LCHS Press Conference on COVID Vaccine Mandate & Announcement on 'Pause' of Baby Deliveries at LCGH

During a 1 PM press conference, Lewis County Health System CEO Jerry Cayer announced that due to the number of resignations received as a result of the recent COVID-19 vaccine mandate for health care workers in New York, the maternity unit at Lewis County Hospital will be unable to safely maintain staffing levels after September 24, resulting in no choice but to "pause" delivering babies at the hospital effective September 25. Mr. Cayer said that across the health system there remain 165 employees that have not yet received a first dose of the vaccine, as required by September 27th. Depending on the decisions of these employees, further services may be impacted in the coming weeks. The hospital has already had 30 resignations recently by employees choosing not to receive the vaccine.
