’s defense if China attacked?” Biden answered, “Yes, we have a commitment to do that.”
Biden seems to have a disconnect with the White House staff when it comes to the official policy positions of the United States and his own understanding of those positions. When answering questions off-the-cuff in a foreign land, he can’t be counted on to give correct answers.
These foreign trips must make for some sleepless nights for the White House staff who control the messaging of this administration.

In June 1948, the Soviet Union blockaded the partitioned city of Berlin, hoping to force the recently victorious allies to leave.
It didn’t work. “Operation VITTLES,” a military airlift of hundreds of tons of food, medicine, and other supplies, kept the Soviets from their goal. For more than a year, hundreds of planes flew in supplies to the isolated city until they finally relented.
There’s some irony in the news today about U.S. military planes flying baby formula from Germany to Indiana. Only this time, the threat isn’t from a foreign power. The threat is from the criminal incompetence of the Biden administration, which ignored the baby formula crisis for months until the media began to report on it.
More than 130 pallets filled with formula departed for Indianapolis on a C-17 aircraft a little after 5 a.m. Germany time as part of Operation Fly Formula. Each pallet of Nestle Health Science Alfamino Infant and Alfamino Junior formula held over 430 of the 14.1-ounce containers of formula, labels on the packaging showed.
Another 114 pallets of Gerber Good Start Extensive HA formula are expected to arrive soon, the White House said in a statement Thursday, adding that the equivalent of up to 1.5 million 8-ounce bottles of the three formulas will be delivered.
The crisis began in early February when the FDA discovered a rare kind of bacteria that may have contaminated some formula that ended up sickening four infants. It was never established that the bacteria came from the Abbott Nutrition plant in Sturgis, Mich. But there were some other problems with sanitation at the plant, and it was shuttered.
From February on, the clock was ticking on this crisis. And the Biden administration was asleep at the wheel.
All of the measures taken by the White House to deal with this crisis, including the president invoking the Defense Production Act and this latest public relations stunt to deliver a few dozen pallets of formula to America, won’t adequately address the immediate crisis.
Simply put, the Biden administration was caught flat-footed and wasn’t ready.
There aren’t any fundamental problems with producing baby formula. How do we know? Europeans, Japanese, and Australians are producing it just fine. There’s only a baby-formula shortage in the United States, and it’s because the United States government has adopted policies that allowed what should have been a relatively minor market disruption to turn into a widespread, prolonged shortage.
Instead of allowing parents to buy foreign formula as they would buy any other good, the Biden administration is making a big show of airlifting it here with specially contracted flights. The United States of America should not be dependent on airlifts for an adequate supply of baby formula. As Eric Boehm pointed out for Reason, if foreign brands of baby formula are safe to be airlifted now, they should be available for purchase all the time. It’s clear that the 98-percent-domestic baby-formula market leaves Americans vulnerable to supply shocks that the rest of the world doesn’t face.
No “supply bottlenecks” or “disruptions” caused this crisis. The shortage isn’t the fault of the pandemic wreaking havoc on the supply chains.
The administration didn’t start addressing this crisis until earlier this month despite having a lead time of at least 2.5 months. But the media continues to run interference for the doddering old fool in the White House because they’d rather assist in Biden’s lies than do anything to make the president’s political problems worse.

Joe Biden’s tumultuous year and a half of pretending to be president has seen the fall and rise of many things in the United States: gas prices, of course, are rising through the roof, along with prices on pretty much everything else. But for the stock market, it’s a different story altogether. Yahoo Finance reported Friday that U.S. stocks have just endured their longest losing streak since 2001; in other words, Joe Biden’s presidency has had an effect on the U.S. economy that is equivalent to 9/11.
This is not in any way to diminish the untold suffering that resulted from the attacks. Nearly 3,000 people were brutally murdered. There is no equivalent for that and no mitigation of its horror. The analogy between then and now is not in that but in the fact that the economy is suffering to a degree that we have not seen since the immediate aftermath of that terrible day.
According to Yahoo Finance, the major stock indexes were “heading for steep weekly losses as concerns over the resilience of corporate profits in the face of inflation resurged this week.” Luckily, Old Joe’s Commie pals threw us a lifeline: “the S&P 500 traded lower, erasing earlier gains after China’s central bank unexpectedly cut a benchmark interest rate to offer some relief to borrowers in the country still grappling with a widespread COVID-19 outbreak.”
Nonetheless, “the index dropped more than 1.5%, bringing it on an intraday basis lower by more than 20% from its recent record close from Jan. 3. If the losses hold through market close, the S&P 500 will have entered a bear market.” Well, of course, we will. That is as certain as Joe’s next teleprompter gaffe.
Meanwhile, the news from the other indexes was no better: “the Dow shed more than 400 points or 1.4%, and the Nasdaq dropped more than 2% during intraday trading. Treasury yields sank, with the yield on the benchmark 10-year note sinking to just above 2.8%, and U.S. crude oil prices edged up to more than $112 per barrel.” And this has been going on for a while: “the losses Friday for the major U.S. stock indexes extended a slide seen earlier this week. As of Thursday’s close, the S&P 500 was on track for a weekly loss of 5.4% — its biggest since January. And the index was also on track to post a seventh straight weekly loss or its longest losing streak since 2001. The Dow and Nasdaq paced toward weekly losses of 5% and 6.2%, respectively.”
The longest losing streak since 2001. What happened in 2001 that made stocks take a nosedive? According to CNN Money, that fateful year “began with a bang. The Nasdaq surged a record 14.17 percent on the second trading day of 2001 after the Federal Reserve surprised investors with a half-percentage point rate cut. That was the first of 11 attempts by central bankers to revive consumer and business spending. Stocks continued to rise in January only to tumble by April. They gained sharply through May before gradually declining through summer.”
But then came 9/11, and suddenly the economic picture was drastically different: “the Dow industrials fell more than 1,300 points in the first week after the markets reopened following the terror attacks, its worst week since the Great Depression. By Sept. 21, the major indexes had fallen to three-year lows. But less than 10 weeks later, the major indexes erased their post-Sept. 11 losses, vindicating investors who called for patriotic buying after the attack.”
Will the American economy similarly rebound now? It could, but there is no chance of such a recovery while Joe Biden and his henchmen have their knees on our collective economic windpipe. It is the Biden administration’s profligate spending, an uncontrolled increase of the money supply, and relentless commitment to green fantasies and socialist internationalism that have gotten us in this fix, and there is no end in sight.
Could the stock market recover? Sure, if Biden suddenly became an America-First president and focused on relieving the plight of the American people rather than the Ukrainian people and if he abandoned his schemes to destroy the economy chasing more green delusions and worked to restore the energy independence the nation had achieved during the Trump administration. But that’s about as likely as Old Joe reading a message off his teleprompter without saying something silly and/or incoherent.
The next milestone will be when the stock downturn becomes the worst since the Great Depression. Watch for that one soon. And then what will we see in America? Breadlines? Hoovervilles? Food riots? In Joe Biden’s America, during the presidency that Nancy Pelosi gushed was “perfect,” all this and more is in the offing. Old Joe Biden’s presidency will long be remembered for its many milestones, and wrecking the strongest economy on the planet will stand as one of the foremost.

The Bidenites have ignored the Taylor Force Act ever since they took over in Washington. That is the act, passed overwhelmingly by Congress in 2018, that prohibits the American government from giving aid to the PA as long as its “Pay-For-Slay” program is in operation. That “Pay-For-Slay” program provides generous subsidies to imprisoned terrorists for their lifetimes, and also to the families of terrorists who were killed while committing their attacks.
Even though “Pay-for-Slay” remains in place, and Mahmoud Abbas has defiantly proclaimed that he will continue to fund the program “even with my last penny, ”the Bidenites have sent hundreds of millions of dollars in economic aid to the PA. The Palestinian Authority allocates hundreds of millions of dollars to terrorists and their families even as the Biden administration pumps U.S. taxpayer funds into the Palestinian government, according to a non-public State Department report issued to Congress and obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
The report, published on May 10, details how the Palestinian government runs afoul of a U.S. law that bars it from receiving American aid dollars until these terror payments, known as the “pay-to-slay program,” are stopped. The PA in 2019, the most recent reporting period available, allocated over $150 million to convicted terrorists. Another $191 million was paid to the families of terrorists who were “martyred” while conducting attacks against Israelis and Americans. There is no sign these payments will end, with Palestinian leaders voicing support on the international stage for the program.
The PA has not terminated payments for acts of terrorism against Israeli and U.S. citizens to any individual, after being fairly tried, who has been imprisoned for such acts of terrorism and to any individual who died committing such acts of terrorism, including to a family member of such individuals,” the State Department concluded. The PA makes these payments in cash as part of an effort to obfuscate its actions and stop the international community from holding it accountable for awarding terrorists and their families, according to the State Department’s findings.
The report comes as the Biden administration pushes to increase U.S. aid dollars to the PA, which were terminated during the Trump administration as a result of the “pay-to-slay” program. More than $360 million in U.S. funding was given to the PA in 2021, potentially in violation of a bipartisan law known as the Taylor Force Act, which prohibits the American government from giving the Palestinians aid as long as they pay terrorists. The Biden administration maintains that the aid programs do not violate the law, though it is unclear what safeguards have been put on the funding to ensure it is not used to pay terrorists and their families. The State Department confirmed that no “economic support funds” were withheld as a result of restrictions in the Taylor Force Act.
Unembarrassed to be violating the Taylor Force Act, the Bidenites now have the chutzpah to ask for even more money for the PA. The Bidenites say the aid it gives the PA does not violate the law, but even if every dollar sent by the Americans is allocated for schools or hospitals, that merely frees up other money that was to be spent on those schools and hospitals, but now will be spent on those imprisoned terrorists and families of dead terrorists. There is no way to give the PA money without helping it fund its “Pay-For-Slay” program.

The Bidenites can try to appeal to Mahmoud Abbas to end the “Pay-For-Slay” program all they want, and can express just how “strongly opposed” they are to the program, but none of that has any effect on the Palestinians. The only thing that will work is exactly what the Taylor Force Act does: cutting off all American aid to the PA as long as “Pay-For-Slay” continues. There is no other way.
The Bidenites, whatever their claims about “Pay-For-Slay,” are just as determined not to cut off their aid to the PA as the PA is to keep “Pay-For-Slay” going. What is it that makes the Bidenites so eager to give hundreds of millions of dollars each year to the corrupt regime in Ramallah that has been praising the rioters on the Temple Mount, and the recent spate of killings of 19 Israelis, the regime that threatens to “cut off” all ties to Israel because the Jewish state dares to fight back against those who would do it harm?
No, the USAID is dead wrong when it claims that “assistance in the West Bank and Gaza is implemented consistent with U.S. law.” The Bidenites have been ignoring the Taylor Force Act, simply stating with maddening chutzpah that the aid they give the PA is “consistent with U.S. law.” No, it isn’t, and their claim, without even an attempt to justify it — as if none were needed — is infuriating. This is the Bidenites’ way: we say it is so, so it must be so. Ipse dixit. If they keep repeating this falsehood, they’re hoping it will be accepted. Certainly, the “progressive” Democrats who are delighted to keep funding the PA will raise no objections.
Let’s be clear: the Taylor Force Act says that the American government must not give aid to the PA as long as it continues to support its “Pay-For-Slay” program. The law is unambiguous. The Biden Administration suggests that the money it gives to the PA is not money that is spent by it to support the “Pay-For-Slay” program. But this is nonsense. Money is fungible. If the Americans gave the PA $360 million dollars in 2021, even if they were to specify that it must be used “for humanitarian aid,” that simply freed up $360 million from elsewhere in the PA’s budget, which is spent on “Pay-For-Slay.”
Republicans in Congress disagree with the Bidenites’ assessment.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas), for example, says the Biden administration cannot guarantee that the PA is not using U.S. funds as part of its terror financing program. Since the PA moved to a cash system, it is even harder to track which tranches of money are being used to fund “pay to slay.”
Of course, the Bidenites cannot guarantee where the money they send to the PA is spent.

Old Joe Biden’s presidency has not been bereft of accomplishments. He has erased America’s Southern border, brought in well over a million unvetted migrants, drastically reduced America’s prestige and influence worldwide, destroyed the energy independence the nation achieved during the Trump administration, and has overseen catastrophic rises in gas prices and, indeed, in prices overall.
And now, amid a baby formula shortage and a time when Americans are suffering from an economic crisis that threatens to be larger than any such downturn since the Great Depression, we are sending $40 billion to Ukraine. According to Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Biden’s handlers aren’t going to come up with that money simply by firing up the printing presses and afflicting the American people with more inflation; instead, we’re borrowing it from Communist China. What could possibly go wrong?
As PJM’s Athena Thorne noted a week ago, Paul has been a staunch opponent of the Ukraine aid package, saying: “Reserving the right to object, my oath of office is to the U.S. Constitution, not to any foreign nation. And no matter how sympathetic the cause, my oath of office is to the national security of the United States of America. We cannot save Ukraine by dooming the U.S. economy.” He pointed out that “gasoline alone is up 48 percent, and energy prices are up 32 percent over the last year. Food prices have increased by nearly 9 percent. Used vehicle prices are up 35 percent for the year, and new vehicle prices have increased 12 percent or more.”
And so dooming the American economy does seem to be exactly what Biden’s handlers are doing. Paul said Wednesday: “I think it’s important to know that we don’t have any money to send, we have to borrow money from China to send it to Ukraine. And I think most people kind of get that, and many Republicans will say that when it’s a new social program, but if it’s military aid to a country, they’re like we can borrow that, that’s a justified borrowing.”
He pointed out that the Republicans who voted to send this aid to Ukraine were undermining the argument that Biden was responsible for the current skyrocketing inflation: “The problem is that it all leads to inflation, so it kind of hurts the Republican argument that Biden’s spending and Biden’s debt leads to inflation, except for when it’s bipartisan spending and that doesn’t really count.”
Indeed. The Ukraine aid vote is more evidence that there is just one big political party in Washington, with two major factions that see eye-to-eye on most everything, differing only in minor matters of priority and procedure. “This is the bipartisan consensus right now on Ukraine,” Paul continued. “Republican and Democrat leadership are exactly the same. So they get together. But in order to get together to get this, it’s guns and butter, you look at the $40 billion, it’s a lot of guns, but in order to get the gun they had to give out a lot of butter and so there’s a lot of spending going to European countries for food throughout the world. What we’ve done is given away the farm to make us weaker.” Yes, and there will come a time when the bills will have to be paid.
Meanwhile, the principal beneficiaries of all this are the Communist Chinese, who will come out of the Russia-Ukraine conflict considerably strengthened and facing a drastically weakened Russia (no matter what the outcome of the war is), and the United States which has had its resources depleted under the auspices of the reckless, feckless, America-Last Biden regime. Will the money the U.S. will have to pay back to China go to fund an invasion of Taiwan or some other global adventurism?
Whatever happens, it is difficult to see how any of this can end well for the United States. The administration continues to pursue relentlessly inflationary policies that are now threatening to bring the entire economy to a standstill. Do Biden’s handlers have any regard for the American people at all? Or are they so determined to pursue their internationalist socialist fantasies that they don’t care if they bring economic disaster upon the nation and plunge millions of Americans into poverty? After all, those who cannot support themselves will be forced to rely on the nation’s social safety net and will become more inclined to vote for the party that will keep that safety net as capacious and comfortable as possible. So for the elites, there’s just no downside.

Upon taking office, Gov. Glenn Youngkin and Attorney General Jason Miyares ordered a grand jury investigation into multiple allegations against Loudoun County Public Schools, and now the school board is desperately trying to stop it.
According to a local report, the Loudoun County School Board is seeking a temporary injunction to halt the special grand jury, claiming Youngkin exceeded his power by ordering it.
This move by the school board is curious, considering they previously agreed to cooperate with the investigation.
“Loudoun County Public Schools stated publicly they would cooperate with the special grand jury,” Miyares spokeswoman Victoria LaCivita said in an email to WTOP News. “Asking for an injunction is just the latest in a series of efforts to prevent the citizens of Loudoun from learning the truth about conditions existing in Loudoun County public schools that promote criminal activity, proving this investigation is warranted and necessary. This injunction is a waste of taxpayer money and the investigation will continue.”
It seems obvious that Loudoun County Public Schools is still aggressively trying to cover up its own misconduct because protecting itself is a much higher priority than protecting its students.

As the dust begins to settle from the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s easier to look back with clarity on the unprecedented events that have taken place over the last two years. Thousands of medical doctors and scientists now believe that the pandemic was planned and used to install a world dictatorship. Further, it’s unlikely to be the last.
The World Health Organization, in fact, has planned for 10 years of infectious diseases from 2020 to 2030, as revealed by WHO virologist Marion Koopmans in “The Plan,” featured above. When asked whether chances are high that there will be a second pandemic, she responds (translated from Dutch), “Yes, this has been in the WHO’s 10-year plan for some time. That plan says that there will be a major infectious disease crisis. Well, this was year one.”1
How could they know that an infectious disease crisis is imminent in the next decade? A series of shocking evidence reveals that this may have been the plan all along — a plan that hasn’t been hidden. On the contrary, it’s been stated openly for years that a pandemic was coming, setting the stage for widespread acceptance and compliance around the globe.
Proof the Pandemic Was Planned?
The WHO virologist’s acknowledgment that the agency has a plan for 10 years of ongoing pandemics mirrors a statement by Bill Gates that COVID-19 was “pandemic one” and “pandemic two” is coming. “We’ll have to prepare for the next one. That will get attention this time,” he says — while smiling.2
It’s important to understand that Bill Gates is WHO’s No. 1 funder, contributing more to WHO’s $4.84 billion biennial budget3 than any member-state government, via multiple avenues including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as well as GAVI, which was founded by the Gates Foundation in partnership with WHO, the World Bank, and various vaccine manufacturers.
In short, Bill Gates is essentially the owner of WHO, and WHO’s 10-year pandemic plan is also Gates’ plan. As noted by Stop World Control:4

Millions of COVID-19 Test Kits Sold — in 2017 and 2018
It’s difficult to ignore the numerous announcements, both subtle and overt, that a pandemic was coming, which occurred in the years and months leading up to 2020. Data from World Integrated Trade Solution (WITS) shows COVID-19 test kits were imported by different countries in 2017 and 2018. “Let this sink in for a second: Literally hundreds of millions of COVID-19 test kits were exported and imported, all over the world, during 2017 and 2018,” Stop World Control explains.6
The data was posted on September 5, 2020, on social media and it went viral. The next day, WITS swapped “COVID-19 test kits” with “medical test kits,” but the Internet Archive Wayback Machine still has an image of the original.7 Meanwhile, in 2017, Anthony Fauci somehow knew that an outbreak was coming. In fact, he all but guaranteed it, stating:8
“There is no question there is going to be a challenge for the coming administration in the area of infectious diseases. There will be a surprise outbreak. There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind about this.”
Gates also stated publicly in 2018 that a global pandemic was imminent, likely within the next decade, while Melinda Gates went so far as to state that an engineered virus in the coming years was humanity’s greatest threat.9
Then there’s the often-overlooked fact that the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, the World Economic Forum and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation sponsored a novel coronavirus pandemic preparedness exercise shortly before the pandemic started.
The event, which took place on October 18, 2019, in New York, was called Event 201, and it included a detailed simulation of a coronavirus outbreak with a predicted global death toll of 65 million people within a span of 18 months.10 December 19, 2019, shortly after the event, Gates tweeted, “I’m particularly excited about what the next year could mean for one of the best buys in global health: vaccines.”11
Moderna Had COVID-19 Shots in 2019
Here’s another unsettling fact: December 12, 2019, Moderna, together with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), sent mRNA coronavirus vaccine candidates to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill12 — again, that’s before the pandemic started. The confidential documents were revealed by The Daily Expose, which reported:13
“What did Moderna [and NIAID] know that we didn’t? In 2019 there was not any singular coronavirus posing a threat to humanity which would warrant a vaccine, and evidence suggests there hasn’t been a singular coronavirus posing a threat to humanity throughout 2020 and 2021 either.”
Going back further, in 2010, The Rockefeller Foundation released a report titled “Scenarios for the Future of Technology and International Development,” which uses scenario planning to explore ways that technology and growth/development and government might play out over the coming decades. One of the scenarios they detailed was a pandemic with some eerie similarities to COVID-19:14
“In 2012, the pandemic that the world had been anticipating for years finally hit … The pandemic … had a deadly effect on economies: international mobility of both people and goods screeched to a halt, debilitating industries like tourism and breaking global supply chains. Even locally, normally bustling shops and of office buildings sat empty for months, devoid of both employees and customers.”
The scenario suggests that China fared far better than the U.S., due to its government’s “quick imposition and enforcement of mandatory quarantine for all citizens, as well as its instant and near-hermetic sealing off of all borders, saved millions of lives, stopping the spread of the virus far earlier than in other countries and enabling a swifter post-pandemic recovery.”
As the pandemic continues, “national leaders around the world flexed their authority and imposed airtight rules and restrictions, from the mandatory wearing of face masks to body-temperature checks at the entries to communal spaces like train stations and supermarkets.”
The increased authoritarian control and oversight of citizens continued even after the pandemic ended, and was welcomed at first in exchange for “greater safety and stability.”
Pandemic Propaganda Has Been Ongoing for Years
So-called “predictive programming” prepares the public for future events via entertainment. In the 2003 series “Dead Zone,” a coronavirus pandemic is featured with chloroquine emerging as the cure. “V for Vendetta” is another example. This 2006 movie features the rise of dictatorship and fear-based propaganda due to a virus. Curiously, the film is set in 2020 as “an uncompromising vision of the future.”
In 2012, a comic book titled “Infected,” produced by the European Union for distribution among their employees only, also depicted a virus originating in a Chinese lab that sets the stage for worldwide tyranny, described as the “one health approach.”15
Even the Summer Olympics in 2012 included the scenario of a pandemic — complete with nurses and hospital beds — in its opening show.16 Even in the months leading up to the pandemic, additional red flags were raised. Among them:17
Months before the pandemic, a panel discussed the need for “a global disruptive event to make the world willing to accept experimental vaccines”
In August 2019, Australia published a management plan for a pandemic18
Six months before the pandemic, the Global Vaccination Summit prepared to vaccinate the entire world
In September 2019, WHO instructed all governments to prepare for an imminent pandemic due to a “rapidly spreading lethal respiratory pathogen”19

At this point, signs that an all-encompassing global totalitarian plan is being quietly put together, piece by piece, are all around us. The Rockefeller Foundation released a “National COVID-19 Testing Action Plan” that calls for the use of a digital "patient identification number" to track all Americans after testing them for COVID-19,21 and multibillionaire criminals are working to impose worldwide tyranny. As noted by Stop World Control:22

Among the providential results of the Russian invasion of Ukraine has been the reawakening of the West to the value of its mutual defense pact, NATO, whose 30 members are all pledged to come to the defense of any member threatened with aggression. And the Ukraine war has led to a spectacular development: the desire expressed by both Finland and Sweden to become members of NATO.
Before the invasion of Ukraine, most Finns and Swedes were lukewarm about joining NATO. All that has changed: 76% of Finns now want Finland in NATO, and so do more than 60% of Swedes. Finland has already declared its intention to seek NATO membership; Sweden is just about to follow suit. NATO’s Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg, has announced that both countries would be “welcomed with open arms.”
Well, not quite. One set of arms that will remain resolutely closed belongs to the Turkish President, the dour and difficult Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He has already announced that he will oppose membership in NATO for both countries. Since approval of new members of NATO requires a unanimous vote, Turkey by itself can keep both Sweden and Finland out.
Why would Erdogan do this? He is angry that there are Kurds – 15,000 of them – living in Sweden and that some of them, unsurprisingly, support the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, which favors greater autonomy for the 15 million Kurds living in Turkey. The PKK is recognized by Turkey, the US, and the EU as a terrorist organization, although this designation has become increasingly controversial as the PKK has greatly decreased its acts of terrorism. “Erdogan says Turkey does not support Finland and Sweden joining NATO,” by Dylan Stableford, Yahoo News, May 13, 2022:

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that his country does not support plans by Finland and Sweden to join NATO, claiming they are home to “terrorist organizations.”
This is rich, coming from someone who in 2020 gave refuge, and Turkish citizenship and passports, to dozens of members of the terror group Hamas. Furthermore, Sweden does not support but outlaws the PKK. What Erdogan really objects to is Sweden not also outlawing members of the YPG, which Turkey regards as the Syrian branch of the PKK. The YPG, which was America’s most useful ally in the fight against the Islamic State, continues to receive American military and financial support. Should Turkey be allowed to keep Sweden and Finland out of NATO just because the Swedes – like the Americans – have supported, or at least not banned, the YPG?
“We are following the developments regarding Sweden and Finland, but we don’t hold positive views,” Erdogan told reporters at a press conference in Istanbul. “Scandinavian countries are guesthouses for terrorist organizations.”
There is only one “guesthouse for terrorist organizations” in Europe – Turkey itself, where until recently the welcome mat was always out for Hamas.
“They are even members of the parliament in some countries,” Erdogan added, without offering evidence. “It is not possible for us to be in favor.”
His comments came a day after Finland’s leaders said they intended to apply for NATO membership “without delay.”
Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin and President Sauli Niinistö released a joint statement announcing that Finland — which shares an 810-mile border with Russia — intends to join the alliance.
“NATO membership would strengthen Finland’s security,” their statement said. “As a member of NATO, Finland would strengthen the entire defense alliance.”
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg had said the Finns would be “warmly welcomed” into the pact. The United States and United Kingdom back the move as well.
Sweden is also expected to announce its decision to join the alliance in the coming days.
For a country to be accepted into NATO, there is a list of minimum requirements. This includes having a functioning democracy, treating minority populations fairly and having the ability to make military contributions to NATO operations.
Does Turkey still have a “functioning democracy”? It holds elections, but Erdogan is an authoritarian — a despot — who does not brook dissent. During his time in power, first as prime minister and since then as president, Erdogan has been purging his military of the Kemalist officer corps, replacing them with Islamists. The purge in the military of secularists, bizarrely accused of being supporters of Fethulleh Gulen, a rival of Erdogan who was absurdly charged with directing the 2016 attempted coup in Turkey from his exile in Pennsylvania, became much wider following that failed coup. Nor were military men the only ones to be discharged or imprisoned. After the coup, more than 100,000 professors, university rectors, lawyers, doctors, teachers, civil servants, and journalists all lost their jobs for supposedly “supporting the Gulenist coup,” but really for harboring secularist views that Erdogan feared and despised. An estimated 150,000 state employees were suspended or dismissed, and more than 50,000 were jailed. Turkey a few years ago had jailed more journalists than any other country. Now it has slightly improved and is #6 on the list of countries that jail the most journalists.. Is any of that a sign of a “functioning democracy”?
And does Turkey treat its minority populations fairly, as is required of NATO members? Fifteen million Kurds apparently do not think so; that is why the PKK has attracted such support during the last few decades. Are Christians – the Greek Orthodox – treated “fairly” when Erdogan’s government has continued to keep closed the only seminary for Greek Orthodox priests left in Turkey, the Halki Theological School? This seminary, which was closed in 1971 on the pretext that privately run institutions were no longer legal, was the only school in the country for the training of Orthodox clergy. The continued closure means the Greek Orthodox Church in Turkey is unable to train new clergy in-country. Erdogan’s government has also confiscated valuable church property, including an historic orphanage on the island of Pringipo, and the expropriation of 152 properties of the Balukli Hospital in Istanbul. Neither the very large number – 15 million — of Kurds, nor the very small number – 3,000 – of Greeks, are treated fairly in Turkey. Treating minorities” fairly” is one of the most basic requirements that must be met to be a member of NATO. On this score, too, Turkey fails.
Turkey joined NATO in 1952. The country was clearly the odd man out in what was a military alliance of anti-Communist Western states that shared Christian heritage. The Americans wanted to reward Turkey for sending troops to fight in the Korean War and, of course, Turkey was also useful as an intelligence base for monitoring events in the Soviet Union. But the Turkey which joined NATO in 1952 was still run by secularists in the Kemalist mode. Turkey has become much more Islam-oriented since Erdogan first became president in 2003. He warned the Austrian prime minister Sebastian Kurz in 2018, whose closure of some mosques had angered him, about a potential future conflict “between the crescent and the cross,” and left no doubt as to which side Turkey would be on. In his neo-Ottoman dreams, Turkey would be the natural leader of the forces of the “crescent” — the Muslim states — against the states of “the cross,” which would include all the other members of NATO.
Erdogan also had published in Yeni Safak, the newspaper that reflects his views, a plan for an “Army of Islam” that would combine the men and weaponry of many Muslim countries into one vast army that would be able to destroy Israel. Apparently, none of that was enough for NATO’s other members to begin thinking about expelling Turkey from NATO.
This expansion of NATO – with Sweden and Finland as its two new members — would be an enormous blow to Putin. Preventing NATO’s expansion was one of the main reasons the Russian President launched his military invasion of Ukraine. Instead, his invasion has had the opposite effect, in finally pushing two once-reluctant Scandinavian states into the arms of NATO. But as long as Turkey is allowed to exercise its veto, that blow will not be delivered. Two countries that are part of the West will be kept out of NATO by a country that is neither a truly “functioning democracy” nor a state that “treats its minorities fairly,” as NATO members are required to be, and that has now cast aside Kemalism, to again become part of the East or, more exactly, part of the Islamic East.
Erdogan must not be allowed to exercise that veto.
Here is what the other NATO countries could do to bring Erdogan to heel:
First, the stick: NATO members could threaten to end all financial assistance to Turkey. The U.S. alone gives $125 million to Turkey annually. It allows Turkey to buy advanced weaponry. Both the money and that access to weapons could be ended. So could loans to Turkey from the IMF, if the U.S. and other major economic powers opposed them. Turkey’s economy is just now in free fall; it is desperate for help. That help can be denied unless Erdogan withdraws his opposition to Finland and Sweden joining NATO.
Second, instead of the stick, the carrot. If Erdogan drops his objections to Finland and Sweden joining NATO, he might find the Americans willing to increase their aid. And Sweden itself might promise, in order to obtain Turkey’s approval of its admission to NATO, that it will closely monitor the Kurdish exiles in Sweden, to make sure they do not engage in political or military plots against Turkey.
Third, it might be time for neither carrot nor stick, but for something that has been a long time coming: a simple parting of the ways. A number of NATO members have been angered by Erdogan’s attacks on them as “Nazis”; they are tired of his antics; his trying to block Sweden and Finland from membership should be the last straw. Now is the time to end permanently the problem of Erdogan’s Turkey in NATO, by calling an extraordinary meeting of NATO to discuss ending Turkey’s membership in the defense pact. It could be pointed out that Turkey no longer satisfies the requirement that it be a “functioning democracy” and will not do so as long as the authoritarian, autocratic, despotic Erdogan, sitting in his 1,150-room White Palace (Ak Saray), continues to keep so many of his political enemies locked up and the “country’s free press” has become a joke. Turkey is not a “functioning democracy,” but a “despotism-plus-elections.” For NATO, that won’t do.
Furthermore, the 15 million Kurds in Turkey have been subjected to severe mistreatment. Violence has been widely reported against ordinary Kurdish citizens and the headquarters and branches of the pro-Kurdish rights Peoples’ Democratic Party have been attacked by mobs. The European Court of Human Rights and many other international human rights organizations have condemned Turkey for thousands of human rights abuses against Kurds. Many judgments are related to systematic executions of civilians, torture, forced displacements, destroyed villages, arbitrary arrests, and murdered and disappeared journalists, activists, and politicians. The use of the Kurdish language is forbidden in schools; officials who use Kurdish have been given long prison sentences. Can the treatment of Turkey’s Kurdish minority be considered to meet NATO’s requirement that “minorities be treated fairly”? Absolutely not.
Now the issue is squarely before NATO. Choose between A) Turkey stays in NATO, while Sweden and Finland are kept out and B) Sweden and Finland are admitted to NATO, and Turkey is expelled. How hard a choice is that?
