Celebrate diversity! What could possibly go wrong, you racist, bigoted “Islamophobe”?

“Dem Tells High School Grads They’re Entering A World Of ‘Capitalism’ and ‘White Supremacy,’ Encourages Them To Remember ‘Jihad’ And Reject Objectivity,” by Luke Rosiak, Daily Wire, June 11, 2021:

A school board member gave a graduation speech in which she told a mainly-immigrant class of high schoolers that they were entering a world filled with “racism, extreme versions of individualism and capitalism, [and] white supremacy,” and encouraged them to remember their “jihad” and reject the concepts of objectivity and neutrality.

Fairfax County school board member Abrar Omeish gave the keynote address at the commencement for Justice High School in Falls Church, Virginia on June 7.

The ceremony began with a ceremony in which JROTC military cadets were the only people at the graduation who wore masks.

The class president then led what she called “the nation’s anthem,” referring to the pledge of allegiance, in which she said the U.S. was “one nation under Allah.” Omeish was out of view of the camera, but a picture from another recent graduation shows her as the only person without her hand over her heart during the pledge.

The president of the student government then introduced Omeish by noting that she was “Virginia co-chair for the Bernie Sanders campaign” and that her father, Esam Omeish, was a “leader and a board member of the Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center” who “raised his daughter to be an outspoken woman.”

Dar al-Hijrah is a mosque attended by two of the 9/11 hijackers as well as the shooter in the 2009 attack on Fort Hood. Its imam was Anwar al-Awlaki, who President Barack Obama ordered killed by drone strike for plotting terrorism for Al Queda. Omeish noted that her father was in attendance at the graduation.

Her address seemed to herald the schools’ roles as political indoctrination centers. “You all kicked off the first ever black history month assembly to ensure that we confront our history and answer honestly about the ills of our past,” she said….

Much of the speech appeared designed to signal that she is unrepentant for a recent tweet in which she called Israel a colonizing state that “desecrates the Holy Land” and “kills Palestinians.”

She indicated that she feels similarly about America, saying “let us acknowledge the stolen land of the Manahoac people,” referring to a Virginia native American tribe.

She lamented the “child forced to question and hate the faith they love because of bullying,” frequently slipping into Arabic in her speech.

Some of her fellow members on the all-Democrat school board have offered tepid criticism of her comments on Israel, but in her graduation speech, she encouraged graduates not to let that kind of thing bother them.

“The world may try to quiet you by deciding for you what’s cool, what’s weird, what is or isn’t objective. It may try to convince you that what you hold dear is too different to be accepted. But who gets to decide? You are walking into a world that will be uncomfortable when you seek to cause good trouble. And that may seek to intimidate you or make you think the truth is controversial,” she said.

“Every part of your being may scream in rage at the ways others have wronged you,” but “let compassion for your fellow human beings, not anger or rage — and believe me this is hard to do — fuel you,” she said.

“No matter how many haters emerge, I’m sure you’ve encountered them yourselves, and believe me they’re a sign you’re unsettling the status quo towards justice. Just consider them your cheerleaders of another breed,” she said.

In her introduction, the student leader said Omeish faced “hatred for speaking truth to power about the Palestinian experience” but “continues to overcome and be an example so that young leaders like us will do the same.”

The introduction from a student also stated that “two years ago [Omeish’s] civil rights were violated by the police due to her appearance; she was attacked and discriminated against.” That entire incident is on video, which shows that an officer pulled over her car after watching her run a red light from a distance, from which her appearance was not visible. She repeatedly refused to show her license and then refused to get out of the car, leading to her arrest….

Asheville, North Carolina Approves Slavery Reparations

The city of Asheville, N.C., will now be paying slavery reparations to its black residents after the city council approved the sale of city property to fund it, reports Just The News.

The mostly white community will ultimately spend $200,000 on the planning and community engagement process, and $1.9 million on “initial” reparations.

The funding was approved without debate.

Asheville City Manager Debra Campbell is overseeing the planning and community engagement process. Campbell told the city council she launched a speaker series centered around reparations.

“We truly want to have a better understanding of what has been the policies that either currently exist or have existed in the past that have impacted the lives, particularly of black people in Asheville,” Campbell said. “We want to identify and understand the current disparities in the needs and what we should really be focusing on.”

Just The News notes that “Black workers in Asheville made an annual mean wage of $27,998 between 2012 and 2016. White workers made more than any other racial group in Asheville within the same time, with an annual mean salary of $43,553.”

Ashville has a population of approximately 93,350 people, and according to the U.S. Census, 11 percent of the population (approximately 10,270 people) is black. It is not clear what form the reparations will take, but equal single payments to each black resident would come out a mere $185 per person. While it seems unlikely this is the form Asheville’s reparations will take, perhaps the bigger question is: What does the city of Asheville think these reparations will accomplish? Will Asheville’s black residents be exempt from affirmative action after receiving these reparations? If not, what exactly is the point of the reparations? Is it really to help Asheville’s black population, none of whom ever personally experienced slavery in America, or the Asheville City Council, which gets to virtue-signal their wokeness at the cost of $2.1 million?

Garland Announces DOJ Campaign Against Voter Integrity Laws

On Friday, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that he would use the Department of Justice (DOJ) to target “new laws that make it harder to vote,” like the Georgia law President Joe Biden called “Jim Crow on steroids.” Garland falsely claimed that courts and intelligence agencies had “refuted” 2020 election integrity concerns, suggesting that the laws to restore election integrity are based on “disinformation” and even racism.

“There has been a dramatic rise in legislative efforts that will make it harder for millions of citizens to cast a vote that counts. So far this year, at least 14 states have passed new laws that make it harder to vote, and some jurisdictions, based on disinformation, have utilized abnormal post-election audit methodologies that may put the integrity of the voting process at risk, and undermine public confidence in our democracy,” Garland declared.

He noted that the DOJ Civil Rights Division has sent letters expressing concern that audits into the 2020 election may violate provisions of the Voting Rights Act, particularly one provision that bars intimidation of voters. He did not explain how an audit of votes already cast can intimidate voters who have already voted.

Garland pledged to fight voter fraud, but he repeated the tired line that 2020 election integrity concerns had been “refuted.”

“As part of its mission to protect the right to vote, the Justice Department will, of course, do everything in its power to prevent election fraud and if found, to vigorously prosecute it,” the attorney general pledged. “But many of the justifications proffered in support of these post-election audits and restrictions on voting have relied on assertions of material vote fraud in the 2020 election that have been refuted by law enforcement and intelligence agencies of both this administration and the previous one, as well as by every court, federal and state, that has considered them.”

While law enforcement and intelligence agencies declared that there was no evidence of widespread voter fraud, that does not amount to a refutation of election integrity concerns. In fact, Time Magazine published an astonishing story about a “cabal” and a “shadow campaign” that pulled the levers behind the scenes in the 2020 election. While the article claims these efforts aimed at preserving a free and fair election, organizations like the Center for Tech and Civic Life funneled money into blue areas of the country, boosting turnout that helped Biden prevail.

Across the country, officials loosened voter safeguards in the name of allowing people to vote amid a pandemic. The election integrity laws in various states represent efforts to ensure that only legal voters vote, to restore the status quo pre-pandemic, and to prevent the kind of “shadow campaign” Time exposed.

Yet Garland echoed the racialist rhetoric of Biden in announcing his effort to combat these laws.

“We are scrutinizing new laws that seek to curb voter access, and where we see violations, we will not hesitate to act,” Garland said, The Hill reported. “We are also scrutinizing current laws and practices in order to determine whether they discriminate against Black voters and other voters of color.”

The attorney general pledged that the DOJ would double the number of attorneys working on voting rights issues in the next 30 days. (Trump had left the department with 15 voting rights lawyers, about half the number under Obama.)

Contrary to Garland’s suggestions, voting integrity laws aim at restoring confidence in elections, not undermining it. The 2020 election involved a great deal of irregularities, from ballot drop-boxes with insecure chains of custody to the widespread mailing of mail-in ballots using outdated voter lists. Efforts to secure ballots from potential fraud are not based on disinformation or racism, but on legitimate concerns.

Yet it seems the Biden administration is intent on not just using baseless hyperbole to condemn election integrity efforts, but on weaponizing the DOJ to find pretexts to declare election-integrity measures illegal.

Federal Reserve Tells Employees Not to Use Terms Like ‘Founding Fathers’

republished below in full unedited for informational, educational & research purposes:

Employees of the Federal Reserve received some guidance from the Board of Governors back in April on how to communicate properly both in-house and with the public. As you might expect, it was an adventure in wokeness.

“Try to avoid words and phrases that may be considered offensive, pejorative, or prejudiced (whether consciously or unconsciously), as these can distract your audience from the ideas/information you’re trying to convey,” the guidance explained.

For most rational, sane human beings, it’s “distracting” to have this painfully conscious attempt to rid the language of  perceived “bias.” In fact, it’s downright jarring when you’re forced to try and understand why someone wouldn’t want to communicate as clearly as possible.

Fox News:

The guidance contains a list of “biased terms” to avoid, including “blacklist,” “grandfathered,” and “Founding Fathers.” Employees are instructed to use terms like “denied,” “legacy,” and “Founders” instead.

The Fed also said the terms “whitelisted, “manpower,” “manmade,” and “singular generic pronouns” – such as “he,” she,” “his,” and “hers” – should be replaced with more “bias-free” alternatives like “allowed,” “artificial,” and pronouns such as “they,” “their” and “theirs.”

This is not an attempt to eliminate “bias.” The bias will be there no matter what words are used. It’s silly to imagine otherwise. This is no less than an attempt to eliminate gender distinctions and mutilate the language to make it incomprehensible.

Only then can we be properly instructed in what something really means.

Related: Here’s How We Counter the Woke Revolution

What makes this effort so ridiculous is that advocates of bias-free language are dealing with hundreds of years of usage. It’s become part of the way we communicate. No one can change that by simply issuing “guidance,” or writing a memo or a book, and ordering the change.

King Canute would have had better luck ordering the tide not to come in.

Such speech codes are more frequently found on college campuses, where they have caused controversy, though they have become more common at government entities.

San Diego officials in 2016 had to walk back similar guidance, which instructed city employees not to use the term “Founding Fathers,” before it was scrapped.

We refer to the “Founding Fathers” because it is universally accepted that the group of colonists who gathered in Philadelphia in 1776 and created the United States out of an idea were all male. That’s not to say there weren’t females influencing the proceedings. Abigail Adams would rightly take offense at that. But at the time of America’s founding, women were condemned to a subservient public role.

The fact that it was terribly unfair doesn’t change the history of the time, no matter how woke modern sensibilities might be.

Oftentimes, advocates for eliminating bias from language simply want change for the sake of change. They are the enemies of tradition. All change is not good, just like all traditions are not good. Most people can discern where the truth lies and should be free to continue using language that is universally accepted in order to effectively communicate ideas.

Otherwise, we’re going to become the Tower of Babel on steroids.
