Bribed: How Hostile Foreign Actors Subvert American Universities

Can you guess where the billions of unreported “donations” come from?

A recent governmental report exposes the “purchased” influence foreign nations have on America’s most prestigious universities and, as a result, on what America’s current and upcoming generations of analysts and policymakers  think and believe.

More than one-third of the nearly $20 billion in foreign donations and contracts made to American universities between just 2014 and 2020 were never disclosed as required by federal law, according to “Institutional Compliance with Section 117 of the Higher Education Act of 1965,” a Department of Education report released on October 20, 2020.

Among those “gifts” were more than $3 billion from the Muslim Brotherhood’s number one state backer, Qatar; more than $1.1 billion from the chief disseminator of “radical” Islamic ideology, Saudi Arabia; and nearly $1.5 billion from China.

According to the report:

[A]t least some of these foreign sources are hostile to the United States and are targeting their investments (i.e., ‘gifts’ and ‘contracts’) to project soft power, steal sensitive and proprietary research, and spread propaganda. Yet, the Department is very concerned by evidence suggesting the higher education industry’s solicitation of foreign sources has not been appropriately or effectively balanced or checked by the institutional controls needed to meaningfully measure the risk and manage the threat posed by a given relationship, donor, or foreign venture.

This new report follows earlier initiatives. In March 2019, an event described as a “Three-Day Anti-Israel Hate-Fest,” was sponsored by the University of North Carolina’s Center for Middle East and Islamic Studies and the Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies. Following this event, the Department of Education warned the Consortium, in a letter dated August 29, 2019, to stop misusing federal grants by advancing “ideological priorities.”

According to the letter:

The Duke-UNC CMES appears to lack balance as it offers very few, if any, programs focused on the historic discrimination faced by, and current circumstances of, religious minorities in the Middle East, including Christians, Jews, Baha’is, Yadizis, Kurds, Druze, and others. Also, in your activities for elementary and secondary students and teachers, there is a considerable emphasis placed on the understanding the positive aspects of Islam, while there is an absolute absence of any similar focus on the positive aspects of Christianity, Judaism, or any other religion or belief system in the Middle East. This lack of balance of perspectives is troubling.

Similarly, a 2018 report found that “elite U.S. universities took more than half a billion dollars” from Saudi Arabia in gifts and donations between 2011 and 2017; as far back as 2005, Georgetown and Harvard each received $20 million “to support Islamic studies on their respective campuses.”

Here the question arises: why would nations such as Saudi Arabia — which treats women like chattel, teaches Muslims to hate all non-Muslims, arrests and tortures Christians “plotting to celebrate Christmas“; a nation that has crack units dedicated to apprehending witches and warlocks — why would it become a leading financial supporter of America’s liberal arts?

The answer seems to be so that foreign donors can influence what students are taught about the Middle East and Islam. The new report’s concerns, for example, regarding Georgetown University’s Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, which are paradigmatic of its overall concerns, are worth quoting at length:

[T]he Center could advance Islamic ideology in a fashion that belittles opposition, threatens academic integrity, and improperly influences future civil servants. The Center also received criticism for deceptively labeling itself as pluralistic; according to critics, the ‘Christian’ studies portion of the Center was a ‘misnomer’ as there was no Christian representation. Additional worries spawned from Saudi Arabian infiltration of an institution commonly known to siphon graduates into government employment. Such concerns were salient because the Saudi Arabians had communicated that their money would ‘follow’ the Center’s first Director. This strategy of funding a particular director [John Esposito] is concerning, as it would allow a foreign government unduly to guide the Center’s content.

This donation empowered the Saudi Arabian government to advance a particular narrative about Islamic society to the West via a legitimate Western institution like Georgetown University…..

The Saudi Arabian government had successfully impacted American foreign policy thinking through money alone. The Saudi Arabian government invested significantly into the dissemination of its favored ideological views at Georgetown University and several other U.S. academic institutions. Prince Alwaleed has made considerable international donations and has conducted similar soft power operations by creating Islamic studies centers at the University of Cambridge and Edinburgh University located in the United Kingdom, for examples. Prince Alwaleed’s controversial and political past, ranging from anti-Zionism to handsomely rewarding Saudi Arabians who participated in Yemen bombing raids, shadows him and his donations.

Prince Alwaleed’s agreement with Georgetown exemplifies how foreign money can advance a particular country’s worldview within U.S. academic institutions — influence that has often remained undisclosed to American taxpayers as required by Section 117.

While raking in and failing to report on these billions in foreign “gifts,” these same universities “depend on direct and indirect subsidies from U.S. taxpayers, including through Federal student loans that have encumbered Americans with staggering debt loads, to operate,” the report states. Even so, “the evidence suggests institutional decision-making is generally divorced from any sense of obligation to our taxpayers or concern for our American national interests, security, or values.”

In all spheres of life, education is an indicator of the potential for success; its opposite, ignorance — or worse, indoctrination in falsehoods — is an indicator of potential failure. The reason U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East has traditionally tended towards disaster may partly be — in addition to the elixir of wishful thinking — because policymakers and the advisors and analysts on whom they rely are products of programs in which benefactors are hostile to the United States.

 

Merck is Sued for Injuries Caused by Gardasil

Sahara Walker was only 11 years old in 2013 when she received the Gardasil vaccine that drastically changed her life, according to the attorneys who filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin against the New Jersey based pharmaceutical giant, Merck on Nov. 18, 2020. Prior to Gardasil, Sahara was a healthy young girl who achieved academic success in math, scoring in the top 97th percentile of Wisconsin students and was an active member in mathletes, advancing to the state competition.

After only one shot of Gardasil, together with the meningococcal and Tdap vaccines, Sahara’s health took a drastic turn for the worse. Within days of the shots, she suffered from headaches, vomiting, fatigue, cognitive impairment, excessive sleeping, body aches and fevers and, by the end of the month, she was bedridden and in a wheelchair. There were no more mathlete competitions as Sahara was left with no choice but to be homeschooled for the remainder of 6th grade through 12th grade.

‘My injuries from Gardasil have stolen so much from me’

Within a few years of that fateful day in 2013, Sahara was going to more than 50 doctor appointments a year and took as many as 55 pills a day. She currently receives Intravenous Immune Globulin (IVIG), which is a blood product made from pooling the serum of 1,000-15,000 plasma donors and takes 14 prescription medications. Sahara has been diagnosed with Neurocardiogenic Syncope (NCS), Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia (POTS), Orthostatic Hypotension (OH), Small Fiber neuropathy and Autoimmune Autonomic Neuropathy.1

Sahara stated:

My injuries from the Gardasil vaccine have stolen so much from me. Before the vaccine, the possibilities for my future were endless. Now, my life is full of accommodations and medical interventions. It’s not how any 19-year-old should have to live. I want to warn people of the potential for serious adverse reactions and let others who have been hurt know that they are not alone. I’m fighting for all of us.2

Sahara is far from alone in her suffering after receiving the Gardasil vaccine. There have been thousands of reports of young women being left with severe brain and immune system dysfunction, including hundreds of reports of deaths following Gardasil vaccinations.3 4 5 6 As of December 2020, there had been 45,710 reports of Gardasil vaccine reactions made to VAERS, with 7,017 reports of serious adverse events, including 789 that were life threatening, as well as 4,772 hospitalizations and 376 deaths after vaccination with Gardasil 4.7 In the year 2010 alone, there were 26 Gardasil-related deaths reported to VAERS.8

After Gardasil 4 was licensed by the FDA in 2006, the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) issued a series of reports in 2007 analyzing Gardasil adverse events being reported to VAERS.9 10 11 NVIC’s analyses revealed that there was a statistically significant increased risk of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) and other serious adverse events when Gardasil was simultaneously given with other vaccines, especially the meningococcal vaccine, Menactra. There was a 1,130 percent increase in GBS, a 674 percent increase in injuries from falls after loss of consciousness, a 234 percent increase in coordination and neuromuscular problems, a 118 percent increase in cardiac problems, a 114 percent increase in respiratory problems and a 30.1 percent increase in convulsions and central nervous system problems when the Gardasil and Menactra vaccines were given at the same doctor’s visit.12

Barbara Loe Fisher, co-founder and president of the NVIC, said:

Now we know from this report that there are more reactions and deaths associated with Gardasil than with another vaccine given in the same age group. It’s irresponsible not to take action.13

Merck’s action was to phase out the original Gardasil 4 vaccine and market Gardasil 9 in December 2014. Gardasil 9, which is supposed to protect against infection with 9 strains of HPV, has more than twice the amount of bioactive aluminum adjuvant.14 As of December 2020, there have been 14,025 reports to VAERS after vaccination with Gardasil 9, 787 with serious injury, 100 life threating, 550 hospitalizations and 31 deaths.15

Lawsuit Alleges Merck Knew Gardasil Was Defective

The lawsuit filed on behalf of Sahara Walker alleges that Merck was negligent, committed fraud and failed to warn patients posing “a substantial risk of significant harm to children and patients who were injected with the Gardasil HPV vaccine,” and that there were inherent manufacturing defects in the vaccine itself.16 The Complaint further alleges that Merck hid the inherent risks from the FDA and consumers and overstated the vaccine’s benefits, when there were no published studies demonstrating the vaccine prevented any type of cancer and that, “Merck negligently and fraudulently deprived parents and children of their right to informed consent.”

This assertion is supported by statements from one of the leading researchers of Gardasil vaccine, Diane Harper, MD, MPH, who has publicly stated that parents and young women should have more complete warnings prior to receiving the vaccine.17

According to the Complaint, Merck knew or had reason to know Gardasil is defective and ineffective, but instead of warning consumers about the dangers, the company wrongfully concealed information and further made false statements concerning the safety and efficacy of Gardasil.18

Routine Pap Smear Screening Successfully Prevents Cervical Cancer

There are over 200 types of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) with 12-18 strains (types) potentially associated with cervical cancer. Gardasil 4 claims to protect against four of those 200 strains with only two of the four strains associated with cervical cancer, while Gardasil 9 is said to protect against 9 strains.19 Current data shows that the vaccine is only effective for five years, however, children as young as 9 are being injected with Gardasil.20 There are questions about giving very young children a vaccine that may only confer five years of protection against cervical cancer, when the average age of cervical cancer diagnosis is 50 years old.21

Merck applied for fast-track status for Gardasil for the prevention of cervical cancer, even though the already available pap smear test is highly effective in preventing cancer when screening occurs on a routine basis as part of well care visits for women. Fast-track status is granted by the FDA to a manufacturer when there is an unmet need for a serious medical condition.22 Some health professionals have pointed out that there was no unmet need as far as detecting and preventing cervical cancer because the pap smear, which has no dangerous side effects, has been considered the most successful cancer screening test since it was developed in the 1920s and made a part of routine health care for women in the 1970s in the U.S.23

Studies Show Elevated Death Rate in Gardasil Clinical Trials

Vaccine manufacturers which receive a fast-track designation from the FDA may submit less data to the government prior to licensing and, in lieu of pre-licensure clinical trial data, can conduct “post-marketing” clinical studies after the vaccine is released for widespread public use.24 The Complaint alleges that Merck failed to disclose key material facts related the safety and efficacy of the vaccine both during the shortened clinical trial period and after the vaccine went on the market, and further alleges that Merck has never disclosed that Gardasil’s ingredients contain experimental viral DNA fragments (HPV LV1-DNA) that have never been approved by the FDA.25

The studies conducted during the fast-tracked pre-licensing period revealed an increase in the death rate of young women by almost double the national average in both the Gardasil group and the control group. The control group did not receive a true placebo but received the same bioactive aluminum adjuvant contained in Gardasil vaccine.

While the average death rate for young women aged 15-26 is 4.37 per 10,000 people, .23 percent of which can be attributed to cervical cancer, the death rate of the Gardasil study participants was 8.5 percent per 10,000. When looking at all of the studies Merck conducted on Gardasil, the death rate climbs to 13.3 percent per 10,000. Analysis of mortality date from Merck’s Gardasil trials suggests that a young woman is 58 times more likely to die following receipt of Gardasil vaccine than from cervical cancer.

Merck dismissed the increase in death rate among Gardasil study participants as “coincidence.”26 In 2019, Merck made $3.7 billion from global sales of Gardasil vaccine.27

The chief scientist for the U.S. government’s Operation Warp Speed (OWS) program aimed at facilitating development of COVID-19 vaccines confirmed on Dec. 1, 2020 that 10-15 percent of the volunteers, who participated in clinical trials to test the safety and effectiveness of experimental vaccines developed by Pfizer, Inc. (in partnership with BioNTech SE) and Moderna, Inc. (in partnership with National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases), reported “significantly noticeable” side effects.1

Dr. Moncef Slaoui, who leads OWS, which is a partnership involving private industry and agencies of the federal government,2 said that side effects suffered by clinical trial participants given Pfizer/BioNTech’s messenger RNA (mRNA) BNT162b2 vaccine and Moderna’s mRNA-1273 vaccine have included redness and pain at the injection site, along with fever, chills, muscle aches and headaches.1 3 4

Some Reactions Have Been Serious and Severe

Some of those reactions have been serious, including the case of 44-year-old Luke Hutchison of Utah who suffered a fever (over 100°F), chills, bone and muscle aches, a bad headache and shortness of breath after getting the second dose of the mRNA-1273 vaccine during a Phase 3 trial. Hutchison compared his symptoms “full-on COVID-like symptoms.”5

“I started shaking. I had cold and hot rushes. I was sitting by the phone all night long thinking: ‘Should I call 911?’” Hutchison said. “Nobody prepared me for the severity of this.”6

Another Phase 3 trial participant (a woman in her 50s) who received the mRNA-1273 vaccine suffered a migraine that “left her exhausted and struggling to focus.5 She said:

If this proves to work, people are going to have to toughen up. The first dose is no big deal. And then the second dose will definitely put you down for the day for sure. You will need to take a day off after the second dose.5

More than 40,000 and 30,000 volunteers participated in the now-completed Phase 3 trials for Pfizer’s and Moderna’s mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, respectively.3 4

In one of the earlier trials for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, more than half of the 45 participants experienced side effects, including two severe reactions—a Grade 3 fever of over 101.3°F two days after vaccination, and sleep disturbance one day after vaccination.7

Severe reactions were also suffered by several individuals in an early trial for Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine consisting of 45 participants—including the case of 29-year-old Ian Haydon of Seattle, Washington. Within 12 hours of receiving a second dose of mRNA-1273, Haydon came down with a fever of over 103°F. He sought medical care at an urgent care center.8

Vaccine Reactogenicity: The “Elephant” in the Room

“Somebody needs to address the elephant: What about vaccine reactogenicity?” asks Deborah Fuller, PhD, professor of vaccinology at the University of Washington in Seattle. “I feel like it’s being glossed over.”5

An independent analysis of Moderna’s Phase 3 trial determined that 9.7 percent of the participants suffered severe fatigue following vaccination, 8.9 percent suffered severe muscle pain, 5.2 percent suffered severe joint pain and 4.5 percent suffered severe headaches. An analysis of the Pfizer/BioNTech Phrase 3 trial found that 3.8 percent of participants suffered from severe fatigue and 2 percent of participants suffered severe headaches.5

Arnold Monto, MD, professor of epidemiology at the University of Michigan School of Public Health notes that these rates of severe reactions are higher than the public is used to. “This is higher reactogenicity than is ordinarily seen with most flu vaccines, even the high-dose ones,” Dr. Monto says. With Pfizer and Moderna planning to supply their COVID-19 vaccines to some 35 million people around the world by the end of this year, hundreds of thousands of people may experience severe reactions to these two vaccines alone.5

ACIP Calls for Transparency on Vaccine Side Effects that “Are not a walk in the park”

At a Nov. 20 meeting of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on medical issues, doctors urged the CDC and vaccine manufacturers to be transparent about the “rough side effects” people may experience after getting the initial dose of COVID-19 vaccines so that they are not scared away from getting the second dose.1

ACIP liaison from the American Medical Association (AMA) Sandra Fryhofer, MD stressed:

We really need to make patients aware that this is not going to be a walk in the park. They are going to know they had a vaccine. They are probably not going to feel wonderful. But they’ve got to come back for that second dose.1

What Will Be the Long-Term Side Effects?

Perhaps the biggest question concerning the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, as well as others, may be, “What will be the long-term side effects of these vaccines?” While Dr. Slaoui observed that the vaccines have produced short- to medium-term reactions, he indicated that there is no way to know what longer-term side effects such as autoimmune diseases may be. “[T]he very long-term safety [of the vaccines] is not yet understood by definition,” Dr. Slaoui said.1

As a recent article in USA Today pointed out, medical experts “still don’t know the long-term effects of the vaccines and won’t know until after the trials are completed and researchers monitor participants in the real world for years after.”9

Oprah Winfrey joined race-obsessed left-wing groups focused on incentivizing black Americans to vote for hard left democrats for a webinar Thursday. The event was blandly marketed as a forum to “discuss the Georgia Special Election,” but the ultimate goal is get a Senate majority in order to easily push a socialist agenda.

As previously reported at RAIR Foundation USA, some of the policies being promoted by the activists in Winfrey’s webinar include defunding police, open borders, restrictions on speech, tax-payer funded abortion without restrictions, a welfare state, massive taxes and amped-up Chinese coronavirus tyranny.

A mass email sent on December 2nd signed by Stefanie Brown James, co-founder of a subversive Clinton-tied group The Collective advertised the event. The panel discussion moderated by Oprah Winfrey featured representatives from the Soros-Funded “Black Voters Matter” group and the communist-tied “New Georgia Project” among others. The event was advertised under the hashtag #OWNYourVote.

Zoom With Oprah

One of the groups, the “New Georgia Project,” is currently “under investigation for improper registration activities,” as reported at the New York Post this week. The New Georgia Project was founded by failed gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams and was, until January, chaired by Rev. Raphael Warnock, who is running against Sen. Kelly Loeffler for the January 5th run-off election.

The Washington Free Beacon reported that Georgia Senate candidate Raphael Warnock “was listed as CEO of the New Georgia Project from 2017 until Feb. 21, 2020.” As a young man, Warnock served as a youth pastor at the radical Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem which hosted the late communist dictator Fidel Castro.

The Webinar largely consisted of Oprah Winfrey speaking with actress Kerry Washington discussing how excited they are that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won, which of course, they did not. Despite Oprah, the mainsteam media and the socialist groups’ assertion that the election was called for Joe Biden, the states have until December 14th to resolve disputes surrounding voter fraud.

Kerry Washington also promoted another event “Rock the Runoff” with Stacey Abrams. Oprah additionally spoke with Stefanie Brown James (The Collective), LaTosha Brown (Black Voters Matter), Nse Ufot (New Georgia Project), and Cheryl Lowery (The Joseph and Evelyn Lowery Institute). While the ladies appear to be concerned citizens looking to ensure voter participation, they are trained radicals.

Just today for example, participant and communist training school Rockwood alum LaTosha Brown tweeted about “police murders” and expressed anger at former President Barack Obama for his recent comments about the “defunding police” movement. Further, she sickeningly tweeted in part: “I live in a country where the ‘defund the Police’ statement is far more offensive than the actual killing of Black people.” (emphasis added)

Brown, of course, did not express concern for the police officers regularly attacked and killed by criminals.

On September 17, 2020, Democrat Congressman André Carson spoke on the U.S. House floor in support of Texas Representative Al Green’s resolution recognizing “Islam as one of the world’s great religions”. Indiana’s Rep. Carson has a long and controversial history of ties to dangerous and violent Islamic supremacist groups and individuals. Despite this, America’s Muslim community has not denounced Rep. André Carson or protested his role as their religious representative.

Since first being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in early 2008, this American-born convert to Islam has associated with organizations known to be front groups for the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood is a dangerous organization, seeking to destroy Western civilization from within and establish a global Islamic state. There goal is clearly expressed in their “Explanatory Memorandum” which details the Brotherhood’s long term plan for America:

“The lkhwan must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and “sabotaging” its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

Rep. Carson has been both funded by these jihadis, as well spoken at fundraisers on their behalf. Watch this short video compilation of Rep. André Carson addressing various U.S. Muslim Brotherhood groups over the past several years. Carson makes clear his goal of destroying America from within.

As reported by Center for Security Policy, the Islamic individuals and groups tied to Carson have a documented history of serving as unregistered foreign agents, supporting terrorism, and are tied to the Brotherhood’s Palestinian franchise, Hamas, a designated terrorist organization. Hamas Charter calls for Jews to be killed and Israel to be eliminated. In fact, Jews are mentioned in the Charter no less than 20 times and a famous Quranic prophesy to eliminate all Jewish people is in article Seven of the charter.

Rep. Carson’s antisemitism can be traced back to his early childhood. In 2008, Carson won his late grandmother’s, Julia Carson, seat to represent Indiana’s 7th District in a special election. Carson was raised by his controversial grandmother Julia. Throughout André’s life, his grandmother had a very close relationship with the antisemitic racist Nation of Islam leader, Louis Farrakhan. According to American Thinker, the night that Carson was born in 1974 his grandmother was with the the Islamic supremacist,

Andre’s wife stated that Farrakhan was with Julia the night her grandson was born in 1974. The anti-Semitic Nation of Islam leader who called white people “devils” told mourners at her funeral in 2007 “I was with her in her discipleship.”

While delivering his eulogy at Julie’s funeral, Farrakhan endorsed André’s campaign for his grandmothers congressional seat. “She lives in André,” he said “she wants him to succeed her” declared Farrakhan.

Farrakhan has a long hate-filled career including, praising Hitler, calling for the beheading of gays, blaming Jewish “bloodsuckers” for 9/11, referring to whites as devils and Jews as termites and claiming that Jesus called the Jews “the children of the devil.”

Despite Farrakhan spewing racist, anti-LGBTQ, antisemitic, misogynist rhetoric, Rep. Carson, like his grandmother, has embraced the Nation of Islam leader. In 2013, pro-Iranian Carson attended a dinner hosted by Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani (#1 state sponsor of global terrorism), where Nation Of Islam leader, Louis Farrakhan was also on hand.

In December 2016, Rep. Carson privately visited the radical Farrakhan in his hotel room. Despite calls for Carson to distance himself from and denounce Farrakhan, Caron has refused. Carson doubled down on his relationship and reported, he will not rule out future meetings with the Nation of Islam Leader. 

Carson also has his own long history himself of racism. At an August 22, 2011 Congressional Black Caucus event in Miami, Carson smeared the Tea Party as a racist group infested with white people who “would love to see” black people “hanging on a tree”.

While Carson has a First Amendment right to tell his racist lies and spread his hate, he is fighting to strip Americans of their rights to criticize Islam. Carson fights to implement deceptively named, “hate speech” laws criminalizing criticism of Islam. Vital questions about Islam are being deliberately mischaracterized as “hate” in oder to replace first amendment rights with sharia blasphemy laws.

This comes as know surprise, as Carson fought to have European Parliamentarian Geert Wilders banned from entering the United States over his immigration views and views on Islam. Meanwhile, he embraced Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, a sharia-adherent terrorist who leads crowds in, “Death to America, Death to Israel” chants.

If Jeffrey Epstein had been asked to give a speech on the House floor recognizing “Judaism as one of the world’s great religions”, there would be an uproar. The Jewish community would have quickly denounced him. Will the Islamic community denounce Rep. André Carson for his extremist and racist sentiments and ties to radical groups and jihadists?

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- Last week, Gov. Tom Wolf vetoed a pair of pro-Second Amendment bills that had passed both chambers of the Legislature with solid support.  The move was not unexpected, given that the anti-gun Governor has been unilaterally demonstrating his disdain for freedom and liberty for months.

Nevertheless, we want to thank the legislators who took a bold stand for the rights of Pennsylvanians. House Bill 2440 and House Bill 1747 had both passed the Senate in November on votes of 29-20 after easily clearing the House earlier this Fall.  These bills were written to protect constitutionally guaranteed rights during declared states of emergencies.

House Bill 2440, by Rep. Bill Kortz, would have designated shooting ranges, sportsman clubs, hunting facilities, and business relating to the sale or production of firearms and ammunition as life-sustaining.  House Bill 1747, by Rep. Matthew Dowling, would have prevented state and local governments from suspending or limiting the sale, dispensing, or transportation of firearms during a declared emergency.  It also would have removed the carry prohibitions that exist with exemptions.

COVID-19, and the closures occurring across much of the country, have forced a reexamination of statutes in many states with regard to declared states of emergency.  Citizens are guaranteed basic fundamental rights that should never be infringed, particularly in these tumultuous times.  We have witnessed firsthand the inability of the government to protect people, and it is absolutely essential that citizens be able to provide for their own self-defense, especially during a declared state of emergency. While Gov. Wolf's veto is disappointing, NRA will continue to fight for the rights of all Pennsylvanians.

Rudy Giuliani Tests Positive for COVID-19

President Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani has tested positive for the coronavirus. President Trump broke the news Sunday afternoon via Twitter.

Referring to Giuliani as “by far the greatest mayor in the history of NYC,” Trump announced that the former mayor and crimefighter “has tested positive for the China Virus.”

“Get better soon Rudy, we will carry on!!!” Trump added.

Giuliani is 76 years old, which puts him in the high-risk category for the virus. As of this writing, Giuliani has not addressed his diagnosis publicly.

Texas A&M Threatens Student with Investigation, Possible Discipline for Posting Trump Signs

The fifth-ranked Texas A&M Aggie football team whomped Auburn on Saturday, 31-20. But today there’s a question of whether Aggieland is losing its soul.

Campus Reform tells us about student Dion Okeke (Class of 2022) finding himself on the receiving end of a threatening letter from one Jessica Welsch, who is Student Code of Conduct Office Assistant Coordinator. In the letter, Welsch demands Okeke’s presence at a meeting in January regarding an “incident” that occurred in November 2020.

Okeke’s crime? He placed Trump signs on campus prior to the election. The campus police were aware, and after initially trying to stop him on a claim of “ground damage,” allowed him to proceed. But they or someone reported him to the university, involving Welsch’s office.

Welsch wrote to Okeke:

“In response to this information, I would like to meet with you to discuss the circumstances surrounding this incident, your perspective, and how you can be successful as a student at Texas A&M University,” Welsch wrote.

Okeke is “required” to reach out to the Student Conduct Office by phone before January 22, 2021 to schedule the meeting, or an “administrative hold [may be] placed on [his] registration.”

Attendance at the meeting is not optional for Okeke as Welsch cites the “possibility of Student Conduct Code charges being brought against [him].”

The letter is a first step in a process that can result in punishments including expungement from the university.

Okeke leads Students for Trump, one of numerous student groups around the massive campus of some 70,000 students. These groups all place signs for various activities and causes on the campus, which is allowed. There are no reports of any other group being keelhauled before the Student Code of Conduct Office. It has a staff of nine including Welsch, and is looking to hire more students.

Okeke and his group appear to have been singled out. The Trump-supporting student is black.

Assistant Coordinator Welsch has spent her university career as a monitor of student conduct at A&M, Appalachian State, and the University of Maryland. She says this in her LinkedIn profile:

I recently became a professional in Student Affairs, but my passion in education has been constant. As I work with students in Student Conduct, I thrive on the interactions surrounding ethics and value based decision making. My background in leadership education is deeply rooted in my philosophy.

Texas A&M’s record on student speech has been good up to recent times. The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) lauded the school this year:

Texas A&M University ranked No. 3 in the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education’s (FIRE) survey of college students about their experiences with free speech on campus. FIRE collaborated with RealClearEducation and College Pulse to conduct the survey at 55 colleges nationwide.

But Texas universities are experiencing and even launching woke attacks on free thought and speech. The University of North Texas launched an investigation of a music theory journal and its editors for defending a 19th-century composer from woke accusations of racism. Texas State University’s student government attempted to silence Turning Point USA and kick them off campus.

Both of these universities have long been regarded as liberal and largely hostile to conservatives. Texas A&M, on the other hand, remains a top engineering school and casts itself as more conservative. For it to crack down on free speech would be a significant and alarming development.

Earlier this year, an A&M student perpetrated a racist note hoax. That student was not hauled into the Student Code of Conduct office by Welsch or anyone else.

Okeke’s disparate treatment isn’t going unnoticed.

The Texas Legislature convenes its 87th legislative session in January 2021. It may be time to investigate tolerance for free speech on Texas’ taxpayer-funded public university campuses.

The Trump campaign is celebrating a huge legal victory after Circuit Judge Kevin Elsenheimer said he would allow investigators to conduct a forensic examination of 22 Dominion voting machines used on Election Day in Antrim County, Michigan.

“Our team is going to be able to go in this morning at about 8:30 and will be there for about eight hours to conduct that forensic examination and we’ll have the results in about 48 hours, and that’ll tell us a lot about these machines,” Trump election attorney Jenna Ellis told Fox News.

Rudy Giuliani called the order a “big win” for honest elections, though the legal challenge is actually not related to the presidential election. Judge Elsenheimer’s order stems from a challenge by a voter who claims that ballots were damaged during a recount of a village marijuana proposal that just barely passed. Antrim County infamously showed Joe Biden as the winner of the county before a “human error” was discovered and Trump was revealed the true winner of the county by several thousand votes.

Lawsuits allege that nearly 300,000 votes were manipulated in Michigan. Dominion “is responsible for “the injection or fabrication, of 289,866 illegal votes in Michigan, that must be disregarded,” says expert witness Russell Ramsland Jr.
