On Thursday, Facebook owner Meta Platforms Inc. (FB) went into an "epic, historic spiral" -- shearing $220 billion, or 20%, from its value and "hinting that the company's reign over online socializing might not last," The Washington Post reports.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has been able to steer the global social media colossus for the past 18 years through scandals, regulatory pressure, lawsuits, whistleblowers, and competitors.

The latest earnings report gives signs, that "Facebook's dream of connecting the whole world is dead."

Daily Log-Ins Stall

The most significant number in its quarterly earnings report, issued after-hours Wednesday, was that its flagship social network, known as Big Blue App internally, stalled just below 2 billion daily log-ins.

"The news that Facebook may have peaked in 2021 was only the most symbolic data point in a gloomy corporate earnings report that sent Meta's stock into an epic, historic spiral," the Post says. The downturn, shocking to many investors, also took the tech-heavy Nasdaq down 3% with it.

Meta blamed its disappointing results on Apple Inc.'s new advertising privacy crackdown that restricts companies' targeted ads on iPhones. However, the Post also pointed to Meta's difficulties monetizing its Instagram holding's short video product, Reels, to compete with China's TikTok giant.

In addition, Meta is spending tons of cash on Reality Labs to build the so-called virtual reality "metaverse."

Until now, Facebook has touted its daily active users' number with each earnings report. Certainly, garnering the loyalty of 2 billion people of the 7.753 people living on the earth is an "enormous, almost incomprehensible figure" -- and Facebook has proven through its ruthlessness that it is willing to expand and conquer the world at any cost, even at the expense of lives and users' sense of self-worth.

Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has gloated that it is his intention to connect the entire world.

Not Facebook's 'Myspace moment'

As the Post puts it, "This is not Facebook's 'Myspace moment.'"

Facebook is no longer Meta's prized holding. It is a legacy holding, the Post even goes so far to say -- and "Wednesday's earnings report showed that Facebook's ascent has stalled just about everywhere."

The Post bets that Meta will pivot to focus on Instagram and interconnectivity among its various platforms on both the front- and back-ends. It could create marketplaces among its platforms, for instance. It could also expand Internet access in places where Facebook is not ubiquitous, such as Africa and Latin America.

But the bottom line is that Zuckerberg may not be able to get the whole world on Facebook -- or any other platform -- for that matter.

Maybe it is an elusive challenge that no one, not even Zuckerberg, can ever surmount.

Judge Halts Persecution of Military Officers for Requesting Religious Vax Exemption

Steven Merryday, U.S. District Judge for the Middle District of Florida, has had it with the continuing persecution of military service members requesting religious exemptions from the COVID mandates. He ordered that Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and “anyone acting in concert with him” stop the persecutions of two military officers immediately.

Back in November, he heard a lawsuit from 23 service members complaining that each of their religious-exemption requests had been arbitrarily denied; that they were subject to harassment, intimidation, and threats of losing their positions for even making the requests; and concluded:

The plaintiffs claim the regulations … in reality disguise an unlawful and pervasive policy of the Secretary of Defense and each branch of the armed forces to deny individual consideration of each claim for a religious exemption, to instead “deny them all,” and to punish, possibly by discharge, without exemption or accommodation, those who assert a sincere religious objection and accordingly refuse the vaccine.

He called the process set up by the military services a “ruse” designed to remove anyone claiming a religious exemption from the service:

The claim that the regulations are a ruse becomes … more convincing … that the regulations are, shall we say, insincere and … the less convincing is the argument that the military has a compelling reason not to grant the exemptions and accommodations.

Despite Merryday’s order that each branch of the military report to him every week on how many requests for denials were being made and how they were being handled, it’s clear that those branches have not only failed to comply, but have continued the policy of harassment, intimidation, and threats. These two senior officers were in imminent danger of losing their command positions by refusing to take the vaccine.

In the present case, after hearing of the threats of “un-deployment” if the two failed to get the vaccine, Merryday concluded:

The record in this action establishes that the two service members are very likely to prevail on their claim that their respective branch of the military has wrongfully denied a religious exemption from COVID-19 vaccination.

The record creates a strong inference that the services are discriminatorily and systematically denying religious exemptions without a meaningful and fair hearing and without the showing required under RFRA [Religious Freedom Restoration Act] (while simultaneously granting medical exemptions and permitting unvaccinated persons to continue in service without adverse consequence).

One struggles to imagine a wholesome and lawful explanation for the results evidenced in this record. The military is well aware of the frailty of their arguments in defense of their practices.

He wrote that the two service members are likely to prevail in a full-blown trial:

The two … service members face either (1) a most-likely-unlawful deprivation of their accumulated status and standing in the United States military, as well as prospective advancement and benefits, or (2) deprivation of their constitutional and statutory rights to Free Exercise and the statutory right to receive a religious exemption unless the military can meet the statutory burden of proof, which the military has not and likely cannot.

Merryday said the defendants have an extraordinarily weak case supporting the continuing mandates:

On the other hand, the military faces a trivial, if any, prospect of material injury as a result of permitting the service members continued service under the same terms and conditions and with the same privileges and emoluments as currently prevail, especially because the military permits a large group of unvaccinated persons to serve without adverse consequence.

That “large group” includes 234 medical exemptions granted by the Marines and 270 medical exemptions granted by the Navy, providing more proof that those services are deliberately and intentionally targeting believers by denying religious exemptions.

Merryday has given Secretary of Defense Austin until February 11 to conjure a sufficient defense of this blatant and unconstitutional behavior. Otherwise, his ruling will become permanent, affecting every service member holding strong religious convictions against taking the vaccine.

A key compound in broccoli, new research has found, has the potential to directly stimulate the repair and renewal of damaged nerve tissue in the brain, which is great news for the potentially millions of people who got injected and are now brain-damaged.

While it may not be a foolproof way to undo all of the damage caused by the injections, sulforaphane, a sulfur-containing biomolecule found in broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables (i.e., cauliflower), is still an amazingly powerful wonder phytonutrient with incredible potential to reverse spike protein damage. Published in the journal Genesis, the paper, entitled “Effects of sulforaphane on neural stem cell proliferation and differentiation,” reveals how sulforaphane has significant ameliorative properties that can address an extensive range of underlying pathological disturbances associated with neurodegenerative disease.

Such disturbances include oxidative stress, inflammation, perturbed calcium homeostasis, and neuronal death, to name just a few. And one of the ways sulforaphane is believed to do this is by stimulating neural stem cell (NSC) activity in the following ways:

• By upregulating nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), which increases innate antioxidant mechanisms

• By suppressing interleukin-1b (IL-1b), which exerts anti-inflammatory effects

Sulforaphane is a distinct phytochemical that has the potential to treat over 200 health conditions

The study looked specifically at whether or not sulforaphane confers neuroprotective benefits through its WnT signaling properties. Wnt signaling has previously been identified as a key molecular pathway involved in tissue regeneration.

For their investigation, researchers investigated the optimal range of sulforaphane needed to promote NSC growth while also protecting healthy neurons against damage. They found that sulforaphane concentrations of less than 5 nM can promote the growth of NSCs while also limiting or preventing cytotoxic damage.

They also determined that sulforaphane does, in fact, modify genes through the Wnt signaling pathway as suspected and that exposing NSCs to sulforaphane causes differentiation in neurons. This further supports the hypothesis that sulforaphane has the potential to stimulate brain repair.

It turns out that sulforaphane is also an Nrf2 inducer, which together with its Wnt-activating properties makes it distinct from other phytochemicals in terms of its brain-healing potential.

“The effects of SFN in restoring Wnt signaling provides a wealth of opportunities for the treatment of stem-cell-related diseases characterized by suppressed Wnt signaling,” the researchers wrote in their conclusion.

“In summary, we demonstrated that the crucifer-derived SFN can effectively stimulate NSC proliferation and differentiation by modifying genes in the Wnt signaling pathway. Due to its lipophilic property and low molecular weight, SFN has a high bioavailability as an orally administered drug.”

SFN is, of course, not a drug. It is a nutrient found naturally in food, and it can also be purchased as a supplement. For research purposes, however, SFN and other food-based compounds are often referred to as “drugs” when they possess therapeutic properties.

The best and easiest way to obtain sulforaphane in therapeutic amounts is to consume broccoli sprouts, as full-grown broccoli does not contain as much of the nutrient – though it is still beneficial to eat regular broccoli, just to be clear.

“Considering that sulforaphane is a naturally occurring biomolecule which has been part of the human diet since time immemorial, it is likely that its regular consumption via culinary practices delivers physiologically significant quantities in a delivery system – food – that is safe and effective in the prevention of disease,” says health expert Sayer Ji.

Many Islamic supremacists argue that murder and abuse happen in every culture and country and that there is nothing “honorable” about violence and killing people. Yes to both points. But what they don’t tell you is that honor murder and violence are prevalent mostly in Islamic countries and India. In the latter, it is not religiously inspired.

In the Sunni Sharia manual Reliance of the Traveller, section o1.2 lists justifiable instances of murder, i.e., those for which the murderer is not to be punished. #4 specifies that a parent may kill his or her child without suffering any punishment:

• A child or insane person, under any circumstances
• A Muslim for killing a non-Muslim
• A Jewish or Christian subject of the Islamic state for killing an apostate from Islam
• father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring

In like manner in Shia Islam, the Grand Ayatollah Khomeini, a supreme Shia religious authority, stated in his book A Clarification of Questions (Westview Press, Boulder, Colorado, 1984, p. 429) that in order to be punished, the murderer must not be a father or grandfather of the victim. Incidentally, Ayatollah Khomeini stated in Tahrirolvasyleh (Fourth Edition, Darol Elm, Qom, 1990) in his guide for Muslims about raping children:

A man can have sexual pleasure from a child as young as a baby. However, he should not penetrate. If he penetrates and the child is harmed then he should be responsible for her subsistence all her life. This girl, however would not count as one of his four permanent wives. The man will not be eligible to marry the girl’s sister.

Even Amnesty International recognizes the rampant issue of “honor killing”/“honor” violence and describes it as follows.

Honor killings are based on the deeply rooted belief that women are objects and commodities, not human beings entitled to dignity and rights equal to those of men. Women are considered the property of male relatives and are seen to embody the honor of the men to whom they “belong”. Women’s bodies are considered the repositories of family honor.

The five-year-old child who was assaulted in Syria and then murdered by her own parents suffered immensely from her attacker, and her parents, whom she trusted as her protectors, proved no less savage than her attacker. But the West screams “Islamophobia” while ignoring the most heinous brutalities inspired by Islamic texts against innocent people. Politically correct leaders and their supporters never ask the question: what kind of Muslim will not join human rights advocates in the open condemnation of abuses committed in the name of Islam? A five-year-old girl who was raped by a stranger has been murdered by her family in a so-called ‘honour killing’, according to reports.

The young girl’s parents allegedly killed their daughter in ‘cold blood’ after she was kidnapped and raped by an unidentified man in the Al-Shahba area of Syria on November 18.

The child’s body was found in a garbage container in Manbij, north Syria, on January 27 before being transferred to Al Furat Hospital which lies in eastern Aleppo.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) have said that Internal Security Forces have arrested several family members of the girl.

The girl’s parents have denied killing their daughter and investigations are ongoing, the SOHR added.

The five-year-old was kidnapped by a stranger who was riding a motorbike after she left her house to meet her father in the local olive orchards.

After a search, the girl was found near a road between the Deir Jamil and Kafr Naha villages, according to the SOHR.

It has not yet been confirmed when the girl was killed.

The SOHR has now called for the authorities to ensure the child’s killers stand trial amid a spate of so-called ‘honour killings’ in the country.

In July last year a girl was dragged to an abandoned house and shot by her tribe in a so-called ‘honour killing’ after she tried to run away with her lover and refused to marry her cousin in Syria.

A video circulated online showed the young woman, who was identified as 18-year-old Eida Al-Hamoudi Al-Saeedo, being shot in a desolate village on the outskirts of the northeastern Syrian city of Al-Hasakah.

The young woman had tried to run away with her lover but her family and tribe followed her before capturing her, Akhbaralaan.net reported.

Eida, who was from the city of Al-Hasakah, had been taken to the abandoned house by her father and brother, along with other men from the Al-Sharabain tribe according to the news site Alarabiya.

She had been starved and beaten for many days before being executed by her family, according to the Violations Documentation Center in northern Syria, which identified Eida as the victim of the attack……

ABUJA, Nigeria (Morning Star News) – Fulani herdsmen on Sunday (Jan. 30) killed 11 Christians in an attack in northern Nigeria, sources said.

Danjuma Enoch said his grandmother, known as Mama Fide, was burned to death in the attack at 3 a.m. in southern Kaduna state’s Kurmin Masara village, Zangon Kataf County.

“Grandma was unable to escape when the attack took place because she was very old and blind,” Enoch told Morning Star News. “While other people scampered to escape, grandma stayed back in her room which served as her last save haven.”

He said the assailants were Fulani herdsmen, and that Fulanis have mounted numerous assaults in the area.

“Grandma was our surviving grandmother and a great-grandmother to many of our younger ones,” Enoch said. “We can only imagine how horrible it was for her to breathe her last this way after living long into her old age. Painful and sad. Grandma’s blood will surely rise and speak against her killers and their sponsors.”

Area resident Moses Zamani Kambai also said the assailants were Fulanis, and that they burned down many houses.

“The herdsmen burned down the Kurmin Masara community almost completely,” Kambai told Morning Star News. “So far nine corpses have been recovered, including that of Mama Fide, who was burnt to death inside her room. Other missing Christian victims are still being sought.”

Fulani herdsmen attacked several times in January, he said.

“Some of these evil happenings are under-reported, and many don’t get reported at all,” Kambai said. “We call on the government to double its fight against the terrorists in those communities affected.”

Kaduna state spokesman Samuel Aruwan said 11 people were killed in the attack, several others were wounded and more than 30 properties were set ablaze. He identified the slain as Elizabeth Ayuba, Veronica Auta, Bege Daniel, Kephas Waje, Promise Jacob, Damaris Istifanus, Hauwa Joshua, Dogara Gambo, Lidia Ishaya, Michael Achi and Gabriel Michael.

“Troops of the Nigerian Air Force Special Forces who responded to distress calls from the area also fell into an ambush as they mobilized to the scene of the attack,” Aruwan said. “The troops cleared the ambush and reached the general area, along with troops of Operation Safe Haven.”…

Texas Heartbeat Law Has Cut Abortions in Half, Saved 15,000 Babies

A Texas law effectively banning abortion of babies with detectable heartbeats appears to have saved the lives of 15,000 babies since taking effect five months ago, according to statistics from the Texas Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC).

The Texas Heartbeat Act requires abortionists to screen for a preborn baby’s heartbeat and prohibits abortion if a heartbeat can be heard (generally as early as six weeks), with exceptions only for medical emergencies. It relies on a unique enforcement mechanism, which “exclusively” empowers private citizens to bring civil suits against abortionists instead of state prosecutions. The law does not protect babies prior to them developing a detectable heartbeat.

The Act was swiftly challenged in court but allowed by the Supreme Court to remain in effect while arguments work their way through the lower courts. In the meantime, the law has induced abortion chains Planned Parenthood and Whole Woman’s Health to temporarily suspend abortions past six weeks in the state.

This week, HHSC released a report finding that abortions had dropped from 5,404 in August 2021 to 2,197 in September, the month the Texas Heartbeat Act took effect, a reduction of 60%. Daily abortions also dropped from approximately 160 to 70. Overall, Texas Right to Life (TRTL) estimates that the law has saved 15,000 babies since taking effect.

“The success of the Texas Heartbeat Act is embodied by every child saved. For over 150 days, our work has saved an estimated 100 babies per day,” TRTL Media & Communication director Kimberlyn Schwartz said. “Our impact is only just beginning as more states seek to replicate our success and as we look to the Mississippi case that could overturn Roe this summer.”

“Anti-Life critics of the Texas Heartbeat Act have been adamant that the new law will put women in danger, and that preventing them from receiving early abortions would require them to seek later abortions due to a medical emergency,” TRTL writes. “On the other hand, some Pro-Life skeptics of the Texas Heartbeat Act asserted that abortionists would circumvent the law by carrying on business as usual and reporting everything as being a ‘medical emergency.’”

“However, the actual data reveal both of these fears to be untrue,” the group notes, as only one abortion was reported in September to have occurred between 17-20 weeks, and it was a case citing an immediate risk to the mother’s life. “The fact that medically emergent abortions have not increased proves that they are not surging in necessity and that they are not being used as excuses.”

Across the nation, pro-lifers are watching the Supreme Court with anticipation for eventual final resolution of the legal battle over the Texas law, which is likely to eventually be appealed to the justices again, as well as a ruling on Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban, which could result in a long-awaited overturn of Roe v. Wade that would allow states to directly ban abortion at any point in pregnancy, without having to rely on novel enforcement mechanisms like the Texas law.

Virginia Governor, AG, School Chief Side With Loudoun County Parents in School Mask Mandate Lawsuit

Virginia’s governor, attorney general, and the superintendent of public instruction have asked to join a lawsuit on behalf of parents fighting to opt their children out of mask mandates at school.

The lawsuit was filed Tuesday by three families against Loudoun County Public Schools, one of Virginia’s public school districts that insist on requiring students to wear a mask in school buildings in defiance of Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s order.

Just hours after his inauguration on Jan. 15, Youngkin signed an executive order to make masks optional in schools across the state. But the Loudoun County School Board voted to support Superintendent Scott Ziegler’s decision to keep the mask requirements in place, citing COVID-19 concerns.

The suing parents argued in the complaint that the decision is neither rational nor scientific, noting that many adults, who are at higher risks from COVID-19, have already returned to their pre-pandemic lives.

“The board continues to demand that [students] wear restrictive facemasks for up to seven or eight hours a day—imposing physical, psychological, and developmental consequences that could be severe,” the complaint reads. “Virginians are currently free to eat at restaurants, stroll shopping malls, go bowling, watch the NFL playoffs at a local tartan, and engage in innumerable other indoor activities—all without wearing masks. Yet children in Loudoun County’s public schools remain trapped in 2020-era pandemic policies that are increasingly difficult to justify.”

On top of that, the parents argued that the school district has violated Virginia state law, which guarantees a “fundamental right” for a parent to “make decisions concerning the upbringing, education, and care of the parent’s child.”

In an announcement on Wednesday, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares said he has joined Gov. Youngkin and Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow to file a motion to be part of the lawsuit on the parents’ side.

“After nearly two years in this pandemic, we have better risk mitigation strategies and vaccines, and we know much more about the efficacy of requiring children to wear masks all day,” the announcement reads. “Parents know what is best for their children and should be able to decide if their children wear a mask for eight hours a day.”

Youngkin’s executive order also faces legal challenges from other school boards, who argue that the mask-optional policy is in violation of a law passed during the Ralph Northam administration.

SB 1303, signed into law by Northam last year, requires that school districts provide full-time in-person instruction and follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) guidance “to the maximum extent practicable.” The CDC still recommends universal indoor masking in schools.

Interestingly, the Loudoun County parents also cited SB 1303 as part of the legal basis of their challenge against universal mask mandates, since their children have been denied in-person instruction for not wearing masks.

In messages sent to parents, schools in the Loudoun County school system warned that refusal to wear a mask in school will result in immediate suspension. Any students “who willfully continue to refuse to follow COVID mitigation measures as required by Loudoun County Public Schools will be suspended from school” for “disobedience” and “defiance,” according to the letters reviewed by The Epoch Times.

  • 28-year-old Katrina Hermez from the U.K. is asking for help after being severely injured following her first dose of Pfizer Inc.’s Covid-19 mRNA gene therapy vaccine.
  • A video posted to Twitter shows Katrina in a hospital bed suffering through a seizure (see below), one of the many side effects caused by coronavirus vaccines.
  • The Twitter post was a mirror of Katrina’s Instagram post, in which she described her traumatic experience.
  • “I was a normal 28-year-old girl, who ran her own spa business from home, did art, kept physically fit, and felt well within myself every day,” Katrina wrote. “In June 27th, 2021 I made the decision like millions of other people to have the covideo Pf👁zer v 💉 because I believed, (as don’t forget…we were told) this would protect us and the people around us. Now a proven lie.”
  • “And 5 days later my injury symptoms began,” she said.

BACKGROUND:
