A New York hospital executive has been fired after she posted public comments on social media fantasising about how supporters of President Trump would get the coronavirus and not be allowed to get treatment.
The executive also happens to be, unsurprisingly, a former Hillary Clinton advisor.
Laura Krolczyk, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Centerโ€™s vice president for external affairs, made the incendiary posts on Facebook, first sharing an article about The White House being reluctant to foot the $1 billion cost associated with producing ventilators.
CONGRATULATIONS TAXPAYERS! We all pay former Hillary Clinton staffer Laura Krolczyk $226,850 annually at @RoswellPark as the senior executive spokesperson where she posts publicly on Facebook during the workday about ways she can assure Trump voters get COVID19. @DaveMcKinley2

Hauptman Woodward Medical Research Institute Director of Development Lisa LaTrovato responded to Krolczykโ€™s post, writing โ€œBut will waste more than that on a wall and space force.โ€
Krolczyk, who worked as Western New York Regional Director for Hillary Clintonโ€™s Senate office for 7 years, wrote back that โ€œTrump supporters need to pledge to give up their ventilators for someone else โ€ฆ and not go to the hospital.โ€
โ€œAlso donโ€™t cash your stimulus check,โ€ she later added, writing โ€œItโ€™s all a hoax. Chew some ibuprofen and be on with your day.โ€
LaTrovato further responded โ€œI think they should be the only ones in packed churches on Sunday,โ€ to which Krolczyk replied, โ€œThey should barricade themselves in there and ride this out.โ€
Another Facebook user saw the exchange, wrote โ€œWow, just wow, so your saying we decide who lives and dies based on political views? Great plan (thumbs up emoji).โ€
Krolczyk then responded โ€œThatโ€™s literally what heโ€™s saying. Take your โ€˜wowโ€™ and comprehend what your hero is saying. Your hero is saying YOU donโ€™t need a ventilator. So donโ€™t take one.โ€
The whole sorry conversation was then picked up by Republican strategist Michael Caputo, and the hospital was alerted.
.@HWMRI @RoswellPark Is it your public health policy to assure Trump voters are infected with COVID? Why are your senior executives advocating this sick strategy online? For the love of God, you both exist to fight disease! CALL THEM NOW! HW: 716-898-8600 Roswell: 716-845-2300

While LaTrovato is still on administrative leave from Hauptman Woodward pending further action, Krolczyk has been terminated by Roswell Park.
In a statement to Buffalo News, spokeswoman Annie Deck-Miller confirmed Krolczyk had been fired.
CEO Candace S. Johnson added that โ€œThis behavior is not tolerated at Roswell Park. If any team members act in a way that does not accord with that commitment, we will take swift and appropriate action, just as we did in this instance.โ€
Someone ought to tell Ms. Krolczyk that when engaging in her daily two minutes of Trump derangement hate, try to do it in private, rather than on her publicly available Facebook page.
Meanwhile, she should definitely make sure she does cash her stimulus check, as itโ€™ll be her only income for a while.
This isnโ€™t a one off. These people are everywhere, and need to be publicly shamed.

CIVIL LIBERTIES MATTER MORE THAN EVER IN A PANDEMIC~THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO STOP ASKING QUESTIONS

CIVIL LIBERTIES MATTER MORE THAN EVER IN A PANDEMIC~THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO STOP ASKING QUESTIONS

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is an investigative journalist and writer focusing on the radical Left and Islamic terrorism.
1 in 5 Americans have been ordered to stay home. Major states and cities have been shut down.
Our response to the coronavirus represents the biggest challenge to the relationship between individuals and the government in this country since the Civil War, WW1 or WW2. These decisions will likely be debated by scholars and historians the way that the Habeas Corpus Suspension Act, the Espionage Act, Japanese internment camps, and other emergency decisions continue to be litigated.
A generation ago, the ACLU might have had something to say about the civil liberties implications of shelter-in-place orders. That was a different ACLU that at least pretended to care about civil liberties as an objective value, defending the civil rights of people it disagreed with. The new ACLU is an identity politics zombie whose only civil liberties concerns for the coronavirus response is that illegal aliens wonโ€™t be able to enter the country and that prison inmates should be released as quickly as possible.
The ACLU's position on the coronavirus is that, "individual rights must sometimes give way to the greater good. After all, when it comes to disease, we are not just individuals but also one big bio-mass."
"A disease cares little for our notions of individualism," the former civil liberties organization argues.
That is no doubt true. But we don't run our society from the perspective of a disease. And we donโ€™t ask civil libertarians to mind-meld with viruses. Once upon a time, the ACLU might have asked what the Constitution thought of a policy. Now it asks what a disease thinks of the United States of America. And to the disease, the ACLU, and the Left, we're one big bio-mass collective with no room for individualism.
Meanwhile the ACLU has missed the civil liberties debate over what an โ€œessentialโ€ establishment is. Shelter-in-place and other variants of the same term list the local definition of what is considered an essential or non-essential establishment. There is, as of yet, no formal federal definition.
Are liquor stores essential? They are in New York, New Jersey, St. Louis and Michigan. But not in Pennsylvania. Pot stores were deemed essential in California, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.
And in Pennsylvania.
But the โ€œessentialโ€ debate is really blowing up when it comes to firearms.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva freed 1,700 criminals from county jails and launched an aggressive push to force gun stores to shut down as non-essential.
โ€œWe will be closing them, they are not an essential function,โ€ Villanueva insisted. "You have the mixture of people that are not formerly gun owners and you have a lot more people at home and anytime you introduce a firearm in a home... it increases fourfold the chance that someone is gonna get shot.โ€
Whether or not thatโ€™s true, it has nothing to do with whether gun stores are essential or not. Villanueva is wrongly conflating a gun control risk argument with defining what is an essential business.
And when thousands of criminals are set loose, firearms become more essential than ever.
While Illinois had deemed firearms businesses to be essential, Pennsylvania did not. The stateโ€™s version of โ€œessentialโ€ or โ€œlife-sustainingโ€, like California, covers marijuana, but not firearms. Thatโ€™s a problem since Philly authorities had announced that they wouldnโ€™t be arresting โ€œnon-violent offendersโ€.
Non-violent offenders, a highly misleading term for a wide variety of some, potentially quite hostile and dangerous criminals, includes car theft, burglary and other threats to personal property.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court heard a case by a gun shop owner and split, with the majority upholding the Democrat shutdown of gun stores in the state, while a minority dissented, arguing, that it's, โ€œan absolute and indefinite prohibition upon the acquisition of firearms by the citizens of this commonwealth โ€” a result in clear tension with the Second Amendmentโ€
Meanwhile, on the other side of the political dial, Louisiana, Ohio, and Texas classified abortions as non-essential, though Ohio abortion facilities donโ€™t appear to actually be obeying orders to close down.
Are gun stores or abortion clinics essential?
To people on one side, one of them is the footprint of a murderous industry that shouldnโ€™t even exist and on the other is a constitutionally protected right. Litigation over both sides and both industries has been fought endlessly, but is now being settled by fiat under the guise of emergency measures.
Thatโ€™s the civil liberties problem with giving government unlimited emergency powers to shut down everything it wants to with very little scrutiny and no meaningful appeal against its decisions.
There is an emergency. But civil rights donโ€™t disappear in emergencies. They matter more than ever.
The use of emergency powers allow government to strip away individual rights with very little oversight. And itโ€™s inevitable that, as in Los Angeles County, those powers will be used for self-serving reasons.
In an emergency, itโ€™s vital to keep government honest by questioning how it uses its powers, examining its motives for using those powers, and pushing to set limits on these emergency powers. The tension between emergency powers and civil liberties is the cauldron out of which freedom is constantly reborn.
When the government is gifted with the power to shut down anything in an emergency, its officials will make those decisions along the lines of their preconceived cultural, moral, and political views.
Even when the effect is to override existing civil liberties.
The debate over the shutdowns has been presented as a utilitarian contest between lives and the economy: balancing the risk to people and the risk to their ability to earn a living. But beyond the utilitarian debates and the numbers, of unemployment figures, and projected casualties, are the intangible moral and cultural factors that may well mark this nation even generations afterward.
Every emergency violation of civil liberties has left its scars on America. Including the Civil War. If this time is to be different, we must learn the lessons of those pasts before they turn into the new present.
No society is free all the time. But the difference between a free and unfree society is that a free society keeps asking challenging questions even during periods when civil liberties have been suspended. And by asking questions, its citizens work to keep this state of affairs an aberration, not the new normal.
When people become reflexively used to obeying orders, to jumping without asking any questions, then the crisis response becomes a new cultural norm. Thatโ€™s why the fight to protect civil liberties from shutdown orders should not wait until the crisis is over. Even now may already be too late.
This is not the time to stop asking questions, but to start asking them.
President Trump can take an important first step by adopting a definition of essential businesses that includes gun stores: sending the message that the government stands behind the Second Amendment.
Because civil liberties donโ€™t stop mattering during a pandemic. They matter now more than ever.

BRITISH STASI RISING: NEW LAWS FOR CORONAVIRUS USHER IN THE BRAVE NEW WORLD~U.K. COPS SHAMING: USING DRONES TO CAPTURE IMAGERY OF PEOPLE WALKING COUNTRYSIDE

Targeted by the Stasi: revisiting the past |

DW Documentary of life in East Germany

The Stasi spied on Silke Orphal and Ilona Seeber for years – after they applied to go to the West. Thirty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, they both look back at their Stasi files.

The Stasi files of Silke Orphal and Ilona Seeber include intercepted letters, official documents and countless reports by spies who meticulously noted everything about their lives, including the turning on and off of lights. When Silke Orphal and Ilona Seeber, who were both ordinary typists at Neues Deutschland – the official newspaper of the Socialist Unity Party – applied to leave the GDR, it was considered scandalous. They were ostracized at work, threatened and subjected to interrogations that lasted hours. What did the experience do to them? How do they look back on that time today? A report by Axel Rowohlt.

NEW LAWS FOR CORONAVIRUS

Neighbors spying on neighbors, people encouraged to report each other, curtains twitching as you walk by. Sound familiar?
The tactics used by the Stasi in East Germany in 1950, creating a secret police organization through a vast network of informants, are now being encouraged by British police in the UK in 2020. And the Chinese Virus was all it took for people to willingly comply.
Humberside Police (in the east midlands of England) has created an online portal where people can report those they suspect of not following social distancing rules, such as exercising only once a day or leaving the house only to buy food or for medical emergencies.
They say:
โ€˜Reports will be assessed based on the information provided and we would ask people to please consider the circumstance before making their report.โ€™
Another force โ€“ Derbyshire Police (central midlands) โ€“ sent drones to a remote walking spot in the Peak District, an area known for its beautiful views, and captured actual footage of โ€ฆ dog walkers. There is something very disconcerting about police filming innocent people without their permission.
โ€˜Walking your dog in the Peak District. Not essential.
Going for a walk miles from home. Not essential.
Going out of your way for an Instagram snap. Not essential.โ€™
Each statement was overlaid on actual footage of real people quietly taking their exercise in solitude miles from anywhere and anyone. This is the British police acting as the New Puritans, placing dog walkers in metaphorical stocks to be publicly shamed.
Itโ€™s enough to make Lady Liberty shudder. These dog walkers, socially isolating in the hills, are about as much of a transmission risk as my mother, 72, currently in lockdown in her tiny bungalow in the countryside.
And yet the police appear to be enjoying humiliating decent people in this way. You can almost see them salivating over the opportunity to spy on the public, just as you can see some members of the public fizzing at the thought of reporting neighbors who are not following the rules.
Of course, the decent Brits trying to get on with their lives are the easiest police target. Why get out on the streets and confront knife crime or raid mosques (where mullahs refer to the coronavirus as a solider of Allah), when you can sit in a comfortable vehicle and practice flying an expensive new gadget over peaceable dog walkers?
And sadly certain groups are using the virus as a weapon. A group of young black men were intimidating an elderly couple by spitting and coughing on them. In Birmingham, majority Pakistani Muslim men continue about their daily lives as normal, untroubled by British laws which they feel do not apply to them. These groups are the untouchables.
A retired police officer got in touch with me to confirm my thoughts: โ€˜Katie, Iโ€™m an ex cop, you are so right. Itโ€™s embarrassing how they are behaving. The thing is white, middle class types donโ€™t argue backโ€
Greater Manchester Police Denton (@GMPDenton) went a step further and published this tweet on their official Twitter account:
This is utterly untrue. This is not government advice. It is made up. It is a fabrication and an abuse of power by British police.
We are one goose-step away from a time we would all rather forget. By 1989 the Stasi in East Germany maintained files on around six million East German citizens, with information gleaned from up to two million informants and employees.
How quickly we forget.
Clearly the Chinese Virus demands our utmost attention. We all need to take personal responsibility and obey the government health warnings to the letter.
But there is a difference between taking personal responsibility and being asked to snitch on others. We should not have to take inflated police egos implementing fabricated laws.
As our attention is monopolized by the immediate issues of infection and deaths rates, I fear we are being distracted from the real threat to society which is far greater than the virus in the longer term: a power-grab on our freedoms.
New laws are being passed at breakneck speed. In the UK the Health Protection (Coronavirus) Regulations 2020 hurtled through Parliament like a runaway train โ€“ and are in place for six months. The headline is that โ€˜no one may leave the place they are living without reasonable excuseโ€™.
Now the police have the power to fine you if you disobey the Governmentโ€™s restrictions on your freedoms. Or if they feel your excuse is not โ€˜reasonableโ€™ enough.
Hidden inside these new laws are other state powers that would cause many to flinch if they read them. Hotels, B&Bs and similar businesses may be requisitioned by the Secretary of State. How would you feel if this new law applied to an Airbnb room inside your home?
There is also a jarring shift in the way many see the world, a turning away from personal responsibility towards the state. Feeling helpless against an invisible killer, many have laid down their own sense of self and are looking to the government for everything โ€“  money, health advice, even permission.
I have watched it happen in my own social circle, surprised by the speed at which formerly self-sufficient individuals have clamored for help from the state.
As our brilliant new chancellor rushed through a relief package to support businesses and their employees, self-employed friends of mine, usually endlessly resourceful and too proud to claim benefits, hesitated to seek new jobs in case the state chose to offer them compensation for their lost work instead.
The change is palpable. On 12 December 2019, the last General Election in the UK, British people did not vote for Jeremy Corbyn or a Labour government, but it certainly feels as if much of what Labour would have implemented is now being enforced by the Conservatives we did vote for. While we worried about our health and the safety of our elderly, the socialists have stolen a march on us.
Once we have created a nation of dependents, how many of them will un-suckle from the teat when this is over? Power is so easily given away to the state and its associated authorities, but it is very, very hard to retrieve afterwards.
I implore the USA to observe the example being played out in the UK. We are operating around two weeks ahead of you in terms of the virus and response. As you catch up, I am fearful for the power grab the Democrats will make on your constitutional rights.
Having watched the Democrats stuffing the financial stimulus package with $12 billion in spending for their own pet projects with tenuous or disputed connection to the emergency, it is clear not even the suffering of ordinary Americans will deter them from their socialist agenda.
Over $10 million for International Development, $350 million for refugee resettlement, $75 million for the National Foundation on Arts and Humanities and $25 million for the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts and tells us they will stop at nothing to get their way.
Benjamin Franklin wrote:
Those who would give up essential Liberty to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
The British people gave up any real notion of liberty a long time ago. We do not have a second amendment, let alone a first. In the UK we have a police task force dedicated to policing speech online. New laws mean we are now policed for our excuses to leave our homes.
America needs to brace itself for something far more powerful than the Chinese Virus: the power grab on your freedoms by the State. Democrats are preparing the ground for 2024.

THEY’RE LYING ABOUT VENTILATORS TOO
The news media has been propagating the story that there is a ventilator shortage, and are using it to maximize panic; with the aid of New York’s Governor, Andrew Cuomo. They are lying once again to terrorize for political reasons and to make a power play. This behavior fits the dictionary definition of terrorism. Meanwhile, they have a martial law ‘solution’ ready to go.

A huge US Navy hospital ship containing 1,000 beds has docked in New York City.

The USNS Comfort aims to take the pressure off the cityโ€™s hospitals as they deal with the spread of COVID-19.

New York is now the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in the USA.

But the ship is not expected to treat coronavirus patients. Rather it will be used to relocate shore-based patients undergoing treatments that are not coronavirus-related.

CORONAVIRUS ADVICE FROM JOHNS HOPKINS

CORONAVIRUS ADVICE FROM JOHNS HOPKINS
From John Hopkins Hospital….

The following is from Irene Ken physician, whose daughter is an Asst. Prof in infectious diseases at Johns Hopkins University.

purposes:
* The virus is not a living organism, but a protein molecule (DNA) covered by a protective layer of lipid (fat), which, when absorbed by the cells of the ocular, nasal or buccal mucosa, changes their genetic code. (mutation) and convert them into aggressor and multiplier cells.

* Since the virus is not a living organism but a protein molecule, it is not killed, but decays on its own. The disintegration time depends on the temperature, humidity and type of material where it lies.

* The virus is very fragile; the only thing that protects it is a thin outer layer of fat. That is why any soap or detergent is the best remedy, because the foam CUTS the FAT (that is why you have to rub so much: for 20 seconds or more, to make a lot of foam).

By dissolving the fat layer, the protein molecule disperses and breaks down on its own.

* HEAT melts fat; this is why it is so good to use water above 25 degrees Celsius for washing hands, clothes and everything. In addition, hot water makes more foam and that makes it even more useful.

* Alcohol or any mixture with alcohol over 65% DISSOLVES ANY FAT, especially the external lipid layer of the virus.

* Any mix with 1 part bleach and 5 parts water directly dissolves the protein, breaks it down from the inside.

* Oxygenated water helps long after soap, alcohol and chlorine, because peroxide dissolves the virus protein, but you have to use it pure and it hurts your skin.

* NO BACTERICIDE OR ANTIBIOTIC SERVES. The virus is not a living organism like bacteria; antibodies cannot kill what is not alive.

* NEVER shake used or unused clothing, sheets or cloth. While it is glued to a porous surface, it is very inert and disintegrates only

-between 3 hours (fabric and porous),

-4 hours (copper and wood)

-24 hours (cardboard),

– 42 hours (metal) and

-72 hours (plastic).

But if you shake it or use a feather duster, the virus molecules float in the air for up to 3 hours, and can lodge in your nose.

* The virus molecules remain very stable in external cold, or artificial as air conditioners in houses and cars.

They also need moisture to stay stable, and especially darkness. Therefore, dehumidified, dry, warm and bright environments will degrade it faster.

* UV LIGHT on any object that may contain it breaks down the virus protein. For example, to disinfect and reuse a mask is perfect. Be careful, it also breaks down collagen (which is protein) in the skin.

* The virus CANNOT go through healthy skin.

* Vinegar is NOT useful because it does not break down the protective layer of fat.

* NO SPIRITS, NOR VODKA, serve. The strongest vodka is 40% alcohol, and you need 65%.

* LISTERINE IF IT SERVES! It is 65% alcohol.

* The more confined the space, the more concentration of the virus there can be. The more open or naturally ventilated, the less.

* You have to wash your hands before and after touching mucosa, food, locks, knobs, switches, remote control, cell phone, watches, computers, desks, TV, etc. And when using the bathroom.

* You have to HUMIDIFY HANDS DRY from so much washing them, because the molecules can hide in the micro cracks. The thicker the moisturizer, the better.

* Also keep your NAILS SHORT so that the virus does not hide there.

No one is making light of the coronavirus epidemic that I know of. It is a major problem.

Death is no light matter. In fact, it is far more serious than most people think. If the Bible is true, death is a matter of eternal heaven or eternal hell. If people understood how truly serious death is, they would not be so frantically focused on trying to live a few years longer before physical death, they would be focused, rather, on finding salvation from eternal death.

Yes, the coronavirus is serious, but there has to be a proper perspective, which is not found in the panic-driven media or in the voices of a lot of men and women who should know better. They say we canโ€™t live with coronavirus. We have to eradicate it at all cost. There can be no middle ground. If we have to kill the economy, we will kill the economy, but we canโ€™t live with coronavirus death.

The reason that this is a wrong perspective is that we DO live with death. We are dying people in a world of death. This is the reality of life on earth. About 56 MILLION people die every year, which is 153,000 deaths PER DAY, 6,400 PER HOUR, every hour, hour after hour after hour.

We live with death in a thousand forms and we must learn how to live with coronavirus.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates, one of the worldโ€™s wealthiest men, has criticized President Trumpโ€™s focus on trying to get people back to work and restart the economy as soon as possible.

President Trump said, โ€œYou can destroy a country this way, by closing it down, where it literally goes from being the most prosperous. I would love to have the country opened up and just raring to go by Easterโ€ (โ€˜Trump says he wants country โ€˜opened upโ€™ by Easter,โ€ NBC News, Mar. 24, 2020). Easter is on April 12 this year.

The President is right; such a goal is wise. He hasnโ€™t said that he is going to ignore the coronavirus, and he certainly hasnโ€™t acted like he is going to ignore it. He has not said that he is going to suddenly lift all restrictions on April 12 and let people move about and congregate as freely as before until the coronavirus is under control. He simply wants to find the best way to deal with the coronavirus on one hand and to keep the economy alive on the other. You would have to be an idiot to fault that.

But Bill Gates said, โ€œItโ€™s very tough to say to people, โ€˜Hey, keep going to restaurants, go buy new houses, ignore that pile of bodies over in the corner, we want you to keep spending because thereโ€™s some politician that thinks GDP growth is what countsโ€™โ€ (TEDS Connections, Mar. 24, 2020).

Gates says that there is โ€œno middle groundโ€ between the virus and the cost to the economy. Gates is a smart guy and he knows finances and world conditions as well as anyone, but in this matter he is not exercising wisdom. Like other liberal-minded people today, it appears that he simply hates Trump and wants to take pot shots at him. I donโ€™t know his motive, but this appears to be what is happening, because he isnโ€™t being logical.

Gates of all people should not make light of GDP growth. Everything about the modern, life-saving medical field has to do with money, lots and lots and lots of money. The fact that America has a highly trained medical corps, world-class medical research and education, efficient hospitals, life-saving drugs, the ability to invent and mass produce things like MRIs and ventilators and coronavirus testing devices, an efficient and pure drug distribution system, the operation of a competent, dependable ambulance service, and the ability of the people to access such things, is because we have a high GDP.

These things were not invented in nor developed by, and they are not enjoyed by, poor nations. We would wait forever for poor nations to develop a cure for coronavirus, or even a rapid testing mechanism.

It appears that Bill needs to leave his mansion on a lake and spend a few years (not a few hours) in a really poor nation to understand the value of a prosperous economy at a much more fundamental level. Microsoft didnโ€™t come into existence and blossom into a multi-billion dollar enterprise that provides employment of a lot of people at a very healthy lifestyle in an environment of a destroyed economy.

In the many places on this earth today where the economy is weak, people die like flies. They die in infancy by the multitudes. If they survive infancy, they have a short lifespan compared to the prosperous โ€œWest.โ€ They die of things that are routinely cured in prosperous places. Even if there are a few modern hospitals in the really poor nations, the vast majority of the people canโ€™t afford to use them. Instead they go to the witchdoctors, the quacks, the poorly-trained doctors, the drug distributors that dispense corrupt medicines, the pathetically-equipped clinics, and they die. I think of a maternity hospital in one South Asian country in which about 90% of those who go into ICU die.
If you solve the coronavirus problem by killing the economy, you will cause more deaths in the long run by other means. There has to be some middle ground.

Bill Gates and his like-minded cronies need to support the President at this time instead of engaging in petty bickering. They need to rise above politics and use their genius to find ways to get people back to work as soon as possible, as widely as possible.

The bottom line is that we live in a world of death and dwell in a โ€œbody of this deathโ€ (Ro. 7:24). We live in a world where bodies would pile up in the corners every day if they werenโ€™t disposed of, with or without the coronavirus. About 3 million people die of all causes in America every year, and 56 million worldwide. Thatโ€™s MILLION. Worldwide, thatโ€™s 153,000 deaths per day, 6,400 PER HOUR, every hour, hour after hour after hour.. The leading causes of death in America are, in the following order, heart disease, cancer, accidents, lower respiratory diseases, stroke, Alzheimerโ€™s, diabetes, and influenza. People die in the womb (125,000 are aborted daily worldwide); they die in infancy; they die in childhood; they die in youth; they die as young adults; they die in midlife; they die in old age. Every soul on earth is going to die, sooner or later, by one means or another. We are dying people in a world of death. We are under the curse of death because of sin. โ€œFor the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lordโ€ (Ro. 6:23).

Many have mocked the comparison of covid-19 with the flu, but there is a comparison. Covid-19 is still a small thing compared to influenza, though it is yet to be seen how they will compare in the end. In 2018, THERE WERE 80,000 FLU DEATHS IN AMERICA, which was about 450 deaths per day. Worldwide, about 1 billion people contract the flu, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine, and about 500,000 die annually during the flu season, according to the Centers for Disease Control. That is about 6,250 FLU DEATHS PER DAY or 260 PER HOUR.

It appears that influenza is not as easily spread as coronavirus, but that influenza is very contagious is obvious by the massive numbers of infections annually. A billion! It is yet to be seen if covid-19 has a larger fatality rate, and is more deadly, than influenza.
If influenza infections and fatalities were to be tracked on a chart and updated in real time and broadcast continually from every news site on earth and flashed across the length and breadth of social media as per covid-19, there would be unending panic every year. The six-foot rule would be a permanent reality.

The largest global infectious pandemic is tuberculosis (TB), which sickens 10 million and kills 1.5 million annually (a death every 21 seconds). It is the worldโ€™s No. 1 infectious killer and the ninth-leading cause of death worldwide. WHO estimates that 1.8 billion people are infected by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that causes TB. It is a global disease, found in every country in the world. โ€œTB is an airborne disease that can be spread by coughing or sneezing and is the leading cause of infectious disease worldwide. There is growing resistance to available drugs, which means the disease is becoming more deadly and difficult to treat. There were more than half a million cases of drug resistant TB last yearโ€ (TBAlliance.org).

Again, this is not to make light of the coronavirus. It is a major problem. No one is making of light of it, that I know of. But there has to be a proper perspective, which is not found in the panic-driven media. We do live with death. It is reality, and we must learn how to live with coronavirus.

FDA APPROVES TWO DRUGS TO FIGHT CORONAVIRUS; DESPITE POLITICIZED OPPOSITION

FDA APPROVES TWO DRUGS TO FIGHT CORONAVIRUS; DESPITE POLITICIZED OPPOSITION

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given a limited emergency use for two anti-malarial drugs that President Donald Trump has championed as potentially efficacious against the coronavirus (also called COVID-19), and that some Democratic governors have banned in what many regard as a politicized response. The federal Health and Human Services Department (HHS) made the announcement Sunday night that it was now in possession of 30 million doses of hydroxychloroquine sulfate and a million more doses of chloroquine phosphate.
The drugs were donated to the Strategic National Stockpile, which stores potentially life-saving medicines and other supplies.
In the statement, the FDA said that the two drugs can be โ€œdistributed and prescribed by doctors to hospitalized teen and adult patients with COVID-19, as appropriate, when a clinical trial is not available or feasible.โ€
New York State had already allowed the medication to be used for treatment of seriously ill coronavirus patients.
Hydroxychloroquine (sold under the brand name Plaquenil) has been used to treat malaria, rheumatoid arthritis, and systemic lupus, and has been killing the coronavirus in laboratory experiments, according to findings published March 9 in the Clinical Infectious Diseases journal. The studyโ€™s authors, from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Wuhan, wrote in a letter published several days ago in Cell Discovery, โ€œWe predict that the drug has a good potential to combat the disease.โ€
Another study in France found that in using the drug to treat confirmed cases of COVID-19, it was effective. In a controlled study, 20 patients were given 600 mg of Plaquenil each day, and found that half of the treated group went from positive (meaning they had the disease) to negative (meaning the disease had been eliminated from the patientโ€™s system) for the virus by the third day. By the sixth day, that figure had increased to 70 percent.
Gregory Rigano, an advisor to the Stanford University School of Medicine, is leading a program testing the effects of hydroxychloroquine for the treatment of COVID-19. He appeared on the Tucker Carlson Show and pleaded publicly with President Trump to authorize its use against coronavirus โ€œimmediately.โ€
In response, Trump mentioned the drug and its potential during one of his daily press briefings on the coronavirus. Predictably, when Trump brought up the possible benefits of the drug, especially when combined with azithromycin, a reporter accused the president of giving the American people a โ€œfalse hope.โ€
Amazingly, despite the deep concern over the virus, it became almost a Democratic Party talking point to be against even trying the drug, with leading media figures on the Left often dismissing it as useless.
The governor of Nevada, Democrat Steve Sisolak, even signed an emergency regulation last week banning its use against COVID-19. โ€œThis emergency regulation protects Nevadans who need these drugs for legitimate medical purposes,โ€ Sisolak said in his order.
โ€œWhile studies are underway on the usefulness of these drugs in treating COVID-19, we must deal with facts, not fiction,โ€ said Dr. Ishan Azzam, the chief medical officer for the state Division of Public and Behavioral Health. โ€œPreserving these drugs for those who need it is the right decision.โ€
In other words, Sisolak and Azzam are arguing that if the drugs were used to treat patients with COVID-19, other patients who have conditions such as arthritis, lupus, and malaria might not be able to get their doses in a timely manner.
But the announcement by the FDA that there are now thirty million doses available at the Strategic National Stockpile would seem to put a huge question mark to that claim. While there are no doubt many Americans who have arthritis and lupus (not that many have malaria, fortunately), it is certainly far less than 30 million!
Nine pharmaceutical companies are stepping up production of the drug.
Put bluntly, the argument that using the drug to treat thousands of COVID-19 patients would somehow keep any drugs away from arthritis and lupus patients is dubious. And, keeping it away from Americans who need the drug, now, to potentially save their lives, is wrong.
Hatred of Donald Trump is one thing. But to allow that hatred to keep a drug away from those who need it for partisan political reasons is beyond normal politics.
It is evil.
This also illustrates the dangers of what can happen when government makes medical decisions, instead of doctors and medical scientists. It should warn us away from any form of socialized medicine. Do we really want politicized doctors making medical decisions?

GUN STORES CRITICAL

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- As NRA is actively fighting gun store closures across the country, President Trumpโ€™s newly-updated DHS guidance echoes what the NRA is arguing in court: that firearms and ammunition retailers are โ€œcritical infrastructure.โ€
On March 28, DHS's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agencyโ€‹(โ€œCISAโ€) updated its guidance on the critical infrastructure that the agency determined should remain open during state shutdown orders due to Covid-19.
The new guidance identifies the following firearms and ammunition industry workers as critical infrastructure:
โ€œWorkers supporting the operation of firearm or ammunition product manufacturers, retailers, importers, distributors, and shooting ranges.โ€
Several states relied on CISA's failure to include firearms retailers in prior guidance as a reason to order those businesses to shut down.
The Free Beacon reported that New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal (D) cited the DHS guidance as support for Governor Phil Murphy's (D) decision to completely shut off firearm transfers in the Garden State.
โ€œThe governor's executive order tracks every other executive order that has a stay-at-home provision and none of thoseโ€”none of thoseโ€”contain an exemption for firearm stores and nor does the federal guidance from Homeland Security contain that type of exemption when it comes to essential facilities and nonessential facilities,โ€ Grewal said.
NRA looks forward to a speedy reversal by New Jersey and other states who have claimed to rely on CISA's guidelines in determining what businesses are โ€œessentialโ€ and can therefore lawfully remain open during โ€œshelter-in-placeโ€ orders.
Please join us in thanking President Trump and his administration for once again keeping his promise to protect the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding Americans.

DHS Says Firearms Retailers, Manufacturers Essential BusinessesDHS Says Firearms Retailers, Manufacturers Essential Businesses
USA โ€“ -(AmmoLand.com)- Under the Trump Administration's guidance, the Department of Homeland Security has declared firearms manufacturers and retailers โ€œessential businesses,โ€ possibly driving a spike through the heart of various state and local โ€œemergency powersโ€ declarations that had classified gun stores to be โ€œnon-essentialโ€ during the current Coronavirus panic, and had ordered them closed.
The reference to gun shops is found in a document released Saturday titled โ€œGuidance on the Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce,โ€ in the section dealing with โ€œLaw Enforcement, Public Safety, and Other First Responders.โ€

The document released by DHS simply says that โ€œWorkers supporting the operation of firearm or ammunition product manufacturers, retailers, importers, distributors, and shooting rangesโ€ are considered essential.

DHS Guidance on the Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce 03-28-2020DHS Guidance on the Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce 03-28-2020
The announcement came after several days of often conflicting and confusing arguments about which businesses are necessary for public safety and security, and which are not. The controversy reached a point of ridiculousness when Washington Gov. Jay Insleeโ€™s emergency order listed employees at marijuana shops, breweries and winemaking facilities as part of the essential workforce, but omitted firearm and ammunition retailers and distributors.
In New Jersey, Gov. Phil Murphy was sued in federal district court for ordering gun shops to close. One of those lawsuits, filed by the Second Amendment Foundation, is already in motion and was covered by AmmoLand News here.
Friday morning in North Carolina, a federal lawsuit was filed against Wake County Sheriff Gerald M. Baker for refusing to accept new applications for pistol purchase permits or concealed handgun permits until April 30, 2020, using the COVID-19 outbreak as justification. SAF, the Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) and Grass Roots North Carolina joined forces on that lawsuit on behalf of Wake County resident Kelly Stafford.
A few hours later, SAF and FPC joined forces with the National Rifle Association, California Gun Rights Foundation and several others in a federal lawsuit against Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva. They are also alleged to be using the COVID-19 pandemic to close down gun stores.
โ€œEvery freedom loving American owes President Donald Trump and his administration a very big thank you for protecting our Second Amendment rights,โ€ said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb in reaction to the DHS announcement. โ€œThis is another Trump promise made and promise kept.โ€
Gottlieb noted โ€œa lot of people have done incredible workโ€ฆto make it happen.โ€
He suggested that images of citizens rushing to gun stores โ€œreminded government officials what the Second Amendment is really about.โ€
โ€œEven people who never before owned a firearm rushed to buy one as the pandemic has spread,โ€ Gottlieb stated. โ€œInstinctively, people headed to those places where they could buy guns and ammunition, which underscores just how essential those businesses really are.โ€
Guns Cash Taxes MoneyA new CISA memo from the Department of Homeland Security says โ€œWorkers supporting the operation of firearm or ammunition product manufacturers, retailers, importers, distributors, and shooting rangesโ€ are considered part of the โ€œessential infrastructure workforce.โ€

In some states, local governments have tried to get in on the gun ban action. SAF had hinted strongly that it would be considering several lawsuits against states and political subdivisions that tried to close gun stores and even prohibit the carrying of firearms outside the home.

The announcement came on the heels of a decision in the State of Delaware to back away from a gun shop closure order. Faced with a federal lawsuit threat from SAF, the NRA, and FPC, Delaware revised the language of its emergency declaration, Gottlieb said in a telephone conversation. The order had come from Democrat Gov. John Carney earlier in the week.
That order now reads: โ€œFirearms dealers may conduct sales of firearms, ammunition, and other goods directly related to responsible firearm storage and maintenance, by appointment only. No more than two appointments per half-hour shall occur, and sellers are limited to operating during normal working hours they operated on prior to the State of Emergency. Any seller who violates such directive may be subject to criminal prosecution or other civil enforcement remedies up to and including arrest or the involuntary closure of the business.โ€
โ€œAfter we sued New Jersey, our threatened lawsuit against Delawareโ€ฆplayed a key role in bringing about this change of heart,โ€ SAFโ€™s Gottlieb said. โ€œWe can think of no more essential endeavor outside of health care and emergency services during a time of crisis than a business that enables citizens to exercise their fundamental right protected by the Second Amendment.โ€
It is not known what, if any, immediate impact the DHS declaration will have on the recently-filed legal actions.
Also, review our gun deals page now that shops will be reopening for FFL transfers.

SAF Applauds Trump Admin. For โ€˜Essentialโ€™ Ruling On Gun Shops
Washington, DC โ€“ -(AmmoLand.com)- Declaring that American gun owners owe President Donald Trump a โ€œvery big thank you,โ€ the Second Amendment Foundation today is cheering the announcement from the Department of Homeland Security defining firearms manufacturers and retailers as โ€œessential businesses.
โ€œEvery freedom-loving American owes President Donald Trump and his administration a very big thank you for protecting our Second Amendment rights,โ€ said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb in reaction to the DHS announcement.

โ€œThis is another Trump promise made and a promise kept.โ€

Gottlieb, who has been busy preparing lawsuits against several potential states and even local governments for ordering gun shops to close their doors during the COVID-19 crisisโ€”defining them as โ€œnon-essential businessesโ€ while okaying such things as breweries and marijuana shopsโ€”was delighted at the news.
โ€œA lot of people have done incredible work this week to make it happen,โ€ he confirmed. โ€œA number of people, including governors and even mayors and at least one California sheriff appear to have let their personal politics get in the way of common-sense public policy. During a time of crisis, we can think of no more essential endeavor outside of health care and emergency services than businesses that enable citizens to exercise their fundamental right to keep and bear arms.
โ€œIt could be that the American public, by heading to gun shops and sporting goods stores as the Coronavirus panic spread, reminded government officials what the Second Amendment is really about,โ€ Gottlieb observed. โ€œEven people who never before owned a firearm rushed to buy one as the pandemic has spread. Instinctively, people headed to those places where they could buy guns and ammunition, which underscores just how essential those businesses really are.

โ€œThe president and his administration have done the right thing,โ€ Gottlieb said. โ€œThey are dealing with a national emergency while remembering that no malady, however severe, can nullify or even temporarily suspend the exercise of a constitutionally delineated fundamental right.โ€

NSSF Thanks Trump Administration for Industryโ€™s Critical Infrastructure Designation

Department of Homeland Security includes firearm manufacturing, distribution, retail and ranges as essential critical services.
NEWTOWN, Conn. โ€” The National Shooting Sports Foundationยฎ (NSSFยฎ), the trade association for the firearm and ammunition industry, is grateful for the Department of Homeland Securityโ€™s (DHS) inclusion of the firearm industryโ€™s manufacturing, distribution, retail and range businesses as essential critical services that should remain open during the COVID-19 pandemic. NSSF has been working closely with the Trump Administration and DHS to convey the important role the firearm and ammunition industry performs for national security, public safety, and the ability for continued exercise of individual constitutional liberties and self-protection.
โ€œWe are deeply appreciative to the Trump Administration and Department of Homeland Security for recognizing the vital role our industry fulfills in our nation,โ€ said Lawrence G. Keane, Senior Vice President and General Counsel for NSSF.
โ€œWe have seen over the past week hundreds of thousands, even millions of Americans choosing to exercise their right to keep and bear arms to ensure their safety and the safety of loved ones during these uncertain times. Americans must not be denied the ability to exercise that right to lawfully purchase and acquire firearms during times of emergency. This guidance from the Department of Homeland Securityโ€™s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) is crucial to governors and local officials as they craft the orders to preserve public health.โ€
The firearm industry continues to provide small arms to the U.S. military, even during times of crisis. The national security mission remains and U.S. Armed Forces, with rare exceptions, rely upon domestically manufactured small arms. Most law enforcement departments rely on local firearm retailers to supply them with their firearms to perform the critical duty of providing for community safety. Law-abiding individuals also rely on these retailers for the ability to purchase their firearms and ammunition. It is also where retailers are able to explain the responsibilities of safe firearm ownership and storage and new gun owners are able to access ranges to learn to safely handle their firearms.

GOA and GOC Thank the Trump Administration for Designating Firearms Industry as Essential

USA โ€“ President Trumpโ€™s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has revised its guidance of critical infrastructure to include the firearms industry as part of the Essential Critical Infrastructure. This revision comes shortly after Gun Owners of America (GOA) and Gun Owners of California (GOC) sent a letter to the administration urging inclusion of the firearms industry.
The guidance specifically includes โ€œ[w]orkers supporting the operation of firearm or ammunition product manufacturers, retailers, importers, distributors, and shooting rangesโ€ as part of the Essential Critical Infrastructure.
GOA Senior Vice President Erich Pratt said, โ€œIt is very encouraging to see CISA include the firearms industry as essential. In these uncertain times, the ability to protect yourself โ€” and to acquire firearms, magazines and ammunition โ€” should not be ignored. GOA/GOC thanks the Trump Administration for listening to our letter and ensuring that Americans can protect themselves in these difficult times.โ€

N.J. Gov. Murphy Backs Down, Allows Gun Shops Back Open, SAF Victory
BY ALAN GOTTLIEB

BELLEVUE, WA โ€“ -(AmmoLand.com)- The Second Amendment Foundation declare victory today when New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy backed away from his earlier position on gun shop operations in the state during the current COVID-19 panic, and will now allow operations by appointment.

The Second Amendment Foundation sued Murphy and acting State Police Supt. Col. Patrick Callahan in U.S. District Court last week, seeking a preliminary injunction and temporary restraining order.

They were ultimately joined by the New Jersey Second Amendment Society, Legacy Indoor Range and Armory LLC and the Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC), Racing Rails LLC d/b/a Legend Firearms and several private citizens. Plaintiffs were represented by noted civil rights attorney David Jensen of New York and Adam Kraut of California.
โ€œWeโ€™re delighted that Gov. Murphy has reversed course on this matter, even if it took a lawsuit to get him to do it,โ€ said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. โ€œOur lawsuit cut right to the heart of what the Second Amendment is all about, which is personal protection during emergency situations like the ongoing coronavirus pandemic that has gripped the nation.โ€

Murphy found himself in the uncomfortable, and untenable, position of having to defend his armed protection detail while having closed down Garden State gun shops, making it impossible for average citizens to by even ammunition, much less a firearm.

โ€œWhile we pursue litigation elsewhere,โ€ Gottlieb said, โ€œweโ€™re happy that the situation in New Jersey has changed. Regardless of what some politicians might think, the Second Amendment is not subject to emergency orders, same as the First, Fourth, Fifth or other constitutional protections.

โ€œThis is one more example of SAFโ€™s ongoing mission to win back firearms freedom, one lawsuit at a time,โ€ he concluded.

In any great natural disaster, America is typically the first to provide help. When the great Russian novelist Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn visited America, he said, โ€œThe United States has long shown itself to be the most magnanimous, the most generous country in the world. Wherever there is a flood, an earthquake, a fire, a natural disaster, an epidemic, who is the first to help? The United States. Who helps the most and unselfishly? The United States.โ€

In 2011, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard said in an address to the U.S. Congress: โ€œThere is a reason the world always looked to America. Your city on a hill cannot be hidden. Your brave and free people have made you the masters of recovery and reinventionโ€ (William Bennett, โ€œAmerica the Generous,โ€ CNN, Dec. 15, 2011).

The U.S. Department of Defense is one of the worldโ€™s largest providers of international aid and disaster relief.

For example, the United States Navy operates two massive hospital ships,
USNS Mercy and USNS Comfort, which are tasked to support U.S. armed forces as well as to provide medical aid and humanitarian assistance. โ€œBoth serve as 70,000-metric-ton symbols of how much America cares as a nation and as a peopleโ€ (โ€œHospital Ships,โ€ navy.com).

In March 2020, they were assigned to assist in the covid-19 crisis,
Comfort docking in New York City and Mercy in Los Angeles. โ€œIn addition to the hundreds of U.S. Navy and civil personnel already aboard the ships, more than 100 reservists are being called up to help with the unprecedented emergency virus treatment. โ€˜When we were asked to help find medical professionals to help support this mission, we received hundreds of volunteer requests from our Reserve medical community in less than 24 hours,โ€™ said U.S. Navy Rear Adm. John Schommer, deputy commander of Navy Reserve Force. โ€˜Thatโ€™s extremely humbling.โ€™ Indeed, Americaโ€™s volunteer warriors are inspiring us with their willingness to step forward at great risk to their own health. Like doctors, nurses, first responders, delivery workers and countless others, the brave men and women of our military are performing brilliantly amid the uncertainty of a rapidly evolving public health crisisโ€ (โ€œMilitaryโ€™s Coronavirus Response Should Make All Americanโ€™s Proud,โ€ The Stream, Mar. 27, 2020).

The ships are huge, the second largest in the U.S. Navy fleet after the supercarriers and the fifth largest ships in the world. Converted from oil supertankers, the two ships originally cost $560 million.

The ships are 894-feet long (the length of three football fields) and the height of a 10-story building.

Each ship is a 1,000-bed hospital that carries 700 medical personnel at full capacity. Each has 12 operating rooms, four intensive care wards, an emergency/triage room, full medical labs, pharmacies, and are equipped with the latest technology such as CAT scanners and digital X-ray. They offer radiological, optometry, and dental services. They have their own medical oxygen producing plants, blood banks with a 5,000 unit capacity, and water distilling plants (300,000 US gallons per day). A flight crew operates the shipโ€™s helicopter pad which can handle the Navyโ€™s largest helicopters. Kitchens can provide meals for 1,000 personnel.

They assist in natural disasters such as the Southeast Asia tsunami of 2004 and the Haiti earthquake of 2010. On a visit to Southeast Asia in 2010, the
USNS Mercy treated 109,754 patients and performed 1,580 surgeries. In 2015, the USNS Comfort provided care for more than 120,000 patients (including 1,200 surgeries) in 11 countries in the Caribbean and South and Central America. These projects are funded by the U.S. government with assistance by volunteer medical personnel and supplies donated by private organizations.

U.S. Marines are stationed around the world for rapid military deployment, but they also use this capacity to provide quick humanitarian aid in time of disaster. No other nation has this capacity. The Marines even have a medal called the Humanitarian Service Medal.
โ€œ… no one in the history of the world can declare that they have made such great strides in providing aid and relief like the Americans. … Say what you want about us, but without that aid provided by hundreds of thousands of American service people and hundreds of millions of taxpayers, millions upon millions of people who have been fed, vaccinated, operated on, given shelter, given homes, bathed, birthed, and listened to would now be dead. Many more would not experience the quality of life they now experienceโ€ (Jon Davis, โ€œSome mind-blowing facts about the U.S. military,โ€ quora.com).

As the covid-19 crisis continues and economic problems mount, there is good news. For the redeemed of the Lord, there is always good news in Holy Scripture. He wants โ€œan emergency body with executive powersโ€ and an increase in funding for the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (โ€œGordon Brown calls for global government to tackle coronavirus, The Guardian, Mar. 26, 2020). British scientist Neil Ferguson, whose March 16 computer-modeled prediction of the deaths of 2.2 million Americans and half a million British due to covid-19, was a major element in the global shut downs, has now backed off of his original doomsday estimates. Earlier he warned that critical care (ICU) bed capacity would exceed maximum supply by 30 times. He called for a shut down for 18 months! Now he says, โ€œThe UK should be able to cope with the spread of the covid-19 virus and UK deaths are not unlikely to exceed 20,000, AND COULD BE MUCH LOWERโ€ (โ€œUK has enough intensive care units for coronavirus,โ€ New Scientist, Mar. 25, 2020). He also said an 18 month shut down is not possible. As of March 29, 1228 people in the United Kingdom had died from the coronavirus with 19,500 confirmed cases. Stanford University professors Eran Bendavid and Jay Bhattacharya have stated that CURRENT ESTIMATES OF THE FATALITY RATE โ€œMAY BE TOO HIGH BY ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE.โ€ They said, โ€œIf itโ€™s true that the novel coronavirus would kill millions without shelter-in-place orders and quarantines, then the extraordinary measures being carried out in cities and states around the country are surely justified. But thereโ€™s little evidence to confirm that premiseโ€”and projections of the death toll could plausibly be orders of magnitude too highโ€ (โ€œIs the Coronavirus as deadly as they say?โ€ Wall Street Journal, Mar. 24. 2020). A new computer model by Oxford University suggests the covid-19 pandemic is in a later stage than previously thought and estimated the virus has already infected at least millions of people worldwide. The head of the study is professor Sunetra Gupta, an Oxford theoretical epidemiologist. โ€œIf her work is accurate, that would likely mean a large swath of the population has built up resistance to the virus. Theoretically, then, social restrictions could ease sooner than anticipated. What needs to be done now, Gupta said, is a whole lot of antibody testing to figure out who may have contracted the virus. Her research team is working with groups from the University of Cambridge and the University of Kent to start those tests for the general population as quickly as possibleโ€ (โ€œNew Oxford study,โ€ TheWeek.com, Mar. 24, 2020). Dr. Vladimir Zelenko, a Jewish doctor in New York, has treated at least 500 covid-19 patients with near 100% success rate. โ€œIt's an out-patient treatment combining the common anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine with the popular antibotic azithromycin (known as Z-Pak) and zinc sulfate. ... Zelenko explained that there are two different diseases, the covid-19 infection and the catastrophic lung injury, called acute respiratory distress syndrome, or ARDS. ARDS is the affliction requiring the use of hospital beds and ventilators, which has become a hot political issue because of the severe lack of supply. His protocol won't treat ARDS, but it can keep people from ever developing it. โ€˜I believe it lowers the viral load and decreases the amount of virus that the immune system needs to deal with,โ€™ he said. โ€˜It gives it time to overcome the development of the infection prior to development of ARDS or lung injury.โ€™ Zelenko said the results are โ€œremarkable." "I'm seeing respiratory symptoms resolve as fast as four hours. That's not the norm," he said. "It takes 12 hours on average, in my experience. "But I've seen remarkable results, and I have now colleagues who are implementing this as well and they are reporting the same anecdotal data.โ€ The colleagues include Dr. William Grace of the hematology and oncology department at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York Cityโ€ (โ€œDoctor: White House has my successful coronavirus treatment,โ€ WorldNetDaily, Mar. 25, 2020). Dr. Ian Lipkin, an infectious disease expert from Columbia University, has announced that a blood-plasma therapy is showing good success in treating coronavirus patients. โ€œAbout a week ago, I got a paper from a friend of mine, the former minister of health... telling me that he had treated 10 patients with plasma therapy โ€“ antibodies that have been taken from patients who'd recovered. All 10 of these patients did well. This is an old method that we used before we had antibiotics, and it'll work here too. One of the things that we're going to be trying to do is to ask people who have recovered from this infection to volunteer to provide plasma--there are a number of people who're beginning to think about this--so that we can use actually use this to treat other citizens, other people around the world who are infected, This is something that we think will make a huge difference in morbidity and mortality. This is available right nowโ€ (โ€œPotential new coronavirus treatment,โ€ Fox News, Mar. 27, 2020). Ford announced on March 26 that it plans to restart its plant in Mexico on April 6 and plants in Michigan, Kentucky, Kansas City, and Ohio on April 14, โ€œwhile introducing additional safety measures to protect returning workersโ€ (Business Insider, Mar. 26, 2020). Many CEOs and presidents of corporations are donating their salaries to their employees and companies. These include W. Kent Taylor of Texas Roadhouse, Arne Sorenson of Mariott (plus all executives are taking a 50% pay cut), Mark Hoplamaxian of Hyatt, John Zimmer and Logan Green of Lyft, Ed Bastian of Delta, Brad Tilden of Alaska Air, Oscar Munoz and Scott Kirby of United, Maurice Gallagher and John Redmond of Allegiant, Lawrence Culp of GE, and Bahram Akradi of LifeTime (Yahoo Finance, Mar. 20, 2020). Many others are taking major pay cuts. Donald Trump has donated his entire presidential salary ($400,000 annually) to various causes since his inauguration in 2017. โ€œI have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging breadโ€ (Psalm 37:25). South Korea successfully โ€œflattened the curveโ€ of covid-19 infections without shutting down the nationโ€™s economy. The New York Times reports, โ€œAt the peak, medical workers identified 909 new cases in a single day, Feb. 29, and the country of 50 million people appeared on the verge of being overwhelmed. But less than a week later, the number of new cases halved. Within four days, it halved again โ€” and again the next day. On Sunday, South Korea reported only 64 new cases, the fewest in nearly a month, even as infections in other countries continue to soar by the thousands daily, devastating health care systems and economies. Italy records several hundred deaths daily; South Korea has not had more than eight in a day.โ€ The Daily Wire continues, โ€œSo how has South Korea pulled it off so far? It was not through draconian or economy-crushing measures implemented by the likes of China and now an increasing number of countries across the globe, including the U.S. The answer is four key measures: 1) rapid intervention before the pandemic is a full crisis; 2) implement widespread testing; 3) contact tracing and isolation; and 4) get the public to helpโ€ (โ€œHow South Korea Flattened the Curve,โ€ The Daily Wire, Mar. 26, 2020). Pope Francis has announced that a general absolution of sin can be obtained by confessing directly to God, instead of to a priest, during the covid-19 crisis. Speaking at a live-streamed mass on March 20, the pope said, โ€œThis is the right time, the opportune moment. An act of contrition done well, and our souls will become white like the snowโ€ (โ€œIf you canโ€™t go to confession,โ€ Crux, Mar. 20, 2020). Directly to God? What a brilliant idea! The problem is that the pope prescribed a false path to cleansing. The only way to become โ€œwhite like the snowโ€ is to approach God in His prescribed way, which is by repentance and saving faith in Christ, not by โ€œan act of contrition,โ€ sacraments, priests, Mary, and saints. โ€œThat if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamedโ€ (Ro. 10:9-11). Cal Pierce, founder of International Association of Healing Rooms, prophesied on March 13 that the coronavirus would be gone in 10 days. Pierce was having a recorded conversation with Steven Strang, founder of Charisma magazine. The prophesy was based on the Word of Faith heresy that believers have the power to create reality with their words. Pierce said, โ€œSo, we have authority that Jesus has given us. Heโ€™s our head; weโ€™re his body. He works through us, because we have authority. So, when we decree something which is the will of God or the Word of God, our decree or the sound of our voice becomes Godโ€™s will into the natural realmโ€ (โ€œSee Covid-19 from the Perspective of Spiritual Warfare,โ€ Charismapodcast, Mar. 13, 2020). Pierce proclaimed the โ€œword of faithโ€ that covid-19 would be gone in 10 days. Obviously the man is one of the false prophets that the Bible so frequently warns about. โ€œWhen a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of himโ€ (Deuteronomy 18:22). Chuck Pierce, another Pentecostal โ€œprophetโ€ (and an apostle, to boot!) says that he knows this isnโ€™t the end of the world because โ€œthe Lordโ€™s shown me through 2026, so I know this isnโ€™t the end of timeโ€ (โ€œThis is not the end of the world,โ€ The Washington Post, Mar. 17, 2020). PREVIOUS Covid-19 is still a small thing compared to influenza, which has infected 36 to 51 million, hospitalized about one-half million and killed 22,000 and 55,000 in America alone since October (โ€œInfluenza Preliminary In-Season 2019-2020,โ€ Centers for Disease Control). In 2018, there were 80,000 flu deaths in America, which was about 450 deaths per day. Worldwide, influenza kills about 500,000 annually during the flu season. That is about 6,250 deaths per day or 260 PER HOUR. The Wuhan district of China, ground zero for covid-19, is getting back to work, temporary hospitals are closing, and travel restrictions are being lifted. All of China had zero new infections on March 18-19. The fatality rate for covid-19 is smaller than WHO reports originally showed. Large numbers of those who have contracted the respiratory virus are not part of the statistics because the symptoms are often so mild. The current statistic is 1.4 percent even in Wuhan (โ€œCoronavirus latest news,โ€ New Scientist, Mar 19, 2020). Time magazine said, โ€œThat means the total number of reported cases is very likely an underestimateโ€”and by not counting many mild or asymptomatic cases, weโ€™re likely overestimating the diseaseโ€™s overall mortality rate. ... covid-19 LOOKS A LOT CLOSER TO THE SEASONAL FLU THAN TO PREVIOUS CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAKS. A more completeโ€”and, hopefully, less severeโ€”picture of covid-19 will likely emerge as the outbreak continues, testing capacity increases and data are refinedโ€ (โ€œThe WHO estimated covid-19 mortality,โ€ Time, Mar. 9, 2020). Schools reopened in Singapore on March 23 under wise, no-panic rules (The Straits Times, Mar. 20, 2020). The government has an eye on the sustainability of its educational system. Sustainability is an important concept in this crisis. Many factors must be weighed, including the economy. CURES AND BLOCKERS The anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine in combination with azithromycin is proving successful in treating coronavirus patients in tests in Australia, France, and elsewhere. โ€œA French study with a small sample size showed it to be 100 percent effective. The French study, led by researcher Didier Raoult and his team, has received worldwide attention. In it, six mpatients were given Plaquenil โ€“ a brand-name hydroxychloroquine drug โ€“ in tandem with the antibiotic drug azithromycin, Forbes reported. All six patients tested negative for covid-19 by day six. In Australia, a University of Queensland study that used the anti-malaria drug in combination with an anti-HIV drug also was highly effective. The Queensland team is now using the drugs in a clinical trial. โ€˜Prior to the clinical trials going ahead, the medications were given to some of the first Australian patients infected with covid-19, and all have completely recovered without any trace of the virus left in their system,โ€™ David Paterson of the University of Queensland said in a press release. โ€˜These medications have the potential to be a real cure for all, unlike the random anecdotal experiences of some people.โ€™ The universityโ€™s press release called it a โ€˜coronavirus cureโ€™โ€ (โ€œPatients โ€˜Completely Recovered,โ€™โ€ Christian Headlines, Mar. 19, 2020). President Trump is streamlining the testing of hydroxychloroquine for covid-19 patients and has instructed the CDC to cut all red tape. The Israeli company Teva is donating 16 million hydroxychloroquine tablets to hospitals in America for testing purposes (6 million immediately and 10 million more within a month). Teva is a global leader in generic and speciality medicines. Following is the testimony of a man whose life was saved by hydroxychloroquine: โ€œRio Giardinieri, 52, who is vice-president of a company that manufactures cooking equipment at high-end restaurants in LA and around the world, thinks he contracted covid-19 at a conference in New York. He had a fever for five days, horrendous back pain, headache, cough, and tiredness. ... Doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia and coronavirus. They put him on oxygen in the ICU but he says he was still unable to breathe. ... Friday evening, he said goodbye to his wife and three children. ... A dear friend immediately sent him a recent article about hydroxychloroquine ... So, Giardinieri reached out to an infectious disease doctor. โ€˜He gave me all the reasons why I would probably not want to try it because there are no trials, thereโ€™s no testing, it was not something that was approved. And I said look I donโ€™t know if Iโ€™m going to make it until the morning because at that point I really thought I was coming to the end because I couldnโ€™t breathe anymore. He agreed and authorized the use of it and 30 minutes later the nurse gave it to me. ... they gave me some Benadryl [that allowed me to go to sleep and when I woke up at exactly 4:45 in the morning, I woke up like nothing ever happened.โ€™ Miraculously, heโ€™s since had no fever or pain, feels fine and heโ€™s able to breathe againโ€ (โ€œA man with coronavirus,โ€ Fox10 Phoenix, Mar. 23, 2020). Remdesivir, an experimental antiviral drug that holds out hope as a covid-19 blocker, is undergoing large human trials in China and the US. Kaletra, a combination of anti-HIV drugs that stops viral replication, has shown some effectiveness in trials in China. Indiaโ€™s Chief Medical and Health Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh announced on March 16 that three covid-19 patients have recovered by means of a combination of HIV drugs. โ€œIt appears it is working because three patients have recovered. Good thing is that all the three patients are elderly and the successful result of the drug patients of such age is a big thingโ€ (โ€œCombination of two anti-HIV drugs proved crucial,โ€ The Economic Times, Mar. 16, 2020). Israelโ€™s Institute of Technology (Technion) announced a new covid-19 testing procedure that can test more than 60 patients at one time. The institute said they have โ€œsuccessfully tested a method that will dramatically increase the current covid-19 testing capacity using existing available resourcesโ€ (โ€œTechnion, Weizmann Institute,โ€ No Camels, Mar. 18, 2020). VACCINES The first covid-19 vaccine (by the company Moderna) has begun human testing in Washington state (โ€œBiotech company ships first batches of vaccine,โ€ Fox News, Mar. 16, 2020). Israelโ€™s Ministry of Science and Technology branch at Galilee (MIGAL) has a vaccine that it hopes will achieve safety approval in a short time through expedited trials and fast-track approvals (โ€œIsraeli breakthrough in coronavirus vaccine imminent,โ€ Israel Today, Mar. 16, 2020). MIGALโ€™s vaccine is a by-product of the development of a vaccine against Avian coronavirus. Other companies have vaccines ready for testing. The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) is backing a vaccine developed by Oxford University and one by the US company Inovio, which had a vaccine ready three hours after the gene sequence was published in January. โ€œIt plans clinical trials in April and to have a million doses by December, if the approach worksโ€ (โ€œThe race to test coronavirus antiviral drugs and vaccines,โ€ New Scientist, Mar. 11, 2020). The French company Sanofi Pasteur is hybridizing the covid-19 virus with a baculovirus already approved for its flu vaccine as a possible fast track to a vaccine that could be quickly mass produced. With $87 million backing from the European Commission, German firm CureVac is promising a vaccine in around six months by fast track. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke of her hope to bring a vaccine to market โ€œperhaps before autumnโ€ (โ€œMore Firms Enter Race for Vaccine as EU Suggests Accelerated Trials Process,โ€ CNSNews.com, Mar. 18, 2020). MISCELLANEOUS Some companies in America are hiring large numbers of new workers to keep up with increased demands caused by the coronavirus crisis. Walmart announced on March 20 that it is hiring 150,000 additional workers and has expedited the hiring process from two weeks to 24 hours. Walmart is raising the wage for entry level workers and is also providing $550 million in cash bonuses to its hourly employees. Amazon is hiring 100,000 new workers for its American warehouse and delivery wings. CVS Pharmacy is hiring 50,000 and paying some workers bonuses of $500. Dominoโ€™s pizza is hiring 10,000. Walgreens is hiring 9,500. Pepsi is hiring 6,000 new full-time employees. Dollar Tree is hiring 25,000. 7-Eleven is hiring 20,000. Kroger, Costco, Albertsonโ€™s, and Aldi are hiring. The coronavirus crisis has resulted in a massive increase in government surveillance of citizens. It looks like a trial run for a one-world government, and it is working very well. Ten countries are tracking phone data. Poland is requiring home quarantined patients to use a special app to take regular selfies to prove they are indoors; failure results in a visit from police (โ€œPoland made an app,โ€ Business Insider, Mar. 23, 2020). Taiwan has introduced โ€œelectronic fencesโ€ which alert police if suspected patients leave their homes (โ€œTaiwanโ€™s New Electronic Fence,โ€ New York Times, Mar. 20, 2020). A religious Jew who stole an antiquities artifact in Israel 15 years ago returned it, fearing that the end of the world is at hand. He was a teenager when he took the Roman ballista stone from an archaeological exhibition. It is from the siege of Jerusalem in AD 70. Now married with children, the man is seeking to have a clear conscience when he stands before God (โ€œโ€˜Itโ€™s the End of the World,โ€™ Says Repentant Israeli Antiquities Thief,โ€ Israel Today, Mar. 18, 2020). If he would read his Bible with open eyes, he would see that he will give account for every sin against God in thought and deed and therefore there is no possibility of being justified by oneโ€™s deeds; only through the Messiahโ€™s vicarious atonement can a sinner be justified. โ€œFor God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evilโ€ (Ec. 12:14). โ€œBut he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us allโ€ (Isa. 53:5-6). Iran has scaled back its terrorist activity across the Middle East because of the coronavirus (โ€œIDF indicates Iran scaling back,โ€ The Times of Israel, Mar. 17, 2020). For the redeemed, the Bible is full of wonderful promises from God our Saviour. โ€œBut I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God. My times are in thy hand...โ€ (Psalm 31:14-15). Susannah Spurgeon, wife of Charles, commented on this promise as follows: โ€œNot one or two important epochs of my history only, but everything that concerns me;โ€”joys that I had not expected,โ€”sorrows that must have crushed me if they could have been anticipated,โ€”sufferings which might have terrified me by their grimness had I looked upon them,โ€”surprises which infinite love had prepared for me,โ€”services of which I could not have imagined myself capable;โ€”all these lay in that mighty hand as the purposes of Godโ€™s eternal will for meโ€ (cited from Susie: The Life and Legacy of Susannah Spurgeon by Ray Rhodes Jr.). The best news is that any individual infected by the deadly virus of sin can be healed through saving faith in the blood of Jesus Christ, Godโ€™s Son, and escape certain eternal death. Sin has a 100% mortality rate, but Dr. Jesus has a 100% success rate for those who come to Him by the door of saving faith. โ€œFor the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lordโ€ (Romans 6:23).

ALEX NEWMAN: FIGHTING CORONAVIRUS WITH TYRANNY & GLOBALISM
In this episode of Behind The Deep State, host Alex Newman explores the Deep State effort to supposedly fight the Chinese virus with more tyranny and globalism. In particular, Alex goes through a Rockefeller Foundation report that imagines a hypothetical pandemic. Dubbed “Lock Step,” this scenario praises Communist China’s ruthless measures while attacking the United States. Newman also exposes the push for a New World Order, mandatory vaccines, a global Special Drawing Rights currency by the IMF, ID2020, and other schemes funded by the Bill Gates Foundation. Basically, the Deep State is using this hysteria to wage war on liberty, nations, and privacy. Don’t let them win.

IT’S MARTIAL LAW, NOT MEDICINE
GOVERNOR GINA RAIMONDO SAYS
NEW YORKERS ARE NOT WELCOME,
SUBJECT TO ARREST IN DOOR TO DOOR HUNT;
TRAMPLES CONSTITUTION
In Rhode Island, the National Guard are being used to threaten and intimidate American citizens, harassing them at home and on the road. It’s time for many to recognize that this virus is being used as an excuse to infringe upon our rights.

NY Gov Cuomo threatens to sue Gov Raimondo of Rhode Island for hunting down people from New York.

Rhode Island Forces Any Out-of-state Visitors to Quarantine Themselves

BY BOB ADELMANN
republished below in full unedited for informational, educational and research
purposes:
Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo replaced her edict demanding that New Yorkers coming to her state to escape the virus pandemic quarantine themselves for 14 days or else face fines and imprisonment and replaced it with one that includes anyone from out of state. She defended her initial edict by stating, โ€œThe reason is because more than half of the cases of coronavirus in America are in New York.โ€ฆ I know itโ€™s unusual. I know itโ€™s extreme, and I know some people disagree with it. [But] if you want to seek refuge in Rhode Island, you must be quarantined.โ€
The governor isnโ€™t quite right about the numbers, but her threat is real. According to Worldometers, as this is being written on Monday morning, there are 142,793 known cases of the virus in the United States, with 59,648 (41 percent) of them in New York State. There are 294 known cases of the virus in Rhode Island, which have resulted in three deaths so far.
The governor is determined to keep her stateโ€™s numbers as low as possible, no matter what it takes. She has ordered the state police to set up checkpoints on I-95 and other main highways leading into her state from the west where drivers from out of state are being directed to checkpoints. If they ignore the signs, they will be pulled over. They will be quizzed about their plans, forced to give their personal contact information, and given a copy of the governorโ€™s edict. It includes the penalties for noncompliance with the stateโ€™s quarantine: a $500 fine and possible jail time for up to 90 days.
National Guardsmen were also posted at train stations and bus depots to seek out and warn incoming New Yorkers seeking refuge in the state.
Even more egregious is her ordering National Guardsmen to start knocking on doors, primarily in small coastal towns where many out-of-staters have summer homes. Without search warrants, they have already knocked on more than 1,000 doors, demanding contact information from any persons from out of state living there and giving them copies of the governorโ€™s edict.
Among the first to protest Governor Raimondoโ€™s actions was New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who called her initial edict โ€œclearly unconstitutional,โ€ adding, โ€œI understand the goal โ€ฆ [but] we have to keep the ideas and the policies we implement positive rather than reactionary and emotional. There [are] potential points of absurdity that people [like Raimondo] reach when it comes to trying to deal with the pandemic [and] I think Rhode Island is at that point of absurdity.โ€
Governor Raimondo was miffed at Cuomoโ€™s criticism of her initial order that was directed just at New Yorkers: โ€œI did talk to the governor of New York yesterday [Saturday] after I had already taken my action. We chatted about it. If he feels itโ€™s important for him to take credit [for my new edict to include all out-of-staters] go ahead. Iโ€™m going to keep working here to keep Rhode Islanders safe. I will say I think itโ€™s odd that Gov. Cuomo is focused on this sort of politics at a time that weโ€™re fighting disasters.โ€
What Steven Brown, the stateโ€™s executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union, considered odd was the vast overreach of Governor Raimondoโ€™s executive decree:
While the Governor may have the power to suspend some state laws and regulations to address this medical emergency, she cannot suspend the Constitution.
Under the Fourth Amendment, having [an out-of-state] license plate simply does not, and cannot, constitute โ€œprobable causeโ€ to allow police to stop a car and interrogate the driver, no matter how laudable the goal of the stop may be.
Brown is referring to the limitations the founders built into the Constitution precisely to keep police from doing that. The Fourth Amendment to the Constitution reads, โ€œThe right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.โ€
Her edict also violates the Comity Clause, otherwise known as the Privileges and Immunities Clause (Article IV, Section 2, Clause 1): โ€œThe Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States.โ€ This limitation was deliberately added by the founders to prevent a governor of one state from treating citizens of another state in a discriminatory manner.
One of those citizens whose rights were violated by Rhode Islandโ€™s National Guardsmen who came to his home without a warrant was a New Yorker who had just returned from a trip to the Bahamas with his family to his summer home in Rhode Island. Reha Kocatas told TV station WCVB that he questioned Raimondoโ€™s overreach: โ€œIf New Yorkers are such high risk individuals, why are [they] putting first responders in front of these individuals?โ€ฆ It seem[s] like a pretty large waste of resources for something that could have been volunteered through an online form pretty quickly โ€ฆ it seemed like bureaucratic grandstanding.โ€
If allowed to stand, the governorโ€™s edict could be replicated in other states where similar warnings have been issued but without the threats and constitutional violations posed by calling up the National Guard.

AMISH CHILDREN TO BE DENIED AN EDUCATION IN NEW YORK

Amish Children to Be Denied an Education in New York
AMISH CHILDREN TO BE DENIED
AN EDUCATION IN NEW YORK

An Amish family filed a lawsuit in October 2019 arguing that the removal of the religious exemption to vaccination mandated for school attendance violated their rights under the New York Constitution. The family had three unvaccinated children, who were shut out of a private school that enrolled only 24 students, all of whom were Amish and unvaccinated.1 2 Seeking a preliminary injunction to halt the repeal of the religious exemption so that their children could stay in school pending the outcome of the case, it was the third legal case requesting a preliminary injunction to halt the implementation of Public Health Law 2164 (โ€œthe Lawโ€) after the New York legislature took the unprecedented action of passing A2371 that removed the religious exemption for school attendance on June 13, 2019 in one day without a public hearing. The bill was immediately signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo the same day.3

History of the Amish in the U.S

There are more than 150,000 Amish people living in the United States, most of them are descended from families who, 400 years ago, came to America from Europe trying to escape religious persecution and seeking religious freedom. Some Amish and Mennonite groups emigrated to Lancaster, Pennsylvania in response to William Pennโ€™s experiment with establishing a state of religious tolerance.4 5 6
The first Amish settlers arrived in New York in 1831. They were attracted to the area in part because of the protection of free exercise of religion in New Yorkโ€™s Constitution. Currently, about 20,000 members of the Amish religion live a secluded life in farming communities in New York, which is thought to have the fastest growing Amish population in the US. 7 8
Many Amish families hold strong religious beliefs, live in close-knit, self-reliant communities and send their children to Amish-only schools until the 89 The U.S. Supreme Court recognized the deeply held religious beliefs of the Amish community when ruled in 1972 that Wisconsinโ€™s compulsory attendance law was unconstitutional under the First Amendment when applied to Amish children past the 8th grade. The Supreme Court held that the Stateโ€™s interest in compulsory education must yield to the fundamental rights, โ€œprotected by the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment and the traditional interest of parents with respect to the religious upbringing of their childrenโ€10

The Court Ignored Plaintiffโ€™s Religion

In stark contrast to the opinion of the highest U.S. court, which recognized the religious rights of the Amish community, Judge Doyleโ€™s opinion made no mention of the familyโ€™s deeply held religious beliefs or their unique lifestyle at an Amish only school in a secluded community, despite the Plaintiffโ€™s Complaint and supporting 47-page Memorandum of Law focusing on their deeply held religious beliefs.11
The Amish put God and community ahead of the individual. The Amish value life as a spiritual activity and believe in separation from, rather than integration with, modern worldly society. The Amish base their daily life and religious practice on a literal interpretation of the Biblical instruction โ€œbe not conformed to this world.โ€ (Romans 12:2)โ€ฆ.Plaintiff sincerely believes to rely on a man-made vaccination would be an act of unbelief in the power of God to heal and protect. (emphasis added.)12

Recent New York Court Decisions on Public Health Law 2164

In New York, a party seeking a preliminary injunction must show three things by clear and convincing evidence: (1) that they are likely to succeed on the merits or, in other words, win in the end; (2) that they will suffer irreparable harm if the preliminary relief is not granted while waiting for the final judgment; and (3) that the balance of the equities favors their position. In making a determination, the court is required to look at factors such as public policy and hardship to the parties when determining whether granting relief is fair.13
The Plaintiffs contend that the Law, as amended, violates the free exercise clause of the New York State Constitution. This is the second time that plaintiffs have relied exclusively on the New York Constitution rather than the Federal Constitution when challenging the recent changes to this law. In Sullivan-Knapp v. Cuomo, the New York Supreme Court denied a preliminary injunction finding that the Law did not violate the New York Constitution, although it criticized the Legislature for denying children with a religious exemption an education.14 15
In both cases, the plaintiffs assert that New Yorkโ€™s long history supporting religious tolerance and religious liberty is supported by the State Constitution which grants broader rights than the Federal Constitution as evidenced by the inclusion of the words, โ€œforeverโ€ and โ€œall humankindโ€. The New York Constitution Article 1, Section III sets forth,โ€œThe free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, without discrimination or preference, shall forever be allowed in this state to all humankind โ€ (emphasis added)16
These cases are distinguished from F.F. on behalf of Y.F. v. State, the other lawsuit filed in the 3rd circuit Appellate Court in which plaintiffs were seeking a preliminary injunction asserting the removal of the religious exemption violated the free exercise of religion clause in the United States Constitution and the New York Constitution. In that case, the Appellate Court denied a preliminary injunction and found that, while the plaintiffs would suffer irreparable harm if the preliminary injunction was not granted, they did not establish that they had a likelihood of success on the merits.17

The Court Failed to Balance the Equities

Relying on a 2006 Appellate Court decision, Catholic Charities, the court stated that it would apply a test that balances the interest advanced by the legislation with the individual right to free exercise of religion.18 However, the Court did not appear to apply any balancing test when it determined that Plaintiffs failed to demonstrate a likelihood of success on the merits because they failed to establish that the removal of the religious exemption created an โ€œunreasonable interference to their right to exercise religious freedomโ€.19
Citing, Mcartney v. Austin, a 1969 Appellate Division case, the Court assumed that there was no need for any discussion at all because Public Health Law 2164, was a valid exercise of state police powers that supercedes the free exercise clause. โ€œ..statutes of this nature, and section 2164 in particular, are within the police power and thus constitutional generally is too well established to require discussion.โ€20
However, the Court failed to consider that when Mcartney was decided, Public Health Law 2164 did include a religious exemption.
The Court also conducted no fact finding, stating;
nothing but a clear violation of the Constitution will justify a court in overruling the legislative willโ€ฆ. Further, the Court is required to apply the โ€œpresumption that the Legislature has investigated and found the facts necessary to support the legislation.โ€(I.L.F.Y Co. v. Temporary State Housing Rent Comm., 10 NY2d 263, 269 [1961] (emphasis added)21
For the Court to assume that the current version of the Law is constitutional simply because it passed the Legislature is a giant leap of faith unsupported by actual facts.22 The Complaint clearly states that no investigation was conducted and included quotes from outraged members of the Legislature including Senator Lanza;
This bill says we donโ€™t even want to hear you. Your beliefs are so foreign to me that I reject them out of hand. You donโ€™t get a hearing, you donโ€™t get a conversation, you get nothing. I believe what I believe, you believe what you believe, and thatโ€™s your problem. I think thatโ€™s wrong. And itโ€™s a terrible precedent.23

The Courtโ€™s Analysis Missed the Mark

The Courtโ€™s decision misses the mark as it analyzes whether the Law is constitutional, rather than addressing Plaintiffโ€™s claim that the removal of the religious exemption violates the New York Constitution. This is a distinction of merit. The Plaintiffs do not argue that the Legislature does not have the right to enact laws to protect the health of New Yorkers, rather, they assert that the New York Constitution requires an exemption to be carved out for those whose deeply held religious beliefs conflict with public health law, which is the reason the religious exemption was incorporated into the Law when it was passed in 1963.
This decision contradicts Williams v. Orchard Park Sch. Dist, a New York Supreme Court decided in 2019 that found โ€œNew York has long recognized the need to balance the protection of the public health against the constitutional rights of parents to raise their children in accordance to their own religious beliefsโ€ and that Public Health Law 2164 with the religious exemption in tact maintained that balance.24

The Court Ignored the Plaintiffโ€™s Other Arguments

The Court made no mention of the Plaintiffโ€™s claim that denying an education violates the New York Constitution Article XI, Section 1, which established that the Legislature will:
provide for the maintenance and support of a system of free common school, wherein all of the children of this state may be educated.25
The Court also ignored Plaintiffโ€™s assertion that removing the religious exemption, which would result in denying certain children access to an education, effectively amended the New York Constitution without following the Constitutional amendment process as set forth in Article XIX of the New York Constitution. Instead the bill was passed with no debate in the House health committee, no testimony received from health professionals, no input from the public and no fact finding.26

Lessons Learned from New York

The court decisions in New York make it clear that the assault on our constitutional rights and civil liberties will not be remedied in a courtroom.
The sheer number of lawsuits filed by families of children denied an education and the financial toll taken by New York as it repeatedly defends a law that unjustly targets and penalizes a small segment of the population should caution other states considering similar legislation.
