Did we just learn that New Jersey governor Phil Murphy didn’t mean a word of the oath of office he took in 2018? Back then he “solemnly” swore to “support” and “bear true faith and allegiance” to the United States Constitution.
Now he says “That’s above my pay grade” when asked if his Wuhan virus lockdown orders violate the Constitution.
The startling admission occurred Wednesday evening when Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson pressed Murphy, a first-term Democrat, “on the constitutionality of his recent executive orders that deem liquor stores essential and business and churches nonessential, which Murphy said he did not consider,” reports the Washington Examiner.
“‘As I noted before, 15 congregants at a synagogue in New Jersey were arrested and charged for being in a synagogue together,’” the Examiner relates, quoting Carlson. “‘Now, the Bill of Rights, as you well know, protects Americans’ right, enshrines their right, to practice their religion as they see fit and to congregate together, to assemble peacefully. By what authority did you nullify the Bill of Rights in issuing this order? How do you have the power to do that?’” Carlson continued.
“‘That’s above my pay grade, Tucker,’ Murphy responded, saying he ‘wasn’t thinking of the Bill of Rights when we did this,’” writes the Examiner.
“‘Well, I can tell,’ Tucker interjected” (video below).
Murphy is one of 42 governors who’ve “locked down” their states in response to the virus pandemic, actions threatening to collapse the U.S. economy and thrust us into a great depression, causing poverty and its related disease and death. Yet his interview, in which he danced around the questions, didn’t inspire confidence in his grasp of the problem.
But most shocking was Murphy’s confessed ignorance of what he, as a chief executive, is supposed to know: the Constitution. Below is video of Murphy taking the oath of office in 2018.
So now we should ask the governor: Were you lying when you swore on that Bible? How did you expect to uphold something above your pay grade? And just how much would we have to pay you (his net worth is currently $60-plus million) for you to bone up on civics?
Murphy likely got his line from Barack Obama, who answered a 2008 question about when a baby gets human rights with the “pay grade” remark (yet still, oddly, felt qualified to sign prenatal infanticide bills). But imagine if a doctor were asked about Hippocratic Oath imperatives and said, “That’s above my pay grade.” Would you hand your child over to him for care? Is he qualified to practice medicine?
In defending his religious-services ban, Murphy said he’d spoken to faith leaders and that they rubber stamped his measures. But this is irrelevant and a dodge. A governor’s violation of millions of people’s constitutionally protected rights isn’t legitimized just because other powerful people agree.
In other words, there may or may not be good reasons — and constitutional ones — for Murphy’s actions, but he didn’t provide them. He clearly doesn’t know what they might be.
Murphy had also recently tried “suspending” the Second Amendment, as some put it, until lawsuits made him back down. But he isn’t alone in ignorance of/indifference to constitutional principles. With the virus scare, we’ve “now witnessed local and state governments issue decrees about what people can and cannot buy in stores, arrest parents playing with their children in public parks, yank people off public buses at random, remove basketball rims along with private property, ticket churchgoers, and in one case try — and fail — to chase down a lone runner on an empty beach,” writes the Federalist.
“The most egregious example of this outpouring of authoritarianism was an attempt by Louisville, Kentucky, Mayor Greg Fischer to ban drive-in church services on Easter,” the site continued. “To remove all doubt about his seriousness, he also threatened arrest and criminal penalties for anyone who dared violate his order, and in an Orwellian twist, invited people to snitch on their fellow citizens.”
Thankfully, a shocked judge issued a restraining order against Louisville, writing, “The Mayor’s decision is stunning. And it is, ‘beyond all reason,’ unconstitutional.”
There have also been other instances of virus-enabled governments singling out and banning church services. In one Mississippi incident, a uniformed cop actually told a pastor that his “rights are suspended.”
One could easily chalk Murphy’s “pay grade” response up to bad word choice, but it’s more like a Freudian slip. The truth: Unschooled in civics and philosophy, moderns are generally indifferent to the Constitution, and the sub-species of moderns called “leftists” are often hostile to it.
Yet principles always matter, and they’re perhaps even more important in times of panic; they can temper rash action. But even in better times leftists see the Constitution as an impediment to their aims; thus have they conjured up the “living document” rationalization so they can (mis)interpret the document to fit their agenda.
Of course, it’s naïve thinking that leftists (and many others), who are fond of saying everything is relative, wouldn’t view the Constitution as relative and, therefore, meaningless. This came through loud and clear with Murphy, too. Once again, what he has done is perhaps less shocking than what he failed to do: consider, even for a moment, when issuing his decrees what he took an oath to uphold.
The real threat today is not a disease, but that we live in post-constitutional America. For a virus won’t destroy our republic. Tyranny can.

RICHMOND, Va. —The Democratic governor of Virginia, Ralph Northam, has signed into a law a bill that repeals several abortion regulations in the state, making it easier for women to end the lives of their unborn children.
“No more will legislators in Richmond — most of whom are men — be telling women what they should and should not be doing with their bodies,” Northam said in a statement. “The Reproductive Health Protection Act will make women and families safer, and I’m proud to sign it into law.”
Senate Bill 733 and House Bill 980, also known as the “Reproductive Health Protection Act” and sponsored by Sen. Jennifer McClellan, D-Richmond, and House Majority Leader Charniele Herring, D-Alexandria, remove requirements for mothers to obtain an ultrasound and to wait 24 hours before proceeding with an abortion.
They also allow nurse practitioners who are licensed by the Virginia boards of Medicine and Nursing to perform first trimester abortions.
“[I]t shall be lawful for any physician licensed by the Board of Medicine to practice medicine and surgery, or any person jointly licensed by the Boards of Medicine and Nursing as a nurse practitioner and acting within such person’s scope of practice, to terminate or attempt to terminate a human pregnancy or aid or assist in the termination of a human pregnancy by performing an abortion or causing a miscarriage on any woman during the first trimester of pregnancy,” the bills read.
McClellan and Herring referred to abortion as “medical” and “healthcare” decisions in a statement released by Northam’s office, in which the existing abortion regulations were referred to as being “anti-woman.”
According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the bill was highly debated in the legislature, and was only passed after Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, a Roman Catholic, broke a 20-20 tie in January by voting in favor of the measure.
Northam, a pediatric neurologist, drew controversy last year after suggesting that babies born with severe deformities or terminal conditions may be allowed to die post-natally, if such is decided between the mother and her doctor.
“When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of obviously the mother, with the consent of the physician — more than one physician, by the way — and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities. There may be a fetus that’s non-viable,” he said during a radio interview with WTOP.
“If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother,” Northam outlined.
Northam’s remarks surrounded a bill proposed by Del. Kathy Tran, D-Fairfax, which would have made it easier for an unborn baby to be killed up until birth should the pregnancy “impair the mental health of the woman.”
“How late in the third trimester could a physician perform an abortion if he indicated it would impair the mental health of the woman?” asked House Majority Leader and Subcommittee Chairman Todd Gilbert, R-Shenandoah.
“Or physical health,” Tran inserted.
“Okay. I’m talking about the mental health,” Gilbert noted.
“So, I mean, through the third trimester,” Tran replied. “The third trimester goes all the way up to 40 weeks.”
Gilbert then asked if that includes the end of the third trimester.
“Yep,” Tran confirmed. “I don’t think we have a limit in the bill.”
Gilbert, continuing to seek clarification, presented the scenario of a woman who is in labor.
“Where it’s obvious a woman is about to give birth — she has physical signs that she is about to give birth, would that still be a point at which she could request an abortion if she was so certified?” he inquired. “She’s dilating.”
Tran, appearing uncomfortable, responded that the matter would be up to the attending physician. Gilbert interjected that he was rather wondering if Tran’s bill would allow for such a situation.
“My bill would allow that, yes,” she admitted.
The measure, House Bill 2491, was subsequently struck down by Republicans in committee.
Virginia law currently allows for third trimester abortions, but with the agreement of three doctors that, absent an abortion, the pregnancy will “substantially and irremediably impair the mental or physical health of the woman.” The abortion must also be performed in a hospital.
Tran’s bill would have removed the mandate that there be a consensus among three physicians and that the abortion take place in a hospital.

Many Christians are opposed to merely regulating abortion but believe it should be made illegal altogether. However, Northam and Tran’s comments have been highlighted by pro-life groups to note the mindsets of abortion advocates.
The late preacher Lee Roy Shelton wrote in “The Crimes of Our Times” in a section on abortion:
“When killing anyone, the murderer is guilty of taking the life which God has given, and therefore he is ‘playing God’ by saying when and how a man should die. But God doesn’t look lightly upon those who try to take His place.”

It is a divine creation, mysterious and magnificent in its beginning and possibility, utterly beyond the control or comprehension of any human being. It is never to be taken away at the will of anyone, for how can they tell the full meaning of that life and what it will bring forth?”
“The revelation of God made to man out of His blessed Word proves that He has purposes for every individual and for the [human] race, stretching far beyond the present moment or manifestation; and to terminate a single life is to set yourselves up as wiser and superior to God. The immensity of the issues of death is so great that there can be no sin against humanity, and accordingly, against God, greater than that of taking a human life.”

Internal Chinese government documents obtained by the Associated Press prove that Chinese Communist President Xi Jinping knew for sure that the outbreak of coronavirus in China was an “epidemic” and was highly contagious between humans in mid January, yet simultaneously China told the World Health Organization (WHO) that there was no “evidence of human-to-human transmission.”
The documents show that Xi knew that the “risk of transmission and spread” was “high” yet the Chinese government sat on the information for almost a whole week.
The AP notes that the memos “show that the head of China’s National Health Commission, Ma Xiaowei, laid out a grim assessment of the situation on Jan. 14 in a confidential teleconference with provincial health officials.”
The memo quotes Ma as warning that “The epidemic situation is still severe and complex, the most severe challenge since SARS in 2003, and is likely to develop into a major public health event.”
In one part of the memo, entitled “sober understanding of the situation,” it is acknowledged that “clustered cases suggest that human-to-human transmission is possible.”
“With the coming of the Spring Festival, many people will be traveling, and the risk of transmission and spread is high,” the memo reads, adding “All localities must prepare for and respond to a pandemic.”
The information proves that the Chinese government lied to (or had the complicity of) the WHO, which sent out this infamous tweet about no human to human transmission on the same date, January 14, referenced in the Chinese documents:
Preliminary investigations conducted by the Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel #coronavirus (2019-nCoV) identified in #Wuhan, #China.
The documents clearly state that the true scale of the virus outbreak was “not to be publicly disclosed.”
The AP report notes that “In the six days after top Chinese officials secretly determined they likely were facing a pandemic from a new coronavirus, the city of Wuhan at the epicenter of the disease hosted a mass banquet for tens of thousands of people; millions began traveling through for Lunar New Year celebrations.”
“President Xi Jinping warned the public on the seventh day, Jan. 20. But by that time, more than 3,000 people had been infected during almost a week of public silence,” the report continues.
“This is tremendous,” said Zuo-Feng Zhang, an epidemiologist at the University of California, Los Angeles. “If they took action six days earlier, there would have been much fewer patients and medical facilities would have been sufficient. We might have avoided the collapse of Wuhan’s medical system.”
The information dovetails with previous studies that found the global pandemic could have been completely avoided, had China been up front with the true scale of the health crisis.
It has become clear that the first cases of the Chinese virus were reported in mid-late November and early December, with scientists even estimating that the first jump of the virus from animals to humans probably occurred in October in the city of Wuhan.
Instead of acting immediately, the Chinese government waited until January 23rd before issuing quarantine orders to the 11 million people living in Wuhan.

The communist state was also actively working to suppress and punish doctors and scientists who tried to get warnings out.

The US intelligence agencies have known about China’s subterfuge for some time now, with a classified intelligence report having been submitted to the White House in late March, concluding that China under reported the amount of coronavirus cases and deaths within its borders, and actively worked to conceal the severity of the outbreak.
Bloomberg News cited three officials familiar with the report, noting that “The officials asked not to be identified because the report is secret and declined to detail its contents. But the thrust, they said, is that China’s public reporting on cases and deaths is intentionally incomplete. Two of the officials said the report concludes that China’s numbers are fake.”
Indeed, it seems that China is STILL lying about the outbreak, with a new wave of the virus having hit the country.
As the world struggles to contain the coronavirus outbreak without triggering a new Great Depression, China is withholding vital information that would save lives and significantly alleviate the economic catastrophe that now threatens to immiserate hundreds of millions of people around the world.
This isn’t the old coverup, when Communist Party bumbling and deceit allowed a local outbreak to turn into the worst global disaster in decades. The new coverup is even more brazen. China continues to falsify vital information about the epidemic on a massive scale.
The evidence comes from many sources. In a classified report to the White House, the U.S. intelligence community has concluded that China underreports both deaths and the total number of cases. The Economist magazine compared China’s reported statistics with those from other countries and found that numbers changed dramatically in response to political events, such as the firing and replacement of local officials.
While it has been clear since January that China is lying about the virus, the western media, as well as the World Health Organisation continued to parrot Chinese government and state media talking points. The media in the US said it was a ‘conspiracy theory’ that China was downplaying the outbreak, and that the WHO was parroting that notion.
“There is a disgusting disinformation campaign going on and it is unacceptable,” an anonymous government source told The Daily Mail lin early April. “They [the Chinese government] know they have got this badly wrong and rather than owning it they are spreading lies.” the source added.
The former head of the US FDA declared earlier this week that China’s misinformation over the spread of the coronavirus needs to be investigated, while also noting that the World Heath Organisation validated Chinese lies in January, which ultimately doomed the globe into a pandemic.
The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) reported last week that a “conservative estimation” suggests there are 2.9 million coronavirus cases in China and up to 136,000 deaths. Yet according to official government figures, only 83,000 cases and 3,300 deaths have been reported.
Numerous virologists and experts have stated that the possibility needs to be investigated, with intelligence and government officials going on record as saying that they are investigating the matter.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, with a budget of more than $6 billion, was created to deal with emergency situations such as the coronavirus contagion. CDC Director Robert Redfield, has been “actively engaged in clinical research and clinical care of chronic human viral infections and infectious diseases” for more than 30 years. Even so, when the CDC held a February 25 telebriefing update on COVID-19, Dr. Redfield was not the host.
Dr. Nancy Messonnier, Director of the CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), fielded questions from the media. A reporter identified as Craig, from KNX 1070 news radio in Los Angeles, was curious about China.
“Is the Chinese government leveling with you?” Craig wanted to know. “Are they telling you the truth? Have they given you the straight dope, so to speak, as to what you need to know about the coronavirus?” Given the origin in Wuhan, China, Craig had posed a question of some significance.
“In terms of the Chinese government,” Messonnier responded, “there has been a WHO team on the ground in China as well in Wuhan. There are data coming out from those efforts. We have a lot of information from China.” Craig and other reporters would not get any of the information from China, but the response had been revealing.
The CDC’s Nancy Messonnier evidently considers the World Health Organization an official publicity agent for the Chinese government. As Craig and other reporters noted, Dr. Messonnier offered no judgement on the truthfulness of data from the WHO. None of the reporters asked if any of the “information from China” had been gathered by the CDC itself. A reporter identified as Ben from CNN was more concerned with the American government.
“This morning while he was traveling in India, President Trump said that he thinks that the coronavirus is a problem that is going to go away,” Ben from CNN said. “He seems very optimistic about this and we’re trying to figure out exactly why he believes so strongly that to be the case. And so my question for you is what information is your agency specifically giving the president and the White House about the current state of the coronavirus outbreak?”
“One hypothesis,” Dr. Messonnier said, “is that we could be hopeful that this could potentially be seasonal. Other viral respiratory diseases are seasonal including influenza and therefore in many viral respiratory diseases, we do see a decrease in disease in spring and summer. And so we could certainly be optimistic that this disease will follow suit.”
Asked for the “information” the CDC is giving the president, Dr. Nancy Messonnier invokes a “hypothesis,” a supposition based on limited evidence. Those at risk from the coronavirus might wonder about this CDC bureaucrat so optimistic about a single hypothesis, for which we could be hopeful.
As the CDC explains, Dr. Messonnier received her BA from the University of Pennsylvania and MD from the University of Chicago School of Medicine. No word of advanced degrees in molecular biology or cell biology, so strictly speaking, she is not a virologist.
Dr. Messonnier began her career with the CDC in 1995 as “an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer in the Deputy Director for Infectious Diseases (DDID).” The Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS), is on the “front lines” all over the world, even in China, but no intrepid EIS “officer” prevented the Wuhan virus from hitting American soil. The EIS is also missing from the CDC organizational chart, so the people might wonder who leads this mysterious “service” and how much public money it spends.
Dr. Nancy Messonnier joined the EIS as part of another CDC division, not exactly the “front lines,” and “led the Meningitis and Vaccine Preventable Diseases Branch in NCIRD’s Division of Bacterial Diseases from 2007-2012.” As it happens, the award-winning Nancy Messonnier is the sister of Rod Rosenstein, not much in the news of late but certainly a person of interest.
Rod Rosenstein is the former deputy attorney general who oversaw the Mueller probe and proclaimed himself willing to “wear a wire,” to trip up President Trump. The family connection led some to wonder if Nancy might exploit the coronavirus to damage the president in November, a kind of epidemic fall classic.
“Many people in the United States will at some point in time either this year or next be exposed to this virus and there’s a good chance many will become sick,” Messonnier said in a March 9 telebriefing. In that session, Tom Howell of the Washington Times asked about the link between travelers from China and coronavirus cases in Washington State.
“I think that’s an interesting hypothesis,” Messonnier said. “But there are alternate explanations of the same findings.” Dr. Messonnier did not elaborate on the “alternate explanations” and did not reveal any information the WHO team had gathered on China.

In defiance of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s draconian and tyrannical lockdown orders in the state, tens of thousands drove into the state capital city of Lansing yesterday to protest. Instead of listening to the citizens’ protest of her infringement of their constitutional rights, instead, she proceeded to blame and ridicule them.
Several county sheriffs, including four from North Michigan counties, have now publicly vowed to defy Whitmer’s “vague” orders and instead uphold the Constitution and defend civil liberties.
Michigan Live reported yesterday that “In a joint press release issued as thousands of residents protest at the state capital in Lansing, Leelanau County Sheriff Mike Borkovich, Benzie County Sheriff Ted Schendel, Manistee County Sheriff Ken Falk and Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole said they will not strictly enforce Whitmer’s orders in their counties.”
“While we understand her desire to protect the public, we question some restrictions that she has imposed as overstepping her executive authority,” the sheriffs wrote. “She has created a vague framework of emergency laws that only confuse Michigan citizens.”
Instead of strictly enforcing her orders, the sheriffs vowed to apply common sense and deal with every case individually.
“Each of us took an oath to uphold and defend the Michigan Constitution, as well as the US Constitution, and to ensure that your God-given rights are not violated,” the four sheriffs said. “We believe that we are the last line of defense in protecting your civil liberties.”
“Together, as a community, we will overcome this pandemic, and as Americans, we will persevere and come out stronger than before. As sheriffs of your community, we want you to know we have your back and will continue to serve the people who have entrusted us with your protection.”
Currently, Whitmer’s order is set to expire on April 30th but would likely be extended much further if actions are not taken to protect the civil liberties. But for Christians in particular, the right and God-given duty to assemble and support the faithful has been at an even greater risk.
Police and local governments have been taking a particularly hard stance around the country on Christians who, for whatever purpose they deem fit, choose to assemble for church services and other gatherings despite the warnings from the government against doing so. Left-wing activists are pouring nails into church parking lots to stop church-goers from having drive-in services, cops are being forced to break up small church services who are following the CDC’s social distancing guidelines, and prominent Southern Baptist leaders are joining the chorus of the far left calling church service “reckless.” And as this publication warned last week, some churches are already being banned by corporate media giants from streaming their services online.
But one denomination is publicly making it clear that they will not comply much longer and has penned an open letter to the federal, state, and local governments around the country warning them that if they don’t re-open the economy soon and begin removing these restrictions, they will be forced to act in civil disobedience to the restrictions placed upon them.
“Our desire is to be obedient to the civil magistrate,” Virgil Hurt, the Presiding Minister of Council of the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC) writes, acknowledging that the intensity of the pandemic did not pan out to be anywhere close to what was predicted by the medical experts, “However, we must also do what we believe God expects of us, what is best for our people and our communities, and what our consciences dictate. For our American members, The U.S. Constitution rightly affords us these rights of speech and assembly because they extend to us from God, Himself.”
The citizens of the United States and our congregants are already beginning to strongly feel the need to get back to regular living. While we do not currently have a date after which we will no longer comply with the extreme restrictions, we believe the time is now at hand for our leaders to stand down from the extreme isolation efforts, and the date after which we will no longer comply, is soon approaching, in days or weeks, not months.
The letter stated that the leadership and members of the denomination are praying for the governments and have acknowledged that many — including members of their churches — have been medically affected by the coronavirus, but that many more will likely be affected greater by the economic shutdown.

Andy Stanly has made a number of dubious claims about the Christian faith and in particular, the Scriptures. Famously stating that Christianity needs to “unhitch” from the Old Testament, he told his audience that the Ten Commandments don’t apply to Christians. He’s flopped on homosexuality — telling the mother of an openly-gay and practicing girl that her daughter was saved. He promotes the idea that even if you don’t believe in Jesus, you can have a better life by following his teachings. And rampages against the Scriptures telling people that they don’t need to feel like they should defend the Scriptures because they aren’t really that important and it isn’t what Christianity rests on.
Stanley has been criticized for his constant attacks on the Word of God and denial that the Scriptures are essential to Christianity, yet he doesn’t stop. Easter Sunday, he doubled down and took it even a step further stating that we “don’t believe in the resurrection because of the Bible.”
Of course we believe in the Resurrection because of the Bible. The Bible is the Word of God and is the power of God unto salvation (Romans 1). Apart from the Scriptures — which the Holy Spirit so graciously gave and preserved for us — there can be no salvation because there can be no knowledge of God apart from His Word.
